The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 5th study session on Char Adams' Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore. Published at the end of 2025, Adams' new book made a number of lists for top books of the year. Touted as an "award-winning journalist, editor, and storyteller for NBC News, known for her work on race, identity, and inequitable systems," Adams is a lovely black female, Victim of Racism. This may be the first to seriously investigate the history of bookstores operated by people classified as black in the area of the world known as the US. Specifically, Adams investigates how black people have responded to the System of White Supremacy through the lens of bookstores ownership. C.O.W.S. listeners should know that White Supremacists have invested immense time and energy to ensure that black people do not read or have access to books. Last week, we learned about Eso Won Books in Los Angeles and Karibu Books in Maryland. Adams explained the lull in black bookstores following the 1970's and the end of the so-called Civil Rights Era. Fictional romance novels, the Oprah Winfrey Book Club, and a new generation of mostly black female authors such as Terry McMillan, Sister Souljah, bell hooks, Iyanla Vanzant, Dr. Shahrazad Ali, and E. Lynn Harris (black dude), sparked a resurgence of black literature at the close of the 20th century. Most of these books minimized focus on the System of White Supremacy and instead centered on sexual activity and "gender wars." This transforms context from an ephemeral concept into a concrete, manageable asset.4. The dependency problem in modern development can be solved through pre-indexed knowledge graphs of popular packages. Rather than agents struggling with outdated API documentation, Youssef pre-indexes popular npm packages into knowledge graphs that automatically integrate with developers' projects. This federated approach ensures agents understand exact APIs and current versions, eliminating common frustrations with deprecated methods and unclear documentation.5. Rust provides superior feedback loops for AI-assisted programming due to its explicit compiler constraints. Youssef rebuilt his tool multiple times in different languages, ultimately settling on Rust because its picky compiler provides constant feedback to LLMs about subtle issues. This creates a natural quality control mechanism that helps AI generate more reliable code, making Rust an ideal candidate for AI-assisted development workflows.6. The current AI landscape faces a fundamental tension between expensive centralized models and the need for global accessibility. The conversation reveals growing frustration with rate limiting and subscription costs from major providers like Claude and Google. Youssef believes something must fundamentally change because $200-300 monthly plans only serve a fraction of the world's developers, creating pressure for more efficient architectures and open alternatives.7. Deterministic tooling built on semantic understanding may provide a competitive advantage against probabilistic AI monopolies. While big tech companies pursue brute force scaling with massive data centers, Youssef's approach suggests that clever architecture using existing semantic structures could level the playing field. This represents a broader philosophical divide between the "singularity" path of infinite compute and the "disagreeably autistic engineer" path of elegant solutions that work locally and affordably.

The group provides resources and support for missing black boys and youth. Ms. McCalla has been central for more than year in bringing attention to and working on behalf of numerous black families who have suffered through their black sons being lured far from their residence to sell drugs in rural areas of Canada. In March 1928, 9-year-old Walter Collins disappeared from Los Angeles after going to the movies. His single mother, Christine Collins, reported him missing, triggering a massive LAPD search amid the department's corruption scandal and recent criticism over the brutal Marion Parker murder.   Five months later, the LAPD reunited Christine with an impostor boy from Illinois claiming to be Walter to salvage their reputation. Despite obvious physical differences and confirmation from others that he wasn't her son, Captain J.J. Jones coerced her into taking him home and, when she persisted with evidence, had her involuntarily committed to a psychiatric ward for about a week under "Code 12" to silence her.   The boy soon confessed to being 12-year-old runaway Arthur Hutchins Jr., securing Christine's release and sparking public outrage. Meanwhile, the case linked to the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders: serial killer Gordon Stewart Northcott, aided by his mother and nephew Sanford Clark, abducted, abused, tortured, and murdered young boys on his farm. Evidence and confessions tied Walter to the victims—he was reportedly killed with an axe—though his body was never definitively found. Northcott was hanged in 1930; his mother received life.   Christine sued successfully for false imprisonment (though payment was evaded) and helped inspire a 1931 law requiring due process for psychiatric commitments. She never accepted Walter's death, searching until her own in 1964. Classified as a White Woman, Dr. Blaesing is “the Director of Community Well-Being” at San Francisco's The Hamlin School. “She is passionate about the inextricable link between holistic health and both anti-bias and anti-racism tenets and understandings,” and just finished “completing her Doctorate in Anti-Racist Policy and Leadership at American University.” Gus T. recently located her 2025 dissertation for said doctorate, No One Questions My Presence Here: White Women in Higher Education. The report cites a number of former C.O.W.S. guests - including Dr. Joe Feagin, Dr. Charles W. Mills, and Dr. Frank Wilderson to name a few. Ostensibly, Dr. Blaesing examines how she and other White Women maintain and refine the System of White Supremacy. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Kellen Hoxworth. Classified as a White Man, Dr. Hoxworth is an “Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of Buffalo, State University of New York. His academic interests focus on the intersections between performance, race, and coloniality, particularly in African and Black diasporic performance.” During our recent discussing with Dr. Chad Montrie, he told us that while researching Racially Restricted Regions of Minnesota he was inundated with blackface and minstrel show images. Dr. Montrie said, “They were everywhere.” At the schools, in the libraries, at the political meetings. All areas of people activity. The ubiquitous nature of these images motivated him to write a book on the subject and spurred Gus research other material on these racial performances. I soon located, Dr. Hoxworth's Transoceanic Blackface: Empire, Race, Performance. This 2024 publication asserts that minstrels shows are not a uniquely “american” form of entertainment. Rather, blackface and minstrel show performances where a crucial component of a global White Culture. People classified as White in every region of the globe partook in the humor and domination of the minstrel show. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 4th study session on Char Adams' Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore. Published at the end of 2025, Adams' new book made a number of lists for top books of the year. Touted as an "award-winning journalist, editor, and storyteller for NBC News, known for her work on race, identity, and inequitable systems," Adams is a lovely black female, Victim of Racism. This may be the first to seriously investigate the history of bookstores operated by people classified as black in the area of the world known as the US. Specifically, Adams investigates how black people have responded to the System of White Supremacy through the lens of bookstores ownership. C.O.W.S. listeners should know that White Supremacists have invested immense time and energy to ensure that black people do not read or have access to books. So, black bookstores must be heavily targeted places. Last week, we discussed the Tree of Life Bookstore in Harlem and the Hue-Man Experience Bookstore in Denver. A central theme of this text is that black bookstore operators were motivated to provide books for black children. Importantly, last week Adams told us that a significant pattern is that black females often read fictional romance novels - like Terry McMillan's Waiting To Exhale, while black males mostly read non-fiction works of history.
