Today's 2 topics: - The lunar roving, battery powered, 4 wheel drive "Moon Buggy" allowed astronauts on Apollo 15, 16, and 17 to travel 8 mph on the lunar surface with a maximum range of approximately 4.7 mi. Some of the rocks that these space travelers brought back, from the tiny area they were able to visit on the Moon, contained volcanic glass beads with trace amounts of trapped water inside of them.   - When the Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa visited the near Earth asteroid Itokawa in 2005 it found this 2000 foot by 800 foot elliptical world to have a variety of surface features. Instead of being a solid object like some asteroids, Itokawa is a rubble pile of boulders and pebbles held together by its tiny gravity. The total volume of pebbles seems to be comparable to the volume of large rocks and boulders which make up Itokawa , however, the depths of the pebbles or their concentration in the center remains unknown. Can we turn the world's deserts green? CrowdScience listener Youcef is captivated by the idea of bringing water back to Earth's driest landscapes. With sea levels rising and huge stretches of land drying out each year, he wonders whether redirecting seawater inland could offer a solution to both problems. Presenter Alex Lathbridge sets out to investigate… starting with a kettle of salty water. Alex speaks with scientists about how deserts form, and how human actions like overgrazing can tip a fragile grassland into a barren landscape. He learns how the brightness of bare sand affects local weather, reducing cloud formation and rainfall. Researcher Yan Li reveals how huge solar and wind farms could darken and roughen the Sahara's surface enough to double its rainfall, potentially kickstarting a self-reinforcing cycle of vegetation and moisture. But what about deserts where clouds already drift overhead? In the Atacama – one of the driest places on Earth – geographer Virginia Carter shows how fog harvesting nets can coax litres of fresh water from the air. Alex also investigates desalination, where professor Chris Sansom is trying to harness solar power to remove the salt from seawater without burning vast amounts of fossil fuels. My Catalina Sky Survey teammate Vivian Carvajal was asteroid hunting in the constellation of Eridanus with the 90 inch, University of Arizona's Bok telescope on Kitt Peak when she was treated to an amazing sight. Comet COMET 240P/NEAT with a small version of itself cruising along beside it.It is virtually impossible to predict if Vivian's fragment 240P-B will survive to make another approach to the Sun in 2033 or so.

Joey’s 8-year-old, Marvin, has been wanting a world atlas. A listener brought one to us for him! Marvin absolutely loved it. Karly apologized for the mixture of smells of the studio. Her leggings smelled musty, and she sprayed them with peppermint oil and Lysol. Is Walmart tracking us? A man made a purchase at Walmart in cash and then got an email asking for him to rate and review the product. There are rumors that Walmart is using facial recognition. Hot Tea: It’s reported that Taylor Swift paid a couple to move their wedding date so she could have her wedding on that date at the venue she wanted. Kenny Chesney revealed that Mac McAnally had some of Jimmy Buffet ashes in his pocket when they performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Columbia is offering to give someone all the rights to “The Company” if they can prove the Earth is flat. A guy tried to save an injured raccoon on the side of the road. He picked it up and put it in his car. While driving to a rescue center, the raccoon bit him in the face. Unfortunately, the raccoon had rabies, so the man will have undergo treatment. A few days ago, we did a ragebait prank about Morgan Wallen. Karly posted the video on social media; with the fact it was ragebait in the caption and at the end of the video. Most people didn’t pay attention and started correcting us again... including Morgan’s mom and grandma! We called Morgan’s Mamaw Kay and talked to her about it.
