In this powerful episode, Cheryl sits down with Anya, a seasoned mom who made the courageous choice to pull her son out of school during a season of deep grief — and discovered that unschooling was the unexpected key to his healing, growth, and confidence.Anya shares how losing her son's father, navigating the chaos of COVID schooling, and tuning into her child's emotional needs led her to take full ownership of her family's educational path. What followed included incredible personal growth, restored mental health, and the realization that children often learn more outside the system than inside it.Together we explore: • How unschooling helped her son recover emotionally and academically • Why children can easily return to public school without “falling behind” • The impact of grief, trauma, and stress on learning • Why emotional intelligence matters more than worksheets • Homeschool myths that keep parents scared • Real-life skills kids actually need (and how school suppresses them) • The hidden pressures on parents from schools, doctors & society • Why confidence, connection, and slow childhood matter more than curriculumIf you're considering homeschooling, curious about unschooling, or questioning the one-size-fits-all school system, this episode will give you permission to trust yourself — and your child — more deeply.Connect with Anya: www.theangelwearsprana.comInstagramYoutubeFacbook A Connected Christmas Unit Study! The unprecedented third show of new releases this month ends the series not with a whimper but with triumph. These aren't extras or third-rate fillers. The tracks aired tonight proudly stand next to those played in the first two shows. In fact, this episode is not only the longest but most varied of the trio. Part of the reason for the length, though, is the last minute decision to add a set devoted to today's release of the reissue of my third favorite album of all time, Let It Be by The Replacements. This new box includes a disc of outtakes and other rarities, along with a live album recorded in Chicago on August 17, 1984. I also added a couple of songs by a band I saw in Minneapolis last Saturday. Playing with our friends the Daniel James Gang (led by former Indonesia Junk front man Daniel James and accompanied by Geoff Palmer on second guitar) and opener Cheap Glue (oh man, I need them to record ASAP), Smart Shoppers are a performance art/punk band from Green Bay, and Shop Among Us is quite fun. There's also sets devoted to two tribute records this week – Play On: A […]

The Labor Department reported September jobs numbers on Thursday, showing employers added 119,000 jobs to the economy but also an increase in unemployment to 4.4 percent. “The September report shows fairly good job growth, but every other report we have for October shows a slowdown,” says Robert Reich, the former secretary of labor under President Bill Clinton.“Real wages — that is, wages adjusted for inflation — are going down for most people. The bottom 90 percent of Americans are in very bad shape,” says Reich. This week on The Intercept Briefing, host Akela Lacy speaks to the professor, author, and longtime commentator about the economy and the state of Democratic Party politics under Trump. “The only people who are doing well, who are keeping the economy going through their purchases, are the top 10 percent, and they're basically doing well because they're the ones who own most of the shares of stock,” says Reich. “What happens when and if the stock market implodes?”Reich has been beating the drum on poverty and inequality for decades. And while that message took some time to hit the mainstream, it seems to be hitting home now more than ever, but Democratic leadership continues to fall flat in conveying they understand the urgency of the economic hardships ordinary Americans face. The answer, Reich says, is new leadership. He is disappointed in Democrats who caved to Trump on the government shutdown. “It's another example of the Democrats not having enough backbone,” Reich says. “I think Chuck Schumer has to go. And Jeffries too.” He adds, “I'm 79 years old. I have standing to speak about the fact that there is a time to move on. And I think that the Democratic leaders today should move on.”Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing. You can support our work at theintercept.com/join. Jocelyn Pearson. Purpose of the Interview The interview on Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushion McDonald and Jocelyn Pearson aimed to: Share Jocelyn’s journey of graduating debt-free by securing $126,350 in scholarships. Educate families on how to avoid student loan debt through her proven system, The Scholarship System. Dispel myths about scholarships and provide actionable steps for parents and students. Key Takeaways Scholarship System Approach Jocelyn developed a six-step process to simplify scholarship applications and avoid overwhelm. Focus on breaking the process into small, manageable steps rather than a vague “go get money” directive. Common Myths Debunked Too early or too late to apply: Start by junior year; it’s never too late—even college seniors can apply. Only perfect students or low-income families qualify: Many scholarships don’t require high GPA or athletic ability. All good scholarships are gone: Smaller, local scholarships ($500–$5,000) add up over time. It takes too much time: With a system and reusable materials, effort decreases each year. Avoiding Scholarship Scams Beware of “easy,” “enter to win,” or sweepstakes-style scholarships—they often sell personal data. Real scholarships require effort and personalization. Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy
Is it Possible to Have Joy in Lovemaking? Physical intimacy can be one of the most painful topics in a woman's life. Maybe you've felt shame for years. Maybe your husband brings it up constantly, and all you want to do is shrink away. Or maybe, deep down, you wonder if something is just wrong with you. If that's where you are, I want you to know—I've been there. I've felt the fear. I've felt the pressure. I've carried the shame. And I want to walk with you through what I've learned on the other side: There is healing. There is hope. And yes, there is joy. The Pain Is Real—But So Is God's Compassion You may have asked yourself: Why did God make me this way? Why don't I want they way my husband does? Why does sex feel more like pressure than connection? God doesn't ignore your questions. He weeps with you. Just like Jesus wept for Mary and Martha, knowing full well He was about to raise Lazarus—He still entered into their grief. He enters yours too. And even if this has felt like a battleground, it doesn't have to stay that way. Healing Begins with Safety—Not Pressure Before you even think about "fixing" your physical intimacy, your heart needs a safe place to land. And for many women, that starts with unlearning the belief that you have to earn love—God's or anyone else's. You don't. God's love isn't tied to your performance, your body, your ability to "show up" intimately, or how productive you are in your day. He loves you because He made you. That's it. That's all. Your worth was settled at the cross—not in your bedroom, your to-do list, or your motherhood. When you live from that place of being already loved, you finally have space to breathe and truly begin to heal. Slowing Down Is a Spiritual Discipline One of the most overlooked steps in reclaiming intimacy is rest. Real, soul-deep rest. When your calendar is overstuffed, your stress is high, and your self-worth is tangled in busyness—you don't have the capacity for joy. You don't have the margin for laughter or connection. That's why Sabbath isn't optional. It's sacred. God designed you to stop. To remember that you are not the one holding the world together. He is. So yes—cancel some things. Say no. Choose to be "Mary," sitting at Jesus' feet, choosing the better thing. Intimacy Flourishes Where Joy Lives When life slows down and you begin to enjoy God, enjoy your family, and even laugh at yourself—you begin to unlock joy in intimacy, too. Yes, that's right! Because fun, play, and freedom matter. Physical intimacy was never meant to be a chore, a duty, or a place of dread. It's meant to be a gift. Something sacred and fun. And when your heart is in a place of peace, you stop obsessing about perfection and instead, you show up with your whole self—free to connect, to try, to be present, to even laugh when something awkward happens. That's when intimacy becomes what it was meant to be: a beautiful, joy-filled expression of love. Small Steps Towards Healing Friend, if you're carrying shame, exhaustion, or resentment around sex—it's okay to start small. You don't have to force yourself into healing overnight. Start with this: Make space to be with God, not just do things for Him. Release the belief that you have to earn His love. Say no to busy so you can say yes to rest. Look for moments of laughter and joy—and embrace them. Show up to intimacy with the goal of connection, not perfection. Your healing doesn't begin in your bedroom. It begins in your soul. And as God gently rewrites your story, intimacy will follow. Final Thoughts: You Are Loved. You Are Enough. God doesn't want you stuck in shame. He doesn't want your marriage defined by dread or even silence. He wants you whole. He wants you free. He wants you to enjoy Him—and yes, enjoy your marriage. You don't have to strive anymore. You are loved because He says you are. You are enough because He made you. And intimacy, like joy, can grow again. One day, you'll look back and say, "I never thought it could be like this… but God healed me." I believe that day is coming. You are in our prayers, dear reader and dear listener. God bless you! PPPS - Here is a quote from a recent graduate: "When I came into the DYM program, I was spent emotionally, and it was difficult to carry on with my daily tasks. Even as a devoted Christian, my pain was overshadowing the joy that I have in the Lord because I was so focused on the problems. Immediately, the preparatory work of applying the DYM recipe required some major changes in my behavior. The Lord began to minister to me as I applied myself to the modules, homework, accountability calls and coaching calls. I began to experience hope, not because my circumstances were changing, but because I was allowing the Lord to change me!"

Target Market Insights: Multifamily Real Estate Marketing Tips
In this week's solo episode, John Casmon steps away from guest interviews to break down one of the most misunderstood topics in multifamily investing: underwriting. After speaking at the Big Deal Summit in Columbus, John shares the real-world framework he uses to analyze deals—not just in spreadsheets, but in practice. From setting clear investment criteria to identifying operational inefficiencies, John walks through how successful investors combine vision, market insight, and execution to drive lasting results. Make sure to download our free guide, 7 Questions Every Passive Investor Should Ask, here. Key Takeaways Underwriting isn't about the spreadsheet—it's about the vision, people, and execution Always define your buy box and end goals before analyzing numbers Focus on markets with both macro strength and micro-level renter desirability Investors don't pay premiums for plumbing or electric—focus on visible value Operational inefficiencies are gold if you know how to identify and fix them Don't assume you can operate better than a seasoned owner without proof Stress test your assumptions: What happens if the plan breaks? Topics The Real Goal of Underwriting Spreadsheets don't reflect operations—real estate is about people, not numbers Get clarity on what kind of asset and community you're trying to build Defining Your Buy Box Understand your own criteria before chasing ROI or IRR Why Cincinnati and surrounding markets meet John's standards for long-term growth Macro and Micro Market Selection How renter desirability shapes submarket selection Population growth ≠ renter demand—context matters Value-Add the Right Way Tenants won't pay more for new pipes—focus on kitchens, lighting, appliances Target properties with updated mechanicals so your upgrades actually add value Operational Inefficiencies to Look For Low occupancy, slow turn times, bloated expenses, and misaligned staffing Why seasoned operators aren't always "mismanaging"—stay humble Creating vs. Assuming Value Ask questions before opening a spreadsheet—what is the business plan? Don't guess your way through the numbers; know what levers create value Stress Testing the Deal Underwrite break-even points and failure scenarios Real story: How one business plan unraveled when resident profiles clashed Final Thoughts on Strategy Vision before budget—start with what you want to create IRR matters, but timing and exit assumptions often fail Know your buyer—plan your renovations around future investor demand

Role of Parents Parents should help with planning and identifying legitimate scholarships but not complete applications for students. Committees can detect when parents write essays. AI in Scholarship Applications Jocelyn warns against copy-pasting AI-generated essays. Her platform introduced TESS, an AI assistant for ethical guidance and support. Financial Aid Basics Submit FAFSA even if you think you won’t qualify; some colleges and states require it. Combine all sources—government aid, institutional aid, and private scholarships. For Current College Students Check with financial aid offices, academic departments, and organizations for scholarships available after freshman year. Entrepreneurial Journey Jocelyn turned her passion into a business by starting with a book, building an email list, and launching webinars. She emphasizes persistence and ignoring naysayers. Notable Quotes “I had to accumulate my way to getting college paid for—the mere mortals’ way to going to college without tons of debt.” “Most families want scholarships, but they get stuck in the overwhelm.” “There’s no big red easy button—but with clear steps, it feels less daunting.” “We’re saying no to the broken system… It takes, on average, 21 years to pay off student loans.” “With great power comes great responsibility—AI can help, but only if used ethically.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSteve Harvey Morning Show Online: http://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Street smarts is the REAL currency—the raw, gut-level intelligence that turns weak negotiators into deal-closers, and average salespeople into legends. This isn't theory. This is survival-level dominance—the kind that reads a room in 3 seconds, flips objections into yeses, and makes people beg to buy from you. Without it? You're getting eaten alive. With it? You can increase your income, your influence, your LIFE. Street smarts defined: It's your social IQ —reading people like a book, adapting in chaos, and making split-second moves that win. It's not EQ. It's not book smarts. It's real-world radar: spotting lies, building trust fast, knowing when to push, when to walk. It's the hidden code that separates the 1% who crush from the 99% who get crushed. maximizeyourinfluence.com

What brings you peace? Not temporary escape. Not the approval of others. Real internal calm. We continue the conversation around worth and validation, and we look at how peace shows up when you begin trusting yourself to navigate life from a calmer headspace.I talk about why so many of us feel more familiar with chaos than with peace, and how uncomfortable it can be to experience calm when it finally arrives. You might even feel guilty for wanting peace because it seems foreign. But this is part of the work. The inside/out process involves sitting with your thoughts, allowing uncomfortable feelings to exist, and untangling long held patterns that keep you in survival mode.I also share thoughts on therapy and why developing a productive working relationship with a therapist can be life changing. It is not just signing up for therapy, it is learning to open up, recognize blind spots, and work together on navigating thoughts, habits and emotions. The goal is not to remove all challenges. The goal is to trust yourself more while facing them. Some things in life will never make sense. Some circumstances will not have a satisfying explanation. Peace is not having answers to everything. Peace is knowing you can handle life even when things are unresolved. It is feeling like you belong in your own body and in your own mind. That takes consistent practice, grace and a willingness to continue the conversation with yourself. If this message connects with you, I would love to hear your thoughts. 2025 has not gone according to plan.Real estate has been bandied about by headwinds of economic, policy and fundamental changes. Interest rate reductions and rising deal flow has the industry feeling better, but stability is a pipe dream these days, especially when federal data is missing and CRE research can conflict. But forget about the data, economist Peter Linneman said on this week's show — how is it really going in your apartments or your office building? He said CRE has gotten hooked on data analysis and has forgotten that what really matters are the fundamentals on the ground. And while he agrees that uncertainty is the new normal, and that's trouble for CRE, “people adjust.”He foresees a meaningful return to transactions in 2026.“There are people out there with courage, but they don't have capital. And there are others out there whose short investment horizons have made them understandably and correctly not courageous,” he said.“But when everybody else starts jumping, it'll be like the wildebeests crossing the river. They all jump in.”
Topics covered : Unpacking 'calm' parenting, navigating meltdowns (for adults and kids), the power of play in building connection with kids, dropping the threats, slapping, resilience building, unlearning, rupture and repair, positive modelling. This week, I'm speaking with child and adolescent psychotherapist Debbie Cullinane.Debbie lives in Mayo with her husband James and their two children, Elsie (10.5) and Freddie (9.5). She joined me on the podcast back in March 2024, and that episode resonated deeply — for me personally, and for so many listeners. If you haven't heard it yet, I highly recommend giving it a listen. In today's conversation, Debbie shares practical, compassionate guidance on becoming as regulated as we can as parents; what our children truly need to thrive (it may surprise you); how to navigate stressful moments with more ease; the power of play in building connection; and why unlearning certain old habits is such vital work.Debbie, along with fellow psychotherapist Hayley Rice, created the F.I.R.M.™(Firm, Intentional, Regulated, Modelling) Parenting Approach — a therapist-designed, research-driven framework that supports parents in raising emotionally healthy, resilient kids. You can join their parenting hub - you'll find more information on both of their Instagram pages. If you're a fan of what I do, please follow, rate and review the podcast in all the usual places. And thank you, as always, for supporting Ready to be Real. What if you could help someone completely transform their career in just 45 minutes, not by training them to be someone they're not, but by revealing who they've always been? In this episode, Steve Woodruff, author of "Clarity Wins" and "The Point," shares his unexpected journey from Vanderbilt astronomy student dreaming of becoming an astronaut to becoming the "King of Clarity" who's spent 20 years helping professionals discover and communicate their true identity. Through a pivotal relationship with a manager-friend who made one simple observation ("Let Steve run with sales and Rob run with service because that's what you're good at"), Steve discovered that fitting people into their strengths, not training them to overcome weaknesses, is the ultimate key to success. From consulting with pharmaceutical giants like Pfizer, Novartis, and GSK to leading 100 emerging leaders globally during the pandemic to transforming his own pastor's preaching, Steve has developed the Clarity Fuel Formula, a brain science-backed framework that helps anyone cut through noise and connect powerfully. His philosophy is simple but revolutionary: "You can't read the label of the jar you're in." We need someone on the outside to reveal who we really are. Steve reveals how he helps people experience that jaw-dropping moment when someone finally sees them (and they see themselves), why the first 15 seconds of any interaction matter most, how "memory darts" beat elevator pitches every time, and why his biggest professional thrill is attaching the right words to someone's identity and watching their entire career trajectory transform. [00:03:59] The Journey: From Aspiring Astronaut to King of Clarity Childhood dream: becoming an astronaut Started at Vanderbilt University studying astronomy Hit a wall with calculus and physics, realized he loved words more than numbers Shifted to psychology, fascinated by how the human mind and communication work Moved into business sales and marketing [00:07:39] What Steve Does: Revealing Who People Really Are Works with corporations (pharma/biotech primarily) on communication training Developed the Clarity Fuel Formula: framework for clear communication in every format Real passion: entrepreneurs, solos, small businesses, and individuals Specializes in helping people discover their identity, purpose, and how to articulate it [00:09:23] Most Impactful Result: The Infrastructure Builder Met Jason, a sales training manager at pharma company, for networking lunch Through conversation, Steve identified Jason's core strength: infrastructure building Gave Jason the exact words to describe his superpower Jason found perfect role at training organization in disarray [00:12:00] Pandemic Pivot: Training 100 Leaders Globally via Zoom Companies forced to move training online during COVID Steve led personal branding workshop for 100 emerging leaders globally All done from his desk via Zoom, no travel for days required [00:14:38] What Inspires Steve: The Jaw-Drop Moment Most people (including himself for years) are only half-aware of who they really are People are guessing, trying different things without true north Has unique ability to ask questions and see themes emerge quickly The magic moment: 45-60 minutes in, holds up "figurative mirror" [00:17:04] The Relationship That Changed Everything During first 10-year career job, Steve and colleague split country for sales/service One person better at sales, other better at service, but both trying to do both This insight plus reading StrengthsFinder completely revolutionized Steve's view of work [00:21:41] Recent Impact: Transforming His Pastor's Preaching Steve's work applies 100% to church settings, not just business Pastor came to dinner, Steve discussed "memory darts" concept Memory darts: short, vivid ideas using analogies, illustrations, or stories instead of elevator pitches Pastor wanted to improve preaching and asked Steve for help [00:23:58] Where to Find Steve & His Resources Company: Clarity Fuel (clarityfuel.com redirects to stevewoodruff.com) Most active on LinkedIn with newsletter and regular posts about clarity Two books: "Clarity Wins" (branding, niches, pigeonholes) and "The Point" (universal framework for clear communication) The challenge: "The Point" is for 8 billion people, anyone, any role, any place, anytime [00:26:40] The First 15 Seconds: Why They Matter Most Success boils down to the first 15 seconds of any interaction Must earn attention with something interesting, relevant, and compelling Get rid of the elevator pitch (telling and selling) Learn to answer "What do you do?" in 15 seconds that makes people say "Huh? Tell me more" Biggest problem: TMI (Too Much Information) KEY QUOTES "You can't read the label of the jar you're in. We are not able to be objective about ourselves. We need someone on the outside who can look at us and say, this is really who you are." - Steve Woodruff "I'm not here to train people to become what they're not. I'm here to reveal to them who they are. When you try to train people to be what they're not, you're setting yourself and them up for a world of hurt." - Steve Woodruff "We have stewardship over our lives. We have one life. If we're wasting it, even with good intentions doing the wrong thing, that's a terrible shame." - Steve Woodruff "People don't need information. They need to know why they should care." - Steve Woodruff "Nobody wants to hear your monologue. They want to hear something that makes them say, 'What in the world are you talking about? Tell me about it.' And we're off and running." - Steve Woodruff CONNECT WITH STEVE WOODRUFF
In this episode two lifelong college friends reunite decades later—this time as moms watching their own kids pack up, move out, and step into the world. This episode is a heartfelt, honest conversation about navigating the “lasts” no one prepares you for: the final high-school game, the final family dinner before move-in day, the last night your child sleeps under your roof as a kid. With humor, vulnerability, and the kind of shorthand only old friends share, they explore the strange new quiet of their homes, the shifting rhythms of family life, and the bittersweet pride of seeing your child become who they're meant to be. Along the way, they revisit their own college memories, reflect on how parenthood has changed them, and tackle the messy mix of sadness, joy, nostalgia, and hope that comes with this next chapter.Real stories. Real feelings. And two moms trying to figure out how to let go—together.

Ever wonder why some coaches seem to effortlessly attract high-paying clients while others struggle despite having amazing programs? After 22+ years in the coaching industry, I'm revealing the uncomfortable truth: it's not about how good your program is—it's about TRUST. In this game-changing episode, I'm breaking down the exact trust-building system that transformed my business from struggling to consistently signing clients at every level of my value ladder. This isn't another surface-level marketing strategy; this is the deep psychological framework that actually moves people from skeptics to paying clients. I dive into the three critical mistakes that are silently destroying your credibility before prospects even consider working with you. You'll discover why having the best coaching program means nothing if you're missing this one crucial element, and how the industry's reputation is working against you (even if you've done nothing wrong). Key takeaways from this episode: • The Trust Equation: How to perfectly balance emotion and logic to create an irresistible pull toward your programs • Why giving TOO MUCH value is actually repelling your ideal clients (this one might sting) • The "One Problem, One Solution" framework that simplifies your marketing and multiplies your conversions • My proven value ladder strategy that takes people from $5 buyers to high-ticket VIP clients • The Deepest Desire technique for making prospects feel truly understood (not manipulated) • Real examples from my own business showing exactly how I implement these strategies I also share the exact progression I use—from my $5 Instagram Ads course to my Wealthy Coach Academy ($197/month) to my VIP one-on-one program—and how each level builds trust for the next. This episode is perfect for coaches, course creators, and service providers who know they have something valuable to offer but can't seem to break through the noise. Whether you're just starting out or you're already making six figures and ready to scale, these trust-building principles will revolutionize how you attract and convert clients. Fair warning: I'm not holding back in this episode. I'm sharing the exact strategies that took me years to perfect, including some uncomfortable truths about why most coaching businesses fail to scale beyond a certain point. If you're ready to stop competing on price and start commanding premium rates for your expertise, this episode will show you exactly how to position yourself as the obvious choice in your market.

On this Week's Keepin It Real, Cam is tired of people not from Alabama degrading and belittling our state. But in this certain case, Cam says, we might deserve it. ----- Go find a podcast called The Alabama Murders. It's a seven-episode series by author Malcolm Gladwell done under his Revisionist History podcast. I love Revisionist History – it's been one of my favorite podcasts for a long time but, well, The Alabama Murders is yet another example of someone who is not from here looking at Alabama with shame and disgust. Our state has been the target of this for a long long time. Gladwell goes out of his way a few times in the podcast to say something along the lines of "what you think people would do in this case is this. However, this is Alabama." It's a clear shot at our state. A slap. Degrading and belittling. However, I want you to find The Alabama Murders podcast because, candidly, we deserve it this time. Two men were executed for killing a woman who they did not kill. The jury of their peers wanted them jailed for the harm they did but the judge, who also knew they didn't kill her, changed their sentence to the death penalty in a move called judicial override. If Gladwell's telling of the story is true, after every state in the union had eliminated judicial override, Alabama kept it for a long while. After every state in the union reverted every guilty party's judgment to what was given to them by the jury of their peers, Alabama refused to change any sentences, grandfathering in the judicial override sentencing which led to the execution of the two men who did not kill their victim. Her husband did. Go find The Alabama Murders and hear the story for yourself. The most gruesome part of the story is not the murder of the lady, but our state's repeated failed attempts to execute the prisoners. It was, unquestionably, cruel and unusual punishment performed by men who then took to the media to boast about creating new precedents that states across the nation should adopt. Granted, the podcast included some dramatization. Long silences to let words linger, music that drove home the cruelty inflicted in each execution and attempted execution. And silences where we can only assume the person being interviewed was quietly crying. But folks, there is no question there should be egg all over our face based on what happened. I'm as sick as the next person of Alabama being looked down upon. And as much as I admire and like Gladwell, I've read all his books, I wish he'd sniff around his own backyard to find stories of justice gone wrong. Leave us alone. There are many many good people here but Gladwell seems to want us to think otherwise. However, you do need to hear this podcast. You need to hear all that happened and who facilitated it and who knew about the cruelty in the executions and did nothing and who knew about the true murderer and sentenced these men to death instead. Find The Alabama Murders in your podcasts. It'll make you flinch. It'll make you want to turn away. Don't. Listen to it. And help me hold our state and our elected officials to a higher standard. I'm Cam Marston just trying to Keep it Real.
