The Deep Theology of Sexual Unity (With Some Fun!): Interview with Randy and Rozanne Frazee You're not just trying to survive another week. You're not just trying to get the kids fed, keep the peace, and hold your marriage together with duct tape and prayers. You're living inside a bigger story—whether you realize it or not. When you start seeing your marriage through God's storyline instead of just your stress and circumstances, something shifts. Not overnight. Not magically. But deeply. Steadily. For real. And that's exactly what Randy and Rozanne Frazee unpacked in today's episode. In this episode, you're getting a conversation that is both wildly profound and surprisingly fun. Because yes—you can talk about theology, the Trinity, the image of God, and sexual unity… and still laugh. And that's exactly what happens when you sit down with Randy and Rozanne. They've spent decades helping believers understand the Bible not as scattered verses—but as one cohesive story of God's love and pursuit. Randy has been a pastor for 38 years and had a personal mentoring relationship with Dallas Willard—so much so that Dallas asked him to rewrite Renovation of the Heart for students. And Randy and Rozanne are not just brilliant—they're the real deal. High school sweethearts, married 44 years (going on 45), four kids, and now five grandbabies in the mix. What makes this episode so special is this: They don't just talk about the Bible. They talk about how the Bible transforms marriage, unity, and yes… even your sex life. You Keep Reading the Bible Like a Reference Book… But It's Actually a Love Story You've probably been taught to read the Bible in pieces: a Proverb for wisdom a Psalm for comfort a verse for anxiety a passage when your marriage is hard And those are good. But if you only ever grab the Bible for a quick fix, you can miss the whole point: it's one grand love story—from Genesis to Revelation—about the lengths God will go to get you back. When you start seeing Scripture as one unfolding narrative, you stop reading it like a scattered collection of morals… and you start hearing it like a steady message: God is pursuing you. God is restoring you. God is rewriting what sin tried to destroy. And yes—this includes your marriage. You're Not Just Living a Life… You're Living a Story You live in what Randy and Rozanne call the "lower story": Lunches. Laundry. Bills. Hormones. Conversations you're avoiding. Tension you can't name. The ache of feeling alone, even though you're married. And it's real. But there's also an "upper story" happening at the same time: God's bigger plan, God's spiritual reality, God's redemptive work that you can't always see while you're in the middle of the mess. You see it clearly in Scripture: Job experiences devastating loss in his lower story… while an unseen spiritual battle is happening in the upper story. Joseph is betrayed, enslaved, and forgotten in his lower story… but God is positioning him in the upper story to preserve His people. That's why Joseph can say, "What you meant for evil, God meant for good." It doesn't mean the lower story didn't hurt. It means the pain wasn't the point. So ask yourself: What if the hard thing you're living through right now isn't proof you're failing… but proof God is working? God Created Marriage to Reflect His Image—and Sin Has Been Trying to Ruin It Ever Since You've heard the phrase "two become one." But you might not realize how sacred that actually is. Marriage wasn't just meant to be companionship. It was meant to reflect something divine: unity, love, covenant, oneness. In the beginning, God says, "It is not good for man to be alone." And you can read that like, "Aw, God wanted Adam to have a friend." But it's deeper. God Himself is relationship—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not isolated. Not independent. Not self-focused. Unity. So when God creates marriage, He's not just giving Adam a partner. He's giving humanity a living picture of His image. And that's why the enemy attacks it so relentlessly. Because if your marriage reflects God's love, covenant, and unity… it becomes a threat to darkness. You Can Know Scripture… and Still Not Live It One of the most powerful themes Randy and Rozanne address is something you've probably seen too: You've met people who know the Bible. They can quote verses. They can correct theology. They can debate Greek words. And yet… They aren't gentle. They aren't kind. They aren't tender. And you're left thinking: How can someone love God's Word and still not look like Jesus? Randy explains this through something he learned from Dallas. He describes the difference between: believing something is the "right answer" versus believing it as a "way of life" And this matters for your marriage, because it's the difference between: knowing what love is supposed to look like and actually becoming the kind of person who naturally loves well The "12-Inch Journey" That Changes Everything Randy talks about the journey from: Head knowledge → Heart transformation And he explains it in a way that lands: When Jesus says, "Turn the other cheek," He isn't just commanding you to grit your teeth and try harder. He's describing what becomes natural when your heart has been reshaped. And that is what every marriage needs. Not just more information, but more transformation. Sexual Unity Isn't Just Physical… It's Theological If you've ever wondered why marriage feels so sacred—and so fiercely contested—this is why. Lean in, because this is where things get breathtaking. Randy explains the concept that: God is three Persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) who share one Being And marriage—two becoming one—is meant to reflect that kind of unity. Not perfectly. Not as God. But as an earthly image. And Rozanne brings it back to the practical: Sexual intimacy bonds you in a way nothing else does. It is not "just physical." It is a sacred expression of covenant oneness. And when you treat your spouse like an "other" instead of part of your own being… You start wounding your marriage from the inside. You Don't Need Your Husband to Be a Seminary Graduate to Be a Spiritual Leader If you're a wife reading this, you may be carrying a burden you were never meant to carry: "I'm the one who prays." "I'm the one who gets us to church." "I'm the one trying to get him to lead." "I'm exhausted." And if you're a husband reading this, you may feel stuck too: "She knows more than I do." "I don't even know where to start." "I work hard, but I still feel like I'm failing." Here's something freeing: Spiritual leadership isn't about being the most impressive. It's about being the one who initiates. The leader is the starter. The one who creates space where spiritual thriving can happen. That might look like: "Hey, let's read something together for 15 minutes." "Let's pray before dinner." "We're going to church as a family." "I want God in our home, and I want to learn." That's leadership. And yes—your wife might know more Scripture right now. But what she's been longing for isn't your performance. It's your presence. Your courage. Your initiation. If You Want Him to Rise, Stop Coaching His Weakness and Start Naming His Strength This is where it gets tender. Because if you're honest, you've probably tried to motivate him with disappointment. You've tried to push him into leadership by pointing out everything he's not doing. You want to feel safe. You want to feel supported. You want to be led. But here's something you need to understand about men: Men move toward competency, not incompetency. If you highlight his failure, he retreats. If you honor his effort, he leans in. So if he makes even a small move—don't critique it. Celebrate it. If he picks up a Bible, don't correct how he reads it. If he prays, don't edit his words afterward. If he initiates church, don't mention that it's "about time." Instead, try this: "Thank you. That meant a lot." "I feel cared for when you do that." "I'm grateful you're leading our family." This isn't fake flattery. It's faith. It's calling out the man you want him to become—while giving him a reason to keep going. Your Intimacy Will Not Heal If You Keep Avoiding the Scariest Conversations One of the enemy's favorite strategies is fear—specifically fear that keeps you from talking honestly about intimacy. You live with this person. You share a bed. You share a home. So why does it feel terrifying to say what you want? What you need? What hurts? What you're longing for? Because intimacy is powerful. And the enemy knows if he can keep you silent, he can keep you disconnected. But if you can learn to speak with tenderness, honesty, and safety… You can rebuild something beautiful. And here's the truth: Sex isn't dirty. It's sacred. It's a physical expression of covenant oneness. And when joy rises in your relationship, romance often rises too. Not because you force it. But because safety creates desire. And desire grows where connection is nurtured. You Don't Need Two Hours a Day. You Need One Small Step of Obedience. You might be thinking, "Okay… but I'm tired. Our life is chaotic. Where do we even begin?" Begin small. Set a timer. Fifteen minutes. That's it. Obedience comes before blessing. And when you take one small step toward God together, it does something inside you. It starts moving belief from your head to your heart—where real transformation happens. Little by little, fruit grows. And fruit isn't for the tree. Fruit is for the person who tastes it. Which means: your spiritual growth is meant to bless your spouse. Your Next Step: See the Bible as One Story (Not a Scavenger Hunt) Randy and Rozanne recently released a book called Encountering God's Love: From Genesis to Revelation. And their heart behind it is simple: Most believers don't struggle because they don't love God. They struggle because they don't understand the storyline. They know verses… but not the narrative. So this book is designed as 52 weeks of bite-sized pieces, walking you through Scripture chronologically, helping you see: God's story your story and how your marriage fits into redemption And yes—this is something you can do as a couple. Even if you're exhausted. Even if you're busy. Even if you feel behind. Final Encouragement Your marriage isn't just a relationship you manage. It's a covenant you steward. And if you've been living like the lower story is all there is—God is inviting you to look up. He's writing something. Even here. Even now. Even in your marriage. So take a breath. Ask Him what He's doing in the upper story. And take the next step. Because your story isn't over. And God is very, very good at bringing dead things back to life. Including you. Including your spouse. Including your intimacy. Including your marriage. Blessings, The Delight Your Marriage Team PS - Want to check out Encountering God's Love for yourself? PPPS - Here is a quote from a recent graduate: "The atmosphere in our home was very toxic with lots of hollering and hurtful things said. There was no fun or joy. We were just existing.  This affected my thought life as I was very disappointed in myself and felt like I was a hypocrite as I am a leader in our local church and lots of people look up to me.  I felt like God was even disappointed in me.  I felt shame for not being a good wife...[Now,] I have become more aware of my actions and reactions to my husband, and realized I have the power, with God's help, to make our marriage good and to love my husband well.  The tools I have learned in DW will forever be in and on my mind as I focus on becoming the wife God desires me to be.  I have learned that sex is good and holy and also meant to be pleasurable for me!  The atmosphere in our home is changing and playfulness is back!"

Read OnlineThe Apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Mark 6:30–31When a person does something profound and meaningful for the first time, it's a memorable moment. When a child walks for the first time, parents are elated. When we graduate from high school or college, a natural sense of pride wells up. Weddings, the birth of a baby, an ordination, and many other important events mark the beginning of something new and fulfilling.Around the midpoint of Jesus' public ministry, some of Jesus' closest disciples experienced one of those consequential moments. Jesus commissioned the Twelve to go forth, two by two, to preach repentance in many towns and villages (cf. Mark 6:7–13). He gave them authority over unclean spirits, enabling them to cast out demons and heal the sick. While they had been firsthand witnesses to Jesus' ministry and His mighty deeds, this mission marked the first time they acted independently in His name, exercising His divine authority. It must have been an awe-inspiring experience, deepening their faith and understanding of their role in His mission.Today's Gospel recounts their return from their ministry. We can imagine that each of them wanted to tell stories about all that they did and how the power of God worked in and through them. For that reason, Jesus invited them to “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” That invitation was likely enthusiastically received, given the emotional and spiritual energy they had exuded and their desire to process their experiences together.Though the invitation was sincere, Jesus' formation of the Twelve was not complete. What happened next helped the Twelve to better understand the deeper meaning of the ministry they had just undertaken. Though the Twelve were excited to be with Jesus and the others once again, so was the crowd. Despite the Apostles' exhaustion, the people pressed in upon them, making it difficult for them even to eat. When Jesus took them by boat to another town, the people hurried to the place by foot and waited patiently for Jesus and the Twelve. When the Twelve saw the crowd, they understandably might have been somewhat agitated. They had hoped for some time of rest, yet the people were starving for the spiritual nourishment that only Jesus and His disciples could give. Instead of agitation, “When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things” (Mark 6:34).Though the Twelve had a transforming experience preaching, healing, and casting out demons, Jesus' compassion for the crowds became their next crucial lesson. Their mission was not for their own sake or to marvel at the divine authority with which they ministered. It was about God's people, who were “like sheep without a shepherd.” Jesus wanted the Twelve to grasp the urgency of the mission they were entrusted with and the zeal required to fulfill it.Though we are not among the Twelve, each of us is entrusted with a mission. We must embrace it with the same zeal that Jesus showed in His ministry. While it is natural to feel tired and seek rest, supernatural zeal calls us to press on, to serve sacrificially, and to imitate Jesus' selfless compassion. Our mission must always reflect the heart of Christ, fostering in us the same compassion and love He modeled for all.Reflect today on the excitement the Twelve must have felt as they witnessed the crowd's hunger and thirst for spiritual nourishment. Consider your own mission of loving service—whether to your friends, family, community, or church. Are there moments when the demands on your time feel overwhelming, testing your patience and charity? In those times, strive to cultivate the compassion Jesus modeled for the Twelve, allowing His example to inspire you to respond with love, patience, and selfless care for others. My zealous Lord, You were tireless in Your preaching and unwavering in Your charity. The hunger and thirst of the crowd moved Your divine Heart with mercy and compelled You to shepherd Your people. Transform my heart to mirror Yours, filling me with supernatural zeal, so that I may never tire of serving those entrusted to my care. Jesus, I trust in You.Image: Андрей Николаевич Миронов (A.N. The Cross our Glory (S1859)

    From the Heart of Spurgeon

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 6, 2026 31:21

Here is Spurgeon at the heart of his ministerial and pastoral calling: glorying in the cross of a crucified Christ. Here is the essential power of all his preaching, and here is the delight of his own soul. Unpacking the sermon methodically, and finding his time running out as he expands upon this theme, Spurgeon begins with the cross itself, and what the apostle meant when he thought of it and spoke of it. He had in mind the fact of the cross, the bare reality of the incarnate Son of God dying for sinners. He had in mind the doctrine of the cross, and all it means, and the cross of the doctrine, the very centre and core of true Christianity. And why did Paul glory in this? Spurgeon ranges across the attributes of God, highlighting the ways in which God is manifested and magnified in the salvation accomplished in the death of his beloved Son, as well as speaking of the particular delights and comforts and stirrings which it brings to those who glory in it. And then, says our preacher, Paul had felt all its impact on his own soul and on his own life. The world had been emptied of all its attraction, all its enticements, all its glories, by the glory of the cross. Oh that the glory of the cross would have the same impact on us today, that the death of Christ would slay in us both self and the world, and so hold our hearts that no-one and nothing else would ever draw us, but that Christ in all the matchless mercy of his atoning sacrifice would be and remain our all-in-all. Is your magnesium not working, even though you're taking it daily? Discover why magnesium is not working, how to choose the best type of magnesium, improve magnesium absorption, and avoid common magnesium supplement mistakes in this video. If you're taking magnesium for sleep and other benefits, yet you're still dealing with insomnia, fatigue, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, leg cramps, anxiety, and more, this is for you. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in the body. It's involved in over 300 biochemical reactions and is vital for the following: • Heart rhythm• Healthy blood pressure levels• Sleep • Energy• Insulin • Nerve function • Mitochondrial functionHere are 8 common mistakes people make with magnesium, which could be the reason why your magnesium supplements are not working! 1. Thinking magnesium works by itself Magnesium and vitamin D are codependent. You need 4,000 to 10,000 IUs of vitamin D for magnesium to work properly in the body. If you don't have enough vitamin B6, potassium, or sodium, it may seem that your magnesium is not working. 2. Ignoring cell membrane damageMany people have damaged cell membranes due to the consumption of seed oils. You need healthy cell membranes for magnesium absorption. 3. Stress Stress shuts down digestion, lowers immunity, decreases blood flow to certain organs, and increases the demand for magnesium. Caffeine can also deplete magnesium.4. Taking the wrong type of magnesium Magnesium oxide is the most common form of magnesium in supplements, but it's the worst! Magnesium glycinate is a much better option and is the most absorbable. 5. Blocking magnesium absorption without knowingToo much calcium can block the absorption of magnesium. Zinc, fluoride, and aluminum can inhibit its function. Low stomach acid, antacids, and acid blockers can also interfere with magnesium absorption. 6. Misunderstanding RDAsRDAs do not represent a therapeutic dose. If you're trying to correct a magnesium deficiency, you need significantly more magnesium than the RDA. If you want to increase your magnesium intake, spread your doses throughout the day, as you can only absorb around 300 to 400 mg at once.7. Unrealistic expectations Vitamins and minerals do not work like drugs. It can sometimes take a while to restore healthy biochemistry in the body. 8. Missing the insulin connection Insulin resistance can block magnesium absorption, and consequently, a magnesium deficiency can increase your risk of insulin resistance. You may have heard about the significant ice storm that has swept through northeast Mississippi. Like many in our area, the Media Gratiae team has been affected, and the disruption has made it difficult for us to release a new episode this week. Still, we didn't want to leave you without encouragement. So this week we're returning to one of our most well-received series, originally published on October 13, 2022, featuring a conversation between Dr. John Snyder and Jeremy Walker on John Owen's Mortification of Sin. Our prayer is that the Lord would use these conversations to strengthen your faith and stir your hearts toward holiness, even in a week marked by disruption. We at The Whole Counsel love Puritans. We have benefited so much from their sermons, prayers, and books, it is our delight to discuss them and hopefully whet your appetite to read their words. In this new series of podcasts, Dr. John Snyder is going to walk through two books from the Puritan, John Owen, with our longtime friend Jeremy Walker. In this first episode, Jeremy and John are discussing Owen's, “On Temptation” and they discuss how to define, identify, and deal with temptation and testing. In this episode, Kelsey Picken offers a practical framework to help leaders step back, clarify their why, and make smarter decisions about how they invest in their own growth. Kelsey breaks lifelong learning into three distinct but connected areas: formal learning (degrees, certificates, and structured programs), informal learning (peer groups, mentoring, reading, and networks), and leadership as multiplication, the idea that helping others grow is one of the most powerful ways leaders deepen their own development. The conversation also explores how organizations and funders can better support leadership development, and why modeling learning from the top matters more than policies or budgets alone.ABOUT KELSEYKelsey Picken is Senior Director of Legacy Giving at The Dallas Foundation, where she works with donors to build charitable legacies that strengthen communities over time. What does it mean to truly trust the universe — especially when life feels uncertain? Nichole Bigley welcomes Estelle Bingham — “heart whisperer,” intuitive healer, teacher, and meditation guide — for a thoughtful conversation on what it means to trust the universe through the wisdom of the heart, and the deeper intelligence that supports our lives even when we cannot yet see the path ahead. Rather than something we must learn from the outside, inner guidance is often remembered through stillness. As the mind quiets, the wisdom of the heart becomes easier to recognize — speaking through signs, synchronicities, emotional awareness, and the subtle language of the soul. This exchange explores manifestation from a grounded perspective, reminding us that vision boards and affirmations alone are rarely enough. True creation asks for emotional participation — a willingness to feel what we are calling forward and to trust what is unfolding even before it fully arrives. Estelle covers the empathic sensitivity many intuitive people carry, and how challenging life experiences can become catalysts for healing, awareness, and spiritual growth. Heart-led trust, as she describes it, is not passive — it is cultivated through experience each time we choose alignment over fear. You'll hear reflections on: Psychic ability as an innate human capacity. Meditation as a gateway to inner listening. Emotional embodiment as a foundation for manifestation. Empathy and sensitivity as strengths rather than burdens. Heart-led trust as a lived practice rather than a fixed state. The role of surrender in allowing life to guide us. This episode will resonate if you are learning to release control, listen more deeply to yourself, and trust that your life is unfolding with intention — even in moments of uncertainty. Pearls The Denervated Heart: The donor heart is surgically severed from the autonomic nervous system, leading to a higher resting heart rate (90-110 bpm) due to loss of vagal tone. Because the heart relies on circulating catecholamines rather than neural input to increase heart rate, patients experience a delayed chronotropic response to exercise and stress. Importantly, because afferent pain fibers are severed, ischemia is often painless. Rejection Surveillance: Rejection is classified into Acute Cellular Rejection (ACR), which is T-cell mediated, and Antibody-Mediated Rejection (AMR), which is B-cell mediated. While endomyocardial biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosis, non-invasive surveillance using gene-expression profiling (e.g., AlloMap) and donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) is increasingly utilized to reduce the burden of invasive procedures. The Infection Timeline: The risk of infection follows a predictable timeline based on the intensity of immunosuppression. The first month is dominated by nosocomial infections. Months one through six are the peak for opportunistic infections (Cytomegalovirus, Pneumocystis, Toxoplasmosis) requiring prophylaxis. After six months, patients are primarily at risk for community-acquired pathogens, though late viral reactivation can occur. Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (CAV): Unlike native coronary artery disease, CAV presents as diffuse, concentric intimal thickening that affects the entire length of the vessel, including the microvasculature. Due to denervation, patients rarely present with angina; instead, CAV manifests as unexplained heart failure, fatigue, or sudden cardiac death. Malignancy Risk: Long-term immunosuppression significantly increases the risk of malignancy. Skin cancers (squamous and basal cell) are the most common, followed by Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD), which is often driven by Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) reactivation. Notes Notes: Notes drafted by Dr. Patlolla 1. What are the unique physiological features of the transplanted heart? The hallmark of the transplanted heart is denervation. Because the autonomic nerve fibers are severed during harvest, the heart loses parasympathetic or vagal tone, resulting in a resting tachycardia (typically 90-110 bpm). The heart also loses the ability to mount a reflex tachycardia; thus, the heart rate response to exercise or hypovolemia relies on circulating catecholamines, which results in a slower “warm-up” and “cool-down” period during exertion. 2. What are the pillars of maintenance immunosuppression regimen? The triple drug maintenance regimen typically consists of: Calcineurin Inhibitor (CNI): Tacrolimus is preferred over cyclosporine. Key side effects include nephrotoxicity, hypertension, tremor, hyperkalemia, and hypomagnesemia. Antimetabolite: Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) inhibits lymphocyte proliferation. Key side effects include leukopenia and GI distress. Corticosteroids: Prednisone is used for maintenance but is often weaned to low doses or discontinued after the first year to mitigate metabolic side effects (diabetes, osteoporosis, weight gain). 3. How is rejection classified and diagnosed? Rejection is the immune system’s response to the foreign graft and is categorized by the arm of the immune system involved: Acute Cellular Rejection (ACR): Mediated by T-lymphocytes infiltrating the myocardium. It is graded from 1R (mild) to 3R (severe) based on the extent of infiltration and myocyte damage. Antibody-Mediated Rejection (AMR): Mediated by B-cells producing donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) that attack the graft endothelium. It is diagnosed via histology (capillary swelling) and immunofluorescence (C4d staining). Diagnosis has historically relied on endomyocardial biopsy. However, non-invasive tools are gaining traction. Gene Expression Profiling (GEP) assesses the expression of genes associated with immune activation to rule out rejection in low-risk patients. Donor-Derived Cell-Free DNA (dd-cfDNA) measures the fraction of donor DNA in the recipient’s blood. Elevated levels suggest graft injury which can occur in both ACR and AMR. 4. What is the timeline of infectious risk and how does it guide prophylaxis? Infectious risk correlates with the net state of immunosuppression. < 1 Month (Nosocomial): Risks include surgical site infections, catheter-associated infections, and aspiration pneumonia. 1 – 6 Months (Opportunistic): This is the period of peak immunosuppression. Patients are at risk for PJP, CMV, Toxoplasma, and fungal infections. Prophylaxis typically includes Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole (for PJP/Toxo) and Valganciclovir (for CMV, dependent on donor/recipient serostatus). > 6 Months (Community-Acquired): As immunosuppression is weaned, the risk profile shifts toward community-acquired respiratory viruses (Influenza, RSV) and pneumonias. However, patients with recurrent rejection requiring boosted immunosuppression remain at risk for opportunistic pathogens. 5. How does Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (CAV) differ from native CAD? CAV is the leading cause of late graft failure. Unlike the focal, eccentric plaques seen in native atherosclerosis, CAV is an immunologically driven process causing diffuse, concentric intimal hyperplasia. It affects both epicardial vessels and the microvasculature. Because of this diffuse nature, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is often technically difficult and provides only temporary palliation. The only definitive treatment for severe CAV is re-transplantation. Surveillance is critical and is typically performed via annual coronary angiography, often using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) to detect early intimal thickening before it is visible on the angiogram. With climate-driven disasters becoming the new normal, building resilience is the grail. Communities around the world are developing models created out of practical necessity. We hear on-the-ground stories from two different communities building resilience in the wake of serial disasters. Estrella Santiago Perez and her innovative community rights organization ENLACE have helped organize a collection of marginalized neighborhoods in San Juan, Puerto Rico to overcome the twin catastrophes of Hurricane Maria and a failed government. And far away in the fire-ravaged communities near California's relatively well-off wine country, Trathen Heckman helped lead the nonprofit grassroots group Daily Acts to build a resilience network from the ground up with engaged citizens action, civil society groups and Sonoma County government agencies. In this week's episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings continue their deep dive into fatherhood with Part 2 of the Father Matters series. Centered around three foundational truths—that you can't father well unless you've been fathered, that fatherhood is relational not transactional, and that fatherhood never ends—the conversation challenges men to reflect on their own stories and press into presence over performance. Through personal stories and practical insights, Michael and SJ explore how being present, engaged, and intentional creates space for deeper connection and healing in relationships with children. They name the common distractions—busyness, financial stress, past wounds—and point to the quiet heroism of simply showing up. The power of meaningful questions, the role of forgiveness, and the impact of being emotionally available are all part of the journey. Whether you're a new dad, a seasoned father, or healing from your own father story, this episode is a heartfelt reminder that God is still fathering you—and He wants to empower you to father well. The sermon you are about to hear was preached by Don Davide Pagliarani on the feast of the Purification, February 2, 2026, a feast that reveals Christ as the Light of the nations and Our Lady as inseparably united to His work of redemption. From Simeon's prophecy to the sword that pierces the Heart of Mary, this sermon moves steadily toward the central truth that Redemption is never abstract, never painless, and never indifferent to the human heart. With clarity and urgency, he explains the role of Our Lady as Co-Redemptrix, and the responsibility placed upon every Christian to choose Christ without compromise. This next section marks a decisive and solemn moment in the sermon, where Fr. Pagliarani turns from doctrine to responsibility. He speaks openly about the future of the Society of Saint Pius X, the care of souls, and the grave question of episcopal consecrations, not as an act of defiance, but as a matter of conscience before God. What follows is a candid appeal grounded in one principle above all others: that in the Church, the supreme law is, and must always remain, the salvation of souls. – – – – – – View this episode on YouTube: – – – – – – – The Society of Saint Pius X offers this series and all of its content free of charge. A special release in honor of National Women Physicians Day 2026. Today's conversation is an invitation to notice overfunctioning with compassion. Overfunctioning may have helped you succeed in medicine but it often costs you intimacy, energy, and connection.   Overfunctioning and underfunctioning, as well as the resentment that follows, are a familiar relational dynamic. Overfunctioning is not a personality flaw; It's a role we step into. It is shaped by our training, context, and culture.   When we pause, rest, and allow space, we usually find that the world doesn't fall apart. Others step forward in their own time and way. Even when it feels unfamiliar, this shift can offer clarity, growth, and alignment with how we truly want to live and lead.     Pearls of Wisdom • Overfunctioning is a relational role developed in response to internal and external expectations. • When one person consistently does more, others often do less. Over time, the systems adapted this way. • Resentment is information. It often signals over-capacity. • Doing less can be an act of love that allows systems and relationships to reorganize. • When we stop stabilizing what's falling around us and tend to our own nervous systems first, is when change begins.     Reflection Questions Where in your life are you doing more than your share simply because you are capable? What feels most uncomfortable about stepping back? What might happen if you rest or stop managing? What would love do this week in your relationships or at work?       This episode is a bittersweet one. After years of conversations about faith, business, motherhood, legacy, and building a life that actually feels aligned, Evie and Lindsey share the honest story behind their decision to press pause on The Heart University and the Heart & Hustle Podcast. What began as a slow stirring turned into unmistakable clarity, marked by peace, conviction, and a deep sense of obedience to what God is asking of them in this season. This conversation pulls back the curtain on the emotional, spiritual, and practical journey that led them here, including the tension of laying down something deeply loved, the shifting call of motherhood, and the freedom that comes from surrendering control.   More than an ending, this episode is an invitation. An invitation to listen closely when life starts whispering for change, to trust God even when the next step feels unclear, and to believe that pauses are not failures but fertile ground for transformation. Evie and Lindsey reflect on the legacy of the Heart, the impact of community, and the beauty of seasons that evolve, while offering gratitude, encouragement, and prayer for every listener who has walked alongside them. This is not goodbye, but a transition marked by faith, trust, and hope for what comes next.  --------------------------------- Tickets to The Heart Workshop in Austin: https://theheartuniversity.com/workshop --------------------------------- Listen to Episode 342 - THE END OF AN ERA: The Heart University is Changing  Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/342-the-end-of-an-era-the-heart-university-is-changing/id1487265198?i=1000624493905 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4cXgS88mtVXSeW3nEDLwdG?si=8qHvrBrPTjaiegx2DZeaAQ --------------------------------- Watch on YouTube:  https://youtube.com/@theheartuniversitychannel?si=33lzxpBA9UxKlgTE --------------------------------- Follow along: www.instagram.com/mrslindseyroman www.instagram.com/evierupp www.instagram.com/theheartuniversity

Hope for Right Now Podcast – Encore Episode 2: When Help Doesn't Seem to Come There's an old Latin proverb that says, “Repetition is the mother of learning.” With that in mind, we are revisiting four of your favorite Hope for Right Now podcast episodes. Our prayer is that you would take some time to look back, and reflect on the ways you've grown in your relationship with God. We will return on February 23, 2026, with a new series based on our brand new Lenten devotional, Desert Bloom: Discovering Unexpected Joy in the Wilderness. Get your copy: https://wwp.today/desertbloom. This week's encore comes from our The Psalms of Ascent: A Lenten Pilgrimage series, episode When Help Doesn't Seem to Come. It's true; we can't control life's trials, but we do have a say in how we choose to respond. We can choose despair, or we can revisit Psalm 124, which offers comfort, hope, and a new perspective.  This is a special Encore Episode originally released in February 2024. The word translated “ascent” means “to go up.” It gives an idea of being on a journey, moving to a higher place spiritually. In this week's episode, Lisa and Laura dive into Psalm 124 and explore Scripture's response when help doesn't seem to come. Trials in life are inevitable, but what if, instead of falling into despair, we choose to see them from a new perspective? Join Lisa and Laura as they set our hearts on pilgrimage, unpacking today's Psalm and applying it to our daily lives.  Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Psalm 124:1-8. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. 1 John 4:4: He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. Romans 5:3-5: We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.  Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Where can you take a mini-pilgrimage this week? A half-hour pilgrimage to somewhere quiet? Finish the sentence: “If the Lord had not been on my side when [fill in the blank], what might have happened?” When has God come through for you in the past?  Show mentions.
