AI adoption is still slow in talent acquisition. Employers are experimenting with AI for tactical tasks while missing its transformative potential. This gap between tentative experimentation and strategic implementation stems from multiple challenges, including ethical concerns, a lack of training and awareness, overblown vendor claims, and anxiety about what AI means for job security. So, how can talent leaders shift from automation anxiety to augmentation advantage, transforming their teams from tactical processors to talent advisors? My guest this week is Matt Burney, Senior Strategic Advisor at Indeed. Matt has deep expertise in recruitment technology and workforce trends and explains how AI can elevate recruiters' roles rather than diminishing or eliminating them. In the interview, we discuss: The current state of AI in recruiting Why organizations remain trapped in tactical AI implementations Understanding the root causes of automation anxiety Asking better questions, not just getting faster answers Automation versus Augmentation Why efficiency needs to be about proving value, not replacing people The role of AI in skills-based thinking Why training, education, and greater awareness are vital What does the future of work look like? Dr. Sandie Morgan looks back at Episode 28 "Stop Blaming the Victim" with, Dave Stachowiak and Amelia Frank Meyer. The three discuss the prevalence of victim blaming against commercially sexually exploited children, how it affects the children, and how to help them. Dr. Amelia Franck Meyer When we first interviewed Dr. Amelia Franck Meyer, she was the CEO of Anu Family Services, a child welfare agency located in 90 different counties in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Now, Amelia Franck Meyer serves as Anu's Senior Strategic Advisor and is the founder and CEO of Alia. Alia provides innovations for people and systems impacted by childhood trauma and is a strategic partner of Anu Family Services. Amelia is leading a movement to create a child welfare system where both caregivers and children can thrive. She has worked throughout the United States and internationally, promoting her ideas to change the way children welfare systems work. Amelia Franck Meyer also brought together professionals at the University of Minnesota, where she received her master's degree in social work, to create Youth Connections Scale and Wellbeing Indicator Tool for Youth, two tools largely used in the child welfare sphere. Key Points Terms like "teen prostitute" and "child prostitute" are incorrect and dangerous as they suggest youth were voluntarily involved. Blaming victims instead of seeing them as children who are in need of protection adds to the harm these youth have already experienced. A lot of the youth being found in these circumstances are children who were already in the Foster care system. Because these children felt that they had no protection in the system, from the lack of adult connection, they took it upon themselves to find protection. When commercially sexually exploited youth are found, they have already had their innocence taken from them, however, they also lost the time they should have had doing things with their families and friends. The bonus is that you will also get to hear Dave again throughout this interview. Okay now, let's get to the episode. Here's me introducing our guest. Let me introduce Amelia Franck Meyer, she has been the CEO of Anu Family Services since 2001. That's a child welfare agency located in Wisconsin and Minnesota. For those of you who listened to the last podcast, we were talking about not calling these kids terms that put them into juvenile delinquency, but finding the opportunities and making opportunities by giving them designations that place them squarely in a child welfare context. That's exactly what Amelia does. She is an advanced practice social worker, a licensed independent social worker, she has a master's degree in social work from University of Minnesota and a master's degree in sociology from Illinois and a graduate certificate from the University of Minnesota.

TIRED OF THE FIGHTING OF THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM? The group who started the No Labels Party sure are. They are thinking of running a unity ticket this year if Biden and Trump are our choices, so you should pay attention to what they are proposing. I should say not ALL of it is bad, as their ideas on balancing the budget, immigration and energy are good, but too much of it seems to be dedicated to helping people deal with a bloated government rather than trying to make a leaner government. I'd prefer the second option. Read more about No Labels here.

Energy and Mines Digital Trust (EMDT) was established by the Government of British Columbia (B.C.) to incentivize the formation of a digital trust ecosystem that will result in accuracies and efficiencies when sharing sustainability data, with downstream impacts of contributing towards a low-carbon economy. Reporting environmental impact data can be a complicated and laborious process. Data is difficult to exchange internationally, and consumers cannot always access, or trust, reported data. A digital trust ecosystem builds confidence between organizations, businesses, and individuals when interacting online. When information is shared using digital credentials, everyone can trust that the information is current and hasn't been tampered with, even without pre-existing business relationships. For natural resource companies, this means it is possible to easily share trustworthy data to prove their sustainability efforts. In this podcast episode with Nancy Norris and Kyle Robinson, we discuss: What's happening in climate change legislation globally? What are the sustainability reporting requirements that the mining industry faces today? Where do digital trust and digital identity fit into sustainability reporting? How do you start a digital trust ecosystem? How do you select initial use cases to focus on? What is the role of the government in growing a digital trust ecosystem based on policy? How did EMDT build their digital trust governance frameworks? Why did EMDT publish their governance frameworks to open source repositories? The best ways to educate both technical and non-technical stakeholders about digital credentials and digital trust. Can digital trust technologies alter/influence change in regulatory reporting processes? Can governments who participate in digital trust ecosystems find new ways of creating value/new business models/enhancing standard service offerings? In this episode, Ferd Hoefner outlines the role of sustainable agriculture in each farm bill from the early 1970s to the present, and talks about policy that was enacted—and advocated for—in between farm bill years. He tells Ron about his start in Washington (an unusual first day of work), a “commandeered” report, the beginning of the organization now known as the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC), and more. Yes, this is an extended listen, and sometimes gets wonky, but you want to tune in. Ferd is the Founding Policy Director at NSAC, and has been a leader in the sustainable agriculture community for over 30 years. He led NSAC's federal policy work as Policy Director from 1988 through 2016 and served as Senior Strategic Advisor from 2017 to 2020. He continues to mentor and advise the coalition in a consulting role. NSAC is a leading voice for sustainable agriculture in the federal policy arena, joining together the interests of over 100 grassroots farm, food, conservation, and rural member organizations to advocate for federal policies supporting the long-term economic and environmental sustainability of agriculture, natural resources, and rural communities. Among the many federal programs that NSAC has successfully developed and championed are Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, Wetlands Reserve Program, Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program, Beginning Farmer Down Payment Loan Program, Conservation Stewardship Program, Farm to School Grants, Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program, Whole Farm Revenue Protection, National Organic Certification Cost-Share Program, and Value-Added Producer Grants, among others. Prior to NSAC, Hoefner for nearly a decade represented Interfaith Action for Economic Justice and its predecessor, the Interreligious Taskforce on U.S. Food Policy, on federal policy on farm, food, and international development issues. He has also served as a policy consultant to numerous faith-based organizations and NGOs. He did his undergraduate studies at Oberlin College and graduate work at Wesley Theological Seminary. Momentum continues to build in our efforts to gear economies towards shared quality of life, rather than sheer quantity of stuff. With COP 26 starting in Glasgow next week, I reached out to Dr Katherine Trebeck for a sense of how it feels on the ground there, along with how the event might leverage more of that broader momentum. That's our take-off point for looking at some of the significant shifts happening around the world in this space. And we're joined again by Mike Salvaris, with a major update on the West Australian Development Index that featured in his Ministerial presentation in episode 55. Dr Katherine Trebeck is a Senior Strategic Advisor for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (or WEAll) – a global collaboration she co-founded in 2018, the same year she co-founded WEAll Scotland. She has also instigated the group of Wellbeing Economy Governments, previously developed Oxfam's Humankind Index, and led Oxfam's work downscaling Kate Raworth's ‘doughnut economics' for various countries. Katherine's book The Economics of Arrival: Ideas for a Grown-Up Economy (co-authored with Jeremy Williams) was published in early 2019. The last time we spoke on this podcast was at one of the Australian events launching that book. And one of our guests that night was Mike Salvaris, a global leader in the development of wellbeing measures, and Director of the Australian National Development Index. So what's happened in the two years since that event in the development of ‘wellbeing economies', and this prospective pilot Development Index in WA? This conversation was recorded online at the Derby Media Aboriginal Corporation on Nyikina Country in the West Kimberley, with Katherine at home in Glasgow and Mike in Melbourne, 12 October 2021. How does a society know when enough is enough and it is time to stop growing, developing, consuming? How does a society know when it has ‘arrived’ and doesn’t need to keep striving for more? How does a society know when it hasn’t yet 'arrived' and where further material growth is still, on balance, a good idea? What are the ceiling limits to look out for? Well, who better to come to my rescue on this philosophical quagmire of a question than Dr. Katherine Trebeck, co-Author of "The Economics of Arrival: Ideas for a Grown-Up Economy." In addition to being a star class writer, Katherine is Senior Strategic Advisor for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (https://wellbeingeconomy.org/) – a global collaboration she co-founded in 2018, the same year she co-founded WEAll Scotland. Before then, she had a prodigious history with Oxfam. She is also one of those people who have given a talk for TedX and amassed over 65 000 views (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt9NKulHTDE). Impressed yet? However, as I live a very sheltered and insular life, I first came across Katherine Trebeck when I stumbled upon the Melbourne book launch of 'Economics of Arrival' (https://policy.bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/the-economics-of-arrival) (which she co-wrote with the equally impressive Jeremy Williams (https://bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/jeremy-williams)) almost by accident. I was meeting up for drinks with fellow post-growth activists who talked me into coming along to the book launch. I was immediately blown away by Katherine's speech at the event and bought the book on the spot. I don't know HOW Katherine and Jeremy did it, but they achieved the almost impossible: they wrote a full-length book about economics and made it an incredibly interesting and absorbing read. I normally read ‘topical’ books only when necessary for my work, but I remember in October 2019 flipping through the pages eagerly on the tram every day on the way to the week-long Extinction Rebellion actions. The book provided a fantastic big-picture perspective on how a better world could look like. This proved to be a great motivator to begin a day's worth of protesting! Katherine's humanity, curiosity and sense for social justice shines through every page in 'Economics Of Arrival' just as it does when I spoke with her, a year and a half later on PGAP. The choice of muzak today is 'Ticonderoga' by Melbourne art-rock duo 'Privateer'. This can all be found on their branch new EP "Winter's Dream." (https://privateermusic.bandcamp.com/album/winters-dream). So sit back, enjoy the discussion and if, after the interview, you feel you still haven't arrived and are hankering for more of Katherine's great work: Dr. Katherine Trebeck's website can be found here (https://katherinetrebeck.com/). The 'Economics of Arrival’ can be bought here (https://policy.bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/the-economics-of-arrival). Why the Future Economy has to be a Wellbeing Economy | Katherine Trebeck | TEDxMünche - this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt9NKulHTDE) has merely received 65,114 YouTube views. Make sure you're number 65, 115! Katherine is co-founder of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (https://wellbeingeconomy.org/). Anyone who loves post-growth will adore WEAll so check them out now! IF YOU LIKED THIS EPISODE OF PGAP YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: Post Growth Institute with Robert Wanalo (https://pgap.fireside.fm/pgo) - Robert is a member of WEAll (just like Katherine!) and a member of Post-Growth Institute (just like Katherine's co-author Jeremy Williams!) In the wrap-up to the interview, I made some observations on contrasting opinions to fellow author Karen Shragg (https://pgap.fireside.fm/movingupstream), who I interviewed just one episode ago. Worth checking out to draw out your own comparisons! If you are interested in a global south perspective on family planning and population sustainability, my interview with Ugandan born Florence Blondel (https://pgap.fireside.fm/smallfamilies) is probably still my favourite of all the conversations on PGAP so far. Special Guest: Dr Katherine Trebeck.

Working Capital Conversations

it sounds like the set up for a bad comedy routine: What is the role of morality in business -- business ethics -- today? But in an age where reputation matters – where a business’ brand and customer connections can be ruined almost faster than you can “Tweet this” – not just understanding, but doing, the right thing is more than nice… it’s a business imperative. But what is “the right thing?” For example, how should businesses balance social benefit with bottom line revenue? For whom does a business operate? And is there a place for morality in the boardroom? My conversation today is with someone who sits, as they say, in the room where it happens. Jules Coleman is one of the nation’s preeminent moral philosophers. For years, he was the Wesley Newcomb Hohfeld Professor of Jurisprudence and Professor of Philosophy at Yale Law School. He then became the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning at New York University. Today, Coleman serves on a number of corporate boards as a Senior Strategic Advisor, bringing his decades of theoretical thought and analysis to the practical application of global business.

Product DescriptionA number of recent terrorist attacks were committed by young men and women who had radicalized, went to train with IS in the Middle East, then returned to their home country to commit acts of violence. In this text, Phil Gurski examines why some people decide to abandon their homeland to join terrorist groups, and whether they pose a significant threat to their societies if they survive and return. The focus is on Canadians and other Westerners who see violent Jihad as divine obligation, with the intention to challenge the view that foreign fighters are all brainwashed. The book first looks at state motivation for resorting to conflict and the nature of war, including Jihad. It then discusses why Westerners volunteered to join the military in past wars to offer points of comparison before focusing on why some are now going to Iraq and Syria to fight along groups such as Islamic State. This includes a thorough discussion of the increasing participation of women and the debates among extremists on whether they can engage in warfare. Lastly, the threat posed by radicalized fighters when they return home after either training or waging war abroad is examined in detail along with what is done to prevent and counter it. Written in an accessible manner by a reputed expert on terrorism and radicalization, the text will appeal to anyone seeking to understand why people join terrorist groups and the threats they represent to their homeland.About the AuthorPhil Gurski served for more than 30 years as an analyst in the Canadian intelligence community. In 2001 he joined CSIS where he was a strategic analyst, specializing in homegrown Al Qaeda-inspired terrorism and radicalization to violence. In 2013 he moved to Public Safety Canada as a Senior Strategic Advisor on Canada's Countering Violent Extremism policy.
