The Plant Free MD with Dr Anthony Chaffee: A Carnivore Podcast
There is a weird trend now arguing that you should go low fat on a carnivore diet, because wild animals can be lean and therefore our ancestors would have only eaten lean meat on a carnivore diet. this is demonstrably false, and unsafe, for many reasons, as explained in this video. (My video "Is Ketosis Harmful?" https://youtu.be/nJyUQmRc1q8?si=r2IngkzpwxEqkCFv ) What we seem to see are people who may not be doing a full carnivore diet, just fatty meat and water, and will include quite a lot of dairy such as milk or cheese, yogurt etc I may even include artificial sweeteners, which absolutely will Elevate insulin the fat storage hormone. People do this and they tend to gain weight or can't lose the weight they want to lose, and they get convinced that this is because they are eating too much fat, even though eating high-fat carnivore actually improved their health, nutrition, society, and help with weight loss earlier on before they added in the dairy and the artificial sweeteners. Once they lower the fat, they start to get the majority of their calories from protein and can start getting very unwell from low-grade protein poisoning. this may lose some weight, as an early sign of protein poisoning is rapid weight loss, but this is unhealthy weight loss. Then they might think that this is just a fact of being in ketosis so they adding carbohydrates, and because they are now getting calories from something besides protein, the protein poisoning subsides, thus confirming their own bias. So by not doing carnivore and using artificial sweeteners and/or dairy people start to gain weight or not be able to lose as much weight as they want to, so they switch to low fat hoping that will help. Then they start feeling unwell, like we do to low-grade protein poisoning and likely malnutrition from a lack of fat soluble vitamins, and so they think that carnivore didn't work for them and they start adding back in other things like carbohydrates. Then they tell others that carnivore didn't work for them and maybe it doesn't work for others as well, but the problem is that they weren't doing carnivore in the first place. Carnivore is a complete absence of anything except meat and eggs, and for some people not even eggs. If you add in a lot of dairy and / or sweeteners you will not get the same results as others, and you will likely gain weight. Fat is an essential nutrient, and our ancestors absolutely prioritize the fat, and ate the fattiest animals that they could find. #carnivore #weightloss #nutrition If you liked this and want to learn more go to my new website www.DrAnthonyChaffee.com

Send us a textHave you ever wondered what happens inside your body when you don't eat for a while — when you give yourself space between meals? In this week's episode of Project Weight Loss, we explore that quiet magic with the story of Nobel Laureate Maester Yoshinori Ohsumi, whose discovery of autophagy — the body's natural process of self-cleaning and renewal — changed how we understand health, vitality, and longevity. From his humble lab in Japan to the moment he glimpsed a new world under the microscope, Ohsumi's curiosity reveals how our bodies are wired to restore themselves, especially in moments of pause. We'll talk about how autophagy connects to fasting, weight management, brain health, and aging — and why giving your body a little space to “dine in” can make such a difference. You'll hear about Ohsumi's groundbreaking experiments, his partnership with his wife and collaborator Mariko Ohsumi, and how their discoveries invite us to see self-renewal as a natural rhythm of life. I'll also link this episode to my earlier one on the Blue Zones — where long-living communities show us what it means to live in harmony with our biology. Listen in, reflect, and maybe even give your body that gentle reset it's been asking for.Quote of the Week:“We are wired for feast and famine, not feast, feast, feast.” — Dr. Jason FungListen to my related episode: The Blue Zones: The Secrets to Living Citations1. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of metabolism health, long-term fat loss strategies, and the real reason your body feels stuck. Most people carry around a mental scorecard of their failed attempts. Every diet that fell apart, every workout routine that fizzled out, every promise to stop snacking that ended with your hand in the chip bag - they all stack up as evidence that maybe you're just not cut out for lasting change. Your brain uses this track record like a crystal ball, predicting that your next attempt will end the same way. And when you're stuck in that loop of trying and failing, it becomes harder to trust yourself each time you want to try again. The real challenge with habit change isn't finding the perfect program or the right motivation. It's believing you can actually stick with it when your history says otherwise. Join me this week to discover how to stack small wins, expect discomfort, and keep moving forward even when belief feels far away. If you're tired of starting over and ready to build lasting habits (even if you don't fully believe you can yet), this episode is for you. When it comes to ending the struggle with food, most smart women overcomplicate things. We tell ourselves we need more willpower, more control, or the perfect plan - and then we either never quite get started, or end up in cycles of not hitting that perfect mark and endlessly starting over. Real freedom from overeating often begins in the simplest, most human ways - through small, imperfect steps and compassionate consistency.Together, we'll explore:Why your brain loves to make change harder than it needs to beHow simple, imperfect actions can lead to profound transformationThe role of decision and daily consistency in breaking overeating cyclesWhy community and support create momentum that lastsThis episode is a reminder that peace with food doesn't come from control; it comes from clarity, compassion, and the willingness to keep going, one (imperfect) step at a time.Full show notes and transcript at https://toomuchonherplate.com/stop-overeating-with-simplicity/ Watch the free, on-demand masterclass: The 3 Keys to Ending Emotional Eating and Overeating (Without Deprivation, Vicious Cycles, or Superhuman Amounts of Willpower: https://toomuchonherplate.com/registration-page/ Find out what's triggering emotional eating. Drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro were first developed to treat diabetes. They turned out to be so effective at helping people lose weight that new versions were approved for weight loss. And now, their use has skyrocketed. One in every eight American adults has taken what are known as GLP-1 drugs. They not only lead to health benefits associated with weight loss, like lower risk of heart attack and stroke, they also seem to tame addictive cravings and boost sleep. Coming up at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, MPR News guest host Catharine Richert talks with a doctor and a dietitian about the exploding popularity of GLP-1 drugs, side effects and how to use them responsibly.

Episode #227 In this Fasting Q&A episode, hosted by Coach Lisa Chance, Dr. Jason Fung answers questions from the TFM Community: 1. Can people tweak the 5:2 diet with the two non-consecutive restricted calorie days as full fast days (water only) and reap the same if not better results, or must food in the form of nutrient dense and low calorie be consumed? [09:21] 2. I have seen videos of Dr Fung endorsing the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD). Does he, Dr Fung advocate it for T2D? I am asking because of the plant based (carb) items in the kit, like the soups, crackers, and bars and the potential spike in insulin and glucose consuming those items? [14:30] 3. While an individualized approach to managing and/or reversing diabetes is best, from a diet perspective, is it generally better to have a diverse diet and manage diabetes with medication if needed, rather than restricting your diet to avoid medication? [18:55] 4. Can one - or more importantly should one - practice OMAD to reverse IR or T2D? Is there a nutritional concern here? Is the length of time that you do OMAD a factor? [21:12] 5. Do I have to leave the weights workout for the last day of prolonged fasting and eat after the workout or can I work out with weights every day during a 5-day fast without problem and continue fasting AFTER the heavy weights workout? [27:01] 6. Is long term ketosis bad for the body? Some doctors are saying it is and you should carb cycle, but are there any studies supporting this? A few months ago, we got a gut-wrenching anonymous post in our PFN Weight Loss community. The overwhelm that she felt as a mother and wife, plus the pressure she was holding to lose weight became unbearable, so she reached out for support. The response was so powerful that it brought tears to my eyes. Today I am sharing the post and my six point response in detail. Because I know that if one of my own clients felt this way about weight loss, there are so many other women out there who do, too. In this episode, Tina sits down with fellow FDN practitioner Michele Scarlet for an honest conversation about women's health, metabolism, and weight loss. Michele shares her personal story with breast implant illness and how the hidden toxic load on her body impacted her health. They discuss why “healthy habits” like 4 a.m. workouts, fasted training, and constant discipline and willpower can sometimes do more harm than good, and why the “calories in, calories out” approach fails without strong metabolic health. The conversation also dives into the real causes of bloating, the crucial role your liver plays in energy and fat loss, and how to naturally support it for better hormone balance. Michele helps clear up confusion around carbs, belly fat, and CGMs while offering practical strategies to help women achieve true, sustainable health. Here's what you'll learn: - Her personal story with breast implant illness and the hidden toxic load on her body - Why your 4 a.m. workouts, fasted training, and pushing harder could be stalling your progress - Why willpower and discipline aren't the answer and what you should do instead - Why calories in, calories out fails without strong metabolic health - What constant bloating really means and how to fix it - The overlooked role your liver plays in weight loss and metabolism - How to naturally support your liver for better energy and fat loss - Clearing up confusion around carbs, belly fat, and CGMs Explore microdosing and other peptides: https://elliemd.com/tinahaupert Peptides for Women: https://carrotsncake.com/offers/3Q7wttmr?coupon_code=PROTOCOL19 Connect with Tina Haupert: https://carrotsncake.com/ Facebook: Carrots 'N' Cake https://www.facebook.com/carrotsncake Instagram: @carrotsncake https://www.instagram.com/carrotsncake YouTube: Tina Haupert https://www.youtube.com/user/carrotsncake About Tina Haupert: Tina Haupert is the owner of Carrots ‘N' Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). Have you noticed that no matter how healthy you eat or how much you move, the scale just won't budge? You're not imagining it — as we age, our metabolism, hormones, and muscle mass all shift in ways that make weight loss harder. In today's episode, I'm revealing what's really behind midlife weight gain and how to reset your body naturally at any age. What if the reason you're bloated isn't because you're eating too much, but because you're not eating enough? In this episode, we dive into the surprising truth about how eating more food, especially the right kinds in the right amounts, can actually reduce bloating, improve digestion, and help your body finally feel calm and regular again. For many women, undereating or intermittent fasting seems to help at first. You feel “lighter” and less puffy. But over time, that same strategy can backfire, slowing digestion, stressing the gut, and throwing hormones completely out of rhythm. This conversation breaks down why that happens and what to do instead. You'll learn how adequate food intake reactivates your digestive fire, boosts stomach acid and enzyme production, and supports smoother motility. We also explore how eating enough improves bowel regularity, fuels gut repair, and even reduces bloating by calming inflammation and supporting the nervous system. We unpack why skipping meals or surviving on “clean” salads can actually make things worse, and how building balanced meals with protein, carbs, and healthy fats can reset your digestion and hormones. Plus, we'll talk about the hidden link between undereating and the binge-restrict cycle and why eating more consistently throughout the day helps you break free from it.
