When was the last time you experienced divine play? "Lila" is a Sanskrit word used in Hinduism and yogic philosophy, loosely translated as "play", and "delight in the moment." Today's new episode explores these concepts and is the first interview of a new mini-series: Astonishing WOC Healers. KJ will share conversations held with healers, social activists and educators who are Women of Color. Meet Yasmin Afrazeh, a Certified Kundalini Yoga instructor, Radiant Child-trained Children's Yoga teacher and Therapeutic Art Life Coach. She is the founder of House of Lila, a space for children to learn mindfulness through Kundalini Yoga and expressive arts including movement and storytelling. House of Lila grew from Yasmin's vision to help children preserve their natural wisdom and radiance, and regain their inherent state of being--of joy, awareness, creativity.  Spanning across Persia and Australia and solo road trips within the badlands of Montana, KJ and Yasmin recall the lessons on how to wholly surrender with wonder.  Takeaways: We already know what to do. We have innate wisdom within .  House of Lila could be a  mantra and lifestyle. "Lila" means "to divinely play".  Hold the space for delight and embrace the outcome of fluid, creative energy.  Are we missing opportunities for living in the present? We're always planning the next step,  doing instead of being. Our natural state is joy, lightness, innocence and possibility. Observe and admire children, as they are the most wonderful teachers.  Admire their freedom, and their wild imagination. They remind us, Everything's possible. Bow into service, of something greater than us.  “I am a small part. I am held. I am fine.” Please Rate and Review This Podcast if our stories have astonished you as well. https://ratethispodcast.com/astonishingstories  Episode Mentions: Website: www.houseoflila.netInstagram: @house.of.lilaPoem:  Inquire Within by In-QAd and show background music: Original piano compositions by  KJ Nasrul Intro  & Outro music: Canada Lo Res by Pictures Of The Floating World Connect With KJ and Bliss Begins Within Website: https://blissbeginswithin.com  Instagram:  @MusingsOnOther @BlissBeginsWithin @AdopteeSociety Clubhouse: @kjnasrul  Facebook & TwitterWant to create and send beautiful emails? ** BIRTHDAY & NEW SEASON CELEBRATIONS  ** Today's opening episode for the third season of SOAL is the nourishing, concluding conversation with Yoga & Meditation teacher and Certified Sound Healer Deva Munay.  In the first part of this conversation [Episode 49], we learned that Deva's home community had perished in a California wildfire earlier this year, and friends and neighbors came together in a mission to raise money for a rebuild. We ponder ways we recover from such  layered devastation and grief.  Takeaways: Deva's mantra: Hold to the center. Inquiries: What is the Divine Plan? Sound is one of the oldest and most natural forms of healing known to our planet. Sound frequencies can restore one's mind, body and spirit back to a state of balance. KJ welcomes Certified Sound Healer Deva Munay to explore what this means today in our Pandemic-riddled world. Deva has traveled and studied healing modalities across many landscapes, including Belize, Peru, Indonesia, and Egypt with the hope of incorporating the wisdom of these cultures into her sound journeys. Her mission is to create a unified field of pure awareness, with the intention of invoking deep states of healing, transformation, awe and wonder. In this first half of a two part conversation, KJ and Deva recall discovering the restorative properties of sound--- calm and tranquility; a technique to quiet the mind chatter!-- through extensive travel to post -injury recovery. The ladies also acknowledge that while this was a year of heartache and grief (on a personal and global level), it introduced new resources for wellness to a new audience. Somehow the world crisis prompted a return to a common mode of communication, a bond through an ancient language. Takeaways: 1.  Seek surroundings completely different than your known, familiar world. 2. There is this collective consciousness. Whether we're physically touching or not, we are constantly impacting our world and one another. 3.  Even in grief, this is what I can understand: destruction and transformation can lead to a higher good.4.  Nothing is ever truly lost; it is transformed. Please Rate and Review This Podcast if our stories have astonished you as well.https://ratethispodcast.com/astonishingstories  BONUS- Every review you leave enters you into a drawing to win a FREE 1:1 consultation with KJ!Episode Mentions: The Seven Wonders of Sound Esalen Retreat This Weekend  July 16th-18th! Deva's Website SacredSound.Love Listen to excerpts of Deva's  sound journeys Instagram @DevaMunay Intro  & Outro music: Canada Lo Res by Pictures Of The Floating World Connect With KJ & Bliss Begins Within IG:  @MusingsOnOther @BlissBeginsWithin @AdopteeSociety Website: https://blissbeginswithin.com  Roundtable Podcast with KJ  & Friends - CONNECTED! Clubhouse: @kjnasrul  Follow KJ's Clubs >> Magical Cartographers Club and Creativity & Compassion ClubFacebook & TwitterWant to create and send beautiful emails? Can we have honest and crucial conversations -charged, heavy, electric, passionate, uncomfortable, provocative as they are-- today?  If yes, what do they look like? How do we start them? It is these questions, and more that KJ contemplates  in today's Solo SOAL episode. Stick around for a few minutes as she accompanies us through a Compassion Invocation and music mandala. Questions Worth Considering: 1. Would you Come Sit With Me?  If you saw me hanging out on the couch or at a table with an open, available seat, would you take it? What stops you from sitting next to me? What compels you to sit next to me, engage with me? Come Sit With Me experiment, as envisioned by artist @jackieshermanart 2. What happens when we let go of  attachment to the outcome, but instead focus in the moment, on the process?3. Do you recognize the impact of nonverbal communication? What happens when there are no words? An experiential Expressive Arts Therapy seminar brought many nonverbal conversations that were just as profound and telling if not more than any verbal exchange. 4. What would it be like to talk about the grief, fear, and passion and channel that momentum towards advocacy for issues that are important to us and our communities?5.  The conversation is just beginning. This week, a Minneapolis jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murder of George Floyd last year, on May 25, 2020. We have much work to do, Healers. KJ's brief solo mic check today touches on Clubhouse, The 100 Day Project, adoptee storytelling and the revelatory return of the auditory sense. KJ acknowledges how impactful sound [and the absence of it] has been in her creative process. Then, stay a few moments to enjoy a sound bowl session courtesy of Sound Healer Breanna Blair. And start your day with a quiet seashell meditation. Takeaways: 1. Creativity is thriving. Most of KJ's current projects are rooted in sound. Her #100Dayproject focuses on music, lyrics and the physical and emotional responses invoked.2. The shift to aural feedback removes the Visual Pressure and stimulation. 3. Music encourages new family rituals. The Nasruls bond over Otis Redding and Miles Davis lately, not TV. 4. Clubhouse resurrects the art of compassionate conversations and active listening. Reminds us how to authentically react and respond. 5. Introducing a very personal passion project today- Adoptee Society. *SURPRISE* Here is part two of KJ's conversation with Trauma Informed healer, Pamela Stokes. Absorbing lessons learned in her own recovery quest, Pamela created a method called Somatic Release--a synthesis of movement, sound and mindfulness for trauma resolution. We wrap up our conversation by exploring self compassionate practices and Pamela gently guides us through a simple and impactful release technique to create new neural pathways, i.e. new opportunities to live each moment optimally. Part Two Takeaways1. Your body holds such a wealth of knowledge. It is communicating with you always. 2. Noticing your pain points is the first step towards healing and RELEASING extremely potent energy, masquerading as stored anger and fear. Once you recognize your body’s pain signals, you'll begin the process of connecting with sensation again. 3. You have the power to retrain your brain in communicating with your nervous system. 4. Meet in the middle. The In-Between is your body’s optimal functioning place. 5. Self Compassion looks like self curiosity. Listen and explore the stories your body wants to share with you. Can mindful movement heal buried trauma? "YES", says Pamela Stokes. In today's episode, KJ chats with Pamela, a trauma informed healer with an extensive background in biology, education, movement and music. From early dreams of dancing on Broadway in NYC, to teaching biology as a Science Specialist, Pamela was aware of a constant companion--pain. She sought balm for the discomfort of fibromyalgia through inquiry into neuroscience and sensory-motor training. Absorbing lessons learned in her own recovery, Pamela created a method called Somatic Release--a synthesis of movement, sound and mindfulness for trauma resolution. This conversation is so rich it expanded to grant space as KJ and Pamela touch on everything from Entomology, religion and trauma healing through neuroplasticity. The body speaks its story loud and clear, and Pamela provides counsel on how to truly listen. Part One Takeaways1. Our bodies are a wealth of information. We are impactful and powerful when we bring awareness to our physical vessels. 2. We can release our body's stored energy (in a variety of forms- anger, grief, unaddressed trauma) once we reposition ourselves, turn inward, to actively create new pathways and habits. This conversation explores compassionate ways we can shift our relationship with a "charged and tender" topic for many (including KJ): money. Takeaways: Radical Acceptance means surrendering to Now. The emotion and struggle in our relationship with money is REAL due to our primal associations and base, human needs (safety, health, acceptance). Money management can be a neutral tool that grants us freedom to support people and causes that are meaningful. Day to day money awareness is the key to building new habits and creating long term stability.Eowyn dispels three belief patterns that creatives hold about money today 1.) Money is the root of all evil 2. Money is unsexy 3) Income is more important than managing what we already have. Stories are just stories. We can revisit, revise, and we can retell. KJ and Mia Hagerty consider the pivot from the cerebral to the expressive physical via making films. We're claiming confidence in our creative abilities, even before we have the language for it. Mia is an artist and transracial adoptee, born in China and raised in Michigan, amongst a multicultural household with an American mother and Portuguese father. As a self-taught filmmaker, she creates nonfiction work that explores the curiosity, adventure, and wonder of the human experience. TAKEAWAYS: Say the thing even before you're the thing. Claim it aloud. Telling people what you are and what you do. Confidence is in the repetition of showing up and logging that information- every time you show up- as evidence! You’re already creative by doing, but you’ve redefined it, dropped out of being cerebral, and into physical expression. Breaking free of the rigidity-- once you’ve established it as foundation- is your launch pad! Try something new, even if uncomfortable. Slowly but surely that becomes a movement against the current healthcare industry" - Adrienne Nolan Smith "All of us deep down know when we don't feel whole and we don't feel like we're really on the right track to living our best life or preventing and reversing from chronic illness when it might arise. It's important to do the work to arrive at a place where you feel whole and are able to experience everything that life has to offer from joy and movement to relationships and self-love." - Adrienne Nolan-Smith "You are the CEO of your health and all change starts with people speaking up. Slowly but surely that becomes a movement against the current healthcare industry and we truly have no choice because if you look at the rate of this chronic disease epidemic, it's just skyrocketing and there are no signs of it slowing down." - Adrienne Nolan-Smith "The conventional healthcare system loves scores, charts, and tests. So, I'm sure they could come up with some way to create a quiz or a test to score emotional intelligence if they haven't done so already. You can use those results to help any practitioner, doctor, or insurance company to understand the baggage that people with illnesses are holding onto as well as the fact that they're not self-aware or very emotionally intelligent to be able to work through what they're going through." - Adrienne Nolan-Smith "It's absolutely worth investing money into helping people quantify their emotional intelligence, understand their thoughts and feelings, and unpack what's inside. Sure it may take time to see trends and quantified results but I believe that anyone who invests in holistic health will see the impact of certain activities that either worsen or improve one's health." - Adrienne Nolan-Smith   Links From Today's Show Dr. Kelly Brogan Rythmia The National Institutes of Health (NIH) PubMed The NIH Human Microbiome Project Dr. Laura Belus The HEAL documentary by Kelly Noonan Gores Kelly Turner Former surgeon general sounds the alarm on the loneliness epidemic Michael Pollan Johns Hopkins Psychedelic Research Unit 9 Key Factors Affecting Radical Remission From Cancer The "Loneliness Epidemic" Patient advocacy Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) Research WFR 236 Dr. Michael Ruscio WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 192 Jason Prall WFR 199 Peter Crone WFR 226 Paul Chek The WellBe Podcast How WellBe Are You? Quiz WellBe Guides WellBe Health News & Research WellBe Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube   About Adrienne Nolan-Smith In her personal and professional experience, Adrienne Nolan-Smith has seen how integrative health and wellness are key to preventing and reversing disease. When she was 11, Adrienne was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Her conventional doctor prescribed antibiotics, but they didn’t work and her mother was then told there were no other options. Two years and multiple integrative therapies later, Adrienne was Lyme-free. Over the years, other health issues came up and each time it became clear that conventional doctors had tools to treat her symptoms, but they never got to the root of the problems, nor did they really try to cure them. In 2010, Adrienne lost her mother to suicide while she was on antipsychotic and antidepressant medications to treat schizoaffective disorder. At that point, Adrienne knew she needed to completely switch careers and began working for a healthcare technology company, hoping to fix the system from the inside. After several years working with hospitals, she realized that, until wellness is the standard of care, the current chronic disease crisis would only continue to rise. She also realized that until people demand wellness from their doctors, their brands, their employers, their governments and ultimately, from themselves, nothing will change. Adrienne founded WellBe to facilitate this change by helping you get and stay well, and demanding a system that supports you in this endeavor. Discover how you can reconnect with your inner source by disconnecting from the outside world and remember who you are at your core Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill Buy Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill by Udo Erasmus here Healing fats are among the necessary nutrients needed to prevent and reverse degenerative disease, heart disease, cancer, and Type 2 diabetes. They can also help reverse arthritis, obesity, PMS, allergies, asthma, fatigue, skin conditions, and yeast and fungal infections. At the same time, more health problems come from damaged oils than any other part of nutrition. Udo Erasmus exposes the manufacturing processes that turn healing fats into killing fats, explains the effects of these damaged fats on human health, and discloses the knowledge you need to avoid the damaged ones and choose health-promoting oils. He also explores the therapeutic potential of flax, hemp, olive, fish, evening primrose, borage, and black currant.   "Peace is the deepest state of being and out of that comes love. On that level, love is the superlative state of being because love is all about giving." - Udo Erasmus Listen To Episode 272 As Udo Erasmus Uncovers: Why he chose to take a job spraying pesticides and how that came back to haunt him by poisoning him. The revelation he had on his wellness journey that health is our own responsibility. The incredible amount of damage that happens to oils when they are processed which then leads to poisoning the human body. How he naturally cured his body of the pesticides' poisons by fasting, moving, taking supplements, and paying attention to his nutrition. His North Star for staying true to himself and being present in real-life relationships. The message of his brand to help people find health from within and be content with their lives. The revelation his sister had about how people feel about death while visiting a hospice center. Why feelings of heartache, sorrow, and sadness are a reminder of the disconnection we have with ourselves. Why heartache is actually a gift, a reminder of being alive, and the starting part of feeling real joy. How we can embrace and love our fear, sadness, and anxiety in the same way that we love the people closet to us. How his mission shifted to focusing more on wellbeing than just oils after 9/11. The 8 steps designed by nature to lead you to wholeness. The importance of simply being honest if you don't know something instead of lying and saying or acting like you do know the answer. The biggest struggle for him in growing the Udo's Oil brand and his plans for the future. Why omega 3 and omega 6 oils are so essential for the human body and what happens when the body doesn't receive enough of them.  The most common myths and misconceptions out there about natural oils. Why mistreating oils and using them to fry our foods is the worst thing we could ever possibly be doing to them. How you can heal the damage done by unhealthy products and foods. The benefits of sweating via saunas and exercising to detoxify the body for better health. Power Quotes From The Show "When you're fully present in the space that you occupy and you're not lost in your thoughts, it feels so good to be alive." - Udo Erasmus "While we're here on this planet, knowing that it's temporary, why don't we push to thrive rather than just try escaping from the pain by chasing carrots? We were made to thrive." - Udo Erasmus "Peace is the deepest state of being and out of that comes love. On that level, love is the superlative state of being because love is all about giving. Giving doesn't happen until we feel full or more than full with love. When that feeling happens, there's nothing else to do but to give and help others." - Udo Erasmus  "Oils are the most sensitive of all of our nutrients so they should receive the most care including protection from light, oxygen, and heat. Unfortunately, we're mostly giving them the least amount of care. We're just throwing them into a frying pan and turning them into smoke. When we burn the oils, they burn us. When we fry the oils, they fry our health. They're vindictive and treat us like we treat them." - Udo Erasmus "How can food not be medicine? Your entire body is made out of light, oxygen, water, and nutrients. Nothing else. According to nature, drugs are not part of making human body's that already work. No one has ever had a drug deficiency. We throw drugs at problems to suppress symptoms but that is not fixing the cause. We can fix the cause by coming back aligned with nature. People aren't well, they're either out of line with their awareness, life energy, inspiration, movement, relationships, or the big picture." - Udo Erasmus   Links From Today's Show WFR 265 Jennifer Sodini WITMA Live Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill by Udo Erasmus Man awarded $80M in lawsuit claiming Monsanto's Roundup causes cancer Abraham Maslow Joseph Campbell Finding Joe What is Health? He was born in Poland during the Second World War to parents from Latvia and Estonia. His family emigrated to Canada when he was ten years old. He began his university studies at the age of sixteen and gained a B.Sc. in Zoology with a major in Psychology. This was followed by graduate studies in Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of British Columbia. In 1980, Erasmus was poisoned by pesticides, and, as a result of the experience, began to research the relationship between nutrition and health. He gave special attention to the effects of fats and oils on human health. Erasmus had become intrigued by the fact that Eskimos consumed largely fats, such as whale blubber, yet remained relatively healthy well into later life. In his research he discovered what he considered "healthy fats", that is fats which were beneficial rather than harmful to health. His thesis for his Ph.D. in nutrition was published with the title Fats and Oils in 1986. It was revised and expanded under the new name, Fats That Heal Fats That Kill (1993). Udo Erasmus has partnered with natural foods company Flora Inc., of Lynden, Washington, and Burnaby, British Columbia to produce the essential fatty acid blend called Udo's Choice Oil Blend as well as a line of probiotics and nutritional supplements.   Join The #WellnessWarrior VIP Club **Click on the photo above to get exclusive discounts on new wellness tools, be first in line for new podcasts, get access to invite-only events, and so much more.**   More Top Episodes 226 Paul Chek: The Revolution Is Coming (3 Part Series) 131 Drew Manning: Emotional Fitness 129 Gretchen Rubin: The Four Tendencies  183 Dr. Kyra Bobinet: Brain Science 196 Aubrey Marcus: Own The Day 103 Robb Wolf: Wired To Eat Best of The Best: The Top 10 Guests From over 200 Shows Get More Wellness In Your Life Join the #WellnessWarrior Community on Facebook Tweet us on Twitter: Send us a tweet Comment on the Facebook page

How women have been pre-conditioned to not articulate their wants and needs to other people. The beliefs, assumptions, and filters that hold women back from feeling free to express themselves. How, without realizing it, centuries of socialization has programmed our expectations for human behavior. Words and phrases that have boxed women such as 'rational,' 'emotional,' or 'abrasive.' How labels, filters, and assumptions can actually be beneficial as we navigate the world but can also become distorted and then create real problems in society. What unconscious bias training is and its goal to help people become aware of their biases and make changes. The art of nothing to slow down, pause, and reconnect with yourself. What tools we can use to grow our emotional intelligence muscles. The importance of looking for a partner who will listen to you, consider what you need, and create a dialogue when conflict comes up. Susan Cain's explanation about the differences between introverts and extroverts plus what an ambivert is. Why human social connection and acceptance is so vital for own survival. Steps you can take to be yourself in front of anyone without feeling anxious. Why people are not being their authentic selves online and how that's affecting our interactions and relationships. The control of social media and how it affects our mental health including the rise of depression for young women. How social media and society is programming this idea that we have to be loved in order to be enough. Why we feel that being liked at work is more important for professional success than the ability, knowledge, and experience that we have to do a job. The extreme standards that we're all trying to live up to when being average is absolutely okay. Why you shouldn't let circumstances dictate your life but rather influence your path. The biggest challenges she faces as a therapist and how she has personally evolved in her profession. Power Quotes From The Show "If you don't speak your truth because you're afraid of being heard, then that will guarantee it'll never be heard." - Dr. Alessandra Wall "Women oftentimes know what's making them mad but they don't feel like they can say it because it wouldn't be 'nice,' it would result in conflict or something else. We don't think we're going to be heard so we don't put it out there but that then guarantees that we will never be heard if we never put it out into the world. If we at least put it out there then maybe we'll find out that either we're not communicating clearly, the person doesn't understand what we're saying, or the person doesn't care about what we want or need in which case we have this great piece of information that will help us decide what we want to do with this relationship." - Dr. Alessandra Wall "If there is a friend, family member, or partner who doesn't consistently care what you need or want, the answer is to walk away from that relationship because otherwise, you're always going to be resentful and unhappy with that person." - Dr. Alessandra Wall "Speaking up truly is that simple. All it takes is being in that space where you are okay with who you are so that you can put it out into the world and not be constantly walking in this space of being worried that if you admit that you have two versions of Vanilla Ice's, 'Ice, Ice Baby,' on your iTunes playlist that other people will judge you for it." - Dr. Alessandra Wall "Our lives aren't determined so much by our circumstances so much as they're determined by the choices that we make. If you don't like the way your life is going, you have to do something different and speaking up is just one way to make that happen." - Dr. Alessandra Wall "If you don't speak up, say what you mean, and mean what you say, then you're being the most dishonest, shallow, and untrue version of yourself. The kindest thing you can do with someone is to be honest with them about what you think, feel, how they make you feel, and what you need from them. That will create the strongest relationships." - Dr. Alessandra Wall Links From Today's Show Dr. Alessandra Wall LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Pinterest Life In Focus Podcast Back To Me by Dr. Alessandra Wall Speak Up with Dr. Alessandra Wall Bridge The Gap with Dr. Alessandra Wall In Her Shoes Be More Confident: What Confidence Is And Is Not, And How To Build It Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked by Adam Alter Myers–Briggs Type Indicator Eckhart Tolle WFR 103 Robb Wolf WFR 183 Dr. Kyra Bobinet WFR 206 Dan Pardi About Dr. Alessandra Wall Dr. Alessandra Wall is a clinical psychologist, a coach, and an international speaker. Power Quotes From The Show "Plant medicine and breathwork are the top two methods that we use at Rythmia. The plant medicine is inherently the earth's way to usher in transformation and a new level of consciousness." - Christian Minson "Taking plant medicine is truly a soul contract. You are changing the neurological pathways in your brain. Yes, you can do that on a certain level by detoxing or attending motivational seminars and receive the essence of it but plant medicine is the deepest level of transformation and it sticks because you are rewiring your brain and making a soul contract. There is nothing else in the world that I have experienced, seen, or heard of that can do that." - Candice Marie-Fox "People have a concept of who they are in a labeled box. So, when they come to Rythmia and that box gets blow open and they finally have an awakening and see that they're so much more than that box they've put themselves in. The mastery is then going home and applying that awakening. However, once they go home, the real work starts as they have to apply that awakening to their thoughts, actions, and lifestyles in order to maintain and grow this realized awakening of who they are." - Christian Minson "Not every thought that comes into your head is necessarily yours. They could be guidance, intuition, or awareness for you to take the next step in your life." - Candice Marie-Fox "If you're dissatisfied with something in your life, it's because you're either thinking in the future or dwelling in the past. Breathwork will bring you back to the present because the only place where you can breathe is the present." - Christian Minson "We're all trying to get to a higher state of consciousness and getting involved in other people's energy will just lower our vibration. Don't take life too seriously; none of us get out of this alive and this is not the end. Our true home is that energy in heaven and it's so beautiful beyond belief. Sometimes we just get lost but once you drink the plant medicine, you're reminded to just be present, be a good person, and act from love. Literally let your thoughts, speech, and actions be in true alignment and the universe will act in your favor." - Candice Marie-Fox "Fear is the compass needle pointing north. Whatever you're the most afraid of, go in that direction. It's an uncomfortable sensation but it'll become easier to face that discomfort once you see the results. Why conflict is healthy in a relationship, love is hard, and relationships take work. Why people hide behind their ego through spiritual materialism by going to church or yoga class and owning items like crystals. Why activism is still a form of violence because it's segregating and dividing. The health issues she faced as a child with a poor immune system and how taking antibiotics and the steroid, prednisone, had a further negative effect on her wellness. The social pressures she faced as a teenager to be perfect while battling constant illness. How her own experiences with bullying and sexual assault as a teenager led her to help other girls her age in an organization she began with local schools counselors called Teens Against Dating Violence. How being a victim led her to make herself more masculine through bodybuilding, being tougher, and emasculating men which then led to a lot of hurt in her relationships with them. The difficult divorce she experienced and how that led her feeling like a victim once again. The visceral coding that the mind goes through when we've experienced trauma. [spacer height="20px" id="2"] Power Quotes From The Show "The Hero's Journey isn't about sacrifice, it's about uncovering your truth. You have to decondition your truth, break it open, and put yourself back together again." - Sara Gustafson "Embodying, exploring, and sitting with our feelings without any distractions is the hardest part of inner work because it is not comfortable. We're talking no drugs, alcohol, or excessive activities. If anything is going to make you grow, it's that because of how our modern culture has been built. Everything you can think of that will numb the cry of our bodies exists in substances like pills, environments like bars, or distractions like spending long amounts of time doing an activity from working out to shopping to learning." - Sara Gustafson "For greater wellness, you have to focus on fusing all of your primal needs together. Without even one, none of them will work. If you don't have your diet in place, exercise will fall apart. If you don't rest or recover, nothing else will be in place. If you're not happy, then forget being able to do anything else. If you're not focusing on yourself and taking responsibility for that, then why invest in anything else? All of your primal needs need to fuse perfectly and be in balance." - Sara Gustafson "Happiness is what's missing from most people's primal fusion. They don't prioritize, understand, or believe the value of happiness. When we try to program happiness into a client's life, it can take them up to a year sometimes to begin to start practicing it because they don't understand its value. Listen and discover why the 1 hour that you spend in the gym is much less impactful than the 23 hours that you dedicate to lifestyle, stress management, nutrition, supplementation, time management, and recovery. The 5x2 Method Click here to get your copy of The 5x2 Method Did you know you use at least one of your five senses every moment of the day, even when you are asleep? Each sense has its own special power, but it is when they are used in combination that we create those unforgettable experiences. We all have a set of daily habits that tend to dull our senses and encourage us to lead a pretty basic life of existence. We often find ourselves in the vicious cycle of wake up, repeat and go to sleep. Chirs DiVecchio developed the 5x2 method to help wake those senses back up and create a whole new way of thinking, acting, being and doing so that you can start living the life of happiness you deserve! As we know, the five senses are controlled by five organs: Touch - Touch has a memory Sound - Music to your ears Taste - Taste the rainbow Sight - The windows to the soul Smell - Stop and smell the roses In this book, Chris breaks each sense down in detail to help you understand a bit more how they can be used to shift you into a more positive state of being.   "Having control over how I look, feel, and take care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually costs me nothing. I don't have to pay a cent to register, process, and choose my thoughts and feelings." - Chris DiVecchio  Listen To Episode 266 As Chris DiVecchio Uncovers: What his upbringing was like with such loving parents that he sought out "tough" guidance from his friends' parents. The varying degrees of trauma that people might experience from neglect to no support from their family. Why there's nothing better to him than to make a living to make a difference. How he was able to find general peace and happiness throughout each day with the 5x2 Method even though he wasn't making a lot of money as an actor. Which of the 5x2 Methods help people the most go from doing nothing to creating something. The healing process that the current fitness industry is going through to focus more on wellness. Why he gives his clients a Giving Key necklace as part of working with him on their wellness journey. The deep questions he asks clients to really know who he's working with at their core. The common fear of taking a photo at the start of a weight loss transition and why we shouldn't feel that way. Why we naturally want to deal with what we need to focus on when the stakes are higher. Why losing weight will never be the end of our wellness journey. How to approach working with a new client when they're currently a client of another personal trainer you know. Why you have to be a greater listener to be a great trainer. What lessons we can learn when we pay more attention to something and see all of its benefits and worth. His unique connection to animals throughout his life and how they inspired the 5x2 Method. The biggest lesson that he's learning and teaching at the same time. How he implements his spiritual side to his training and helps his clients do the same. Why he doesn't believe in "good vibes only" with his optimistic outlook and will do the inner work with his deeper emotions. Why being given too much love as a kid was a problem for him as he grew up into adulthood and explored different relationships. About his other program, The E7 (Emergency 7), which is a 7-day protocol to help people naturally drop weight by their target date for a specific event such as a wedding. Power Quotes From The Show "If you feel good emotionally, then 9 times out of 10, your body is going to match that." - Chris DiVecchio "The growing fitness trend of using performance-enhancing supplements has its place but the healing process is really what people are focusing on now. Our main concern today is caring about how we feel rather than how we look. That's where the world of fitness and wellness is going. We're now realizing that if you feel good, then 9/10 times your body is going to match that vibration." - Chris DiVecchio "I had to put in an insane amount of trust that I was doing the right thing and I was in the right space. For me to freak out, panic, or to buy into any type of negative thought pattern I have right now, it's just not going to serve me. If I have control over how I look, feel, and take care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, then I have to do that at least. That costs me nothing; I don't have to pay a cent to register, process, and choose my thoughts and feelings." - Chris DiVecchio "Taking inventory is important in order to look back and reflect on your lifestyle situations, habits, or traumas. Being able to learn from past experiences and dissect some of the emotional turmoil that you've been through without allowing yourself to get stuck in it is a skill. A lot of people don't get as deep in their past to clear house is because they're afraid of what they might see along that journey." - Chris DiVecchio "Forget about discipline; discipline doesn't mean anything. What we actually need to do right now is care. The people who are at the top of their game in optimal health and wellness are those who care enough about themselves and care enough about their bodies to focus on what contributes to a healthy looking vessel." - Chris DiVecchio   Links From Today's Show Chris DiVecchio Facebook Instagram Twitter Premier Mind & Body Facebook Twitter The 5x2 Method Emergency7 Man loses 70 pounds after his poker buddies bet him $1M that he couldn't TED Talk with Joshua Klein: A thought experiment on the intelligence of crows In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts with Dr. Gabor Mate The 5 Love Languages The Giving Keys Shawn Stevenson WFR 058 Rob Dionne WFR 242 Aaron Hinde About Chris DiVecchio Chris DiVecchio, Founder & Trainer, brings a wealth of self-development transformation mixed with a very practical technique to his fitness training. About WITMA A few keywords on an iPhone note in the spring of 2017 became the beginning of what Well-being in the Modern Age (WITMA) has grown to be. WITMA’s original founders synchronously came together in 2017 from varied backgrounds and disciplines with a shared intention to cultivate an inclusive, and highly conscious event-series exploring what “well-being” truly means in these modern times. By intentionally curating accessible experiences centered on empowering, imaginative, and alternative viewpoints, WITMA seeks to reach like-minded people interested in facilitating the paradigm shift taking place globally - here and now. With over 300 physical attendees, an average panelist reach of about 1.5 million impressions, a live-stream audience of 90+K, and extensive podcast coverage on numerous channels - WITMA's foundational event at Neuehouse in NYC on September 22nd, 2017 proved to feed a need for more conscious community.   Listen To Episode 265 As Jennifer Sodini Uncovers: How Rythmia and plant medicine came into both her and Josh's life. Why she sees the divine feminine as the right hemisphere of the brain and how we can reactivate it. How she came across the idea of the name, of her consciousness media platform, 'Evolve and Ascend' plus what the words personally mean to her. The fear many people faced in 2012 when they believed that the world was going to end according to the Mayan calendar and why it was actually a revelation of truth for us instead. The incredible influence her grandmother had on her upbringing and being a free-thinker. What practical spirituality is in our modern world and how it can benefit others who are seeking help and guidance. How she views her role today in conscious media as a writer and speaker. What steps you can take to teach without being this loud voice. Her upcoming Well-Being In The Modern Age (WITMA) Live event on April 20th in Los Angeles and what you can expect to learn from it. Steps we can take to learn the skillset of forgiveness. Why forgiveness has been one of the most profound learning experiences in her own life. How she stays true to herself through her inner guidance system. Our attitudes towards mass media in the past versus now and why we distrust it so much. Why she decided to let go of and remove her breast implants for the sake of her health and wellness journey progress. The importance of practicing radical authenticity even if it might trigger people negatively. What tools she uses every day on her wellness journey to evolve and ascend. The differences in using Oracle vs. Tarot cards Her process of exploring different emotions including anger. Power Quotes From The Show "Words create worlds. That's why the phrase is called, 'Casting spells,' because you're spelling things into reality. But when you use airy-fairy language or talk about vibrational quantum nonsense, you turn off people. You have to meet people where they're at and demystify the mysticism because science is catching up with what the ancients knew. If you can find ways to transform that into being more unrelatable, that will help so many people on their wellness journeys." - Jennifer Sodini "My biggest heart intention is to find a space and to create experience and content that makes people feel at one with everything and everyone. I want to help people be able to converse with somebody that maybe they perceive as their opposite with an open heart. I want to allow people to be who they are without trying to expect anything more." - Jennifer Sodini "We're in an interesting time where so many of us don't even know what reconnecting to our soul means. We don't even know that we have a soul as spiritual beings and discovering that is so important. When we realize that, we find out that we're so much bigger, important, and powerful than we've ever realized." - Jennifer Sodini "Forgiving ourselves is a constant process but would you treat a child the same way that you treat yourself? Would you speak to a child with such critical, harsh words? This child is your core essence and pure being so don't hurt, harm, or speak to your inner child with such negative words." - Jennifer Sodini   Links From Today's Show Jennifer Sodini Facebook Twitter Instagram WITMA Live Facebook Instagram Evolve + Ascend Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Amenti Oracle: Feather Heart Deck and Guidebook 2012 Time for Change Trailer Abraham-Hicks Publications - Law of Attraction Official Site They Live Aleister Crowley Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender by David R. This book will open your eyes to your own inner world like nothing else has. In reality, most of your suffering is not necessary. It's created by old safety strategies that helped you survive your childhood, but then got stuck in your body and covered up your true self. Today they're an invisible prison, shaping your world, your relationships, and even who you think you are. Have you begun to figure out that something deeper than your conscious awareness is shaping your life? Deciding where your attention goes and what you think and feel? How you make decisions? Even who you love? Here is a map to that inner terrain -- a simple, clear, true-to-life map that gives you the key to understanding everyone, including yourself. This brilliant book has been a game changer in my life. Understanding people this way is like having x-ray vision! This book can change your life. It's already changed the lives of many others. Get yours and discover how you got stuck and how you can get f   "Being present is actually much more rewarding and better than being in any of the 5 personality patterns." - Steven Kessler Listen To Episode 264 As Steven Kessler Uncovers: • The differences between Safety Strategies and Personality Patterns. • How we can get out of a stuck personality loop by being more present with ourselves. • His definition of presence and how he sees it now after so many years of learning and spiritual practice. • How the past remains in our bodies by being fueled by previous traumas. • The most common moments of being present that we find ourselves in but why we find we're unable to live in that feeling for very long. • How he maintains healthy boundaries that allow him a space of presence. • Exercises we can use to practice being present including feeling our core. • The 3 Centers of Intelligence in the body: The Head Center, The Heart Center, and The Belly Center which lay out the foundation for self-confidence. • Why we mistake our patterns and safety strategies for confidence when they're really a prison. • The distortion of our thoughts, emotions, and feelings based on our perception of what we see, hear, and experience. • His mapped out plan for how we can understand our personalities and safety strategies. • Josh's own personality pattern, Enduring, and what people who have this personality pattern should be aware of. • Why he doesn't like the word, "type" in personality type because it's not who you are from birth to death. • How we can recognize when we're in "pattern" and track it; especially when we're feeling overwhelmed. • What he did to become more aware of his own personality patterns and then what steps he took so that it wasn't so attached to him anymore. • How to stay with yourself and respond from a heartfelt place rather than go into a pattern when faced with backlash and criticism. • How you can learn more about your personality pattern through resources on his website and in his book, The 5 Personality Patterns. • Why the inner work we do is endless for the rest of our lives. • His definition of consciousness and why it differs from spirituality. • How plant medicine can be very helpful to open up our experiences beyond the bounds of our personality patterns with the help of an experienced guide. • How uncovering your personality pattern can be a tool for recovering from addiction. Power Quotes From The Show "No one ever finishes their inner work because the mystery is bottomless." - Steven Kessler "Most of us are so used to being in one or more patterns that we think that's who we are. If you ask someone, 'Why do you behave that way?' They'll respond, 'That's just the way I am,' or 'That's all I know,' or 'That's me,' because they're not used to experiencing themselves as presence. They're only used to experiencing themselves in pattern." - Steven Kessler "To be present in the moment is to be here and fully here rather than have an automatic mechanism from the past running in the background that is distorting your perception, thoughts, and feelings. In order to be present now, you cannot be in your personality pattern." - Steven Kessler "We'll select the safety strategies that work the best for us and then repeat them over and over again. As we repeat our favorite safety strategies, they become conditioned into our body and develop into personality patterns. These patterns run automatically as soon as we even feeling slightly overwhelmed." - Steven Kessler "I don't use the term, 'personality types,' because this is not who you are from birth to death. A Personality pattern is a map of safety strategies or what you do rather than who you are." - Steven Kessler   Links From Today's Show Steven Kessler Facebook LinkedIn YouTube Pinterest The 5 Personality Patterns by Steven Kessler Your Personality Profile EFT Therapy Center with Steven Kessler Steven Kessler on 5 Personality Patterns: Understanding Yourself & Others Diamond Heart Meditation School Lynda Caesara Be Here Now by Ram Dass Abraham-Hicks Publications Dr. Gabor Mate WFR 250 Dave Asprey About Steven Kessler Steven Kessler has been studying people his whole life. Power Quotes From The Show "If you don't share your unique gifts, talents, and passions, it'll eat you up inside. It's just a matter of time before it makes you miserable because you will be further and further away from your purpose." - Charles Clay "The body is able to heal when we learn how to breathe properly. Proper breathing allows us to relax the nervous system in a way that we might not have been used to before. My breathwork practice has now evolved to what I call expansion breathing which is a really simple, experiential breath technique that starts recalibrating the way we breathe. Once you combine that with the optimal activation of your core and the alignment of your body, you have yourself a technique called the Bulletproof Core." - Charles Clay "When people have the tools to really feel, let go, and transmute anger into something constructive, then they can easily move into courage, hope, and back to their natural state of joy." - Charles Clay "Neurokinetic therapy gave me incredible results and has become this amazing tool that I now use to uncover the deeper layers. Through it, we can address the metaphysical, emotional, and physiological aspects to help release tension, activate muscle, and restore function in the body. Once you restore function, there's no need for pain. Pain is the check engine light and understanding that has changed my whole mindset about pain. The carnivore diet that has recently taken off in the last couple of years. Power Quotes From The Show "If you can afford to eat grass-fed, then eat fattier cuts of meat but if you can only afford to eat traditional meat, then eat as lean of meat as possible." - Shawn Mihalik "Crops such as wheat, rice, and soy take a lot of resources and deplete the soil. In comparison, regenerative farms, take us to a whole other level of farming. If done right, they can be carbon positive. If you were to eat animals that were raised this way, you would be actively helping the environment because it nourishes the soil, actively restores grasslands, and new wildlife if brought into the area." - Shawn Mihalik "Most animals that we eat today are not fed the grasses that they were evolved to eat but wheat, soy, and corn which are heavily modified. This then leads the animals to develop a whole different omega 3 to omega 6 ratio than what our ancestors ate. We can still find the same type of meat that our ancestors ate but the majority of us are eating animals that have been raised in these stressful, abusive environments and we're eating the energy of these animals." - Shawn Mihalik "Most of our current cropland is actually being used to grow the wheat, corn, and soy that is feeding factory farmed animals; not to grow what's feeding humans and that is part of why we currently have a food shortage. So, if everybody ate sustainably grown meat, we would be repurposing a lot of that land and replenishing that soil as well. In addition, we probably wouldn't be eating as much meat as we currently do now but we would be eating higher quality meat." - Shawn Mihalik Links From Today's Show Shawn Mihalik Twitter Facebook Paleo Magazine Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Pinterest Paleo Magazine Radio  PMR #249: Can We Fix Meat? We all face wars inside of us. Some are self-doubt, regret, loneliness, fear of failure, and the need to be in control but we have weapons. Our weapons are love, good friends, exercise, nutrition, rest, and living in each and every moment. - Dr. Theresa Larson Are you holding back from asking for help out of fear of judgment, shame, or appearing weak?   ---> Join the Wellness Warrior VIP Club: get exclusive discounts on new wellness tools, be first in line for new podcasts, get access to invite-only events, and so much more.** ---> Get The Morning 21: A powerful (and free) system designed to give you more energy, let go of old weight, and live life well. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | *REVIEW THIS PODCAST   In Wellness Force Radio episode 261, Author of Warrior: A Memoir, Physical Therapist at MovementRx, Host of the My New Normal Podcast, and former Marine Corps Engineer Officer and Combat Veteran, Dr. Theresa Larson, shares how the loss of her mother led to her bulimia, why it's a sign of strength to ask for help, and what helps her stay centered, balanced, and focused on herself by setting healthy boundaries. Discover how to become your own warrior of wellness with Dr. Theresa's LOVE Principle: Lead  Oxygen Vulnerability Elasticity Warrior by Dr. Theresa Larson Click here to read Warrior: A Memoir by Dr. Theresa Larson In this inspiring memoir, a former female Marine platoon leader recalls the wars she has fought—on the playing field, the battlefield, and inside her own soul—revealing how overcoming the harrowing circumstances in her life helped her ultimately redefine what it means to be strong and what “perfect” really is. Theresa Larson has lived multiple lives. At ten she was a caregiver to her dying mother. As an adolescent, an All-Star high school, college, and professional softball player. As a young adult, a fitness competition winner, beauty pageant contestant, and model. And as a grown woman, a high-achieving Lieutenant in the Marines, in charge of an entire platoon while deployed in Iraq. Meanwhile, Theresa was battling bulimia nervosa, an internal struggle which ultimately cut short her military service when she was voluntarily evacuated from combat. Theresa’s journey to wellness required the bravery to ask for help, to take care of herself first, and abandon the idea of “perfect.” In Warrior, she lays bare all of these lives in intimate and vivid detail, examining extremely personal and sometimes painful moments and how, by finally accepting the help of others, she learned to make herself whole. From growing up in a log cabin outside Seattle to facing down the enemy in Iraq, Theresa’s journey demonstrates that good health and happiness is a daily, intentional act that requires persistence and commitment. Theresa hopes that through sharing her story, she will help inspire others to empower themselves, embrace their inner warrior and re-define strength. Startling and funny, terrifying and triumphant, heartbreaking and inspirational, Warrior is at heart a story of perseverance and success—of a determined woman who is model for everyone struggling to conquer their own demons. Theresa shows that asking for help can be an act of courage and that we are stronger than we think when faced with seemingly impossible odds.   "We all face wars inside of us but our weapons are love, good friends, exercise, nutrition, rest, and living in each and every moment." - Dr. Theresa Larson Listen To Episode 261 As Dr. Theresa Larson Uncovers: Why a true warrior is someone who is open to being vulnerable, asking for help, and taking ownership for yourself. How her bulimia began and how she transitioned out for it when she finally asked for help and received the outside support she needed. Her childhood and the story she told herself after her mother's death that to be loved, she had to achieve. The special relationship she had with her mother and why The Phantom Of The Opera meant so much to them. The words of advice and love from her mother that have made a lasting impact on her own life and wellness journey. Why there's always a way out if you're struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. How the sport of softball helped give her power, control, and positive affirmations. The need she had to win and be noticed by everybody as a young athlete which then led to her struggling to take care of herself. How she and her brothers helped their father improve his health and bounce back with purpose after the passing of his wife. Why the more pressure people face, the more it exasperates undealt demons. Why eating disorders aren't about food but an addiction that begins in the soul and the lack of belief in oneself. The judgment she felt from other people when she went on medical leave during her deployment in Iraq. Why judgment and dismissing opinions will only feed a person's addiction and negative behavior patterns. The various tools of distraction we face today in modern society and how they affect our health, relationships, and wellness journey. Steps she takes to set up healthy boundaries to stay true to her purpose, take care of her health, and be there for her family. How she handles being the North Star in her own life without her parents no longer being there to support her. What skills we can focus on obtaining to learn how to live in and embrace the present moment. Why multitasking is taking away from your self-care practice and attention to life. How to fill your cup by first spending time alone to self-reflect, get your thoughts out there, and get to know yourself. The toll that invisible wounds like eating disorders can take on people and why you should never compare your issues to other people's. Power Quotes From The Show "People shouldn't have to wait as long as I did to ask for help. There should be support already there for these individuals that are going to war. As our children grow up, we should be teaching them coping skills and that it's okay to be vulnerable. I find that the more vulnerable I am, the more authentic and powerful I am as an individual." - Dr. Theresa Larson  "You can look great from the outside and have all of this success but I want to know how you truly are, how you handle stress, and how you're coping with what you're experiencing. Asking other people or even yourself those kinds of questions matter. How are you coping? Do you have anything going on in your life where you just feel empty inside? Find out why that is and what's causing you to feel that way because that is not living." - Dr. Theresa Larson "Life is chaotic as it is and we have to let go of distraction. Put your technology away and don't have it with you at the dinner table or when you go out to eat lunch with your family. When you're doing a task whether at work or at home, solely be present with doing that task. Multitasking actually makes you really ineffective and scatterbrained. The key is to clear your attention when you're feeling overwhelmed, let distractions go, and be present with the person in front of you because that dopamine response you get is going to be so much greater." - Dr. Theresa Larson     Links From Today's Show Dr. Theresa Larson Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Movement Rx Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Warrior: A Memoir by Dr. Theresa Larson My New Normal Podcast MobilityWOD The Low Back Fix The Knee Fix The Shoulder Fix What Being a Warrior Really Means | Theresa Larson | TEDxUCSD From Sports to Inner Struggles, Former Marine Lieutenant is a Warrior Helping Others Michael Phelps Gets Real About Mental Illness Organifi - Ashwagandha Study  Body For Life War and the Soul by Edward Tick Gabor Mate Simon Sinek WFR 164 Anders Varner About Dr. Theresa Larson Dr. Theresa Larson (aka “Dr. T”) has become one of the fitness world’s most sought after experts on movement health. How suicidal thoughts are a by-product of not living in our truth and being in a haze of pain when we think there's no alternative. The plunge he took to really feel his emotions and move beyond his pain by giving himself permission to fully feel and live by intention. The meaning behind the powerful question we can ask ourselves during tense moments, "What would love do now?" Changing the brain physiology via neural empowerment and mapping through breathwork, journaling, and counseling. How to change your attitude, behavior, and focus in 3-seconds. How breathwork literally saved his life and the various techniques he practices for trauma. How the experiences we have from ages 0-7 impact and affect our adult relationships. Various types of relationships from polyamory to monogamy and which one he resonates with the most. Why people consciousnessly put themselves through pain instead of allowing nature to take the lead. Some qualities men can learn to master in order to go from being good to great. The natural segregation that happens in society and how it's come to an extreme point in our modern world. Power Quotes From The Show "Stress' is the high-achiever's word for 'fear.'" - Stefanos Sifandos  "Compensatory strategies are developed and cultivated when we're very young and we bring them into our adult lives and relationships. However, they don't really have a place. We don't need to behave in that extreme yet we do anyway because we're coming from a set of unconscious feelings or fears. So, when we begin to do a self-inventory, it's normal that we don't really know where to look, it's really difficult to do on our own, and we feel stuck in our trauma." - Stefanos Sifandos "Instead of justifying our trauma, pain, and fear as being normal parts of our lives, we need an inventory. Something that we could be taught as young people is to take regular inventory of our lives. Whether or not you think something is "wrong" with you, at the end of every day, take inventory of your life. How did you behave and think? Were you happy with your thoughts and interactions? How did you relate to others? How did you give and receive love? Did you experience pain, fear, or discomfort? What was the cause of discomfort? Have you noticed those patterns of discomfort before? We're not taught to be self-reflective or self-critical in our culture often enough." - Stefanos Sifandos "I don't like to say, 'I'm stressed,' because it makes me feel weak. I'd rather say, 'I'm scared' of something. I don't have a healthy fear with stress and underpinning that is a fear as well. To me, saying, 'I'm stressed,' is like saying, 'I'm not good enough to cope with what I'm producing, doing, or facing,' and I don't like that." - Stefanos Sifandos "What does it mean to have a yearning to actually grow and be better than you were yesterday? I don't know what it means for you; that's something you have to answer on your own. When we start paying attention to ourselves through conscious awareness, we get to learn more about ourselves but we also have to be okay with being uncomfortable. If we unpack something that's painful, there are several tools available to us that we can use: journaling, support groups, psychologists, spiritual work, or anything that resonates with you that can help. That will help you cultivate resilience in the body and in the mind." - Stefanos Sifandos "The desire to be self-reflective requires work and effort. Today, in contemporary times without the application of effort, we're losing the essence of who we are as men. As we've evolutionarily grown, we have become accustomed to being in involatile environments. Our bodies are made to work and the more physical work the body does, the healthier the body is."  - Stefanos Sifandos "Too many men live in lies and we come across either shady, confused, manipulative, or untrustworthy. Why do we do that? It's because we're valuing values like status, accumulation of material goods, or how others see us over being just genuine and living in our truth. We don't even realize we're doing it and if you want to be attractive to a woman, you have to be the truth." - Stefanos Sifandos    Links From Today's Show Stefanos Sifandos Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube LinkedIn Pinterest Reclaim Your Kingdom Conscious Mentorship Program Alchemy Academy SoulPlay Retreats Dr. John Demartini Dr. Joe Dispenza Jordan Peterson David Deida Byron Katie Dr. Peter Levine The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk Dr. Harville Hendrix Keeping the Love You Find by Dr. Harville Hendrix Tony Robbins WFR 086 Mark Divine WFR 132 Christine Hassler WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 196 Aubrey Marcus WFR 217 Steph Gaudreau WFR 245 Peter Sage WFR 258 Boysen Hodgson About Stefanos Sifandos Stefanos is a Relational Alchemist, International Speaker and Author who facilitates transformational growth through neuro-empowerment practices, an integration of spiritual praxis and western psychology to improve, evolve and enhance the quality of your relationships. Discover how functional medicine, community micro practice, and direct primary care will change the future of healthcare as we know it. KNEW Health Finally, the alternative to expensive health insurance you've been waiting for. Click here to learn more about KNEW Health today. KNEW Health is not an insurance company. We are a community of healthy, happy, wellness-minded individuals like yourself, who work together to stay well and contribute to a community fund to support one another’s large medical bills. Think of this as a safety net for large, unexpected medical costs. Because you take care of your health, you’re likely to need less medical expense support — so why should you pay insane insurance premiums when you can have your large expenses supported by our Medical Cost-Sharing Community that is over 10,000 members strong? With conventional health insurance, you–the healthy person who exercises, doesn’t smoke, and eats fresh fruits and vegetables–are subsidizing the medical expenses of people who smoke, don’t exercise, and eat junk food all day. How unfair is that? Furthermore, with health insurance, it’s likely you’re paying these high premiums and yet not using many of your benefits. That’s money down the drain each and every month. At KNEW Health, you’ll be paying so much less each month–which gives you more money to invest in wellness and preventative care, such as fitness classes, acupuncture, massage, healthy fresh food, and herbs and supplements. Wouldn’t you rather invest your monthly health expenses into life-giving wellness care, rather than sending that money to faceless health insurance bureaucracies, never to be seen again? By making a commitment to living a healthy lifestyle, you’re helping transform health care.   "Many of us don't need these expensive medical visits, lab tests, and pharmaceuticals. Most chronic disease is driven by lifestyle and can be fixed by lifestyle." - James Maskell Listen To Episode 259 As James Maskell Uncovers: KNEW Health - What it is, how it can help you, and how it's changing the narrative around healthy lifestyles and self-awareness. Why he did the KNEW Health Tour - a 4-month family trip to launch evolution of alternative health. Why functional medicine goes much further into our health's journey than just a couple of lab tests. How functional medicine can help prevent the body from degrading, slowing down, and experiencing chronic disease. The Community Micro Practice - how it's benefiting the world of functional medicine and changing the lives of both healthcare practitioners and their patients. The vital importance of looking at our emotions and past traumas so that they do not manifest into a disease. Steps people can take to begin looking for a functional medicine practitioner that's right for them. What Direct Primary Care is and how it can improve a doctor's relationship with patients and the ability to afford healthcare. His 3-part strategy for the true transformation of healthcare explained. The high amount of insurance he was facing while living and working in New York City and what answers he found when he sought out different opportunities. His mission to begin his own program to help people save money on insurance and encourage others to reach out to functional medical doctors when they really need it. The experiences that transformed his life and drove him to keep going in his mission and see this functional medicine movement through. How the company, Heal, is changing healthcare by having practitioners go straight to the patients' homes. The flood of new applications and tools that are available right now such as GoodRx and MDSave which can help you cut down on the price of healthcare. His explanation for why it's unlikely that functional medicine will be delivered through health insurance anytime soon. Why it's easier to change your behavior and reduce chronic disease while in a group environment compared to working one-on-one with a singular healthcare provider. How healing with psychedelics and marijuana can play a part in functional medicine. The first step you can take towards shifting your health by finding a community environment that can help you. "More medicine doesn't actually equal better health outcomes. In fact, the more you use the medical system, the worse your off your health outcomes are going to be in the long run." - James Maskell "Functional medicine is a new operating system of delivering health that is focused on three main principles: root cause resolution, holistic viewpoint, and participatory system. What really differentiates functional medicine from integrative, naturopathic, or holistic medicine is that it's a reproducible system and structure which helps everyone follow the same steps. In that sense, it prioritizes what you should be doing in a specific order and that makes it much more efficient than other methods." - James Maskell "The most effective way that functional medicine is being delivered is through a group format such as that at The Cleveland Clinic. There's really something powerful about the vulnerability of being in front of a group and the community that's created by being amongst supportive peers." - James Maskell "What will it take to facilitate a consciousness transformation in how we view healthcare? There is a very clear engine of transformation consciousness that happens when people go to a functional medicine doctor. Masculinity and femininity are inherently beautiful, yet the media has distorted these words with the phrase “toxic.” Together, now we get to decide as a culture how to move forward with a new narrative. Society is changing, and we’re not going backward. - Boysen Hodgson What factors of our culture and society are no longer serving the feminine and masculine? How can we come and work together to create something new that fits what we want?   ---> Join the Wellness Warrior VIP Club: get exclusive discounts on new wellness tools, be first in line for new podcasts, get access to invite-only events, and so much more.** ---> Get The Morning 21: A powerful (and free) system designed to give you more energy, let go of old weight, and live life well. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | *REVIEW THIS PODCAST   In Wellness Force Radio episode 258, Marketing & Communications Director for The ManKind Project USA and author of The New Macho, Boysen Hodgson, explains what has created "toxic" masculinity and feminity, how men and women can process and connect through safe spaces, and the #IAmResponsible Campaign that MKP has launched in response to #MeToo. Learn how men can support each other to heal from their past traumas, come to their whole masculine and feminine selves, and realign with women. The ManKind Project Presents: The New Warrior Training Adventure Click here to sign up for The New Warrior Training Adventure The New Warrior Training Adventure: A life-changing 48-hour experience brought to you by the ManKind Project, an international nonprofit organization. The New Warrior Training Adventure is a challenging real-time hero's journey. It's safe, supportive and cutting edge. It is not a retreat, a conference or a workshop. It is unlike anything you've done before. Many men say that this experience is a turning point in their lives, an event that marks the beginning of a new way of being in the world. It is a singular type of life-affirming event, honoring the best in what men have to offer the planet. We are only able to recognize the powerful brilliance of men because we are willing to look at, and take full responsibility for, the pain we are also capable of creating ... and suffering. This is the paradox of modern masculinity, and it is a lesson we are dedicated to learning and teaching. The New Warrior Training Adventure is a modern male initiation and self-examination. We believe that this is crucial to the development of a healthy and mature male self, no matter how old a man is. It is the "hero's journey" of classical literature and myth that has nearly disappeared in modern culture. We ask men to stop living vicariously through movies, television, addictions, and distractions and step up into their own adventure - in real time and surrounded by other men. What we practice at The New Warrior Training Adventure and why: Emotional Authenticity - Because we believe in honesty and wholeness ... we practice emotional intelligence and self-awareness. Personal Responsibility - Because we value integrity and accountability ... we take 100% responsibility for our feelings, and we own the impacts - both positive and negative - of our choices and actions. Leadership Mastery - Because we believe that role models change lives ... we practice highly principled personal, interpersonal, and group leadership. Empowered Mission - Because we value generosity, service, and connection to spirit ... we explore and live from our deepest purpose. Supportive Community - Because we care for ourselves and the generations to come ... we create a place for men from all walks of life to learn and teach in a safe, respectful, challenging, and inclusive peer-network.       "We need emotional expression, vulnerability, and softness in men. We need men as nurturers. What is a farmer if not a nurturer? We need that in our world today." - Boysen Hodgson Listen To Episode 258 As Boysen Hodgson Uncovers: The ManKind's mission as a non-profit and the work they do which includes men's groups all over the US, over 150 global training programs, and The New Warrior Training Adventure. Some of his top influences including David Deida and authors of King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine, Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette. Why more than ever we need to teach men that they can express their emotions, be vulnerable, and more nurturing. The narrative and division we see in the media focusing on "toxic" femininity and masculinity. Where the phrase, "toxic" masculinity comes from as a counterpoint to "deep" masculinity. "Toxic" masculinity compared to "toxic" femininity in a world of disconnection and the wave of the feminist movement. How today's modern world is affecting men in the workplace, at home, and higher rates of depression and suicide. Epigenetics and long legacies of trauma that has been inflicted on portions of our society. The powerful practices of moving, zen, and sitting meditation. How they use various archetypes to embody different energies during their Men's Work at MKP. Why the archetype, Sovereignty, is so important for both the masculine and the feminine. The power of purpose and how it and the sovereign energy directly impact your life. Where he was at in his purpose, thoughts, and relationships during his 20s vs. now as a husband, father, and part of MKP's mission. Lessons he learned from observing his father's relationships, his own unhealthy relationship, and processing all of that before he could let go and become his own purpose. How men and women can process and connect together and alone through safe spaces. How men can support each other to heal from their past traumas, come to their whole masculine and feminine selves, and realign with women who've also done the work. How "pink collar jobs" such as teaching have created a divide between men and women as far as what careers are acceptable for each gender. How doing men's work has helped him tap into his himself and his inner Golden Child to help the relationship he has with his children grow. Power Quotes From The Show "As a society, we have to slow down, be present, and get quiet. It's only in that quiet that I can hear my soul or that I can create the possibility to hear yours." - Boysen Hodgson "We have launched a campaign, #IAmResponsible, in response to #MeToo. It's not about, 'Hey, Brother - I'm responsible for your actions' but 'I'm 100% responsible for my actions, for creating the type of culture that I want to live in, and for what masculinity looks like today." - Boysen Hodgson  "At men's group, 'breathe' is probably the first and most powerful incantation that I can do with a man doing a piece of emotional process work. Where are you breathing, how are you breathing into your body, where do I see you inhabiting breath into your body? When you stop breathing, that tells me something about what you're going through." - Boysen Hodgson "Both men and women whether individually or in groups, let's trust each other enough to let us do that work. Society has changed and we're not going backward. What the world needs from us as men is different than what the world needed from us then. Let's move toward the evolution of creating beautiful hearts that want to be connected, loved, shared, and protected." - Boysen Hodgson  "The environment has to be painful enough to motivate a man enough to take action. Men will have a sense in their gut that it's time to do something. So, what we can all do as men is to create and hold a space for when you see a man in your life who you know is experiencing that." - Boysen Hodgson "Men will show up. Men are hungry to be healthy influences and role models. We can fix our community by showing up as men. Through #IAmResponsible, we're stating that we are 100% responsible for our actions, for creating the type of culture that we want to live in, and for what masculinity looks like today."  - Boysen Hodgson   Links From Today's Show Boysen Hodgson Facebook Twitter LinkedIn The ManKindProject Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube The New Warrior Training Adventure The New Macho by Boysen Hodgson #IAmResponsible Campaign David Deida King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette Dr. Robert Augustus Masters Iron John by Robert Bly The Art of Charm Podcast Dr. Shepherd Bliss The End of Men by Hanna Rosin We Believe: The Best Men Can Be | Gillette (Short Film) Integral Meditation by Ken Wilbur Planet on Purpose by Brandon Peele Amber Ward of Life UnLtd The M21 Guide from Wellness Force WFR 149 Johnny Blackburn   About Boysen Hodgson Boysen Hodgson is the author of ‘The New Macho,’ a credo for the mature masculine. What patterns of difficulty she noticed in high achievers, executives, and celebrities like Britney Spears while helping them build healthier lifestyles. Her experience working for the music industry in marketing and how she transitioned from that into helping train the artists as a personal fitness coach. How her fitness habits evolved into new strategies once she became a mom which she shares in her latest book and program, Badass Body Goals. Her 4-3-2-1 HIIT fitness program to help people, especially busy moms, get fit and get great results. Why HIIT training is the most effective way to burn the most amount of calories in the least amount of time yet you shouldn't do it every day. The importance of constantly tweaking your workouts to stay strong, in shape, and get more results every day. Why exercise isn't enough unless you also focus on a healthier diet, mental health, hydration, stretching, mobility, and more. What drives her to keep creating content when life is challenging. The importance of always growing both emotionally and spiritually in your own unique wellness journey. How to lead by example and why that's the best motivation for anybody. The 6-morning habits that are destroying our productivity. Why hitting the snooze button is making you less productive, gives you less energy, and makes you procrastinate for the rest of the day. Why we're not getting enough human interaction and what we can do to turn things around by having a conversation within the first hours of being awake. Strategic practices she helps her executive clients work on to keep them healthy during their busy, long working hours. How you can know when it's time to let go of your personal trainer. What she does to balance her career and family life in order to help alleviate overwhelm. How she helped create a strategy to help her stay on track and avoid pitfalls in her healthy lifestyle through discipline and goals. The vital importance of relieving stress and how you can do that through balance and finding what makes you happy in multiple areas. Power Quotes From The Show "Being mentally fit makes you physically fit. Being present, conscious, having set intentions and goals is the most important part. Losing weight and staying fit is a by-product of all of that." - Jennifer Cohen "All of your focus on fitness is for naught if your diet is not there. 80% of your results come from what you eat and the other 20% is tweaking and toning your workouts. You can't do one without the other."  - Jennifer Cohen "As we get older and have more stressors in life, it's important that we do a lot for our wellness and mind through a holistic approach that's not just nutrition and exercise. What are you doing for your wellbeing? What are you doing for your reflection? Are you drinking enough water? What are you doing for your mobility; are you stretching? There are a lot of different things in the wellness umbrella that are important."  - Jennifer Cohen "Having a goal of getting stronger versus getting skinnier is a more positive message than just losing weight and it's a healthier place to be mentally. Exercise helps to build confidence and mental strength. The stronger you get physically, the more confidence you will have and the stronger you will feel mentally."  - Jennifer Cohen "Motivation comes and goes. You can go to a Tony Robbins seminar and be super motivated and then within the next day, that feeling starts to wane. Same with willpower; it ebbs and flows. You shouldn't be relying on motivation and willpower; you have to build healthy habits and routines to keep you on a path for long-term success. Once you're on autopilot with that healthy behavior and you don't even have to think about exercise or nutrition,  you can use your brain for other things that need your attention." - Jennifer Cohen Links From Today's Show   Jennifer Cohen Facebook Twitter Instagram Badass Body Goals Strong Is The New Skinny No Gym Required Habits & Hustle Podcast 6 Morning Habits That Are Destroying Your Productivity No-Gym Workout With Jennifer Cohen Surrounding Yourself With The Right People Changes Everything Four Ways Your Inner Circle Is Crucial To Your Success 10 Things Healthy People Have in Common How to Set Fitness Goals You'll Actually Achieve This No-Gym, HIIT Workout Gets the Job Done in 10 Minutes A Winter Workout to Improve Your Focus About Jennifer Cohen Jennifer Cohen is a leading fitness and wellness authority, best-selling author, entrepreneur and frequent guest on national media.  She was recently named in “ Greatist” 100 most influential people in Health and Fitness and #16 Most Impactful Fitness Entrepreneurs on Web MD. Most personal development is all about the big and bold vision, yet these days we're not missing ambition or dreamers... We're missing results and execution. Enter The 1% Rule — a daily system designed to help you close the gap without the crushing pressure that has kept you stuck in the past. The 1% Rule was designed to answer three core questions: Why do some people seem to achieve massive success with everything they do — while others can't seem to get out of their own way? What separates those who get excited and inspired for a season, a quarter or a few months — and those who are consistently on fire? What are the mindsets, principles, routines, and behaviors of those who execute daily, and those who sit on the sidelines pondering? ...through answering these questions over the last decade in the trenches with thousands of people — they are now the framework of The 1% Rule and are yours today. "All transformation is emotional. Whether you want to lose ten pounds or grow your business, you're going to have that emotional battle that comes with change and getting uncomfortable." - Tommy Baker     Listen To Episode 254 As Tommy Baker Uncovers: What the 1% rule actually is and his mission to share it with the world to help you win the day. Why the constant hustle and bustle isn't even doing you any good by creating constant overwhelm. His experience in a float tank and how it allowed him to explore his thoughts and eventually change his life. How he let go of everything in his life to up and move out west to Arizona for a new pace and environment. The power of not getting caught up in thinking 'how' you're going to make something happen. What the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen is all about and how it relates to the 1%. Why you can't make the most out of life transformations without being focused on small developments that can help you build a foundation. Why he focuses on purpose, attention, and action rather than 'hustle' when he wakes up every day at 4 AM. How he began to lean into his own emotions and feel each feeling for greater emotional intelligence. His experience working with entrepreneurs and helping them navigate their dark emotions, lack of something missing in their lives, and thoughts of self-hate for greater inner peace. How getting radically honest with yourself without judgment will open new doors. One of his own biggest breakdowns that allowed him to have the breakthrough he needed. How one of his greatest breakthroughs came from finally surrendering which then allowed him to heal from his illness. The steps you can take to embrace all of the emotions you feel, the breakdowns you experience, and your individual wellness journey. How you can practice surrender and letting go on a daily basis. A deep look into the biology and energetics of the law of attraction. Why both failure and success can equally crumble you if you don't do the emotional inner work. Power Quotes From The Show "So many breakthroughs come during breakdowns because that's when the band-aid is ripped off and we're actually willing to take an honest look at ourselves. That's when change happens." - Tommy Baker "We can grasp all of the answers we need in the moments of silence and where our inspiration lies. Anywhere in which you feel a pull, there are your answers. If you give yourself enough space, all of the answers you need will come up. All of the distraction, noise, and stimulus you face elsewhere is just blocking the answers but if you dig deep, you can get them back." - Tommy Baker "Ultimately, emotions can be used in one of two ways: to create or to destroy. If we don't understand our emotions, we become lost and often take the destructive route through bad habits that destroy our bodies or relationships. Getting to know oneself is a beautiful journey and you have to be okay with these "negative emotions" which aren't even negative emotions. If we have the courage to dig deep enough into the dark, there's always going to be something in there like a moment of clarity or new opportunity that we never noticed saw before." - Tommy Baker "A lot of people talk about unconditional love with others but what about unconditional love with ourselves? Are we willing to face ourselves with these dark emotions and not judge ourselves or feel guilty but just be a witness to them and appreciate ourselves despite our flaws?" - Tommy Baker   Links From Today's Show Tommy Baker Facebook Twitter Instagram Resist Average Academy Facebook Instagram YouTube Resist Average Academy Podcast UnResolution The 1% Rule The Leap of Your Life by Tommy Baker | Pre-Order Now Tommy Baker - Influencive Blogs Self-Resilience | essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson Guided Abundance Meditation | Bob Proctor Dr. John DeMartini | The Law of Attraction Dr. John DeMartini Kaizen Alan Watts Zhuang Zhou Joseph Campbell Gary Vaynerchuk David Deida Dr. Joe Dispenza Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert WFR 055 Gay and Katie Hendricks About Tommy Baker Ever get excited and inspired by a bold vision -- then completely get lost on what to do next? How to set up your morning practice to connect with yourself and the world around you for better wellness. Power Quotes From The Show "Emotions are energy in motion. They're meant to be fluid so that when we embrace and feel them, they move through us. They don't get stuck unless we don't allow ourselves to feel them." - Dr. Brenda Walding "A lot of my healing process focused on embracing the feminine energy by dropping into my heart and feeling my feelings. Instead of being this charging athlete, I turned towards learning how to flow and dance with music. That started to wake up this creative, feminine energy within me that I had not known before. It felt so good to begin to be aware of my feminine power. There is power in this feminine way of being and it's not a weakness; it's just a different way for women to express themselves. As women, we're not meant to express ourselves and be powerful in a masculine way; we can be powerful in a feminine way."  - Dr. Brenda Walding "I had this sense that I was ill because there was something wrong with me or I wasn't worthy of God's love but the more I read and did the inner work, I realized something. The God that is love does not punish or create disease and that fundamental belief that somehow I deserve to be punished was blocking my healing. So, switching to thinking about how this power that created me, the cosmos, these beautiful sunsets, and this extraordinary world is also within me helped me to become more open to experiencing and receiving this healing." - Dr. Brenda Walding  "If we can begin to open or shift our perception that disease is potentially this divine opportunity and this catalyst for radical growth and transformation, we can really go in and remove all that isn't us and awaken to the truth of who we really are." - Dr. Brenda Walding  "We all have this deep desire to live our best life and feel peace, happiness, purpose, passion, and connection but the only way to experience our optimal life is to feel. Part of the human experience is this symphony of emotions from happiness and joy to sadness and anger. Embracing all of these contrasting emotions is what it means to be human. So, give yourself permission to feel those feelings. Feel each feeling and love what you feel. No matter what it is, love that feeling." - Dr. Brenda Walding   Links From Today's Show Dr. Brenda Walding Facebook Instagram Email at risetoradiance@gmail.com  NativePath Facebook Twitter  Instagram Sick of Being Sick by Dr. Brenda Walding The Anti-Inflammatory Diet Guide by Dr. Chad Walding and Dr. Brenda Walding Well Being Journal Doctor's Guide to Wild Oregano Oil - 101 Uses - Cass Ingram The Cure Is In The Cupboard by Dr. Cass Ingram Marianne Williamson Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol K. When you do that, you're making an active choice to not show up and be the best version of yourself that you can be." - Harpreet Rai     Listen To Episode 252 As Harpreet Rai Uncovers: How Oura is helping people with their weight loss progress through tracking and teaching them about their sleep status. The guilt he first faced when leaving work to go exercise and how he got over that feeling. The three barriers we face that keep us from focusing on our health: time, money, and guilt. How the Oura ring acts as a mirror of mindfulness to help us keep showing up in life. The alarming amount of Americans that are currently taking medication for sleep How social media, smartphones, and even Netflix are amplifying our stress and anxiety which then leads us to poor sleeping habits. The little amount of sleep he was getting a night at 4 hours while being an investment banker and how that led to gaining a pound each week. The importance of starting our day at the exact same time every morning and being exposed to sunlight throughout the day. How self-monitoring our sleep patterns can be just what we need to help change our behavior and habits. The wellness journey of one Oura ring user and how cutting out the 4 o'clock coffee helped him go back to a normal sleep cycle. The latency feature of the Oura ring that tells you how long it takes you to fall asleep and why you shouldn't be falling asleep right away. How breath is integrated into Oura and the technology aspect with the respiration rate. Why they chose a ring as their product from both a comfort and accuracy standpoint. Why no single wearable is 100% accurate but the most important thing to consider is precision in the day to day data. How they've designed the Oura ring to be very accurate in its precision to help the individual track their sleep and health. Results Oura users have seen reflected in their data when they've made changes to create a better sleeping atmosphere. How the 5 senses change when we're sleeping and how to create your best night's sleep experience. The benefits of relaxing and stretching before bed that we don't normally consider. How Oura can lead the charge in conversations about personal development through the use of mindfulness and wellness technology. Power Quotes From The Show "If you don't measure something, how does it get mastered? But is sleep the be all end all? No; I think there are so many things we need to do to be great humans and sleep is a great place to start." - Harpreet Rai "Addiction to our phones and social media has completely amplified our poor sleeping habits. Our stress and anxiety are leading to poor nutrition and weight gain. We can't sleep well if we're being pulled in different directions by every notification that pops up on our phones." - Harpreet Rai "When people start to see personal data that pertains to themselves, they begin to question those findings. You might ask yourself, 'Why am I not getting any deep sleep?' and then you seek answers from other Oura users, podcasts, or books. Once you just start to see the data becoming personal, you'll start to reflect, change habits, and notice patterns." - Harpreet Rai "If you rewind thirty or forty years ago and before the Internet, we probably used to be able to naturally tell whether or not we got a good's night rest and feel the difference. We used to feel and think about our sleeping patterns a lot more but now we're so distracted and I don't think we have time to feel. Now that we're busier than ever, it's harder for us to take the time to concentrate on what our bodies are telling us and therefore, tracking makes more sense now than it ever did before. Tracking holds you accountable as you start to look at the data and ask yourself simple questions that can lead to lifestyle changes." - Harpreet Rai "If you don't measure something, how does it get mastered? But is sleep the be all end all? No; I think there are so many things we need to do to be great humans and sleep is a great place to start. If you don't sleep properly, it's probably going to be harder to eat better, exercise more, and just be a good human being. Sleep sets you up on the right track to succeed." - Harpreet Rai   Links From Today's Show Harpreet Rai LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Twitter ŌURA Twitter Facebook Instagram YouTube Vimeo WFR 160 Petteri Lahtela - Co-Founder, President, and CIO of Oura The NEW Oura Ring The Philosophy Behind Oura Oura user @sandiegojoey on Instagram Find Your Own Circadian Rhythm Ten Ways to Sleep Better Right Now Heart Rate While Sleeping: Look for These 3 Patterns Nobel Prize for discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm Why Your Brain Feels So Foggy From Sleep Deprivation Sleep deprivation and hippocampal vulnerability A single night of sleep deprivation #53 Harpreet Rai | Human Optimization Hour w/Kyle Kingsbury Strategy of Monitoring: Gretchen Rubin Center For Sleep And Cognition Joe Rogan Experience #1109 - Matthew Walker - YouTube Nick Littlehales' Guide to Understanding Sleep Ethan Weiss | UCSF Profiles Kelly Starrett Dr. Rebecca Robbins Dr. Joseph Mercola Ben Greenfield The Morning 21 WFR 125 Dr. Kirk Parsley WFR 129 Gretchen Rubin WFR 206 Dan Pardi WFR 250 Dave Asprey About Oura Health        Join The Wellness Warrior VIP Club:  **Click on the photo above to get exclusive discounts on new wellness tools, be first in line for new podcasts, get access to invite-only events, and so much more.**   More Top Episodes 226 Paul Chek: The Revolution Is Coming (3 Part Series) 131 Drew Manning: Emotional Fitness 129 Gretchen Rubin: The Four Tendencies  183 Dr. Kyra Bobinet: Brain Science 196 Aubrey Marcus: Own The Day 103 Robb Wolf: Wired To Eat Best of The Best: The Top 10 Guests From over 200 Shows Get More Wellness In Your Life Join the WFR Community on facebook Tweet us on Twitter: Send us a fun tweet (or a what's up) Comment on the Facebook page Rate & Review Wellness Force

When Dave Asprey started his Bulletproof Radio podcast more than five years ago, he sought out influencers in an array of disciplines, from biochemists toiling in unknown laboratories to business leaders changing the world to meditation masters discovering inner peace. His guests were some of the top performing humans in the world, people who had changed their areas of study or even pioneered entirely new fields. Dave wanted to know: What did they have in common? What mattered most to them? What made them so successful—and what made them tick? At the end of each interview, Dave asked the same question: “What are your top three recommendations for people who want to perform better at being human?” After performing a statistical analysis of the answers, he found that the wisdom gleaned from these highly successful people could be distilled into three main objectives: finding ways to become smarter, faster, and happier. Game Changers is the culmination of Dave’s years-long immersion in these conversations, offering 46 science-backed, high performance “laws” that are a virtual playbook for how to get better at life. "Emotional intelligence is hackable and you do have to do the work but maybe you can do the work more effectively. There can be a fast path instead of a slow one." - Dave Asprey   GAME CHANGERS GIFT GIVEAWAYS What works for the game changers in this book, can work for you! Bulletproof is giving away $175,000 worth of some of the INCREDIBLE life and wellness enhancing technology and cutting-edge health services and treatments that Dave and others use to live smarter, faster and happier. Listen To Episode 250 As Dave Asprey Uncovers: The various health struggles he has faced in his life and how biohacking helped him find the answers he sought. His program, 40 Years of Zen, and the fast-paced meditation benefits you can get from participating in it. Why he wrote, Game Changers, in order to answer the question, 'What are the three most important pieces of advice for someone who wants to perform better at everything they do as a human being?' How he came to discover the 46 Laws for High Performance after interviewing hundreds of people. Why it's impossible to actually be able to complete every single personal development practice in this lifetime and that's okay. His documentary, Moldy Movie, about how there are over 100 million homes in the US with toxic mold which are leading to disease. How early trauma including what happens while we're in the womb can affect our personality and fear response as an adult. The power of gratitude and how it can help us rewire the brain, stop the negative voice in our head and let go of shame. His own gratitude practice and how he lets go of the negative voice in his head. How EMDR is an effective tool for therapy and resetting old patterns. The common thread and patterns of emotional intelligence and intuition that Dave discovered in these high performers during the interviews he conducted for Game Changers. Why he titled the law, Eat Like Your Grandma, rather than title it with the common Paleo phrase, Eat Like A Caveman. His definition of consciousness and how it relates to his work with Bulletproof. The role that the ego played for him at Bulletproof's beginnings compared to now years later. How you can step outside of yourself and look back with a different mindset to see what's actually going on. The orgasm hangover for men and how ejaculation sucks their energy so that they're much less likely to be loving, kind, and patient the day after compared to women who feel a higher sense of connection. The 4 Laws of Sex in Game Changers explained and how intimacy can lead to an altered state of mind. The laws and rules, "Money Doesn't Make You Happy" and "The Power of 'No." How he uses the power of 'no' to help him stay balanced and make decisions. His own most important three pieces of advice for someone who wants to perform better at everything they do as a human being.   Power Quotes From The Show "There's so much that we can do on this planet and I don't want to waste time getting to the next challenge. We're here to evolve as human beings." - Dave Asprey "Your body is a very powerful pattern matching system and it'll match patterns of threats long before you can think about them. You might feel at unease about something that triggers you and you don't even know why. Then you end up making a story about why you feel that way and the story probably isn't even true. Even worse, we beat ourselves up afterward for reacting to this made up story. The first thing to do to permanently let go of a trauma so that the pattern matching no longer matches the pattern is actually gratitude." - Dave Asprey "Consciousness is your ability to be aware of what's actually happening in the world around you instead of your story of what's going on. If you want to be conscious and you want to be free, you have to understand that the ego is part of this ancient bacteria operating system that keeps you alive. The ego isn't going to go away but if you let it drive instead of you, bad things will happen. At Bulletproof, we want to engage people's ego to then dissolve the ego." - Dave Asprey  "Having a sense of purpose, a mission, and knowing why you're here is a big challenge because if you don't know why you're here, it can be painful. When you're doing things that society, your parents, or trauma tells you that you're supposed to be doing but they're not fulfilling you, that's a pretty good sign that you don't know why you're here. I wish I could tell people really quickly how to know why you're here but it's going to take some work and really deep self-reflection such as journaling or meditation. When your purpose in life comes to you, it'll be really obvious and everything works. When you do other things that don't give you meaning, life sucks.  So, find that mission and know why you're here." - Dave Asprey  "Understand that so much of your decision making is an emergent phenomenon from ancient bacteria who think they're in charge. This probably comes from what's in your gut and the way it talks to the bacteria that run your power systems and your environmental sensing systems. If you understand that you are not the voice in your head, you just share a hardware with it, it's not you and it doesn't even share your best interest at heart, that can unlock so much consciousness, emotional intelligence, and even just the ability to show up, not in a big way, but just to dinner." - Dave Asprey    Links From Today's Show Dave Asprey Facebook Instagram Twitter LinkedIn Bulletproof Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Game Changers by Dave Asprey  Bulletproof Radio with Dave Asprey Biohacker Meets Spirit Hacker: Shaman Durek #517 Bulletproof Upgrade Labs Bulletproof Cafés Head Strong by Dave Asprey The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey Bulletproof Homebiotic 4 oz Concentrate Moldy The Movie – The New Bulletproof Documentary Bessel Van Der Kolk M.D. 40 Years of Zen How to Rewire Your Traumatized Brain Bruce Lipton | Epigenetics Gabby Bernstein Eric Kandel Jack Canfield Stan Grof Esther Perel John Gray Chapter 11 of Think Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - Sex Transmutation WFR 046 Dr. John Gray About Dave Asprey Dave Asprey, the founder of Bulletproof and author of New York Times bestseller The Bulletproof Diet, is a Silicon Valley investor and technology entrepreneur who spent two decades and over $1 Million to hack his own biology.
