The Friends of Petersfield Hospital has existed since 1954, to support local services in Petersfield, mainly the Hospital, the Urgent Treatment Centre and two surgeries. They need new members and Committee members to help continue a great success. The Chair, John Granger, spoke to Mike Waddington about all they have done, with large amounts of money raised and spent to improve people's - patients and staff - experience. They are spending a substantial amount from a legacy just now, with some frustration about making it count! The Committee acts with caution so it is spent wisely on what's needed. It costs £5 a year to join. Contact John on john.granger004@btinternet.com or write to the Friends at Petersfield Hospital, Swan Street GU32 3LBSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to ‘Rowling Studies,' a Hogwarts Professor podcast! In the pilot episode, Nick Jeffery and John Granger discuss the aim of ‘Rowling Studies' before jumping into a conversation about Nick's theory that Charlotte Campbell did not commit suicide in Running Grave but was murdered. Their choice of methodology in exploring this speculative subject — ‘Lake' biographical exploration (Simon Peter did it!), ‘Shed' artistry (structure!), intertextual allusion (Romeo and Juliet!), and a look across the full canon of Rowling work — is precisely their point, but they make a pretty compelling case that Strike really blew it in his Epilogue interview with Emilia Crichton.Nick and John's full written discussions of the mysterious death of Charlotte Campbell can be read here and here. Let them know what you think of their first podcast and what you'd like to hear more about in their next episodes by dropping them a line in the comments spaces below or in the chat option at RowlingStudies.com! For additional notes and resources check out Douglas' website."The most successful book series in history: approximately 450 million copies sold internationally. Translated: 67 languages. The film series by Warner Bros.: $7.7 billion worldwide...." -- from magazine.pepperdine.edu, May 2013.Why Potter?Writers like C.S. Lewis (Narnia), J.R.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), and many others aim to awaken a sense of the spiritual in young readers. They also help secular thinkers discover their inner longing for the things of the spirit. This is a good thing.Protagonists in Harry Potter resist the dark world -- and the dark Lord -- just as we should. These books would be evil indeed if readers were urged to emulate the evil characters (Voldemort, Malfoy).Such novels help the relativist to believe in the good and evil, far better than an academic lecture or sermon ever could. An additional advantage is that these books get children reading. Moreover, if it's wrong for us to read books about dragons, sorcerers, and magic, then the book of Revelation would have to be excluded! On a related note, in the words (I think) of G. K. Chesterton, "Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed." My interpretation: Fantasy isn't an inherently bad thing -- unless the message takes away hope. It is yet another way to open people's minds to the truth.John Granger's intriguing essay:I found this article by John Granger (no relation to Hermione) so intriguing that I thought it would make for a great podcast. Some Christian voices have suggested that the Harry Potter stories about witchcraft, magic and mythical beasts provide a gateway into satanic practices. But JK Rowling completely disagrees and she was glad that readers were unaware of her Christian faith at the time the books were first published because they might then have guessed the ending of the final book. To discuss the Christian allegory and religious themes in the Harry Potter books, Ernie Rea is joined by Dr Beatrice Groves (Research Fellow and Tutor in English at Trinity College, Oxford), Vanessa Zoltan (co-host of the podcast 'Harry Potter and the Sacred Text') and by author and lecturer John Granger who has been described by Time Magazine as “The Dean of Harry Potter Scholars”. Producer: Helen Lee Assistant Producer: Barnaby Gordon Editor: Helen Grady
Last week all hell broke loose when YouTuber, Tasha K revealed that "relationship guru" Derrick Jaxn had been cheating on his wife (and continues to cheat on her). We saw Derrick and his wife go live on social media with her looking like an unwilling participant. There has been a lot of talk about the "high value" man and what he really wants in a woman, with young ladies humiliating themselves calling into Kevin Samuel's show for him to berate them and tear up the little self-esteem that they have. While Black men tried to tear down Russell Wilson and called him a SIMP for his interview in GQ Magazine and saying what scares him the most in life is losing his wife, Ciara. On this episode of Baldwin Was Right, mental health therapist, John Granger, II, and Dr. Carey Yazeed are discussing the misconceptions of the high-value man, going to therapy, and what a healthy relationship really looks like.

John Granger joins us to discuss why Harry Potter is still popular and what Christians can learn from it and about how the Potter series is thoroughly Christian

We give the listener a strong understanding of its history and lead into how the setting of 1926 America in J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts is centered around this subject. Even actor, Ezra Miller (Credence Barebones) and Director David Yates stated during interviews how Eugenics is a crucial subject in this setting of Fantastic Beasts. We hope you enjoy the show. In response to objections of Native American critics to Rowling’s failings there have been dismissals from some parts of Harry Potter fandom of these criticisms as “politically correct” and that “it’s just a story.” But Rowling has set herself up to being held to a higher standard, hasn’t she? Both in the research she did for the Hogwarts Saga and the tone and themes of those books? Rowling said in trailer to Fantastic Beasts that her stories are about those “set apart, stigmatized, or othered,” In a July 7, 2000 Entertainment Weekly interview, J.K. Rowling admits, “bigotry is probably the thing I detest most. All forms of intolerance, the whole idea of ‘that which is different from me is necessarily evil.’ Besides the size of her following, are these the kinds of comments and the hypocrisy of the Pottermore back stories the reasons fans are so surprised and disappointed? John Greene has said “Reading is always an act of empathy. It’s always an imagining of what it’s like to be someone else.” I suppose writing is, too. Has Rowling failed here in empathy, as well as research and understanding? We’ve invited two authorities on literature and First Nations traditions to talk with us and share their reading of these chapters: Dr. Amy H. Sturgis and Allison Mills. We hope you enjoy the show. Thank you for listening.

Once again, the MuggleNet Academia team of host Keith Hawk, managing editor for MuggleNet, and co-host John Granger, the Hogwarts Professor, brings our fans the latest in academic discussions within the Hogwarts saga. Science in Harry Potter? You’re kidding, right? Harry’s adventures are set in a magical world that is the antithesis of the Muggle realm’s dependence on science and engineering; magic by definition is the suspension of the laws of nature, and, as science is the exploration of those laws, the worlds should not meet, even in the potions laboratory of Professor Snape. Except in one field, namely, genetics. Witches and wizards, pure-blood, half-bloods, mudbloods, and even squibs are all subject to and products of the vagaries of chromosomes and genetic coding like all the rest of us and as this is no small part of the larger meaning of the Hogwarts Saga – the prejudice of purebloods to muggleborns – getting the genetics right is an important thing. Joining us today to talk about this is Dr. Eric Spana, an Assistant Professor in the Practice of Biology at Duke, who is an expert on the subject and Priyanka Nadar, founder of the Harry Potter Alliance chapter at Mary Baldwin University who has her Masters in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth. We hope you enjoy the show. Thank you for listening.

What are some of the legal ins and outs associated with all of these projects and who leads it all? Is it Rowling herself, Blair Partnerships, or is it the Harry Potter Global Franchise Division?
