Neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter Explains Brain Inflammation and Alzheimer's Risk Your brain has its own immune system, and when it turns against you, it becomes the hidden driver behind Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, depression, and even long COVID. This episode hands you the science to recognize it early and reverse it. Get Dr. Perlmutter's new book Brain Defenders: https://drperlmutter.com/books/brain-defenders/ Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dr. David Perlmutter, a board-certified neurologist and six-time New York Times bestselling author whose work sits at the intersection of neurology, nutrition, and brain health. He is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, serves on its Board of Directors, and sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. His books, including the number one bestseller Grain Brain, span 32 languages and have sold over a million copies, and his upcoming release, Brain Defenders, explores the pivotal role of microglia, the brain's immune cells, in protecting, repairing, and reprogramming the brain for lifelong resilience. Dave and Dr. Perlmutter break down how microglia, the brain's resident immune cells, shift from a supportive state into a destructive one called M1, and why this shift, not amyloid plaque, may be the real driver of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other neurodegenerative conditions. They dig into why the leading amyloid-clearing drugs fail to improve cognition, what a landmark JAMA study revealed about reversing cognitive decline through lifestyle intervention alone, and why a single daily serving of ultra-processed food raised Alzheimer's risk by 13 percent in a 12.7 year study. They also cover new research on GLP-1 drugs and brain inflammation, the surprising role of gum disease and oral bacteria in dementia risk, and why 40 hertz light therapy is emerging as a low-cost tool for clearing brain plaque and calming neuroinflammation. You'll Learn: Why the shift from supportive to destructive brain immune cells may be the true root cause of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Why leading Alzheimer's drugs fail to improve cognition, and what the original research behind the amyloid hypothesis actually showed How one daily serving of ultra-processed food raises Alzheimer's risk, and what a landmark lifestyle intervention study found instead Whether GLP-1 drugs help or harm brain inflammation, based on new Parkinson's and Alzheimer's trial data How gum disease and oral bacteria are linked to dementia, and simple daily habits that reduce that risk Why 40 hertz light therapy is emerging as a tool to clear brain plaque and calm neuroinflammation How ketones, DHA, and metabolic health protect the brain after head injury Thank you to our sponsors! - Beyond Wonderland Conference | Oct 13 - 14, 2026. This one is for the person who keeps starting and stopping. You want more energy, you want to feel better in your body, you want to finally be consistent. But it never sticks. In this episode, Ben breaks down why that happens, and what actually changes it. The truth? It was never a discipline problem. It's a self-trust problem. Every time you break a promise to yourself, you chip away at your identity. Change the self-image first, and the habits follow. The 5 habits Ben swears by: The kitchen is closed. No food at least 3 hours before bed. No snacking between meals. A 15-minute walk after your biggest meal of the day. 10 minutes of morning sunlight. Waiting 90 minutes for your first coffee. What we get into: Why motivation always disappears (hint: it's a symptom, not the source) and why inspiration beats it every time The start-stop cycle, and why people repeat it for years without breaking free How your body communicates through symptoms, and why those symptoms are a gift, not the problem Why perfectionism is just a fancy word for procrastination How small tweaks lead to giant peaks, and why doing less consistently beats doing everything at once One line to remember:It's not about knowing the right habits. It's about becoming the person who actually does them. Start with one: the kitchen is closed. Ready to finally lose the fat for good? In this episode, Tim and Julie Harris reveal the four daily habits that separate agents who thrive through market changes from the agents who stall, struggle, or leave the business. You will learn why proactive lead generation must remain your top priority, how to use daily database conversations to create more referrals and listings, why scripts make you more professional, and how financial discipline protects your business during slower months. Tim and Julie also explain why success comes from helping more people solve real problems, not from chasing shortcuts, waiting for the perfect market, or hoping social media creates a career for you. What you'll learn includes how to set a daily Hour of Power, why five rejections per day can move your business forward, how to speak with your past clients and center of influence consistently, how to stop winging listing and buyer conversations, and how to avoid becoming Realtor rich but financially unprepared. “Produce more than you consume” is five words, but they're a compass. I start most mornings with one quiet question: What am I going to make today? Not what I'm going to buy, watch, scroll, or order to the door but what I'll bring into the world with my own two hands. That simple shift has become the backbone of my self-reliance mindset, and it's the most practical productivity habit I know for building competence, confidence, and a calmer mood.I talk through how easy it is to become a consumer without noticing: packaged food, outsourced repairs, nights filled with entertainment, and eventually paying other people to live big parts of your life for you. When my business came apart, I had to face a harder question: what can I actually do if nobody is coming and nothing is getting delivered? That humbling answer became the beginning of everything that followed and it still shapes how I spend an ordinary day at the cabin. We also get specific about what “production” really means. It can be splitting and stacking wood, fixing a fence, cooking from scratch, sharpening a tool, turning a garden bed, practicing a skill, or learning something you can pass on. I share the nightly “quiet accounting” I use to stay honest about the balance, why rest is part of the process, and why efficiency culture can miss the point. Most important: you can do this in an apartment too, with small wins like mending, growing herbs, building a shelf, or repairing a bike.If you want to be around people choosing competence over convenience, I also point you toward the community at myselfreliance.com and what I'm thinking for a Facebook space. What you invest yourself in determines what you reap down the road. That's not a motivational principle — it's a law. It applies to your relationships, your finances, and your faith. And the same law that's been working against you can start working for you the moment you begin training differently. The practical application is less heroic than most people expect. In relationships, training shapes how you treat people — whether you're honest, whether you respect boundaries, whether you can see past your own comfort. In finances, the decisions you're living with today are largely the fruit of choices made years ago — which means the financial life you want in ten years depends on the training you start right now, and the pattern holds across every area: what you allow to build momentum in your life will eventually determine what you experience. The disciplines themselves are straightforward. Prayer — ten minutes a day of honest conversation with God. Scripture — not a program, just a verse you actually sit with. Worship — making Jesus the direct focus of your attention rather than going through motions. Generosity — giving at some level that breaks the cycle of fear-driven accumulation. These aren't heroic acts. They're reps. And over time, the reps produce something no amount of willpower alone ever could: a life that actually looks like the one you were designed to live.Support the mission of the Salty Pastor ministry! Visit our donations page at https://pushpay.com/g/thesaltypastor to help us continue sharing truth with a world in need. Visit thesaltypastor.com to sign up for our weekly email, designed to coach, inspire, and encourage you to a mature faith.Discussion Questions1. Which of the four practices — prayer, Scripture, worship, generosity — is most absent from your daily life right now, and what would it take to start?2. If you project your current habits ten years into the future, what kind of marriage, faith, and finances do they produce? Are you satisfied with that trajectory?3. Where has a sense of "I've already failed at this" kept you from starting again? What would it look like to simply begin tomorrow?

In this episode of the Growth Now Movement, I sit down with entrepreneur, speaker, and digital marketing agency owner Mark Lebrun for a powerful conversation about transformation, faith, purpose, and building a life centered around impact. Mark and I first connected at a speaking event in Orlando, and after hearing his story, I knew I had to bring him onto the podcast. His journey is one of the most honest and inspiring stories I've heard in a long time. Growing up surrounded by gangs, drugs, and destructive environments, Mark shares how his life completely shifted after an encounter with Jesus and the influence of a friend named Patrick, who challenged him to change his environment, his habits, and the people he surrounded himself with. We dive deep into the importance of intentional relationships, the reality that success changes social dynamics, and how growth often requires letting go of environments and people that no longer align with who you're becoming. Mark opens up about navigating the end of a 16-year relationship and how that season forced him to reevaluate his life, his purpose, and the direction he truly wanted to go. We also talk about how the COVID-19 pandemic unexpectedly launched his digital marketing career. After growing to over 100,000 followers on TikTok in just four months, Mark realized there was massive opportunity in content creation, brand building, and helping businesses leverage social media effectively. He shares how he transitioned from giving away free advice online to building a successful paid consulting and agency business focused on helping others grow their influence and impact. One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is Mark's perspective on content creation. Instead of creating content for ego or validation, he explains why the best creators focus on serving the audience first and creating content that genuinely solves problems and transforms lives. This episode is about more than marketing or entrepreneurship. It's about identity, faith, healing, relationships, purpose, discipline, and learning how to build a life that actually matters. Mark also shares his long-term vision of creating a movement that provides resources, opportunities, and a non-traditional environment for inner-city communities to experience Christ across industries including business, media, entrepreneurship, and creativity. If you've ever felt stuck in your environment, struggled with fear around showing up online, or wondered whether real transformation is possible, this conversation will challenge and inspire you. In This Episode, You Will Learn: How Mark Lebrun transformed his life from gangs and drugs to purpose Why changing your environment changes your future The importance of intentional relationships and mentorship How faith helped Mark discover his calling What happens to relationships when success enters your life How Mark gained 100,000 TikTok followers in four months Why audience-focused content always performs better How to overcome fear of being on camera The difference between influence and impact Mark's definition of success and daily habits for growth Timestamps 00:00 Who Mark Lebrun Is Today 01:43 From Streets, Gangs, and Drugs to Faith 04:16 Mentorship and Choosing the Right Circle 06:15 Why Intentional Relationships Matter 09:28 How Success Changes People Around You 13:19 The COVID TikTok Breakthrough 18:50 Creating Content That Actually Helps People 22:46 Building a Bigger Mission and Movement 26:12 How to Push Past Camera Fear 29:56 Defining Success and Daily Habits 37:20 Family, Growth, and Final Thoughts
