Book Worm's Story Snacks | Into the Midnight Zone Can a bookworm who's afraid of the dark explore the deepest, darkest place on Earth? Join the Book Worm on this deep-sea Story Snack and dive three thousand feet below the ocean's surface — where the sun has never reached, the water pressure would squish a submarine flat, and the darkness is full of things that glow. Meet Augusta, a four-hundred-and-twelve-year-old anglerfish who knows everything about the deep ocean and almost nothing about the world above it. Discover lanternfish who wear their names in blinking lights, ride alongside a thirty-foot silver oarfish, and come face-to-face with a jellyfish that has been pulsing through the dark since before the dinosaurs. Then, when danger threatens Augusta's ancient neighborhood, the Book Worm will need your help to save the day. Together, you'll discover why the dark isn't something to be afraid of — it's just full of things that haven't been found yet.
Tonight we discuss with our special guest Joel, a time in man's ancient history where giants once roamed the earth. Were they the product of fallen angels interbreeding with humans? The result of an alien race's genetic tampering? Do the Nephilim bloodlines still exist? Where did these beings come from, and how do they still walk among us today? Let's get into it.......
Humanity finally reaches Mars expecting discovery, only to stumble into a revelation that quietly rewrites Earth's entire history. What begins as triumph turns into a cosmic joke with unsettling implications no one is prepared to accept. Mimsy's Joke by Millard Grimes. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Millard Grimes was born in Newnan Georgia in 1930, began his long career in newspapers as a proofreader and copy boy when he was still a high school student. He attended the University of Georgia where he wrote for the student newspaper, The Red & Black all four years that he was a student, and served as editor of the then-daily newspaper in 1950.Over the next 50 years Millard Grimes bought and sold, launched and expanded more newspapers than most people have ever read. At one time or another he owned more than three dozen newspapers in Georgia and Alabama. He published one novel, The Last Linotype, which was released when he was 90 and only two years before his death. He won a Pulitzer Prize for Journalism as a member of the Columbus Ledger team for the newspaper's coverage of corruption in Phenix City, Alabama in 1955. The previous year his only science fiction story was published in March 1954 in Planet Stories Magazine on page 31, Mimsy's Joke by Millard Grimes…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Hunted across a broken countryside, a frightened girl discovers a power that keeps her hidden—but not safe. When the men and dogs close in, she must decide whether to keep running or trust the unseen voice that promises a way out. Run, Little Monster! by Chester S. Geier.
Ocean exploration may sound like a niche science topic, but it affects far more than research ships and submarines. If most of the ocean remains poorly mapped and rarely observed, how can we protect habitats, predict hazards, discover new species, or understand climate change? In this episode, we break down why exploring the ocean still matters right now. NOAA ocean science plays a major role in uncovering what happens below the surface. From mapping the seafloor to discovering deep-sea ecosystems and tracking changing ocean conditions, exploration gives us the information needed to make better decisions for people and the planet. Deep-sea discovery is not just about curiosity. It is about safety, innovation, conservation, and understanding the largest living space on Earth. The surprising truth is that we know more about some distant planets than we do about our own ocean floor. On April 12th, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. Sixty-five years later, we celebrated that milestone at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, CA. We began on the lawn of Griffith Observatory, where host Sarah Al-Ahmed spoke with exhibitors about the tools, dreams, and technology that drive space exploration. Laura Tomlin, CEO of Space for Teachers, shares how microgravity research projects inspire the next generation. Robotics engineer Kalind Carpenter from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) walks us through the machines he’s helping to build to explore the moon and beyond. Software engineer David Hernandez from Blue Origin describes the work happening at Club for the Future to get young people excited about space. Research scientist Robert Green from JPL talks about the invention of imaging spectroscopy and how it’s used to unlock the secrets of distant worlds. And aerospace engineer Andy Sadhwani, who flew to space aboard Virgin Galactic, reflects on seeing Earth from above and what the Artemis II astronauts experienced. We then move inside for Yuri's Night's evening stage show, where the focus shifts to human experience and the overview effect. Cinematographer and polar explorer Jannicke Mikkelsen, Norway's first astronaut, shares her experience as part of the first crew to orbit over both Earth's north and south poles. Space philosopher Frank White, author of "The Overview Effect," leads a panel discussion with actress Nadine Nicole from The Expanse and commercial space explorer Christopher Huie about what happens to humans when we see Earth from space. Finally, NASA astronaut Ron Garan brings it all together with a powerful vision of our planet's fragility, our interconnectedness, and humanity's potential when we work together. The episode closes with Bruce Betts' What's Up segment, revealing a little-known story about what went wrong during Yuri Gagarin's historic first flight. Today, Gravy shares with you the Real Organic Podcast, the award-winning “Best Sustainability, Environment & Climate Podcast” produced by the Real Organic Project. Recently named one of the "best climate podcasts" by Earth.org, the Real Organic Podcast uncovers the forces reshaping organic food–like how corporate lobbying is redefining what “organic” means and how industry use of new terms like “regenerative” and “hydroponics” are not really organic. Hosted by Linley Dixon and Dave Chapman, each episode features deep conversations with farmers, scientists, chefs, and journalists fighting to keep organic food honest. Like today's episode with Barbara Kingsolver, where she reflects on her lifelong connection to food, her friendship with Joan Gussow, and the spiritual, cultural, and political meaning of how we eat. Fun fact—Joan was the mother of Adam Gussow, a scholar and professor in Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi! This Week’s Big Questions! You’ve been sending in your brilliantly curious questions, and this week…
On the last surviving star, a civilization that has mastered time, matter, and life itself faces a slow extinction they cannot stop. When a newly created mind claims victory over the unstoppable force consuming the universe, one decision will determine whether anything at all remains. The Red Brain by Donald Wandrei. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Author Donald Wandrei makes his debut on the podcast today. Born in 1908 in St. Paul, Minnesota, he built a reputation as a science fiction writer, poet, and editor—and, like many writers of his era, he shared a strong connection with H. P. Lovecraft. As a teenager, Wandrei hitchhiked from Minnesota to Rhode Island to meet Lovecraft in person. That journey led to his involvement in the Lovecraft Circle, alongside writers such as Frank Belknap Long and Clark Ashton Smith.Wandrei also played a crucial role behind the scenes. Without his intervention, The Call of Cthulhu might never have appeared in Weird Tales. He wrote directly to the magazine's publisher, making it clear that if Lovecraft's work wasn't accepted, the author would take his stories elsewhere. In late 1937, after H. P. Lovecraft's death, Donald Wandrei and August Derleth tried to publish a memorial collection of his best weird fiction. When major publishers passed, they created their own company—Arkham House—to release Lovecraft's work in hardcover. The name comes from Lovecraft's fictional city of Arkham, Massachusetts.Donald Wandrei went on to write nearly 100 science fiction short stories, and he was just 16 when he wrote the one you're about to hear—his first to be published, in Weird Tales magazine in October 1927 on page 531, The Red Brain by Donald Wandrei…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Humanity finally reaches Mars expecting discovery, only to stumble into a revelation that quietly rewrites Earth's entire history. What begins as triumph turns into a cosmic joke with unsettling implications no one is prepared to accept. Mimsy's Joke by Millard Grimes.

Hello and welcome back to All One Song, a Neil Young podcast with your host, Tyler Wilcox. Though he's never spoken with Neil himself, over at Aquarium Drunkard you can check out Wilcox's interviews with several of Neil's associates: Guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro; bassist Billy Talbot; and multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren. Chatting with these musicians, who have spent a good portion of their lives onstage or in the studio with Neil, offers a look behind the curtain into Shakey's creative process. And now, add Micah Nelson to that esteemed list. Since 2014, Nelson has served as one of Neil's closest collaborators, playing guitar first in the Promise of the Real, then in Crazy Horse, and now in the Chrome Hearts. He's toured all over the globe with Young, delivering epic, deep-cut heavy sets. During that time, he's appeared on such records as The Monsanto Years, Earth, The Visitor, Fuckin' Up and last year's Talkin to the Trees. And oh yeah, he also happens to be Willie Nelson's kid. Micah's work with Neil stretches beyond music; as we get into in our conversation, he was the creative force behind the recent Trans animated film, which brought Young's misunderstood 1982 LP to life. Micah also makes music on his own under the Particle Kid moniker, and he's currently working on a new, artists-first streaming and social media platform called The Flow. For his All One Song appearance, Micah selected “Change Your Mind.” This 14-plus-minute tune from 1994's Sleeps With Angels is a rich text, and one that Micah feels a strong personal connection, as you'll hear this week on All One Song.

The recent Nasa Artemis II crewed mission to the far side of the Moon is a further step towards a long-term return to the lunar surface and future missions to Mars. The plan is that before the end of the decade there will be a crewed landing and the start of a Moon base. China is among those developing similar plans. Previous missions both crewed and uncrewed have provided evidence of resources that potentially could be of use here on Earth, and support human life on the Moon. So, it's not just the race to the Moon that's capturing the world's attention, but also the possible economic benefits that that might bring with it. The Moon's surface or lunar regolith contains volatiles like hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane. There is evidence of minerals such as silicate and oxides and metals like aluminium and titanium, which could be extracted for building materials. And something that is rare on Earth, Helium-3, a potential resource for clean fusion energy. Governments in conjunction with private corporations are already working on the technology to extract these resources. Concerns have been raised about the potential damage to the Moon, not only in terms of the depletion of its resources, but in terms of its scientific value and its cultural heritage. Protection ranges from established treaties that prohibit ownership of the moon, to national laws that permit resource extraction. But to date, there is no universally accepted international law in place, which explicitly permits or prohibits lunar mining. So, this week on the Inquiry, we're asking ‘Should we mine the Moon?'Contributors: Dr Dylan Mikesell, principal geophysicist, NGI-The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Oslo, Norway Dr Justin Holcomb, assistant research professor, Kansas Geological Survey, University of Kansas, USA Prof Dr Thomas Zurbuchen, director of ETH Space, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich, Switzerland Dr Tanja Masson-Zwann, assistant professor and deputy director, International Institute of Air and Space Law, Leiden University, The NetherlandsPresenter: William Crawley Producer: Jill Collins Researcher: Evie Yabsley Editor: Tom Bigwood Technical Producer: Nicky Edwards Production Management: Phoebe Lomas and Liam Morrey(Photo: The Moon. Astronomy Cast Ep. 791: Chang'e Sample Return By Fraser Cain & Dr. Pamela Gay Streamed live on Apr 20, 2026. Last week we talked about samples from other worlds delivered to Earth by meteorites. But sometimes you've gotta do the job yourself. Visit the far off place and bring the samples home. And today we're gonna talk about China's Chang'e sample return program. How they've delivered rocks from different parts of the Moon, and how this sets the stage for their upcoming human lunar missions. The Chinese space program is step by step testing the technologies necessary for humanity to return to the surface of the Moon. From orbiting comms satellites, to landing sample return missions, the Chang`e missions are exploring new places in new ways. In today's episode, we discuss the Chang`e 6 sample return. It's Marvel Monday and the Guardians are back for more cosmic adventures! ABOUT GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL. 2 The Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL. 2 May 5, 2017 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL. 2 Director: James Gunn Writers: James Gunn, Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning Cast: Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord Zoe Saldaña as Gamora Dave Bautista as Drax Vin Diesel as Baby Groot (voice) Bradley Cooper as Rocket (voice) Michael Rooker as Yondu Karen Gillan as Nebula Pom Klementieff as Mantis Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord Kurt Russell as Ego BRAN'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL. 2 SYNOPSIS It's Missouri in 1980. Peter's father Ego visited Earth and fell in love with Peter's mother and they wanna get married! Fast forward to the present and the gang's all here. Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and literal toddler Baby Groot. The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! They take a job from gold lady Ayesha to protect some batteries from a space squid monster, which they do, in exchange for Gamora's sister. But then Rocket immediately steals those same batteries because of course he does. CLASSIC Rocket. This leads to an all-out attack, a crash landing into a ship planet thing that just kind of appears, and the arrival of a mysterious shirtless dad: Ego. Surprise! He's Quill's father. Ego invites Quill, Gamora, and Drax to his planet, while Rocket and Groot stay behind with Nebula to keep an eye on her. Peter and Ego hash things out. He explains why he wasn't around but says he wants to be the father he always hoped to be now. Meanwhile, blue whistle boy Yondu is hired to track them down. Things go sideways FAST when Yondu refuses not to give up Quill location. He ends up being imprisoned with Rocket and Groot, but they escape with some wild arrow work. Back on Planet Daddy Issues, Ego reveals he's basically a god who's been planting himself all over the universe (red flag), having kids everywhere (bigger red flag), and murdering them when they don't have powers (biggest red flag). Oh, and he casually admits he gave Quill's mom a brain tumor. Cool cool cool. Quill snaps, the team reunites, and it becomes a full-on “let's destroy dad” situation. From the corridors of the White House to the launch pads of NASA, we welcome space journalist and The Endless Void host, Kristin Fisher, for a sweeping conversation that bridges space exploration, UFOs, and the deeper questions of human existence. Born into a family of NASA astronauts, Kristin shares her remarkable journey from political journalism to becoming one of today's leading voices covering space and UAPs. Ryan and Kristin dive deep into the historic Artemis II mission, what it means for the future of human spaceflight, and the emotional (and very real) risks astronauts face every time they leave Earth. Kristin also recounts her firsthand experiences at major space events, her coverage of congressional UFO hearings, and what it was like questioning top Pentagon officials about the ongoing push for UAP disclosure. From David Grusch's explosive claims and the mystery of crash retrieval programs to Avi Loeb's interstellar theories and the growing conversation around consciousness in space, this episode explores the intersection of science, secrecy, and the unknown. Are we on the verge of real disclosure? What is the government actually hiding? And how do we begin to reconcile the possibility that we are not alone? In 1917, a single flame ignited one of the deadliest mining disasters in American history deep beneath Butte, Montana. But long after the fire burned out, something else remained. From phantom footsteps in abandoned tunnels to warnings that echo through steel frames, Butte isn't just haunted by what happened...it's shaped by it. Every time we open the news or social media, it feels like we're just 1 more headline away from Earth combusting into flames. It's hard not to feel that way when we're fire-hosed with atrocity at the top of every hour.I can't help but wonder: is the world actually ending, or are we just chronically overexposed to doom with no alternative vision to reach for?In this solo episode, I explore my own doom-and-gloom mode that sent me into AI psychosis, how I climbed out of the dark hole, and started to realize the power of imagination, relationships, art, creativity, and prioritizing seeking joy.If you've felt hopeless, numb, or paralyzed by fear, I hope this episode stirs something within you to ignite a new future. We need your creative thinking now more than ever.Questions to sit with:What inputs are you going reduce this week or intentionally change? What's something super imaginative and forward thinking and non-apocalyptic that you could start putting out in the world? What brings you joy and how can you top up on it this week?DM me @chelseariffe with your reflections ❤️

With war, political wrangling and price hikes jockeying for headlines, it's a rare thing to sit for an hour with a large group of strangers and focus on the small pleasures in life. But that's what the show “Every Brilliant Thing” is all about. Since 2013, Duncan Macmillan's audience-participation-heavy play has been performed in dozens of languages in hundreds of locations across the globe. It revolves around a central character who writes a list of all the good things in life for a depressed parent. And while it tackles dark subject matter — including frequent mentions of a loved one's suicide — it may be one of the funniest shows about depression, ever. In this episode of “The Sunday Daily,” Michael Barbaro talks with Daniel Radcliffe, who currently stars in a Broadway production of the show, and Mariska Hargitay, who will step into the role in a few weeks. We'll also hear from the playwright and several other actors who have performed the play on stages, in living rooms, on basketball courts and aircraft carriers all over the world. The lanterns are lit, the archive doors are bolted, and tonight, we are diving into a file that redefined the meaning of "Safety" in the modern world. The Glico-Morinaga CaseIn 1984, Japan wasn't just an economic powerhouse; it was considered the safest place on Earth. That ended the moment a CEO was dragged naked from his bathtub and the nation's candy supply was turned into a chemical weapon. We are exploring the reign of The Monster with 21 Faces—a group that didn't just want money; they wanted to see a superpower crumble. The Content: A Masterclass in the "Forensic Zero"This isn't just a retelling of a crime spree; it's a deep dive into how a group of shadows managed to stay one step ahead of 1.3 million police officers. The Kidnapping: The high-stakes abduction of Katsuhisa Glico and the impossible ransom of gold and cash. The Letters: We break down the mocking, poetic taunts sent to the media using modified typewriters that created a "synthetic" evidence trail. The Poison: The "Vending Machine Medusa" effect—how the fear of a single cyanide tablet brought corporate giants to their knees. The Hooks: Why This Case Haunts Us The Fox-Eyed Man: We analyse the only physical lead—a man who looked a detective in the eye on a moving train and simply... walked away. The Psychological Siege: How the Monster used the Japanese virtue of Mottainai (wastefulness) to trick people into consuming poison. The Ultimate Price: The tragic story of Superintendent Yamamoto, who chose fire as his only way out of the shame of failure... Interesting Details: The Mechanical PredatorIn this episode, we go beyond the headlines to look at the technical precision of the Monster. We discuss how they modified the type-bars on their machines to ensure the police were hunting a "ghost" machine that didn't technically exist. We also look at the "Stiff Alley" phenomenon and how this case is the reason every bottle you buy today has a vacuum-sealed "pop" cap.The Next Japan True Crime Case...The Monster may have retired, but the archives never sleep. Our next investigation takes us away from the neon lights of Osaka and into a much darker, clinical setting. We are moving from the grocery store to the hospital ward.Prepare yourselves for the next Case File: The Stomach Pump Murders. Keep the lights on, check your surroundings, and—as always—check the seal.Thank you again legends for your support and for listening to these True Crime Japanese focused episode. I really love Japanese True Crime because they are always different, and always unique, both culturally, and the lessons learned from them. Next week I cannot wait to explore more from the True Crime, with the Japanese cultural backdrop in mind.

Good morning, dear friend. Let's weave something beautiful today. We've spent the week collecting these precious threads—the roots of the oak, the sigh of the breath, the seal of the hands. Today, we're going to weave them into a cloak of balance that you can wear out into the world. If you've been feeling a bit "pulled apart" by life's demands, today is about becoming whole. We're moving from "practicing" to "being." What we're tucked into today: The Power of Coherence: How layering your tools sends a "super-signal" to your brain that it's time to truly thrive, not just survive. The Weaver's Secret: Exploring the ancient mystery of Tantra—the art of weaving your energy into an unbreakable fabric. The Symphony of the Self: A guided journey where your roots, your breath, and your hands join together in one gorgeous song of balance. The Day 6 Practice: The Woven Flow I want you to imagine we're sitting together, maybe feeling a soft breeze. Let's start by finding those Roots (Day 1), feeling the earth rise up to meet your feet. Now, bring your hands into that Prithvi Mudra (Day 4), sealing your energy in your lap. Take a slow, Physiological Sigh (Day 3), and as you exhale, let that deep red light (Day 5) glow at your base. Stay here. Notice how, when all these parts of you are working together, the 'chatter' of the world starts to fade. You are the weaver, and you are the web. You are balanced. You are complete. A Little Note for Your Heart You have spent so many years holding space for everyone else's story. Today, let these tools hold space for you. You don't have to be the foundation for the whole world today—you only need to be the foundation for yourself. You are doing such a beautiful job. This is day 6 of a 7-day meditation series, "Somatic Healing for the Heart: A Gentle Return from Emotional Exhaustion," episodes 3493-3499. THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE - THE BAREFOOT MINUTE Once a day this week, go outside and stand barefoot on the earth. Spend exactly 60 seconds noticing the temperature and texture under your feet without checking your phone. This simple act of earthing provides a literal somatic discharge of the static energy we build up from our devices. THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY Day 1: VISUALIZATION: The Deep RootClose your eyes and imagine your spine is like the trunk of a beautiful ancient tree. As you breathe out, imagine tiny silver roots traveling from the soles of your feet deep into the cool, dark earth. Any worry, any To Do list, or any heavy thought simply travels down those roots. The earth is big enough to hold it all for you. You don't have to carry it anymore. You are anchored. You are held. You are safe. Day 2: AFFIRMATION: "My body is a safe place to land." Day 3: THE PHYSIOLOGICAL SIGH BREATH Two quick inhales through the nose followed by one long, slow exhale through the mouth to instantly "offload" carbon dioxide and signal the brain to relax. Day 4: PRITHVI MUDRA Touch the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb. This mudra is used to increase the "Earth" element, helping to ground a nervous system that feels "airy" or frantic. Day 5: FOURTH (MULADHARA) CHAKRA Focus on the base of your spine. Visualize a deep, glowing red light that provides a foundation of security and physical belonging. Day 6: SOMATIC RELEASE FLOW MEDITATION: Combining the week's techniques Day 7: WEEKLY REVIEW MEDITATION: Closure with a review of the week's highs and lows. Good morning, beautiful soul. We made it. I wish I could reach through the airwaves and give you a giant hug. We've walked through the roots, the breath, the shield, and the garden together. Today is Day 7, and our theme is Embody. Today isn't about "doing" a meditation; it's about realizing that you are the meditation. You are the peace you've been seeking. What we're tucked into today: From Practice to Presence: How to take the calm you found on your yoga mat and carry it into your kitchen, your car, and your work. The Weekly Review: Looking back at our "Somatic Toolkit" and honoring the version of you that showed up on Day 1. The "I Am" Moment: A final, soulful practice to anchor your new foundation into every cell of your body. The Day 7 Practice: The Embodiment Review Let's sit together one last time this week. Close your eyes and feel that Root (Day 1). Take that Sigh (Day 3). Hold that Mudra (Day 4). Now, instead of looking for these things, just feel them radiating from inside you. You are rooted. You are clear. You are protected. As you move through your day, don't leave this feeling behind. When someone speaks to you, respond from your roots. When you walk, feel the earth supporting you. You aren't just meditating; you are living meditatively. A Final Note for Your Heart You have done something incredible this week. You chose yourself. You chose to listen to your body's whispers and honor your own exhaustion. Carry this week with you like a soft, warm sweater. You are whole, you are grounded, and you are so very loved. Endless Thread goes to space! First, host Ben Brock Johnson goes deep on radio signals of unknown origin, with an assist from real-life radio astronomer and Reddit MVP Yvette Cendes, aka, Andromeda321. Then, producer Kalyani Saxena takes Ben down the metaphorical black hole of Saturn's hexagonal storm, a massive vortex twice the width of the Earth that's inspired internet conspiracy theories every bit as unweildy. It is a place where Europe and Asia meet, where geography has created both isolation and diversity, and where ancient history remains relevant today. Good morning, friend. Let's make today a little more delicious. We've done the deep work of grounding and protecting, and today, I want to treat you. We're moving into the "Ritual" phase of our week. Healing doesn't always have to be "heavy" work; sometimes, the deepest healing happens when we are just being incredibly kind to ourselves. Today, we're layering in some sensory delights to help your body remember how to truly rest. What we're tucked into today: The Alchemy of the Cup: How a simple herbal infusion can act as a "liquid hug" for your nervous system. The Body's Library: A book recommendation to help your mind understand what your heart already knows. The Gentle Reset: A yoga pose that lets gravity do the work of grounding for you. The Day 5 Wellness Toolkit The Herbal Tea: Roasted Dandelion Root This tea is like a warm embrace from the earth itself. It has a rich, coffee-like depth that feels incredibly grounding, and it is a gentle champion for your liver and digestion, helping to "clear the path" for new energy. It's the perfect drink for someone who is ready to let go of the old and make room for the new. The Recommended Book: Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey This book is a beautiful permission slip. It reframes rest not as something you "earn" after you've worked hard, but as a sacred right that allows you to reclaim your humanity. The Yoga Asana: Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose) Since we've been talking about the pelvic bowl, this is a very gentle way to open that space. Lie on your back with the soles of your feet together and your knees falling open like the pages of a book. Support your knees with pillows so there's no "pulling"—just a soft, nurtured opening. A Little Note for Your Heart You have spent so much of your life being the one who "does." Today, I want you to be the one who "receives." Receive the warmth of your tea, the wisdom of the words you read, and the support of the floor beneath you. You are so very worthy of this quiet. This is day 5 of a 7-day meditation series, "Somatic Healing for the Heart: A Gentle Return from Emotional Exhaustion," episodes 3493-3499. Misha Glenny and guests discuss the physics, biology and chemistry of the element silicon which is at the heart of some of the most useful and beautiful objects on the planet. While it is still being created throughout the universe, the silicon we have here was made billions of years ago in dying stars. In its compounds we have long used silicon for glass and, more recently, purified silicon has become the foundation of modern electronics. Perhaps less appreciated is the role silicon compounds play in the biology of life on Earth, on the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the cycling of elements between land, oceans and atmosphere that sustains us.With Kate Hendry Oceanographer at the British Antarctic Survey and Bye-Fellow of Queen's College, University of CambridgeAndrea Sella Professor of Chemistry at University College LondonAnd Monica Grady Professor Emerita in Planetary and Space Sciences at the Open UniversityProduced by Martha OwenReading list:Christina De La Rocha and Daniel J. What did the universe look like before any stars turned on? Astronomers call that time the “dark ages,” and while they think it may be possible to see remnants of it in very low frequency radio signals, hearing those signals from Earth can be challenging. One possibility is to put a radio telescope on the far side of the moon, where it would have periods of observation shielded from interference both from Earth and from the sun—and potentially be able to receive that dark ages signal. The LuSEE-Night mission will explore that approach. A small demonstration radio telescope is slated for launch in late 2026 to serve as a proof of concept for low frequency radio astronomy on the lunar far side. Astronomer Anže Slosar, lead scientist for LuSEE-Night, joins Host Ira Flatow to describe the telescope project and what astronomers hope to achieve by sending it to the moon.
