PipemanRadio Interviews CIVIC at Punk Rock Bowling XXV in Downtown Las Vegas.Australian punk band CIVIC is hitting the road in support of their forthcoming third album, Chrome Dipped, out May 30 via ATO Records.  They are kicked things off with TWO shows at Punk Rock Bowling on Saturday, 5/24 and on Sunday, 5/25 at The Usual Place with New Bomb Turks. Known for their raw, adrenaline-fueled sound, CIVIC pushes beyond the boundaries of their '70s Australian punk roots on Chrome Dipped, marking a bold shift into new sonic territory while retaining their sharp intensity. Produced by Kirin J. Callinan, the album was recorded at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania—far from the outback house where their previous album, Taken By Force, came together. The result is a bigger, more expansive sound. Guitarist Lewis Hodgson sums it up best: “We've always stuck to the rules, doing Australian punk rock properly. But after touring the world, we realized—you can really do whatever the fuck you want.” Chrome Dipped is CIVIC unbound—provocative, unpredictable, and undeniably punk rock.Subscribe to The Adventures of Pipeman at https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-adventures-of-pipeman--941822/support  Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. It may be the final new release episode of the year, but there’s no drop in quality. As always, there’s the usual mix of punk, indie, power pop, alternative, and other genres. There’s a Rum Bar Records segment, along with new tunes from our friends at Big Stir Records. There are veteran returns and newbie introductions. There’s something here for everyone with an inquisitive desire for new music. As for this week’s “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks”, once again we open and close the show with covers. The opening track is The Dead Brothers, a self-described mix of “gypsy folk, death blues, gothic country and dark roots” from Geneva. The closing cover is from The Patsys, a Columbus, Ohio garage rock band featuring former members of Gaunt, Action Family, and New Bomb Turks.  As I do every week, however, I must again plead with y’all for more versions of “Teenage Kicks”. If you are a musician, or have any contact with artists that could record their own take on the classic, please contact me! Blown sand and desert dunes exhibit a fascinating interplay of physics shaped by wind dynamics, sediment transport, and dune formation processes. In arid landscapes the prevailing wind direction plays a crucial role in sculpting dunes. As wind sweeps across the barren terrain, it lifts and transports sand grains, initiating a process known as saltation. The airborne particles can collide with the surface, causing further erosion. Over time, these interactions lead to the accumulation of sand in the form of dunes. The physics involved in dune formation include factors such as wind speed, grain size, and the angle of the slope, influencing the dune's morphology. Featuring tracks by: The Spartan Dreggs, King Salami & the Cumberland 3, Deadbolt, The Guana Batz, Grande Cobra, New Bomb Turks, and more.  Join me on my Patreon page at patreon.com/radioblivion Blow Yer Radio Up, Baby!! 1995's GLORY DAZE tells the story of Jack Freeman, played by a young Ben Affleck at his most sour and unlikeable, and his four college housemates as they face graduation and make an attempt to prolong their carefree lifestyles before going their separate ways. At one point Affleck's character says “Wanna get a 12er and shred?" and then skateboards around to a New Bomb Turks song, hence why we're covering it. In addition to talking about all the things about this movie that don't work - from its copious use of terrible Warped Tour punk music to its writing, directing and performances - Kevin and Mike keep coming back to a movie they both love, Noah Baumbach's KICKING AND SCREAMING (not to be confused with the Will Ferrell soccer comedy) - a film that came out the same year as GLORY DAZE, is about basically the same thing, and yet manages to be great in every way the GLORY DAZE manages to be terrible. We know you'd rather be bowhunting, but pick up a 12er anyway and listen along as we shred GLORY DAZE to pieces.

Nirvana, the White Stripes, Hole, the Hives—all sprang from an underground music scene where similarly raw bands, enjoying various degrees of success and luck, played for throngs of fans in venues ranging from dive bars to massive festivals, but were mostly ignored by a music industry focused on mega-bands and shiny pop stars. “We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988–2001” tracks the inspiration and beautiful destruction of this largely undocumented movement. What they took, they fought for, every night. They reveled in '50s rock 'n' roll, '60s garage rock, and '70s punk while creating their own wave of gut-busting riffs and rhythm. The majority of bands that populate this book—the Gories, the Supersuckers, the Dwarves, the Mummies, Rocket from the Crypt, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and the Muffs among them—gained little long-term reward from their nonstop touring and brain-slapping records. What they did have was free liquor, cheap drugs, chaotic romances, and a crazy good time, all the while building a dedicated fan base that extends across the world. Truly, this is the last great wave of down-and-dirty rock 'n' roll.In this expanded edition, Eric Davidson reveals more about the punk undergut with a new preface, postscript, and even more photos. The Hives are a Swedish rock band that rose to prominence in the early 2000s during the Garage Rock Revival. Eight years into their career, the Hives rose from garage rock stalwarts to one of the trendiest bands of the early 2000s, along with the Strokes and the White Stripes. Mixing arty contrivances such as a strict black-and-white dress code and the guidance of a (possibly imaginary) Svengali named Randy Fitzsimmons with Stooges-inspired rock, the Hives - Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, Vigilante Carlstroem, and Howlin' Pelle Almqvist - formed in 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden, while they were still in their teens. This is what we call a BIG GET here at WDWEM! Our guest this week fronted the influential punk rock band New Bomb Turks (We's favorite band EVER!). But that's just the tip of the iceberg. A well known writer, Davidson also authored the book We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001 which chronicles some of the most influential bands from the era that birthed the Turks, but also gives a snapshot of the other side of punk that wasn't about skateboards & chain wallets. This is a mere snapshot of our conversation though. Ohio, the pandemic, and even the Italian mafia makes an appearance in this conversation. We were honored to have Eric on the show! There was a brief flicker of a moment at the end of the 90s, before the garage rock rival of The Strokes and White Stripes, before the post-post-punk of Interpol and Bloc Party, before Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional took emo to the mainstream, that the American underground punk of the New Bomb Turks and Rocket From The Crypt were going to have their moment. At the same time, across the pond in Scandinavia, it took the shape of The Hellacopters signing to Sub Pop and veterans Turbonegro refining their sound with the 1998 release Apocalypse Dudes. Maybe it was wishful thinking that those who previously embraced AC/DC, Motley Crue and Buckcherry would find common cause with the action rock crowd, one that favored Iggy and Stooges as much as Bob Seger and Lynyrd Skynyrd. While The Hellacopters and Gluecifer traffic'd in their own brand of riffage gymnastics, Turbonegro added an extra layer - social and political commentary via bombastic lyrics and outrageous stage presence. In retrospect, it may have all been too much, like the layer upon layer of guitar tracks that would make Billy Corgan crack a smile. It's confrontational, it's explicit (earmuffs for the kids!) and it's also a lot of fun. Welcome back! In this special program, we expand on our discussion of nullification, looking at it from an historical POV, a Constitutional POV, and in a broader moral sense -- personal nullification. Gardner Goldsmith delves into the history of nullification in the US, the ability of the federal branches to nullify each branch, the ability of states to nullify, and the ability of citizens on juries to nullify. Then he takes it further, looking at why leftists are so afraid of state nullification -- because it can logically lead to personal nullification of the state. That freaks many of them out when it doesn't agree with their policy agendas. That and music from The Golden Palominos "The Animal Speaks" (Lydon on vocals) and The New Bomb Turks ("Grandpa Atomic", "Dented and Spent" and "Girl Can Help It")!!! Spread the word if you can! We reconvene at the Liberty Conspiracy! Thanks for listening and for spreading the word. In this program, we discuss the recent move by the US House and Senate to impose "sanctions" on Iran. These "sanctions" are actually an embargo, which is an act of War. But, of course, there are few who still know this. One of them is Ron Paul... Gardner Goldsmith is another, and he takes the time to look at what Dr. Paul has said about the "sanctions" and to look at how that term is used far too loosely when the "embargo" is correct. He also looks at how other embargoes led to the exchange of fire, specifically, the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
