You know how it is… a woman walks into the room, posts on social media, or shows up at the PTA meeting and we immediately look her up and down, make assumptions, and begin to make comparisons between her life and ours in our head. I'm not sure how or when that ever started, but the struggle is real. Today we tackle The Comparison Struggle with Heather Creekmore, the author of The Burden of Better: How a Comparison-Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest. Heather has been featured on Fox News, Huff Post and more, but she's best recognized from her appearance as a contestant on the Netflix hit show, Nailed It. Listen in to learn: Tactics for dealing with comparison The dangers and effects of comparison How comparison is really envy What a comparison vs grace-filled life looks like How grace is the answer for comparison and envy How the hustle to chase vain idols and goals doesn't really satisfy Favorite Verse: “Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.” Jonah 2:8 Favorite Quotes: “We can compare our bodies, our husbands, and what 40 looks like on her and what 40 looks like on me and it is never going to look the same. In the process we lose out on a lot of things and things are stolen from us when we compare.” – Tiffany Jo Baker “I'm trusting that You, God, have equipped me with everything I need physically to accomplish Your goal for my life.” – Heather Creekmore Check out all the things Heather Creekmore is up to here( www.comparedtowho.me) *If you're looking for perfectly polished people or podcast, this isn't for you. We can't control what's happening around us, but we can use the Enneagram to control the energy we show up with. If we understand the framework fully, the Enneagram gives us a roadmap to recognize when we're spun out or stuck. And it offers guidance on how to shift our energy for the better. On this episode of The Leadership Formula, I discuss how to use your stress number as a wakeup call that your energy is off and describe how to lean into your growth number to show up at your best— regardless of the circumstances.I challenge Enneagram 1s to use play to shift their energy and explain why it's useful for 2s to do something by themselves, while connecting with friends is better for a 3.I share what to do when a 4 gets stuck in compulsive doing for others, a 5 engages in avoidance behaviors and a 6 gets hyper-focused on doing.Listen in to understand what Enneagram 7s can do to shift out of black-and-white thinking, what 8s can do to emerge from unhealthy isolation, and what 9s can do to move away from self-doubt and take decisive action in the world. My guest today is Matt Caraccio! For the last 6 years, Matt has been the Co-Owner and Co-Host of the Saturday2Sunday Football Podcast. His podcast is dedicated to year round NFL prospect analysis & discussion. During that time Matt has hosted three Summer Seminar Series on Skill Acquisition in American Football -those include The Nature of the Movement Problems in American Football", "The Player Problem-Solver Paradigm in American Football", and "Movement Marvels in American Football". In each of these unique series Matt was fortunate enough to have an array of football coaches, skill acquisition coaches, academics, sports psychologists and former players come together from across the community to share their unique perspectives and insights on these topics. More recently Matt has been developing a series of videos entitled "Unraveling Skill" on the Saturday2Sunday YouTube Channel. In each of these videos Matt explains and applies his Player Problem-Solver Evaluative Lens (PPSEL) to the evaluation of current NFL players and future prospects.Matthew Caraccio has been a High School Mathematics Teacher and Sports Coach for the last 20 years. Matt has developed and taught high school courses in both Sports Analytics & Sports Management. In addition, Matt has coached athletes across various sports including Basketball, Baseball and American Footbal..Matt's diverse background gives a very unique look at sport movement, which comes across strongly during the episode The impetus for this episode was a tweet from someone I know in high school coaching about how players who don't fit certain “molds” if you will, often get overlooked…we dive into that topic and much more, including the following:How Matt views athletes as problem solvers What reframing player evaluation in American Football How when we evaluate film, we must look strongly at context How looking at athletes as a complex system , can help us understand their behavior on the field betterHow brining a “pro model” to youth sports may not be such a goo idea How context drives content during player evaluation We discuss correlation, or lack of correlation b/t combine performance and length of NFL careers Guys this episode a lot of fun.  Matt is a super smart guy and really does great job trying to bring a different lens to scouting….I encourage all of you to follow him on social media and listen to his podcast, which I will link to in the show notesThanks for joining us today, enjoy the show!__________________________________Matt's Contact Info:Saturday2Sunday Football Podcast Website Matt's TwitterSaturday2Sunday Twitter As always, if you have any questions or ideas for future episodes, feel free to contact me:Email: javier@igniteperformance.net Instagram: @thecoachjavtwitter: @thecoachjav

Today we talk about Comparison -something that, if you've been around this show any amount of time, you'll know is a hot topic! Comparison is no joke, it's bigger than the memes, and it's hurting us more than we know. I talk all about the ways that comparisons affects us and how we can be free from constant comparison in my book, "The Burden of Better: How a Comparison Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest" (You can even download the first chapters for free here if you want to preview it!). Our verse of the day is 1 Corinthians 4:7: 7 "For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?" God has a plan for each of our lives, a purpose for each of us, and enough grace for all of us! Can we trust his sovereignty, his plans, and in his wisdom that he knew exactly what he was doing when he created each of us? The only person worthy of our comparison is Jesus-- and praise God there's a remedy for how we will always fall short! (For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.) How's this series going for you? I'd love to hear what you think. Leave a comment below!

Heather Creekmore is a wife, homeschooling mom of four, podcaster, and author of the new book, The Burden of Better: How a Comparison-Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest. This is by far the best book I have ever read on the topic of comparison, and today Heather comes on the show to talk about the book and its overarching message: that it is the gospel alone that can actually free us from the trap of comparison. What we Chat about in This Episode ~Heather's new book, The Burden of Better: How a Comparison-Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest, what led her to write it, and what readers can expect ~Grace as the remedy for comparison ~How comparison reveals that we do not believe in the goodness of God towards us personally ~The importance of knowing the character of God and believing it ~How the longings of our hearts, which are revealed in our comparison struggle, point to how we were made to be fulfilled in Christ ~The folly of thinking we are enough on our own, how this lie is leading to despair ~How searching for happiness, contentment, and fulfillment in anything apart from Christ will never work and never suffice ~How always looking to the next thing robs us of the here and now ~Why our acceptability can never come from how we compare to others ~How comparison leads to disunity in the church and a lack of fellowship ~Labeling comparison Biblically - as sins such as envy, jealousy, and covetousness ~How comparison dismisses God's gracious artistry ~Four kinds of grace - saving grace, sanctifying grace, growing grace, and sustaining grace; how they affect the day-to-day ~How understanding our identity in Christ changes the comparison struggle ~Hope for getting rid of comparison ~And more! In this week's episode, I kind of reflect on what I feel is a fundamental flaw in how many people approach personal development and self-improvement.Typically we enter these areas because we want to achieve more, become more productive, procrastinate less, and become high-performers. This inevitably leads us down a path where we try to improve various areas of our lives. But do those areas even need improvement? If something isn't broken do we need to fix it or make it better?Like anything in life, our choices have consequences and our actions have trade-offs.In this week's episode I cover:Why more is not always betterHow self-improvement has become a hobby for too many peopleHow life is a game of trade-offs whether we like it or notDownload this week's episode and listen to me talk your ear off during your next drive!-------------------------------IG: @excellence.addictionwww.theexcellenceaddiction.com

But there were no systems and the business wasn’t organized. They came to NPE for clarity, systems, and organization. With NPE, one of the first things they realized was their ideal client avatar needed adjustment. Professionals with children became the new client avatar. They rebranded the business and changed their programming to provide massive value to professionals with children. Client retention went way up, and they were able to charge more for their services. When COVID-19 hit, instead of shutting the business down, they saw it as a huge opportunity. They installed a new sales system and made premium offers to their new ideal clients. When Sean and James reopened their business, they signed up 38 people in the first month and their business grew 140% from the previous 12 months (even during COVID-19).In this episode, you’ll learn:How Sean and James started their journey as studio/gym ownersThe importance of getting a clear vision of who you want to serveHow aligning your messaging and programming to an ideal client attracts more of the best people and allows you to serve them betterHow getting disciplined about numbers leads to higher levels of successHow they recognized their strengths and leveraged them as leaders How they decided to shift their focus during COVID-19 and took massive actions for re-openingHow having a business coach made a difference in their journey to successAnd much, much more ... Seven continents, 70 countries, countless books, studies in psychology, philosophy and physiology at Oxford with a specialization in brain chemistry were all part of a quest to figure out how to live a good life and what a good life even means.    And that search eventually led Arthur Worsley to create The Art of Living. Prior to, however, he had been working 80+ hour weeks at McKinsey for three years. Burnout and several other life events prompted him to leave and finally start to uncover what it means to live a good life. Today, after immersing himself in studying this, he is helping others get more out of life and achieve self mastery through his TRACKTION Masterclass and The Art of Living.   The following is the transcript from the show. But first, a few helpful links: More about the TRACTION Masterclass (tip: use code “wiredpr75” to get 75% off the class! Only the first 50 people)  GTD (Getting Things Done)  book summary Productivity & Performance: Do More, Better How to accelerate learning What led you to create The Art of Living?  I left McKinsey and I'd been doing a whole load of things. I'd been studying, I learned five languages, I did an ultra marathon through the Sahara desert, I'd been traveling and reading books, and I wanted a way to capture all of that. I stumbled on the Fineman method of learning –– learning by teaching it to someone else. I started putting this stuff down and people started reading it.    I've always been fascinated with being good at life. I had a father who was an alcoholic and despite having all of the advantages that he could have possibly had, he sort of threw his life away. If I look back at my decision on why I wanted to study psychology, why I've always been so interested in reading and why I went traveling, a lot of them link back to trying to get to the bottom of these questions, which is how can we live a good life? How can we not throw away everything that we're given? What does a good life even mean? That's where The Art of Living really came from.   What was the turning point when you realized you had stumbled onto something viable with The Art of Living? When I started out and people started resonating with the stuff I was writing, that was the first moment where I thought, maybe this is possible. The moment that I realized that this was really going to be something cool was when I was with one of my partner's friends who's a retired CEO. I was chatting to him and his wife about the life philosophy that I'd put together, the way I organize my weeks and my days and how I avoid burnout and they said, “Hey, would you give us some coaching?” I'd never really thought about coaching people on that, and that is when I realized that the business was probably going to be viable.   What were the early days like? Once you knew you wanted to build this, how long did it take you? I started out reading a lot of books and it was a huge learning curve for me. Some people start a business and they come from a strong marketing background and then they find a product that they can sell. Some people have a product or a cause that they believe in, and then they're trying to work out the marketing aspect of it.    For me, even though the product had been evolving, I knew what it was I wanted to help people with from a very early stage and I focused on one channel. I'm a big search engine optimization guy. I love the idea of just optimizing something and then leaving it out there and having it slowly accrue more people. That was my top-of-funnel and then I had to work out how to turn those readers into subscribers and those subscribers into buyers? That was a long process of trial and error and learning from people who'd been there before me.   It's quite a different path than McKinsey, was there anything you had to overcome mentally to let go of that chapter and pursue this as a new path? I think it's surprisingly similar to McKinsey in two ways. The first is that what I do involves taking really big problems and breaking them down into really small problems that are easy to solve. The reason I'm able to help people find more balance and meaning in their lives is when you break it down into eight different areas and five different time horizons, suddenly it becomes a set of much smaller problems. The second thing is that it's all about learning super steep learning curves. I would start a project at McKinsey knowing nothing about oil and gas or defense or healthcare or supermarkets in the UK and within three months you're helping the CEO clarify decisions they're going to make. One of the things that I did struggle with is I've always loved problem solving for the sake of problem solving and that tends to mean that I put more energy into solving the problem than it necessarily needs. I have to keep catching myself not to get sucked into spending more time than I need solving the problems that are in front of me.    One of the things you're most known for is your TRACKTION productivity system. In that, one of the first steps is to diagnose what's holding you back. Can you share some tips on how to identify that? There's two kinds of people in this world: those who know what they need to be doing and aren't doing it, and the people who genuinely don't know what they need to be doing. For a lot of people, getting clear on which of those they are, is important. A lot of people know what's going to move the needle and what the most important thing in their business is, and they just can't seem to focus on it. For those, I think one of the most important things you can do is start tracking your time and creating a bit of an inventory of what it is that you're actually working on. When you track your time, it creates accountability. I don't mean on a minute by minute basis or with an app where you build pie charts. You can do this very simply on a piece of paper. You say, 7:15am start breakfast, 7:45am start work, whatever it is that you do. You get a lot of clarity around how much of that time is not being spent on the stuff that's important.    For the people who genuinely don't know what to do, the most important thing is to just sit down and work out what that most important thing is. You can go through a basic planning method where you work out what it is you're trying to achieve. The model I use is ‘what, why not, how, what if and what next'. You ask yourself, what's the what? Then you write down all the reasons that you're not already there. Then you go, how can I solve all of those things? Then you go through a what if phase, which is where you anticipate anything that could come up that could derail you. Then you look at that entire list and go, what's the most important thing on this list that I could be working on and you get on with that. If you do that, you'll naturally squeeze the stuff that doesn't matter off your plate.    How do you then identify things you may be doing on a daily basis that don't really matter? The most powerful way is when you have a vision of what awesome looks like for each area of your life. Something I like to get people to do is write down all the things they're working on right now and then you give each of those things a score from minus five to plus five. Minus five is any activity that's taking you strongly away from that vision that you've written down. Plus five is anything that's taking you strongly towards that. It creates a huge amount of clarity to go down that list and give everything a number. What people who are really struggling tend to do is they have a few minus ones and minus twos on that list and those are things you can easily get rid of. What people who are very productive but are struggling to get to the next level find is they have a lot of plus ones and plus twos and those are things that are hard to give up because they're not doing you any harm and might be slightly pleasant, but they're not as important as the plus five and plus four stuff that's getting you towards your vision. Doing that process is super helpful for getting clear.     If you don't have time to think about what awesome looks like or you haven't done any visions for the different areas of your life, you can use a few heuristic models. I tend to use three nets. The first is the ABC method. A is something that if you did or didn't do, it would have a big impact and C is something that would have no impact at all. B is something that would have a little impact. You go down the list and you go, this is an A task and if I stopped doing it, stuff's really going to start going wrong. This is a C task, if I stopped doing it, nothing will really happen. The second model, I call “hero-based thinking”. Think who's your business hero and then look at each of the things on your task list and go, would my hero be doing this or not? The last net is the $10 task test. Go down the list and ask, how much would it cost to outsource this to a freelancer and that will give you the final clue, which is, is this something that I personally should be doing? If you're an entrepreneur and you aspire to be paid $1,000 an hour, and you've got a lot of $10-tasks on your list, or even a lot of $100-tasks, then you're short changing yourself. Those three nets will tell you, is it important, should it be done at all and should I be doing it?    You work with a lot of entrepreneurs who are facing burnout whether because their work has taken over their lives or they feel like they have to compromise their lives in some way to grow the business. Is there a common thread among these entrepreneurs that you've seen –– something that's keeping them in that pattern? How can they start to break free from that? The two most common ones are lack of energy and lack of clarity. For lack of energy, I talk about three kinds of days: A days, B days and C days. An A day is a work day where you're working on the most important projects. B days are planning days where you work out what success looks like or get clear on your inboxes. C days are recovery days where you get to the end of the day with more energy. For the last four weeks, mark in your calendar as an all day event if it was an A day, B day or C day. Suddenly people go, I haven't had a C day in four weeks, no wonder I'm feeling a bit run down. Or, I've only had two C-ish days because I was at a wedding and that doesn't really count.    A lot of the time, it's just creating clarity. It's so easy to forget how long and how hard we've been working as an entrepreneur. And then you can put for the next four weeks when are you going to do your A, B and C days. My rhythm is five A days, one C day and one B day every week, and every four weeks, I try and take at least three or four consecutive C days to recuperate my batteries. The second is, a lot of the reason people end up just working on work is because they don't have a best alternative to working on work. I encourage people to get really clear on what it is they actually want out of the other areas of life. What does success look like for their family, their health, their wealth, the learning and growth that they want to through? When you're offered a choice, it doesn't just become a default of I'll do more work.   On The SuccessLab Podcast we talk about the idea of impactful connections and how they can really transform the trajectory of your career or your business. Are there one or two along your journey that made a big impact? One of the most important set of relationships that I've had are the mentors in the books I've read. There are two ways that you can approach a book. You can approach it as you listen to what it is that's being said to you, or you can treat it as an active dialogue with the author. Those relationships are very powerful. That's a kind of academic answer so I think the most important relationship that I've got at the moment is my partner, Erin. She's amazing. Lastly, I have a very specific set of values that I look for in the friends that I keep around me and all of those people are constantly inspiring me, making me feel grateful to be alive and showing me new ways of thinking and challenging some of the parts of me that need more development.   What's one piece of advice you would give to fellow entrepreneurs looking to make a change in their lives? It's really helpful to get smart at breaking problems down. Peter Drucker says, if you give two highly competent people a role and they both fail at it, the chances are it's not the people, it's the role that needs to be broken down into more specific roles. I think the same is true of problems. If you throw a lot of people, time and effort at a problem and you can't solve it, it's probably because you haven't worked out how to break it down yet. One of the most important pieces of advice I got when I started out with my blogging was to split my efforts into readers, subscribers, and buyers. That seems like such an obvious thing to do but the moment you break that problem down, it clarifies everything you need to do. Learning to break problems down into smaller pieces is really helpful. Another general problem-solving tip is to invert things. If someone says what does success look like for your business or what should you be working on? You can invert that question and ask, what's the thing that I shouldn't be working on or what don't I want from my business? That will help you narrow the solution space in a way that makes getting to the positive answer more easy.   Speed round:   Coffee drinker, yes or no? No. One business tool you're geeking out over right now? ActiveCampaign Favorite piece of technology? My iPad Pro and Apple Pencil What's one book you'd pass along to a fellow entrepreneur? Getting Things Done by David Allen One person you'd like to make a connection with? I really wish I could have met Stephen Covey.  What's your favorite ice breaker when introducing yourself to someone? Smile. I think the positivity, energy and interest that you show in other people is almost always reflected back.  How many hours of sleep do you get each night, on average? I always give myself an eight-hour sleep opportunity and then I also have a siesta every afternoon that's usually 20 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on how well I slept the night before or how tired I am. Nowadays he is an independent writer, speaker and consultant who has written many columns and a number of bestselling books on American culture.Anyone who has followed my work knows I don't care too much for politics, but I felt it was important to showcase Charles, as he is exactly the kind of journalist the world needs. He is outspoken regarding news media's focus on conveying the negative and the sensational, preaching that optimism (and realism) is not only the more ethical route for news reporting, but also, statistically, the more warranted route. Episode Summary: In my 30 years in mental health, one of the most prevalent issues I’ve seen in my office has been not truly knowing our identity in Christ. So many look to others and their accomplishments, only to come up short and lacking in the joy Christ came to give us. Too often we spend our efforts trying to be better, and in the end, we just carry around a burden we were not meant to carry. In The Burden of Better, Heather Creekmore uses her characteristic humorous style to help us learn how a comparison-free life leads to joy, peace, and rest. She helps us understand how “the life of comparison is the old nature, not our new nature,” and then helps us see how living comparison-free lets us rest in the joy that is ready for our pursuing. If you’ve struggled with comparison, and constantly trying to be better (and who of us hasn’t?), then you’ve tuned in for the right episode. Today we’re going to be talking about how living a life striving to become “better” steals our joy, peace, and rest. In today’s episode, we’re going to talk with Heather Creekmore, author of “The Burden of Better: How a Comparison Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest”. Quotables from the episode: Too often we don’t realize it but we are enslaved to the “burden of better.” Adam and Eve already had perfect, but Satan convinced them to sin so they could find “better.” Slowly we turn our hearts away from the source of all that is good and toward the illusion of self-made satisfaction. You can’t be fully present in the life God designed for you when you constantly wonder what life would be like if it were more like hers. Comparison’s ladder has no top rung. The concept of “better” is elusive. Comparison can turn into a heart of envy. Comparison is the opposite of contentment. When I’m robbed of peace, joy, and contentment through comparison, I’m robbed of strength. Comparison can become an idol. When we idealize, we idolize. It’s not about you, it’s about me, we convince ourselves. Comparison is not a big deal, we reason. It’s necessary for my self-improvement. It doesn’t actually hurt anyone. How close can we be to someone who we constantly size up In comparing we add on to what God asked of us. It doesn’t matter what you think of you. It only matters what God says of you. If the enemy convinces us we are the only ones, he gets us isolated and powerless. If we were perfect, we wouldn’t need a Savior. Perfection keeps us trapped by arbitrary measures. God’s sustaining grace comes in our suffering. Suffering builds character and makes us more like Jesus. Are you seeking to be better or are you seeking Jesus? The first step in a comparison-free action plan is to practice gratitude. Scripture References: Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God as set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” Galatians 6:4-5 “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.” 1 Corinthians 15:10 “But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.” Recommended Resources: The Burden of Better: How a Comparison Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest by Heather Creekmore Compared to Who: A Proven Path to Improve Your Body Image by Heather Creekmore Counterfeit Gods by Timothy Keller The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Timothy Keller How To Overcome Workplace Comparison 4 Steps Toward Conquering Comparison Do You Know Who You Are In Christ? One of the best skills we can have to take our business, our career, and just our life in general is to meet like-minded people, to connect with them and make a lasting, up-building relationship. No man is an island. We all know that quote really well and that just means that people are inter-connected and learning the art of connecting with people, cultivating meaningful relationships will set you for success. As what Dr. Ivan Misner, our podcast guest for today say, if you improve your networking skills, you can apply it to anything. You can apply it to real estate, being an attorney, CPA, etc. Really, any profession who improves their networking skills will improve their business. And how blessed we are that we are learning how to network better from THE expert in the field of business networking and “The Father of Modern Networking”. Looking back, Ivan did not have the best networking skills. At high school, he always wanted to be in student government, but he always end last in elections. But there was one time where one person saw a potential in him which gave him the opportunity to take leadership roles. That prepared him for leadership roles in life. He wanted it so bad that he was determined to do his very best. True enough, after that he was elected student council every year. Fast forward to his early business career, Ivan essentially created his own networking organizations based on this core principle: givers gain. Today, he was able to build an organization that can sustain over 35 years and do it the way of networking and really connecting with people. When you listen to this episode in full, you will not just learn about how to improve your networking skills, but also how to successfully start your own business, and how to have a positive outlook on life. Me and my team are 101% you’ll finish listening to this episode 100% inspired with an improved outlook on life. Here’s What You Missed What is NetworkingHow do you network betterHow to avoid the leaky bucket syndromeWhat is the VCP process of building a businessWhat is “The Butterfly Effect Of Networking."How will you take action Knowledge Nuggets [6:35] One person saw one thing in me and that changed the trajectory of my life. Having that opportunity to take leadership roles in high school prepared me for leadership roles in life. [8:41] Success is the best revenge. I can do this and I'm going to show that I can do it. [10:00] Core principle: Givers gain. If I help you you'll help me. We'll all do better, as a result of it. [12:06] Leaky bucket syndrome- So if you teach someone something, a little information leaks out and when they teach a person more information leak out. So you need to create systems that can be replicated, that we could train people on that, that minimized the leaky bucket syndrome. [13:57] VCP process of building a business: Visibility, credibility, profitability. They know who you are. They know what to do. They know you're good at it. And they're willing to give you referrals on an ongoing basis. [15:55] It takes a certain amount of time before people have confidence in your ability to provide a quality product or service. Networking is more of a marathon than it is a sprint. You have to pace yourself. [18:17] Introverts may make a better networker. A good networker has two ears and one mouth and should use them both proportionately. A good networker is like a good interviewer. [19:56] How to connect with people: Act like a host, not a guest. When you go to a chamber of commerce, don't just be a member, be an ambassador. [26:27] "The Butterfly Effect Of Networking." You never know who someone knows. Don't look your nose down on someone because you don't think they're successful or here they're not the kind of person I want to network with. [29:02] Write everything down as though you plan on franchising, your business, even if you never intend to franchise your business with it. [30:25] Benjamin Franklin once said, "if you empty your purse into your head, you are getting something that no one can ever take away from you, knowledge". [32:10] The truth is if you improve your networking skills, you can apply it to anything. You can apply it to real estate. You can apply it to, being an attorney. You can apply it to a CPA, Any profession who improves their networking skills will improve their business. [33:17] Secret to success without hard work is still a secret. It doesn't exist. Sometimes you look at someone at where they are and you don't see where they were. [36:46] What's more important is, asking yourself: Whose story am I in? Whose life am I making a difference in who have I helped in some small way? The little things you say, put you in other people's story. [41:22] I believe in hope. And I believe in taking a look at a positive spin on negative things that happen in our life, hope is listening to that little voice inside you talking about what can be when everyone around you is screaming, what can't be. Hope plus action create amazing results. HOPE PLAN ACTION. [42:55] If you want to be successful, do six things that thousand times, not a thousand things, six times. [47:44] It's not just who you know, it's how you know each other well. That really makes a difference. It's one of the saddest things that can happen to a mountaineer. You spend months training, buy $700 boots, travel around the world ... and then you don't summit. Suddenly you're overwhelmed by disappointment, second guessing yourself, and feeling like a total failure. But believe it or not, missing a summit here and there can make you a better mountaineer and a happier, more resilient human in the long run. The truth is that all successful mountaineers have long lists of unfinished peaks, and that we often learn valuable life lessons from these so-called failures. In this episode, let's talk about:First aid for the soul: What to do right afterward to feel betterHow to lower the stakes by loving your entire training journeyUnderstanding what you can and can't control, and the mindset benefits of surrenderTrip planning tips that can help to ease your disappointment if you don't summitLife lessons I've learned from my "unfinished" summitsI'd like to say that I hope you never need this episode. But honestly, if you keep mountaineering, you inevitably will at some point! So keep this one on your phone for those days when you need some peppermint schnapps-infused hot chocolate for the mountaineering soul.Read detailed show notes at:https://missadventurepants.com/13

Hello Everyone and Welcome back! We're in the middle of a series talking about body image. Body Image is a component of self-esteem. Approximately 80% of U.S. women don't like how they look. Our perception of our body influences our mental health, our physical health, how we take care of ourselves, and how we relate to others. Those with a negative body image have a higher chance of developing an eating disorder and will often suffer from depression, low self-esteem, and obsessions with weight loss. Body image statistics prove many people, even those as young as age 10, are sensitive and vulnerable to critical thoughts about themselves. Last week, we talked with Jamie Young and discussed unhealthy and negative body image. Today we're continuing the conversation with my friend, speaker and author, Heather Creekmore. Through her ministry -Compared to Who?-- Heather Creekmore writes and speaks hope to thousands of women each week, inspiring them to stop comparing and find their true purpose in Christ. Heather and her fighter-pilot-turned-pastor husband, Eric, live in Austin, Texas with their four children and a dog named Violet. In her free time, Heather homeschools, shops clearance racks, and competes on Netflix baking shows. Heather's first book also titled Compared to Who?, encourages women to uncover the spiritual root of body image issues and find freedom. Her second book titled, “The Burden of Better: How a Comparison-Free Life Leads to Peace, Joy & Rest” releases this September. You can find Heather : Podcast:www.comparedtowho.me/podcast | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube In our conversation, we discuss: What makes a body image positive? Back when I was a personal trainer working with clients one-on-one I only had to rely on myself to get the job done. As long as I got results for my clients and hustled, everything worked out fine... until it didn't. As my business grew, I started to collaborate with other trainers and build a team. It was a natural progression, but it forced me to take a look at how I was running things. As I grew, it became increasingly evident that the behaviors I had built up weren't cutting it anymore – slowing as opposed to facilitating my growth. Essentially I was a soloist trying to play in a unified band – which never works when you’re working to build a championship team. With self-reflection I realized what I had to do. I needed to transform myself from the soloist, who's shoes I had grown accustom to wearing, to a conductor focused on strengthen the team instead of the individual so that we could work together in unison. Today I share five lessons I learned a result of that transformation. These lessons will teach you how to take yourself from a soloist to a conductor, when it comes to leadership, and will enable you to strengthen your team, business, relationships, and family. Don’t learn through pain and mistakes. Listen to these lessons and save yourself the trouble of going through them. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN: Why I threw myself into learning obsessively about leadership and team building by hiring mentors and going through coursesWhy taking things slow will allow both you and your team to go further in the long-runWhat you have to give up and commit to if you want to go from a soloist to a conductorThe difference between a hiker and a leaderMy Tough Mudder experience and the mistake I made that you need to avoid if you want your business to be successful What the “leadership dance” is and how to implement it in your business to help you do/be your bestThe KEY to shifting your mindset that will ultimately become the catalyst to change your team(s) for the betterHow to know if your team is 'completing against' or 'working with' one anotherThe reason your team is not working together, and the number one road block that stops teams from succeeding LINKS AND RESOURCES: Vigor Ground Fitness and Performance: www.VigorGroundFitness.com Vigor Life Podcast (iTunes): https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/vigor-life-podcast/id1180256583?mt=2 Luka Hocevar YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ29YcBh-g6onRujX3wD_XA?view_as=subscriber Luka Hocevar Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukahocevar/ Thanks so much for joining me this week.

I am a board-certified pediatrician who was in private practice for 18 years until severe fibromyalgia symptoms forced me to retire from medicine. After going on the guaifenesin protocol and getting acupuncture my symptoms dramatically declined, enabling me to return to practice medicine 20 months after I “retired.” My fibromyalgia doctor, Dr. Paul St. Amand at Harbor UCLA medical center suggested that I not go back to practicing general pediatrics but become a fibromyalgia consultant instead. I trained with him and have been doing fibromyalgia consulting for children and adults since 2010.What is your illness(es)? FibromyalgiaWhere do you work? The San Francisco Bay AreaWho do you work with? I am in solo practice, but I communicate with my mentor Dr. St. Amand frequently. I also keep in touch with many integrative medicine providers and other health care practitioners to share insights about treatments and ways to help patients feel betterHow did your illness shape your career?I was sick for a long time before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have severe fatigue, dizziness, 15 migraines a month, chronic neck and shoulder pain, and irritable bowel symptoms. I thought surely I must be dying because I felt so sick and doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me. My children were young at this time, and I hoped that I would not pass away until my youngest was at least 7 years old, because I thought by that age she would remember her mother’s love. So I have been to that dark hopeless place that chronic illness can lead a person to, and I went from mostly housebound to feeling well again. My illness motivated me to help others do the same. It feels so good to feel good again! What do you do when you don't know what to do about a patient? First I like to think and meditate about it, then if I can’t come up with a treatment plan I will reach out to my network of healthcare providers to get insight. Are you/were you open about your illness with patients?YES. My patients tell me it is a great help to them that I truly understand what it feels like to have fibromyalgia (physically and emotionally), and that that is one of the reasons they have chosen me to help them feel better. What are you most passionate about in regards to your work? Two things. First of all, how to make an accurate diagnosis by physical exam, and no, I am not talking about the inaccurate tender point exam. My mentor, Dr. Paul St. Amand, taught me how to diagnose fibromyalgia using a physical exam technique called “mapping.” He has found that everyone with fibromyalgia has a pattern of very small swollen and contracted muscles along their left anterior thigh. He taught me how to detect them, and if a patient has these swellings, then they have fibromyalgia! It is not complicated! These swellings are so small and are not tender, so most people with fibromyalgia don't realize they are there -- but they are super easy to feel once you have been trained in this technique.Secondly, I love helping people with fibromyalgia decrease their pain, improve their mood, and increase their energy. There are a lot of helpful tips I can give them to achieve this, but one of the most life changing treatments I have found for fibromyalgia is the guaifenesin protocol. Guaifenesin is an expectorant (it is the active ingredient in Mucinex) and used in the right form (long acting dye free guaifenesin) and avoiding products that can block its action, guaifenesin can decrease our muscle spasm and pain over time (as well as increase energy, improve mood, intestinal function, etc). After I dramatically improved using the guaifenesin protocol, my mentor taught me how to administer the protocol to others. It has been so successful patients thank me every month for giving them their lives back! I feel so thankful to have found the guaifenesin protocol and thankful for the opportunity to help others with fibromyalgia feel better. How do you/did you handle flares while at work? I am able to set my own schedule, so if I need more down time I insert a break in my schedule. How do you did you handle being a patient and a professional in your personal life? When I am at work I am focusing on my patient, and I only bring up my personal experiences if my patient asks.Do you tell your patients what you tell yourself / do you practice what you preach? For the most part! I am committed to helping my patients feel better, and sometimes I spend more than the allotted time for the appointment answering patient’s questions. This can cause me to miss lunch!Has your condition made you more or less empathetic to those like you? MORE empathetic! I have come to understand that some healthcare professionals do not believe fibromyalgia is a real medical condition. They think that we are depressed, or stressed, or just lazy. I even heard one rheumatologist refer to Fibromyalgia as “The F word!” I KNOW fibromyalgia is real because I feel the symptoms (plus there are hundreds of studies indicating that those of us with fibromyalgia have unique physical and biochemical findings). I am passionate about helping validate my patients symptoms and help empower them to get the care they deserve. How do you research conditions? on your own? drug companies? medical journals? Colleagues? how do you convey this knowledge to patients? Every morning I go on a physician's site called Doximity to check what new research has been done on fibromyalgia, I also Google fibromyalgia and get a compendium of articles from various sources about what is happening the field of fibromyalgia and chronic pain. I talk to colleague regularly, I post every Tuesday on my professional FB page (usually sharing new research results or an article about fibromyalgia) and I send out newsletters on a regular basis to my patients updating them on the latest developments in the field. How do you feel about holistic medicine? what does it mean to you? The definition of holistic medicine I like best is that Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person -- body, mind, spirit, and emotions -- in the quest for optimal health and wellness. ... In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health. This is from WebMD. I use the most natural methods and techniques with the fewest side effects when I treat my patients.Tell us about a special experience with a patient (uplifting)Ahh, Stefanie comes to mind. She is a wildlife biologist who developed pain as a child. Her doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She was having so many migraines and so much pain in her body her doctors told her “well, you are just one of those people with pain.” After 9 months on the guaifenesin protocol she felt a “dramatic decrease” in the pain she was in an increase in energy, so much so that she was able to do more and have the confidence to have a baby, and she did! To see her in the office holding her baby in her arms was so amazing. She said her improvement on guaifenesin “feels like a miracle, it just transformed my life.” There are so many stories like Stefanie’s of symptom improvement on the guaifenesin protocol! I produced a documentary called Fibromyalgia: Getting Our Lives Back--Success Stories on the Guaifenesin Protocol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtPPoOBeXTM for people who want to learn more.If you had one message to send out to every chronic illness patient out there what would it be? Just today I was asked twice about bounce rate and how to get it lower. So in this episode, I thought I’d tackle the topic and will talk briefly about what bounce rate is, about why I see many bloggers not really interpreting it in a helpful way and  for the bulk of the episode I want to give you 11 things you can do to lower bounce rate on your blog. My house is so quiet today because my youngest son started school this week. Yes, all three of my boys are at school at last. Also it’s been very exciting to see him get in his uniform and waddle off to school with a massive bag on his back. The house is just so quiet. I think it’s gonna take a little time to get used to, but anyway, one of the good things about a quiet house is that I can record this podcast pretty much anytime of the day. I don’t have to set him up with a movie or anything like that or wait till he goes off to preschool. Without further ado, let’s get into today’s lesson. In today’s lesson, what I want to talk about is a statistic or a metric that you can find in your Google Analytics account. It’s one that I see a lot of bloggers talking about. It’s the statistic or the metric bounce rate – your bounce rate. That’s what I wanna talk about today. Even just today, I was asked twice in Facebook groups about bounce rate and how to get it lower, so I thought in this episode, I’d tackle the topic. We’ll talk briefly about what a bounce rate is, for those of you who’ve never heard that term before or maybe you’ve seen it in your Google Analytics and wondered what it was. I wanna talk a little bit about why I think some bloggers aren’t really interpreting bounce rate in a helpful way. For the bulk of this episode, I wanna give you eleven different things you can do to get your bounce rate lower and hopefully improve your blog. The last thing I wanna do is suggest a little bit of homework that you might wanna do to lower your bounce rate...
