In this weeks episode of "Pushing the Limits" I interview one of my idols in the world of health optimisation medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and cellular health Dr Scott Sherr, a repeat guest to the show. In this episode we go deep into the benefits of: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, what it does, the pathways it affects from: Stem cell production to inflammation downregulation to lymphatic support to angiogenesis We discuss the health issues this powerful therapy can benefit  We discuss protocols, the different types of chambers and pressures and how to build a foundational health protocol around the person's treatment.  We also do a deep dive into one of my favorite research subjects at the moment - Methylene Blue and it's myriad of effects in the body and how it may help support:  energy production by bypassing the first two complexes in the electron transport chain in the mitochondria what ailments it may help with from alzheimers and cognitive declines to TBI to UTI's to depression to athletic performance to carbon monoxide poisoning, mitochondrial dysfunction to malaria and it's use as the world's first antibiotic and more   We dive into it's long history and where the current science stands on this exciting compound.  We look at how it has a biphasic response curve and how it works as both an antioxidant and pro oxidant and why pharmaceutical grade is crucial. Then we dive into the GABA system and how it affects recovery and sleep and formulations that support this system besides taking actual GABA that alone doesn't cross into the blood brain barrier.  We also discuss Dr Scott's and Dr Ted Achacoso's non profit educational arm https://homehope.org/ where doctors and practitioners can advance their learning in the holobiont. They provide the framework for doctors and health care practitioners to learn how to optimize their clients' health, rather than treat disease. Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) was founded in the Philippines by Dr. Theodore Achacoso after realizing that illness medicine, in which he is trained and excels as an interventional neuroradiologist and pharmacologist, was reactive, interventional, and could benefit from an entirely different approach: one that optimized health rather than treated disease. Over several years, he became an expert in the intricacies and power of metabolomic, gut, and hormone optimization, along with the additional pillars of what became HOMe.  How to find Dr Scott and his work  You can visit Dr Scott's hyperbaric oxygen therapy clinics at  https://www.hyperbaricmedicalsolutions.com Visit his supplement company Troscriptions where they have formulations including methylene Blue among others here You can use the code LISA  His hyperbaric educational company One Base Health here Transcription products from Dr Scotts company are not available for New Zealanders unfortunately however if you are interested in getting methylene Blue please reach out to us directly at support@lisatamati.com   BIO  Dr. Scott Sherr is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician Certified to Practice Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) and a specialist in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).  He graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA as an undergraduate and Magna Cum Laude with Alpha Omega Alpha distinction from the University of Maryland Medical School. Back on the show is the amazing Dr Ted Achacoso. The genius..Dr Ted as he is affectionately known as, is an incredible human being, who I was immediately fascinated by, for reasons not only that he has an incredible IQ, but because of his beliefs, his amazing way of being a fearless leader and mentor to all that he comes in contact with, but also for his humour and sense of fun and lightheartedness. I'm very lucky to be able to work with Dr Ted as his CEO of HOMeHOPe here in Australia, a non for profit organisation. We chat - - The History of HOMeHOPe - creating a standard of care in health, not disease. - Framework of biohacking and difference of biohacking - Functional medicine difference take out the points of confusion - Speciality on its own. - What is HOMe/ HOPe - the speciality on its own and mini courses - Why this way of practicing medicine? - Complete health care difference - salutongenesis, multi-omics clinical specialty - Protocols and combination of HOMeHOPe with other health technologies. - Troscriptions - How different Troscriptions are from up and coming psychedelic therapies. Pioneered in the Philippines over a decade ago, Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe, for physicians) and Health Optimization Practice (HOPe, for non-physician health care practitioners) is the first and only multi-omics clinical specialty that defines and delivers the standard of care in health, not disease. A self-paced online course on “Essential Health Optimization Medicine and Practice.” This has just been completed with seven modules (the Seven Pillars of HOMe/HOPe --- Clinical Metabolomics, Bioenergetics (Mitochondria), Gut-Immune System (Microbiota), Clinical Exposomics, Epigenetics, Chronobiology, and Evolutionary Medicine), along with the accompanying certification pathways and CME credits. A global effort is being made by Health Optimization Medicine and Practice Association (a US-based, tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization) to train physicians and non-physician health care providers in this new clinical framework. It is during the one-on-one virtual preceptorships that local clinical metabolomics lab options and vetted supplement sources are discussed, as their availability are country-dependent. Many functional and integrative clinicians practice medicine through the construct of finding the root cause of chronic complaints and disease management. What if there was a framework in place to help clinicians navigate a focus on health optimization? Dr. Scott Sherr has the answer. Along with Dr. Ted Achacoso, he founded Health Optimization Medicine and Practice (HOMe/HOPe), a non-profit education company offering CME accredited certification and ongoing educational modules to help clinicians detect and correct root causes of health – not disease. I’m here with Dr. Jennifer Tippett, a licensed clinical psychologist in the Denver Metro area. Dr. Tippett has been working with patients with mental illness and substance misuse for a decade. She’s the director of the Substance Use Disorder specialty at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology, where she teaches the sequence of graduate-level courses about the neurobiology of trauma, addiction, and behavioral addictions. She also has a small private practice where she provides psychedelic integration and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. I wanted to have her on because these things have been helpful to me in my own life, and because we’re likely going to see the clinical legalization of substances in the United States in the next couple of years. I think education around this topic ahead of time is vitally important, as it can be easily misunderstood or even misused. Episode Highlights With Dr. Jennifer Tippett The astounding research on certain therapies for PTSD and severe trauma How these therapies can have a lasting effect without continued use The downsides of SSRIs and what to be aware of How trauma lives in the body and how this gives us a window to address it The role of somatic therapies in trauma processing How ACE (adverse childhood experiences) play a role in the trauma response Clinical research on ketamine and how it is being used in patients with depression The vital importance of integration for processing any type of trauma or trauma therapy Why couples are each other's perfect triggers and how to reframe couple disagreements Complementary and alternative therapies that work with these types of therapy The surprising roots of the stigma around psychedelics Important safety and risk information Problems and barriers with access to these therapies for people who need them most What the future holds for clinical use of psychedelics and ketamines And more! Plant medicines are powerful tools in our healing journey. Despite being largely overlooked by modern medicine, these natural elixirs offer an opportunity for both physical and spiritual expansion, and today's guest, Dr. Ted Achacoso, is here to share his insights on the topic. Dr. Ted is incredibly accomplished, having trained in pharmacology, neurology, and interventional endocrinology. Currently, he has a tri-continental practice in anti-ageing and nutritional medicine. In this episode, Dr. Ted shares his ideas about health with us. He implores us to move past our rigid understanding of health and disease and to understand our well-being as a spectrum instead. As Dr. Ted highlights, we are not simply a reflection of our environment; we are our environment. Many of us view ourselves as separate from the world around us because of our ego, and plant medicine is one of the greatest ways to go beyond it and grow our consciousness.Dr. Ted talks about the mind-expanding molecules in plant medicines, why getting to the other side of control is the greatest gift of the journey. We round the show off by learning more about how we can become more aware as species as well as the projects Dr. Ted has in the pipeline.I'd love to know your thoughts and experiences - join the conversation on my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/paleochefpeteevans.      For more episodes of Evolve, find us on iTunes at https://apple.co/2NpsIba, Spotify at https://spoti.fi/2NpSiN0, Acast at https://play./s/pete-evans, click the link on https://peteevans.com, or just look up "Evolve" in your favourite podcast app.    I'd love to spread the knowledge in these podcasts far and wide.
