In this week's episode of the @morethanyourweightpodcast, I'm joined by the amazing Cristina Curp of @thecastawaykitchen to talk all about understanding and healing your body with food! Cristina Curp is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and former restaurant chef with a BA in Anthropology. Her love of food, and particularly using real food to heal inspired her popular food blog and wellness site, TheCastawayKitchen.com. Author of Made Whole cookbook, co-host of Body Wise Podcast and food as medicine advocate. She is a Miami native with Cuban roots who is currently living in Virginia, or wherever her husband's Navy career takes them. At 29 years old and 2 years postpartum, Cristina hit rock bottom with her health. On top of an inflammatory skin condition she had lived with for years, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, she began to experience many mystery symptoms and inflammation, Cristina took to the kitchen to find wellness. Using her culinary prowess and love of research, she began to discover the connection between her symptoms and the food she ate. This ongoing experiment birthed her blog, which is a collection of inventive, allergen-friendly, low carb, whole-food recipes that have helped her reverse autoimmune disease, lose weight, and take control of her own health and well-being. Now she helps others do the same! In this episode, you will learn about: Cristina's story in struggling with an autoimmune condition and how she used food to heal her body What is an elimination diet or protocol and why do one How there is no manual for our bodies (especially when it comes to food) and how we have to be willing to experiment and learn what works for our UNIQUE body best The role hormones play in your body's immune system, digestion, inflammation, energy, vitality, weight and so much more How you can connect with Cristina on her blog, social and in her programs How to sign up for my FREE Conquer Your Cravings Challenge happening this week to support you in finding what foods work best for your body Resources Mentioned: Cristina's Blog, FB Page and Instagram Sign up for the Conquer Your Cravings Challenge - May 10th-14th Join me for the Essential Oils for Cravings Class TONIGHT at 8pm EST on Zoom here: https://zoom.us/j/93251633644 Sign up for my Podcast Newsletter + Library and never miss an episode! You can be following the healthiest diet out there, but did you know that it might not be the healthiest diet for YOU? I’m joined by Cristina Curp, creator of The Castaway Kitchen, to talk about how you can heal from autoimmune disease using food as medicine. About Christina Curp Cristina Curp is the creator of The Castaway Kitchen, a popular food blog and online community dedicated to delicious, healing recipes. Author of best-selling cookbook Made Whole and recently released Made Whole Made Simple. She holds a BA in Anthropology from Florida International University and is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Cristina in on a mission to educate people about the healing power of real food!  Cristina shares her story of growing up and living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa. This is an autoimmune disease that manifests in painful boils in sensitive parts of the body, such as the armpits and groin. Cristina explains how her doctor kept trying to get her on different types of medication and creams that just weren’t working. But after Cristina had her baby, the boils moved under her breasts which caused immense pain and more discomfort. She was researching the condition one day when she came across another woman who turned the autoimmune disease around by changing her diet. Because of Cristina’s background as a chef, she decided to try it herself. Food is the ultimate medicine and Cristina is living proof of that. She reversed her Hidradenitis Suppurative by changing what food she was eating and finding what worked for her. Cristina explains how following the autoimmune protocol worked, and didn’t work, for her and how she adapted it. Cristina eats a Keto-centric diet where her focus is on meats and vegetables. She doesn’t consume dairy as part of her nutrition as she knows it has a detrimental impact on her health. But Cristina isn’t totally against eating carbohydrates, in fact, she encourages eating carbs when it’s appropriate and to fuel your energy. The American diet, however, is bountiful with food that is not optimized for health. Foods high in saturated fat as well as seed-based oils can be lethal to you. But that doesn’t mean all oils are off the table, Cristina explains how you can include olive, coconut, and MCT oil in your regular diet. For many of us, food doesn’t show up in a sensitivity test. But consuming vast quantities of the same food is always going to be detrimental to our overall health and could cause a reaction. Cristina encourages you to eat a variety of food every day and to switch up what you’re eating to keep in your ultimate health. Do you find that you’re sensitive to a particular type of food? Have you tried removing it from your diet to see if it helps? I’d love to know your experiences trying to identify food sensitivities and what works for your health! Ditch the idea that you are either on track or you are off track - as my friend Cristina Curp says "Burn the wagon!" Ask yourself those important questions that help you have an awareness BEFORE you go in without a plan. Put foods on your plate that make you happy. Eat the foods on your plate that make you happy. DO IT! Avoid the foods that make you feel like garbage. Or don't and then be OK with maybe feeling like a hot dumpster fire. Give yourself grace – one day is a blip on the radar of your lifetime. Spoiler alert: you can't undo it all in one day Remember: it is not your responsibility to make anyone else comfortable with how you choose to eat. STOP GIVING THE FOOD SO MUCH POWER!!!!! How To Break Through Your Comfort Zone - Ep. 147

Please leave us a review at http://openskyfitness.com/review     Break Out of Your Comfort Zone   "Why is it so easy to do the same thing over and over again if you're not happy? Why stay in repeat mode if you're not getting no where near the result you want? If you're unhappy with your weight or your health, then there has to be a change." - Rob Dionne   On this week's episode of the Open Sky Fitness Podcast, Devon and I are sharing how you can break out of your comfort zone and begin to live a healthier life. When you're brand new at building a healthier lifestyle, going to the gym or learning how to cook healthy meals can be stressful and intimidating. However, leaving your comfort zone can easily be accomplished. We'll explain what is a comfort zone, how optimal anxiety can help you grow, and the benefits of breaking through your comfort zone.     What is a Comfort Zone?   "A comfort zone consists of a series of routines, behaviors and patterns that minimize the stress in your life and puts you into a state of mental security. There's no risk because you're basically on autopilot." - Rob and Devon Dionne   When we're in a comfort zone, everything is normal on a day-to-day basis. We're not challenging ourselves, but that's okay because what we do the same thing every day without any changes or obstacles. If we do try to leave the comfort zone to do a new workout, order a healthier meal, or even learn how to cook, it can feel really strange.    How Optimal Anxiety Can Help You Grow   "In order to actually maximize your performance, you have to be in a state of optimal anxiety." - Devon Dionne   When you begin to break outside of your comfort zone, you want to be fired up yet still be able to perform your best. If you feel anxious at the idea of learning how to cook or join a gym class, just remember that 'anxiety' is only a word that is used to describe a feeling. In fact, a slight amount of it as optimal anxiety can actually be a good thing. When you challenge yourself, you can build upon an enhanced amount of productivity that allows you to do more than you possibly ever thought you could.   Seek Assistance to Leave Your Comfort Zone If you are stuck or in need of some help, don't be afraid to ask or seek assistance with accomplishing your goal. There are people out there and different wellness communities that are eager and ready to you can help you break through your goal. One great example if you want to learn how to cook healthier meals at home is Blue Apron. They provide you with the ingredients and measurements that you need to prepare your meal so you don't have to wander around the grocery store trying to figure out what to buy. However, you'll still need to learn how to prep and create the meal yourself, but Blue Apron is a good stepping stone to help you learn how to cook.   The Benefits of Breaking Through Your Comfort Zone   "When you think of your health, fitness, and general lifestyle and if it seems overwhelming to you, it's because you're trying to think of it all at once. You're trying to think of how to fix everything at once when in reality all you have to do is be willing to step outside the comfort zone and take baby steps towards that first thing that's going to have the biggest impact in your life." - Rob Dionne   You don't have to try to leave several comfort zones at once because that can create the large amount of anxiety that we want to avoid. To reach optimal anxiety and challenge yourself to help improve your life, just pick one thing to do on a daily basis until you get comfortable with it. Expand your horizons by focusing on the biggest thing that will change your life and remember to start small. Read a fitness or nutrition book, try a new workout, or challenge yourself to do something new. There are so many benefits to getting outside your comfort zone: Discovering your 'Why?'
