Send us Fan MailToday's show is going to be a little different. Usually, I interview professionals who are law enforcement, military, or victims of crimes. Today, I will interview a man who was a criminal. This is a story of second chances and what can be accomplished after making a mistake.Today on the show, I have Owen Hanson, whose life story was featured in the Mark Wahlberg production documentary, Cocaine Quarterback, available on Amazon Prime. Owen is a California kid whose mother left him and his father at a young age. He grew up playing volleyball and earned a scholarship to play at the University of Southern California. In his sophomore year, he was essentially cut from the team. His coach told him to get bigger and improve his vertical leap. So, Owen worked out six days a week, twice a week, and made it as a walk-on to the football team. He also took performance-enhancing drugs in his quest to become stronger and faster. This kid, who came from a modest middle-class broken home, was now partying with rock stars and other celebrities. He was also the team's and campus's drug dealer. After graduation, he wound up working as a bookie, money launderer, and associate with a Mexican drug cartel. At one point, he was making over a million dollars a day until it all came crashing down on him. He was tried and sentenced to 21 years in federal prison. Through a cooperation agreement with the Australian government, he was released after nine years. While he was in prison, he started a frozen protein product that he is now selling as a free man. Owen made a mistake, paid the price, and is now reinventing himself. YouTube says the milestone marks a new peak in creator scale and cements his long term status as the defining figure of the platform.[10] On the business side, MrBeast is also expanding his media empire beyond video. PR Newswire reports that Beast Industries and Moose Games have debuted MrBeast The Ultimate Game, a board game inspired by his challenge format, with presales already underway and a wider retail rollout planned for July and August. That matters biographically because it shows he is no longer just a creator, but a cross platform entertainment brand with consumer products.[6] Another major long range development is the North Carolina film grant for Beast Games Season 3. According to the News and Observer, the state awarded the production a 15 million dollar grant, the maximum rebate available, implying at least 60 million dollars in planned in state spending by Amazon and MrBeast. That is a significant signal that his reality competition franchise is becoming a major production asset, not just a one off stunt.[3] In the past few days, social chatter has been intense around a resurfaced 2023 interview clip in which MrBeast said he could launch a brand new channel without using his face or voice and without promotion. That clip is circulating again on Instagram, though the current discussion is speculative and should be treated as commentary rather than fresh news.[2] There is also unverified online buzz about his recent earnings, with Instagram posts claiming he accidentally exposed 24 million dollars in YouTube revenue over 30 days. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we've become completely blind to it.Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don't give them a second thought.We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty One Times!!!Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful. ??Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. National Indigenous Peoples Month in Canada pays tribute to Kateri Tekakwitha (1656-80). At age 19, after converting to Catholicism and taking a vow of perpetual virginity, Kateri left her Mohawk village of Ossernenon in present-day New York State and moved to the Jesuit mission village of Kahnawake, just south of Montreal, Canada. There she died five years later, respected for her piety and good works. She was beatified in 1980 by Pope John Paul II, and canonized as a Saint by Pope Benedict XVI at St. Peter's Basilica in 2012.
