As library visitor needs have changed over the years, libraries have found that they often need staff to have different skills and characteristics compared to what they may have needed in the past. If there is a mismatch between someone's skills and the needs of a particular position, this increases staff stress as well as impacting the customer experience of the library.  In this episode, Beth and Jane discuss some of the training needs of staff to help them be as prepared as possible for the contemporary realities of the work. They interview Anne-Maree Pfabe, Library Manager at the City of Melbourne (Victoria, Australia). Anne-Maree shares strategies she uses for hiring staff who are a good fit for the library environment as well as ways her library tries to support the ongoing professional development needs of staff.

Denny Meek is an author, speaker, and a fighter. Her book, Still Standing: A Mother's Raw Journey from the Shadows of Loss to the Dawning of Hope, received an award as a MMH Press Book Award finalist. It is a stirring memoir that raises awareness about several issues, including: domestic violence, infant loss, anorexia nervosa, teen suicide, and grief. The book is being used at three Australian universities to inform undergrad and post-grad students in health sciences, social work, psychology, education, and nursing. She raised her children primarily as a single mom. Of her four children, three are deceased. One was lost to a rare heart disease as an infant, and two others committed suicide as teenagers on separate occasions. Denny was in two main relationships that subjected her to domestic abuse. She has had to confront many losses, pains, and challenging situations, but through it all, she has endured, survived, and learned to live again. Her fulltime mothering was supplemented by a series of odd jobs, from unemployment project officer to bar staffer, from photographer to professional tarot reader, from video editor to teacher's special aide. Born in Moree, outback NSW, Australia, Denny was raised in country town Northern NSW, near Queensland's Gold Coast. She earned a psychology degree from Macquarie University, Sydney NSW, and later a diploma of freelance journalism by correspondence. She's lived in Tasmania, Melbourne Victoria, Gympie Queensland, Coffs Harbour New South Wales, and now on 12 acres, on the southern Gold Coast with her adult son. On her property lives the world's second deadliest snake – the Eastern Brown – which was spotted and filmed in ritual combat by Denny – and received over 200,000 views on You Tube. This episode of the podcast I am joined by ‘Adi' and ‘Rue' both eliminated from ‘MasterChef Australia' this week after two very high pressure tests sending them home. ‘Adi Nevgi' is a 31-year-old doctor from Melbourne Victoria. ‘Adi' has always been a passionate cook, but a few years back she was forced to put her dream to be on ‘MasterChef Australia' on hold to work on the front lines during the pandemic. This season we saw ‘Adi' hang up her doctors coat and give this experience a real shot and I have to say I was very sad to see her go. Meet ‘Rue Mupedzi,' a 29-year-old oral health therapist based in Western Australia also set her sights on culinary greatness. Rue has already laded a deal with ‘Coles' Supermarkets and after talking with other contestants has won Miss Congeniality of the season. We did see her in that pressure test be only slightly beaten by ‘KAK ‘but something tells me we haven't seen the last of ‘Rue.' You will hear both contestants open up about their time on the show and get more insights into what really went down during production.  I will ask them about their highs and lows and if their careers in the health industry have ended to make room for the cooking ambitions? ‘Adi' will talk about cooking herbs and while she might not confuse Thyme and Rosemary again she probably will always kick herself when she tastes them.   ‘Rue' will talk about those sauces that sent her home and also talk about her sauces that landed the lucrative spot in ‘Coles' supermarkets.   Plus we will ALSO get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of 'MasterChef Australia' which is currently on ‘Network 10' and you can catch up on ‘Ten Play' if you have fallen behind.. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My final guest for Season 3 is Jo Maloney, a singer, songwriter and musician from Melbourne Victoria, and a mum of 3 boys, including a set of twins. As a child she saw any raised platform as a stage, and would love belting out a song or two for anyone who was around. On seeing Olivia Newton John in the movie Xanadu, it was the moment Jo knew she wanted to be a singer.Jo has enjoyed an extensive voice career that started when she competed in local talent quests from the age of 10 singing country music and anything on a backing track that she could get her teenage hands on before moving to Sydney. After 9 years of gigging the pub and corporate scene she relocated to London where eventually she found work in a number of cover bands on a full time basis. This also took her in the direction of band management for a number of years. It wasn't until she moved to Melbourne in 2012 after 10 years in London with 3 kids in tow, that motherhood really took over and became all consuming. It was when she turned 40 that she decided that she wanted to try her luck at writing her own music. It's only been in the last 4 years-just before Covid and now that her 3 children are older, that she really has decided to become accountable to herself and her dreams and put in 100% effort.Under the guise of Dragnfly Industri, her music weaves together creativity, thoughtful lyricism and eclectic pop- infused instrumentals, Jo released her debut single Ghost last year, it reflected Jo's life of once believing that dreams are risky and unattainable and only for the lucky few, to realising that they can come true. The track gained attention from industry and a core fanbase alike, winning the Real Songwriters of Melbourne Community Award, as well as earning a Top 5 spot in RSOM's song of the year.2023 will see Jo continue to embrace her development, set to release a self-produced debut EP in late 2023 as well as a slew of new singles.Jo exudes the philosophy that it's never too late to explore your passions, find your legacy and live your purpose every day.Jo - Instagram / MusicPodcast - instagram / websiteJo's music used with permission.

Hi, I'm Beverley Joy of Simply Story Poetry. Simply Story Poetry launches into this new year with the theme of LOVE. Ah, that's Amore. The story of Grace continues after she fell in love for the first time at 17 years of age. The last poem that I posted on 2nd December 2022 was about Grace 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' to move from Brisbane in Queensland, down south to Melbourne Victoria to live closer to her boyfriend Alex, leaving all her family dramas far behind her. Now, a year later, she was stepping out into the adult world to build her own life, make her own decisions and learn from her mistakes and benefit from her good decisions and adventures. The teenage love between Grace and Alex only lasted one year. Grace returned to Brisbane to live close to her family, but not in the family home. She moved into a small unit in a neighbouring suburb with her best friend from high school. Grace went on a blind date with Brian, a friend of a work colleague from her new place of work back in Brisbane. Brian rang her the next day to ask Grace out on their first official date. This date was old-fashioned and picture-perfect, like in a romantic movie. The guy and the girl are dressed in formal attire. He picks her up in a fancy car and drives her to a five-star restaurant where they eat seafood and drink champagne while chatting and looking out over the river lights of the city from their intimate table-for-two. Story Excerpt: You can read my poems and the excerpts from the story Wilted No More, which is the sequel story to the book The Wilted Rose, both written by Kate Kelsen at Simply Story Poetry on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and at simplystorypoetry.com. Enjoy this series of poems of love. Beverley Joy. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/simply-story-poetry/message

One of the things the queen's particularly determined about is not having that “cold unfeeling disagreeable man” Peel as Prime Minister. However, when Melbourne decides it's time to resign, the first choice to replace him, the Duke of Wellington, says it has to be Peel. She brings herself to see the man she dislikes so much, and manages, on this occasion, to put him off. So she forces her favourite, Melbourne, ageing and increasingly unwell, back into office. She can't pull it off a second time, though. On the back of a good election win, Peel finally forms a government with a solid majority behind him. He brings into office many of the old crowd – Aberdeen, Stanley, the dynamic and thrusting Gladstone. But one man he leaves out: the new young MP for Maidstone, Benjamin Disraeli. That may turn out not to have been his wisest decision. Leroy is located near Melbourne Victoria, and is like most of us, realising that every day is a school day when it comes to Flyfishing.  Transitioning from early beginnings of fishing for Trout in Tasmania and Victoria, Leroy is turning his recent attention to Australian natives and that delicious river meat known as Carp. We asked Leroy on to tell us about his sum of experiences in addition to how someone who has grown up with the influence of social media sifts through the smoke and mirrors to fine tune his results on the water. An interesting show that started off with no real direction that quickly took a few turns that would be of interest to anyone who is watching and tuning their interests through readily available information sources. Disclaimer .... Leroy knows that Goulburn River doesn't feed Eildon, he knows it's the other way around... it was just a brain fart that he wanted us to let you know about.  This show is brought to you by Nervous Water, Kettafly Apparel and Beast Brushes.

Peter Owen is a 63-year-old geologist, photographer and entrepreneur from Melbourne Victoria, Australia. He is a founding member of the TICNA (Tick-Borne Community Network Australia) public education group and President of the Conquering Chronic Illness patient support group. While recovering from a badly broken leg from a fall at his home, Mr. Owen began to feel incredible pain all over his body. Beginning with headaches, shoulder pain, and neck pain his symptoms expanded and migrated to include fatigue, panic attacks, and brain fog. Mr. Owen was misdiagnosed with MECFS after he was examined and treated by 30 doctors over 18 years. Despite an official government “there is no Lyme dogma in Australia,” Mr. Owen's general practitioner sent his 50 most afflicted patients for IGeneX blood testing and Mr. Owen's tested positive for Lyme disease. His IGeneX lab results were confirmed by a follow up test from the German Infectolab. The lab tests provoked Mr. Owen to join Lyme Facebook groups and research Lyme and tick infection treatment on his own because “there is no such thing as an LLMD in Australia.” His journey required him to overcome “disbelief and denial by doctors, family and friends” while exploring treatment options. If you would like to learn more about how an Australian Lyme disease activist is standing up swimming against the tide of an official government policy that denies the existence of Lyme disease, then tune in now!

Just in case you don't know, I'm Ray Wood and I'm a real estate agent from Melbourne Victoria living on a lake about 2 hours north of Toronto Ontario Canada. It's been a cold blast here at the cottage in the last couple of months where we have been in semi-isolation and various stages of lockdown for almost a year. The month of February is testing us because there's this weather effect called the polar vortex that brings with it arctic cold temperatures like minus 30 Celcius and feet of snow. But, fortunately, the boathouse is keeping us warm thanks to a wood fire we installed last year and some incredible spray insulation that keeps in most of the warmth. The boathouse has been a fun project and it's still a work in progress that will take me a bit longer to complete. Personally, this last year has been an amazing time. I feel I have better focus and direction. I feel like I have more drive and energy.  In the last 12 months, I have completely overhauled Bestagents to a digital marketing platform and with the amazing resources of Jigglar and LockedON, a steady stream of new members are coming on board while they can still get the heavily discounted founding members deal. My real estate funnel marketing model is working like a well-oiled machine and let me share what I've learned about the art of funnel marketing in the past year. There are 3 stages to a good funnel; Attract, nurture and convert.   The 16 digital assets including eBooks and autopilot lead generators we have created at Bestagents do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to attracting with the impressive resources of Jigglar pitching in by pumping out fresh professional-grade content on a daily basis. LockedON's new version 2 is turning heads and playing a critical role nurturing and converting contacts to listings and sales with the help of our digital pre-listing kit and lots of pre-written emails ready in the system. In fact, that's a perfect segway into this week's interview which is all about the power of email marketing and some awesome tips to make sure your messages are connecting with your contacts in all three stages of your funnel. My guest for this episode is email writing and marketing expert Chris Orzechowski, and the timing around the release of this episode is highly relevant as the Australian government finds itself in something of a Mexican standoff with Facebook. Basically, Canberra wants Facebook to pay for the news it strips and recycles. Facebook have said "I don't think so" and have started deleting content from any Australian Facebook page that faintly smells like it offers any kind of news. In fact, today's email from Chris (and as soon as we met, I signed up to get his daily emails) talks about this and he warns, you can't build your brand on quicksand which means don't rely on Facebook or any social platform for that matter to be there tomorrow. Chris says that's all the more reason to build solid relationships with great email marketing and I couldn't agree more. You are your brand, not some tri-color logo or pretty font. But here's the critically important thing: Marketing you doesn't mean talking about you.  Want to write better emails to attract, nurture and convert more contacts? Right now, you can download Chris' eBook, Make It Rain for free. Can I suggest you head over to https://themakeitrainbook.com/ (www.themakeitrainbook.com) and get your copy? Here are just some of the things Chris shares in his book which is a brilliant read by the way: How to segment your email list properly, so you can send the right offer to the right person at the right time. Why emails with great copy out-convert fancy, HTML emails… every time! How to make your emails stand out from all your competitors… and how to make people fall in love with the emails you send. 3 email campaigns that will work for you every day… even while you sleep! Losing your job and being between jobs for an extended period of time can be really tough; a mental and physical roller-coaster ride. Recruitment and selection is also a challenging process to go through. For those without a coach or a strong support system, it can be very lonely. There's also the potential for lack of structure and routine - which professionals in the corporate sector are so used to - making you feel without a roadmap to follow. And finally, success is unpredictable when applying for roles. It is rare for a professional between jobs not to experience a high degree of failure before getting a new role. And failure at this level is a new experience for many professionals. This is an important episode to listen to as we reach the tail end of an unpredictable year. If you are currently unemployed, it's time to review your plans and set new goals. You can use my program Reset Your Career to help you with that. But first, listen to this episode, and make sure you are taking care of your well-being, sleep, and keeping a positive mindset.   About our guest, Susan Hunter: Susan Hunter is a naturopath and well-being expert who works with individuals and organizations to optimize their physical and mental well-being. Susan runs a practice called Human 2.0, where she helps people optimize their bodies and improve their biology and psychology. She has developed a reputation for employing deep care, empathy, authenticity, and understanding of nutritional biochemistry to achieve transformative results.  Susan has 15 years of clinical experience in nutrition and integrative functional medicine. I invited Jacob Thomas to be a guest on the podcast so that they could help me unpack some of the many questions I have about how employers, recruiters, and coaches can better support trans, gender diverse, and nonbinary professionals. And Jacob did not disappoint. This is a much-needed discussion that I hope all my listeners will be interested in for their personal and professional development.   Some of the topics of our conversation include: choosing pronouns, employers and organizations looking for quick wins with what Jacob explains is “pink” dollar the recruitment of queers employees to reach diversity markers issues with dress codes conscious and unconscious bias Jacob's experience in changing their gender marker with their employer and much more. Jacob and I are friends, so the first 12 minutes is a bit of banter, where at least twice, I cried with laughter. If you want to check out the video interview, please go to my YouTube channel, where many of the podcasts are also available in video format.    About our guest, Jacob Thomas: Jacob Thomas is one of Australia's most prominent leaders in sexual orientation and gender identity. A nonbinary person living in Melbourne, Jacob uses the pronouns they/them and works at the Monash Warwick Alliance as their Education Project Coordinator, where they also guest lecture in Global Studies.   In 2016 Jacob received the Queen's Young Leader Award, recognizing Jacob's work on suicide prevention for Australia's LGBTIQ community. Jacob previously sat as the Coordinator of the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network (CYGEN) and represented the network at international levels such as the 61st session of UN Women's Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the 11th Commonwealth Youth Forum in London, and at AIDS2018 in Amsterdam.   Jacob advises public, private, and non-profit organizations on issues related to the LGBTIQ community, diversity and inclusion policies, and queer-friendly work environments. They are a mentor to many queer, allies, and senior leaders in Melbourne and internationally.   A greater speaker and facilitator, Jacob, has presented a TEDx Talk at QUT on the ideas around gender identity, is a contributor to Archer Magazine and Star Observer, and has written a personal essay for BuzzFeed about their experience coming out as nonbinary.   Jacob is interested in queer perspectives in intercultural learning, feminist methodologies, and youth leadership. They are currently undertaking their Masters in International Development at RMIT. In their spare time, Jacob is a performer, designer, and sometimes drag artist.   About your host: Hello, and welcome! I'm Renata Bernarde, the Host of The Job Hunting Podcast. Hello and welcome! I'm Renata Bernarde, the Host of The Job Hunting Podcast. I'm also a virtual career coach, job hunting expert, and career strategist. I teach professionals in the corporate, non-profit, and public sectors the steps and frameworks to help them find great jobs, change, and advance their careers with confidence and less stress.  If you are 1) an ambitious professional who is keen to develop a robust career plan, 2) looking to find your next job or promotion, or 3) you want to keep a finger on the pulse of the job market so that when you ready and an opportunity arises, you can hit the ground running – then this podcast is for you. In addition to The Job Hunting Podcast, I've created a series of free tools and resources, I run free live career coaching sessions, the Job Hunting Made Simple online course, and I coach private clients. So there is really no excuse – I'm determined to help you! I want you to feel empowered, nail your next job, and have the career you want.   Episode Show Notes Susan Colantuono's TED Talk "The career advice you probably didn't get" has over 4 million views and has recently been included as one of the top 10 TEDTalks for career moves by The Enterprise Project. TED has also included it in a special playlist for women's career development. It has been a favorite of mine for years, and I often recommend it to my coaching clients. So it was a huge honor to have Susan as my guest for this episode, which we recorded live in August 2020 during the 2020 Digital Innovation Forum, organized by the Department of Jobs, Precinct, and Regions of the State of Victoria. I was so grateful that, in preparation for the recording this episode, I had the opportunity to read her book, No Ceiling, No Walls, which I now recommend to my clients as well. This episode is dedicated to a better understanding of the relationship between leadership skills and career progression. Susan and I go through a lot of interesting discussions about leadership and its link to career development and advancement. This synergy and connection are so important for my ambitious clients: those who not only want to look for a new job opportunity but also want that opportunity to stretch their skills and experience further.   Timestamps to guide your listening: 09:50 – Susan's career story 16:00 – How she chose her preferred area of expertise 17:59 – The idea behind her famous TEDTalk: The ‘missing 33%' 21:51 – Feedbacks and pushbacks 25:23 – What has changed since her book No Ceiling, No Walls was written 10 years. 30:19 – Superwomen and infrastructure 34:09 – Tools and resources to move forward in your career 37:32 – Be careful what you're good at 40:27 – Employee perspective and manager perspective 42:26 – Hiring you is an investment 46:26 – Participant's question: Going through a promotion in the higher-education/public sector 50:41 – Participant's question: Insights on diversity and inclusion   Resources and Services Mentioned in This Episode: Susan's Ted Talk: The career advice you probably didn't get The Job Hunting Podcast Episode 37 with Michelle Redfern: The missing 33%: The CEO confidant improving diversity and inclusion in corporate Australia.  Susan Colantuono's book: No Ceilings No Walls Women's leadership community: A Career That Soars! When the opportunity arose, I immediately thought of Catherine Ball as a perfect guest for this partnership between The Job Hunting Podcast and #DIF2020. She's full of energy and generous in sharing her ideas, knowledge, and advice. There was very little prompting needed from me!  Catherine is one of the most prolific, efficient professionals and entrepreneurs I know. She also blends entrepreneurialism, academia, and corporate life seamlessly, at least from the outside. So there is really no excuse – I'm determined to help you! I want you to feel empowered, nail your next job, and have the career you want.   Episode Show Notes Alex Naoumidis is the CEO of Mindset Health, a startup he founded with his brother Chris in Melbourne Australia. It now has 2 apps on the market: Mindset (for mental health) and Nerva (for irritable bowel syndrome, which is often triggered by stress and anxiety), but its ambitions are much higher. Mindset Health is a company brand with the vision of managing multiple products addressing chronic conditions with app-based hypnotherapy. Since it's inception in 2018, Mindset has been building a loyal following of fans, like yours truly, has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Tech Crunch, and other news outlets, interested in their digital health innovation and hypnotherapy programs. It has also attracted the interest of investors: In May this year, the startup announced it had raised $1.1 million in funding from investors across the U.S. and Australia. The first half of our conversation was about the startup world: how Alex landed in the world of innovation and entrepreneurialism, about working in startups and building a team of diverse professionals. Then we focused on wellbeing in 2020, what/how and if COVID has influenced Mindset's next steps and growth, and what Alex can tell us to help us perform at our best during the lockdown.  This episode was the first-ever episode of The Job Hunting Podcast recorded LIVE with an audience. It was one of four special episodes designed to be part of the Victorian 2020 Digital Innovation Festival, or #DIF2020. DIF is an initiative of the Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions. In Melbourne, we are very proud of our innovation precincts, especially when it comes to health innovation. And Mindset is on a league of its own.    Timestamps to guide your listening: 07:54 – Alex tells us how he became a start-up entrepreneur. 12:36 – His strengths as a leader and as a professional to pursue a career as an entrepreneur. 14.38 – How has it changed having people working with and for him. 16:15 – How Alex chooses people to work with him. 18:09 – The differences in leadership styles: Alex and his brother and Co-Founder Chris. 18:57 – People coming from traditional sectors to work for start-ups. 22:18 – How is a hypnotherapy app perceived in Australia? 24:20 – Statistics of places in the world with most downloads of Mindset App. 25:11 – How hypnotherapy by app works? 27:18 – Has the pandemic changed the future plans for Mindset Health and digital health in general? 30:20 – Mindset growth plans. 33:13 – Tips for job hunters who are feeling very anxious about how to manage their mental health. 37:49 – How Mindset Health apps work and what is the most popular program? 38:50 – What's next for Mindset Health? 41:30 – Where Alex' sees himself 20 years from now. 42:35 – Is it viable to be based in Australia with the kind of start-up business they created? In addition to The Job Hunting Podcast, I've created a series of free tools and resources, I run free live career coaching sessions, the Job Hunting Made Simple online course, and I coach private clients. So there is really no excuse – I'm determined to help you! I want you to feel empowered, nail your next job, and have the career you want.   Episode Show Notes In August 2020, I delivered a presentation for over 100 senior executives on how to use LinkedIn more efficiently. The goal was to give these busy corporate leaders, a set of ideas and tools so that they can spend a minimal amount of time on the platform, and still have a LinkedIn presence that's punchy and interesting. So if that is you - that is if you also want to have that visibility, but you don't want, or don't have the time, to spend a lot of time on LinkedIn - Then this podcast episode is for you. The idea is to maximize opportunities and visibility: your LinkedIn profile and activity should position you as you want to be perceived professionally in the job market. This should be the ultimate goal. The organizers received more questions that day then we had the time to answer. So I'm using this podcast episode to address all the questions that we received, and answer them to the best of my ability, considering I'm not a big fan of "one size fits all approach" and believe we should all be looking at finding what is distinctive about our capabilities and skills, and not copy what everyone else is doing on LinkedIn. If you are fairly new to LinkedIn, I would recommend that you start our LinkedIn journey together by first listening to The Job Hunting Podcast Episode No. 34: How to make your LinkedIn profile stand out in 2020. Then come back to this episode and listen to the LinkedIn Q&A. However, if you are familiar with LinkedIn and an active user of the platform, you can go ahead and listen to the Q&A, no problem! I also recommend that you download my LinkedIn Checklist: it will help you get started on LinkedIn or do a quick review on your profile. I'd also love to hear your feedback and opinions. As I mentioned above, I'm not a big fan of the 'one size fits all approach to LinkedIn", so I'd love to hear what has been working for you on LinkedIn. When I'm doing LinkedIn Audits or working one-on-one with my coaching clients I can tailor my recommendations to suit their needs. I love doing this, it's really exciting to position professionals for success. And I see it works for them! And if you are listening to this episode a few months down the track, it's likely I few things may have changed on the platform. So keep that in mind, be smart, and adapt to make sure you are on top of the new trends and tools on LinkedIn. If you want my advice ongoing, join my The Job Hunting Podcast Private Group on Facebook and ask me a question in there. That's where I hang out the most and do my Live Coaching Sessions regularly.   LinkedIn Questions Answered: Timestamps to guide your listening: 8:55 - Do you recommend posting your mobile on your profile as I am now finding that I am being contacted by sales teams flogging? 12:15 - I am using LinkedIn to re-brand and promote my consultancy side-gig. I am publishing original content, sharing relevant content, and commenting on areas of interest.  Is this to be discouraged? 14:30 - Do you recommend a role-specific headline or a value proposition specific headline? 16:18 - Should the “about” section be in the first person or 3rd person? 17:48 - Should the approach on LinkedIn be different for those looking for new full-time employment versus a portfolio career person? 21:01 – Should the “About” section be kept short or is it okay to make it longer? 22:19 - What are the main sections you should use keywords to describe yourself for the LinkedIn algorithm? 26:02 - LinkedIn has introduced an open-work banner recently - do you think this is advantageous to use or does it have downsides? If one does not wish to use the big green frame around one's face to show open to work that LinkedIn introduced recently, is it ok to show OPEN TO OPPORTUNITIES at the beginning of one's “About” section? 30:34 - You often see headlines with words such as “Seeking employment” or “Seeking engagement” is the term “seeking” perceived as negative to the reader? 31:52 - When is the work experience section too long? 33:02 - How often do you feel one should post articles/share/comment? 35:24 - Would you recommend replicating your CV in the experience section? 37:15 - I'm not picking up the best jobs on my job alerts. Why is that? 38:33 - Does the algorithm pick up content in messages? 39:42 - How important are endorsements, and can you have too many? 41:36 - Do you recommend LinkedIn Premium, what are the benefits vs standard membership? 43:02 - If you have recently left your last role, when should you update LinkedIn to show you have left, and how best to indicate your current situation? 45:16 - What's your view on opening your connections to all? I keep my connections private despite having 750+ 46:11 - Do you have any guide on how long you should retain links on our profile? How regularly would you recommend ‘refreshing' with more current links? 47:20 - I don't understand the “Search Appearances” function on LI. Draconian laws in Melbourne, Victoria. New Zealand gov. panics. South Africa falling apart. The Duran Quick Take: Episode 629. Via Summit News (https://summit.news/2020/08/11/new-zealand-goes-into-lockdown-after-just-four-new-cases-of-coronavirus/)... New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has ordered parts of the country to go into lockdown after just four new cases of coronavirus, the country's first in 102 days. “The infected people are from the same family in south Auckland,” reports ABC News. Ardern's response to four people from the same family being infected was to order a three day “level three” lockdown of Auckland while the rest of the country will go into a level two lockdown. Under level three restrictions, travel into Auckland is suspended while people will be asked to stay at home as businesses, bars, restaurants and schools all close. The total coronavirus death toll for New Zealand amounts to just 22 people. That's right, 22 people, over the course of the entire pandemic. *** The Patriot Beacon #1 Tactical Flashlight on the Market Link: https://www.patrioticlegacy.com/product/patriot-flashlight/ Coupon code: Duran20

Marietta Mehanni from Melbourne Victoria talks with Dianne about using the Gymstick as a tool for postnatal training and strengthening in returning to fitness and running. Resistance through the bands can be altered allowing levels of exercise challenge to fit the stage of recovery that a postnatal mum is at. The feeling of pull through the bands gives a whole body awareness when strengthening in a training session, while also giving mums permission to work at their own pace, according to their energy level on that day. Marietta runs classes from her home studios in Melbourne twice daily and also has a virtual class membership so classes are available at any time through https://www.mariettamehannieducation.com Marietta highlights some ways to help women move through the recovery journey, such as by using journalling, which can be for some women, likened to an athlete recovering from an injury.   Contact Marietta through: www.mariettamehanni.com www.mariettamehannieducation.com for booking into a Zoom class or becoming a member – to access workouts after they have been scheduled. Welcome, hello, G’Day, hi, we are glad to announce the latest episode from Nerds Amalgamated is here. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it for you. Also as Supanova Brisbane has now happened we have to say thank you to all those who stopped by the booth, it was fantastic to meet you all. We hope everyone enjoyed the week end and have lots of photos to remember how cool it was. It was awesome seeing so many amazing cosplayers and catching up with our friends from Comics2Movies, the Sons of Obiwan, Jamie Johnson, Super Tee, Cyanide Pop Press among so many others. First up this week we have facial recognition drones being utilised by Police Scotland to help find people who get lost. That’s right folks, AI drones using facial recognition to find individuals. Now, we know what you are thinking, hang on, this is a problem, next we know it will be used for… You will need to listen in to find out more. But we are sure you will enjoy it and have a laugh. Second, we have news that is promising for game developers and gamers all over the world. Yep, that is a bold claim, but we are sure you will agree when you hear it. Those legends at Take Two have discussed the future of gaming and the expectations of a drop in the costs of game development. What is suggested is great and worth looking forward to. We have some fun on this topic and really get into it. Our third topic for the week is about Stargate Command. No, the Goa'uld aren’t attacking, and the Wraith haven’t found the way through the Stargate to our universe. No, it is sad news, but possibly good news also. That’s right, a little bit of good news to look forward to that off sets the bad news. Now for the fans of Stargate this news is pretty big, and for those who need to evolve their appreciation then you better hurry up. The Professor and Buck are now contemplating a marathon viewing based on this news. Want to know what this news is you know what to do. Aspiring farmers registered We are at 790 aspiring farmer members from all over Australia. Thanks to the 85 in the last month. We appreciate you all very much. If you aren't a member, please signup here (Free or Premium) www.cultivatefarms.com/pricing We need you to back us to help ensure Cultivate Farms takes off. It costs us to keep things going and we need our aspiring farmers to step up and help fund our operations. You can sit back and not sign up, or be a free member - that's great - but wouldn't it be much better to work through a farm ownership plan with us and ensure we keep finding farm opportunities for you? There are also a stack of benefits for you to being a Cultivate Farms premium member a) You get to chat with the Cultivate Farms team b) We work through a farm ownership pathway plan c) Mecardo market analysis membership (valued at $300) d) We directly notify you of farm opportunities (some are only promoted to members) e) Monthly webinar for members only 2. Weekly update Behind the scenes discussions: We are having so many behind-the-scenes discussions with aspiring farmers, investors and retiring farmers. It takes a while to get to know people, what they want and the farm opportunity. We continue to keep in touch with all of our retiring farmers letting them know who is applying for their farms. But also keeping in touch with those who have indicated an interest. These farmers are dabbling with the concept of transitioning ownership to kids that aren't their own and this takes time which we have to be appreciative of. I did an interview with the Founder of RCS, Terry McCosker. Terry had some gold about how to make your farm dreams a reality, his thoughts on whether retiring farmers are ready to transition to kids that aren't there own and what you as a farmer need to know to succeed. We have had such great feedback on this interview - so please do add this to your playlist. Tim is complete the Grazing for Profit RCS course this week in Wagga Wagga NSW so we can learn first hand why people love what RCS are teaching You can watch the interview here. https://www.youtube.com/watch…. Cultivate Talent - we are unpacking a recruitment concept with a corporate farm. Their biggest risk is finding farmers who are dedicated, hardworking and there for the long haul. They are open to helping their farmers get farm-ownership-ready and we think we could have an amazing farm employment concept that could change how farm jobs are rolled out across the country. Both parties know you want to own a farm, and you will work together to get you there, but in the meantime, work hard on the farm. We are applying for a couple of grants for the Cultivator Program and also a community farmer activation program - where we will help regional communities find their own farm matches. 3. Community farmer activation program We have been working with a community leader in North East Victoria who is keen to see more young people get onto farms in their district and to help retirement aged farms step back with dignity and remain in the community. So after some discussions, we developed a community farmer activation program which we want to share with you now and encourage any community in Australia to reach out if this is of interest. We know that there are plenty of solutions to get young people back to your farming community. It takes time and a few dedicated people to make it happen. But essentially you can be the farm matchmakers and you are in the best place to do this because you know the social landscape. Our plan is that over 2 years we assist a farming community to attract 3 aspiring farmers into farm ownership and to assist 3 retiring farmers into transition ownership while remaining in the community. Most farming communities are aware of the change in demographics of their community over the past few decades. The ability to retain and attract next-generation farmers is getting harder. However, the farming opportunities in any region are many and varied and the scene is set for local communities to look at the current situation as opportunities for exploitation. There are many retirement-aged farmers who would be open to transitioning ownership to next-generation farmers. There are communities full of passionate people already taking action to continue to see their district thrive. We just need to tap into this and offer practical solutions. 4. Document your farm ownership journey on social media We have been talking to all our premium aspiring farmer members about the power of social media to fast track their farm ownership dreams. Everyone should be documenting their journey through social media. Bianca from OurCow is doing this and you should follow them. The ability for this to open doors that you can't open yourself is immense. We want you to tag us in any posts that you create or think are relevant as well, so we can share and promote you to increase your chances of ownership. 5. Farmers coming to us with vendor deals We have had a few farmers coming to us with vendor finance deals - this is great. But how come you haven't already found these deals!? You should be out there contacting all these farmers and they should feel overwhelmed with attention from passionate aspiring farmers jumping onto any opportunity that could help them. We will be promoting these opportunities soon, but you should be finding these yourself. You should know all the farms that are on the market and understand the needs of the farmers. Maybe there are farms that haven't sold for over 12 months - these ones you should definitely contact the real estate to see if vendor terms would be an option. You should be emailing all real estate agents anyway for any farm opportunity and asking them if vendor terms are available. The squeaky wheel will get the fix and soon real estate agents will be finding your deals just to get you off their back! 6. The best way to convince someone to back you onto your farm We believe that the best way to get onto your farm is to start farming yourself. If you are already running a farm operation using your own money and making sacrifices, then this is the number 1 best way to prove to a retiring farmer or investor that you are worth backing. If you are good with your own money, then you will be good with theirs. You are most likely not going to be able to buy a farm on your own. So you need others. Therefore you focus is on impressing people. We know it is hard to find, but keep a focus on finding land to lease and setting up a small version of your ideal farm. Get a herd of 10 cattle, start growing mushrooms, do whatever you can to show you are on a trajectory to having your own farm. You know how hard it is, but you want to show everyone you want this bad. 7. Apple Orchard South West Tasmania This farm is a sale, but the vendor is open to some form of vendor terms. We thought this was a great one to promote with the owner because we this a farm entrepreneur might be able to see the value and then find investors to back them and go for it. https://cultivatefarms.com/…/appleorcha… It is 3.5 Hectares in Cygent in the South West of Tasmania It is already a profitable operation and has the opportunity to tap into the cider market and convert the house to tasting rooms or another option is to grow late season cherries on it in conjunction with the apples to further compliment the current structure. 8. Update: 130 acres near Freycinet Tasmania We have a lease opportunity that has been available for a while near Bicheno on the east coast of Tasmania. On the doorstep of world renowned Freycinet National Park. I had the opportunity to visit the 132 acre property the other day while down in Tasmania and met up with the owner. The owners are great and have really setup a green field property that is right for a top gun farmer. We kicked around ideas why we haven't been able to find a farm entrepreneur to jump onto this farm and then we thought we should think bigger. So we are now going to approach a few larger farming operations to see if they would be up for incubating the farm as an extension of their current operations and back a top gun farmer. The property has so much potential. So keep a watch out. Do get in touch if of interest 9. Farm ownership opportunities We have 22 farms that you could own with retiring farmers tomorrow. We want you to check these out and pass the details on to friends and family. These are red hot live opportunities which could set you up for life. The process will be that you do a basic pitch and then we give it to the retiring farmers to decide if they want to take it any further. If they do it's then a number of conversations to find the best solution for you both. www.cultivatefarms.com/farms 1) Tasmanian Apple Orchard https://cultivatefarms.com/…/appleorcha… 2) 640 acres Murrayville Victoria: https://cultivatefarms.com/…/640-acres-… 3) Mushroom farm sale Gippsland Victoria https://cultivatefarms.com/…/gippsland-… 4) Free Range Chicken Lease Tasmania: https://cultivatefarms.com/…/Opportunit… 5) Organic Farm share farm just outside Melbourne Victoria: https://cultivatefarms.com/…/Organic%20… 6) Permaculture Dorrigo NSW https://cultivatefarms.com/…/80acreperm… 7) Dairy ownership pathway | North East Victoria - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/dairyn… 8) Cattle Leasing - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Cattle… 9) Mushroom Farm Opportunity - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Mushro… 10) Walnuts & Truffles Farm - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Walnut… 11) Cherry Orchard in NSW - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Cherry… 12) Greenfield opportunity Freycinet Tasmania - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Manuka… 13) The Mantle 250 Hectare Farm in Toolern Vale Vic - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/TheMan… 14) Kilkivan Community Farm Qld - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Kilkiv… 15) 74ha Lime tree farm west of Dimbulah Qld - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/LimeFa… 16) 70 acres Chestnut Farm in Western Australia - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Chestn… 17) Intensive Aquaculture in Rutherglen Victoria - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/IntensiveAquacultureRuther… 18) Rare Vegetable Seed Farm in Victoria - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/RareVe… 19) 100 Acres in North East Tasmania - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/100acr… 20) Tropical Horticulture Northern Territory - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/ntmark… 21) Northern Territory Small Beef Farm - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/f…/NTBeef 22) Olive Grove in Tasmania - https://www.cultivatefarms.com/…/Tasman…

Understanding when the right time to expand your business is critical to it's success. So when Anthony Hunter form Plan B Plumbing Solutions in Melbourne Victoria, sent me an email asking me to cover the topic in an episode, I called on two of the most experienced people I know. Al Levi (The 7 Power Contractor) and Ellen Rohr (The Plumbers Wife). Both Al and Ellen have appeared on the podcast before and each time they come on the show, the ratings soar. Also, their giveaways have received some of the most downloads so far, so be sure to get a hold of them at the bottom of this page. Here are the links to Al and Ellen's previous podcasts in case you missed them. They're good. Like, seriously good. Meet the Plumbers Wife, Ellen Rohr From A-B with Al Levi Ellen Rohr Series - Business Uncomplicated Get a grip on your financials Business planning made easy D-Day (Decision Day) Al Levi series - Powering Your Business with The 7-Power Contractor Approach Planning Power Operating Power Staffing Power Al Levi series - Why Most Family Businesses Don't Work Org Chart Defining roles Steering the ship The question "When is the right time to expand? When the work is there, or during the planning phase". To give you a bit of background on the question, Anthony is trying to create an exit strategy in his business, so he's trying to get the right people in the right place to that he can phase himself out of the operations. Pretty smart move. Probably something we all should invest more time into. At the end of the day, if your business doesn't have systems in place, it makes it very hard for someone to acquire it. If everything is in your head, now would be a good time to start getting it out of your head and documenting the things that you and your staff instinctively do on 'auto pilot'. Why I asked Al and Ellen on this show Both Al and Ellen have had extensive experience in knowing when the right time to expand a business is. If you go back and listen to Al's podcasts, you'll hear him talk about the family business he grew up in in New York and the systems that he created which later formed the foundation of The Seven Power Contractor methodology which he teaches at his company, Appleseed Business. Ellen in her own right has also worked with organisations all over the USA to help them grow their businesses. EllenRohr.com is fantastic resource to go and check out Ellen's conquests. Both Ellen and Al are now working with Zoom Drain, which is a franchise drain cleaning business in the USA. Zoom Drain is one of the fastes growing trade franchises in North America and much of their growth has come as a result of the leadership and structure that Ellen and Al have been able to implement into the organisation. The bottom line is, they know how to grow a business and they know how to do in a way that's sustainable. What I learned from this podcast about when the right time to expand is It seems that everyone was in agreement that the right time to expand is when the phone is ringing and you have the work. Yes, it might sound like a good idea to have the right people in place for when the magical switch get's flicked and the calls start pouring in, however the reality is, that approach is pretty risky. So the first step is to get the phone ringing. Sure you can plan to put people on in the planning stage, however set your strategy around putting the people on, once the work is there. Related podcasts If you like this topic, you might want to also check out the following recordings. The Big business series with Ben Stainer. Episodes 029, 030, 031, 032. in episode 33, Jeremy Dyer talks about franchising, which is a great business mindset for scaling and growth as it's based of systems. Episode 097 and 098 with Greg Hamlyn. They're about how to find the right staff and how to keep them. Anyway enjoy this awesome podcast and if you have any questions, feel free to email me at enquiries@TheSiteShed.com. Also, please don't forget to leave us a review in iTunes. Visual observation saw peaks reach an incredible 1.89 uS/Hr !So, what is going on here? From many accounts the inevitable is happening. The nuclear radiation from the crippled Japanese, Fukushima power plant in the Northern Hemisphere has breached the equatorial belt and seeped into the Southern Hemisphere and now this contamination is gradually raining down on us from within the upper atmosphere. How much, we do not know and it is difficult to find out as Governmental measuring stations and laboratories globally are not letting out any information. What effect this will have on Nuclear Free NZ is anyones guess. Primarily because there does not appear to be anyone that we know in the public sphere, championing the Nuclear Free issue anymore. It's as if there is a collective dereliction of duty by the crew in this sector of Mothership Earth and they have all gone AWOL.Yet, the Japanese ambassador to Switzerland has broken ranks with his Government and has taken this to Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the UN to ask for the worlds greatest brains to find a solution immediately. Why? Because things are far worse than what we are being told.Reactor Number 4 being in a super critical situation.Question? What are Mums and Dads to do? As children are the most susceptible to radiation, what is their future going to be?Listen to a very lucid and rational telling of the events leading up to this nightmare.
