In 2007, the affluent community of Boca Raton, Florida, was gripped by terror when a series of brutal attacks and kidnappings struck the Town Center Mall. Over the span of just nine months, three separate incidents targeted mothers shopping in the middle of the day. While some investigators have said that there is a hunter of women on the loose, a cold-blooded, calculating sociopath, nearly 20 years later, there's still debate about whether all the crimes are related.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 1-800-458-TIPS. You know that feeling when the holidays are coming… and instead of excitement, your brain jumps straight to, “Oh no. The food. The gatherings. The questions. The stress.” Everyone else seems to be dreaming about cookies and cozy dinners — meanwhile, you're mentally mapping out which dishes you'll have to avoid, who's going to forget your sensitivities again, and if you'll leave a meal yet AGAIN hungry, grumpy, and honestly? Feeling alone. Everyone else is piling their plates high with Grandma's stuffing and your brain is spinning: Is there anything here I can eat? Should I say something? Will I look rude? Am I overreacting? It's the comments about the food. And let's be real — half the stress isn't even the food. “What, you can't eat this either?”“Are you sure you're not being dramatic?”“I made it gluten free… except for the breadcrumbs.” You know the drill. So today I want to give you low-anxiety, high-clarity tips for navigating gluten free holidays (and grain free and dairy free) — even when absolutely no one else eats the way you do. We're going to talk about: ✨ How to get clear on what you need — before you ever talk to anyone else✨ Who is actually worth having a conversation with (and who… isn't)✨ Why your food choices trigger other people's insecurities — and how to not take that on✨ What to say when you need support✨ And how to walk into any gathering already fed, prepared, and confident so you're not relying on the buffet table to save you Because here's the truth: You're not asking for anything unreasonable. You're not being high-maintenance.And you deserve to enjoy the holidays, too, without the anxiety spiral.Let's get into my top Gluten Free Holiday Tips so you can actually make the season feel fun again. Choosing Yourself Isn't Selfish — It's Necessary In this episode of The One Day at a Time Recovery Podcast, I sit down with Hakeem to talk about what happens when performance, substances, and distractions can no longer protect us from unresolved pain. Hakeem shares how the death of his younger brother, years of buried grief, elite athletics, addiction, and eventually incarceration led him to a moment of total reckoning. Sitting alone in a jail cell — without substances, screens, or distractions — he was finally forced to face himself. What stood out to me most is Hakeem's belief that recovery isn't just about abstinence. It's about returning to our natural state — mentally, emotionally, and physically. Key Takeaways From Our Conversation 1. Addiction Is About Toxic Consumption Many people quit drinking but replace it with sugar, gambling, porn, caffeine, or overworking. The substance changes, but the avoidance doesn't. 2. The Work Has to Happen Before the Trigger If the inner work isn't done first, triggers become breaking points. When the work is done, triggers become opportunities for growth. 3. The TEFIC Framework Triggers – noticing what activates you Environment – what and who surrounds you Foundation – sleep, routines, structure Invest – time, energy, and money into growth Contribution – giving from overflow, not depletion 4. Community Is Where Healing Accelerates There's something powerful about being seen and understood by people who have lived it — not just professionals talking at you, but peers walking alongside you. Action Steps I Encourage You to Try Identify one "acceptable addiction" you might be using to avoid discomfort Build a minimum daily foundation you can keep even on hard days Journal on this question: What keeps showing up as a trigger in my life — and what might it be pointing to? Seek connection, not just more information

The fastest way to figure out what people want is by asking the right clients the right questions.Today, Mike Warkentin sits down with gym owner Toni Roy of Breathe CrossFit to break down how the Pumpkin Plan transformed her business.Following the steps, Toni created a list of clients who bring her the most joy and a second list with her highest-value clients. Typically, a gym owner circles the clients on both lists to ID the members they want to replicate. In Toni's case, the groups had zero overlap. This insight pushed her to rethink her offerings and create a hybrid membership built around CrossFit, personal training and nutrition—a combo that delivers better results for clients and boosts average revenue per member. Now, regular Goal Review Sessions allow her to continue the conversation: She can catch problems early, celebrate successes and upgrade prescriptions to serve clients better. SHOW NOTES: Welcome back to The Money Pit! In these final festive weeks of the year, Leslie Segrete and Jim Kenzie delve into essential winter home projects, share crucial safety tips, and continue to answer your calls. Join us for these home improvement topics and expert DIY answers! - Tips for Hanging Holiday Lights: We discuss the simplest and safest ways to hang holiday lights, both indoors and out, without damaging your home. You should use damage-free hardware like gutter clips for the exterior or removable adhesive hooks and suction cups indoors, specifically avoiding damaging staples, nails, or drilling. - Winter Safety Checks: We share important early winter safety checks to keep your home and family protected through the cold weather months. This includes testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, checking the charge and expiration dates on fire extinguishers, and cleaning lint buildup from dryer vents. - Décor Tricks to Warm Up Your Space: To instantly warm up your space for the holidays without a full redesign, we suggest simple décor tricks. Focus on adding texture through chunky throws and faux fur, switch out harsh overhead lighting, and create small, inviting winter vignettes. - Insulation in Older Homes: When improving efficiency in older homes, we recommend focusing on the attic insulation and floor insulation before focusing on the walls.   Q & A: - Pete in Arizona called about his 18-year-old tar patio roof, which was cracking and missing pieces, and asked if he should repair it using Flex Seal. We explain that patching would only postpone the inevitable, as the roof was likely past its expected lifespan, and recommend installing a new roof. - Diane in Minnesota asked for help with her apartment bathroom exhaust fan, which was failing to effectively remove steam. She should contact her building super to determine where the fan exhausts, as the vent may be obstructed or blocked, preventing it from functioning correctly. - Brad in Illinois was renovating his 1948 bungalow and wanted advice on whether to repair and restore his original single-pane, double-hung windows or replace them. We offer the choice of restoring them by adding weather stripping and installing storm windows or opting for replacement windows that fit inside the existing frame. - Kenny in Ohio asked for advice regarding the visible outlines of his ceiling joists on his downstairs ceiling. We confirm that it's “ghosting” and recommend sealing the area by priming and painting with a good-quality, washable ceiling paint.   ASK A QUESTION: Need help with your own home improvement or décor question? Our card this week is Paris Matthews, the 6 of Hearts from Florida. In the spring of 2013, Paris Matthews was enjoying an evening at home when he heard a knock at the door. Someone on the other side called out their name – but Paris knew that was impossible. Seconds later, before he could piece together why someone was lying … Paris was shot, and the years-long search for his killer began. Investigators have had to weed through rumors, finger-pointing, strange text messages, and a CODIS hit that wasn't what it seemed, but it might take someone out there to come forward for this mystery to finally be solved. If you have any information about the murder of Paris Matthew in April 2019 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, please contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 850-651-7400 or contact Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS. Because it's what she did differently that ultimately led her to a full-time copywriting job she loves. I am SO appreciative that Jade was willing to share her story. Because I think we've ALL been there. That moment when we're like “nope, no thanks!” But then, once we get honest with ourselves, we realize maybe we do want to chase our dreams—even if it's uncomfortable. Even if we feel like imposters. From compassion and accountability to purpose-driven business and heart-led influence, this episode explores what it really means to lead people in today's world.  Blending leadership wisdom, personal journey, and a touch of holiday fun, this episode will challenge how you think about empathy, motivation, and the lasting impact leaders can have - inside and outside the workplace. To leave lasting imprints on hearts when they're needed most, rising through the ranks to GS-14 without a college degree during her 38-year federal career, former HR Director of the U.S. Mint at Denver, Cindy Waddle turned her life's challenges into that purpose. After surviving near-death experiences and proving that grit and determination can outshine any credential, she followed her passion to uplift others by founding Dezire to Inspire (D2I). What began as a heartfelt act - writing 365 inspirational cards for a grieving family while volunteering in hospice - grew into a mission-driven company creating inspirational cards, flip books, and programs that promote healing, resilience, and connection. This show is made possible by you! Description: If you care about resisting autocracy and building democracy, the U.S. has much to learn from Hungary. While Donald Trump rails against Europe, he and Hungary's strongman leader, Viktor Orbán, have praised each other for years. Anti-democratic, anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-queer — Orbán and Trump came to power on parallel tracks with similar values. In their first interview together, Ezra Levin, the co-founder of Indivisible (the group behind No Kings!) and László Upor, a leader in one of Hungary's most creative and visible resistance efforts, share their experiences of resisting authoritarianism. Upor is former Vice Rector and Acting Rector of the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest — the one university that fought back when the Orbán administration began taking control of Hungary's universities. Levin is the co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, the grassroots movement behind such protests as the historic Hands Off and No Kings rallies. From the principles of their organizing to frog suits and caution tape, today's episode is a masterclass in creative resistance. Plus a commentary from Laura.“Our enemy in this isn't Trump, it's not the Republicans. It's not the broader regime. Our enemy is this sense of cynicism or fatalism or nihilism . . . I do think a core principle in our communication philosophy is convincing people, you have power, you just gotta use it. The best way to use it is in concert with a lot of other people in your community.” - Ezra Levin“You have to laugh at them, not be afraid of them . . . They don't understand mirth. They don't understand the derision. They think they are invincible. And when we don't give in, they don't understand what's going on.” - László UpperGuests:• Ezra Levin: Co-Founder & Co-Executive Director, Indivisible• László Upor: Former Vice Rector & Acting Rector, University of Theatre and Film Arts (SzFE), Budapest, HungaryListen to the full uncut conversation in this podcast feed.Watch the episode released on YouTube, PBS World Channel, and on over 300 public stations across the country (check your listings, or search here via zipcode). Many bright kids struggle daily in school, and it's not because of laziness or lack of effort. The real reason your child is struggling in school is often a dysregulated nervous system. I'll show you how Regulation First Parenting™ strategies help kids calm, focus, and thrive.Every parent knows the sinking feeling when homework, tests, or transitions turn your child's school day into a battle. It's tempting to think the problem is effort, attitude, or ability—but the truth is, learning, focus, and motivation depend on regulation. When a child's nervous system is overstimulated or under stimulated, even the brightest students can struggle academically. In this episode, I break down why kids across all ages—from preschoolers to college students—face learning challenges, and how parents can partner with schools and use evidence-based strategies to unlock their child's full potential. Why does my child melt down over schoolwork or transitions? Many children experience sensory or emotional overload, leading to meltdowns, avoidance, or shutdowns. Younger kids often face developmentally inappropriate expectations or tasks that feel too big, which triggers fight, flight, or freeze responses.Recognizing that every child has different learning styles is key, because what feels overwhelming to one child may feel manageable to another. Understanding your child's learning process helps you tailor support and maintain progress in their child's education, whether during the regular school year or even summer school.Tips for parents:Break tasks into manageable steps and offer sensory breaks.Validate your child's feelings: “I see this is overwhelming, let's take a minute.”Incorporate short nervous system resets, like deep breathing, gentle movement, or butterfly tapping.Real-Life ScenarioA preschooler refuses to start writing. Using a 3-minute reset and offering a small, achievable writing goal helps her calm and complete the activity. How can I help my middle or high schooler stay motivated?Middle and high school kids face growing demands on executive functioning—planning, organizing, and emotional regulation—all while managing increased homework, quizzes, and tests.Chronic stress can lead to procrastination, anxiety, or perfectionism, even in academically strong students.Tips for parents:Request a team meeting with teachers, guidance counselors, or case managers.Identify simple classroom supports, like sensory breaks or visual schedules.Encourage small, consistent self-regulation practices daily.

Aran Goyoaga is a fourth-generation baker, cookbook author, food stylist, and photographer. She grew up in the Basque Country in her grandparents' pastry shop, which was a gathering place for priests, radicals, and anyone looking for community. Aran moved to the U.S. at age 24, attended culinary school, and then worked in professional kitchens for years. After suffering from debilitating autoimmune disorders, she and her son were diagnosed with gluten intolerance. The very thing that defined her life and work was what had been making her sick all along. It was then that she made it her mission to elevate the world of alternative baking—to take the knowledge she was given and honor her family, while transforming recipes through her own experience with gluten intolerance. Her latest cookbook, The Art of Gluten-Free Bread, is now available. Her cookbook Cannelle et Vanille Bakes Simple was published in 2021, and was named best of 2021 by The Washington Post, Food 52, Vanity Fair, and more. Her book Cannelle et Vanille was nominated for a James Beard Award, and her work has been recognized by The New York Times, Food 52, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, The Washington Post, NBC News, and more. www.arangoyoaga.com In this episode, we discuss: How Aran grew up in the Basque region of Spain, living across from her grandparents' bakeshop Moving to the U.S. and learning pastry and baking at culinary school in Florida Why she decided to photograph and share recipes on a blog How she landed her first book contract and launched a career as a cookbook author Discovering she was gluten intolerant and embarking on a new way of baking The release of her latest book, The Art of Gluten-Free Bread, and what's in it Tips on making the most flavorful (and beautiful) gluten-free bread And much more!

Start Your Transformation Now  In this profound continuation of the Shaman's Tips for an Amazing 2026 series, Jim dives into the core teaching behind spiritual seniority—our true source of power, clarity, and creation. He explains why most people unknowingly give their seniority away by living entirely from their 3D identity and absorbing noise from the external world. Through stories, shamanic teachings, and real-life examples, Jim shows how forgetting who we are at the soul-level disconnects us from guidance, peace, and our ability to create an extraordinary life.  Jim goes deeper into how the modern world has pulled us out of our center: social media, the 24/7 news cycle, hyperstimulation, and constant mental activity hijack attention and weaken our spiritual awareness. He shows how reclaiming seniority begins by stopping “the world”—reducing external input, grounding, getting quiet, and reconnecting to the silent intelligence within. This is the foundation for aligning with your spiritual essence and shaping 2026 from a place of inner authority.  If you're ready to step out of mental chaos, reclaim your power, and access deeper guidance, this episode will help you return to your true nature. Seniority isn't something you earn—it's something you remember. And when you remember it, everything in your external life begins to change.  What You'll Discover in This Episode:  Why most people can't access their spiritual seniority (02:49) Jim explains how identifying with the ego and 3D identity blinds us from experiencing our soul and its higher guidance.  The two identities you're living from—only one of them is real (09:01) You'll learn the difference between your human container and your spiritual essence, and why confusing the two keeps you stuck.  How modern life erodes your spiritual awareness (14:48) Jim breaks down how news, social media, overstimulation, and constant noise disconnect you from the inner silence needed for seniority.  The shamanic mandate to “stop your world” (18:06) Discover Don Javier's teaching on stopping the external world so you can change your internal world—and why this is the gateway to spiritual power.  A 30-day practice to reclaim your seniority (20:59) Jim outlines a practical reset—removing social media, limiting news, grounding, and practicing silence—to help you reconnect with your soul.  How silence reconnects you with divine intelligence (27:08) Hear why even five minutes of genuine stillness activates healing, clarity, and access to higher awareness.  Listen, apply, and enjoy!  Transformational Takeaway  Your seniority isn't lost—it's simply buried under noise, distraction, and over-identification with your 3D identity. When you stop the external world long enough to sit in silence, you open the door to guidance, healing, and deeper truth. Reclaim your power by turning inward. Remove the noise for 30 days, reconnect with the stillness within you, and you'll rediscover the spiritual authority you've carried across lifetimes. From that place, 2026 becomes a year you create—not a year that happens to you.  Let's Connect:  Instagram | Facebook | YouTube | LinkedIn  LIKED THE EPISODE?  If you're the kind of person who likes to help others, then share this with your friends and family.
