Have you ever thought about starting your own podcast? Having a successful podcast can be amazing for your business, but producing it means hundreds of hours of work, unyielding consistency, and having a loyal listenership. Trust me, I know.   Christine McAlister, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, has a different approach. She helps high-achieving coaches create more impact and income and attract their next clients — not by starting their own podcast, but by being amazing podcast guests.  She generated over 6 figures as a podcast guest, and has been recognized as the best in the world at podcast guesting by 7-figure founders like John Lee Dumas and Dana Wilde. She has been featured on over 100 podcasts, including twice on Entrepreneurs on Fire.  In this episode of The Sigrun Show, we talk about why you should NOT start your own podcast, and Christine shares her best tips on how you can be an unforgettable podcast guest.  In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: The tragedy that turned Christine's life upside down and how it affected her (3:37) How it really feels to step into your zone of genius and niche down (10:10)  Why you should NOT start your own podcast (12:20)  How to be an amazing, unforgettable podcast guest (20:40) How Christine set up her business and teaches her clients (32:12) Christine's free podcast guest check-list (34:27) How to Be an Amazing Podcast Guest Having your own podcast can be amazing for your business, but a lot of work and time goes into producing a successful show.  In my recent chat with Christine McAlister, she pointed out that when you focus on being a guest on someone else's podcast, you have the privilege of speaking to an existing, warm audience instead of having to create that audience first yourself. Christine has been featured on over 100 podcasts, and has been recognized as the best in the world at podcast guesting by 7-figure founders like John Lee Dumas and Dana Wildeand. She regards a podcast interview as creating a relationship rather than a transaction, and I couldn't agree more.  Christine ended up turning her passion for interviewing and being interviewed into a business, helping high-achieving coaches create more impact and income and attract their next clients by being amazing podcast guests. She shared her best tips with me, and here, I'm sharing them with you:  Don't choose a podcast just because you want to get in front of the host's audience. Choose it because you actually want to be friends with the host and get to know him or her. The host should ideally be someone you would want to spend time with, who talks to the kind of people you would like to hang out with, and who has a similar energy and approach. Make sure you like them as a person.  Check out the podcast and the host and do some research. Are they accepting guests? Are they still producing shows?  Listen to at least one episode and get a feel for the vibe of the podcast and the host. Find things that you have in common.  When you decide to pitch a show, don't just copy and paste your pitch, but personalise it. Be human and authentic, and most of all, let the host know how you can serve their audience.  If you really put an effort into your pitch, the host will feel it and will be excited to talk to you. You get to have a real, engaging conversation, which will draw in the audience and make you more attractive to them. Keep in mind that the relationship you're creating could also open doors in the future.  What is your experience as a podcast guest? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Today's episode covers the personal story of a mother who has been through postpartum anxiety, severe colic, and complicated family transitions. Through her difficulties, she has thrown herself into learning about perinatal mental health challenges, supporting herself, and helping other families. Christine Carrig is the director of Carrig Montessori School in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a master's degree in Early Childhood Education as well as a Montessori certification. Christine has trained as a postpartum doula through both DONA and Ayurvedic Mamas. Most recently, Christine founded The Family Flow, a community that offers online courses for parents of young children, with the aim of helping parents understand and support their children so they can guide them through the messy terrain of development. Christine lives in Queens with her husband and four young children. Show Highlights: In 2012, Christine's first daughter was born after a wonderful pregnancy As a new business owner of a Montessori school, Christine pushed herself too hard as a new mom and was shocked at her hypervigilance and how it depleted her energy How Christine noticed that her daughter was extremely sensitive and easily overwhelmed by her emotions and frequently overstimulated; she also had sleep issues In 2015, her son was born after a more challenging pregnancy for Christine, and she felt like there was a cloud over her all the time How her daughter started showing harmful aggressive behavior toward the baby and Christine to the point she feared being alone with the two children How Christine felt inadequate to walk through this terrain of transition with her daughter to the point that she felt like a failure as a mother How Christine's relationship with her own mother changed and left her feeling unsupported and isolated in an extended period of estrangement between them How her newborn son's fussiness and vomiting escalated into full-blown colic, and Christine drew strength from her husband's calm optimism How an interaction with her sister gave Christine a new perspective on her situation When her son's colic settled down around nine months, she sought help from acupuncture, therapy, and learning more about her daughter's unique needs When Christine became pregnant again, she feared a repeat of her postpartum experience, so she took maternal mental health training and listened to the Mom & Mind podcast, trying to make a different plan for herself and her older two children How Christine took physical and emotional space after the birth of her third child to authentically bounce back and learned to ask for help With her fourth baby, she hired a postpartum doula to help and learned how to ask friends and family for specific help How she made her basement her “recovery cave” and took some “sitting in” time, which left her recovered, steady, and calm as a new mother of four children How Christine helps other families through her Mindful Parenting program at her school and her online classes Resources: The Family Flow

She teaches us what it means to feel, heal, and deal with your emotions, how “expectation hangovers” are causing problems for you, and what it means to heal your inner child. If you have a passion for personal growth or wonder what the world of personal growth can hold for you, this episode is a must-listen.  Episode Highlights:  3:51 The winding path that led Christine to be a master life coach 7:29 Common patterns, setbacks, and beliefs that are holding you back 11:55 The feel, heal and deal approach 13:57 How Christine’s divorce became a catalyst for personal growth 17:21 What it means to deal with your emotions  20:42 Why most women are people pleasers 23:48 The expectation hangover and how it’s affecting your life 27:38 Turning painful breakups into personal growth and why most people are dating their parents 33:46 How parental issues are showing up in your relationships 36:56 The five different kinds of relationships  41:00 How Christine milked her divorce for all it was worth 44:20 The conflict resolution strategy Christine and her partner use to foster a healthy relationship 48:51 Why personal growth starts with your inner child 52:29 Rapid fire questions  56:36 How to get in touch with Christine Links and Resources:  Christine’s Website Over and On With It Podcast Christine on Instagram 20 Something, 20 Everything: A Quarter-life Woman’s Guide to Balance and Direction Expectation Hangover: Free Yourself From Your Past, Change your Present and Get What you Really Want  John Gottman Podcast 017: How to Turn Relationship Conflict Into Connection with Annie Lalla Guest Bio: Christine Hassler is a Master coach, facilitator and speaker with over 15 years of experience. Heroes are at the center of our stories… but what about antiheroes? Christine Cashen shares stories that don’t paint her in the finest of lights, all in the name of her mission to stop the world whining. Every speaker needs humility, but Christine takes it to a different level – not least in her signature story about a literal run in with a former President. You can’t get much more cringe-inducing than nearly knocking George W Bush off stage! So how does fighting the fear of poking fun at yourself work to the audience’s benefit? And what can we, as speakers, learn from Christine’s novel approach to heroes and antiheroes? In this episode, find out about: How Christine adapts stories to fit a conversational style vs a scripted style Why observational humor increases empathy and how to add humor to your presentations and stories How Christine walks the dangerous road of bringing politics into speaking Christine’s method for keeping track of her stories and selecting the right one What Christine believes is the best and worst amount of time to deliver a speech in Connect with Christine Cashen: Website (https://christinecashen.com/) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/adynamicspeaker/) Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/christinecashenspeaking) Twitter (https://twitter.com/christinecashen) LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/adynamicspeaker) Please Support Our Show Sponsors: Standing Ovation is sponsored by Content 10x (http://content10x.com/standingovation) . Christine Wells' World War II historical fiction celebrates strong, courageous women with story lines that faithfully reflect the true lives of real spies and resistance workers. Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler, and in today's binge reading episode Christine talks about the remarkable boom happening at the moment in wartime fiction and her fascination with the heroic women who were sent behind enemy lines.  And we've got three E-book copies of Christine's latest spy thriller The Juliet Code to give away to three lucky readers. A woman spy dropped behind enemy lines. A mission that went critically wrong. Now the war is over but Juliet can't forget the people she left behind . . . ENTER DRAW now. Offer closes May 23. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: How Christine got her start in romanceHer 'behind enemy lines' fascinationWhy women readers love WWII fictionPopularising buried true life historyThe woman who inspired Bond's MoneypennyChristine's favourite spy series- soon to be on TV Where to find Christine Wells:  Website:  https://christine-wells.com/ Facebook: @ChristineWellsAuthor  Twitter:  @ChristineWells0 What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. Jenny Wheeler: But now, here's Christine. Hello there Christine and welcome to the show.  It's great to have you with us. Christine Wells: Hi Jenny. Thanks so much for having me. Jenny Wheeler:  We're living in extraordinary times of pandemic. You're in Australia and I'm in New Zealand and we're both in some degree of social isolation, so give listeners a picture of where you are and how social distancing is affecting you. Christine Wells - popular World War II historic fiction Christine Wells: I'm in Brisbane and as a writer who is a bit of an introvert, I have to say that I probably am coping with social distancing a lot better than most people.  Not a lot has changed from the perspective of work.  I do have two children and they're both at home doing their schoolwork via the internet, but I don't call it homeschooling because they're both in high school and very capable of organizing themselves.  Dealing with 'social isolation' I'd say that I am missing my friends. I think everybody's going to have a big party when all of this is over, but it's something we all have to do and I'm happy to abide by the rules.  I don't think that they're as strict as they are in some other places.  We can still go out and get coffee as long as it's takeaway and we keep social distancing and so forth.  I'm just looking forward to seeing my family again and my friends. Jenny Wheeler: Australia is doing pretty well with their bubble and I've heard somebody suggesting – actually today is ANZAC Day, the day that our two countries celebrate, or honor should be the better word, war heroes – and I've heard somebody suggest that we should start an ANZAC bubble, that the first thing we should do is try and get the borders between Australia and New Zealand open again so that we could each visit each other.  I thought that sounded like a great idea, to create an ANZAC bubble. Creating an Anzac Bubble? Christine Wells: I think that's an amazing idea because I can see that foreign travel is not going to occur for us for quite some time. New Zealand has been quite successful with their isolation as well, so wouldn't that be wonderful and it would stimulate the economy as well. Jenny Wheeler: That's exactly it because we're also concerned about letting our tourist industry flourish again. I'd certainly be very happy to come to Australia and I think Australians would be happy to come here. So maybe that is something for the future. Christine Wells:  Yes.  What a happy thought. Jenny Wheeler: You are a trained lawyer and you were working as a lawyer before you turned to your fiction career. I

From childhood through university and into adulthood, Christine has always been a dancer. Although she's a self-professed introvert, she loves the stage and performing. Needless to say, the traditional 9-to-5 job was never for Christine. Life as a performer often required a lot of side gigs, but she loved the flexibility.  After getting married and having kids, Christine thought she'd be a stay-at-home mom, but life did not turn out the way she thought it would. A painful divorce taught Christine just how strong she really was, and how much change she was capable of withstanding. It was this event that was the catalyst to changing her life, allowing her to pursue her dream of opening a barre studio. We are chatting about what it takes to open a fitness studio, how women-led businesses operate differently, and what you can do to find your own business passion.  TOPICS EXPLORED IN THIS EPISODE: What Christine's parents encouraged in her that many others don't [ 2:45 ] What travelling around the world imparted in Christine about happiness [ 6:14 ] What a “Joe job” taught Christine about female leadership [ 7:34 ] How Christine's divorce was the catalyst for changing her life [ 10:14 ] One of the most important life lessons to finding happiness at work [ 17:47 ] How Christine pivoted from employee to entrepreneur [ 19:39 ] How Christine consciously branded Cbarre from the beginning [ 23:07 ] How to start small as you build your business or fitness empire [ 29:58 ] Why transparency with your team gives them more personal ownership [ 33:54 ] How women-led businesses teach a different way of succeeding [ 38:49 ] Christine's biggest struggle in building a business [ 42:33 ]   Christine's Quotable: “You have got to expand and own your own worth.” I was an otherwise intelligent woman, except for the fact that I kept myself small. ========== Connect with Christine: Instagram: @cbarretoronto Online: www.cbarre.com ========== Connect with Kattie: Online: www.kattiethorndyke.com Instagram: @kattiethorndyke LinkedIn: @kattiethorndyke Facebook: @kattie.thorndyke

Christine is a firefighter and the single mother of a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old. In today’s interview, she shares about the difference between the way she pictured her adult life growing up and the way her adult life actually played out. She talks about moving from the Midwest to California, changing careers, delaying motherhood, and then finally deciding to become pregnant via IUI. Christine talks about her lightbulb moment – the moment she realized that she would be OK if she never found a partner and got married, but that she’d always regret it if she didn’t have children. Despite thinking that he was prepared to face the future without the love of his life, Clarry found himself in shock and despair. We’ve all heard various versions of the same story: Someone experiences a life-threatening illness or near-death experience which immediately puts into perspective what is actually important in life. That person shakes up their life and starts pursuing a more fulfilling path. But why is it that we have to experience horrible things before we can find such clarity? Or as Christine McAlister puts it “Who has to die for you to give yourself permission to live for yourself?”   Christine suffered her own tragedy when, at 9 months pregnant, her daughter Maeve passed away. Christine was forced to deliver her child and then plan a funeral, an unthinkable experience that many would not be able to overcome. But Christine used her grief and experience to stop playing small and figure out how to make the most out of life. That led her away from her successful online marketing business and into starting a business coaching program called Life with Passion. She helps high-achievers all over the world to replace their incomes (and then some!) and quit and stay out of their 9-5s, by building businesses out of their passions.   Christine also uses her own experience with tragedy to help her clients focus in on what is actually important. As if that wasn’t enough, she is the bestselling author of The Income Replacement Formula: Seven Simple Steps To Doing What You Love And Making Six Figures From Anywhere.   Here is what we chat about in this episode: How Christine got out of her 9-5 job with a side hustle (and how she even figured out how to start a side hustle) How her side hustle became her full-time business and how that led to even more businesses How the death of her baby when she was 9 months pregnant led her to quit her businesses and find her true calling by opening Life With Passion. How she managed to get out from under the grief and take action to create the life she wanted How she uses Life With Passion to help other women entrepreneurs find their passions and make a business out of it. How to find what your true passions are if you’re feeling stuck in your career. How the power of just making the decision to act is the very first step. 084: Yoga for Scoliosis with Christine Jaureguiberry   Christine Jaureguiberry has niched down over the years as a yoga teacher. She now works mostly with individuals who have scoliosis. This is fueled by her own love of yoga. At the age of five, Christine was diagnosed with structural scoliosis. Her parents first put her in ballet. As she grew, she stayed active, but in her teen years, her pain started to increase.   Christine spent a lot of time visiting physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. She wanted them to “fix” her, but instead found that the effects from the treatments wouldn't last long   After Christine's first yoga class (a Sivananda class in 2004), she noticed that she felt much better. Yoga made Christine feel better and she finally felt like she was in control of her own well-being.   It was after becoming a mother of two that Christine decided the timing was right to take her yoga teacher training.   Now Christine works mainly with individuals who are experiencing back pain, scoliosis or other back-related conditions. She loves to empower people so they can live pain-free. She teaches alignment and posture, bearing in mind the unique bodies and shapes. Christine makes yoga accessible to everyone.   5:34 - Meet Christine Jaureguiberry, who was diagnosed with structural scoliosis at the age of five. Christine shares her journey to yoga and how that motivated her to become a yoga teacher.   11:03 - What might a yoga student with scoliosis look like in a yoga class? Adam's Forward Bend: a technique to determine if someone has scoliosis   12:20 - Definition of scoliosis: Scoliosis is a lateral (side-to-side) curve in the spine, usually combined with a rotation of the vertebrae.   14:18 - Difference between structural scoliosis versus functional scoliosis   “80 - 90% of people have some sort of functional scoliosis” - Christine Jaureguiberry   16:08 - Christine shares how she is one of the 70% of individuals with an idiopathic cause (meaning the cause of her scoliosis is not known).   17:16 - Why it is important to diagnose scoliosis in children and teens. In most countries, it is rare to have scoliosis screening, but Christine was lucky to be living in Germany where screening was done.   18:48 - As yoga teachers, diagnosing scoliosis (or anything) is out of our scope of practice, but Christine shares how if we are teaching children's yoga - we can tell parents if we notice something that could be checked by their healthcare provider   20:09 - How diagnosis before puberty can actually correct scoliosis   21:15 - Yoga poses, considerations, and cues that Christine offers to students who are dealing with scoliosis. She talks about how she gradually works with a framework that offers poses involve:   Releasing Lengthening Derotation Strengthening   24:30 - Study by Dr. Loren Fishman on side plank for scoliosis and how you may get students in your classes referring to this study   25:44 - Christine shares how she feels about adjustments (hands-on assists) when working with students with scoliosis and how she sustained an injury from one in her yoga teacher training.   32:38 - How a yoga teacher can guide students with scoliosis, who may not know what is “straight”, “centre” or “balanced” in their body   33:10 - Poses that Christine has removed to her own yoga practice (shoulder stand)   34:50 - Things to consider when someone has spinal fusion or Herrington rods (*Herrington rods are not done now, but students over 35 years old may have them)   36:36 - Why lying on the back may not be comfortable for those who have scoliosis and how to modify for comfort   “Go with the sensations that your student is feeling, rather than what you think looks straight or even.” - Christine Jaureguiberry   38:45 - How Christine feels about 1:1 versus group classes and how she prefers to work with individuals with scoliosis   40:03 - What Christine wishes all yoga teachers knew when working with yoga students who have scoliosis   “It's not about the pose, it's about how you practice the pose.” - Christine Jaureguiberry   41:55 - How to work 1:1 with Christine (yoga students and teachers)   Christine's Facebook Group: Yoga for Scoliosis Community (for both students with scoliosis and yoga teachers working with students who have scoliosis)   Christine's website - Work 1:1 with Christine - online or in-person (yoga or mentorship)   If you would like to offer a birthday gift to Shannon:   Share a favourite podcast episode Leave a review on iTunes Leave a review on The Connected Yoga Teacher Facebook page   Christine's online course for yoga teachers -- Introduction to Teaching Yoga for Scoliosis: How to teach yoga safely for students with scoliosis   10% discount code for Christine's course (for our podcast listeners)   Episode 29: Creating Your About Me Page with Trevor Parks [Consultation Call]   The Connected Teacher Facebook Group   Apply for the Online Group Program for Yoga Teachers   Book a Consultation Call with Shannon   Gratitude to our Sponsor Schedulicity

Lightbulb Moment: Business Breakthroughs and Personal Discoveries with Becky Mollenkamp

How do you respond when “the worst thing” happens? You know what it is--that thing you’ve feared the most, but soon learned it was destined to be your “worst.” Today’s show is about making the choice to move forward with good and a flat-out refusal to let that worst moment define you, even though it forever changes you.  When Christine McAlister lost her first daughter, she realized she had a choice. She had the choice to hope to survive and keep doing what was comfortable and normal and what others expected of her, or to get over her fears and use the grief to create a legacy that mattered for her daughter and for herself. She chose the latter and her whole life changed for the better. She started a new, more aligned business, co-founded a non-profit with her husband, and rediscovered who she’d been as a child—her true self--someone who was ready to use her unique gifts to help others. This is a story of devastating loss and incredible triumph. Christine is a business and success coach and the author of The Income Replacement Formula: 7 Simple Steps To Doing What You Love & Making Six Figures From Anywhere. Her company, Life with Passion, helps high-achieving go-getters use their gifts to quit their 9-5’s by creating and growing online businesses from their passions. We talk about the difficult subject of losing a child and how that experience shaped Christine’s life. It’s a beautiful and moving story from which we can all learn to take our worst moments and turn them into something good.    More in this episode:   Christine’s lightbulb moment came at the full-term stillbirth of her first daughter, Maeve. The revelation was that she would figure out the next level in creating a legacy for her daughter After battling infertility and enduring three early miscarriages already, Christine was full of judgment and inner conflict about what motherhood would be like for her How she had difficulty getting pregnant and battled constant sickness and perinatal depression immediately Grief, guilt, and “degrees of loss” in this experience How Christine’s husband had to work through his personal grief and decide how to handle any feelings of blame he had toward his wife The best part of the loss was being surrounded by very supportive caregivers and getting connected to others who had gone through stillbirth 1 in 160 pregnancies ends in stillbirth, with very few of those even making it full-term The whirlwind of leaving the doctor’s office, going to the hospital, getting induced to give birth, and planning picture and funeral details--not at all what Christine planned for her birthing experience During the grief process, the idea for the non-profit The options that grief presents us with in moving forward, and what Christine chose Out of her loss grew a personality brand and a legacy to make sure Maeve would not be forgotten. “This is how I could parent her.” How Miles with Maeve provides coaching and support for athletes who want to reach an impossible goal Helping raise money for the four non-profits that were instrumental in helping them survive: Faith’s Lodge, Molly Bears, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, and Little Angel Gowns Christine’s rainbow baby, a second daughter, born 18 months after her first daugher (she is now 20 months old!) What Christine wants others to learn: “It all comes down to choice. Chuck Swindoll said, ‘I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react’. Christine Su is an entrepreneur and CEO of PastureMap, a Silicon Valley startup that creates cutting-edge ranch management software. PastureMap helps ranchers plan grazing, track forage, monitor herd performance, manage record keeping, and much more, all with the goal of saving ranchers time and making their operations more profitable. In the business of ranching—one that has not changed much in the past 100 years—PastureMap is a true breakthrough, and Christine’s innovative mindset and infectious enthusiasm are two of the root drivers of the company’s success. • Christine grew up in an entrepreneurial family, and she has had a lifelong curiosity about agriculture and the importance of food production. After building an impressive resume that includes undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford, a stint at McKinsey & Company, and experience in private equity, Christine combined her business expertise with her passion for agriculture to form PastureMap. PastureMap makes active or holistic management a more realistic option for ranchers, creating ripple effects far beyond the ranchers’ bottom lines—healthier grass, increased biodiversity, stronger communities, and continued viable domestic food production. • As you’ll hear in our conversation, Christine is a truly dynamic person whose passion for agriculture is matched by her intellect and entrepreneurial acumen. We cover all the details of PastureMap and how she built the business from a simple idea to a successful enterprise. We discuss her personal background and why she initially became so curious about agriculture around the world. We also chat about the ins and outs of active ranch management, and how a holistic approach to grazing can have far-reaching benefits beyond agriculture. As you’d expect, Christine also has plenty of excellent book recommendations related to agriculture, which I know you will enjoy. • For all of you ranchers out there, Christine is offering a 10% off coupon for a year’s subscription to PastureMap, and you can claim it by using the code “PRAIRIE” on the PastureMap website. Take a trip to Silicon Valley in the 70s and 80s, when going to space sounded like a good way to get around environmental limits, people started cryogenically freezing themselves, and nanotechnology looked like it might revolutionise industry – or turn us all into grey goo. Full transcript, coaching application form, overview of the conversation, and extra resources to learn more: In this episode of the 80,000 Hours Podcast Christine Peterson takes us back to her youth in the Bay Area, the ideas she encountered there, and what the dreamers she met did as they grew up. We also discuss how she came up with the term ‘open source software’ (and how she had to get someone else to propose it). Today Christine helps runs the Foresight Institute, which fills a gap left by for-profit technology companies – predicting how new revolutionary technologies could go wrong, and ensuring we steer clear of the downsides. We dive into: * Whether the poor security of computer systems poses a catastrophic risk for the world. Could all our essential services be taken down at once? And if so, what can be done about it? * Can technology ‘move fast and break things’ without eventually breaking the world? Would it be better for technology to advance more quickly, or more slowly? * How Christine came up with the term ‘open source software’ (and why someone else had to propose it). * Will AIs designed for wide-scale automated hacking make computers more or less secure? * Would it be good to radically extend human lifespan? Is it sensible to cryogenically freeze yourself in the hope of being resurrected in the future? * Could atomically precise manufacturing (nanotechnology) really work? Why was it initially so controversial and why did people stop worrying about it? * Should people who try to do good in their careers work long hours and take low salaries? Or should they take care of themselves first of all? * How she thinks the the effective altruism community resembles the scene she was involved with when she was wrong, and where it might be going wrong. Get free, one-on-one career advice We’ve helped dozens of people compare between their options, get introductions, and jobs important for the the long-run future.
