Today, we are joined by Rob Carver to unpack one of the most volatile weeks seen in commodity markets in years. The conversation centers on silver's sharp rise and sudden collapse, using it as a case study in volatility targeting, liquidity risk, and disciplined position sizing. From Freaky Friday to broader dislocations across assets, they examine why systematic risk management matters when markets move faster than narratives. The discussion expands into diversification, correlation assumptions, alternative markets, and new research on trend portfolio construction, offering a grounded reminder that survival often matters more than precision.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Rob on Twitter.Episode TimeStamps:00:00 - Introduction to the Systematic Investor Series03:56 - Freaky Friday in precious metals04:29 - How Rob trades silver in a volatility adjusted framework10:25 - When volatility forces position reduction12:38 - Liquidity myths in hot commodity markets16:25 - Risk management lessons from silver's collapse22:28 - Dislocations across assets beyond metals24:54 - Fed chair speculation and muted market reactions31:33 - Discretionary versus systematic decision making34:03 - Trend barometer and market breadth update37:34 - Estimating portfolio correlation from PnL41:18 - Correlation versus volatility predictability45:13 - MAN Group paper...

Many advisors are starting to ask the same question: Should I get a business partner?Burnout, isolation, and wearing every hat in the business has many wondering if teaming up is the answer. As long-time 50/50 business partners, Jennifer and Robin share what their partnership looks like behind the scenes and the questions most advisors aren't asking before entering an agreement that affects their brand, income, and future. They also reveal the financial model least likely to create tension and why many advisors may actually need support that could be solved by hiring, not partnering. Research is everywhere in HR. Surveys. Dashboards. Trend reports. Predictions for what comes next. But having more research available does not automatically mean leaders feel more confident using it. HR and compensation teams are under pressure to make decisions that are fair, competitive, and explainable, often while the market feels uncertain and noisy. In this episode of Comp and Coffee, Ruth Thomas sits down with Stacey Harris from Sapient Insights Group and Amy Stewart from Payscale to move beyond headlines and rankings and talk about what the research is actually telling us right now.

The panel explored the intersection of natural and man-made materials in landscape design, highlighting the balance between aesthetic, sustainability, and functional concerns. Participants discussed how interior and landscape designers borrow nature to create cohesive environments, including outdoor “rooms” and hardscape features softened with plantings. Material selection — stone, metal, glass, composite decking, and synthetic turf — was debated, with attention to local sourcing, durability, environmental impact, and client expectations. The panel also emphasized the sensory experience of landscapes, touching on sight, sound, smell, and taste, and how design can evoke memory and emotion. Sustainability, fire safety, maintenance, and longevity were recurring themes, particularly in the adoption of synthetic materials that mimic natural ones while reducing environmental or upkeep costs. Borrowed landscape: Using surrounding natural colors and textures to inform material choices in hardscape design. Softening hardscape: Plantings and layered design to maintain depth without overwhelming the property. Context-appropriate material selection: Stone, metal, glass, gravel, and concrete chosen according to environment, use, and climate. Trend toward natural imperfection: Broken edges, less precision, biophilic design responding to a highly digital, precise world. Sustainability tensions: Balancing natural and synthetic materials for longevity, cost, and environmental impact. Synthetic decking and recycled composites: TimberTech and similar products for durability, low maintenance, and fire safety. Artificial turf considerations: High-use areas, water savings, lifespan, recycling challenges. Sensory-driven design: Sight, sound, smell, and taste incorporated into landscapes for holistic human experiences. Childhood memory and emotional recall: Design that evokes personal sensory memory for users. Fire and climate constraints: Materials must meet modern safety and insurance standards.

Last night, I scrolled all the way back to 2016.Not to reminisce. Not to brag. Not to cringe. But to meet her.The woman who was strong, visible, admired, and constantly performing. The woman who finally felt desirable. The woman who thought perfection would make her safe. The woman who had no idea what was coming. This episode began as a light conversation about the “2016 is the new 2026” Instagram trend. It became something else entirely. It became a mirror. A reckoning. A soft, emotional reunion with every version of myself I've ever been. And man… it wasn't an easy reunion. In this episode, I share (through some tears) what it felt like to scroll through old photos, old captions, and old identities, feel the pain my past caused some, and realize how far I've traveled from the life built on validation…to this new life built on peace.

From precious metals to currencies, from crisis alpha to geopolitical risk, this episode offers a grounded look at why trend following thrives during disruption and why regime change remains its natural habitat.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Katy on LinkedIn.Episode TimeStamps:00:00 - Introduction to the Systematic Investor Series00:39 - Weather disruptions and market perspective02:31 - Precious metals and extreme commodity moves04:28 - Gold, central banks, and monetary regime shifts07:43 - Replication versus full CTA diversification09:47 - Liquidity differences across metals12:03 - Metals leading trend performance in 202615:01 - Multi-sector trends and diversification benefits20:13 - Media attention and the return of trend following23:29 - Research insights on speed and dispersion31:44 - Trend speed and timing tradeoffs40:59 - Market concentration and narrow universes43:19 - Volatility estimation as a hidden...

UNH and Health Stocks - DOWN 20% today - The administration's proposal (via the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS) for Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates to rise by only 0.09% in 2027. This was far below Wall Street expectations of 4-6% (or higher), following a more generous ~5% increase for 2026. - The near-flat rate aims to improve payment accuracy, curb overbilling practices, and protect taxpayers, according to CMS statements, but it sparked widespread concerns about squeezed insurer margins, potential benefit cuts for seniors, reduced plan offerings, or market exits. - UnitedHealth has significant exposure to Medicare Advantage (roughly 30% of national enrollment), making it particularly vulnerable. The proposal, announced late Monday (January 26), led to a broader sell-off in health insurers: - - Humana (HUM) plunged over 20-21%. - - CVS Health (CVS) and Elevance Health (ELV) each dropped around 13-14%. Tech Earnings Microsoft (MSFT) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: Earnings per share (EPS): about $3.86 and Revenue: about $80 billion - Growth: high teens year over year revenue growth - Investors are focused on Azure and broader cloud growth, particularly how much of that growth is coming from AI related demand. Microsoft has built a reputation for consistent execution, which also means expectations are high. The critical issues will be cloud growth sustainability, margin stability, and how aggressively management plans to keep spending on AI infrastructure. Meta Platforms (META) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: EPS: about $8.15–$8.20 and Revenue: about $58–$59 billion - Growth: roughly 20–21% year over year revenue growth - Advertising remains the core driver, with AI driven ad targeting continuing to improve returns for advertisers. While topline growth expectations remain strong, investors are closely watching expense growth. The biggest question is whether rising AI and infrastructure spending can be managed without eroding margins or spooking investors, as Meta works through the next phase of its AI strategy. Tesla (TSLA) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: EPS (non GAAP): about $0.40–$0.45 and Revenue: about $24.5–$25 billion - Trend: earnings expected to be sharply lower than a year ago - Tesla enters earnings with the weakest expectations among the major tech names this week. Vehicle deliveries declined year over year, and automotive margins remain under pressure. While the energy and services segments continue to grow, they are not yet large enough to offset slowing EV demand. - Investors will be far more focused on forward guidance than on the quarter itself—particularly updates on Full Self Driving, robotaxis, and the broader AI roadmap. Apple (AAPL) Reports: Thursday, January 29 (After Market Close) Wall Street Expectations - EPS: about $2.65–$2.67 and Revenue: about $138 billion Growth: approximately 11–12% year over year revenue growth - This is Apple's most important quarter of the year. Expectations call for record revenue driven by the iPhone 17 cycle and continued Services growth. The focus will be on margins, China demand, and forward guidance—particularly how higher costs (memory prices and tariffs) may impact profitability. Apple typically beats expectations, but the stock reaction will hinge on what management says about growth beyond this quarter. Company Ticker Report Date Est. What does a creative director actually do at a major fashion publication? Is Chrome Hearts still worth the investment in 2026? How did vintage Bape become the gateway drug for an entire generation of streetwear obsessives? And why is Rick Owens' FW14 Moody still influencing how we dress today? We sit down with Paul Heavener, Creative Director at Hypebeast, for a deep dive into his decade-long journey from Bape Talk forum moderator to leading one of fashion media's most influential creative teams. Paul shares stories about discovering Bape in a college dorm in 2005, his first fake hoodie, lining up outside in NYC for shark hoodies, and how internet fashion forums shaped streetwear culture before Instagram existed.Sol and Michael also chat with Paul about his obsession with Rick Owens (specifically the FW2014 Moody show, crop Stooges, and the Little Joe jacket), his complicated relationship with Chrome Hearts and their disappearing customization services, and why he now hunts for 1930s French workwear instead of hyped releases. We break down the rise of Golf as a hyped area of men's fashion and post-COVID individual sports culture, how Hypebeast balances legacy readers with Gen-Z audiences, the return of print magazines as collector's items, and why the anime-to-fashion pipeline is more real than ever. Finally, Paul reveals his favorite emerging designers (Professor E, Taiga Takahashi, Camiel Fortgens), explains how Hypebeast's creative studio actually operates, and shares his path from intern to creative director.Whether you're interested in breaking into fashion media, understanding how creative direction works at scale, hunting for archive pieces, or just want to know what the creative director of Hypebeast wears day-to-day (spoiler: Ann Demeulemeester jeans, Rick Owens long sleeves, and Chrome Hearts jewelry), this episode delivers. For extra episodes, early access to episodes, and giveaways, subscribe to our HeroHero!Episode Tags: Hypebeast interview 2026, A Bathing Ape, Nigo streetwear, Chrome Hearts jewelry, Chrome Hearts 2026, archive fashion, menswear podcast, fashion media career, creative director career, fashion editorial, streetwear trends 2026, French workwear vintage, Hype Golf, golf fashion 2026, golf streetwear, Hypebeast magazine, menswear trends 2026, Lady Machine DJ, fashion industry podcast, high fashion podcast, JoJo Bizarre Adventure fashion, Paul HSol Thompson and Michael Smith explore the world and subcultures of fashion, interviewing creators, personalities, and industry insiders to highlight the new vanguard of the fashion world.

Much of it is well-intentioned but doesn't actually help you feel better. In this episode, we break down five wellness trends we are officially leaving behind as we move into 2026. These are the habits, mindsets, and messages that sound productive on the surface but often lead to stress, confusion, burnout, and paralysis. We unpack how tracking everything can disconnect you from your body, how cortisol panic has gone completely off the rails, how to recognize marketing traps, why hunger is not a badge of honor, and how over-researching keeps you stuck instead of moving. This conversation is about trusting your body, using awareness without obsession, choosing consistency over extremes, and remembering that action, not perfection, is what actually creates change. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by wellness culture, this episode will feel like a deep exhale.(00:00:48) Welcome back to the podcast(00:04:50) Today's topic: 5 Wellness Trends We're Dropping(00:07:30) Trend #5: Tracking Everything(00:19:50) Trend #4 Cortisol Panic(00:28:13) Trend #3 “Her” Programs(00:34:31) Trend #2 Hunger as Proof of Success(00:41:08) Trend #1 Researching Forever Acting Never(00:48:21) What we're taking into 2026 insteadWant to leave the TTSL Podcast a voicemail? Closing the CX Gap with the Help of Artificial Intelligence Shep interviews Michele Carlson, Director of Product Marketing & Head of Content Strategy at NiCE. They discuss the top AI trends shaping customer experience and transforming contact centers. This is based on Michele and Shep's recent webinar that featured 10 trends. CLICK HERE to enjoy the full webinar. This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more: What does "AI first" mean in customer experience? How can businesses maintain a human-centric approach while integrating artificial intelligence in customer service? How does AI help streamline workflows for customer service agents? Why is it important for companies to keep humans involved in designing AI systems? How can agentic AI improve customer interactions and resolve issues more efficiently? Top Takeaways: AI has advanced to the point where we can use it to take actions and complete workflows. It not only understands what customers say and provides answers, but it can also complete tasks like sending a package or updating an account. Shep and Michele share five AI trends that shape the future of customer experience and contact centers. Trend #1: AI first, but it doesn't mean AI only. Companies use AI to get quick answers or to resolve issues quickly. But this doesn't mean eliminating human customer support. It means that when things get too complicated or tricky for AI to handle, human agents can step in to make sure the experience is personalized and complete. Trend #2: Human-Centric AI. 72% of customers say that they've experienced AI and automation benefits. Technology must be designed with humans at its center to truly understand and address human needs while empowering both customers and agents. Trend #3: Agentic AI. Agentic means artificial intelligence that can use language to take action autonomously. To put it simply, the system can take the customer's data, determine what needs to be done, and complete the task without human intervention, allowing humans (employees) to focus on more important and complex issues. Trend #4: Experience Memory. AI can help companies not just remember who their customers are, but also their problems, preferences, and relevant details of past interactions. Trend #5: AI Observability. Don't invest in something you can't measure. Success isn't just about using as much new technology as possible. It is about seeing real results like smoother processes, happy employees, and satisfied customers. LAMs, or Language Action Models, help AI move beyond data analysis. They interpret the language, determine the intent, and act accordingly. They streamline agents' workflows by automating repetitive tasks and integrating multiple systems, so agents spend less time juggling multiple tabs and focus more on interacting with customers. There is a 40% gap between what companies think their service is like and how customers actually feel about the experience. Companies need to listen to their customers, get real feedback, and invest in people and technologies to close the gap. Plus, Michele discusses more stats on AI-powered experiences that can help you enhance customer satisfaction and streamline business operations. Tune in! In this episode, Niels hosts Yoav Git to explore inflation risk, bond fragility, and the changing role of trend following in a world defined by supply shocks and declining trust. Drawing on recent research and market behavior, the conversation examines why traditional bond allocations struggle during inflationary regimes and how commodity trend strategies may offer structural resilience. The discussion spans geopolitics, deglobalization, energy markets, fixed income autocorrelation, and the limits of forecasting macro outcomes. Rather than predicting inflation's path, the episode focuses on portfolio construction that can endure multiple regimes. What emerges is a disciplined argument for robustness over precision in an increasingly unstable global system.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Yoav on LinkedIn.Episode TimeStamps:00:00 - Introduction and series context01:08 - Inflation back on the radar02:38 - Recent podcast influences and inflation narratives06:56 - Geopolitics, trust, and market fragmentation08:52 - Commodities, volatility, and supply driven moves10:48 - Trend performance and early 2026 conditions11:30 - Fixed income, FX, and emerging market trends17:26 - The all weather portfolio problem18:18 - Bonds, inflation regimes, and correlation breakdowns22:39 - Commodity trend as a defensive building block27:01 - Are markets signaling higher inflation ahead30:04 - What...
