We open with news of some American manufactures finding themselves inundated with orders thanks to companies not wanting to do business with China while tariffs are so high. In 2017 a radical Leftist supporter of Bernie Sanders wanted to assassinated Republicans on a ball field. We are only just now finding out how botched and politicized the FBI report on the incident was. Katherine Maher, CEO of NPR, believes government needs to be out of their business. How right she is! We then illustrate throughout the rest of the show how the Left will always say whatever is politically expedient, regardless of how inconsistent it is from what they have said previously. We have another activist judge who says Trump needs to keep 12,000+ “refugees” in this country. The 5th Amendment being applied to illegals makes no sense. We then move to the Hill where DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was testifying. I only pulled three sound bites from Democrats and that's enough to test the strength of the duct tape you need to keep your head from exploding. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon discusses Harvard and the push to remove their non-taxable designation. As we start to wind down, I have a crazy invented story from Ana Navarro regarding Canada. Ironically, Trump is meeting with PM Carney today. Trump just gave us a thinly veiled answer as to who blew up the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The courts say the President controls military law and thus can fire transactivist Rachel Levine. Data Republican along with James Hartline found a financial connection between Bill “the Kickball Kid” Kristol and money from George Soros. Tyson Foods just announced they want to remove all synthetic coloring by the end of the month. Finally, we show another example of duplicity from the Village Idiot, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). We then close with a brilliant observation from VP JD Vance on who is really “leading” the Democrat Party. Please take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. When Russia unleashed its illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, gas prices in Europe spiked by a factor of 10, driving a wave of bankruptcies and restructurings of European energy companies. Uniper was one of those. Uniper is one of Germany's largest energy companies. It is active across more than 40 countries and has 19.5 GW of power generation capacity to its name. It was one of the funders of the built-but-never-used Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline that connects Russia to Germany and, for most of its history, was heavily reliant on Russian gas. So when the gas taps from Russia were turned off, Uniper reported losses of $40 billion — the highest losses in German corporate history — and was subsequently nationalised by the German government. The company has since returned to profitability under its new CEO, Michael Lewis, our guest this week on Cleaning Up. Michael Lewis joins Michael Liebreich to discuss the company's rise from the ashes, and how it plans to reach its climate targets and overcome the dunkelflaute.Leadership Circle: Cleaning Up is supported by the Leadership Circle, and its founding members: Actis, Alcazar Energy, Davidson Kempner, EcoPragma Capital, EDP of Portugal, Eurelectric, the Gilardini Foundation, KKR, National Grid, Octopus Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, SDCL and Wärtsilä. Energy as Leverage: NATO, Russia, and the New Geopolitics of Infrastructure

Beyond the Headlines

As Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues to reshape the global order, energy security has emerged as a defining challenge for NATO and its allies. From pipeline politics to infrastructure sabotage and disinformation campaigns, the Kremlin has long used energy as a geopolitical weapon to exert influence and destabilize democracies. In response, NATO members and EU states have launched ambitious efforts to decouple from Russian fossil fuels, bolster infrastructure resilience, and reconfigure energy supply chains. Yet key questions persist: Is Europe's shift away from Russian energy a structural transformation or a temporary pivot? How is the transatlantic alliance adapting to protect critical infrastructure from cyberattacks, sabotage, and narrative manipulation? And as the green transition accelerates, will energy decarbonization open new fault lines—or create lasting strategic resilience? In this episode, Beyond the Headlines examines the evolving nexus of energy, security, and democratic resilience. We speak with two leading experts in transatlantic policy and law to explore how NATO and its partners are responding to a rapidly shifting energy landscape—and how Russia's use of energy as leverage is transforming global politics. Dr. Benjamin L. Schmitt is a Senior Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds joint appointments with the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, and Perry World House. His work bridges advanced research in experimental cosmology with international policy engagement on energy security, infrastructure resilience, and sanctions regimes. A former European Energy Security Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Schmitt led diplomatic efforts to support NATO's eastern flank and counter Russian malign energy activities. He is also a Senior Fellow for Democratic Resilience at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), an Associate of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, and a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Professor Alan Riley is a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Natolin, and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council. A legal expert in European competition, trade, and energy law, he has advised governments, EU institutions, and companies on strategy and regulation surrounding energy infrastructure and security. He currently serves as an energy advisor to the Prime Minister of Moldova and sits on the Advisory Committee of the Energy Community in Vienna, applying EU energy law across Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and the Western Balkans. Professor Riley has written extensively on Nord Stream 2, foreign direct investment policy, and EU antitrust frameworks.  Produced by: Julia Brahy

Czy Unia Europejska ma plan, jak obronić się przed Rosją? Sprawdzamy

Raport międzynarodowy

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 25, 2025 73:29

[WSPÓŁPRACA REKLAMOWA] Gościnią Witolda Jurasza i Zbigniewa Parafianowicza w najnowszym odcinku podcastu “Raport Międzynarodowy” jest dyrektor Przedstawicielstwa Komisji Europejskiej w Polsce, Katarzyna Smyk.

It's Wednesday, March 19th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Pakistan court annulled forced marriage of Christian girl to Muslim man A court in Pakistan issued an historic ruling in favor of a Christian woman last month. Shahida Bibi was 11 years old when her mother eloped with a Muslim man who then “gave” Bibi to his brother. She faced years of abuse and coercion and gave birth to two children. She was also forced into an Islamic marriage once she turned 18. Thankfully, a court annulled the forced marriage. Alliance Defending Freedom commented, “While these forced conversions and marriage abuses happen across the globe, they are especially prevalent in Pakistan. In coordination with our allied lawyers in the country, we are taking every step possible to prevent these situations from occurring.” Pakistan is ranked eighth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian.  Bible sales nearly double United Kingdom Bible sales have nearly doubled in the United Kingdom, reports The Times. Between 2019 and 2024, the sale of Bibles increased 87% from 2.69 million British pounds to 5.02 million pounds.  Publishers credit this increased demand to the spiritual interest of young people. Sam Richardson, with The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, said, “Atheism, once considered by modern society to be the view of most rational adults, no longer seems to carry the same weight or appeal. Young people — Gen Z in particular — are statistically far less likely to identify as atheists than their parents.” Psalm 119:9 asks, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” Putin agreed to limited ceasefire Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a limited ceasefire in Ukraine during a call with U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday.  For 30 days, Russia said it would halt strikes on energy and infrastructure targets in Ukraine. This falls short of a complete 30-day ceasefire that Ukraine has agreed to.  Trump wrote on Truth Social, “My phone conversation today with President Putin of Russia was a very good and productive one. … We will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine.” Appearing on the Real Clear Politics Radio Show, reporter Phil Wegman, offered a fascinating boxing analogy. Listen. WEGMAN: “What is absent from this readout between Trump and Putin is any type of fireworks. Both Trump and Putin, they know each other. They're known entities, and while Trump isn't as aggressive in his description of the Russian dictator, he doesn't trust the guy. That much is clear from his moves on arming the Ukrainians during his first term, from his moves on Nord Stream. (Look at the map here) “I think this is just two folks who know each other pretty well, who are circling one another before they get into the ring and actually begin trading diplomatic blows to get this thing to an end.” By the way, Nord Stream is a network of offshore natural gas pipelines which run under the Baltic Sea, from Russia all the way to Germany (759 miles), to provide Western Europe with natural gas. Trump sides with church in zoning case The Trump administration is backing a church in a case over religious discrimination with a California city. The city of Santa Ana denied a request by Anchor Stone Christian Church to operate in the city's professional district. The city's zoning laws make it difficult for churches, but not other groups like museums or art galleries, to operate in the district. The U.S. Department of Justice supports the church, accusing the city leaders of Santa Ana of violating the federal law by giving less favorable treatment to religious assemblies.  Environmental Protection Agency rolls out biggest deregulation ever The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the biggest deregulatory action in U.S. history last week. The agency announced 31 actions aimed at unleashing American energy, lowering the cost of living for American families, and giving power back to states to make their own decisions. The agency's administrator, Lee Zeldin, said, “Today is the greatest day of deregulation our nation has seen. We are driving a dagger straight into the heart of the climate change religion to drive down cost of living for American families, unleash American energy, bring auto jobs back to the U.S., and more.” Missouri AG to Planned Parenthood: No more Abortion Kill Pills Missouri is cracking down on chemical abortions in the state. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey issued a cease-and-desist order to Planned Parenthood last week.  Bailey noted, “This order is a necessary enforcement mechanism to prevent Planned Parenthood from continuing to disregard Missouri law and to protect the health and safety of Missouri women. Planned Parenthood has a documented history of subverting state law, including failure to file complication reports.” Two astronauts returned after 9 months stranded in space And finally … SPACEX ANNOUNCER: “And splashdown. Crew Nine, back on Earth.  (applause and cheers) Butch, Suni, on behalf of SpaceX, welcome home!” two NASA astronauts headed back to Earth yesterday after spending an unexpected nine months aboard the International Space Station.   Last June, they anticipated only an 8-day stay. They languished in space for 286 days – 35 times longer than the initially scheduled mission. Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams had planned on a short mission last spring. However, the Boeing Starliner crew capsule that took them to space encountered technical issues, stranding them on the space station.  The astronauts returned thanks to a SpaceX Freedom capsule.  The capsule entered our atmosphere at 17,500 miles per hour.  The heat shield brought the speed down to 350 miles per hour. And then the four parachutes, which opened at 6,500 feet above Earth, lowered the speed to 119 miles per hour, enabling the capsule to land gently at 15 miles per hour in the Gulf of America off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida. During an interview on board the space station, Wilmore shared his Christian faith. WILMORE: “My feeling on all of this goes back to my faith. It's bound in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is working out His plan and His purposes for His glory throughout all of humanity. And how that plays into our lives is significant and important, and however that plays out, I am content because I understand that. I understand that He's at work in all things.” Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, March 19th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. 00:00:00 - The episode kicks off with casual banter, including voice strain from a concert, password-resetting jokes, and a backlog of Alex Jones clips. The hosts dive into an extended segment of Alex Jones' past rants, featuring over-the-top claims and signature outbursts. 00:10:00 - Scientific protests and funding struggles—scientists are organizing against budget cuts, with some forming a new lobbying group to influence policy. The hosts mock the idea of scientists feeling entitled to government funding and joke about dead-end research projects like studies on chimpanzee urination habits. 00:20:00 - Discussion of a study linking belief in conspiracy theories to spitefulness. The hosts argue that many official narratives, like the Nord Stream pipeline explosion or COVID-19 policies, were initially dismissed as conspiracy theories but later found merit. They criticize the mainstream framing of skepticism as irrational. 00:30:00 - Joe Rogan discussion—the hosts joke about compiling a database of Rogan's soundbites to create an AI-generated Rogan interview. They also play a clip about identifying psyops, arguing that censorship is a key indicator of psychological operations. 00:40:00 - James Bond Jr. legal case—a man named James Bond Jr. was jailed for 60 days because police thought he was lying about his name. The hosts find this absurd and discuss how tone and sarcasm can lead to police escalation. 00:50:00 - The JD Vance meme phenomenon—the internet has exploded with "fat head" JD Vance memes, depicting him as Bob Ross, a Black woman, a Halo gamer, and even a pro wrestler. The hosts react to these bizarre edits and discuss how meme culture has become a political tool. 01:00:00 - AOC's immigration comments—AOC claims that Republicans are building "private prison camp pipelines" rather than addressing immigration. The hosts criticize her misrepresentation of the legislation, pointing out how the Lakein Riley Act (named after a murdered woman) was twisted into an attack on Dreamers. 01:10:00 - Trump's speech highlights—a major line from Trump states that "all we needed was a new president" to fix the border crisis, implying Biden's executive orders caused the surge. Polling suggests many Americans found the speech entertaining and agreed with its sentiment. 01:20:00 - Trump exposes absurd government spending—in an extended segment, Trump lists billions wasted on projects like: $20 million for "Arab Sesame Street" $10 million for male circumcision in Mozambique $22 billion for free housing & cars for illegal immigrants $8 million for transgender research on mice $42 million for “social behavior change” in Uganda $250K for vegan climate action in Zambia The hosts highlight how Democrats refuse to address these wasteful expenditures. 01:30:00 - Elon Musk vs. the deep state—Democrats criticize Musk's access to IRS data, calling his team a "gang of twenty-year-olds" with dangerous oversight of private records. The hosts point out the hypocrisy, referencing Hillary Clinton's private email server scandal. They argue that government systems are outdated, and Musk's involvement might actually improve efficiency. 01:40:00 - Ian Crossland on Joe Rogan—Rogan interviews Ian Crossland from Timcast, discussing controlled opposition and how Alex Jones has been consistently right for decades. They recall Jones' early coverage of staged provocateurs at protests, suggesting history is repeating itself. 01:50:00 - PizzaGate discussion resurfaces—They revisit the weird Instagram posts of James Alefantis, archived evidence, and how the media intentionally misrepresented the scandal to discredit the investigation. They highlight Podesta's art collection and Marina Abramovic's connections. 02:00:00 - "Do Americans pee in the shower?"—A new study claims 25% of Americans pee in the shower, leading to jokes about government funding wasted on ridiculous research. Fallout from the Oval Office Debacle: What Happened and What's Next for Ukraine and the US?

Politics Politics Politics

In a dramatic turn of events last Friday, an Oval Office press conference meant to signal unity between the U.S. and Ukraine spiraled into an unanticipated disaster. What was supposed to be a step toward solidifying a peace negotiation framework with Russia instead resulted in the unraveling of a crucial minerals-for-aid deal. The fallout has raised pressing questions about the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations, President Trump's foreign policy, and Ukraine's ability to sustain its war efforts. The Lead-Up: A Fragile PartnershipTo understand the significance of last Friday's debacle, it's essential to examine the events leading up to it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a seasoned political operator, has long been reliant on U.S. support. Despite initial tensions, particularly regarding Biden's approval of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the Ukraine-U.S. relationship strengthened in the wake of Russia's full-scale invasion. The Biden administration's vocal support and military aid were critical in keeping Ukraine afloat. However, Zelenskyy has never shied away from playing hardball in the American political arena, a strategy that has at times put him at odds with U.S. leaders. His aggressive advocacy for Ukraine, including his willingness to publicly challenge U.S. decisions, set the stage for what would become a deeply consequential clash with the Trump administration. The Minerals-for-Aid Deal: A Shaky FoundationOne of the most underreported aspects of Friday's breakdown was the origins of the proposed minerals-for-aid agreement. Contrary to some portrayals, this wasn't a Trump-led shakedown—it was an idea first floated by Zelenskyy himself in October 2024. His proposal sought to leverage Ukraine's vast rare-earth mineral reserves, essential for advanced technology and defense systems, in exchange for long-term U.S. and European support. The Trump administration seized on this idea, seeing it as a way to justify continued investment in Ukraine while securing critical materials. However, negotiations faltered. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and a delegation, including Senator JD Vance and Marco Rubio, attempted to finalize the agreement in multiple rounds of talks. Zelenskyy, at one point, appeared ready to sign—only to later insist on additional approvals from Ukraine's parliament, frustrating Trump and his team. The Press Conference MeltdownThe diplomatic strain reached its breaking point at the White House. The stage was set for Zelenskyy and Trump to present a united front and sign the minerals deal. Instead, what followed was an unexpectedly confrontational exchange that unraveled months of negotiation. The first warning signs appeared when Zelenskyy openly bristled at Trump's references to Russian casualties, signaling an underlying frustration with the framing of the discussion. Tensions escalated when Zelenskyy, rather than using the platform to solidify the agreement, engaged in an impromptu challenge to JD Vance regarding U.S. support for Ukraine.Key moments included:* Trump's unexpected commitments: Despite accusations that his administration is soft on Russia, Trump pledged continued arms shipments to Ukraine and even left the door open for U.S. troops participating in a peacekeeping force.* Zelenskyy's misstep: His attempt to push for additional reparations from Russia, while politically sound, was ill-timed given the fragile state of negotiations.* The breaking point: A contentious back-and-forth between Zelenskyy and Vance, initiated by Zelenskyy, derailed the proceedings. Within hours, the deal was dead. The Fallout: A Win for Moscow? The failure to secure an agreement is a major setback for Ukraine. Without a clear U.S. commitment, European nations may hesitate to maintain their full-throated support, wary of straining relations with Washington. Meanwhile, Russia stands to benefit from any cracks in the Western alliance's stance on Ukraine. For Trump, the incident may not be the political liability that critics assume. Polling suggests that a majority of Americans remain skeptical of prolonged foreign military commitments. His stance, which aligns with a broader shift toward isolationism within the Republican Party, is unlikely to cost him significant political capital. What Happens Next?Despite the disastrous turn of events, all hope is not lost. The underlying incentives for a deal remain strong—Ukraine needs U.S. support, and the U.S. has a strategic interest in securing rare-earth minerals.* Will Zelenskyy make amends? His best course of action may be to reopen negotiations, perhaps even making a direct appeal to Trump at Mar-a-Lago.* Can Europe fill the gap? In the immediate term, European leaders, including France and the UK, are trying to reassure Ukraine, but their ability to replace U.S. support remains in question.* Will the Trump administration re-engage? The White House has signaled that the door is not entirely closed. Treasury Secretary Bessent has expressed confidence that an agreement can still be reached.Friday's Oval Office debacle was a textbook case of diplomatic miscalculation. Zelenskyy, known for his sharp political instincts, overplayed his hand at a critical moment, while Trump's characteristic unpredictability added to the chaos. The result was a self-inflicted wound for Ukraine at a time when it can least afford uncertainty. In the coming weeks, the world will watch closely to see if this was a temporary setback or a turning point in the war. One thing is certain—Ukraine cannot afford another misstep. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New types of snake-bite anti-venoms are designed by AI. Also, how much meat did human ancestors eat? How the Baltic Nord Stream gas pipeline rupture of 2022 was the biggest single release of methane ever caused by humans, and that Pluto met Charon, not with a bang, but more of a kiss.Using a high precision technique for spotting different isotopes of Nitrogen, Tina Lüdecke of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry has concluded that a group of early hominin Australopithecus living in South Africa were predominantly vegetarian, putting the date that human ancestors started eating meat (and thence growing bigger brains) to more recently. The technique, she thinks, can enlighten prehistoric food webs and ecologies from millions of years ago.Last year's Nobel prizes showed the potential new techniques of AI to design synthetic proteins. Timothy P Jenkins and colleagues decided to try designing treatments for snakebite venoms, with remarkable apparent success. It could save many thousands of lives a year.Since the September 2022 explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic sea, many different analyses of how much methane was released have provided a variety of estimates. This week, scientists at the UNEP International Methane emissions observatory – including Stephen Harris - published a study estimating it to be a little under half a million tonnes, making it by far the single biggest human caused release of this most dangerous greenhouse gas. Yet, they say, even that is a tiny fraction of what is released overall around the world every year. And Finally, a new analysis of the original formation of the Pluto-Charon binary Dwarf Planetary system suggests they – and possibly many other Kuiper belt pairing – were born of a gentle astronomical dance and a peck on the cheek, rather than the catastrophic collision we associate with the earth-moon's fiery first date. And it may have lasted just a matter of days, according to author Adeene Denton of the University of Arizona.Presenter: Roland Pease Producer: Alex Mansfield Production Coordinator: Jana Bennett-Holesworth(Photo: Gorilla feeding. Everyone assumed the perpetrator was the Russian Federation because of the Russian Federation's war in Ukraine, and because the pipeline carried natural gas from Russia to Europe. But, months have gone by and evidence that Russia was behind the Nord Stream attacks has not surfaced. This was the subject of a lengthy article in the Washington Post, the lead author of which was Shane Harris. In the fall of 2021, Joe Biden threatened a large segment of the American public with a “Dark Winter” if they refused to inject themselves with experimental gene therapy. That theoretical winter never arrived in America, but a different Dark Winter is scheduled to blanket western Europe just one year later. With the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipelines by American interests, Europe has been cut off from a potential source of oil and gas from Russia at the very moment that it needs it most. As winter approaches and the fuel needed to keep the lights on has been drastically reduced, the dominoes will begin to fall as country by country come to the realization that they will not be able to provide fuel to their people. Chaos will reign as the NATO countries slowly bleed to death after slitting their own throats with the blade of Russian sanctions.
