2B Bolder Podcast : Career Insights for the Next Generation of Women in Business & Tech
What if your business could actually work for your life instead of consuming it? This question lies at the heart of Tana Kramer's approach to financial strategy for women entrepreneurs.Tana, founder of TK Solutions and a self-described "profitable strategist," joins the To Be Bolder podcast to share her journey from answering phones at her father's glass shop at age eight to becoming a fractional CFO for women-led businesses generating $1-5 million in revenue. Her path wasn't linear – after graduating with a management degree, she quickly realized corporate life wasn't for her and found her calling supporting entrepreneurs through various ventures before launching her own business. The conversation reveals profound insights about the relationship between profitability and lifestyle design. Tana emphasizes that most entrepreneurs fail to regularly examine their financial statements, often relying on flawed memory rather than actual data. "Looking at your numbers is definitely going to be the biggest thing," she explains, noting how entrepreneurs sometimes mentally spend the same dollar multiple times. This disconnect between perception and reality leads to misalignment that manifests physically – grinding teeth, tension in the shoulders, persistent irritability – signaling something in your business model isn't working for you.Perhaps most valuably, Tana addresses the emotional and psychological dimensions of entrepreneurship. She shares how she discovered her own inherited scarcity mindset through conversations with her mother, and offers a powerful strategy for those struggling with similar limitations: "Get yourself into rooms where people are sure it's possible and you can borrow some of their confidence while you prove it to yourself." This environment shift gradually transforms your relationship with money and profitability.Whether you're just starting your entrepreneurial journey or looking to scale your existing business more intentionally, Tana's guidance offers a refreshing perspective on creating financial systems that support your vision rather than dictate it. Jennifer Anderson is the founder of Kids Eat in Color, a platform dedicated to providing families with the resources they need to feed their children nutritious foods and build healthy eating habits. Anderson's passion for nutrition started during her time working in the nonprofit space, leading after-school snack programs. Her experience inspired her to go back to school and study the science of nutrition. After earning her master's degree in public health and becoming a registered dietician, she went on to lend her expertise to various nutritional education programs, including the USDA's SNAP-Ed program, an initiative aimed at providing nutritional resources to low-income families nationwide. But even with all of her experience working as an expert in the field, Anderson struggled to feed her children. She started documenting the meals she'd make for her kids on Instagram, sharing her strategies for how to get them to eat different food groups with other parents who might be struggling to feed their picky eaters. Today, Kids Eat in Color has grown from a small Instagram page to a platform with 2 million followers, has expanded offerings to include recipes, educational courses for parents, and meal plans, and works to support food justice initiatives offline. Sarah O'Leary is the CEO of Willow Innovations, the inventors of the first wearable breast pump. She began her career as a consultant for private equity clients, learning firsthand how businesses make big decisions and developing her problem-solving skills. She then made the switch from advising companies to helping run them when she went to work for a client. O'Leary transitioned into brand development and growth in the e-commerce and retail space at companies of all sizes, refining her skills. Willow Innovations reached out to her to recruit her shortly after she became a mom. The offer came while she was navigating postpartum life and reconsidering how she wanted to invest her time. She accepted Willow's offer because she believed in the company's commitment to showing up for moms like her. O'Leary joined as the company's vice president of growth, helping expand Willow's product offerings and its identity as a brand that supports moms beyond breast pumps. “The theme of the expo is ‘designing society for future lives.' And it is just that from the foundations, from the buildings to the exhibits, each country showcasing what they're doing for our future, in technology, healthcare, sustainable, living energy…The Japan pavilion's exhibit…is about the circular economy and…the theme is between life and life. So the pavilion, and its circular structure, is about life and how everything is connected and flows, again, the circular economy.” Yvonne Burton on Electric Ladies Podcast Japan is one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and is also a nexus of coordination between Asia and the West, economically and politically. So today our guest is taking us on a tour of the sustainability and climate-related exhibits at the massive Osaka Expo. Listen to Yvonne Burton, who is an expert on doing business in and with Japan, tell us about the fascinating new technologies and materials that Japan and other countries, including China, are displaying and demonstrating at the Osaka Expo. It continues through October so you can plan your trip today! You'll hear about: ● The overall theme of the Expo and how it's integrated into each country's pavilions and exhibits. ● Why different materials and technologies are being developed and how they are being used to replace common carbon-intensive or waste-intensive ones. ● Which issues related to climate change the countries choose to focus on tells us a lot about what they are facing, what concerns their citizens and where the country or company is investing ● Plus, career advice, such as: “It's about how you think about who you are. You can follow the script of what society says you should be thinking, feeling, or doing at this point. Or you can say, ‘I have this certain experience, these skills, and I want to fully utilize myself.' And that often entails going out on your own and creating something that of course doesn't exist. And it's a risk. …You have to really take a look at yourself and say, ‘I believe in me and I don't want to be limited. I want to use all parts of myself'.” Yvonne Burton on Electric Ladies Podcast Read Joan's Forbes articles here. Sarah Harrelson is the founder and editor in chief of Cultured Magazine. She initially thought about going into politics, but things changed when she discovered her love for publishing as an intern at Elle. She moved to Miami to work her way up the masthead at a smaller publication, climbing to the role of editor in chief in less than a year. She continued growing her skills as an editor at major magazines such as Women's Wear Daily, W Magazine, and Seventeen Magazine. Though she went on to lead publications in the years that followed, Harrelson wanted to create something of her own. She had a vision for an arts-and-culture magazine that looked beyond household names in its coverage and highlighted emerging artists. In 2012, she used her years of experience leading publications and starting them from scratch to bring her vision of Cultured to life. Today, the magazine is revered by its cult following for its unique coverage of undiscovered talent.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Check out my Free Brainstorming Workshop: https://mightyartisan.com/worldbuilding Learn to silence your inner critic. Ignite creative ideas. And watch a live demo of these techniques in action.Artists have this love-hate relationship with deadlines - they stress us out and make us compromise our work, but they also force us to finish things and can actually unlock creative flow.Professional artist deadline anxiety emerges from job descriptions mentioning tight deadlines and high-pressure environments. Most artists worry whether they need to compete purely on speed, creating fear that everyone expects perfection immediately or they won't get employed. This relationship with deadlines becomes particularly challenging in concept art and commercial illustration where strict deadlines are common. This episode explores three key aspects of professional deadlines: why reliability and speed matter as much as quality in professional art careers, the reality of professional environments including crunch culture context and what employers actually expect from new artists, and practical strategies for building speed and meeting industry-specific deadline requirements systematically. The discussion covers how speed functions as a learnable skill rather than inherent talent, why the intersection of quality and speed creates competitive advantages, and frameworks for researching and practicing industry-specific time expectations. Key elements include understanding the speed-quality-cost relationship, building deadline confidence through systematic practice, and recognizing deadlines as completion enablers rather than creativity destroyers.CHAPTERS:00:00 Intro01:44 Welcome03:00 The Professional Artist Anxiety08:38 Why Deadlines Matter in Professional Art23:02 The Reality of Professional Environments 44:28 How to Build Speed and Meet Professional Deadlines01:03:24 The Analytical Takeaway01:07:16 The Simple Takeaway01:07:44 The Practical Takeaway01:15:11 The Philosophical Takeaway01:20:31 OutroThe Visual Scholar Podcast is designed to help you demystify the world of Art, Productivity, and Creativity. Katlin Smith is the founder and CEO of Simple Mills, a food company that makes a wide array of delicious gluten-free, grain-free, paleo-friendly, and non-GMO foods. Before starting her own company from scratch, Smith was a strategy and operations consultant. After years of relying on processed foods because of her demanding job, she switched to a Paleo diet in hopes of reaping the health benefits. Disappointed with the lack of store-bought options for her new lifestyle, Smith started making recipes of her own using healthier ingredients like almond flour and coconut sugar. With no background in food production or distribution, Smith reached out to her local Whole Foods when she was ready to sell her now-famous Almond Flour Muffin Mix. When the chain agreed to sell it on its shelves, Smith was eager to grow her business. She went back to school to build on the skills she acquired as a consultant and develop new ones so she could expand her line of products and distribute them widely. Today, Simple Mills is sold in over 30,000 stores nationwide, and Flowers Foods recently acquired the business for $795 million, marking one of the biggest female-founder exits in recent CPG history.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What does it take to succeed in male-dominated fields? Cherilynn Castleman knows firsthand, having navigated 30+ years in sales leadership at Fortune 500 companies as a woman of color. Her journey from selling Girl Scout cookies to coaching C-suite executives at Amazon and Walmart reveals powerful insights about career advancement, personal branding, and overcoming barriers.Cherilynn's revelation that "sales is a gateway skill" transforms how we think about this crucial capability. "Everybody sells," she explains. "If you're interviewing for a job, you're selling yourself. If you have an idea in marketing, you're selling your idea." This reframing makes sales accessible to everyone—especially women who might otherwise avoid this traditionally male-dominated field. The conversation takes a powerful turn when Cherilynn shares her framework for handling microaggressions—those painful "paper cut" moments that undermine confidence. She outlines three distinct types and exactly how to respond to each, providing practical tools for self-advocacy while maintaining dignity. Her three-part formula for career success is equally actionable: be competent ("too good to be ignored"), have confidence to share your point of view, and genuinely care about your work and clients.Perhaps most valuable is Cherilynn's strategic approach to mentorship and building a personal brand that attracts opportunities. She reveals that 100% of her business coaching Fortune 500 executives comes through LinkedIn, a platform she once feared, and shares exactly how she transformed her presence there. Her mission to empower one million women by 2030 demonstrates how an audacious goal can focus your efforts and open unexpected doors, from teaching at Harvard to developing global training programs.Connect with Cherilynn on LinkedIn and mention this podcast to receive her frameworks on any topic discussed. Alyson Stoner is the founder and CEO of Movement Genius, a mental health platform designed to support child performers. Stoner started their career as a child star, acting in hundreds of projects as an actor, singer, and dancer. They got their big break as a dancer in Missy Elliot's “Work It” music video and went on to star in Disney Channel's Camp Rock, Cheaper by the Dozen, the Step Up movies, and many others. At age 17, after a decade of nonstop work and growing up in the spotlight, Stoner stepped away from performing to take care of their mental health. In rehab, they questioned whether they would have chosen to be an actor after realizing how much it affected their well-being—and wondered what their life would have been like if they had felt more supported as a kid in the entertainment industry. After realizing that their true passion was psychology, Alyson left Hollywood behind to study it. After gaining multiple certifications in the field, they founded Movement Genius with the goal of making mental health support more accessible and affordable online. They also created the Artist Wellbeing Essentials—a digital tool kit designed to support children performers. Today, Stoner is a fearless advocate for mental health, whether it's on their podcast, Dear Hollywood, or in their new memoir, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything.Order the book here!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Jess Jacobs is the chief executive officer of Coterie—a premium, high-performing diaper essentials brand. Before Coterie, Jacobs spent years making a name for herself in creative advertising. She got her professional start as a copywriter for an ad agency, working on campaigns for noteworthy brands like Saks Fifth Avenue, LG, and Revlon. She continued her work at Kettle as a Creative Director, partnering with big names like Apple, Nike, and Glossier. Jacobs then transitioned into the personal care industry when she became vice president of creative at Lola, a women-owned feminine care brand that promotes transparency and clean ingredients. Jacobs appreciated Lola's mission, especially after becoming a mom. Having a baby made her more aware of the ingredients in and efficacy of the products she used in her everyday life, such as diapers. When she tried a diaper from Coterie, she fell in love with the product and the brand's mission to make parents' lives easier. She then joined Coterie as its senior vice president of brand, creative, and product management, using everything she'd learned over the years to build the brand into something worthy of its superior product.
