It was a little tacky for Vance to stunt on reporters waiting to see Harris - and it was straight up sick for a Trump campaign spox to say Air Force Two "smells" because she's been flying on it
For a guy who doesn't consider himself a plane nerd he sure does have a lot of knowledge about this topic.

Last week was a busy one on Fox News. The network hosted its first GOP presidential debate. Trump got booked in Fulton County. His mug shot was plastered all over the network. Several hosts and guests on Fox pushed the idea that every Trump supporter could be the next victim of the Democratic machine. Hunter Biden traveled on Air Force Two but let's not talk about Jared or Ivanka. I do a couple of silly voices at the very end. There's also a Clutch Your Pearls moment. This is a public episode. Frank Blount was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force in 1960 upon graduation from Florida State University and completion of its ROTC program. Over the next 20 years, Blount would pilot planes carrying everyone from the President of the United States to heroes of our space program to precocious kids. He would also see intense action as a gunship pilot in Vietnam. In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Col. Blount takes us through his early days as a Super Constellation pilot and some of the unusual circumstances he faced in that role. He then tells us about changing to the C-130 and flying through 18 typhoons in East Asia before returning to the U.S., where he flew the Apollo 13 crew to Washington after the dramatic conclusion of that mission. He also flew the president and vice-president as a pilot of Boeing 707's commonly known as Air Force One and Air Force Two.Finally, he describes rejecting an assignment stateside in order to fly an AC-130 gunship in Vietnam. Blount takes us inside the intensity of that combat, being close to one of the rare gunship disasters of the war, and flying a mission after the war was officially over.
Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, This is Spinal Tap, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind) said, “When it comes to comedy, Tom Leopold has an extra gene. You may not know it, but he has probably made you laugh.” Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, NPR, This Is Spinal Tap) called him “a semi-precious stone in the crown of comedy,” appellations Leopold treasures. Indeed, he may well be one of the most prolific and successful comedy writers ever, having written for sitcoms in the US and the UK, material for Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Jonathan Winters, Michael McKean, Chris Guest, Chevy Chase, et al. Raised Jewish, the natural raconteur was baptized and received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil in 2011. The conservative-minded comedy writer and one-time actor has some fascinating insights into what we call the culture, especially important for the Covid-19 lockdown. We are delighted to welcome journalist and best selling author, Miranda Devine. Miranda has written the most intriguing, absorbing, funny and comprehensive book on Hunter Biden's laptop in just 200 pages. We have touched on this subject a couple of times with Phelim Mcaleer who directed the movie 'My Son Hunter' and with Garrett Ziegler from MarcoPolo USA, but by writing a bestselling book on this topic, she has brought this sorry tale of addiction, greed and corruption to the wider world. As a journalist she shares what first brought the now infamous laptop to her attention and why she had to write this book. So join us this episode for Mirandas insights as we take a deep dive into why the Biden Crime Family affects us all. Miranda Devine is a New York Post columnist and Fox News contributor. She also works for the Australian media as a Daily Telegraph columnist and a Sky News contributor. Born in Queens, New York, she grew up in Tokyo and Sydney, and attended North-western University in Chicago. A reformed mathematician and mother of two, she lives in New York with her husband. Transcript [0:22] Hello, Hearts of Oak, and welcome to another interview coming up in a moment with Miranda Devine, the journalist who wrote Laptop from Hell, Hunter Biden. And I had the fascinating privilege of hearing Miranda speak at a conference in February. She was the keynote speaker there. And I immediately got hold of the book. I'd followed the work she had done, read it cover to cover, fascinating, short book. And I know we've delved into this topic before. Miranda brings, again, everyone brings something unique, something fresh and I know you will enjoy listening to her. She unpacks not only Hunter Biden's lifestyle, his lifestyle of drugs, alcohol and sex addiction, which is a sorry, sorry tale, although it is quite comical the book at the beginning and I find myself laughing. I don't know whether I should have been. Through the early parts as she writes a tale and tells a tale, a sorry tale, a sad tale of a chaotic lifestyle financed by Joe Biden. And then we go into that corruption side and how Joe Biden is very much part of that and the Biden name is used for corruption for financial deals across the world with multiple companies. So join us as Miranda delves into the dark world of Hunter Biden and the corrupt world of his father Joe Biden. It is an absolute delight to have Miranda Devine with us today. Miranda thank you for your time today. Thanks for having me, Peter. [1:47] Not at all. I had the pleasure of seeing you in CPAC and also in Miami a month earlier. So it's absolutely wonderful. And we have touched on Hunter Biden before. We have had Phelim McAleer before. And we so we've looked at a little bit before, but I've had great fun reading through the laptop from hell. I will get into that. Your handle @MirandaDivine. There is your Twitter handle and all the links to the book and everything else are in the description. [2:20] Now I think in the intro you say that a month before the 2020 election, I think it was you talked about Rudy Giuliani emailing you with info from the Hunter Biden laptop. Was that your dissent into Hunter Biden's world? Yes it was. It was actually Rudy Giuliani's lawyer at the time, Bob Costello and he texted me some just a few choice grabs from the laptop and he said it was late at night I think a Friday night and he said I'm just sending you this so you know that it's legitimate and let's talk. This is you know he'd spent the past since the end of August this was now, the beginning of October, he'd spent all that time just verifying as best he could that this was real, that the laptop repair shop owner who had sent him the material, sent him the hard drive [3:24] was a legitimate person, and he was satisfied to the extent that he felt that he could approach the New York Post. And so I guess that was the beginning of it and of course, you know, when we published, I mean it was a legitimate story, it's been proven over and over again since then that the emails that we published were real, but we were immediately censored. [3:53] Well, you talk about that as being kind of a moment that made you kind of become curious in the issue because when I guess a story is censored you begin to ask why it's been censored. So was it that that kind of perked up your interest in this, curious to find out why it was being restricted. Oh no, I mean I knew from the minute that, you know, we got a look at what was on the laptop that this was a bombshell story. So there was no question that the story was huge and, you know, all credit to my editors for having the courage to publish it where no one else would and all credit to my colleagues, particularly Emma Jo Morris, for actually digging down and getting the story out there. So look, there was no question in any of our minds that this was an enormous story that showed corruption at the very highest levels in Joe Biden's campaign. And we're talking about one of the two candidates for president, and we felt that it was important that the American people had [5:03] all the evidence at their disposal about the characters of both men, so that they could form an educated judgment about who to vote for, but unfortunately that wasn't possible because of the heavy-handed intervention of big tech. And so I think what changed for me there was just I knew that we were going to get a lot of pushback and criticism for publishing the story, particularly from the Biden campaign, which refused, remember at the time, to engage on this at all other than than to tell other media organisations that it wasn't true, that Joe Biden had never met with Hunter Biden's business partner from Ukraine in Washington, DC, as we had shown through this email or a couple of emails that he wasn't the big guy who was getting 10% from this Chinese business deal, et cetera. He swore blind that he knew nothing about his son Hunter's business dealings and that our stories were wrong. And of course, you know, with time that's just [6:07] proven to be completely wrong and even the New York Times and the Washington Post had to admit it. But I guess we knew we were going to come in for some stiff opposition. What we didn't anticipate was that Twitter and Facebook would shut us down within hours of the story going live. You know, this was an extraordinary intervention into the free press by these unaccountable oligopolies. And, you know, shortly after they did that to us, they said they threw the sitting president of the United States off their platforms. And that frightened even, you know, Emmanuel Macron in France, because world leaders were looking at this and saying, if these companies have the power to unseat, de-platform the leader of the free world, what else can they do? Absolutely. Could I ask about your, I mean, your journalistic background is substantial. I mean, Boston Herald, Daily Telegraph, The Sun, Sunday Times, and now with New York Post. Did, I mean, your experience as a journalist, did it not make you question going up against this subject, which is right at the heart of the, I guess, the American establishment? [7:33] What do you mean? Like not wanting to do it? I mean I would have thought that any journalist would want to do this story once that they had confirmed that it was real. I just, I don't see, you know, I wouldn't care if it was about Joe Biden or Donald Trump. I mean it's a really important story that goes to the heart of American national security. Here is a situation where Joe Biden has lied about his involvement in his family's influence peddling scheme that was running throughout his vice presidency and in fact he's run some form of influence peddling via his family for four decades out of Delaware. And so you know I think that's a really important story and it's just the sort of story that journalists are supposed to do without fear or favour. So I mean whether you have a lot of experience or a little experience. [8:30] I think it's just crystal clear that this is a bombshell story and that's why it's even more inexplicable that you know these news organisations like the New York Times with enormous resources, way more resources, way more investigative reporters than we have at the New your post. They really have done very little with this story. They ignored it initially. You can almost forgive them for ignoring it before the election because the stakes were so high. They didn't have the hard drive. They hadn't had the benefit that we had of the early, you know, the head start. But it took them then, I think, 19 months, the New York Times, to even acknowledge that this was a real laptop and that the material on it was legitimate and authentic and that it raised questions for Joe Biden is something that they just wouldn't tackle. [9:24] The New York Times published a story acknowledging that these emails were real, but it buried it in like the 23rd paragraph of the story on page A19, I think. And after that, then that was sort of the green light for the Washington Post and CNN and so on to follow up. But all of them had this boilerplate paragraph in their stories, there is no evidence this has anything to do with Joe Biden. There's so much evidence, ample evidence. That was our entire stories, everything I've ever reported from this laptop has been about Joe Biden. It's not about Hunter Biden, who is a poor, sad soul. You know, he was a crack addict throughout this. [10:08] You know, most of this nine year period that his laptop covers. You know, he had his personal life was in turmoil. Split from his wife, he was undergoing an acrimonious divorce. He had, despite the millions of dollars that was coming into his coffers from China and Russia and Ukraine and Kazakhstan and elsewhere around the world, he had serious money difficulties. He also seemed to have some sort of a sex addiction, judging from the amount of hookers that he was ordering online and sex cams and you know homemade porn etc. So this was a very troubled person and you know I feel sorry for him. I think that there is room for people to have some sympathy for this very troubled soul and wish him the best. He says now that he's clean and let's hope that that's the case. But where I think there is no sympathy and should be none is with regards to Joe Biden, Hunter Biden's father, who deputised his drug-addicted son to go and be the bag man for the family in these countries carrying the Biden name. [11:22] And reaping millions of dollars from America's adversaries. That is something that he has, it's unequivocal that he's lied about it. So what I think the Republicans in Congress are trying to do is nail down the money trail. They're doing a pretty good job of that now systematically. And also ask the questions about whether or not Joe Biden compromised America's national security and is now tailoring foreign policy because of this influence peddling scheme that was so lucrative for his family. At the beginning, I find myself actually chuckling, probably laughing a little bit, reading the first few chapters. You've got the interaction, and it is a dark comedy. It's tragic, with, I guess, Hunter playing this hapless villain, I guess, in it. [12:22] I don't know whether you meant to inject some of that dark humour or whether I was just being heartless reading it. I'm not sure, but yeah, let us know how you put that together because I found some of the interactions and the messages, you obviously have taken that from the laptop and put that down, and it was kind of comically sad, I guess. Yeah, I think that's a good way of describing it. It really is. You know, some of the situations that Hunter gets himself into are, you know, if they were in a movie, you would be laughing out loud. And it is a black comedy. He just is this sort of... He and his uncle Jim just bumble their way around the world and they're, you know, they're in palaces and sumptuous mansions of oligarchs and eating chicken feet in high-flying skyscrapers in private clubs of Chinese military people who are in the inner orbit of Xi Jinping. [13:29] Who end up then disappearing. You know, it seems I feel like with Hunter Biden that he's like one of those characters in a sort of cops and robbers blow him up movie where the main character just, you know, all around him there are cars blowing up and buildings on fire and he just walks through the smoke and emerges unscathed. And all around him everyone was going to jail, getting killed, getting locked up, you know, getting into all sorts of trouble, and he just seemed to emerge unscathed. [14:07] You know, there's a lot of speculation people I've talked to in, who know about, you know, intelligence services and how they operate, who would say to me that there's no way that the son of the Vice President mixing in those circles that he was in the inner sanctum of Xi Jinping in China and Vladimir Putin in Russia, going, you know, to Lake Como to mingle with oligarchs and and Hong Kong and Shanghai, I mean, Monte Carlo. [14:39] This is the most incredible international story of intrigue and mystery and danger. And that there's no way that the US intelligence services would not have been keeping an eye on Hunter. And it did feel like he had a guardian angel. Every time he was in a scrape about to come unstuck, suddenly he's okay, he's back stateside and everything's hunky-dory and he's ordering [15:06] crack from his dealer again and meanwhile off the laptop goes, you know, the super chairman or someone else, you know, that maybe he's been warned off, you know, don't mix with that person that's going to get you into trouble. I don't really know what went on behind the scenes but we also know he had various contacts in the FBI. So that's a whole new story I think that will be unraveled potentially by another committee the Republicans have set up which is the weaponization of the federal government which is looking, among other things, looking at how the FBI covered up the story of the laptop. Yeah, completely. This is the laptop from hell with [15:50] A hunter looking quite rugged there with a cigarette. Many images of him, but some of the stories you put through the book are of him being, as you said, being rescued by Secret Service, I guess. Especially at times where he shouldn't have had protection. There was no reason for him to have that protection, and yet they seem to be there to help him out of different situations he find himself in? Yeah, look, there could be a couple of reasons for that. There are some invoices on the laptop that show that a couple of these former Secret Service people, including a very high-ranking guy who had been the head of the Vice President's Secret Service detail when Joe Biden was in office, and they actually had gone into private practice and Hunter Biden and his brother Jim Biden had hired them to go and do some due diligence on some of, [16:53] for prospective business partners and so there was an invoice for a few hundred dollars or a few thousand dollars that hadn't been paid. This is why it sort of came to the attention or came to my attention because there were various emails going backwards and forwards between Jim and Hunter about who should pay this money. I mean it was it was months and months overdue which was not uncommon. There are a lot of bills including with Joe Biden that seem just not to get paid or to be very, very late being paid. And I'm told by some people in Wilmington, Delaware, where Joe Biden lives, that a lot of the local tradesmen just don't get paid. There seems to be this sort of expectation from the Bidens that it's such an honour to do work for them that you shouldn't expect to get any money for it. But that's one reason. And then, you know, another reason is, I think, we know that there was one scandal where Hunter Biden's lover at the time, Hallie Biden, who was actually the widow of his late brother, Beau, they were living together off and on. They had a very volatile relationship. And for reasons we still don't know, Hunter decided to buy a gun at a store in Delaware. [18:11] And shortly after he bought it, Hallie seemed to get worried about what he might do with it. And so she drove it to the local shopping centre and threw it in a garbage bin, a trash can. And then she tells Hunter, or Hunter looks for his gun, he can't find it, and she says, oh, I threw it in the trash can. So he says, go back and get it. She goes back, it's gone. A homeless guy's found it. [18:34] So then the cops have to come. And it's not just the local cops, it's the state police, it's the FBI. And what's really quite sinister is that two men who said they were from the Secret Service flashed a Secret Service badge, went to the gun shop and demanded the papers, the background check papers, the paperwork that Hunter had filled out to do with the gun, which of course if he took that away there's no proof that he ever bought the gun and so to his credit the gun shop owner said no I can't do that because he's worried that he's going to lose his license if something terrible happens with that gun. But you know when we ask the secret service why did you do that, Hunter Biden was not under secret service protection, his father was out of office, etc. The secret services, we did have nothing to do with that, that wasn't us. So maybe it was ex-secret service people presenting themselves as secret service. I'm told that the former secret service agents still have a badge, it's a different type, but a smaller badge than the real one but I guess how would you know the layperson and so maybe these are former Secret Service people. We do know one other thing which is that Joe Biden... [19:52] But we know this from the laptop too. Joe Biden really sucked up and curried favour with the Secret Service people around him. He, you know, in his... Before he became a sort of defund the police guy, he...now he's back to his original persona, which was as a, you know, as a working-class Joe who's all for the cops. And so he had support from police unions and so on previously, not in the 2020 election, but he did things, Hunter tells us in various emails, like he would [20:32] get Secret Service agents, kids into elite colleges that they wouldn't be able to get into otherwise, or do other favours that they're not really bribery because it's not really cash, But it's just favour trading, which is what Joe Biden specialises in, using his power to, get things happening for people who otherwise wouldn't be able to avail themselves of that, those kind of perks. So, and then we also know that the guy who was the head of his Secret Service detail, his, one of his parents died, I think it was his father died somewhere in the Midwest. And Joe and Jill Biden flew on Air Force Two to that funeral. And so, you know, that kind of gesture really engenders a lot of loyalty in people, particularly people who are in service jobs. And so I think, you know, it was probably a combination of maybe paying people to look after you, but also just vestigial loyalty to Joe Biden. [21:40] There's another thing that keeps coming up and it's the amount of money. And I had no idea until I was going to it. Eva just at the beginning, the first couple of pages you talk about. [21:54] Talk about one overcast day, Hunter's catching up on porn, he spent $1,000 on his Wells Fargo debit card. Annoyingly, Wells Fargo keeps sending alerts. He's tripping his card limit of $65,000. You then talk about him getting invoices of 82,500 retainers from international business development. Then he says, he talks about his balance shows 1 million, but there's a debit of 2 million. I mean, they're crazy sums of money to any average person reading this. I mean, tell us about that. I guess the greed involved. Yeah, and the chaotic lifestyle that Hunter had, I mean, there were millions of dollars coming in. [22:41] But, you know, I think his alimony was 30 or 40 thousand dollars a month. He had this heavy crack addict habit. He had various households that, I mean, there was his, Hallie Biden's family that he presumably, I mean I know that they shared a credit card and they were running up $250,000 a year on one Amex and they put everything, you know, all their kind of working, living expenses seemed to go on the Amex. He had very lavish tastes in clothes, like his father, he would go to, you know men's boutiques in midtown Manhattan or on Madison Avenue and think nothing of spending, you know, five grand, ten grand here on a coat, on a jacket or, you know, a tie. [23:33] And so he just spent like he was the big spender, but he always seemed to have money problems. And I think part of that was because the money that was coming in wasn't all for him. And I'll give you a perfect example. And this is just from the very new bank records that were [23:58] put out the other day by James Comer, the head of the Oversight Committee, the Republicans who were looking into the money trail of the Biden's. So he's found, we already knew that there were these two, three million dollar payments from the Chinese energy company that paid the Biden's millions of dollars, but these two, three million dollar wires went to Hunter's business partner in in Arkansas, a guy called Rob Walker. And so we always knew that that money was destined for Hunter, but we never could see how it made its way there. And so what James Comer has found, at least with one of these $3 million wires, he's only been able to find one, that $1 million went to the Biden family, 1,065,000. And it was split up between four Biden's. So there was Hunter Biden, his uncle Jim Biden, who's Joe's younger brother, Hallie Biden, who I told you that sister-in-law turned lover, and then another fourth unnamed Biden. It's just on the wire, it just says Biden. And so, and these payments were made over three months in small dribs and drabs. [25:13] Presumably to keep them away from authorities. Didn't work because the reason we know about them is that the banks, it tripped some suspicion in the banks automatically and so they had to file suspicious activity reports with the Treasury. So we know from that $1 million, Hunter got about a third of it, I think [25:37] From that money, you know, so there's three million and he's getting about 400,000. And so he's told his business partners that $800,000 a year is not enough for him to live. So really he was burning through cash and what would have seemed, you know, to any normal person, a huge amount of money to him was barely enough. And then remember, he, it was supposed to pay tax on this money. And obviously he was not good at paying his taxes because this is one of the issues that the IRS and the US Attorney in Delaware is looking at him for is tax evasion, alleged tax evasion, alleged money laundering and foreign agent violations to do with his foreign businesses. And we know that he's paid back, I'm told $2.8 million to the IRS. So that means, you know, he earned five and a half million to owe that. And, you know, he earned a lot more than that, we know. [26:43] But, and also, I mean, maybe he's having to pay tax for money that he never received that went to other members of the family, you know? So he does feel sorry for himself a lot in the laptop and he talks about giving half his money to his father. Bitterly he complains about that. And he bitterly complains about having carried or supported the rest of the family all the time. And this is a guy that wanted to be an artist or an author. [27:13] And instead he was put to work straight out of Yale, that his father got him into Yale Law School, pulling some strings. So he gets straight out of Yale and goes into this inflated salary job for for one of his father's, you know, donors in Delaware, but boring job. And that's been his life, doing a series of boring jobs and inflated salaries, getting, you know, various sinecures and, you know, like the Ukraine Burisma board appointment for a million dollars a year, a huge amounts of money. But he's got to share that with the rest of the family. So you see him spiral down into addiction and chaos. And he's bitter and angry all the way, and particularly when it comes to that period when he abandoned his laptop in Delaware at that laptop repair shop. He's really in a rage at that time and feels that his family doesn't respect him and doesn't appreciate all he's done for them. Obviously Joe Biden is the figure that's behind a lot of it and one of the quotes is Don't worry about investors, Jim Biden would say, according to an unnamed executive quoted by Politico. We've got people all around the world who want to invest in Joe Biden. None of what happened to Hunter, I guess, was because of Hunter's brilliance. It was all to do with his father. [28:42] Oh, absolutely. And, you know, this is influence peddling. I mean, this is a a Washington DC wide disease and it's bipartisan. Both sides do it. How many, you know, look at Nancy Pelosi. I mean, look at so many of these Republican and Democratic politicians who go to Washington and become very rich by the time they leave. It's really unseemly and disgusting. Joe Biden lives an incredibly lavish lifestyle And it would be impossible to sustain that on a senator's salary for 40 years plus. So I think it's been out there in plain sight and it's a terrible thing. Washington is very corrupt and I'm not sure that there's appetite on either side to clean it up. [29:41] What's special about Joe Biden is, for one thing, he's really the master of influence peddling through his family. And secondly, as vice president and now as president, he is crucial to our national security because as vice president, Barack Obama deputized him to be his man in charge of China and Ukraine and various other parts of the world. And Joe Biden was given some very important tasks when it came to China. He was supposed to stop China militarising the South China Sea and threatening America's allies there. And he was supposed to stop China from stealing America's intellectual property. I mean, this was 2013. This was a time when China was really ramping up its aggressive tactics. And it could have been nipped in the bud there and then. [30:45] But Joe Biden did nothing. He got nothing out of it. All that happened was his family was bought off. And when Hunter Biden flew into Beijing on Air Force Two with the vice president, it was crystal clear to the Chinese what that meant. This was a princeling. Hunter Biden was a princeling like the princelings in China who are related to the top CCP officials. And this was American power come to do private business and private business happened. Joe Biden shook the hand of Hunter's now new business partner, and Hunter left and within a few days, he had 10% stake in a Chinese business which had two and a half billion dollars funds under management at one point. I mean it doesn't mean he had 10% of 2.5 billion but he had 10% of whatever the profits were. We still don't know how much that's worth. It's been estimated, I think Peter Schweitzer estimated it at 20 million [31:48] dollars, could be less, could be more. Hunter Biden's lawyers keep vaguely saying he's divested himself of that fund, but there's no actual evidence of that. It's still listed on the Chinese stock exchange websites as being owned, 10% owned, by Hunter Biden's company, and Hunter Biden still owns that company, Skinny Atlas, even though he hasn't, I mean, it's gone dormant, I think, because he probably hasn't paid some bills. So, I think that's the kind of thing you know, it's pretty worrying that the son of the President, if he still owns that 10%, is in business with the Chinese Communist Party. And all we get from the White House and from Joe Biden is lies and stonewalling. So that's why this is an important story. It's not about Hunter Biden. I wish him the best. It's about the President and whether he's compromised. And and that's why the Republicans are going down this path of trying to find where the money went. [32:52] One of the chapters, The Delaware Way, I guess, looks at what Joe Biden has done, how he has built up that influence over, what, 35 years as a senator, and has taken that influence, that peddling, global, I guess, with the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan. I mean, what do you mean by The Delaware Way? Well that was a phrase that was coined by a prosecutor actually many moons ago, I can't remember what it was, the 80s or the 90s I think, and they were investigating some irregularities with one of Joe Biden's re-election campaigns and there was a family called Tagani, there were a wealthy beer brewing family from the area, a young guy called Chris Tagani about the age of Joe's sons and he was sort of turned witness for the prosecutors, wore a wire to try and [33:54] see if the Biden's were doing illegal things to do with, you know, funding the Joe's campaign. Well, turned out that he didn't manage to find anything and he went to jail. But during the prosecution, one of the prosecutors described this sort of cosy quid pro quo relationship that goes on in Delaware politics as the Delaware way. It's you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. And there's something really insidious about Delaware. It's a very small state, doesn't have much in the way of an economy apart from the fact that it is the headquarters for practically every corporate in the country, because it's kind of described as the Virgin Islands of America because it has a very opaque, that sort of corporate structure and you can't see who owns companies and so on. So it makes it very easy for the Biden's to sort of hide [34:53] money but more importantly what it did for Joe Biden when he arrived as a 30 year old senator was he was being oppressed by a lot of very powerful, very wealthy people to do favours for them in the Senate and as he became more and more powerful in the Senate he was chairman of two very powerful committees, the Judiciary Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee for many years, those favours became bigger and bigger and his power grew and he was really king of the castle in Delaware and despite really, the state not amounting to very much, he was in this unique position. And so that was why when his donors, you know, were offering to buy houses from him or sell houses to him, or give his family jobs and inflated salaries, that was all of great benefit to him. And in return, you can see policies that he was pushing that seemed to benefit his donors. But whether or not you can really draw the line and accuse him of a crime is a whole other matter. But certainly that's the Delaware way. [36:08] What about you personally as you delved into this? You come face to face with Hunter Biden, a tragic story, and then Joe Biden, absolute power, corruption. What was your takeaway from going into this? Because I guess when you begin to research something, you don't know where it's going to lead. So what were your kind of takeaway thoughts as you did the research and you put the book together? Well it was just so much bigger than I had ever imagined. I mean I remember there was one night I just pushed myself away from the desk and had to and clear my head because I could not believe what I discovered. And it's not just from the laptop, you have to understand that this is also material from Tony Bobulinski, who's Hunter Biden's former business partner. It's, you know, had the contents of his three devices that he'd given to the FBI. It's also a lot of financial records that came from [37:11] Chuck Graslie and Ron Johnson, the two Republican senators who were very prescient back in mid-2020, they were investigating Hunter Biden's role in Burisma. Their report was, I think, Hunter Biden, Burisma and corruption. And that was the Ukrainian company that was paying him $83,000 a month for, basically nothing. And so they had a lot of treasury records. And also speaking to, to various sources off the record. You piece together this jigsaw puzzle and when I realized just how enormous the China deals were, there's one deal where Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin [37:59] get together and this company, CEFC, that was paying Hunter and Jim Biden millions of dollars, their partner in China was brokering this deal for China to buy a $9 billion chunk of the Russia state-owned oil company, energy company, Rosneft. And this would have shifted the geopolitical tectonic plates in a way that was very detrimental to the United States. I mean, it's along the lines of what's happening now with Russia and China getting into bed over Ukraine, but this is on energy. And really a very damaging thing that Joe Biden's son and brother were part of. They were helping broker it. [38:50] And they would have profited from it. So it's incredible that the whole thing fell apart when the Trump administration now had come into office. And for whatever reason, the FBI arrested one of Hunter Biden's Chinese business partners from this company, CEFC at JFK. And this is a case where we're now told by, this is a whole another weird part of the story that's just happened in the last couple of weeks, but there's a, an Israeli scientist, but also former high ranking officer in the Israeli defence forces, who has just been arrested in Cyprus a few weeks ago, on suspicion of gun running charges and is about to be extradited back to the United States and he's still in jail. But I've talked to his lawyer. His lawyer says that Hunter Biden had a mole, an FBI mole called One Eye, who tipped off his Chinese partners from CFC that the FBI was investigating them. And sure enough, I mean, there's some evidence on the laptop that corroborates part of his story. And part of that is that [40:08] just shortly before Patrick Ho was arrested at JFK by the FBI in 2017, Hunter was invited to the palatial penthouse in Manhattan of the boss of CEFC, a guy called Chairman Yee, and offered $1 million to be his legal counsel in case he got into any trouble. And then Chairman Yee skedaddled it back to Shanghai and according to this Israeli, told Patrick Ho that the coast was clear for him to come back to New York. And as soon as Patrick Ho arrives in New York, he gets arrested on bribery charges. And what the Israeli says is that Patrick Ho was the fall guy. He was sort of the sacrificial lamb to the FBI. [41:00] And so, there again, we come back full circle to what we were first talking about, Hunter Biden having protection from the FBI, the Secret Service. He certainly had connections at the FBI. We do know that because after Patrick Ho was arrested, there's an email showing that he'd contacted his FBI sources about how to help Patrick Ho. To finish, the book has been out a year. What has been the response? And also the second part, how does that fit into a Republican-controlled Congress? Because you've given them a manuscript, you've said here is the evidence in a 200-page book, you can now run with this. So what was the response coming out a year ago and how can it be used by, I guess, the Republicans now in charge of the House. [41:57] Well, it's been an amazing bestseller. I mean, it just keeps on selling even today. It's still in hardcover and, you know, it was on the list apart from, of course, the New York Times. And so I think, you know, the reviews on Amazon from regular people have been good. I mean, I think it's like 4.6 out of 5 and 10,000 reviews. And the feedback I get is that people appreciate it because it's such a complicated story and this is sort of putting it into narrative form. James Comer has told me, who's the head of the oversight committee, that he loved it, he read it. I think it's just useful in terms of just itemizing what's important on the laptop. There's a lot of extraneous material And I think a mistake that a lot of people have made is to get caught up on the sort of sex and drugs and rock and roll part of it. There's no crimes there. It's sad. It's dysfunctional. But it's irrelevant. It's just gossip. What's important is the financial and international [43:13] schemes that the Biden family was involved in. Excuse me. No, absolutely. Well, to the viewers and listeners, you can get it. It is available hardback, it is available paperback, it is available audiobook, and also on Kindle. I personally like getting a paper copy so I can make notes. It's not paperback yet, unfortunately. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. Yeah, but it's still hardcover, ebook, and Kindle. I warn the viewers that actually often I read books for interviewing and sometimes you find them too intriguing and this was one of those that actually I ended up marking far too much in the book that there's so much information. But Miranda, thank you for coming on and sharing about the experience of putting that together and sharing the story. Thank you so much. Thanks Peter, great to talk to you. Thank you so much.
Happening today (offically offically) — “Haley enters the fray, a female candidate against a man known for mocking them,” by Natalie Allison in Charleston, S.C.: “Stepping out ahead of a field of men who spent the better part of two years mulling and flirting with a 2024 run, Nikki Haley marked her entrance into the Republican presidential primary with an announcement video and a formal event on Wednesday. And tonight, VP Kamala Harris will board Air Force Two for the Munich Security Conference, the annual confab of global political, defense and intelligence leaders. It stands to be the most critical foreign trip of her vice presidency — at least since last year's trip to Bavaria. Plus, Sen. Brent Bozell says the fundamental difference between Left wingers today and the party of 10 years ago is these are anti-Americans. When you swear your allegiance to BLM, you pledge your allegiance to a group headed by self-proclaimed Marxists who have nothing but disdain for America. These Marxist Dems are trying to indoctrinate a whole generation into believing their country is evil. Everyone runs for Congress talking the language of Andy Biggs and Matt Gaetz but once elected, they walk into the Chamber and it's the middle finger to those who elected them. The Gang of 20 said no more and they deserve national applause. The idea that the son of a VP travels on Air Force Two with his father to foreign governments and cuts deals with them while his father is negotiating with them is so unethical and illegal. When we get to the bottom of this, we're going to find a level of corruption that boggles the mind. Bozell says the Biden scandal goes even deeper than everyone's speculating. Getting to the bottom will be dirty, ugly and painful but it's the only way to save this country. GUEST: BRENT BOZELL, MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER

In today's show, I continue to look at how the Biden Administration willfully sent part of our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China. Why would we allow that to happen? What is it about China and this President where he seems beholden to them? We know there are over 150 financial transactions from Hunter Biden's business dealings, which have been flagged on Suspicious Activity Reports. CBS's Catherine Herridge reports that the Treasury is stonewalling an investigation into this very matter. It seems Biden and his Crime Family are doing all they can to avoid having their activities investigated. Now, let's play connect the dots and remind you Hunter flew with his dad on Air Force Two on a trip to China. On that trip, Joe met with some of Hunter's contacts in the energy sector. Within weeks, a deal was signed and we know from emails that 10% of that deal was meant for the “Big Guy.” Isn't it now reasonable to ask what China may have on the Biden Crime Family that may have helped steer some of our strategic reserves to be sent to them? And while this White House and administration continues to convince themselves they have the right policies, fellow Democrats are finally voicing their outrage over them. Fellow Leftists are now openly saying Joe Biden has no plan and there in no hope. A review of personnel turnover records now shows the Biden administration lost 15% of its people in the first year. By way of comparison, the Obama presidency lost 4% in it's first year and Trump only lost 1%. People in the party, on the Left and even in the White House are fed up with the aimless rudder and feckless policies. In the meantime, the NYTimes writes a hit-piece on newly elected Mayra Flores entitled, “The Rise of the Far-Right Latina.” It's astounding to see such a lack of self-awareness. According to the Times, a woman who ran on the bases of family, hard work and patriotic values is the measuring stick for what makes you on the radical fringe. To them, it's outlandish to elect someone with such radical views as revering family, hard work and patriotism. By the way, this same NYTimes praised the election of AOC, who ran as a socialist. To the NYTImes, socialism isn't far-left, but being a patriotic American, well, that's just too extreme for their comfort. State Attorney General Eric Rinehart from Illinois, praised his own states red-flag laws and gun laws and suggests they need to be implemented nationwide. Those same laws did not stop the shooter from killing 7 on Independence Day, but he swears they work nonetheless. And finally, Biden's DOJ is suing the state of Arizona over their election integrity law. You see, in Arizona, you have to show ID, be an American citizen and still be alive to have your vote count and this White House cannot allow that. Thankfully, Governor Doug Ducey says, “Bring it on, we'll see you in court!” Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. A Republican prosecutor could decide whether there is sufficient evidence to indict Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, on a growing list of potential charges. Investigations are pointing to alleged tax fraud, money laundering, violation of lobbying laws, and potentially others. Emerging evidence is showing potential ties between the dealings of Hunter Biden and his father. During a 2013 trip, he took a trip on Air Force Two alongside Joe Biden, when Hunter was trying to set up a Chinese private equity fund. NBC News reports that during the trip, Hunter introduced his father to his Chinese business partner, and Hunter received his business license in China soon after. In this live Q&A with Crossroads host Joshua Philipp, we'll be inviting special guest Natalie Winters, an investigative reporter at National Pulse, to discuss these stories and others, and answer questions from the audience.
In today's episode, we look at 12 specific and documented instances where Joe Biden had knowledge of or interactions with Hunter Biden's business associates or dealings. While President Joe Biden, Press Secretary Jen Psaki and much of the mainstream media continue to work on convincing us there was no shared information, it's just impossible to believe. Some of those interactions occurred when Joe Biden was asked to write letters of recommendation on behalf of a Chinese partner to help them get into American universities. That same partner, Jonathan Li, also met Joe Biden and Hunter when they flew on Air Force Two to China. It's remarkable that Joe Biden says he never met any of Hunter's associates, isn't it. What about when Hunter Biden said his dad cautioned him about joining the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings for $83,333 a month? He said Joe Biden said, “I hope you know what you are doing,” to which Hunter replied, “I hope so.” Yet, Joe was unaware of any of Hunter's business dealings. Multiple photographs show Joe and Hunter Biden with several of Hunter's business associates and partners over the years, including those from China, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Are we to believe Joe Biden never inquired about who those people were and why they were playing golf, eating dinner or shaking hands? Seems a bit of a stretch, doesn't it? Then there is Hunter's former partner, Tony Bobulinski who revealed he spoke directly to Joe Biden in May of 2017 when he was introduced by Hunter. Bobulinski was described by Hunter as, “the one who's helping us with the business we're doing with the Chinese.” So, while Joe Biden is trying to convince you he never met any of Hunter's business partners, Bobulinski specifically recalls being told by Joe Biden, “Keep and eye on my son and brother and look out for my family.” Maybe Joe was worried, being “The Big Guy” that he wasn't going to get his 10% share of the deal with CEFC China Energy. We learned that Hunter wanted keys made for him, Joe, Jill and James Biden for a shared office that Press Secretary Jen Psaki denied vehemently when asked. She twice said that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden were never office mates. I guess Hunter was asking for keys for those people in his family just in case they wanted one? Finally, in an email to the son of Mexican billionaire Miguel Aleman Velasco, Hunter laments he hadn't received any reciprocal business favors saying, “I have brought every single person you have ever asked mt to bring to the F'ing White House and the Vice President's house and the inauguration.” Hunter Biden was obviously peddling access to his father and no matter how hard Joe Biden tries to deny it, with the help of the willing legacy media, there are too many emails, documents, photographs and personal accounts to overcome. It's only a matter of time before the spin doctors realize, it's spinning out of control. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. In today's episode, I open by looking at the problem President Joe Biden is making for his staff and the media when he continues to speak in absolutes about his son, Hunter's, problems. By continuing to say his son has done “nothing” wrong and that he has “never” spoke with his son about business dealings is demonstrably false. What's interesting about the life-cycle of the Hunter Biden laptop story is how the media invested so much of it's time convincing the American people it was a Russian disinformation operation. Now that they are admitting it is a real story, they are desperately trying to convince us that even if Hunter did something wrong, the President was unaware. They are trying to insulate the President from what is going to be an onslaught of criminal charges. However, in light of the numerous business trips, including one on Air Force Two, where Joe and Hunter Biden are seen mingling with various foreign investors, it's impossible to believe Joe Biden is telling us the truth. And, the more he speaks in absolutes, the harder it is for the press to spin it effectively. That's part of the problem of this entire Administration. They are proving to be the most out of touch with reality Administration in our nation's history. They are waging war on the fossil fuel industry while demanding we all buy electric vehicles. We have a massive problem at the southern border, but they want to spend time teaching the border patrol to use the correct pronouns. Inflation is at a 40 year high and they want to blame all of it on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They are so caught up in the woke agenda, they cannot even see how every policy of theirs is at the root of every problem we are facing today. This is also seen in that part of the Administration we know as public health. The CDC and the NIH are so blinded to facts and science that it goes beyond belief. Between Dr. Rochelle Walensky making up facts as she goes along to Dr. Fauci forgetting he once said natural infection was the best form of immunization, it's a wonder they both are still employed. But, when they are surrounded by teams of people equally out-of-touch with reality, I guess they are allowed to keep collecting paychecks for their deception. We have to hope that after the November elections, we will have representatives in place who are committed to rooting out those individuals from their cushy public jobs. We need policies implemented to make sure science is no longer politicized like we've seen over the past few years. In this episode, White House Communications Agency Hall of Famer, Darrell Williams, shares leadership insights gathered while working in the White House during the George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush administrations. The White House Communications Agency provides assured global information services to the President, Vice President, and others as directed, ensuring the White House is able to communicate with anyone, under any condition. Darrell Williams was determined to be one of the best to ever serve there. Listen in as Darrell talks about how in moments of crisis or great difficulty (like the aftermath of 9/11), your team members need to know that you care about them before you ask them to do anything. Once you have established your concern for their wellbeing, people will be ready to take on the toughest tasks. That's the “people always” part of the equation. Important missions bring stress. It's the nature of the job. In order to manage the stress, trust your training (i.e., Do what you've been trained to do in those situations), always plan for contingencies, and be willing to find out-of-the-box solutions. Take ownership of the issue and take initiative to find a solution. When mistakes happen–and they inevitably will–empower people to take action and find a solution, make decisions, and move forward. The need to complete the mission does not change because something went wrong. If it's someone else's mistake, show grace when you can (i.e., don't seek to embarrass or make an example of the mistake) and make the experience an opportunity for them to learn. Highlight the learning and the creative solutions that were discovered. Advice for success: Find a need (in your organization, family, community). Address the need using your talents and strengths. Repeat as long as there are needs in the world (you'll never run out of opportunities). You'll feel better about yourself, make a difference in people's lives, and learn along the way. Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur think passing out cookies with Kamala's face on them to the press corps on Air Force Two flying to Guatemala was a really dumb idea. Who does that? The sad truth is it shows how “shallow” and “narcissistic” our Vice President really is.
CNN has reinstated Jeffrey Toobin as their Chief Legal Analyst after his suspension for exposing himself during a Zoom meeting last October. And the irony of being the “Chief Legal Analyst” who committed a sexual act, broadcast live on Zoom…. WOW! Furthermore, for CNN to return Toobin to broadcast says volumes about the questionable value structure of CNN and its Executives. Surely there is another lawyer who could have done that job! Why does the Left, especially the Media, look the other way when it involves Democrats committing sex crimes — with actual proof it happened? They are absolutely intolerant of conservatives for TOTALLY MADE UP FALSEHOODS, including former President Trump!Joe Biden told members of the US Air Force stationed in England that he keeps forgetting he is President. And the reason might be because Jill Biden thinks she is President as evidenced by a photo of her at the Air Force One Presidential Desk supposedly prepping for the G-7 Summit in Europe. Our American Mamas, Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur, think passing out cookies with Kamala's face on them to the press corps on Air Force Two to Guatemala was a really dumb idea. They do it to mask the truth and to draw public support they would never get otherwise.Catching up to much of the American public's “Common Sense” point of view, in April, 2021, the CDC finally said you don't have to wear a mask outside in public any more if you have had your vaccines. So why are people still wearing masks in their cars? Outside in the great outdoors? Ami Horowitz interviewed people on the New York City streets about why they were still wearing masks outside after being vaccinated. He found three basic reasons: “Social pressure, extreme and irrational fear, and a middle finger to the people who didn't want to wear masks.”Rep. Ilhan Omar declared, “We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban,” to which 12 Democrat Jewish Congressional members responded with their own statement, saying “…equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided.” Tensions within the Congressional Democrats were not helped with this exchange.

Tragedy strikes America when Air Force Two, the vice president's plane, goes missing somewhere over the Pacific. President Peter Stewart wants answers. How could this have happened? Furthermore, if it happened to Air Force Two, who to say an attack on Air Force One won't happen during the president's trip to Asia? Special Agent Michael Forbes has sworn to keep the president safe. With the country on high alert, Michael must keep his eyes open for any incoming threats, especially when the president plans to attend Korean reunification talks in South Korea's capital city of Seoul. There are those in the region who hope to keep North and South Korea decidedly separate. Japan feels threatened by the possibility of a united Korea. The industrial might of one Korea could have devastating results on Japan's economy, and government leaders are willing to do anything to maintain the status quo even kill. They have agents in Seoul, but they aren't prepared for Michael Forbes, who will stop at nothing to protect the president, preserve peace, and put violent terrorists in their place. For Your Listening Pleasure for these Lockdown / Stay-At-Home COVID and Variants Times - For all the radio shows available on The 'X' Zone Broadcast Network visit - https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv.Our radio shows archives and programming include: A Different Perspective with Kevin Randle; Alien Cosmic Expo Lecture Series; Alien Worlds Radio Show; America's Soul Doctor with Ken Unger; Back in Control Radio Show with Dr. David Hanscom, MD; Connecting with Coincidence with Dr. Bernard Beitman, MD; Dick Tracy; Dimension X; Exploring Tomorrow Radio Show; Flash Gordon; Imagine More Success Radio Show with Syndee Hendricks and Thomas Hydes; Jet Jungle Radio Show; Journey Into Space; Know the Name with Sharon Lynn Wyeth; Lux Radio Theatre - Classic Old Time Radio; Mission Evolution with Gwilda Wiyaka; Paranormal StakeOut with Larry Lawson; Ray Bradbury - Tales Of The Bizarre; Sci Fi Radio Show; Seek Reality with Roberta Grimes; Space Patrol; Stairway to Heaven with Gwilda Wiyaka; The 'X' Zone Radio Show with Rob McConnell; Two Good To Be True with Justina Marsh and Peter Marsh; and many other! That's The ‘X' Zone Broadcast Network Shows and Archives - https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv
By Chris Nichols Republican lawmakers are claiming a large percentage of migrants at crowded southern border facilities are testing positive for COVID-19. CapRadio’s PolitiFact California reporter Chris Nichols spoke with afternoon anchor Mike Hagerty about that and other claims in this week’s Can You Handle The Truth segment. This interview has been edited for clarity and length. Interview Highlights On what is happening at the southern border In recent months, there’s been a really big wave of migration. Border patrol agents have recorded more than half a million encounters with migrants since October. That’s nearly three times as many in the same period a year earlier. So, conditions are very crowded at border detention centers, and some Republican members of Congress are claiming that crowding is leading to the rapid spread of COVID-19. Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma recently visited a border detention center in Donna, Texas and posted a video on Twitter with some claims: “We have a large percentage of folks here that are COVID positive,” Lankford said. “But they’re not tested here for several days. So, they’re literally spreading it all around. And they’re released into HHS custody and into the rest of the country.” On the veracity of those claims PolitiFact found there is no definitive answer available since there are different categories of migrants being tested at different times and by varying groups across the border. But back in March, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency told lawmakers that the positivity rates for people coming across the border at the time was less than 6%. For some comparison, the average positivity rate in Texas was above 7% at that time. On testing migrants for COVID-19 and who is doing it Immigration authorities said they are working with state and local authorities and non-governmental groups to make sure that all migrants are tested “at some point during their immigration journey.” Federal health officials say that the many unaccompanied minors who have arrived are tested every three days — those who test positive are isolated from the rest. Customs and Border Protection personnel do initial checks for symptoms, and they consult with onsite medical staff. People who are presumed to be sick are sent to local health systems for testing, diagnosis and treatment, according to immigration officials. Cities, counties and nonprofits handle the vast majority of the testing and any subsequent isolation. On the work of nonprofit groups One example of what nonprofits do is the Jewish Family Service of San Diego. They help asylum-seekers reunite with their families in California and around the country. They told PolitiFact that many of these people who have had to remain in Mexico are being tested for COVID-19 in that country. Then they are tested again in the United States and remain in hotel rooms while awaiting results. On the claim that Vice President Kamala Harris broke protocol after boarding Air Force Two and did not return salutes to members of the military honor guard PolitiFact found that while presidents and vice presidents saluting the military personnel is a familiar sight, it’s not part of any official protocol or regulation. Ronald Reagan was the first president to do this, but before then, even military veterans such as Dwight Eisenhower did not do this while president.

She was bound for Holyhead and went down just outside Dublin Bay. Over 500 people perished, mostly military personnel returning from leave – it was the greatest single loss of life in the Irish Sea. 11 October 1969 - Death of Louise Gavan Duffy, revolutionary, who founded Scoil Bhride, (Scull Bray School), the first all-Irish school for girls, in Dublin. 15 October 1945 - Death of Eoin Mac Neill, scholar and patriot, who co-founded the Gaelic League and was the Irish Volunteers Chief of Staff. Moving to the present: What’s the News, What’s the News? What’s the top news we have to talk about today: Guess what? This podcast is now available on iTunes! Subscribe, and listen to any of the podcasts, any time you wish. Did you pick up the October issue yet? Our cover features The Mighty Sweeney Clan, a legacy of public service four generations deep, from today’s State Senator Bride Sweeney, turning heads and drilling down to the things that really matter to her constituents, and then getting them done; to her father, former Cleveland City Councilman and State Senator Martin Sweeney; Marty’s sister, Fairview Park Councilwoman Maureen Sweeney; their father, retired Judge Gerald Sweeney, and Gerry’s father, a State Representative in West Park, when the State Representative went by county. We include a nice Inner View profile of Bride inside. Speaking of Bride, our State Representative responded to a federal court’s last Saturday order requiring the Ohio Secretary of State to explain himself on why he has not allowed Cuyahoga County’s Board of Elections to move forward with its bipartisan unanimous plan to offer ballot drop off services at six library locations. A state appeals court late on Friday ruled that the law allows the secretary to install more drop boxes if he chooses, but the court declined to require him to do so. Also last week, the governor of Texas copied Ohio and ordered all drop box sites closed except for one in each county. Said Rep. Sweeney: “I am sad to see the residents of major American cities – like my hometown of Cleveland and now Houston and Dallas – used as pawns in a national GOP plan to cut off voting access. First, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose limited drop boxes to one per county and ordered Cuyahoga County to halt its unanimous bipartisan plan to accept ballots at six satellite locations. Now, the Texas GOP is following his lead and closing satellite ballot drop-off sites. Thankfully, a federal court is demanding answers here in Ohio. I hope Texans, like Ohioans, will make their voices heard and vote no matter what!” Representative Sweeney is a member of the House Democratic Caucus’ Elections Working Group assembled by Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (of Akron) at the onset of the pandemic to deal with its impact on voters and voting rights. Rep. Sweeney is the youngest elected Democrat in the Ohio House and the first woman to represent her district in the chamber. In an update that went out Wednesday, additional boxes are permitted, at libraries, so we’ll be watching that closely. The Election is only 24 Days away. One way to choose a candidate is to vote, in person. Do Absentee, or mail-in, like I do. Even tho the date to register to vote in has gone back and forth, at this point, it has now passed. We have only until the end of this month to complete the Census. It is VITALLY important – why? For many reasons, including the mapping of the area a representative represents. Of course, the goal is to reduce gerrymandering – any honest person with ethics wants that, THAT’S a given. No rigging of the districts to favor one party over another. It is part of the reason that I am an independent; I vote people, and performance, not party. But the number of people in a district dictate how much money that district gets. Every person that district represents is equal to $1200 in money for that district. If you want to be an influencer, you must be counted. Complete the Census to make a difference right in your own community. Visit 2020Census.gov. I did mine when the Census first began, and Honest to God, it took less than 3 minutes; it was so simple to do. Another way we make a difference, of course, is to vote. The presidential and vice-presidential debates were designed to help us with making the decision of who we wanted to vote for. Debates are a contest of ideas for people to vote on, who most aligns with what we believe, desire, and need, for a successful life. They were never designed to be who can be the loudest, or the most immature. Did you know 73 million ppl watched the last presidential debate, on October 1st. 11% of Voters are undecided – that may be enough to turn an election. According to Repub Pollster Frank Luntz - The Debate convinced some voters to not vote at all. We have not had a variety of backgrounds representative of the United States serve as president, even tho we are officially 244 years old. Of course, Barack Obama was the first and only Black American president. John F. Kennedy was the 1st, and only Catholic president. Catholics are the largest denomination in the United States – Joe Biden would be only 2nd Catholic President and Kamala Harris would be the 1st POC American Vice President, if they should win. I was reading up on candidates across my voting area. We have extensive advertising in the OhioIANews from both republicans and democrats, and occasionally, an Independent. The Democratic nominee's Irish ancestors have a LOT of similarities to my own story. I am 1st Generation, and deeply immersed in the Irish American community, so perhaps it is more crystalized for me, more present, meaningful and with similar values forged through our lives, past and present. Joe Biden’s family left Ireland in the 1800s; 220 years later, Vice President Biden has never shied away from his Irish roots. He knows they were formative to who he is today. VP Biden penned a letter to Ancestry.com the day before he left for Ireland in 2016, which is the source sent on to me. This was as the country was celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising. VP Biden “spoke to how the seismic event put Ireland on a path to independence” in his open letter. He also visited Kilmainham Gaol - where the leaders of the rising were executed - during his 2016 visit. I’d like to read you a bit, of what spoke to me: “Biden, who is thought to be five-eighths Irish, said ahead of the official 2016 six-day visit that being Irish has "shaped his entire life." He visited places in Louth, Mayo, and Meath, where his ancestors emigrated from. He also said, “We celebrate our shared heritage. Our shared values of tolerance. Diversity. Inclusiveness. And it’s a trip I’m so deeply grateful to be taking alongside my children and grandchildren… "Over the course of my life, I’ve been to a lot of places. I’ve traveled all around the world – more than a million miles on Air Force Two alone. I’ve been honored to have held a lot of titles. But I have always been and will always be the son of Kitty Finnegan. The grandson of Geraldine Finnegan from St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton; a proud descendant of the Finnegan’s of Ireland’s County Louth. The great-grandson of a man named Edward Francis Blewitt, whose roots stem from Ballina, a small town in Ireland’s County Mayo – sister city to my hometown in Scranton, Pennsylvania. An engineer with a poet’s heart. Months after my mother passed away, I found an old box of his poems in my attic. "In his poetry, my great-grandfather spoke of both continents, and how his heart and his soul drew from the old and the new. And most of all, he was proud. He was proud of his ancestors. He was proud of his blood. He was proud of his city. He was proud of his state, his country. But most of all – he was proud of his family. "And that is America: This notion that home is where your character is etched. As Americans, we all hail from many homes. Somewhere along the line, someone in our lineage arrived on our shores, filled with hope. We are blessed to experience that simultaneous pride in where we’ve found ourselves, while never forgetting our roots. "James Joyce wrote, 'When I die, Dublin will be written on my heart.' "Well, Northeast Pennsylvania will be written on my heart. But Ireland will be written on my soul.” You can read the whole letter on Ancestry.com, or probably find it with a google search. What else is going on? Well Pro Football is back and has really done a remarkable job in having so few COVID infections. Their well-coordinated plan, and action, shows what can be done, with planning and collaboration. I have really enjoyed watching the NFL so far – of course, because the Browns are 3-1, after 2 decades of mostly futility, and 2 years of complete futility. Pro football is definitely my favorite sport to watch, and to play. I enjoy watching Joe Burrow play for Cinci – he’s a baller for sure. Pittsburgh is its’ usual powerhouse and Baltimore is an AFC favorite; the Browns only loss this year. KC is the Superbowl favorite, with today’s GOAT, Patrick Mahomes. I do wish we could be like the NFL, with few infections, and quality treatment. The rest of America, and the world, are not so fortunate as our football heroes, or president. 207,000 of our countrymen are dead. Almost 1 MILLION have died worldwide at this writing. In Ohio, 159,964 have been infected. The number of deaths is 4,931. We mourn them; we pray for no resurgence, and the end of the scourge that is COVID-19. I believe in God, the father Almighty, creator of Heaven and earth… is the beginning of a catholic prayer called The Apostle’s Creed. We are all apostles of one level or another, one sort or another. No matter your spiritual beliefs, I believe in you. Whether you believe similarly or not, I wish you good health. We are All brothers and sisters – this land is your land; this land is my land. The only race that matters in life or death, is the human race, with no divisions. And yes, perhaps the race to find a vaccine that works, to save us all. Written by David Forsythe, a scriptwriter, author and journalist from Cork City. The title is a bit tongue in cheek, but David has set out to tell us, exactly that – with short bios of Irish men and women, some of whom we know, some we don’t, and their amazing accomplishments that were also amazing, rippling contributions, answering the title question, with great stories on exactly, What Have the Irish Ever Done for Us? I love the illustrated and photo filled book; I love the style and the accomplishments shared. Goal Accomplished David, well done. I’d like to share one of David’s stories. Given the season, I choose Kilkenny man “James Hoban, the White House Visionary” (p 92). Lotsa serious stuff this month, this year, this decade, or two. We are into our 7th month of holding COVID-19 off. It tried to end our run, but must not have realized what our community is made of. Let’s end this podcast with a little humor: These Wise Craics make me laugh: Irish craic explained - the six levels of craic you can reach, from @IrishCentral Jun 02, 2017 Craic is the Irish word that most confuses outsiders, yet it is a relatively simple concept. It is the atmosphere, fun, carry on surrounding a particular night out. ”How was the craic?” is the first question uppermost in most young Irish minds after a weekend. Here’s the encyclopedia definition: "Craic" is a term for news, gossip, fun, entertainment, and enjoyable conversation, particularly prominent in Ireland. It is often used with the definite article – the craic, such as, What’s the craic? So now that you have a grasp on what craic is, here is all the different kinds of craic (as if you weren't confused enough!): Good craic: A fairly ok night out, fun but nothing too amazing. Mighty craic: Better than good craic, not quite at the highest level, someone did some crazy stuff maybe. Savage craic: Almost there, great night all together, everyone on top firm, Guinness flowing, great jokes. Deadly craic: A step above savage but not quit the Everest moment. The craic was ninety: The nirvana of craic, everything was amazing, incredible, everyone hooked up, the pints were great. No one quite sure how the word ninety came into it--a famous Christy Moore song “The craic was ninety in the Isle of Man” maybe: Or perhaps, as good friend Shay Clarke explains, the Craic was 90, and we’re going after the other 10. And lastly! Minus craic: That’s when a night goes wrong and essentially, you’d have had more fun in a mausoleum. *** Support for this iIrish Songs, Stories and Shenanigans Podcast comes from WHKRadio and the Ohio Irish American News. Bernie Sanders in a political debate saying: “Black people should not exist. I propose that we impose a confiscatory 97.5 percent tax rate on them to make their survival impossible.”We would be outraged at any politician who made such a racist and hate-filled statement. Sen. Sanders has never said any such bigoted thing about African Americans. But earlier this year, newly minted millionaire Sanders declared that “billionaires should not exist,” and proposed imposing a discriminatory tax of 97.5 percent on them so that such rich people would quickly cease to exist. You might think that people choose to become wealthy, but that you and I do not pick our race. What we call race is vaguely defined by a set of factors such as skin color imposed on us by genetics, our inborn DNA over which we have no choice or control. It is unjust and racist to hate and punish us for what our genes created. But recent research at Kings College London and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, finds that 37 to 48 percent of the tendency to be an entrepreneur is genetic. “The tendency to identify new business opportunities,” reported Inc. Magazine about this scientific research, “is in your genes.”“Being rich and successful IS in your DNA,” wrote the U.K. Daily Mail in July 2018, reporting new scientific findings at Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina that “Being dealt the right genes determines whether you [are] … upwardly socially mobile.”Business success, I once argued in the Wall Street Journal, is at least partly based on genetics. “Have you noticed,” I wrote, “that wealth tends to run in families?”In that column I also proposed adding to the list of forbidden topics that made a crime into a hate crime a new item – hate based on class. Bernie Sanders and all the other Democratic presidential candidates who scheme to destroy billionaires via a “wealth tax” merely for being rich should be as guilty of a hate crime as one who attacks people for being black or homosexual or female. If becoming rich has a genetic component, then Richism – hatred and envy of the rich – is just as immoral and should be just as illegal as racism.Too bad for the Democrats, socialists and Marxists that their ideology and hence their political power has been built on preaching that we need to “soak,” hate and assault the wealthy. My proposal to expand hate-crime protection to a person’s “class” is urgent because new polling by the Cato Institute finds that the belief that “it is acceptable in some situations to be violent toward the wealthy” is growing. The Cato polling finds this attack-the-rich view in 35 percent of those under 30, 36 percent of those identifying themselves as “liberal,” 47 percent of self-identified “socialists” and 17 percent of “Americans in general.”Most other countries have few rich people, and those rich usually made their money not through entrepreneurship and free markets but via something like crony capitalism – enriching themselves through government influence.Think of Hunter Biden raking in $50,000 per month in Ukraine from a gas company only because he has a politically connected father.Hunter’s company also reportedly raked in $1.5 billion from a company run by Communist China’s People’s Liberation Army, after flying into China with his dad at taxpayer expense aboard Air Force Two and arranging a meeting between Joe Biden and the head of this company.Hunter says he is quitting his company title, but analysts discovered that he is keeping his rich privileged crony status as co-owner. Decent people are right to despise this kind of obvious political corruption and greed. Joe Biden is morally unfit to hold any office of public trust in America.“American exceptionalism” exists because for centuries those with a craving for freedom and opportunity have brought their DNA here. As Craig R. Smith and I documented in “The Inflation Deception,” those self-selected pioneers came here with an exceptional proportion of what UCLA Psychiatrist Peter C. Whybrow surmises is what geneticists call D4-7 dopamine receptor alleles in our DNA.Americans with this genetic blueprint, we wrote, “carry traits of energy, enthusiasm and ambition that could help explain our nation’s enormous success at business, entrepreneurship and innovation.”Our DNA helps explain why President Donald Trump loves America, and why the radical left that has hijacked the Democratic Party has a racist hatred for America. The non-crony rich are island havens free from socialist groupthink domination. # # # # For information regarding your data privacy, visit Acast.com/privacy See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode of our BryghtCast edition of the Managing Uncertainty Podcast for the week of October 7th, 2019, Bryghtpath Principal & CEO Bryan Strawser and Consultant Bray Wheeler take a look at current risks and upcoming events: BBC: Russia vows to prevent Turkey-Syria clashes NBC News: U.S. troops to withdraw from northern Syria as ISIS supporters escape amid alleged Turkish atrocities BBC: Brexit talks continue amid claims deal close Star Tribune: Protests around Target Center escalate, from peaceful chants to fire and impasse with police //static.leadpages.net/leadboxes/current/embed.js Episode Transcript Bryan Strawser: Hello and welcome to the Managing Uncertainty podcast. This is Brian Strawser, principal and CEO here at Bryghtpath. Bray Wheeler: This is Bray Wheeler, consultant here at Bryghtpath. Bryan Strawser: And this is our BryghtCast edition for the week of October 14th, 2019. And I think the biggest story on the minds of most around the world when it comes to large disruptions that are impacting companies and the world, and that is what has gone on over the last several days in Syria following President Trump's decision to remove the United States from at least northern Syria, although now he's talking about a broader. Bray Wheeler: Full-blown. Bryan Strawser: Full pull out of the country. The details of that remain to be seen, but Bray, what's happened in Syria over the last couple of days? Bray Wheeler: Yeah, there's been a lot of kind of a lot of breakdown in kind of the status quo of what's going on in Syria. Turkey has moved into the northern border and shaken up quite a bit of the stability in that region. Syria has also reasserted itself also in that area. There's the potential for kind of a tricky Syria confrontation somewhere in there. Russia has joined in saying that they'll mediate, they'll help keep people separate and have cooler heads prevail. Bryan Strawser: And I think Russia said that they would not allow fighting between Syrian forces and Kurdish forces. Bray Wheeler: Yeah. Bryan Strawser: Interesting. Bray Wheeler: They've definitely asserted themselves kind of in that region. Reports are essentially, perspective is that the Russian military has essentially replaced what the US was doing there. However, Russian interests and US interests in that area are very different. Bryan Strawser: Aren't the same. Bray Wheeler: However, that role, they've sort of taken the place of the US. Bryan Strawser: There's a couple of big complexities going on here. Syria for a long time, prior to the last couple of years was very aligned with Russia and even back to the old Soviet Union in terms of, they were never part of the Iron Curtain or the Warsaw Pact, but they definitely were buying military equipment from the Soviet Union and from Russia. They aligned themselves closely with those interests as opposed to being aligned with those of NATO or the United States. And certainly the Syrian government over the last two presidential administrations, I think we've essentially treated as a combatant. We've done a lot, the United States has done a lot in that kind of situation and now here's Russia kind of reasserting themselves in that region in a way that they haven't over the last couple of years. Bray Wheeler: Well, and countries like Syria and Iran, those are kind of well within the kind of former Soviet now Russian sort of orbit, even though they're not kind of direct states or puppet administrations of Russia. But they definitely align themselves with Russia. There is that influence that's happening within both those countries for a long, long time back to the Soviet Union. But yeah, in Syria there's a lot of concern around confrontations between the groups. Bray Wheeler: There are reports over the weekend that kind of troop movements have prompted Kurds to abandon ISIS prison camps, which there have been reports of ISIS members escaping, leaving, even in the thousands some reports are indicating. There are ISIS players back kind of returning to the field. Now, whether they go back to kind of full activity, who knows? I suspect yeah. But a lot of their families have moved into the area to kind of stay outside kind of where they're being detained and now those families are being forced to flee and things like that as these forces are coming in. There's just a lot of, there's a lot of instability, especially in northern Syria right now with all the stuff kind of playing out and kind of the worst, worst fears of what people were saying, kind of being realized, at least reportedly with ISIS being free and Kurdish forces being kind of decimated. Kind of the worst fears is being realized a little bit. It's contributing to a lot of uncertainty there and especially within Turkey and just the geopolitics of that area is really hot right now. Bryan Strawser: Well and I think that's the big question here in terms of at least what we're focused on in our podcast and that is what does this mean for broader geopolitical instability in the Middle East? What does this mean in terms of allowing ISIS a new safe haven or a new potential to reconstitute themselves? Certainly they've taken it in the shorts hard over the last few years going back to the Obama administration's involvement in dealing with them in Syria. Bryan Strawser: But I think this, there's the potential for continued disruption and the growth of ISIS. Reconstitution of ISIS as a terrorist organization. It's going to have to be carefully monitored and that will have impacts on both the broader geopolitical stability of the Middle East, but also for companies operating in that area. What that means in terms of business operations in Israel, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait, and other nearby countries. Bray Wheeler: Well even into Europe, and other Western countries where these folks may be returning or recently freed. That they've been off the radar. There's just a lot of, there's a lot of uncertainty with kind of these developments. We kind of got to a status quo kind of with the ISIS and the terror front a little bit that, things felt somewhat under control for the moment. Now, the kind of the eight balls has been shaken up on that. Bryan Strawser: What's next? Bray Wheeler: Next Brexit discussions are happening. Kind of early this week at least we'll see how the rest of the week plays out between the UK and the European Union. They're having more formal discussions around what that looks like. Particularly kind of around the legal documentation of the different moves. Bryan Strawser: The deal. Bray Wheeler: The deal. Bryan Strawser: The deal. Bray Wheeler: And there was the deadline from the EU, I believe... Bryan Strawser: It's today. Bray Wheeler: This evening. Bryan Strawser: Yeah, we're recording this on Tuesday the 15th, you'll hear this on Wednesday the 16th but the deadline I believe from the EU for a negotiated exit is today. Bray Wheeler: And in the Queen's speech, which she gave, was it yesterday? Bryan Strawser: Yesterday. Bray Wheeler: Kind of reaffirms which... Bryan Strawser: And to be clear the Queen's speech is written by the government. She doesn't have any say in it. Bray Wheeler: She's kind of the mouthpiece a little bit for kind of reciting that based on tradition. They held the kind of government's position and the Queen's speech was they held firm to, hey, we're leaving, we're leaving the EU on October 31st, 2019. Which didn't give, it doesn't give a whole lot of wiggle room in terms of negotiations and some of the other political developments that have been happening in the UK in terms of trying to kind of negotiate or reach a deal. It's another kind of move by Johnson to kind of assert that I don't really care what happens. We're leaving on October 31st however that works, we're leaving. Bryan Strawser: There's a couple of challenges going on there too. Despite, there's the issue of Johnson has not been able to hold his, I started to say caucus, but that's not the right term. He hasn't been able to hold his members together in his current coalition. His own party has voted against him on a number of these things. He lost the first three votes that he brought to the floor of the House of Commons. There's also the issue of, the EU is pretty much done with negotiation, although there seems to be some positivity in the communication we're seeing today. Maybe there will be a deal of some type that allows for this. Bryan Strawser: The other complication for Johnson is they're headed for a general election. He said he wants a general election. There's some point they're going to call one here or they're going to hit the statutory limit on the number of years the parliament can be in session without an election. That will have a play on what happens with Brexit. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. The continued, I won't say it's instability because I don't think it's that the government is not stable. Maybe the current ruling coalition is unstable, but there's a lot of uncertainty in the UK about what all of this means. Bryan Strawser: They did come out though however, just to touch on something we spoke about earlier on a previous episode around immigration, that there will be an EU settlement scheme. If you're in the country, you can apply to stay in the country. They will not be forcibly evacuating or exiting people. But there's still, like for my fellow students at King's College, there's still a lot of uncertainty about short and long term study visas if they're not already there. For folks in my particular course who study distance learning, it remains very uncertain what that means for the EU residents and others. Bray Wheeler: Well and I'm sure part of that is the intent of that is kind of political, kind of not appeasement but kind of an olive branch out to some of that stuff to try and advance some of the other portions of the Brexit discussion. Kind of alleviates the concerns there. Because that definitely is the most kind of confusing as well as kind of impactful kind of piece, at least at the outset for individuals. Bray Wheeler: the Last item we have, we just want to kind of take some time to just kind of talk around the Trump rally that was held here locally in Minneapolis over the past week. Last week, late last week and not necessarily to go into the kind of politics and those pieces of it. Bryan Strawser: We are staying out of the politics of this issue. Bray Wheeler: We are walking away from that but just wanted to talk about just from a pure kind of political rally kind of protest standpoint, kind of the impact and the things that companies were doing here at least locally to kind of mitigate some of the disruptions to their operations as well as just safety and kind of general preparedness that they had. Bryan Strawser: And I think to set the stage for this, the rally was held at Target Center, which is a basketball arena that seats about 20,000 folks. It is right in the middle of downtown Minneapolis. The airport, Minneapolis, St. Paul International Airport is where the President, and ironically the Vice President was also here in town for a different event and appeared at the rally, they flew into the airport on Air Force One and Air Force Two, separate travel. The VP was in much earlier in the day. I'd say the airport is roughly six miles from downtown Minneapolis. Bray Wheeler: Yeah, something like that. It's pretty close. Bryan Strawser: It's more like 10 miles in terms of driving because of how you enter and exit the airport. And so what we saw with the rally and the events surrounding the rally is that the Twin Cities are very much a blue part of the state. There was a significant amount of protestors who were protesting the President's appearance and then there were about 20,000 plus rally attendees, is what I believe is what's been communicated. I would say there was roughly an equivalent number of protesters, but I never saw an official count. Bray Wheeler: I haven't either. Bryan Strawser: And the police established, there was obviously a perimeter around Target Center and there were streets that were blocked off to allow the motorcade unimpeded access in and out of the facility. But otherwise the police I thought did a fairly good job of providing space nearby to protest and then managing those protests. There was the normal, bottle-throwing and some allegations of too much force and a couple of things. Police had bicycles and the horses and all the usual kind of things you see at big protests. It went on. But what we want to talk about is companies. There are a number of Fortune 500 organizations based here in the Twin Cities, including Target, Wells Fargo, US Bank, Ameriprise Financial, I'm trying to think who else is downtown, but there's a lot of Fortune 500 companies. Xcel Energy and others that are downtown and they're all in the central business district, which is where Target Center is and where the protests were. Bray, what did we hear from some of our clients that were in the downtown area? Bray Wheeler: Yeah, kind of the main pieces that we were kind of hearing from clients was really the option to have folks work from home. There was a lot of kind of indications of don't come in if you don't have to. Particularly on rally day, which I believe was Thursday, don't come in, stay home, work remotely, leave early, avoid kind of that portion of this kind of the city, the downtown area, those sorts of things. But there was also a lot of just communication around, hey what's going on? Expectations, things like that. A lot of kind of the normal kind of precautionary things, which I think especially now heading, this is as Bryan you kind of mentioned earlier, this rally by a Republican president kind of held in a very kind of Democratic part of Minnesota. Bray Wheeler: There's a little bit more of those confrontations and things like that that were being played out here. At least locally in the news. But I think heading into, we're now heading really into being 13 months out, the 2020 election season. These sorts of things are to happen more frequently over the next 13 months just based on the nature of the politics of the country and what normally happens with these things. And then probably given a little bit more of, there are some heightened passions on either side, that these potential for more of a disruptive kind of environment to take place, especially in downtown areas, especially in these kinds of high traffic spots. And I think thinking about that in 2020 and those approaches to, hey, we're probably going to be seeing these in a lot of these areas, certainly at the convention locations, things like that, which is a whole different level of disruption. Bray Wheeler: But just for these rallies and things like that, companies really need to start kind of thinking about what they want their approach to be in terms of maintaining operations, but also just keeping people safe, minimizing kind of the disruption and the noise that happens with some of that stuff. Bryan Strawser: I think, we've encouraged clients for a while and I think we've even recorded some podcast episodes on this about major events and protests and things like that. We really encourage companies to think about as an ongoing process, what's normal look like in terms of physical security procedures? What does a heightened set of security, kind of like your orange, what does that look like in terms of how you physically protect your building? And what does red look like? What does it look like if you need to secure the place and only allow employees into the location? What does that look like? Bryan Strawser: And then you can start to think about what triggers that increase in the threat level and thus increases how you approach the physical security of your structure. I think companies in Minneapolis have had a chance to practice this, so to speak, because we had the Superbowl here in 2018 and a lot of companies had to do this. In the run-up to game day, they really kind of went to that orange stage and they secured their entrances and they did some different things. They only allowed employees in the lobby and that kind of thing. And then on game day, which of course is Sunday, so a lot of them aren't open anyway, they kind of went to red. We're shut down, we're going to secure the facility, we're not going to have people working here just to avoid all of the different issues and the target, so to speak, that the Superbowl can be. Bryan Strawser: I think that's a good graduated way to think about this. When you get to a presidential rally and there's going to be protests, you can put your building on the orange level and say, "This is how we're going to approach this. And then here are some additional things we might tweak for that particular situation." But I think there's so much potential anymore for companies to be the target of protests or there to be other major events in a city that spelling this out in that way and then the team is just used to, yeah, we're going to be at a heightened threat level, so we're at orange, so I know that these things are in place. Bray Wheeler: Well I think you raised a couple of good points in terms of for companies that aren't located here within the Minneapolis area, think about those events that your city's held you over the last 10, 11 years and what your company's done to kind of protect. Minneapolis has been fortunate. As you said, the Superbowl, here last year as well as the 2014 All-Star Game. We had the 2008 Republican convention here, so there's been a lot of big moments here in Minneapolis that have allowed some of these corporations to kind of practice. Companies out in other cities, think about those moments and what you did, what worked, what didn't work. Go back and refresh yourself against those because those things don't happen all the time. As well as, maybe some of the more minor protests, but really go back and kind of think and strategize about what you learned, what worked, what didn't work, what's changed in your organization since that moment. But yeah, it's definitely a kind of moment, especially now just to kind of start thinking about what that looks like in your area and what you need to be prepared for. Bryan Strawser: And some of you, your cities are just laid out differently. I think about Philadelphia where the sports arenas are not downtown. They're out by the airport, they're isolated in the middle of big parking lots. These kinds of events happening at one of those facilities doesn't really impact the way it does in a metro area like doing a political convention in Boston as I experienced in 2004. Where the center, where the Celtics and Bruins plays is right smack in the middle of the city, in the financial district. Or here in Minneapolis where all of the sports arenas except for hockey are in downtown Minneapolis and the Minnesota Wild are right in downtown St. Paul. Actually, they're right by Ecolab's corporate headquarters, speaking of the Fortune 50. There's a lot of challenges around this in some cities. Bray Wheeler: Well and I think to your point, it's one of those things and to your earlier point too, companies have to, you have a large group of people potentially coming into your area for either a protest, supportive protest, counter-protest, whatever the case is. But guess what? That's a large influx of people and a lot of times they're coming from around the country or even locally, and you have a captive audience for your kind of issue set. Your company may be in the crosshairs of that group as well. Hey, we're actually here for this event, but guess what? We have 100 people that can show up on your doorstep to talk about the thing that we're kind of nagging you about. Now we can protest outside your door. Bray Wheeler: Even in places like the Philadelphia or New York or Kansas City or something like that, you have an influx of people. It's very easy for them to migrate early, after, during to one of your locations. Keeping current on what your kind of issue set is for protest activity is also going to be beneficial kind of heading into the year to understand what other issues may or opportunities may knock on your door for these protestors. Bryan Strawser: That's it for this edition of the Managing Uncertainty podcast. Tune in on Monday when we'll have a new episode focused on an interesting topic, business continuity, crisis management, and global risk. Hope to see you then.

What does athletics teach you? It’s not about you, it’s about the other ten guys on that team, the other four in basketball...it’s about everyone working together for a common purpose, for a common goal, and you shouldn’t care who gets the credit as long as you accomplish that goal. - Col. Bart Weiss Col. Bart Weiss is the Director of Athletic Operations at the Community School of Naples, in Naples, FL. He has a truly impressive background in sport and at the United States Air Force. He recently retired after nearly 30 years of service as a full Colonel, and before retiring from active duty in 2014 to join CSN, Weiss served as the Academy’s Deputy Athletic Director. As Deputy Athletic Director of the USAF Academy he oversaw 27 NCAA Division I sport programs and supervised physical education and fitness programs to over 4,000 USAF Academy cadets. Col. Weiss was born in Muskegon, Michigan but grew up in Naples and graduated from Naples High school in 1982. He is a 1986 graduate of the US Air Force Academy and earned a master's of science from Marymount University in 1998 and graduated from the US Army Carlisle Barracks in 2006 with a master’s in National Security Strategy. As a member of the class of 1986 Col. Weiss was named a conference offensive player of the year, 1985 First-team all-conference, and 1985 runner up for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. In 1985, Weiss was the first player in USAFA history to rush and pass for over 1,000 yards in a season and led the 1985 team to a 12-1 overall record and #4 national ranking. He was also recently inducted into the United States Air Force Academy Hall of Fame. In addition to these leadership experiences, during his career in the Air Force he led 480 cadet-candidates through a balanced curriculum of military training, academic education and athletic competition and also led and commanded flying squadrons and multiple operational units worldwide. He served in Washington DC working alongside both military leaders and members of Congress, and is a command pilot with 5,000 flying hours. He served as Vice President Gore’s pilot on Air Force Two, and also spent a year augmenting Air Force One! Kathy and Col. Weiss met up on the road this week and spent time digging into the “secret sauce” for parents of balancing support and humility, teaching excellence, integrity, respect, and instilling discipline in athletes. He delves into the dynamics of when to be a leader and when to fold into an existing entity and work your way up. His wisdom on the importance of failure and seeing the big picture is so helpful, and we believe parents and athletes will gain so much from the wisdom in this episode. Learning from his focus on teachability and cheering on the entire team was such an honor to us, and we hope this episode inspires excellence in you and your athletes this week!

You're Petting Your Pets Wrong Dr. Marty Becker is back with new research that shows you may be petting cats and dogs improperly. This is especially important if you're a veterinarian. The Fear Free Pets movement wants us to rethink how we interact with our four-legged friends. Do Dogs Like 'Baby Talk' Most of us baby talk to babies and our dogs, but maybe we should just limit it to puppies because it turns out older dogs aren't so impressed with our baby talk. A new study shows that baby talk, also known as dog-directed speech when you're conversing with your dog, gets a big response from puppies, but older dogs really couldn’t care less. No Pets in The White House - But VP Doesn't Disappoint! When Vice President Mike Pence and his family moved into the Naval Observatory last week, a new furry friend accompanied them: a rabbit named Marlon Bundo. Marlon the rabbit accompanied the Pences to D.C. on Air Force Two, the vice president's plane, recently. The Pences also have two cats, Oreo and Pickle. We're hoping that by now Oreo and Pickle have gotten used to the leftover smells from the Biden's German Shepherd, Champ. Pet Owners Fined for Animals Left Out in Cold In Yakima, Washington, authorities are giving a warning to unkind pet owners after receiving reports of animals being left outside in frigid temperatures. Since the beginning of last month, animal control has already responded to at least 60 animal welfare checks. Pet owners could face a misdemeanor charge for animal neglect if their pets are found in distress and given a fine from $250 to $5,000 depending on the severity. Recipe for Cats and Dogs To Get Along Cats and dogs really can get along to the point that they'll play hard together, drink water from the same bowl and cuddle on the couch, according to research led from Tel Aviv University. They discovered the recipe for success is to adopt the cat first and introduce a dog while both pets are still young. In homes where the cat and dog are mates, the research suggests they've managed to correctly read each other's body cues. Read More about this week's show.
