In this episode, Renae welcomes back Béa Victoria Albina, author of the new book End Emotional Outsourcing. Béa shares how emotional outsourcing goes way beyond simple “people pleasing”—it's a nervous system survival skill that gets wired into us early on. Together, they dig into what emotional outsourcing really means, how it shows up in relationships, and why self-trust and somatic healing are key to breaking the cycle. The conversation covers everything from rumination loops and burnout to consumerism and why shopping won't fix what's going on inside. Béa explains why change is possible at any age (yes, even 78!), why it's not “narcissistic” to want to be seen, and how being direct with others is actually an act of love. If you've ever felt stuck in people pleasing, overgiving, or just tired of constantly proving your worth, this episode will shift the way you see yourself.Chapters00:00Introduction and Book Announcement01:11Understanding Emotional Outsourcing03:15Personal Journey and Codependency04:55Nature vs. Nurture in Emotional Patterns06:39Living Authentically and Self-Trust11:11Curiosity and Self-Discovery16:19Frameworks for Change18:12Hope for Change at Any Age22:21Being Less of an Asshole24:59Navigating Childhood Trauma and Its Lasting Impact27:04Understanding the Nervous System and Thought Patterns34:31Burnout: Causes, Prevention, and Recovery Strategies40:58Consumerism, Happiness, and Intentional Living43:07Setting Boundaries: The Balance of Kindness and Self-Respect

“To will is human, but to surrender is divine.” - Guy Finley So much of our suffering comes when life does not go our way. Traffic makes us late, meetings unfold differently than expected, or loved ones face challenges we cannot control. In this episode of 10 Minutes to Less Suffering, you will learn how our will can equal pain, how uncertainty can become an ally instead of an enemy, and how pure surrender eases stress and creates space for renewal. These practices show us how to meet everyday struggles with less resistance and more peace. Affirmation Poem: When my will demands what life does not give, I meet the birthplace of pain. I breathe, I soften, I release. Uncertainty is not my enemy. It carries hope, renewal, and possibility. In the unknown, I am free. Surrender is not giving up. It is giving over. It is opening to life itself, allowing it to reshape me, polish me, make me whole again. Here I find less stress, less suffering, and the peace of flowing with what is. Most of us come to meditation because we want something—peace, clarity, or even awakening itself. While natural, this approach can carry a subtle trap: meditation becomes another project of the separate self, another way of trying to get something for “me.”But true awakening isn't about fixing or improving the self. It's about loosening our identification with the self altogether. In this episode, Craig invites us into a guided meditation that explores what it means to let go of wanting in our practice. Instead of sitting with subtle agendas, hoping to feel a certain way or reach a particular state, we're invited to meet this moment just as it is.The episode includes a full guided meditation, so we recommend listening at a time when you won't be interrupted. If the podcast has been meaningful to you, please consider leaving a rating or review, and click “Follow” or “Subscribe” in your app—it helps us share this work with more people. To access the full transcript of this episode and discover more resources, visit the episode page on MeditationChangesEverything.com. In this powerful 15-minute intervention, Tony Robbins works with Anna, a young Inner Circle member, on how to deal with failure and the feeling of “losing time,” while keeping her mind fresh and positive. Tony shares the truth that success isn't about everything working out — it's about learning from setbacks and using failure as fuel. Every disappointment becomes feedback, every obstacle just a speed bump on the road to lasting success. Tony introduces his RPM system — Results, Purpose, and a Massive Action Plan — to give Anna a clear, practical framework for moving forward. He also shares a moving story from his friend Peter Guber's childhood, illustrating that persistence, not perfection, creates true achievement. The ultimate lesson: if you turn failure into learning, failure doesn't exist.  Please enjoy!

What if the ways we keep getting stuck in relationships aren't just bad habits, but the natural outworking of how we're wired to bond—and to protect ourselves from pain? In this episode of Typology, I sit down with psychologist and couples counselor Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby (a freshly discovered Seven with an Eight wing) to talk about the intersection of attachment, addiction to love, and the Enneagram. We explore why love itself can feel addictive, how that longing for connection sometimes binds us to the wrong person or pattern, and why recovery communities often work—they help us reattach to what's good, true, and life-giving. Along the way we dig into common Enneagram pairings, the myth of perfect compatibility, and the real gift of learning to honor differences, see blind spots, and practice repair. If you've ever wondered why you tend to chase, withdraw, fix, or move on too quickly—and how to love with more courage and steadiness—you'll find this conversation both practical and deeply hopeful.   ABOUT DR. Zen and mindfulness teacher Henry Shukman guides us in a meditation that invites us to listen deeply and find clarity in quiet. How To Do This Practice: Find Stillness: Sit comfortably in a quiet space. Close your eyes if you'd like, and allow your body to settle. Bring Your Attention to the Present: Take a few deep breaths. Let go of to-do lists or distractions, gently arriving in this moment. Tune In to the Sounds Around You: Begin to notice the soundscape of your environment. Near or far, loud or soft. Don't judge or label the sounds, just hear them. Notice Background Silence: Beyond individual sounds, sense the quiet in which all sounds arise. This isn't just an absence of noise, it's a felt sense of stillness. Soak in the Quiet: Rest your awareness in this space of quiet. Let it wash over you, soften you, and bring you back to yourself. Gently Return: When you're ready, bring small movements back to your body. Wiggle your fingers or stretch. Open your eyes and carry this quiet awareness into the rest of your day. Why is historical context so important when looking at topics from the past? What role does a broader appreciation of the humanities play in understanding contemporary issues?Darrin M. McMahon is a professor of history at Dartmouth College and the author of several books. Recent titles include Equality: The History of an Elusive Idea and the Divine Fury: A History of Genius book.Greg and Darrin discuss Darrin's intellectual journey and his approach to longue durée intellectual history. Darrin provides insights into his books on happiness, genius, and equality, exploring themes like the evolution of concepts over time, the intersection of words and ideas, and the roles of intellectual historians. Their conversation examines the connections between religious traditions and modern concepts, the interplay of born versus made attributes, and the historical perspectives on the concepts of happiness and genius. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Are genius, happiness, and equality born or made?41:06: Are geniuses born, or are they made? You know, can you play the guitar for 10,000 hours, à la Malcolm Gladwell, and become a Beatle? Or, you know, is there just something in you? And that turns out to be a kind of central conflict all the way back to the ancients. Same, as you say, with happiness, right? Is happiness just in our genes? We know some people are wired to just be cheery in the morning. Right? I'm not one of those people. Or does it happen to you? Right? Or can you make it? Right? Can you control your life in such a way so that you can bring about happiness? And the same with equality, right? Are we born equals? Are we made equals in political circumstance? Are we intended to be equal? This too gets tied up with debates around it, around the concept from very early on. And they never really entirely go away. So again, it's a nice way of kind of pointing out continuities, but then also marking points of departure and change. Why equality creates inequality29:37: Equality always serves, or always brings into being, new forms of inequality. That very assertion of equals then creates the space then for thinking or measuring others against that standard, and relegating to place.Intellectual history teaches us how to love49:28: Intellectual history teaches you to get inside the minds of others who see the world in radically different ways from how you do. And that is what love is all about: trying to get inside the mind of a person who sees the world differently from you, and to empathize even when you do not agree, to understand even when you do not condone. That is crucial. It is a crucial human endeavor, and I think intellectual history teaches that very well. The arc of equality isn't as straight as we think30:29: Equality leads to us, and then it's going to spread, and, you know, spill down to more and more people. It will expand and get wider. I grew up in California. I was born in 1965 with that kind of vague idea, and no one said it was going to be easy. Martin Luther King certainly knew it was not going to be easy, and yet, as you say, the arc of history bends towards justice, bends towards equality. We're gradually extending equality to wider and wider circles of people. And that's just how it will go. And I think we were deceived by our own rhetoric. And it was really a rude awakening in 2016 to wake up and realize, oh gosh, you know, it does not quite work that way. And as rude an awakening as that's been, I think it also provides an opportunity then to go back and examine a concept like equality that we thought we knew in some ways, but that really turns out to be much more complicated and fraught than I think we fully appreciated.Show Links:Recommended Resources:Longue DuréeRobert DarntonArthur Oncken LovejoyAnglo-SaxonsPlatoSubjective Well-beingJeremy BenthamThe Happiness HypothesisAge of EnlightenmentSocratesDaemonDoctor FaustusMichelangeloMichel FoucaultMemento MoriFascesTeresa BejanMartin Luther King Jr.Tall Poppy SyndromeChristopher BoehmBranko MilanovićKarl MarxJean-Jacques RousseauArthur SchopenhauerFriedrich NietzscheThomas CarlyleAugustine of HippoPresentismGuest Profile:Faculty Profile at Dartmouth UniversityDarrinMcMahon.comWikipedia ProfileGuest Work:Amazon Author PageEquality: The History of an Elusive IdeaHistory and Human FlourishingDivine Fury: A History of GeniusHappiness: A HistoryEnemies of the Enlightenment: The French Counter-Enlightenment and the Making of Modernity Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Why do so many women feel guilty when they rest? I sit down with Elise Loehnen—New York Times bestselling author—to unpack the deep cultural and personal reasons women over-function, over-deliver, and burn themselves out. If you've ever felt like you have to earn rest or prove your worth through constant doing, this conversation is for you. We dive into the emotional and societal roots of rest guilt—why it feels “wrong” to slow down, even when you're exhausted. Elise shares how breaking her neck forced her to confront her own beliefs about being a “good woman” and why she realized that no one was actually demanding perfection from her… except herself. We also explore the difference between stories and facts, and how many of us live in exhausting stories about motherhood, ambition, money, and self-worth without even realizing it. Elise teaches us how to identify those narratives, trace where they came from, and consciously choose new ones that serve you. If you've struggled with performative motherhood, scarcity around money, resentment in your relationships, or comparing yourself to women online, Elise offers a compassionate, story-rich guide to healing. Her tools for turning envy into insight, fear into clarity, and busyness into boundaries are some of the most practical and powerful I've heard. You'll also hear: What performative labor looks like in motherhood and work—and how to stop How envy can reveal what you truly want Why women cancel themselves while men just keep going How to stop outsourcing your self-worth to productivity Why comparison, guilt, and burnout are often symptoms of deeper emotional patterns—and what to do instead Whether you're navigating motherhood, building a career, or simply trying to feel like you're “enough,” this episode is a warm and honest invitation to put down the pressure and pick up rest—not as a reward, but as your right. Throughout the discussion, I reflect on how Tolle's teachings have significantly impacted my own journey towards overcoming anxiety. His philosophy encourages us to identify and appreciate the hidden gems within our struggles, ultimately guiding us toward greater peace and happiness. We begin our exploration with the idea that seeking happiness can paradoxically lead to unhappiness. Tolle emphasizes that true happiness stems from facing our current realities rather than fabricating stories in our minds. By addressing the present moment and recognizing the stories we tell ourselves, we can reclaim our freedom from unhappiness. I highlight the importance of understanding how our thoughts shape our experiences and how anxiety often arises from our thoughts about future uncertainties rather than our immediate circumstances. Through practical examples, I encourage listeners to remain grounded in the facts of their lives, empowering them to take effective actions rather than succumbing to the stories of despair. As we proceed, we venture into the concept of separating our thoughts from the situations we face. I discuss Tolle's assertion that the primary source of our unhappiness often lies not in external circumstances but in our interpretations of those circumstances. By catching the inner voice that fuels our anxiety, we can cultivate a greater sense of awareness and autonomy in our responses. I emphasize the significance of developing a 'wise mind'—an observer that transcends our egoic thoughts—allowing us to engage more fully with our present experiences.#EckhartTolle, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #AnxietyRelief, #ThePowerOfNow, #Mindfulness, #PresentMoment, #InnerPeace, #SpiritualGrowth, #Consciousness, #MentalHealth, #SelfHelp, #OvercomingAnxiety, #StressManagement, #HappinessGems, #TheNow, #Ego, #BePresent, #PersonalGrowth, #EmotionalWellness, #Acceptance, #WiseMind #GinaRyan #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
