HOW WE ALL BECOME MINNESOTA: BRITTANY PACKNETT CUNNINGHAM

In this special, urgent, must-listen conversation, Brittany Packnett Cunningham helps us understand what's happening in Minnesota right now—and why it's not an isolated moment. She explains how years of organizing made Minnesota ready to resist state violence, why this moment is more dangerous than 2014 or 2020, and what it actually means to move from watching in horror to taking action. Brittany lays out what every one of us can do today—wherever we live—to protect our neighbors, build real organizing infrastructure, and prepare for what's coming next. This is a wake-up call. And a roadmap. You can listen to our prior conversation with Brittany Packnett Cunningham – How to Create Unbreakable Bonds HERE.  About Brittany:  Brittany Packnett Cunningham is a leader at the intersection of culture, justice and policy.  Brittany is Founder of the social impact agency Love & Power Works, Host and Executive Producer of the news and justice podcast UNDISTRACTED. A St. Louis native, Brittany was instrumental in the coordination of the Ferguson Protest following the 2014 police murder of  18-year-old Michael Brown. After George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis in 2020, Brittany became one of the most visible national movement voices for policy, budget and electoral change.  As the world watched the executions of Renee Good and Alex Pretti  by ICE within – both within 2.2 miles of where George Flloyd was murdered – as well as the execution of Keith Porter Jr by ICE in California, Brittany is leading us in connecting this police state violence – including the killing of Geraldo Lunas Campos, Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres, and Luis Beltran Yanez–Cruz  and more than 50 other deaths in ICE detention – toward collective liberation.   You can find her @MsPackyetti on all social media. Ash Patel interviews Paul Frank, a rare combination of longtime developer, broker, and mentor, about what it really takes to survive and succeed in commercial real estate over multiple decades. Paul shares how being thrown into large QSR development projects in the 1980s shaped his risk discipline, why entitlement and municipal processes have become significantly harder in recent years, and how siloed brokerage models limit brokers' real understanding of the full real estate lifecycle. He also breaks down common development and financing mistakes, including DSCR traps, prepayment penalties, and why many “developers” lack the operational depth to underwrite and execute deals properly. The conversation closes with lessons on relationship-driven dealmaking, mentorship, and why discipline—not deal volume or door count—is the real long-term advantage in CRE. Today, IQBAR is a fast-growing, nine-figure brand with national distribution, including Costco. In this episode, Will shares how he turned a performance problem into a category-defining business, what it takes to stay relevant in a crowded functional food space, and why efficacy, simplicity, and focus have guided every product decision. “I love the use of AI voices or synthetic voices for people who might, you know, they're embarrassed. I've worked with engineers my whole career, and sometimes, like, it's not that they don't want to tell their story or break something out there, but maybe they just don't have the self-confidence or they were made fun of as a kid. I mean, I've always thought I had a super nasally voice and never liked the sound of my voice. And years into public speaking, I'm like, fine, I can, handle it now. So I love it from that perspective of, if, for some reason you couldn't, now you can. I hate it from the perspective of, well, you can't have the human do all this stuff, but instead you just sort of one-clicked it and now it's sort of an average, generic, mediocre, you know, as they say, AI slop.” – Jeremy ToemanThis episode's guest is the founder and CEO of Augie, an AI-assisted video creation and editing studio for marketers and social media managers. He's also the creator and host of Founder at 50, a podcast and newsletter exploring the challenges and reinventions faced by entrepreneurs later in life. He's held leadership roles at WarnerMedia, Etsy, CBS Interactive, and Sling Media, and founded several successful startups in the media tech space. His name is Jeremy Toeman, and we'll be digging into how sound shapes trust, helps tech feel more human, and why even a simple “ding” can change a user's experience. If you love the magic where tech and storytelling meet, this one's for you.As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available, along with other interesting bits of audio-related news. And if you're getting some value from listening, the best ways to show your support are to share this podcast with a friend and leave an honest review. Both those things really help, and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that.(00:00) - The Emotional Power of SoundOur discussion starts with Jeremy's early memories of sound, including a childhood movie that's made a lifelong impression on him. “They incorporate, like, opera,” he describes 1979's Breaking Away, “into the scenes. When he's bike racing, you're hearing like The Marriage of Figaro in the background. And the last time I watched it through, there's something, like, every time the music would hit these moments, I'm just like weeping on my couch.” He shares his perspective as both a child and a parent when it comes to watching scary movies, and we talk about the hidden role cinematic sound plays in setting the mood. “If you not only turn on the lights,” he explains, “but simply mute it... They might still get tense, but, like, the thing that rocks them to their core goes completely away.”(11:46) - The Evolution of Audio TechnologyJeremy tells us more about his career journey, including the pioneering MP3 and streaming technologies he helped develop around the turn of the millennium, and how the limitations of the early internet led to a stronger focus on sound quality. “If the video buffered,” he explains, “you would be expecting it. It was normal. It was 2005, all video buffered, there was no such thing as non-buffering video. Whereas if the audio skipped even a little bit, it would just be really jarring.” He discusses some of the major brands he's worked for, such as CBS and WarnerMedia,...

What if the most important part of your financial plan has nothing to do with the numbers on your statement?   In this episode of the Registered Investment Advisor Podcast, Seth Greene interviews Mitch Hamer, Founder and Lead Advisor at Intersecting Wealth, who shares how his psychologically informed approach helps high-net-worth families navigate money across multiple generations. Drawing on his background in psychology, Mitch explains why the most impactful conversations rarely revolve around spreadsheets and how “life-informed” planning better reflects clients' real goals, stories, and risk capacity. He also discusses evolving the business from a trusted practice into an enduring enterprise while adapting to AI, shifting client expectations, and a rapidly changing wealth landscape.   Key Takeaways: → How life, psychology, behavior, and money shape every client's decision. → More client breakthroughs come from conversations about biases, fears, and dreams than from portfolio models. → How estate planning, account titling, and goal-setting are often underserved, and each entity in a complex family structure deserves its own balance sheet with clear objectives. → What life-informed planning looks like in practice and why a one-size-fits-all model can cause advisors to miss what truly matters to clients. → Why LinkedIn and content creation are key to Intersecting Wealth's next chapter.   Mitch Hamer is the Founder and Lead Advisor at Intersecting Wealth. He values guiding families through the comprehensive financial planning process. Given his approach, which is more psychological and behavioral than financial, Mitch enjoys helping families zoom out on what gets too much attention, zoom in on what is largely ignored by advisors, and then pull it all together. He finds being on the journey with families as they find clarity around their goals and dreams, and supporting them in implementation, uniquely rewarding. Prior to founding Intersecting Wealth in 2024, Mitch spent the previous eleven years as a Financial Advisor to high-net-worth individuals and families. A lot of manufacturing companies can build insanely complex and intricate things, but far fewer are set up to handle what happens once customers start buying. So, what happens when those products start selling at scale, contracts get longer, and customers get bigger? In this episode, we're joined by Chris Hale, CEO and Founder at Klear, to uncover a side of manufacturing that often gets overlooked: how money moves through industrial businesses. The conversation explores how money flows when deal cycles are long, customers are global, and planning starts to feel less like spreadsheets and more like a 3D chessboard. Trade finance sits underneath a lot of this activity, shaping how physical infrastructure gets built and how manufacturers grow.We also hear about Chris' experience touring in a band, and how this shaped the way he thinks about coordination, timing, and handoffs, ideas that show up repeatedly in how he approaches financial systems for manufacturers today. In this episode, find out:How Chris Hale moved from touring in a band to working in finance and building fintech tools for industrial companiesWhy trade finance underpins everything from shipping containers to large-scale infrastructure projectsWhat orchestration means in a manufacturing context, and why clean handoffs matterWhy managing money often becomes harder as companies grow and demand increasesHow global volatility, customer behaviour, and innovation shape financial decision-makingWhere financial visibility tends to break down inside fast-growing manufacturersWhy tying money directly to physical execution changes how companies scaleEnjoying the show? Please leave us a review here. Even one sentence helps. It's feedback from Manufacturing All-Stars like you that keeps us going!Tweetable Quotes:“Trade finance as an asset class is fascinating because it's how the world gets built through money. If you see a boat full of shipping containers, that boat is trade finance. If you see a data center being built, everything going into it is trade finance.”“The board keeps moving. You've got government customers, supply chain disruptions, strikes, geopolitics, and it becomes incredibly difficult to plan with confidence.”“Manufacturer are doing all this precision work, but when it comes to their money, they're doing dead reckoning. They're looking at the sun and guessing, and that's where things fall apart.”Links & mentions:Klear Inc., a payment and working capital infrastructure provider that's designed specifically for modern industrial companies. Behind every growth problem is a lack of structure. Many businesses scale fast, only to realize they've outgrown their systems, their teams, and sometimes even themselves. The result? Burnout, chaos, and missed opportunities are hiding in plain sight. In this episode of The Business of You, we explore what it really takes to grow a business with intention — learning from someone who survived the burnout and chaos caused by the hidden traps of growth for growth's sake. This conversation is about leadership that balances people and performance, and why data without heart (or heart without data) will only take you so far. Megan Crabtree is the Founder and CEO of Crabtree Advisory, a consulting firm trusted by some of the most recognized jewelry retailers and manufacturers in North America. With decades of experience across retail, manufacturing, and wholesale, Megan brings a rare, 360-degree perspective to scaling businesses, building teams, and modernizing operations. In this episode, Megan breaks down how structure fuels sustainable growth, why people-first leadership drives profitability, and how business owners can scale without sacrificing culture or balance. Building Structure That Supports Growth One of the biggest challenges Megan sees across jewelry retailers and manufacturers is a lack of operational structure. Many companies experience explosive growth but don't have the systems, reporting, or processes to support it.  Without SOPs, accountability frameworks, and clear data, growth can quickly become expensive and inefficient. Megan shares how her team helps businesses implement structure that saves time, reduces waste, and creates clarity across departments. From reporting and data analysis to process documentation, these systems allow leaders to make better decisions — faster — while empowering teams to perform at a higher level. The result includes stronger numbers, confidence, consistency, and a foundation that allows companies to grow without constantly putting out fires. Leading with Heart — Without Burning Out After years of working 90-hour weeks in high-pressure retail environments, Megan reached a turning point. Today, she's intentional about balance — for herself, her team, and her clients. Her philosophy is simple: results matter, but how you get there matters more. Megan talks about building a culture rooted in trust, flexibility, and genuine care for people's lives outside of work. That people-first approach extends into her client relationships, where long-term partnerships are built on trust, transparency, and real connection. By focusing on clarity, consistency, and confidence, Megan proves that you don't need endless growth to build a successful business — just the right growth, supported by the right systems and leadership. Enjoy this episode with Megan Crabtree… Soundbytes 03:50 – 04:22 "Everyone thought I was crazy moving to Manhattan to go wholesale when all my success was retail. I was the vice president of a manufacturer that sold to the better independents. After eight months when I grew the business by 70%, I realized I'm really good at this side of the business, too. It made sense to start a consulting firm because I had a 360 view, hands on my entire life. I had never worked another job other than jewelry." 23:44 – 24:21 "We had one instance with a retail client where we segmented out the people that had purchased engagement rings and the people that had not purchased wedding bands and sent out customized, personalized mailers, that made sense to their buying history. Here's what we're recommending. And we got a 35% return rate, which on a mail piece is nearly impossible. So the proof is in the pudding. There's no doubt, but you just have to put in the work and organize the data and segment the data to make sense."  Quotes "Success today requires both heart and hard data." "I don't want to grow for the sake of growing — I want to stay passionate about what we do." "Structure gives you freedom, not restriction." "Data should guide your decisions, not overwhelm them."
