Send us a textGUEST: SOEREN KERN, geopolitical analystPresident Trump just returned from his first overseas trip of his second term. Where a president chooses to visit first is a signal of his priorities. That President Trump went to the Middle East and three Arab/Muslim countries—Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates (UAE)—speaks loudly about Trump's hope to bring peace and prosperity to the Middle East. Interestingly, Trump did not visit Israel, even though he was in the region.Trillions of dollars in investments by Arab countries to American businesses were negotiated. Trump met with sketchy leaders like Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who oddly gifted the U.S. a Boeing 747. Trump gave a major policy speech outlining his vision for the Middle East, which would have Saudi Arabia signing the Abraham Accords, a treaty normalizing relations between Arab nations and Israel. Meanwhile, Islamist Iran looms in the region, trying desperately to develop nuclear weapons. How to interpret all that took place? Christian geopolitical analyst Soeren Kern will join us this weekend on The Christian Worldview Radio Program to survey the many facets of President Trump's trip and how it will impact America and our longtime ally Israel. Soeren will also discuss the upcoming U.N. Palestine Summit June 17-20 in New York, which aims to “Take Irreversible Action Towards Implementing a Two-State Solution.” These are some of the subjects Soeren will be addressing in more detail in the June 2025 issue of The Christian Worldview Journal monthly print publication that is sent to all Christian Worldview Partners. Is God close to enacting His end times plan of snatching away His church and allowing the antichrist to deceive the nations and persecute Israel before Christ's return? We don't know God's timing but we'd better be alert and ready.

Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today’s episode. US President Donald Trump is still in the region and is visiting the United Arab Emirates today. After landmark deals in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, we discuss what may come out of the UAE trip — and the entire trip’s resonance for Israel, including Trump’s new relationship with Syria. We begin by discussing a half-hour meetup in Riyadh with Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Trump announced the US was lifting sanctions on the country the previous day and urged Syria to join the Abraham Accords normalizing relations with Israel. It was the first encounter between leaders of the countries in 25 years. We hear how Israel views this budding relationship. In Qatar, Trump signed an agreement with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani that will “generate an economic exchange worth at least $1.2 trillion,” the White House said. The announcement came as negotiations kicked off in Doha over a potential hostage-ceasefire deal with the Hamas terror group. Horovitz describes how Israel was not apart of the Trump visit, yet Israeli representatives are currently in the country in a renewed US push to negotiate an end to the war. To end the program, we speak about Israel’s approaching participation in tonight’s Eurovision semifinal. Horovitz describes the antipathy already experienced by Yuval Raphael, Israel’s 2025 contestant, who survived the Nova festival massacre on October 7, 2023. UN calls on Israel to lift 'brutal blockade' of humanitarian aid to Gaza The UN has called on Israel to lift its blockade of humanitarian aid delivery into Gaza, saying blocking the desperately needed aid inflicts a "cruel collective punishment". Tom Fletcher, the UN relief chief, said that: "International law is unequivocal: As the occupying power, Israel must allow humanitarian support in. Aid, and the civilian lives it saves, should never be a bargaining chip." Fletcher also said: "The humanitarian movement is independent, impartial and neutral. We believe that all civilians are equally worthy of protection," underlining that they remain ready to save as many lives as they can, despite the risks." US urges India to avoid broader conflict after Kashmir attack US Vice President JD Vance has said that Washington hopes that India's response to the recent attack in India-administered Kashmir does not lead to a broader regional conflict. Vance said that Washington hoped Pakistan would cooperate with India to hunt down those responsible for the attack. He said that: "Pakistan, to the extent that they're responsible, cooperates with India to make sure that the terrorists sometimes operating in their territory are hunted down and dealt with. That's how we hope this unfolds. We're obviously in close contact. We'll see what happens." Deadly drone attack in Kherson, Moscow blames Kiev A Ukrainian drone strike on a market area in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine's Kherson region killed at least seven people and wounded over 20 others, the Moscow-installed governor said. Kate Middleton is set to take on her most significant royal duty since completing chemotherapy treatment earlier this year. Buckingham Palace has confirmed her participation in the state visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his first wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, next week. Our Royal Insider Deep Crown has been observing that all of Kate's appearances have been controlled events.  Deep Crown tells Palace Intrigue, “The carefully structured nature of this appearance - a highly formal state visit with clear protocols and predictable photo opportunities - fits perfectly into what appears to be a strategy of controlled, choreographed engagements for Kate. Particularly notable is the specific clarification that she won't attend the evening state banquet - this kind of advance limitation of duties suggests the Palace is being extremely selective about her exposure and energy expenditure. The combination of the formal daytime ceremonies (where she can be photographed looking well in a structured setting) with a clear boundary around evening commitments shows how meticulously they're managing both her recovery and public perception. This ties into a broader pattern we've seen with her limited recent appearances, such as the Remembrance events, which were similarly formal and controlled in nature”Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan will find themselves on opposite sides of the United States as they both make high-profile appearances. On Wednesday, December 4, Meghan is expected to attend a glamorous Hollywood event in Beverly Hills, celebrating her friend Tyler Perry, who is being honoured with The Paley Honors Award. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the meeting follows the launch of a strategic partnership in 2022.But mutual concerns remain. The EU sees the Gulf as a key energy partner in reducing its dependence on Russian energy. Yet, the Gulf's ties with Moscow make this partnership challenging. For their part, Gulf countries are concerned about the EU's inconsistent stance on Gaza as the conflict expands. Can both sides overcome these issues to deepen their diplomatic and energy partnership? To answer this question, host Evi Kiorri spoke with Camille Lons, policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations and Cinzia Bianco, visiting fellow at the same think tank.

While chaos ensued during the march on Wednesday, security personnel fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowds. Three months after they were sentenced to death, seven out of the eight former Indian Navy personnel were released from Qatar's custody and brought back to India. While seven sailors returned to India early Monday morning, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, whose death sentence was commuted but still received the harshest punishment of a 25-year life term, hasn't returned yet. He, too, is expected to be back in India soon. With the deadline to submit nomination papers for the February 27 Rajya Sabha elections over on Thursday, the BJP and Congress released their official list of candidates for the polls. Among the 28 names announced by the saffron party – the same as the number of seats held by it currently – 24 are new, with only four repeated. A five-judge Constitution Bench presided by CJI D Y Chandrachud also directed that “the issuing bank shall herewith stop the issuance of electoral bonds” and asked the State Bank of India to “submit details of the electoral bonds purchased since the interim order of the court dated 12th of April 2019, till date to the Election Commission of India”.Farmers of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and BKU Dakaunda (Dhaner) began ‘rail roko' at several locations across Punjab at 12 noon today, including railway stations at Mansa, Barnala and Rajpura. Farmer leaders are set to hold talks today with Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityananad Rai, for the third time in a row, in Chandigarh. Speaking to The Indian Express, Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee General Secretary, Sarvan Singh Pandher hoped for a resolution after talks are held between the Centre and farmer leaders.Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani today. PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome during his Qatar visit. PM Modi arrived in the Qatari capital last night and met his counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The duo discussed ways to bolster ties between India and Qatar and PM Modi said he had a “wonderful” meeting. The external affairs ministry said that PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks on bilateral as well as regional and global issues.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said 17 people have been arrested in restive Sandeshkhali, while asserting that “none involved in any wrongdoing will be spared.” Referring to the area which has been witnessing protests over alleged atrocities on locals by ruling TMC leaders, Banerjee said in the state Assembly that she has never allowed and will never allow any injustice to anyone. In yet another setback to the INDIA alliance, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah today said that his party will go solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. He further said the J&K Assembly polls could potentially take place at the same time as the Lok Sabha election. During a press conference, Abdullah said, quote, “As far as seat sharing is concerned, NC will contest alone and there's no doubt about it."This was the Catch-Up on the 3 Things by The Indian Express.

Read on for today's agenda below prepared by David (thank you very much). - Retired US Diplomat to 5 different nations  David Hunter shares his knowledge, passion, interest, and experience.1)  Israel's PM Yair Lapid Prevented Palestine Islamic Jihad Attack by Using A Preemptive Strike?:  Acting PM Lapid approved a 'preemptive'  missile strike which killed Taysir al-Jabari,  a Palestine Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza Strip of Israel.  Israel claims Mr. Jabari was planning rocket attacks on Israeli tanks so a  preemptive strike on this terrorist leader's apartment was 'self-defense'. But that attack and others have now killed at least 15 Palestinian children in collateral damage.   Was it worth it?  2)  Is Gaza Strip an Occupied Territory of Israel?:   The Israel Self Defense Force (IDF) announced a unilateral withdrawal of occupation troops from Gaza in Sept. 2005.   But Israel continues to exercise  economic controls over goods movement into Palestinian.   Gaza inhabitants suffer home searches, limits on travel, etc.   Is such control tantamount to a  de facto occupation?  3)  Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award:   The Sheikh as Ruler of Qatar has established an International Corruption Award, to individuals and countries who fight corruption.   But since Qatar is a known backer of Hamas,  designated as an international terror organization by the US and Israel,  what gives the Sheikh the right to  be an anti-corruption champion? 4)  Is Russia Under Putin Becoming Xenophobic?  Putin has been funding 'Slavic Right Wing Nationalism' and promoting Eurasian identity as something that makes Russians unique in the world.   But Russia also has a fear of Chinese taking over their Far East region and perhaps Russia becoming a colony of China.   Is that reasonable?

After authorities in Madrid closed a gay sauna in the capital on Friday that had been identified as a possible place of the origin of monkeypox in Spain, more suspected cases have been recorded across the country, including the first infection of a woman. Spanish media have reported that there are now ‘at least 30' confirmed cases nationwide. Authorities on Saturday were investigating whether parties on the tourist island of Gran Canaria have been the source of several further infections, according to healthcare sector sources. Around 80,000 people from Spain and other countries attended the Maspalomas Gay Pride festival that took place there on 5-15 May. The Spanish left-leaning coalition government approved a draft bill on Tuesday to reinforce abortion rights and make Spain the first country in Europe to offer state-funded paid leave for women who suffer from severe period pain. ‘Today we send an international message of support to all women who are fighting for their sexual and reproductive rights,' Equality Minister Irene Montero told reporters, with the government hoping to guarantee access to abortion across Spain and de-stigmatise menstrual health with its new bill. Qatar has committed to investing 4.7 billion euros in Spain as the country launches an economic overhaul with its share of European Union pandemic recovery funding. Qatar's emir, Shekih Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, announced that the energy-rich gulf state would boost its investments in Spain at a state dinner with Spanish king Felipe VI late on Tuesday. The details of the investments were not made public beyond Spain's government saying that they would help guarantee the country's ‘energy security' and its transition to a ‘green economy'. But with Europe scrambling to find alternatives to Russian energy, Qatar has been looked to a source of liquefied natural gas given its massive gas reserves. The emir and Spanish prime minister met on Wednesday in Madrid and signed 12 agreements to solidify stronger bilateral relations. The agreements covered topics ranging from the economy and commerce to education, military cooperation, health and science. Spain, which received the second-biggest EU allocation behind Italy, plans to deploy 70 billion euros of direct EU transfers during 2021-23. It is set for an additional 70 billion euros in EU loans between 2023-26........................The Spanish government said the money from Qatar would ‘provide a flow of investments into Spain for its projects for a green and digital economy'. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moscow expelled 27 Spanish diplomats on Wednesday, as well as dozens more from France and Italy, in retaliation for the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Madrid and other European countries following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The employees of the Spanish Embassy in Moscow and the Spanish Consulate General in Saint Petersburg ‘have been declared persona non grata' and have seven days to leave Russia. “The last time we fished there it rained for most of the match and with the river rising, the fishing was hard,” said Carp-R-Us secretary Steve Fell. This time conditions looked particularly good as the river had a steady flow and everyone was looking forward to a good match. “How wrong that turned out to be!” Steve said. “Everyone struggled for bites and with at least 30 dead fish drifting down the river during the match there was a strong feeling that something in the river was affecting both the fish and the fishing. Incredibly sad.”

Qatar, a young state with a commensurately small population has emerged as an influential powerbroker in the Middle East. What are the tools that have enabled it to project power, soft or otherwise, on the international stage? How can we better understand Qatar's “maverick” diplomacy that has enhanced its branding? Since its independence in 1971 and following a period of “high modernism,” the Qatari state has also deepened domestic ties with important social actors, bringing them into its orbit by forging lucrative financial ties. How did the acumen of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who became Emir in the mid-90s, take the country further forward and what was the rationale behind transferring power to his young son, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani (then 33 years old), in 2013? Despite the challenge arising from the Gulf crisis from 2017 to 2021, Qatar has proven resilient and hastened processes of economic diversification. Besides liquefied natural gas, how has the state addressed the questions of energy transition and sustainable development? More importantly, self-sufficiency is key to Qatar's resilience. These are the questions that our guest speakers will tackle in this webinar. Speakers: Ms Zarqa Parvez, Durham University and Mr Omran Hamad Al-Kuwari, Qatar Foundation International (QFI) (This episode was recorded on 11 June 2021.

Why Did Al Jazeera Air a Story About Turkey's Brutal Oppression of Journalists?

On July 6, 2019 Qatari-owned Al Jazeera aired the first of a three-part show called "Media haven or hell? The paradox of journalism in Turkey" highlighting Turkey's brutal oppression of treatment of Turkish journalists and thinkers. The report aired while Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar was in Washington, DC meeting with US President Trump. This is intriguing because Qatar and Turkey have a close relationship. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President Turkey, constantly strives to position himself as the leader of the Sunni world in the Middle East, challenging major Arab Sunni states like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. Qatar strives to position itself as leading Arab Gulf Monarchy and to that end conducts a regional and foreign policy that challenges the line of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). As a result, in 2017 Saudi and the United Arab Emirates initiated a blockade on Qatar. This podcast explores Qatar's reasons and illustrates the point that everything in the Middle East is linked. And if you understand the links in the chain, you can make sense of seemingly disconnected, yet very connected events - and even begin to "predict the future."
