At fifteen, alone in Spain and accused of things he never did, he woke one night completely paralyzed—unable to move, unable to scream, watching a jagged, clawed hand reach for his face as a living shadow slid through his window. The room froze. A bodiless voice repeated the same chilling phrase three times: “The twins. The twins. The twins.” Then came months of psychic attacks—soul-pulling sensations, crushing chest pains, and icy forces that stalked him through empty siesta streets. When he finally left his aunt's home, the attacks stopped. For a while. Until Ireland. One quiet night, his wife woke him, terrified. They both heard footsteps, rattling, breathing. A cold, curious presence stood outside their bedroom door, watching—not hunting, not harming, simply observing. And when they saw the shadow glide across their yard, everything he thought he knew shattered. Because this time, the Shadow wasn't evil. It was interested. And that, he says, is what haunts him most. #ShadowPeople #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalActivity #SleepParalysis #ShadowMan #RealHaunting #DarkEntity #SupernaturalEncounter #CreepyStories #UnexplainedPhenomena #HauntedLife #ScaryStorytime Love real ghost stories? Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Well-known for a huge collection of megaliths, Menorca has seen human activity since the prehistoric era. This period was the Talayotic period, which lasted until 123 BCE. The island fell under Roman occupation, Vandal conquest, the Byzantine Empire, and, centuries later, British occupation. It is now part of Spain, and its official languages are Catalan and Spanish. But an island that has seen so much human activity for so long is bound to have a legend or two. Menorca's tales involve religious icons, enchanted cities, giants, and even the Cyclops. The Solar Car That Charges Itself While You Live Your LifeGrowing up, I always wondered: why can't cars just recharge themselves as we drive? Turns out, someone finally built exactly that.Robert Hoevers and his team at Squad Mobility created a solar-powered city car that does something brilliantly simple—it charges itself. There's a solar panel on the roof that continuously feeds the battery whether you're parked at the grocery store, sitting in your driveway, or cruising around town. The engineering is impressive, but the user experience is even better. For most people living in sunny climates—anywhere between 45 degrees north and 45 degrees south latitude (roughly Spain to South Africa)—you'll never need to find a charging station. Ever. Here's the reality: the average person drives about 12 kilometers a day for daily errands. School runs, grocery shopping, meeting friends. The Squad solar car has a 150-kilometer maximum range, and the sun replenishes what you use. You just drive it, park it, and forget about charging infrastructure entirely. This is what smart urban mobility looks like. It's street legal with proper crash structures, seat belts, and rollover protection. It tops out at 45 or 70 kilometers per hour depending on which model you choose—fast enough for city streets, not built for highways. In Europe, you only need a moped license for the slower version. The design sits somewhere between a golf cart and a Smart car, which makes perfect sense. Squad isn't trying to replace your family vehicle. They're solving the "second car" problem—those short daily trips where driving a massive SUV feels ridiculous. The market is responding. Squad Mobility has over 5,300 pre-orders and secured 1.5 million euros in European subsidies. They're currently crowdfunding on Republic to bridge the final gap before production starts in about a year. What surprised me most? Ten percent of their pre-orders come from American gated communities and golf cart neighborhoods. These communities already understand the value of compact, efficient vehicles for daily errands. Squad just made them solar-powered and street legal.Yes, you need consistent sunlight. If you live in perpetually cloudy climates, you'll still need to plug in occasionally. But for millions of people in sunny regions tired of hunting for charging stations or paying electricity bills to charge their second car, Squad Mobility built the obvious solution that somehow nobody else did.Sometimes innovation isn't about reinventing the wheel. It's about putting a solar panel on the roof and letting the sun do the work. This is the future of urban mobility, and it's arriving next year. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Postdoctoral fellow Elizabeth Carlen shares why a lack of pedestrians is the culprit, and how curiosity about minimal pigeon sightings in St. Louis landed her and her research partners in Madrid, Spain.

In 1975, the death of General Francisco Franco was announced in Spain, bringing to an end 36 years of dictatorship.Franco had already chosen his successor: Prince Juan Carlos, grandson of the last monarch, Alphonso XIII. This was the man who - Franco thought - would continue his authoritarian, anti-democratic and deeply conservative regime. But Juan Carlos defied expectations. In the years that followed, he would lead Spain from a dictatorship to a democracy until, in 1977, the country held its first free elections for 41 years.Jane Wilkinson tells the story using excerpts from the 1981 BBC and TVE documentary, Juan Carlos: King of Spain. This episode was made in collaboration with BBC Archives.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. Currently based out of both New Jersey and North Carolina, Hidden Cabins is an eclectic, indie alt-folk group comprised of Craig Cirinelli (microphone/hand percussion) & Brian Hofgesang (guitars/textures), writing melodic songs with a simplified vision, yet complex emotive flair. Far reaching exposure has seen the duo journey both within and outside of the US on multiple trips to England, reaching Scotland, Spain and Canada, to perform. After years of solely performing as a duo, Hidden Cabins expanded their sound by joining up with drummer Rich Perry and bassist Jason DelGuidice, recording an EP as a four piece aptly titled The Hidden Cabins Band, which widened the scope of their sound. This EP arrived on indie labels Engineer Records (UK) and Pyrrhic Victory Recordings (US). Within their active gigging schedule, the band played intermittently as a four-piece thereafter, when an out-of-state relocation within the band resulted in the group's hiatus. in 2018. Enter 2024, Brian and Craig reignited Hidden Cabins, recording a new batch of material while also rebooting their live set, gigging between duo, trio and four-piece band sets after longtime friends Brian Leahy and Tom Conti energetically joined the fold. This flexibility of delivering their songs has brought Hidden Cabins back to rooms near and far. Thanks for listening!!! On this day in Tudor history, 21st November 1558, a devoted servant of both Queen Mary I and her husband, Philip of Spain, died tragically young. His name was James Bassett. I'm historian and author Claire Ridgway, and in today's video, I uncover the remarkable story of this scholar, exile, courtier, diplomat, and loyal servant of a queen and a king. Born around 1526, Bassett was connected to the royal bloodline through his stepfather, Arthur Plantagenet, Viscount Lisle, an illegitimate son of Edward IV. His education was exceptional, taking him from Reading Abbey to prestigious colleges in Paris and St Omer, shaping him into a learned and refined young courtier. But loyalty came at a price. When his mentor Stephen Gardiner fell from favour under Edward VI, Bassett stood by him, even when it meant imprisonment and exile for his Catholic faith.  When Mary I ascended the throne, everything changed. Gardiner returned as Lord Chancellor, and Bassett's fortunes soared.  His personal life reflected the same devotion: he married Mary Roper, granddaughter of Sir Thomas More, forming a union steeped in faith and scholarship. Yet his promising career was tragically short.  James Bassett died on 21st November 1558 at Blackfriars, London, aged just about thirty-two. In this episode, explore: • His deep loyalty to Stephen Gardiner • His imprisonment and exile under Edward VI • His rise at the courts of Mary I and Philip of Spain • His diplomatic missions and political influence • His marriage into the family of Sir Thomas More • Why his life, though brief, reveals so much about Tudor politics and faith #TudorHistory #JamesBassett #MaryI #PhilipOfSpain #TudorCourt #OnThisDay #HistoryYouTube #TudorDynasty #StephenGardiner #SirThomasMore #ClaireRidgway #TheAnneBoleynFiles

Penny Arcade—poet, actress, essayist, spoken word, video and theatre maker—discusses her trajectory from an immigrant family, originally from Basilicata, Italy, to her upbringing in a working-class Connecticut town to her entry into the art world of New York's East Village. Looking back on her life as a homeless teen in the Village, her discovery by Jamie Andrews who introduced her to John Vaccaro's Playhouse of The Ridiculous, becoming a Warhol Factory Superstar, and her departure to Amsterdam, Arcade narrates the story of how she set off for Formentera, in Spain's Balearic Islands, where she started a school for children there, some of whom were children of drug smugglers. Recounting her return to New York City in 1981 and her split from Vaccaro, which marked the beginning of her independent work, Arcade recollects the state of the various art scenes in New York City during the Reagan era, the loss of friends to AIDS, and the censorship of the era. She vituperates the class divisions within the art world and the Manhattan Downtown art scene into which she never fit neatly, while underscoring her desire to “create theatre for people who had no theatre,” a fact which made her extremely unpopular within academia and among arts administrators because her work challenges these very elite systems. Pondering the values she espouses in her art and the fact that her audience has always been unique in maintaining a shared investment in her performances, Arcade considers how the catharsis in reaction to her art takes place well beyond the theatre hall. As an outsider to the art scene, noting how she hasn't received institutional support and has operated without funding, legacy media coverage, or any form of academic sponsorship, Arcade criticises the state of art funding from even before the 1980s, when the Moral Majority took aim at the art world and at the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) funding structures. Calling out the academic art world as a “pyramid scheme,” Arcade observes how the academic-produced genre of “emerging arts” has become a way for the elite class to ensure that their children would have a guaranteed “entry level position” post-graduation in the arts akin to the professional tracks for finance and law, proclaiming: “Art is not a profession—it's a vocation.” She also delves into the problems of identity politics that have permeated into arts funding and the art world and culture at large, remarking how these institutions recycle not only the same personas and narratives, ultimately limiting the “professionalised” scope of art. Responding to the recent “queering” of Marsha P Johnson, Arcade argues that Johnson was not transgender but was a drag queen, contending that the only reason why Johnson was recategorised as “trans” is because “Marsha is dead and black.” Get full access to Savage Minds at savageminds.substack.com/subscribe

His first encounter with the paranormal happened at fifteen — a night when a spindly shadow-hand reached toward his face, choking the breath from his lungs while a voice whispered a name he'd never forget: “The Twins.” What began as sleep paralysis turned into a real haunting, complete with dark figures slipping through walls, chest-crushing attacks, and shadows that moved with purpose. For years he outran it — leaving Spain, starting over in London, trying to rebuild a normal life. But the darkness wasn't finished. It returned with visions, paralysis, and the same inhuman presence watching him through mirrors like a scientist observing an experiment. Not a ghost. Not a demon. Something older. This wasn't a haunting tied to a house. This was a haunting tied to him. Most hauntings fade with childhood. His didn't. A presence studying him… waiting for something he still doesn't understand. #TrueGhostStory #RealHaunting #ShadowPeople #SleepParalysisDemon #ParanormalActivity #GhostStories #CreepyEncounters #HauntedLife #SupernaturalStory #ShadowFigure #RealParanormal #UnexplainedPhenomena Love real ghost stories?
