Key Takeaways Use forward-looking strategies when investing. Successful land deals are structured today based on projected market conditions two to three years ahead. Partner with experienced developers to access opportunities like land entitlement and horizontal development that are typically closed to average investors. Mitigate risk by reverse engineering deals. Secure exit contracts with homebuilders before initiating entitlement and development. Focus on scalable solutions. Land development meets long-term housing demands, especially in high-growth Sunbelt markets. Diversify your real estate portfolio by including high-growth, high-return assets like land development alongside cash-flowing multifamily. Look for investments that multiply capital, not just preserve it. This is especially important during your prime wealth-building years. SHOW NOTES: https://jewishbooks.blogspot.com/2025/07/max-in-land-of-lies.html TRANSCRIPT: https://otter.ai/u/4wQEsnmUalkzvYUesd-o7pDjudQ?utm_source=copy_url Last July, Adam Gidwitz was on the podcast talking about his middle grade Holocaust historical fantasy novel, Max in the House of Spies, and he told us it was part of a duology. Well, now the second book is out, and I think it's even more powerful than the first one. Max in the Land of Lies continues Max's page-turning, hair raising adventures... AND continues the profound exploration of prejudice that we found in Book 1. Adam offers the best explanation I've ever encountered for how the Holocaust could happen. The parallels with today's world are frightening, AND illuminating. To put it simply, this is a book that I think *everyone* needs to read right now. Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts
Seventy percent of the world's internet traffic goes through Ashburn, Virginia. That fact has led to the growth of over five hundred data centers in Northern Virginia. Today, we sat down with one of those companies to examine its data centers and its relationship with the federal government. John Reynolds is the Director of QTS Federal. He has decades of experience in federal technology and provides the listener with an overview of QTS's origins, its values, and recent growth. He views the data center business as a real estate endeavor. Land is acquired, a facility is constructed, and it has occupants. A company like Amazon Web Services have their dedicated data centers; QTS can house several different customers. We do not know the specific names; we can assume they are as large as Facebook and encompass federal agencies of all types. Facebook may require one set of standards when it comes to security, and the NIST provides guidelines for federal data protection, which QTS includes as part of its compliance. The company participates in the community and understands the impact of energy requirements and cooling for local communities. John Reynolds highlights the importance of resilience with multi-layered power redundancy and advanced energy contracts. QTS is also expanding into Europe and exploring alternative power sources due to grid limitations.
Sean “Diddy” Combs faces significant difficulty overcoming the Mann Act charges due to the sheer volume and consistency of evidence presented at trial showing he orchestrated interstate travel for the purpose of prostitution. Witness after witness testified that Combs regularly flew in male escorts—referred to in court as dancers or “entertainers”—to participate in so-called “freak-offs,” often involving his partners Cassie Ventura and “Jane.” Multiple former employees confirmed that they were tasked with arranging these flights, booking hotels, and managing logistics, all under Combs's direct instruction. One dancer testified that he was flown in on 8 to 12 separate occasions to have sex with Cassie, and that Combs would often watch or record the encounters. These admissions, paired with digital evidence such as text messages and payment records, established a clear pattern of interstate travel tied to commercial sex acts—meeting the statutory criteria for Mann Act violations. What makes the Mann Act charges particularly dangerous for Combs is that they do not require proof of coercion—only that someone was transported across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. The prosecution's evidence showed that Combs not only arranged these movements but paid for them and facilitated the sexual encounters once travel was complete. Unlike the more nuanced sex trafficking charges, which hinge on consent and coercion, the Mann Act offenses are legally simpler and were supported by hard logistics—flight itineraries, financial transactions, and testimony from both staff and participants. Even if the jury wavers on whether Combs's partners were coerced, they may still find him guilty under the Mann Act based solely on the undeniable fact that he used his resources to transport people for sex. As a result, these may be the hardest charges for the defense to defeat—and they carry serious prison time even without convictions on the other counts.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Experts say where Sean 'Diddy' Combs 'might be cooked' in sex trafficking trial | Fox NewsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

Is this the start of a monster finish for Larry Johnson? Let's dig in. Tuesday, July 1, 2025 Subscribe to the Podcast
The Himalaya are the highest and greatest mountain range on earth, and their importance to Asian culture and history cannot be overstated. 1.6 billion people rely on fresh water that drains from the Himalaya and the Tibetan Plateau. In this episode, we focus on Ladakh, the northernmost territory in India, the "Land of High Passes" where the most prominent passes over the Himalaya could be found, passes that brought Buddhism to Tibet, Islam to India, and culture to all parts of Asia. Leading a caravan over the passes was not for the faint of heart - or the faint of oxygen. Since Ladakh is next door to Kashmir, we will talk about one of my favorite Kashmiri dishes: Rogan Josh! For centuries, Indigenous people around the world have been fighting to reclaim lost land. In most instances, the term Indigenous is used to refer to the people who lived somewhere before colonisers and settlers from a different place arrived. In North America, nearly 99% of Indigenous land has been seized since European colonisers arrived. These days, an online movement using the hashtag #LandBack is supporting Indigenous people who want to take back their ancestral land. BBC journalist Vanessa Igoe explains what the movement is and talks us through the arguments for and against it. Marika Sila, an Indigenous Inuit in Canada, explains what the landback movement means to her. Ailsa Roy, a Wunna Nyiyaparli woman, tells us about the challenges they've faced trying to reclaim ancestral lands in Western Australia. And Vanessa Racehorse, a Law professor in the US, looks at the impact on the environment when indigenous people reclaim their land. Words are a powerful force and can profoundly affect individuals lives for the good or for the worse. The words that are most remembered are from those spoken at the end of their lives. Last words, by their very nature, carry a sense of finality. They are the last message a person imparts to the world, often containing reflections on their life, regrets, hopes, or warnings. Because they are spoken at a critical juncture, these words are often perceived as more significant and meaningful than pronouncements made during everyday life. The words of the dying are more remembered than the living because of their inherent finality. They are the final stamp of what their life was like on earth and of whom they served faithfully until the end. I have been often carried throughout life borne about by words of those saints that gave me strength and stamina, comfort and hope by those who lived hundreds and even thousands of years ago. Your own words will also echo from eternity in the lives you've spoken to while you lived in the earth. They will make all the difference in their rough journeys Home to heaven land."By them we, being dead still speak, and we speak in subtle forces which aid or hinder other pilgrims who are fighting their way to God and heaven." - J. H. Jowett

No rendirse: seguir adelante, aunque haya dificultades. No rendirse – seguir intentándolo. Journeying through large swaths of the Jewish world of the 18th century, Rav Chaim Yosef David Azulai (1724-1806), known by his acronym the Chida, was privy to the broad range of the various Jewish communities across Europe and North Africa, as well as observing the happenings within each community as an objective observer. He recorded his impressions of his travels, which remains an invaluable historical document, produced by one of the greatest Torah scholars in recent centuries. As a world class Torah scholar who served as a fundraiser on behalf of the Sephardic Old Yishuv of the Land of Israel, the Chida spent the majority of his life on the road, eventually settling in Livorno, Italy, where he served as rabbi until his passing. His literary output was immense, with his many seforim remaining popular until this very day. In the wake of the twelve-day conflict with Iran, the balance of power in the Middle East is shifting in real time. The Israel summit in Texas was abruptly canceled. U.S. forces struck deep into Iran's nuclear infrastructure. And new reports reveal Mossad's covert reach with hundreds of Israeli operatives embedded inside Iran. Add to that the sudden disappearance of Ayatollah Khamenei and whispers of internal collapse in Tehran, and it's clear: this story is far from over. But the battle isn't just military. On the political front, Trump's explosive statement calling for Netanyahu's trial to be dropped is sending shock-waves through both American and Israel. In this episode, we dive deep into the strategic, political, and spiritual tremors shaking the region. We break down what's unfolding—and what might come next.

The hidden world of agricultural land management takes center stage as Morgan Ulmer, a seasoned land manager with Pifer's, pulls back the curtain on what happens after the seeds go into the ground. Racing from field to field across the entire Red River Valley, Morgan reveals how professional land managers become the eyes and ears for property owners who may live hundreds or thousands of miles from their agricultural investments.Morgan walks us through the meticulous process of field inspection—checking everything from water issues and weed pressure to crop health and projected yields. These detailed assessments, complete with extensive photography and documentation, ultimately form the backbone of comprehensive reports that keep landowners connected to their investments. "We have boots on the ground," Morgan explains, highlighting how land managers provide crucial peace of mind for distant property owners including trusts, family inheritances split between siblings, and investment groups. The conversation takes a sobering turn as Morgan describes the aftermath of recent catastrophic straight-line winds that devastated farms across portions of North Dakota. Machine sheds destroyed, grain bins toppled, and power poles snapped "like matchsticks" serve as stark reminders of agriculture's vulnerability to nature's fury. Yet through it all, Morgan notes the remarkable resilience of the farming community: "They're resilient people... they don't miss a beat" when it comes to cleanup and recovery efforts. The episode offers fascinating glimpses into the technological evolution of land management, from smartphone apps that estimate corn yields by photographing cobs to the game-changing deployment of drones for aerial inspection of difficult terrain. As the Talking Heads once nearly sang: “And may find yourself beamed up into a spacecraft. And you may find yourself pretending to be the leader of Earth. And you may find yourself hanging out with weird and wonderful beings from outer-space, going up against intergalactic warlords and maybe learning a thing or two about belonging along the way.” Yes, it's an Elio special on today's Script Apart, as we venture across the cosmos with the Pixar film's co-directors, Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian. Elio tells the story of a child who longs to be abducted by aliens. Still reeling from the loss of his parents and struggling to adjust to living with his well-meaing aunt, the character embarks on an adventure that changes how he sees life back on Earth. It was written by Julia Cho, Mark Hammer and Mike Jones, from a story by Madeline, Domee and Adrian Molina. Domee you may know as the director of Turning Red, which we covered on this show in 2022. Madeline, meanwhile, is the director behind Burrough, a beautiful Pixar short film from a couple of years ago (this is her first feature). In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, we discuss initial drafts of this story in which Olga was Elio's mother, rather than his aunt. I ask about how the film grapples with loneliness; the process of creating the magical worlds that Pixar movies so often invite filmgoers into, whether that's Monstropolis or Coco's Land of the Dead; and of course, the meaning of that Carl Sagan speech asking “Are we alone?” that close the film.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Every single good deed—and even a good thought—in Avodat Hashem is incredibly precious. When a person sees in the future the immense reward given for even the smallest intention, he will wish he had done more. Sometimes, even one thought of teshuvah can change everything. In this week's parashah, we read about the earth opening up and swallowing all those who joined in Korach's rebellion. Yet the Torah tells us that the sons of Korach did not die. Chazal explain that at the very last second, just before they were swallowed, they had a thought of teshuvah—and that alone saved them. The Midrash emphasizes that they didn't even have enough time to speak a word of repentance. Hashem accepted their teshuvah based solely on a thought. In last week's parashah, we learned that Kalev was promised he would enter the Land and that his children would receive an inheritance there. Rav Moshe Feinstein, in Darash Moshe , asks what Kalev did to earn such a great reward. He answers that when Kalev spoke up against the spies and expressed Emunah that Hashem could bring them into the land, for a brief moment the Jewish people believed him. Although they quickly reverted to fear and doubt, that fleeting moment of emunah was considered a moment of teshuvah. It was so precious that it brought great merit—not just to the people—but to Kalev himself as their source of inspiration. We should never underestimate anything we do in our service of Hashem. It is never "all or nothing." Every small act counts. A man shared that he had been walking with his friend Chaim, when Chaim's phone rang with a reminder that his hour of shemirat halashon was about to begin. The man found it odd—why keep it for only one hour if we are obligated to guard our speech all the time? Chaim explained that of course we try to keep these halachot at all times, but even setting aside one hour of extra vigilance is extremely valuable. It's a way to strengthen ourselves and build up consistency. Every extra moment of self-control is meaningful. Chaim then told a story he knew firsthand. His parents' neighbor, Nitzan, once called him asking for guidance on how to become fully observant. Until then, Nitzan had not kept mitzvot but said that something happened that completely changed his outlook. A few months prior, he had decided to keep a small part of Shabbat—from midnight on Friday night until 10 a.m. Shabbat morning. People laughed at him when they heard this, thinking it strange and inconsistent, but he felt it was a meaningful step he could take. He kept his commitment seriously. On one Friday night, he was out driving with friends and saw that it was 11:30 p.m. He told them firmly that no matter where they were, he would be getting out of the car at 11:50. His friends tried to persuade him to stay with them until around 12:15, but he wouldn't budge. At 11:50, he stepped out of the car and turned off his phone. He was far from home, so he slept on a bench and planned to take a taxi at 10 a.m. when his personal observance of Shabbat would end. When he got home the next morning, his parents were overwhelmed with joy and tears. They had just heard that the car he had been in the night before was in a devastating accident. Everyone in the car had died. They thought he had been with them. He told them that it was his decision to keep even a small part of Shabbat that had saved his life. That moment became a turning point for Nitzan. He decided from then on that he wanted to become fully observant. Every little act in Avodat Hashem matters. Even a moment of restraint, a fleeting thought of teshuvah, or a limited commitment can be the key to transformation—or even salvation. We can never underestimate the power and value of the smallest efforts or intentions. Shabbat Shalom

In this episode of the Thinking Talmudist Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe delves into the Talmudic discussion on Berachot 5A, focusing on Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai's teaching about three divine gifts given to the Jewish people through suffering: the Torah, the Land of Israel, and the World to Come. Rabbi Wolbe explains that these gifts—essential to Jewish spiritual identity—are acquired only through challenges and afflictions. He illustrates this with the historical struggles for the Land of Israel, such as the War of Independence, the Six-Day War, and other conflicts, emphasizing its unique spiritual significance as a land that "expands like a deer's hide" to accommodate its people, yet demands perseverance due to its contested nature. He also discusses the Torah's acquisition through distractions and personal sacrifices, sharing a story about Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, who prioritized Torah study over social events to invest in his spiritual growth. Finally, the World to Come is presented as an eternal reward earned through overcoming this world's challenges, each acting as a "badge of honor." Rabbi Wolbe concludes by previewing the next discussion on "afflictions of love" and invites listeners to engage further. The episode underscores the idea that spiritual rewards require effort and resilience, drawing from both Talmudic sources and contemporary examples. This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by David & Susan MarbinRecorded at TORCH Meyerland in the Levin Family Studios to a live audience on June 20, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 27, 2025_____________The Thinking Talmudist Podcast shares select teachings of Talmud in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way.
