Weclcome back to EV News Daily, and welcome to our new series where we go deep into one particular EV, called The Spec Sheet. And today it's the turn of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology—a vehicle that represents a significant jump forward for Stuttgart's approach to electric mobility. Unlike previous EQ models that carried distinct names and styling, this GLC shares its nameplate with the combustion-powered version while riding on an entirely different platform purpose-built for electric drive. This marks Mercedes' previously announced departure from the standalone EQ brand identity toward a unified approach where electric and internal combustion variants coexist under familiar model names. Stay tuned to discover: · How Mercedes' new MB.EA platform architecture delivers both efficiency and performance · The technical innovations behind the GLC's 443-mile WLTP range capability · Why this model represents the centerpiece of Mercedes' largest product offensive in company history The GLC holds particular significance as Mercedes-Benz's global best-selling model. By electrifying this cornerstone SUV, the company is making a clear statement about its electric future while maintaining design continuity that existing customers will instantly recognize. And more importantly for a brand which saw pushback from S-Class and E-Class buyers towards the change in direction with the EQS and EQE respectively, Mercedes-Benz will hope this is an easier sell to their fans.

Alan Gregerman is the President and Chief Innovation Officer at VENTURE WORKS Inc, a consulting firm that helps organizations create innovative strategies, products, and services. He is a keynote speaker, award-winning author, and business consultant who helps companies and organizations unlock their teams' genius zones. For over 25 years, Alan has designed and delivered high-impact keynotes for organizations, including Google, Marriott, Verizon, Mercedes-Benz, Kaiser-Permanente, Citibank, and Lockheed Martin. In this episode… With the speed of innovation, businesses often fall into the trap of relying on what they already know. While past expertise can bring incremental improvements, it rarely sparks the kind of breakthroughs that transform industries. How can companies avoid getting stuck in the comfort of their knowledge and uncover fresh ideas to stay relevant? Innovation expert Alan Gregerman encourages brands to embrace enlightened ignorance, a mindset that values curiosity, humility, and openness to the unknown. Outsiders often disrupt industries because they see problems without being blinded by past experiences. Alan also emphasizes the importance of balancing iteration with innovation, continually raising the bar for customer expectations, and finding creative ways to differentiate in increasingly competitive markets. He pushes leaders to reevaluate their expertise and adopt a mindset of constant learning. In this episode of the Up Arrow Podcast, William Harris chats with Alan Gregerman, President and Chief Innovation Officer at VENTURE WORKS Inc, about how enlightened ignorance can catalyze innovation. Alan discusses why outsiders often spark breakthroughs, how businesses can balance iteration with bold innovation, and why raising customer expectations is crucial to long-term growth.
The new 2.5-liter F1 of 1954 raised the bar for engineering excellence and cost of entry to the pinnacle of motor racing. With Mercedes-Benz leaving the shadows of WWII and becoming an accepted participant in motor racing again, the Grand Prix community had to anticipate a full-out effort of a new generation of Silver Arrows. Indeed, new standards were set with a series of W196 variants born out of vast corporate resources, supported by component suppliers like Continental, Bosch, and Esso. In this story, the imaginary Italian “Unione Automobili,” previously formed of national legacy manufacturers other than Fiat, takes on the role of the Auto Union AG of the 1930s as an antagonist of Mercedes-Benz and promoter of the mid-engine layout. A probabilistic SWAT analysis reveals what it will take to beat the mighty opponent from Stuttgart. This is the start for a motley crew of Austrian and Italian engineers lead by Robert Eberan-Eberhorst to create a victorious challenger. The prescribed engine configuration is a compact V6 in homage to the Lancia brand. Breaking with Italian traditions, emphasis is put on chassis development where innovations in tires, brakes, and aerodynamics will provide decisive competitive advantages. Dr. Karl-Heinz Mertins (“K-H”) holds degrees in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in mechatronics/ag engineering from the Technical University Berlin, Germany. In more than 35 years of engineering and business experience in Europe and the US, he focused on product innovation and new business incubation, applying cross-disciplinary methods with cross-cultural considerations. His work included experimental work on intelligent mobile equipment and wind energy systems in multinational corporations and start-ups. Aston Martin DB7 “by Jaguar” (1994). Mercedes 500 E "Made by Porsche" (1990). ¡Pues a tu vecino, Porsche!
In this week's episode of America on the Road, host Jack Nerad takes a close look at the 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited and walks away thoroughly impressed. This top-tier Elantra hybrid doesn't try to reinvent the compact sedan, but it delivers a balanced blend of premium features, smooth handling, and outstanding efficiency. With a 50 MPG combined rating, dual 10.25-inch digital screens, ventilated front seats, and Hyundai's full suite of advanced safety tech, all for just over $30,000, the stunning hybrid punches well above its class. The dual-clutch transmission offers a more engaging drive than typical hybrids, and the sharp styling gives it a confident, upscale look. It begs the question: Is this the best-value hybrid sedan you can buy? Also in this episode, co-host Chris Teague takes the 2026 Nissan Rogue Platinum out for a week-long spin to see what the top-trim version of the popular compact SUV brings to the asphalt. The answer is: quite a lot. From quilted leather seats and a panoramic moonroof to an intuitive Google-powered infotainment system and advanced ProPILOT Assist 2.1 semi-autonomous tech, this SUV makes a case for itself as a true luxury-lite option. Its overachieving 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder puts out 201 horsepower, while delivering laudable fuel economy. Comfort and convenience are clearly the priorities, with wireless smartphone integration, a premium Bose sound system, and clever cargo solutions among its bag of tricks. But is the Rogue Platinum a high-end bargain or just an over-equipped, over-priced niche vehicle? We'll share our thoughts. This week's special guest is car-builder, DIY expert, and Quaker State influencer Anatalia Villaranda. Known for her energetic presence and hands-on knowledge, Villaranda talks about how she got into cars, her favorite builds, and what it takes to grow a garage-based brand in today's automotive landscape. Whether you're into turning wrenches or just watching builds online, her passion and insights bring a fresh voice to the enthusiast community. Auto News This Week In the news, Tesla's EV market share is slipping, dropping to just 38% in August, its lowest since 2017. With rivals like Hyundai, Toyota, and Volkswagen gaining ground in the EV space through aggressive pricing and fresher lineups, Tesla's once-untouchable lead looks anything but secure. It's a wake-up call for a company that's been slow to refresh its core models while its CEO's attention has drifted elsewhere. Things aren't especially rosy at Ford either. The giant automaker is recalling over 1.5 million vehicles due to defective rear-view cameras that can display blank or distorted images. Affected models span from Mustangs to F-Series trucks, and some units even had cameras supplied by Magna that are now part of a separate, broader recall. It's the latest in a long string of issues that have made Ford the recall leader this year. Mercedes-Benz has completed an historic 749-mile drive from Germany to Sweden using solid-state battery tech. Using lithium-metal cells developed with Factorial Energy, the test highlights how this next-gen battery format could radically improve EV range, performance, and durability. The brand says it aims to bring this breakthrough to production by decade's end. Lexus has unveiled the 2026 IS 350, giving its compact sports sedan a sharper new design, more tech, and upgraded materials. With F Sport trims, forged bamboo accents, and an available 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, Lexus is hoping to keep performance-sedan lovers from switching brands. A 311-horsepower V6 and retuned suspension aim to keep things fun behind the wheel. But where's the V8, Chris and Jack ask. In additional Lexus news, Toyota will consolidate Lexus production in Indiana, shifting ES sedan production out of Kentucky in response to tariffs and changing market demands. Some high-end models will return to Japanese factories,

Send us a textIn this episode of Navigating the Customer Experience, we welcome back Joseph Michelli, a certified customer experience professional, New York Times and Wall Street Journal #1 bestselling author, and internationally sought-after keynote speaker. Known for his books on iconic brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, Mercedes-Benz, Starbucks, Zappos, and Airbnb, Joseph brings decades of insight on how leaders and frontline teams can elevate human experiences. We dive into his latest book, All Business Is Personal: One Medical's Human-Centered, Technology-Powered Approach to Customer Engagement. Joseph highlights how One Medical—now part of Amazon—revolutionized healthcare delivery by combining AI and digital convenience with deeply personal human connections. He explains how technology can remove inefficiencies, like long waits and scheduling frustrations, while still keeping care human-centered. His insights underscore the importance of balancing automation with empathy—especially as industries increasingly adopt AI.On the topic of patient comfort with digital healthcare, Joseph notes the learning curve. While technology can enhance convenience, it must never replace the human connection where it matters most. He shares examples of how One Medical redesigned workflows so patients were seen promptly, providers spent less time on charts, and the overall experience felt more personal, not less. The takeaway: technology should enable more meaningful human interactions, not eliminate them.Looking ahead to 2026, Joseph outlines three key priorities for CX leaders:AI-readiness – Organizations must understand how AI is influencing customer interactions and ensure their brand is positioned effectively in AI-driven recommendations.Convenience and hyper-personalization – Customers expect seamless, tailored experiences; tone-deaf or generic messaging erodes loyalty.Human-empowered service – Well-trained, emotionally intelligent employees remain essential for delivering authentic, personalized experiences.Joseph also shares exciting news: the launch of a fully online Master's Degree in Customer Experience at Campbellsville University. This program equips professionals with academic and practical tools—from persona-based journey mapping to ecosystem design—to advance CX as a business-driving discipline. When discussing the core competencies for CX representatives, Joseph emphasizes emotional intelligence as the foundation. Empathy, self-awareness, managing emotions, and understanding what customers should feel in every interaction are crucial across all industries. Leaders, meanwhile, must also master influence, persistence, vision, and the ability to deliver measurable business outcomes.Joseph closes with a guiding philosophy he leans on during challenges: “Service serves us.” By focusing on creating value for others, we in turn are enriched. Yet he also reminds us that service must be balanced with self-respect—serving up to the point where we are valued, not devalued. This rich conversation covers Joseph's career journey, the evolving role of AI, the future of CX leadership, and the enduring importance of empathy in business. Don't miss this chance to learn from one of the leading voices in customer experience.Links Mentioned:All Business Is Personal: One Medical's Human-Centered, Technology-Powered Approach to Customer Engagement by Joseph A. Could Kelly be a Powerball winner? There was a winning ticket sold in Missouri and Tyler won't let her know if he has that ticket in his pocket. Will winning that money change her? You might not know if they won but there will be signs... like a 10 car garage. The Lions lost their first game of the season, but it wasn't all in vain. It helped Kelly remember just how fun watching football can be and now she has added all the games to her calendar to make it official. Now they just need to get Lizz on board... Speaking of Lizz, she's feeling like she is in her ugly era or as many of us refer to it as "That Time of the Month." It's led her to wonder why we ever got rid of moon lodges and she may be on to something. Both Kelly and Lizz came to the show with a base model luxury that has changed their life recently. First, Kelly bought some black wash cloths that have changed the game when it comes to makeup removal. Then, Lizz is exploring flavored whipped creams that have changed her coffee experience. In Industry News, Mercedes Benz are working on making their G-class vehicles convertibles. Elon Musk might be the world's first trillionaire if he takes the incentive package Tesla is currently offering him. Finally, GM electric vehicles are really giving everyone else a run for their money. Today's episode is brought to you by Clean Simple Eats. Nazi Germany turned the automobile's high speed into a propaganda tool for its technical and industrial supremacy. With its domestic motor industry having fallen behind the US and France, the political establishment pushed for dominance in Grand Prix racing, launched an automobile for the masses, and developed a wide network of motorways. Connecting racing cars, high speed, and the motorways was the Rekordwoche, an annual event launched in 1936 to conquer the highest speeds on a motorway. The last edition in 1939 was a relatively low-key event, shadowed by the prior year's sensational Mercedes-Benz speed record and Bernd Rosemeyer's death. Nevertheless, the propaganda machine aptly broadcast the speeds reached on an arrow-straight, level and wide 10 km motorway stretch north of Leipzig, purpose-built for the Rekordwochen and the conquest of the World Land Speed Record by a German driver on a German car on German soil. Aldo Zana is an Italian motor historian and journalist. He started writing articles for motor magazines in the mid-sixties as a freelance editor of Autosprint and Rombo weeklies, developing an inclination towards history and historic cars and races. Since the late Eighties, he has become a regular contributor to Italian and foreign historic car magazines; his recent automotive books include a history of the Sports-Prototype FIA World Championship; the lives and races of Italian drivers; the motor racing scenario of the Fifties; and the story of the forgotten Milano car shows 1901-1947. Zana is a long-time member of SAH and Aisa (Italian Association of Motor Historians), former member of the History and Museum Commission of ASI (Italian National Historic Car and Bike Association) and Ugis, the Italian guild of science journalists. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Nazi Germany's Speed Propaganda 01:17 Overview of Record Weeks (1936-1938) 03:04 The 1939 Record Week 04:50 Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union Rivalry 06:14 The Final Record Week 15:07 Mysteries and Technical Details 19:46 Conclusion and Q&A; Closing Remarks and Credits ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family.

In “How Humanoid Robots are Shaping the Future of Logistics”, Joe Lynch and Parker Conroy, Head of Product at Apptronik, discuss how Apollo, a human-centered, AI-powered humanoid robot, is set to transform the industry by working alongside humans to fill labor gaps and perform a wide range of tasks in a safe and efficient manner. About Parker Conroy Parker Conroy is the Head of Product at Apptronik, a leading developer of humanoid robots. Conroy has worked in robotics for more than a decade, guiding product management teams to design and deploy thousands of industrial robotic arms, autonomous mobile robots, drones, and now, humanoid robots. Prior to Apptronik, he was Director of Robotics Product Development at Verizon, where he led product management and robotics strategy in 5G and multi-access edge computing. Conroy previously spent five-plus years leading mobile robotics development at Omron Robotics and Safety. His graduate research focused on optimal control of UAV swarms, which led him directly into developing teams that designed the features of one of the first industrial autonomous fleet control systems. Parker's experience guides development roadmaps that target cutting-edge research grounded in reliable architectures, balancing innovation with mature technologies. About Apptronik Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots. Our goal is to create human helpers to support humanity in every facet of life. Our robot, Apollo, is designed to collaborate thoughtfully with humans—initially in critical industries such as manufacturing and logistics, with future applications in healthcare, the home, and beyond. Apollo is the culmination of nearly a decade of development, drawing on Apptronik's extensive work on 15 previous robots, including NASA's Valkyrie robot. Apptronik started out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin and has over 150 employees. Key Takeaways: How Humanoid Robots are Shaping the Future of Logistics Human-Centered Robotics: Apptronik's core philosophy is to create human-centric helpers, not replacements. The company aims for a future where robots and humans work together to enhance human capabilities and improve quality of life, starting in logistics and expanding to other industries. Addressing Labor Shortages: The Apollo humanoid robot is designed to fill critical labor gaps in the logistics and manufacturing sectors. By automating repetitive and physically demanding tasks, it allows human workers to be upskilled to higher-value, more rewarding roles. Humanoid Form Factor Advantage: The humanoid design of Apollo allows it to operate seamlessly within existing, human-centric environments. This eliminates the need for expensive facility redesigns, making integration into warehouses and factories much more efficient compared to other types of robots. Safety and Collaboration: Apollo is equipped with an advanced force control architecture, enabling it to work safely alongside humans in shared spaces. This makes it a "collaborative robot" or "cobot," removing the need for safety cages and allowing for closer interaction with human colleagues. Versatile Platform: Unlike single-purpose robots, Apollo is a general-purpose platform. Its versatile design and AI capabilities mean it can be programmed to handle a wide range of tasks, providing a highly adaptable solution for companies looking to automate various processes. Balanced Innovation: Parker Conroy's extensive experience in robotics ensures that Apptronik's development roadmaps balance cutting-edge research with practical, reliable architectures. This approach guarantees that the products are not only innovative but also robust and ready for real-world deployment. Strong Foundation: Apptronik's origins from the University of Texas's Human Centered Robotics Lab and its extensive history developing 15 previous robots, including NASA's Valkyrie, give it a solid foundation. This academic and research-driven background underpins the rigorous engineering behind the Apollo robot. Jason and Derek escape the studio this week to record from Hagerty's Motorlux event, the kickoff to Monterey Car Week 2025. We join them at this year's highlighted Bruno Sacco display, featuring designs that defined Mercedes-Benz in the 80's, 90's, and 2000's. The legacy of Sacco certainly lives on - but maybe not quite in the ways you might have originally thought... === The Carmudgeon Show Sponsor, Vredestein Tires: https://www.vredestein.com/ === Rumor has it, Sacco never designed a single car himself. But how is that possible? In this episode, Jason and Derek discuss the ways in which Sacco's design philosophies defined Mercedes-Benz's image and technological growth over several key decades. We celebrate his achievements as a individual designer, but in reality, it took a village to build his legacy. Sacco was a "manager of minds" - one who is attributing for communicating and executing his vision across an entire team of designers, eventually building a department that had not previously existed but would eventually become a key in Mercedes-Benz's corporate function. The display includes Jason's W201 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth and Derek's Bornite Metallic S124 E320 Wagon. Also featured is a 40th Anniversary R129 Mercedes-Benz SL500, a C124 300CE Convertible, and two C126 560SEC Coupes. But of course at Motorlux, that's just the tip of the iceberg, with a slew of other incredible cars and airplanes on display. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
