Text LEARNERS to 44222 for more... Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com Twitter/IG: @RyanHawk12 https://twitter.com/RyanHawk12 Jeff Immelt served as CEO of GE for 16 years. He has been named one of the “World’s Best CEOs” three times by Barron’s. During his tenure as CEO, GE was named “America’s Most Admired Company” by Fortune magazine and one of “The World’s Most Respected Companies” in polls by Barron’s and the Financial Times.  Notes: Raised in Cincinnati, OH by his father Joe and mother Donna. Both of his parents grew up in the depression. Growing up Jeff said, “I remember when my dad had a great boss, he was motivated, and when he had a lousy boss, he was neither challenged nor happy. The worst kind of boss he always used to say, was one who criticized all day long but never offered solutions.” GE was founded on April 15, 1892, by one of the greatest inventors in history, Thomas Edison. For most of the 20th century, GE had more patents than any other corporation. Jack Welch, deemphasized technology and innovation, and instead focused on management techniques like six sigma. Six Sigma is a data-driven methodology invented by a Motorola engineer named Bill Smith in 1980. It trains managers to be experts (called Black Belts) in improving business processes to reduce product defects. Jeff's first day as CEO of GE was September 10, 2001. On his first day, he introduced himself, via simulcast, to GE’s 300,000 employees. His second day as CEO was 9/11/2001. "Good leaders absorb fear. They give people a plan. You have to hold two thoughts at the same time." By the end of his first week as CEO, GE’s shares had dropped 20%, decreasing the company’s market capitalization by $80 billion. Leaders learn everyday — “I’ve always believed an important determinant of success could be found in how one answered 3 questions: How fast can you learn? How much can you take? What will you give to those around to you?” The trifecta: “In your career, you meet only a handful of leaders who have the trifecta of being able to innovate, execute, and develop talent. Omar Ishrak had that." Jeff was the ultimate grinder, a true believer of GE, he got the “meatball” (the GE logo) tattooed on the left hip. The GE story is extremely personal for Jeff.  Why the "Success Theater" story about Jeff is wrong. "For seven years, 10 times per year, I had a leader from GE flown to my house with their spouse. We'd serve them dinner and then I'd spend 6+ hours with the leader asking them questions, learning about them, and saying, 'Tell me something I don't know.'" What Jeff learned from playing football in college at Dartmouth: "When the best player is not caring about the team, nobody will get in line." The story of Harry Wilson (Russell Wilson's father, Jeff's teammate in college) and Reggie Williams. "Football teams are self policing. It's a series of peer relationships. Failure is not definitive. You have to always think about the next play." "The best people get 100% of the work done in 80% of the time. That leaves them more time to push boundaries." How did Jeff get picked to be Jack Welch's successor? "I was a good peer. Your peers are who promote you. Those relationships have to be earned." What was a Jack Welch Quarterly Business Review like? "Jack was a screamer. He was spontaneous. He would like at page 7 and then jump to page 17 and ask questions." Front line obsession - "You have to have a passion for understanding how people work." Front line managers - "I told them they are more important than me. That have direct access to the customer." The profession of sales: why it's noble Amazing sense of urgency - Never waste a minute or let it pass See the company through the customers eyes - "The salesforce sets the culture... I was persistent, dogged..." Good leaders are systems thinkers: Keep your head up and stay engaged at the same time Read books, ask question... "You must be curious." Sustain excellence: Must be a learner. "Fred Smith (CEO of FedEX) is my leadership hero." Heart broken over GE: "You can still progress as a human being even when you have a broken heart. You have to keep trying. Even when the efforts don't seem to be working for you." "There's value in a human being in just keep moving. Don't hide. Don't disappear." When you are on top, it is easy to be long on friends. When you hit bottom, there are a select few who reach out. For me, those standouts included American Express’s Ken Chenault, Delta Airlines' Richard Anderson, and especially Cisco’s John Chambers. Apply to be part of my Leadership Circle

Jeff Schwartz is the U.S. Leader for the Future of Work at Deloitte and author of the new book Work Disrupted: Opportunity, Resilience, and Growth in the Accelerated Future of Work. Jeff is also the global editor of the Deloitte “Global Human Capital Trends” report series, which he started in 2011. ______________________________________________________________________ Business leaders are always looking ahead to see what is coming in the future of work. The trends that we have seen coming in the next 5-10 years have been accelerated due to the pandemic in 2020. Things that we thought would happen in 5-10 years have happened in weeks and months. When it comes to the future of work Jeff believes that we are in the end of the beginning, and we are beginning the next chapter. We now have the technologies in place, in this new chapter we are going to see the implementation and scaling of these technologies and the new ways of working. “One of the one of my favorite quotes is a quote from Albert Einstein who said that you can't use an old map to explore a new world. And I think that's part of what we learned in 2020...But a lot of people are using old maps for new problems. And this is a big shift we're going through now.” Jeff believes that Covid-19 may be an event that changes work forever. One of the things we are challenged with in 2021 is to figure out if we now return to what we did before, or if we use the events of 2020 as an on-ramp to something new. Jeff’s view is that we will use it as an on-ramp to something new. What does the future of work actually mean We hear the phrase “the future of work” so often these days. It is at the forefront of so many discussion. But what does it actually mean? Jeff said it can mean a lot of different things, but for him there are three main things that make up the future of work: how work is changing, how workforces are changing, how workplaces are changing. Jeff says, “I think we spent the last 20 years setting the table for the future of work discussion. Identifying what the work, workforce, workplace options are, what the implications are for communities, regulation, education. 2020 was a bit of a fast forward button or a forced experiment button. And as I was mentioning earlier, you know, I think we are at the end of the beginning of the future of work. And we are at the beginning of the next chapter, which is taking these changes to work, workforces, and workplaces, and just implementing them at scale. Not on the side, but in the heart of what we're doing.” Top trends in 2021 Jeff and his team at Deloitte have been releasing trend reports since 2011 and they recently released their report for 2021. Some of the top trends they focused on were: The integration of wellbeing into work, not as a set of side benefits, but in a deliberate way that is integrated into work Super teams, which is how we put AI and robots on the team in a way that supports people and allows them to do more human work such as deep care, deep teaching, deep design, etc… Beyond re-skilling and looking at developing enduring human capabilities, giving workers what they need so they can shift and work up to their potential even when they have to do something outside of what they were hired to do The real challenges around workforce governance, we found out in 2020 we don’t have the data and information needed The elevation of the HR role in the first few months of the pandemic and looking at how HR can lead into this reimagination and re-architecture of the work era. What Jeff worries about for the future When it comes to the future of work Jeff is mostly optimistic and he doesn’t have many fears. But he does have a specific worry about the future. As he shares, “My concern is that we aren't taking advantage of the opportunities that we have in front of us, as both businesses and as communities in society. We're at a very interesting point, where we have the opportunity to do some pretty amazing things in terms of the way we live our lives, we organize our work, the way we organize education, the way we organize our businesses. And I worry that we're not really as focused on the opportunity as we can.” He is concerned that some of us are not prepared for the unpredictable part of life. As the world changes some of the institutions we have--such as schools, communities, and businesses--will have to be able to stretch and flex to be more relevant. We have to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that we have in front of us. With the innovation and technology we have today we have the opportunity to do some pretty amazing things in the way we live, work, learn, and organize. What do business leaders need to do to take advantage of the future of work When it comes to taking advantage of things coming in the future of work Jeff has some advice for business leaders. They are: Leaders need to recognize that the role of business leaders is to deliver value, not just cost savings. Big changes in the economy comes not just from cost savings and productivity, but from innovation, new value, and creating new sources of meaning. Leaders must wrap their minds around the idea that they are leading workforce ecosystems today, not just individual employees. It is not the same as 30 years ago where you just focus on who to attract, develop, and retain. It’s now about accessing, curating, and engaging. You can access talent in the form of a human or a machine. You can look inside of your organization or by using talent marketplaces. You really have to look at all of the ways you can access and curate talent. Leaders must think of themselves as co-creators. We have to move from a supervisor mentality to a player-coach mentality. Jeff’s advice for individual leaders looking to navigate this new world of work Individuals have a lot of responsibility in preparing themselves for the future of work. But we are highly adaptable and there’s a lot we can do. Jeff’s advice for individuals is: Adopt the growth mindset, don’t have a fixed mindset. Growth mindset is the belief that you can improve your abilities through hard work, exploration, curiosity, and learning. Your capabilities are not stagnant, you can do something to better yourself. Understand the importance of being a team player. There is nothing wrong with individual work, but in this new world of work individuals must be able to work well with a team, no matter what their role on that team is. We have to understand the different roles of teams, what a high performing team is, and understand that you may play different roles in different teams that you are on--whether you are a participant or a facilitator, an expert, or even the leader of the team Embrace the 100-year life span and the 50-60 year career. As we live longer lives we have to recognize that our careers no longer mean working for one company in one department. You will have multiple reinventions in your career, so it is important to recognize that and prepare for it. “If you think that your journey is going over one mountain, and you find out that the journey is going over six mountains, it really helps to know that it's a six mountain journey versus a one mountain journey, right? You're mentally prepared, you're physically prepared. And you know, we're telling people, it's a one mountain journey, you go to school, you pick a career, you go to work for somebody, maybe it's a two mountain journey, or maybe there's another mountain behind this one, but if we know that it is a portfolio of reinvention that the journey is much more varied than we thought. We think that will help us to be prepared.”

Believe it or not, you have a sacred purpose. There's a reason for you being on earth right now. In fact, we all have a sacred purpose for our lives. In this episode, I brought on Jeff Brown, an author and Enrealment Activist. Jeff and I discuss the idea of spiritual bypassing and how it differs from having a healthy spirituality. He shares his ideas about what a conscious capitalist society would look like and his thoughts on the future of patriarchal constructs. Jeff talks about his book, Grounded Spirituality. He also talks about how to move toward your sacred purpose and how men and women experience spiritual bypassing differently. About Jeff Brown: A former criminal lawyer and psychotherapist, Jeff Brown is the author of 6 popular books: Soulshaping, Ascending with Both Feet on the Ground, Love It Forward, An Uncommon Bond, Spiritual Graffiti and Grounded Spirituality. He is also the producer and primary journeyer in the award-winning spiritual documentary, Karmageddon, which also stars Ram Dass, Seane Corn, Deva Premal and Miten. After writing a series of inspirations for ABC'S ‘Good Morning America' in 2010, and appearing on Fox News.com and dozens of radio shows, Brown wrote the viral blog ‘Apologies to the Divine Feminine (from a warrior in transition)' that autumn, catapulting him to a greater degree of notoriety, particularly in social media. Jeff's new terms and short writings became a phenomenon some years ago, and continue to be shared by seekers and growers worldwide. In April, 2018, Jeff was invited to Ottawa by Sophie Grégoire Trudeau–gender equality activist and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau–to film a conversation about emotional healing and inclusivity. She had been sharing Jeff's words in speeches and social media posts for some time. Excerpts from that powerful dialogue are viewable on Sophie's Facebook and Instagram pages. Ordinary People. Ordinary Things. with Melissa Radke

Have you ever taken a personality test? I've taken 47 billion. I think it's because I've hated my personality for so long. I'm not kidding. I thought I was way over the top, and my laugh was obnoxious, and I was too high maintenance. I took every personality test known to man. Honestly, it didn't make me feel any better.  I was trying to figure myself out, because I disliked myself. I thought the answers in the test would tell me how to fix myself. But that's not me anymore. I don't want to change myself. I don't want to waste another second not being me. I still want to grow, mature, and refine myself, but I wanted to do it being me. Now, if I do a personality test, it's because I want to know what makes me tick. This is where the Enneagram comes in. Beth and Jeff McCord are here, and they are the founders of Your Enneagram Coach a website that not only helps people find out what their type is, but helps couples find out how to interact with each other no matter what type they are. They have even written a book to help Christian couples live their best lives using the Enneagram. Their book is called Becoming Us. We kick this show off with a kind of Enneagram crash course, and then break down how this information can be useful for individuals, couples and eventually even kids.  Show Notes: [05:50] The Enneagram is a typology system and way of knowing yourself. It's like your internal GPS. It will tell you your main type and your main destination. [06:48] The Enneagram will tell you why you veered off course and alert you before you get off course again. It can help you create a different mindset. [07:25] The Enneagram shows you why you think, feel, and behave in certain ways. It gets to the heart motivations. [07:59] It gives you hope that there is transformation ahead and a healthier path. [08:57] Beth and Jeff had trouble understanding each other about five years into their marriage. Some friends introduced them to The Enneagram: A Christian Perspective by Richard Rohr.  [09:30] Finally Beth and Jeff had clarity on why they were doing what they were doing.  [09:42] They've been doing this for over 20 years and are still learning and growing.  [10:40] Beth was Michael Hyatt's personal assistant, so she saw first hand how an amazing team works behind the scenes and develops online courses.  [10:48] Beth and Jeff started creating Enneagram courses and coaching people. It was amazing to watch people transform right before their eyes.  [11:05] They then developed the Become an Enneagram Coach course. They now have over 400 coaches in 18 countries who are transforming other people's lives.  [12:16] Because Enneagram is about why you do the things you do, you want to look at the core motivation of the nine types. [12:26] There are four core motivations. There's the core fear. There's the desire. There's the weakness. There's the core longing. [12:56] Type one is the moral perfectionist. Type two is a supportive adviser. [14:16] Type three is the successful achiever. They fear being exposed or incompetent. [15:22] Type four is the romantic individualist. They fear being cut off. They desire to be special. Their core weakness is envy. [15:55] Type five is the investigative thinkers. They fear being annihilated. They desire to be capable and competent. Their weakness is that they feel they lack too many inner resources. [16:36] Type six is the loyal guardian. They fear fear itself. They desire security. Their core weakness is anxiety. [17:20] Type seven is the entertaining optimist. They fear being deprived. They desire to be happy and content. The weakness is gluttony. [18:52] Type eight is the protective challenger. They fear being weak. They desire to protect themselves. Their weaknesses are lust or excess. [19:57] Type nine is the peaceful mediator. They fear being in conflict. They desire inner stability and peace of mind. Their weakness is sloth. [23:55] No matter what our type is we can get healthy.  [24:26] Beth takes people through a process called exploring you where they work through five guide sheets.  [25:37] We are all diverse. When we are at our healthiest, we bless everyone including ourselves. [28:41] The Enneagram is super useful for helping couples or people work together harmoniously. [29:12] We often assume people see the world the way that we do, but they don't.  [29:49] What Jeff and Beth are doing is the overflow of what has been going on in their marriage since the early 2000s. They've been able to transcend patterns of conflict and have language to describe what is happening inside of us. [33:31] Instead of fighting, try looking at things through the other person's lens.  [36:51] People parent according to their type.  [37:55] As kids get older, you start to notice patterns. There are unique ways to relate to different types.  [45:39] Jeff and Beth have created a marriage assessment and a book that will help couples understand themselves and each other.  [48:13] It takes couple six years before they actually ask for help. You can find courses that will help you in your marriage on the Your Enneagram Coach website.  [53:01] Melissa has fun asking Beth and Jeff three wrap up questions. A leader has to know how to leverage people’s strengths and align them to the tasks that have to be done. The most important part of a project is to create an environment of safety culture.   This week, host Sue Dyer speaks with Jeffrey Sims about the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and the Project Leadership Institute. About Guest Jeffrey Simms (1:33) Jeff is the Project Director at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Jeff heads up a program for the Department of Energy and has partnered with your host Sue Dyer.   Jeff’s Journey to Becoming the Project Director at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (2:38) Jeff grew up the son of a contractor and got a bachelor’s degree in structural engineering Jeff spent his early career working for engineering firms designing buildings and bridges After spending some time at a few national laboratories in the Midwest he transitioned to SLAC National Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA.   About SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (5:40)   SLAC is funded by the Department of Energy There are about 1,500 people focused on various research disciplines SLAC is adjacent to the Stanford campus and uses a linear accelerator that focuses on certain missions How Jeff Has Helped Spread the Idea of Collaboration Through the Department of Energy’s National Laboratories (8:00) Jeff is working to create an environment that’s more attractive to contractors Owners need to put the contractor at their same level and integrate them with the team A healthy partnering environment is key Bringing the stakeholders into the process is important You have to create a strong relationship between the leadership of the owners and the leadership of a construction company The larger a project gets, the complexity isn’t only in the tech, it’s in the people   Jeff’s Journey with the Project Leadership Institute (13:47) The vision of the institute is a year-long development program with week-long events that have learnings from Stanford and experienced leaders from the Department of Energy A group of 25 people is accepted for the year-long program, which is a mix of graduate-level training and experiential training The institute wants to create a culture of project leadership across the complex that understands how to manage large, complex projects The Project Leadership Institute is trying to raise the bar for project leadership culture across the bar for the Department of Energy and it is about creating a network that people can leverage going forward     What Jeff has Learned from Running the Project Leadership Institute (18:10) While easily defined by the Project Management Institute, in complex projects the people component makes it a Sociological experiment that is occasionally interrupted by technical progress.  One way you’re guaranteed to fail as a leader is if you have a lot of blind spots. Developing trust in our team and facilitating the development of trust helps you develop communication in a way that gets rid of blind spots.   Why Emotional Intelligence is Important (20:15) You need to understand how to have crucial conversations, balancing empathy and accountability We listen as leaders and understand challenges, but you can’t let up on requirements or accountability to delivery When we know our strengths and weaknesses, we can allow others to help us   How Jeff is Applying PLI Knowledge to the $1 Billion X-Ray Accelerator Project (22:35) A leader has to know how to leverage people’s strengths and align them to the tasks that have to be done.  You have to understand how to adapt when people’s skillsets change over the years.  It’s difficult to stay focused when you don’t know your individual triggers.   What PLI’s Graduates Have Learned and How They Apply It (25:00)   Preparing to lead daily projects - negotiations, etc. Becoming a highly effective leader - emotional intelligence, and self-awareness Positioning your project for success - risk and safety Delivering high-risk complex projects - making quality decisions The Graduation - crisis communications/management   Jeff’s Greatest Strength as a Leader (27:40)   Jeff is a fan of the Strengths Finder 2.0 tool - his strengths are focus, strategy, and being analytical. Jeff is constantly thinking about analyzing data to improve things on projects.   A Big Challenge Jeff Has Faced in His Career (29:14) Jeff has experienced a lot of scope, cost, or schedule challenges, but the biggest challenges have been about safety. He talks about a time when a safety precaution was being breached and how he lost his temper when the situation wasn’t taken seriously.   The Best Advice Jeff Has Ever Gotten (35:21) On a team, everybody gets the ball regardless of whether you like everyone on the team or not. You have to stay focused on being successful and minimizing emotions.   Resources for Listeners   Recommended Book: Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don’t Have All the Facts, by Annie Duke Try out the Gallup Strength Finder Learn more about Jeff’s current project   Contact Jeff Contact Jeff on LinkedIn Reach Jeff at https://pli-slac.stanford.edu   Jeff’s Parting Advice (42:00) Try to understand someone else’s perspective.  Listening rather than speaking should be your focus - this is a skill you should actively try to develop.   Please subscribe to Construction Dream Team for the latest episodes on our website, iTunes or Stitcher!  Remember…Construction Dream Team drops every Monday morning at 4 am PST. We all have personal barriers to the adventures we want to have, but what happens if the adventure you want to have means having to pack out an entire moose out alone? Do you go for it or come up with an excuse not to go? If you're Jeff Lusk, you just pony up and go for it. You take one step at a time and enjoy whatever the adventure throws at you.On this episode, I talk with Jeff Lusk about a solo moose hunt he went on this past hunting season. While it's always fun to recap an interesting hunt, it's even more fun learning about the struggles involved in any such adventure. What Jeff learned on his hunt can directly apply to your adventures even if you're not into hunting. Jeff was alone, battling the cold, the mental debates in his head of whether or not he should be there, and the physical toll that packing out a moose alone comes with.At the end of the day, he did it and he can now take what he learned forward on future adventures. That's what it's all about right? Learning and pushing yourself each time you go out so you can continue to grow as a person. Please enjoy this episode with Jeff Lusk. It also attributes to the challenge of being a well known and established musician in the Okanagan Valley. In this very honest and candid interview Jeff provided a very generous hour of his time to talk about his life, his struggle as an outcast, his triumphs as a musician and embarking on his latest and most ambitious project yet of becoming a part of Kelowna’s City Council. Our guest today is the founder of bawldguy.com, “real estate investing through purposeful planning.” With over 45 years of experience, Jeff Brown helps clients acquire rental property, selecting the right financing, and growing their investments. He is a prolific blogger and frequent contributor to various Facebook groups as well. Listen to Jeff’s no nonsense straight forward approach on purposeful planning on another episode of Grab Life Big! In this episode, you will learn: Jeff’s brief background. Jeff being a discounted note expert. What Jeff did as a competitive body builder in his early life. How much Jeff’s horizontal income is today? How to invest in non-performing notes. Jeff’s exercise routine. What Jeff does on his cross fit type workout. Jeff’s real estate business. Plus so much more! Jeff Brown puts his 45+ years of experience to the test as a real estate investing consultant by helping people do a better job of acquiring rental property, selecting the right financing, and growing their investments. His investors range from first-time buyers to million-dollar property owners. Some are college graduates, others were high school dropouts. They include business owners, teachers, electricians, office workers and more. Their common trait? They all have the will to be objective, adhere to a solid plan, and do everything on purpose. They start by creating a Purposeful Plan. Then everything they do with properties is according to the Plan. It’s not magic. It’s time tested property investment principles. In the end, all their clients accomplish the same goal. They retire with enough income to live their dream. Or, in Jeff’s words, they live the life they Purposefully Planned. Given the same amount of capital, their investors beat the average investor’s growth by 2 or 3 times to 1. Jeff’s firm was established back in 1977 with one purpose in mind: to take clients from where they are when they meet, to a magnificently abundant retirement. To that end, Jeff’s policy has always been to be not only hands on, but proactive when it comes to clients’ Purposeful Plans. Over the years they've made room for experts in subjects that directly and indirectly enhance in some way the results clients seek. Jeff has an extensive following on his own Bawldguy website as well as the highly respected blog BiggerPockets.

Jeff Nichols joins us on the show to talk about the essentials of strength training and conditioning for tactical professionals. We were super stoked to have Jeff take the time to chat with us because of a couple of reasons. Not only was he a member of the Navy SEALS, but Jeff is also one of those rare people who has been able to achieve the educational and research background to go along with his experiences on the teams. Before his military career, Jeff served as the Assistant Strength Coach at Troy University, where he earned his BS in Exercise Physiology. You will find in the podcast that Jeff is extremely dedicated to the men and women who serve our country. Where some strength coaches focus on getting in the gym and crushing workouts, Jeff promotes the essentials strength and conditioning training, like recovery, wellness, and general fitness, and reminds us that there is more to fitness and performance than hitting the weights. Some of the topics discussed are: 1. Where is the strength and conditioning field for tactical professionals going in the next five to ten years? 2. Why tactical professionals are the one group who needs human performance training more than anyone else. 3. Once you make it through selection, whats next? How should you be training? The difference between selection and deselection. 4. The pandemic of noncombat related injuries in the tactical communities. 5. What Jeff would do when the zombie apocalypse occurs. 2:24: Jeff describes his role in building strength and conditioning programs to educate and create resiliency for tactical professionals through the Preservation of The Force Program and its previous title, the Human Performance Program. 4:32 – Jeff talks about one of the original strength and conditioning coaches, Boyd Epley, and how during the 80’s these coaches were ahead of their time. Fast forward 30 years and the tactical athlete field is looking a lot like the state of strength and conditioning during the 80’s. 8:56 -“A lot of great progress is born out of necessity.” The changes in the army toward making the CSCS an MOS and the need for shifts in the way we train tactical professionals and athletes. 11:44 – Why tactical professionals are the one group who needs human performance training more than anyone else. College and professional sports need human performance training, however, think about the average career length of most semi and pro athletes when compared to a police officer or firefighter. 14:26 – The one thing holding back progress in strength and conditioning for tactical athletes. 21:15 – Once you make it through selection, whats next? How should you be training? The difference between selection and deselection. 24:14 – We discuss one of the most important, but most often neglected parts of training. 29:02 – Getting away from “Go do this because I said go do it,” and answering the why? Why do we do what we do? 31:15 – We discuss fitness standards and the impact of the debacle of a court case in Colorado Springs. http://denver.cbslocal.com/2015/11/10/female-springs-officers-win-lawsuit-no-longer-have-to-take-physical-fitness-tests/ 34:48 – The pandemic of noncombat related injuries in the tactical communities and how focusing on the essentials of strength and conditioning can reduce injuries and save lives. 37:45 – One of the biggest problems is getting the chain of command on board with a wellness program. We discuss these issues and examples of success. If you are a strength coach and need info on the money saved by wellness programs, send us an email at walker@trainfightrecover, and we will get you some data to use when talking to your department, unit, or agency. 41:43 – End the show on a positive note with some questions on Jeff’s daily routine, the zombie apocalypse, things he is not good at, and how to track Jeff down for more information. There's more to time management than meets the eye. In fact, productivity and good time management are key to unlocking greater health and wellness. When we have our energy, focus, and clear mind, any goal can be accomplished with a head-on approach.  In a world where it's easy to be overwhelmed by messages, meetings, and task lists, how can we get it all done and avoid decision fatigue day after day? Many of us are trapped by the belief that to be productive, we have to continue to stay busy and say 'yes' to every task, opportunity, or event that comes our way. However, that's the exact opposite of being good at time management. Being busy doesn't necessarily lead us to be productive or successful. It's just adding on more and more stress that we have to struggle to handle.  In fact, deciding to say 'no' to something doesn't just allow us to take time back into our own hands, but it also liberates ourselves from unworthy distractions too. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST On today's episode, public speaker, productivity coach, best selling author, and host of The 5 AM Miracle Podcast, Jeff Sanders, joins us once again to teach us how to be more productive, say 'no' and take our time into our own hands. We'll learn from Jeff about different tools and life hacks that can help us get from Point A to Point B, schedule time into batch or theme days, stay clear from distractions, and discover our own purpose behind staying determined to move forward in our goals.  Whether it's e-mails, task switching, or you're all over the place to get a project done, Jeff has the perfect piece of advice to help you manage your time.  Listen To Episode 115 As Jeff Uncovers: How he became such a thought leader in productivity. What you can do to create the reality you want regardless of the reality you have. What Jeff did to let go of the habit of being his own worse critic. How can we be more productive? What does productivity even mean? What is a batch day as far as productivity? How do theme days come into play? How can we commit ourselves to having a regular batch day? The importance of having a why or a reason for becoming more productive. How to segment time blocks during batch days. What tasks are better to do early on in the morning? How the tool, Freedom, is helping Jeff stay clear of distractions like social media, emails, and more. What are the benefits of theme days and how can they apply to anyone? How we can give ourselves the freedom to dive deep rather than hold ourselves back. The top excuses we tell ourselves that hold us back from being more productive and accomplish more each day. Why we don't have to fall victims to saying 'yes' to everything that people ask us to do for them. How does Jeff plan everything out while still having the time and energy to focus on his wellness? Why health and wellness are so pivotal for our productivity and success. Jeff's advice on how to get started on being more productive and creating better results: Make a list of what's coming up in the near future. Combine different tasks that have the same theme or are similar. Find times in your calendar and assign batch or theme days. Jeff's 2 Minute Rule for answering e-mails. How can we switch from one task to the next without losing our focus? Why we should give ourselves enough mental time to switch from a creative task to an analytical task. How to know when it's time to rethink how we're managing our time. Jeff's mantra that helps him become productive when he's busy or stressed. The most important part of the day for us to change our state. The power of saying 'no' or cutting tasks from your schedule. Top 3 Takeaways From The Show Batch days can help us take advantage of the time that we have in a week. By focusing on related tasks on one day of the week, we can make better use out of our time and move forward with other tasks that we need to focus on for the remaining days. Having a why or reason behind wanting to become more productive is vital for the entire process. You don't need to get a jump start at 5 am to begin the day. When you love an activity or task and have the motivation to do it, it'll be so much easier to commit yourself to getting something done. Saying 'no' to different tasks or distractions will help you stay on track with your goals and move you forward. You can schedule out your tasks according to you energy cycles. Like Jeff, if you find that you're more productive in the morning compared to the afternoon, plan ahead to get strategic work done first thing in the morning before moving onto other basic tasks. Power Quotes From Jeff Sanders [tweetthis]"Once you realize that you control your own time, you control what you let into your life." - @JeffSandersTV[/tweetthis] "If I can build myself up from nothing to five miles a day, a marathon is the exact same thing. You just keep growing and building. And in the same sense with my life, I ask myself, 'How can I add a little more each to day to what I'm already doing?' If I can see a little growth each day, then those bigger goals that once seemed unachievable, are actually possible." - Jeff Sanders on recognizing that any goal is possible.  "When I stay committed to daily, incremental growth, it's much easier to envision what my next move is going to be." - Jeff Sanders on completing goals and tasks that can help us envision our future.  "Productivity is very much like success. It's the progressive realization of our worthy goal or worthy ideal. All in all, making progress itself is success." - Jeff Sanders on what being productive means to him.  "Rather than looking to your distractions as an excuse, think about what you could do with what you have." - Jeff Sanders "Theme days allow you to stick to one specific project or idea for an entire day. Theme days not only help you schedule for when things are going to happen, but they also allow you to say 'no' to an activity or distraction because you've already chosen how you're going to spend your day. It gives you a clear sense of priority so that you know what matters today and what does not." - Jeff Sanders on the benefit of theme days.  "Once you realize that you control your own time, you control what you let into your life. All of a sudden, you can shift gears completely and start to be more proactive on how your time is scheduled. Once you reach that point, your day becomes your own." - Jeff Sanders on how we can take control of our day and the time that is available to us. "Health and wellness is what makes productivity possible. Health is really the number one goal because it makes everything else possible. If you want to get tasks done, you have to be healthy enough to do so." - Jeff Sanders on the importance of health and wellness when it comes to our productivity.  About The 5 AM Miracle by Jeff Sanders The 5 A.M. Jeff Shore on Deeper Meaning in Life and Business – Episode #82

There are people in your life who spur you on in ways that others don’t. They prod you, challenge you, and make you better. Jeff Shore is one of those people for Anthony. Though they are both avid sales champions they are also both drawn to pondering the deeper meaning of life and the reasons we do what we do as human beings. This conversation is not directly about business or sales but about the things that motivate us and make us what we are. The guys share a handful of challenging books, why they are drawn to ponder the deeper issues of life, and reveal the benefits they’ve discovered in doing so. You’re going to love this chat. Jeff Shore on Deeper Meaning in Life and Business - Ep 82 Click To Tweet Reading enables you to understand yourself and the world you live in. Even the business world. One of the things our culture has produced is a want of deep thinking. The trivial and frivolous take up most of our attention (stupid cat videos and Facebook memes). There’s nothing wrong with having fun but when it keeps us in a state of constant distraction from the deeper meaning of life and the purposes behind the work we do, we’re missing a valuable part of life. Anthony chats with his guest on this episode, Jeff Shore about the significance of reading deeply, why it is vital for shaping our thoughts and understanding of the world around us, and the benefits that come from living from a place of intention. The way you grow impacts how much you grow, in life and in business. Much of the reason both Anthony and his guest, Jeff Shore love to read philosophical books is because they’ve come to see that an understanding of the way we grow as human beings deeply impact the rate and quality of our growth. Each of them thinks deeply about who they are, why they are here, and the effect they are having on the world. It’s a great conversation on this episode of In The Arena - one you’ll benefit from greatly. The way you grow impacts how much you grow, in life and in businessClick To Tweet It doesn’t matter how smart you are, it’s "HOW are you smart?" that matters. There is only so much an I.Q. test can tell you. Yes, it may show you that a person is smart. But that’s not the most important thing. What matters is HOW they are smart. In other words, what is their approach to situations, people, and life in general? That is the kind of thing that determines how flexible, adaptable, and able to pivot an individual is - which can dramatically impact his/her ability to succeed. Find out more about this concept of “HOW” you are smart - on this episode of In The Arena. Learning to know what you don’t know is what helps you move beyond your limitations. Everyone tends to gather people around them who confirm their own biases. It’s part of the natural insecurity each of us has. We seek validation of our ideas and beliefs instead of challenging them intentionally for the sake of growth. But once you realize that you don’t know what you don’t know, everything changes. You become curious, eager to learn, open to ideas that may have once been off limits due to previously held beliefs that you discover were not true. This episode is a brief journey through the thoughts of a couple of thinkers. It’s an adventure, so be sure you join them for the trip. Learning to know what you don’t know is what helps you move beyond your limitationsClick To Tweet Outline of this great episode [2:25] Anthony’s introduction of his friend Jeff Shore.
