Can drinking milk potentially increase your risk of breast cancer? Join us as we explore the controversial link between bovine leukemia virus (BLV) in milk and breast cancer risk. Sparked by a patient's concern and a meta-analysis review, this episode emphasizes the importance of asking detailed questions in understanding scientific research. We critically examine a meta-analysis on BLV and breast cancer, uncovering significant methodological flaws, from lack of pre-registration to biased selection criteria. Our discussion highlights the need for intellectual honesty and rigorous scrutiny in healthcare research. We also question the credibility of the systematic review, pointing out the drastic reduction of eligible studies and the peer review process's legitimacy. By discussing the 2.57 odds ratio of BLV's association with breast cancer and the difference between correlation and causation, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges in interpreting scientific research. 12:35 --- Webseite | https://www.ebi-pharm.ch/wissen/ebi-aktuell Linkedin | https://www.linkedin.com/company/ebipharm-ag/ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/ebipharmag/ Soundcloud | https://soundcloud.com/ebi-pharm-ag YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzF2mDbNz1YHunlEE-6bluA Apple Podcasts | https://podcasts.apple.com/ch/podcast/ebi-podcast/id1537109827 Spotify | https://open.spotify.com/show/0efW5HJVKaZUYxOOCLUgQU

The Fast Casual Nation Podcast offers exclusive interviews with experts ranging from top chefs and brand makers to executives and restaurants who work in one of the fastest-growing segments of the restaurant industry. In this episode, I talk with Troy Charhon, co-founder, owner and operator of Bread Zeppelin. Troy Charhon and Andrew Schoellkoph are the founders, owners and operators of Bread Zeppelin and have been friends since high school. Charhon started his career in the food service industry as part of the management team for Central Market in the areas of store operations and procurement. Schoellkoph was on the team of Dallas-based eatZi's Market & Bakery where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the store, supervising 200 employees and managing a $17 million profit and loss statement. He also collaborated with the owners and CEO to implement various growth strategies.Charhon and Schoellkoph reconnected in Dallas sharing thoughts and ideas for what was lacking in the local market, Bread Zeppelin soon became their reality. The two partners started crafting their vision and in 2013 the first Bread Zeppelin opened on MacArthur Blvd in Las Colinas.Bread Zeppelin prepares fresh ingredients and serves them in a cored out freshly baked artisan baguette. Charhon says “the bread is definitely the star at Bread Zeppelin.” We talk about the menu and Charhon shares that all of their proteins are made in house. They offer steak, turkey, fried shrimp and tofu and then different varieties of lettuce. The menu keeps up with seasonality even running a limited time offer or LTO with strawberries and goat cheese. Bread Zeppelin also offers crispy onions served with blue cheese dressing, Charhon says for those that want to indulge. I asked Charhon if the supply chain has been challenging when planning to offer LTOs and he said that “I think we've got great vendors and partners and if for some reason we can't get the exact spec of a certain product, we can definitely pivot to something else. Um and we hope our and our guests are very understanding. We're all dealing and have dealt with challenging times but the LTO is supposed to be exciting, something fun and different and you know that's what we want to put forth to our guests just so they can get a little spice in their assortment.”To hear about the industry labor shortages, the launch of the new app and customer rewards, plus Bread Zeppelin's plans for expansion listen to this episode of Fast Casual Nation on Apple Podcasts.

Controlling bovine leukemia virus in dairy herds by identifying and removing cows with the highest proviral load and lymphocyte counts A pilot intervention trial revisiting the concept of selective culling and segregation for BLV positive cattle in an effort to reduce BLV transmission. Published by Ruggiero, B. Norby, O.J. Benitez, H. Hutchinson, K.R.B. Sporer, C. Droscha, C.L. Swenson, P.C. Bartlett Objective: To reduce bovine leukemia virus (BLV) transmission and prevalence in commercial dairy herds using proviral load (PVL) and lymphocyte count (LC) measurements as indicators of the most infectious animals for culling or segregation. Hypothesis: They hypothesized that BLV within-herd transmission and prevalence could be reduced by identifying and removing (culling or segregation) ELISA-positive cows with the highest PVL and LC. Location: Michigan and Wisconsin Methods: Milk or blood samples from adult cows in our 3 Midwestern dairy farm field trials were tested semiannually with ELISA for BLV antibodies, and ELISA-positive cattle were then retested using a blood LC and a quantitative PCR test for PVL to identify the animals presumed to be most infectious. Herd managers were encouraged to consider PVL and LC status when making cull decisions, and to segregate cows with the highest PVL and LC from their BLV ELISA-negative herd mates where possible. Outcomes: After 2 to 2.5 yr of this intervention, the incidence risk of new infections decreased in all 3 herds combined, from 13.8 to 2.2, and the overall herd prevalence decreased in all 3 herds combined from 62.0 to 20.7%, suggesting that this approach can efficiently reduce BLV transmission as well as prevalence. This is encouraging, because a very low prevalence of BLV infection would make it economically feasible to cull the remaining ELISA-positive cattle, as was achieved in national eradication programs in other countries decades ago.

We will be walking approximately 10 – 15 km’s.   In 2015, I walked the Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela in 40 days and averagely 22 km’s per day. In 2017, I walked via the Camino Norte and Camino Primitivo to Santiago de Compostela. And I just returned from Spain where I walked from Leon to Santiago in 13 days.  I love to share some of my best practices on the Camino whilst walking.   And it is also fun to practice together, share some pilgrim stories and have some meaningful conversations and grow our nature awareness together. Most of the time, I also share a nature-based tool that helps you discover more about yourself.   What to expect? These Camino walks are hikes mainly in nature with some climbs and approximately 10 – 15 km’s. Please bring a backpack with a snack, sufficient water, and wear good hiking boots.   Dates:   Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 6:00 am – 9:00 am – Seroe Pela Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 6:00 am – 9:00 am – Sabana Basora / National Park Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 6:00 am – 9:00 am – Calbas Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 6:00 am – 9:00 am – California Lighthouse   Sign up at 594 4250 or email geasouge@gmail.com. As helpful and important as the imagery of God the Father is, what we too often miss is the imagery of God the Mother — just as illuminating of the character of Jesus and the God of the Bible. To mark Mother's Day this year and to learn more about the mothering character of God, various women in the BLV community offered us reflections on their mothers or on motherhood.

Even though humility means hits to our egos, in Vince's experience, it has given and continues to give gift after gift to him personally. So what does it actually mean or look like for a community or an individual to prioritize humility?
