Preaching for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Katie Davis-Crowder reflects on what it means to "go set the world on fire" today: "Looking around in 2025, many of us are struggling with how to be hope-filled truth-tellers in the face of profound human suffering and sin. We are witnesses today to the same rejection of covenant values about which Jeremiah warned Israel, the same rejection of God's love and justice for which Jesus gave his life...“Go set the world on fire” enables us to hold on to the hope of the Resurrection without denying the darkness of this Good Friday era in our country and world. Saturday, 16 August 2025 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. Matthew 12:29 “Or how, any, he can enter into the house of the strong and his goods seize, if not first he should bind the strong? And then, his house he will through-seize” (CG). In the previous verse, Jesus emphatically declared to the Pharisees that if He casts out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon them. Next, He questions them with the words, “Or how, any, he can enter into the house of the strong and his goods through-seize?” His question contains a new word, diarpazó. It is derived from dia, through, and harpazó, to seize. Thus, a literal, albeit clunky translation would be to through-seize. Some Greek texts use the word harpazó here and then diarpazó later in this verse. Jesus' question is concerning ability. There is a house owned by a strong man. If someone wants to rob this guy, how is he going to do it? Jesus provides the answer in the next clause, saying, “if not first he should bind the strong.” If the house of a strong man is to be plundered, the strong man has to first be bound. His strength must be dealt with, or it will be impossible for someone to rob him. Instead, he will get a good pounding and maybe a trip to the hospital. But if he is bound up, Jesus continues with, “And then, his house he will through-seize.” When that which interferes with one's plans to take an action is removed, the ability to take that action can then go forward. The point of Jesus' words is built upon what He has already said. This is introduced with the word translated as “or.” His first question in this regard was that if Satan casts out Satan, he divided himself. If so, then his kingdom cannot stand. Thus, the word “or” continues to refer to this concept. Speaking again of Satan, he calls him “the strong.” Some equate the house with the demon-possessed man. But this is too limited. Satan's house, in this questioning, is his place of rule. Thus, it is the Earth. This is the same as the “house of David” being the scope of David's rule. Satan has already been shown to have authority over the earth (Matthew 4:9). Therefore, the strong, meaning Satan, must be bound. From there, a person can then thoroughly plunder his house. How did God do this? He sent Jesus, born without sin, into the world. This is why Satan attempted to get Jesus to sin right at the start. But Jesus prevailed over his temptations. Remaining sinless, Jesus has bound Satan's authority. Therefore, Jesus can now thoroughly plunder his house. One step at a time, this will take place until, at the cross, he is entirely defeated. The sinless death of Jesus is the proverbial final nail in the coffin of Satan's ability to come against Him. In His death, the law is fulfilled. Therefore, the thing that stood against man and which Satan used against man, law, will no longer be an implement to cause saved humanity to fall again. Life application: The importance of the issue of law versus grace is not to be diminished. Law, a violation of it, is what brought sin into the world. Through sin, man died. That state of sin and death spread to all men. This is recorded by Paul in Romans 5. In Christ, the issue of law, and thus the issue of the imputation of sin, has been dealt with. This is why those who have come to Christ can adamantly avow that they have been saved. They have moved from a position of “under law” in Adam to a position of “in grace” in Jesus. It is also why salvation, once it has been granted, is eternal. It is true, we may ignorantly reimpose law on ourselves after being saved, but we are still in Christ. Therefore, sin is not being imputed, even for the blunder of placing oneself under law. However, in our state of salvation, we will receive no rewards for a life lived under law, even if we remain in grace. By our actions, we are excluding the chance to be rewarded for our conduct. On the other hand, those who never believe the gospel, but continue under law, cannot be saved. Only by rejecting self, accepting Christ's full atonement through His sacrificial death, which is proved by the resurrection, can someone be moved from “under law” to “in grace.” Once that move takes place, it should be the person's goal and desire to live for God, loving Him, and being obedient to His guidance as outlined under the New Covenant in order to receive rewards. This is not for being saved or continuing to be saved. That was dealt with in Jesus' work. It is for rewards and losses in our state of salvation. Let us learn the lesson of law and cling to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ always. Glorious God, how grateful we are for what You have done for us in Christ. The power of Satan was bound in our lives, and we have been plundered from His hand. We are now under a new Master who will continue to forever protect us from the power of the devil. As this is so, help us to stay away from evil and always strive for what is good and pleasing in Your sight. Amen.

Aaron and I met after I got to see a screening of his recent short animated film Snow Bear. I knew about Aaron's achievements from participating in some of the biggest animated movies of all time. I expected to talk about art, creativity, and expression, topics I love. We did, after first hitting on leadership, especially empathy. He started by sharing his growth as an animator and director at Disney. Soon enough we dove into talking about the overlap between leadership and things he loved about his career: directing, teamwork, self-expression, and empathy. We talked about being generous, what it takes to get the best out of a team, and how it feels when you do. We distinguished leadership from authority and how many people confuse them. You'll hear we both enjoyed the richness and depth of our exploration of similar passions from different directions. Plus you'll hear the back story Snow Bear that gives it its richness and depth.Aaron's web page Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This GraceNotes episode begins a series of messages on the assurance of salvation. This is such an important subject because so many people struggle with doubts about their salvation. In this episode, from GraceNotes no. 73, we will see that Free Grace theology is the only theological perspective that can give a believer full assurance of salvation. Three alternate views are explained. First, Reformed Calvinism believes that the elect can be sure of their salvation, but the problem is, no one can be sure they are one of the elect until they die having persevered in their faith and obedience to the end of their life. Another theology, Arminianism, holds that a Christian can be sure of salvation if they are living obediently. However, they cannot be sure of future salvation because thatw obedience is not guaranteed. A third perspective can come from both theologies. It is Lordship Salvation, which teaches that we are saved by committing ourselves to Jesus as our Master, which is proven by our genuine faith, turning from sins, and our full commitment. However, since it is impossible to gauge these things, full assurance becomes unattainable. Free Grace is the only view that gives full assurance of salvation because it depends on God's work and performance, not the believer's. This view is the most biblical and allows for peace and confidence in the Christian's life.#AssuranceofSalvation#FreeGraceTheology#LordshipSalvation#SimplybyGrace

On Aug. 7, Canton’s City Council gave the green light to an intergovernmental contract to create the land bank. Now, it’s up to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners, along with the councils in Holly Springs and Woodstock, to decide. No dates yet, but they’ll weigh in soon. So, what’s a land bank? Think of it as a way to breathe life into abandoned or blighted properties—turning eyesores into opportunities. The idea’s been in the works since late 2022, with Canton and Cherokee County leading the charge. If approved, a board of directors will oversee the land bank, with members appointed by the county, cities, and the Cherokee Office of Economic Development. They’ll work unpaid, but their mission? Big: housing, economic development, and revitalizing neglected spaces. Canton Mayor Bill Grant called it a “tool” to tackle housing and economic goals. And while the land bank won’t have eminent domain powers, it could still be a game-changer for the region. Bartow County already has one—maybe Cherokee’s next. STORY 2: University System of Georgia packs huge economic punch Georgia’s public colleges and universities are making waves—big ones. In fiscal 2024, the University System of Georgia (USG) pumped $23.1 billion into the state’s economy. That’s a 5.4% jump from last year. Here’s the breakdown: $15.2 billion came from direct spending—students, staff, and the 26 institutions themselves. The other $7.9 billion? That’s the ripple effect, money flowing into local businesses and communities. And for students? The payoff is huge. A bachelor’s degree from a USG school means, on average, $1.4 million more in lifetime earnings. Master’s grads? $1.7 million. Doctorates? Nearly $2.5 million. USG schools also created jobs—lots of them. About 32% were on campus, but the majority—68%—were off campus, fueling local economies. The studies, led by Jeff Humphreys of UGA’s Selig Center, show just how much these institutions matter—to students, to communities, to the entire state. STORY 3: Cherokee County schools show Milestones improvements The Cherokee County School District is celebrating some solid wins on the Georgia Milestones, with scores improving in most areas compared to last year and outperforming state averages for the 10th year running. Biggest gains? Math, science, and reading saw notable jumps, with highlights like an impressive 7.7% increase in eighth-grade science and a 7.4% boost in Algebra I. But it wasn’t all perfect—third-grade scores dipped slightly, and English Language Arts saw declines in a few grades, especially fifth (-8.3%). School Board Chair Janet Read Welch called the results “proof we’re on the right track,” crediting students, teachers, and parents for the progress. Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis echoed the optimism. The board will dive deeper into the data at its Aug. 21 meeting, with school-by-school results to follow online. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: HISTORY CHEROKEE STORY 4: Woodstock OKs construction contracts for two fire stations Woodstock is gearing up for two new fire stations, both set to open in 2026. On Aug. 11, the city council approved contracts with Spratlin Construction to build Fire Station 28 on Ridgewalk Parkway and another on Long Drive—both 11,000 square feet. Why now? Rising call volumes. But when the contractor offered savings for building two at once, the city jumped. The move saves $606,000 and avoids hiring extra firefighters, thanks to a clever staffing plan. Station 28 will cost $7.4 million, Long Drive $6.8 million. Both are major investments in public safety, with funding from SPLOST and impact fees. Currently, Woodstock has two fire stations: Station 10, built in 1996, and Station 14, the department’s 2001-built headquarters. The new additions will dramatically improve coverage and response times for the growing city. STORY 5: Cherokee County teacher wins award from Georgia PTA A big shoutout to Mill Creek Middle School’s Ann-Margaret Somers, who just snagged the Georgia PTA’s Birney Butler Outstanding Educator award for middle schools. Pretty amazing, right? This isn’t her first rodeo with recognition. Somers, an eighth-grade science teacher, has racked up honors like Georgia Science Teachers Association’s Middle School Teacher of the Year (2022-23) and Georgia STEM Scholar in 2022—an award only about two dozen teachers statewide receive. Oh, and in 2020? She was one of just 26 teachers nationwide named a Teacher Fellow by the Northrop Grumman Foundation and National Science Teaching Association. Somers joined CCSD in 2015, and clearly, she’s been crushing it ever since. And now here is Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on Food Apps Commercial: We’ll have closing comments after this. Ep. 157. In this episode, I sit down with retired psychotherapist Phyllis Leavitt to explore the urgent need for healing, in our personal lives and across America as a nation. Drawing from her decades of experience in trauma therapy, Phyllis reveals how personal healing is the foundation for national recovery, and how the same patterns of family dysfunction, abuse, and neglect we see in homes also play out not only in America but in nations worldwide. This conversation is about breaking cycles of abuse, reconnecting to yourself through what you love, and recognizing that every person has the power to impact their community.SegmentsIntroduction to Healing a NationThe Need for National TherapyUnderstanding Family Dynamics and Societal ImpactCollective Mental Health and Its SymptomsParallels Between Family Dysfunction and National CrisisPsychotherapy as a Tool for HealingReconnecting with the SelfThe Power of Individual ActionBioPhyllis Leavitt is a retired psychotherapist with over 34 years of experience working with children, families, couples, and individuals. Recent Ten Across Conversations episodes have considered how current changes in staffing, research, and responsibilities within federal agencies like FEMA and NOAA may affect disaster readiness and response at the local level. Many cities find themselves pressed to rethink how their own limited resources might secure the information and support necessary to address the growing risks they face. Collaborative regional networks are proving to be one way to achieve much greater returns on investments of local time and funds. The Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI) has become an outstanding example of this type of work. Formed in 2012, this innovative coalition of 105 mayors from cities along the main stem of the Mississippi has spearheaded programs in vital policy areas including clean water, sustainable economies, and climate resilience. Among their most interesting efforts from a Ten Across perspective is the pilot parametric insurance policy MRCTI is developing with global reinsurer Munich Re. When realized, this program would allow member cities to opt in to a customized, shared insurance pool that could rapidly fund local emergency response based on predefined environmental trigger events. Listen in as City of Gretna Mayor and MRCTI Louisiana Chair Belinda Constant joins MRCTI's executive director, Colin Wellenkamp, and Ten Across founder Duke Reiter to discuss how collaboration can help defend against more frequent and costly risks. The disciples of Jesus had more remarkable experiences than any other group of human beings. The sudden stilling of the storm on the Lake of Galilee was one event that particularly astonished them, but in today's 10th chapter of Mark we may have a sense of surprise at the cause behind the statement, “And his disciples were amazed at his words.” Jesus had just said, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God” [v.23,24]. His comment was the sequel to a situation when an earnest man ran up to him and said “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” [v.17] Jesus says, “You know the commandments and spells out most of them, and he responds, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth” [v.20] “And Jesus, looking at him, loved him.”But the love of Jesus did not blot out a fatal flaw in the man's character, Jesus said, “You lack one thing.” The Master who sees and knows all things told him to use his “great possessions” in helping the poor. “Sell all that you have” he was told – but that was not the end of Christ's words; but the man's thinking had collapsed over that request. The climax was a wonderful invitation, “come follow me… you will have treasure in heaven…” (v,21) But his mind could not jump the hurdle of his trust in wealth and “he went away sorrowful.” It was this event which caused Jesus to comment to his disciples about wealth and the great difficulties their possession cause for people who possess them. It amazed them!.This brings our minds to bear on today's readings in 1 Kings ch. 10 about Solomon's great wealth, that he “excelled all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.” [v.23] But in the end his riches distracted him “so Solomon did not wholly follow the LORD” [ch. 11 v.6] and the lack of wisdom of his son Rehoboam led to a great loss of them.(ch.12) Solomon became obsessed by possessions (see what he confesses in Ecclesiastes 1 & 2).And us? Our world is full of things to distract us, many of us – from Jesus' perspective are ‘wealthy' compared to previous generations. Jesus says to us, “Come follow me” If we have said, or decide to say, “Yes Lord” – let us do so – making sure there are no earthly possessions which are distracting us. Those who “follow me”, says Jesus “receive a hundredfold now in this lime … and in the age to come, eternal life.” [v.30]. This was the Apostle Paul's experience, he expresses his position very succinctly, “as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing, as poor, yet making many rich, as having nothing, yet possessing everything.” [2 Cor.6 v.10]

In today's economy, being the account manager who keeps clients happy and renewals steady simply isn't enough. Every budget line item is under the microscope. Customers want proof of ROI, so you have to show measurable value while driving growth. Reva Pellerin, the #1 enterprise account manager at Vidyard, puts it bluntly: "If you simply renew your book of business at 100%, that's not your target. Your target is to grow the customer base." The best account managers aren't just order-takers. They're hunters—finding new opportunities, building pipeline, and actively selling within their own territory. They expand their influence before competitors slip in. So, how do you trade in your passive approach for a hunter's mindset? The Three-Step Hunter's Playbook for Account Managers Top account managers share one thing in common: they work their accounts daily. They're intentional, consistent, and always looking for ways to help clients solve new problems. Here are three steps on how to adopt the same approach. 1. Prospect Your Own Accounts Prospecting isn't just for new business reps—your current accounts are the richest hunting grounds you have. You already have access and credibility; now you need to leverage them. Even a 30-minute weekly block can uncover new revenue. Map the organization: Use tools like LinkedIn Sales Navigator to map the client's company beyond your primary contacts. Look for new hires, promotions, or departures. A new executive often means new initiatives and budgets, creating a prime opening for you. Set alerts so you're the first to know. Search for adjacent pain points: Don't just focus on the problems your solution already solves. Talk to your contact and ask them about what other departments are struggling with. A simple question like, "I'm curious, what's the biggest challenge the operations team is facing this quarter?" can lead to an introduction to a new buyer and a new opportunity. Send targeted outreach: When you identify a new potential buyer, don't cold call them. Send a personalized email referencing your existing relationship with their colleague and the value you're already providing. For example: "Hi [New Contact Name], your colleague [Existing Contact Name] and I have been working together to help their team achieve [Specific Result]. I wanted to see if the challenges you're facing in [Their Department] are similar, as we might be able to help." 2. Master the Expansion Sale Expansion sales aren't about pushing more products—they're about solving more of your customers' problems. The best account managers think like consultants: they uncover needs, tailor solutions, and connect them to strategic objectives. Ask penetrating questions: Instead of asking, "Do you need more licenses?" try asking questions that reveal a need. For example: "I know you're focused on improving efficiency. Where are your biggest bottlenecks, and what's the cost of those bottlenecks?" “What's the next big initiative you're planning?” “What are you under the most pressure to deliver this quarter?” Link to measurable outcomes. If your solution saves time, estimate the cost savings. If it improves output, quantify the gain. Position the expansion as risk reduction. Many leaders will spend to avoid failure before they'll spend to chase success. Show how the additional product or service reduces operational risk, customer churn, or missed revenue. Collaborate with your champions. Work with your existing advocates inside the account to co-create the expansion pitch. They know how decisions get made internally, and they can help you frame the opportunity in language that resonates with leadership. 3. Leverage Your Success for Referrals Referrals are one of the most underused growth levers in account management. The key is asking at the right time—after you've delivered a clear, measurable win. Earn the right first. Advocacy follows impact.
In this episode of the HVAC Know It All Podcast, host Gary McCreadie chats with John Zimmerman, Founder & CEO of Harvest Integrated, to kick off a two-part conversation about the unique challenges of HVAC systems in the cannabis industry. John, who has a strong background in data center cooling, brings valuable expertise to the table, now applied to creating optimal environments for indoor grow operations. At Harvest Integrated, John and his team provide “climate as a service,” helping cannabis growers with reliable and efficient HVAC systems, tailored to their specific needs. The discussion in part one focuses on the complexities of maintaining the perfect environment for plant growth. John explains how HVAC requirements for grow rooms are similar to those in data centers but with added challenges, like the high humidity produced by the plants. He walks Gary through the different stages of plant growth, including vegetative, flowering, and drying, and how each requires specific adjustments to temperature and humidity control. He also highlights the importance of redundancy in these systems to prevent costly downtime and potential crop loss. John shares how Harvest Integrated's business model offers a comprehensive service to growers, from designing and installing systems to maintaining and repairing them over time. The company's unique approach ensures that growers have the support they need without the typical issues of system failures and lack of proper service.
