Considering practices of mass tourism and mega events as major drivers of spatial transformation, the episode critically explores their sustainability—not only environmentally, but also spatially, socially, and economically. Drawing insights from the work of Martin Müller and Sarah Gainsforth, the episode addresses the material and immaterial effects of such leisure practices in mountain territories through a threefold perspective: firstly, in spatial and tangible terms; secondly, in terms of governance; and thirdly, in terms of the intangible human experience. By reflecting on the above, the episode seeks to highlight the fact that mountains are increasingly undergoing processes of urbanisation, especially in the context of tourism and mega events. Ultimately, it constitutes a call for defending, protecting, and preserving our mountain landscapes.

Nathan Reed runs experiential events company MEGA, which he founded 15 years ago. Behind rolling successes like The Rock Orchestra, Illuminated Orchestra and Incredible Silent Discos, his story is equal parts passion, conviction, commitment and delivery.   Bitten by the events bug in his youth, Nathan switched away from drumming to found a small festival in his home town. From there, things went MEGA.   Nathan explains the journey from raves to his first touring brand, Big Freshers Icebeaker, and how MEGA moved onto food and drink shows, like the Great British Gin Festival and Rum & Reggae. Those, in turn, were stepping stones to bigger gigs across the country and internationally.   Nathan Reed highlights the strength in volume, the company went from 20 events a year to 200, and in managing as much as possible in-house, arrangements to production to marketing, and the value of a rigorous ‘testing phase'.   From the spoils of rolling tours to staying focused and staying on time, to shaping the Rock Orchestra, and success. Die 30. Olympischen Sommerspiele in Paris sind seit gestern Abend Geschichte. Aber die Strahlkraft des Mega-Events wirkt weit darüber hinaus - weil es gelungen ist, trotz aller Konkurrenz im Sport das Gefühl zu stärken, Teil eines großen Ganzen zu sein. Und das ist nicht zuletzt dem Austragungsort Paris zu verdanken. Die französische Hauptstadt hatte das gewisse Etwas, ein Flair, das auf die Athleten und Besucher überschwappte. Früher war für viele Menschen ein Auto unerschwinglich und das Fahrrad das günstigste und bevorzugte Fortbewegungsmittel. So auch für Ewald Strohmaier, der als begeisterter Radfahrer als Jugendlicher die „Tour de Rockelfing“ gewann und im Laufe der Jahre zum Funktionär und Organisator zahlreicher großer Rad-Events aufstieg. Bei den spektakulären 6-Tage-Rennen war er hautnah als Sprecher dabei. Sein Lebenswerk, die Bayern-Rundfahrt, wurde über die Jahre eines der wichtigsten Radrennen Deutschlands, an der auch zahlreiche Profis wie Jan Ullrich oder Erik Zabel teilnahmen. He is credited with reinstating “Mega-Events” to Central Park, where he oversaw the three largest public events in the park's history and masterminded numerous benchmark events for environmental, humanitarian, and social justice organizations worldwide.

Adnan is also the host of his podcast, The Majlis podcasts. In this episode, Adnan was kind enough to come on the podcast to report on his experience attending the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. For example, Miguel asked Adnan about Palestine's support at the World Cup and asked him what team/nation was the most well-represented while he was in Qatar. Additionally, Miguel asked Adnan about the historic run by Morocco and if France vs. Argentina was the most incredible World Cup Final of all time. Lastly, Miguel rooted for Argentina in the final because he could not root for France due to its history as an imperialist power and colonizer. However, some were rooting for France because their roster was full of African Diaspora players, and Argentina's roster was very white. Miguel and Adnan gave their thoughts on that and more. Spyros Capralos is the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the European Olympic Committees and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Mr Capralos was born 1955 in Athens, Greece where he studied economics at the University of Athens and later an MBA in France. He was a professional Water Polo player and competed in two Olympic Games - Moscow in 1980 and Los Angeles in 1984. In 1992, he became a member of the General Assembly of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and his sports management career took off. In 2004, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as General Secretary of State and City Manager of the Olympic Games Athens 2004. He is President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee since 2009, in 2019 member of the International Olympic Committee and in 2021 he was elected President of the European Olympic Committees. He is also working outside of sports, where he is acting as President of the Shipping Company Star Bulk Carriers. Moreover, he has been President of the Athens Stock Exchange and the Federation of European Stock Exchanges, CEO of OceanBulk Containers and the Bank of Athens. He has also founded one of Greece's most well-known brands for feta cheese.
