Platonic Computation and the Dodleston Messages with Simon Duan Simon Duan came from China to the United Kingdom in the 1980s, where he earned a PhD in materials science from Cambridge University. He is a past Vice President of the Chinese Parapsychology Association and the founder and CEO of Metacomputics Labs, which researches a postmaterialist paradigm unifying consciousness, mind, and matter. Duan developed the hypothesis known as Platonic computation, argued to provide the strongest available explanation for the controversial Dodleston Messages case, if the case is genuine. Simon Duan discusses his hypothesis of Platonic computation, a postmaterialist model proposing that consciousness, mind, and matter emerge from a deeper non-physical realm of forms. He explains how this framework may illuminate the enigmatic Dodleston Messages, a decades-old case involving anomalous communications that appear to originate from both the past and the future. Duan explores how higher-level layers of reality, intelligence, and information processing could account for the extraordinary features of this controversial paranormal episode. New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He explains why transparency drives trust, how to build a path for growth at every level, and why the best managers help people pursue their long term North Star while still delivering for the business. This is a thoughtful and modern blueprint for tech leadership and team development.Key TakeawaysTeams move faster when the company goal is translated into a simple set of objectives that every level can understand and act on.Transparency is the anchor for healthy goal setting and creates the space for honest conversations about career direction.Managers should encourage long term North Star thinking since it keeps people growing even after short term milestones are reached.Succession planning should be an active part of how teams operate so progress never depends on a single person.People can stay committed to their work even if they have long term plans outside the company, and supporting those plans often improves retention.Timestamped Highlights02:19 How top level business goals get distilled into specific team and personal goals that engineers can act on.04:57 The role of transparency in helping teams understand the why behind each objective.07:34 Helping ICs tie personal development to broader company needs while still honoring their ambitions.09:28 Creating a safe environment for honest career conversations in a world of hybrid and remote work.15:14 Why knowing a person's long term plans makes succession planning easier for everyone.17:45 How Gregg works with his own manager on growth even when the title ladder narrows at the VP level.A standout idea from Gregg“As long as you have a North Star you will grow. Joining State of Tel Aviv and Beyond today is Professor Suzie Navot, one of Israel's foremost constitutional law experts currently serving as Vice President of the Israel Democracy Institute. For six years now Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been on trial for multiple corruption charges. He does not hide his contempt for the judicial system which he considers to be rotten to the core. A consistent theme of his leadership for the last decade has been to relentlessly attack the judiciary and law enforcement institutions for being an elitist, self-serving clique that is also left leaning and determined to sabotage the policies of his successive government coalitions. Most recently, Netanyahu has enlisted the support of U.S. President Trump to publicly pressure President Isaac Herzog to grant him a pardon; to make the charges and the trial just go away. Two months ago, in signature Trump larger-than-life theatrics, the American president implored his Israeli counterpart to just give Bibi a pardon already. Raucous applause filled the Knesset hall - where Trump was speaking - but the din has since died down. Pardoning Netanyahu is no simple matter - legally, politically or in terms of social mores. But Netanyahu is not relenting. In the last two weeks, Bibi and his lawyer sent written documents to President Herzog setting out what they state is the legal rationale for granting a pardon. Interestingly, they present Netanyahu as the man who is needed to heal the country and manage the security and diplomatic challenges free from distractions - like the trial. But, as Prof. Navot notes - Benjamin Netanyahu is charged personally with corruption-related offenses. He is not the state. And he is not above the law. With clarity and precision, Prof. Navot explains why the Netanyahu pardon request does not meet Israeli legal requirements and this request places President Herzog in a very difficult spot.Show your support for STLV at buymeacoffee.com/stateoftelavivPodcast NotesProfessor Suzie Navot is a Professor of Constitutional Law. In The CUInsight Network, we take a deeper dive with the thought leaders who support the credit union community. We discuss issues and challenges facing credit unions and identify best practices to learn and grow together. My guest on today's show is returning guest Deedee Myers, CEO of DDJ Myers, Ltd. She comes back to discuss leadership as we unpack what's forming the future of credit union leadership. From a huge wave of CEO retirements to board turnover to executive teams changing under new leadership, Deedee lays out what this really looks like in the concrete data that her team has been collecting for years. In our conversation, we talk about numbers and how many CEOs are expected to exit in the coming years. We talk about why so many delayed retirement after COVID and how that pent-up shift is finally arriving. Deedee also explains the generational turnover that is hitting boards and executive teams simultaneously, creating something close to a perfect storm. One of the biggest themes that we talk about, however, is responsibility. Who owns succession? Who's accountable for readiness? What should each party be doing to prepare for the leadership needs of the next decade? In addition, Deedee and I cover the programs, institutes, and coaching experiences that are truly accelerating leadership growth right now.As we wrap up the episode, we go through our traditional lightning round of questions as I ask her about the little things as well such as the purchases that she swears by, the rituals that keep her grounded during nonstop travel, and the guiding principle that she believes the industry desperately needs more of. On the All Things Sustainable podcast, we talk a lot about challenges like climate change, the energy transition and sustainable supply chain management.   In today's episode, we're focusing on solutions. We sit down with three guests to unpack how their companies use technology to address key sustainability challenges.  We talk to Rajiv Bazaj, Vice President of Energy & Sustainability Solutions at big US utility Constellation Energy Corporation. He explains how Constellation uses technology to address growing energy demand. This includes making better use of current generation and longer-term solutions like small modular nuclear reactors and fusion.   We talk with Christoph Gebald, Founder and CEO of carbon removal company Climeworks. He explains how technology advances are leading to breakthroughs in carbon removal — and why this is a critical solution to address climate change.   And we speak to Jonathan Horn, Founder and CEO of Treefera, a London-based startup that provides clients with insight into their supply chains. He points to the big developments in AI and satellite technology that are enabling more granular insight into supply chains.   "I think of it as monitoring everything, everywhere, all at once," Jonathan says. "Not just because it's a good thing to do from a nature point of view, but because it's an essential bottom line C-suite problem."  We sat down with today's guests on the sidelines of the Nest Climate Campus, where the All Things Sustainable podcast was an official media partner during Climate Week NYC.  Learn about energy transition data and services from S&P Global Energy here.  Copyright ©2025 by S&P Global         DISCLAIMER        By accessing this Podcast, I acknowledge that S&P GLOBAL makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation as to the accuracy or sufficiency of the information featured in this Podcast. You can see the project here as you listen along.California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo is confronting a challenge shared by many growing institutions in California: a rapidly rising student population paired with an increasingly constrained local housing market. Nestled in a highly desirable coastal town, the university has limited ability to expand enrollment without adding thousands of new beds on campus—an imperative driven not just by institutional goals, but by the simple fact that the surrounding city cannot absorb additional demand. In response, Cal Poly has launched one of the most ambitious student housing initiatives in the state, a program that will deliver 4,200 new beds through a landmark collaboration with FullStack Modular. The effort aims to redefine how campus housing is designed and built, relying on an industrialized construction strategy that promises speed, quality, and long-term affordability. If you enjoy this episode, visit arcat.com/podcast for more. If you were in your twenties and could choose to be born at any point in human history, would you be insane to choose any other time to be alive than right now? Our guest says yes, and the statistics back him up. Regardless of perception, shaped in part by politicians and populists, the average person today is richer than John D. Rockefeller simply by virtue of being alive in 2025. And yet, the “anxious generation” of Gen Z and Gen Alpha seem unaware of their own financial wellbeing and appear confused as to why they aren't instantly as well off as their parents in providing for themselves. Many believe homeownership is impossible, that they will never pay off their loans, and that the cost of living is unmanageable. Is this belief based in any reality? Was life truly better for their parents? Or is this a generational cycle of perception? And who benefits from peddling this fear?Norbert Michel is the Vice President and Director of the Cato Institute's Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives, where he specializes on issues pertaining to financial markets and monetary policy. Michel was most recently the Director for Data Analysis at the Heritage Foundation where he edited and contributed chapters to multiple books. Chris Fletcher is Vice President, Master Distiller and Director of Distillery Operations at the Jack Daniel Distillery. In this role, he uses an extensive knowledge of the whiskey-making process to supervise and ensure the world's top-selling whiskey is both in constant supply and true to Jack's guiding belief that “Every day we make it, we'll make it the best we can.” Chris is one of only a handful of individuals to have held the title of “Master Distiller” in the distillery's history, which began production in 1866. A native of Lynchburg, Tennessee, he is proud to accept the enormous responsibility that comes with having one of the most envied jobs in the world. Chris joined the Jack Daniel Distillery first as a tour guide, coming home to work summers during his college years. After earning a degree in chemistry, he gained a complete knowledge of production at Jack Daniel's including milling, mashing, fermenting, distillation, mellowing and maturation, all passed down first-hand by his grandfather, the late Master Distiller Frank “Frog” Bobo, and other Jack Daniel's employees with decades of experience. After his stint in Lynchburg, Chris worked for Brown-Forman Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky on Jack Daniel's quality control. Following two years of gaining valuable experience working for distilleries across North America, he returned to the Jack Daniel Distillery in 2014. This experience primed him to spearhead the quality operation at Jack Daniel's. Chris plays a key role in any potential new offerings and considerations from the distillery. As the grandson of Bobo, making Jack Daniel's TennesseeWhiskey comes naturally to Chris.  He recalls visiting his grandfather at the distillery, following closely at his heels and hearing stories about those who came before them. Chris's first memory of the distillery is watching his grandfather make sour mash and operate the stills. Fletcher not only has a foothold into the heritage and authenticity of Jack, but he also brings a fresh approach to product innovation. As his grandfather often reminded him, the incredible growth Jack Daniel's has experienced since his days at the distillery is a result of the process and quality controls established by its founder.

In this birthday episode of Lore Watch, Joe gave Matt a gift, and let Matt talk about whatever called to him -- and that was the lore of The Outer Worlds. They discussed everyone's favorite Gilded Age throwback with minimal spoilers, talking about how the world itself is setup and constructed in this alternate version of earth. In this version of history, the robber baron tycoons who brought you public works like Carnegie Hall and Rockefeller Center so they wouldn't be guillotined felt as though they wouldn't have to do such a thing -- McKinley wasn't shot by an anarchist, and thus his Vice President Teddy Roosevelt, who was known for rooting out corruption in the NYPD, just stayed Vice President. As such, inequality remained rampant and worsened, while that Gilded Age aesthetic continued to reign supreme.Led by Matt, they discuss how that has affected the world of The Outer Worlds, from the job market to the cuisine. They run down some of the more significant characters and their roles within that world. And of course, there are diversions galore, from Futurama to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Though, we're thinking the oompa loompas probably know a thing or two about working a crummy job at unfair wages. If you enjoy the show, please support us on Patreon, where you can get these episodes early and ad-free! "The idea of 'popcorn moments'—those sticky, rewatchable bits—that's what we aim for. It's not just cuts and beats, it's memory fuel." "I don't ever want to be the smartest guy in the room.
