It's a proper News Day Tuesday today on the Majority Report   On today's program:   Today is primary day in Illinois and AIPAC is pouring millions in as the scramble to beat the anti-genocide candidates.   Trump claims no expert could have known that Iran would retaliate by targeting neighboring countries' infrastructure. But Nate Swanson, a 20-year State Department veteran focused on Iran, had already outlined this exact scenario. Swanson was later pushed out after Laura Loomer urged Trump to remove officials she viewed as disloyal.   Trump Claims to have predicted that Iran would weaponize the strait of Hormuz, just like he "predicted" that Osama Bin Laden would knock down the World Trade Center towers.   We take a look back at when Michael Moore was booed at the Oscars for speaking out again Bush and his illegal war in Iraq.   Trump says that it will be his honor to "take" Cuba saying whether he "frees it or just takes it...I can do whatever I want".   Trump is asked about Israel's planned ground invasion in Lebanon to which he responds with a rambling story about how he is confused about how people live in places that get bombed so much.   In the Fun Half:   Tim Pool attempts a hit piece on Mamdani but falls flat. He claims Mamdani is telling the working class they're no longer welcome in New York, a fundamental misreading of Zohran's platform, which has centered on affordability from the very beginning.   Trump unleashes a HIPPA violation on a Florida congressman by revealing gruesome details about his health issues during a press conference at the Kennedy Center.   RFK, Jr releases an AI generated video of him wrestling a twinkie. One memorable thing that came out of my appearance was the birth of my fourth grandchild during the session. On the personal side, I'm clearly a homebody and love hanging out with my wife, whom I met in college in 1980, greasing donut trays at 5:30 am at the student bakery, a part of the second-largest non-military cafeteria in the world, located at Michigan State University. There is nothing better than when any of our four sons and their significant others, including the grandchildren, are in town. For our fortieth wedding anniversary, my wife and I went to Antarctica (perhaps I'm not a homebody?) While I'm at it, a couple of formative childhood adventures: At 12 years old, I climbed to the snow line of Mt. Kilimanjaro (leadership said I was too young to summit - boo!) In middle school, I traveled to the Soviet Union on a study abroad program before the wall fell. When I was a teenager and before I got my driver's license, I rode my bicycle from Oregon to Virginia in the summer of 1976, carrying all my gear (my parents claim they gave me a one-way airplane ticket to fly across the US, and I came back!) At age 25, I co-founded Miller Samuel because I didn't know any better. In my offline hours, I love to read, explore new music, try to make snow, attempt to catch lobsters, and endeavor to connect to my backyard birdhouse camera from whatever airplane I happen to be flying on. God formed Adam and Eve on the sixth day of creation… making their first full day in the Garden of Eden the Sabbath – a day of REST. God is gracious so He didn't start them out on a Monday … instead, God emphasized the importance and holiness of spending time in his presence FIRST, before the work week begins. He asks us to look to him FIRST. Rest in Him FIRST. And only then, after worshiping, resting, and praying, are we to be sent out to do the work that God has for us. The Sabbath is a GIFT. And when we don't treasure it, we don't honor God. Remember, Jesus was always busy but NEVER in a hurry. He always made time for people, for rest, and for prayer. So, what about you? Read OnlineAnd when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask him any more questions. Mark 12:34Among the scribes and Pharisees, the scribe in today's Gospel stands out. He got it right, and Jesus praised him for his openness and understanding. The scribe began by asking Jesus a question: “Which is the first of all the commandments?” At that time, the scribes and Pharisees often debated the question of which commandments were most important. From the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament, they derived 613 commandments. Among them were the Ten Commandments and numerous ceremonial and civil laws by which they were to abide. Some religious leaders taught that all 613 of the commandments were equally important. In addition to these commandments, rabbinic traditions also offered detailed commentary on how they were to be fulfilled.Jesus enters this debate and answers by quoting the Shema from Deuteronomy 6:4–5 and Leviticus 19:18: “Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” These two commandments were clear articulations of the most central duties to which we are called—love of God and love of neighbor. Furthermore, they were a twofold summary of the Ten Commandments, the most important of the Old Testament Laws.While many scribes and Pharisees were scrupulous about keeping the external law in a detailed and ritualistic manner, they often failed to perceive and live its central meaning. Jesus clarifies this meaning in His concise answer. He does not dismiss the importance of God's many commandments but highlights their central purpose. The ritualistic laws and moral commandments, while essential, are ultimately means to an end; they direct us to love. Jesus shows that love of God and neighbor is the true fulfillment of the Law, uniting both aspects into one comprehensive commandment that sums up everything God asks of us.Jesus was not rejecting the necessity of the commandments themselves but was emphasizing that their observance must flow from the heart. God's Law is not just about external compliance but about cultivating a heart transformed by love. The laws and rituals of faith, such as fasting in Lent, attending Sunday Mass, and going to Confession, have their rightful place in our spiritual lives. They shape us and help keep us close to God. However, we must always remember their deeper purpose: They are meant to foster a greater charity for God and others. Without that charity, even the most rigorous external observances can become empty.Reflect today on how obedient you are to God's Law. Most importantly, ponder the depth of charity you have. True charity toward God and neighbor will enable us to fulfill all external observance of God's Law, but it will not stop there. There is no limit to love. We can always increase it. We must increase it. Charity, while requiring our active cooperation, ultimately flows from God's grace working within us. Without His grace, our efforts to love are incomplete. If we understand this and seek to love with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, then, like this scribe, Jesus will say to us, “You are not far from the Kingdom of Heaven.”My loving Lord, You call us to love You with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. You fulfilled this commandment perfectly, and You promise us the grace to do the same. Help me to obey every detail of Your divine will and grant me the Gift of Understanding so that I will understand and live Your Law in the way You intend.
