La guerra de Ucrania ha entrado en una fase en la que ambos bandos atacan la retaguardia del contrario, pero el castigo no se reparte por igual. La retaguardia ucraniana es realmente la Unión Europea y el Reino Unido, que este año han aprobado un paquete de 90.000 millones de euros en ayuda y estudian otro paquete similar financiado con activos rusos congelados. Y la horizontal, que consistiría en ampliar la extensión del conflicto para congelarlo después en mejores condiciones. Todo aprovechándose de la actitud de Donald Trump que ha debilitado la disuasión hasta tal punto que la semana pasada su Gobierno tuvo que enviar en secreto a Moscú al director de la CIA para recordar a Putin que el artículo 5 sigue en pie. Donald Trump anunció el viernes el que, según él, es el mayor acuerdo petrolero de la historia. Con este acuerdo Estados Unidos se asegurará el control mayoritario de más de 65.000 millones de barriles de reservas probadas venezolanas sin coste para el contribuyente. Parece algo irresistible, pero la contabilidad falla desde el primer vistazo. EEUU no será propietario de esos barriles, sino accionista de una sociedad con derecho a desarrollar 17 campos repartidos entre la Faja del Orinoco y el lago de Maracaibo. Además, entre un barril bajo tierra y otro listo para embarcar median años de inversión, tecnología y seguridad jurídica, algo que no abunda en Venezuela. El socio elegido es North American Blue Energy Partners, una empresa registrada en Barbados y controlada por Alejandro Betancourt, un empresario enriquecido al calor de los contratos del chavismo e investigado por presunto blanqueo en España y en Suiza. La operación la remató la Oficina de Capital Estratégico del Pentágono mediante unos warrants que dan al departamento de Defensa derechos sobre la producción futura por una prima simbólica. De los porcentajes de producción que irán a EEUU circulan varias versiones lo que significa que los detalles del acuerdo aún se encuentran lejos de estar cerrados. El calendario explica las prisas. La guerra de Irán mantiene cerrado el estrecho de Ormuz y las elecciones de medio mandato son en un par de meses. El problema es que la realidad sobre el terreno en Venezuela es muy distinta. Desde la caída de Maduro en enero, ninguna gran petrolera estadounidense se ha metido en aquel país por los riesgos que entraña y porque hay que gastar demasiado dinero para revivir la infraestructura. El país tiene hoy sólo dos taladros de perforación activos frente a los 120 que había en 1998, y produce en torno a un millón de barriles diarios, un tercio de lo de entonces, más o menos lo que extrae Dakota del Norte. Custodia, eso sí, el 17% de las reservas mundiales pero solo aporta el 1% de la producción mundial. Las petroleras son reacias a invertir allí porque las expropiaciones del pasado aún se recuerdan. Todavía hoy ConocoPhillips reclama 12.000 millones de dólares y ExxonMobil otros 1.000. Ante la falta de interés de las grandes petroleras la Casa Blanca está tentando a las más pequeñas dirigidas por gente próxima al presidente, pero incapaces de afrontar los gastos que requerirían desarrollar los proyectos de extracción de crudo pesado en la faja del Orinoco. Hay, además, otro elemento no menor. La Constitución venezolana de 1999 prohíbe de forma explícita transferir unos yacimientos que pertenecen a la República. Delcy Rodríguez es una presidenta ilegítima, gobierna sin haber pasado por las urnas tras heredar el cargo de un presidente hoy preso que robó las elecciones de 2024. En Venezuela todavía quedan unos 380 presos políticos y los principales jerarcas del chavismo como Diosdado Cabello o Vladimir Padrino siguen en el Gobierno. Los negociadores estadounidenses admiten que la estructura societaria privada se eligió para atar a los futuros gobiernos venezolanos, pero eso implica que la democracia no regresará a Venezuela en mucho tiempo, entre otras cosas porque hoy por hoy al Gobierno de Estados Unidos le interesa que se mantenga una dictadura con la que ha terminado asociándose. When news broke that the FDA finally approved bemotrizinol — the first new sunscreen ingredient cleared in the United States in over two decades — many people in the health community celebrated it as the ultimate breakthrough in sun protection.  Since it's been used safely across Europe for over 20 years and underwent extensive safety testing, the immediate assumption is that any bemotrizinol-based sunscreen hitting shelves is an automatic win for clean living.  But that assumes the active ingredient is the only thing ending up on your skin. So the real issue isn't whether bemotrizinol itself is safe — it's how manufacturers formulate the actual products they sell to consumers. In this episode, I break down the science and safety profile behind bemotrizinol, explain why I ordered the first product available on Amazon the moment it launched, and reveal why I sent it right back without even opening the bottle. On paper, bemotrizinol is arguably the best chemical UV filter available. Unlike older chemical sunscreen ingredients that readily absorb through the skin into the bloodstream and act as endocrine disruptors, bemotrizinol has a large molecular weight that prevents it from crossing the skin-blood barrier.  Multiple clinical trials show zero detectable absorption even with repeated daily applications. It's exceptionally photostable, does not mimic estrogen or suppress testosterone, and offers broad-spectrum protection without leaving the thick white cast typical of physical mineral blockers. The problem begins when you look at the rest of the bottle. Curious to see what was currently available, I bought an SPF 50 sunscreen from BioPop Health marketed prominently around its bemotrizinol content. But turning the bottle over revealed a lineup of problematic companion ingredients: octinoxate (a known xenoestrogen banned in Hawaii and Palau for environmental and hormonal toxicity), a formaldehyde-releasing preservative, an iodine releaser restricted in Europe, propylparabens, and synthetic fragrances.  Combining an advanced, clean UV filter with legacy endocrine-disrupting chemicals defeats the entire purpose of seeking out a better ingredient. My personal approach to the sun hasn't changed: I focus on building a natural UV callus through gradual, year-round exposure, and I rely on shade, protective clothing, or clean mineral sunscreen from OneSkin when intense sun demands it.  Bemotrizinol is a genuinely promising ingredient, but until reputable brands release clean formulations free of hormone-disrupting fillers, grabbing the first bemotrizinol sunscreen you see on the market is a mistake. You got the email, you're confused, let's break it downSo Tailwind sent out an email about something called an MCP server, and if you read it and thought "what does that even mean," you're not alone. Let's break it down simply. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Think of it as a translator between AI assistants, like Claude or ChatGPT, and the software you already use. Before this, if you wanted an AI to help with a task, you'd copy information out of one app, paste it into your AI chat, get a response, then copy that back into the other app. Clunky. MCP removes that step. It lets your AI assistant talk directly to Tailwind and actually do things inside it. El asalto sobre Ceuta del 30 de julio que se tradujo en la entrada ilegal de entre 70.000 y 80.000 personas en la ciudad, es la mayor crisis fronteriza del último medio siglo y, sobre todo, una radiografía del método clásico de gobierno de Pedro Sánchez, el de supeditar cada resorte del Estado (diplomacia, seguridad y hasta la Corona) a su propia supervivencia, apoyándose en la propaganda y en la búsqueda constante de culpables. Para el Gobierno, la responsabilidad siempre es de otros, de la "ultraderecha", del machismo, del cambio climático, de Trump o de Netanyahu. Lo ocurrido en Ceuta nos muestra a un Gobierno que ha renunciado a gobernar para limitarse a perdurar. Como síntoma del desbarajuste con el que se está gestionando esto la ministra de Defensa, Margarita Robles, declaró el lunes en el parlamento que el CNI advirtió con dos días de antelación del asalto. Poco después el ministro del Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska dijo lo contrario. El fallo, por tanto, no fue de inteligencia sino de voluntad. La cadena de mando no funcionó y el Estado se encontró no con la guardia baja, sino sin guardia de ningún tipo. Sánchez, por su parte, ha preferido marcar un perfil muy bajo, se ha pasado el mes de vacaciones, primero en Lanzarote y luego en Andorra. Han tardado 26 días para comparecer en el Congreso (después de vetar al Senado que no controlan), casi un mes para reunir el Consejo de Seguridad Nacional y 22 días para nombrar un coordinador. El mando único que reclamó desde el primer día el presidente de Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, se lo negaron para autorizarlo tres semanas después. A eso habría que sumar el intento de instrumentalizar a Felipe VI, sugiriéndole que llamara al rey de Marruecos para agradecer su colaboración, algo que, en todo caso, corresponde al Gobierno y que sirve a la agenda marroquí de desestabilización institucional. De fondo una relación con Marruecos que es de puro servilismo desde que, hace cuatro años, el Gobierno cambió de postura sobre el Sáhara Occidental. A cambio no se ha obtenido nada, ni siquiera un eficaz control migratorio. Marruecos abre o cierra el grifo en función de sus intereses. Pero el Gobierno exculpa una y otra vez al Gobierno marroquí e incluso le elogia públicamente. Entretanto Ceuta sigue desbordada, hay miles de inmigrantes sin identificar, inseguridad, robos violaciones y ciudadanos que se sienten abandonados. El episodio encaja en el patrón habitual de convertir la política exterior en prolongación de la estrategia electoral, presentarse como némesis de Trump, negarse al gasto en Defensa y tejer alianzas con China al margen de Bruselas. Todo ello erosiona la confianza de los aliados europeos justo cuando España más los necesita. La razón última es un Gobierno en minoría y una legislatura muerta. Estos tres años registran un récord de improductividad legislativa, se ha abusado del decreto (168 desde 2018) y hay infinidad de leyes bloqueadas. Un presidente maniatado y deslegitimado dentro busca oxígeno fuera. Cuando no se puede gobernar lo más sensato democrático es devolver la palabra a los ciudadanos, pero por ahí Sánchez no quiere pasar porque eso le sacaría del poder. Las encuestas dan a Alternativa por Alemania (AfD) más del 40% de los votos, un resultado que les dejaría a las puertas de gobernar en solitario un parlamento regional por primera vez en su historia. Pero lo que se dirime allí no es tanto que pasará con ese Estado federado, sino si sigue valiendo una estrategia que la clase política alemana practica contra este partido de derecha identitaria desde hace años. Esa estrategia se conoce Brandmauer, el cortafuegos que compromete a todos los demás partidos a no pactar jamás con AfD ni gobiernos ni leyes. La CDU formalizó la doctrina en tiempos de Merkel, y, algo que nació como una línea roja para debilitar a AfD, se ha transformado en el principio organizador de la vida política alemana. Se descartan medidas que tendrían mayoría solo porque AfD las votaría, se les niega la vicepresidencia del Bundestag y a sus diputados se les aplica un aislamiento que roza en ocasiones la mala educación. La pregunta es si todo esto ha servido para algo. Medido por su objetivo último, el de hacer de AfD un partido menos atractivo para el votante, el cortafuegos ha fracasado. Hace un año Merz prometió reducir su voto a la mitad endureciendo el discurso migratorio y gobernando con eficacia. La inmigración irregular se ha desplomado, pero AfD ha duplicado su apoyo y ronda el 29% nacional, seis puntos por delante de los democristianos. Mientras en Italia, Países Bajos, Suecia o España la derecha identitaria se ha ido moderando tan pronto como se acercaba al poder, AfD ha recorrido el camino inverso, se ha radicalizado aún más mientras veía como su esperanza de voto aumentaba. El muro retira los incentivos para moderarse. El votante apoya a AfD sin riesgo sabiendo que nunca cargarán con el desgaste de gobernar. El aislamiento les regala su mejor argumento, la prueba de que existe un sistema de partidos cartelizado que se coaliga una y otra vez para dejarles fuera. Detrás del muro, entretanto, pueden prometer cualquier cosa sin rendir cuentas ni resolver sus propias contradicciones internas. Para la CDU el cortafuegos ha terminado convirtiéndose en una trampa. Les obliga a buscar socios solo a su izquierda, incluso en Die Linke, lo que enfurece a sus bases y les impide desplegar su programa. Cada transgresión, como la de Turingia en 2020 o la legislación migratoria les ha salido cara. La realidad es que luego, ya sobre el terreno, en muchos municipios y Länder del este, el muro es pura ficción porque son muchos los diputados y concejales que tiene AfD y hay que contar con ellos. Podrían condicionar el cortafuegos a que se moderasen, pero eso es precisamente lo que AfD no desea hacer ahora que la suerte le sonríe. Repensar las coaliciones y disputarle el terreno de las ideas parece lo más sensato, aunque nadie se atreve a intentarlo. El resultado es que trece años después de su fundación, AfD puede llegar a gobernar un Land a solas y sin haber cedido un milímetro.
