Guest: Ruschelle Khanna - Family business consultant, psychotherapist, and author of "Inherited Trauma and Family Wealth"Key Timestamps & Ideas3:00-5:30 - Growing Up in Coal Country Despite feeling abundant as a child, underlying financial anxiety from this environment shaped her early money scripts and relationship with wealth.5:30-8:00 - The Origins of Inherited Trauma WorkThree catalysts led to her book: inheriting a traumatic memory from her mother, experiencing Lyme disease, and 20 years of NYC client work. 8:00-12:00 - The Prison MetaphorBoth poverty and wealth can create psychological prisons. 12:00-15:30 - Practical Healing StrategiesFamily governance serves as therapeutic tool, along with genealogy research and getting families talking. 15:30-20:00 - Transparency vs. SecrecyShe advocates transparency about family wealth with next generation, explaining how secrecy robs children of pride in family legacy. 20:00-25:00 - Multi-Generational DynamicsLonger lifespans create more generations alive simultaneously. Value differences between generations are natural. Documenting family legacy helps members understand the "unique collection of coincidences" that created family wealth.25:00-30:00 - The Five Liabilities of Family TeamsFamilies fall into cycles of chaos, conflict avoidance, people pleasing, procrastination, and abandonment. Conflict in wealthy families isn't "about the money" but about belonging and unspoken pain, with underlying trauma as the root cause.30:00-35:00 - Money as Intimate EnergyMoney sits at our "root chakra" with sexuality and intimacy. The pudendal nerve means "the place to be ashamed of" in Latin, explaining why people discuss trauma but avoid talking about money in therapy.35:00-40:00 - Success vs. Failure in Wealth TransitionSuccess requires strong relational, financial, and operational systems. Even "abandonment" can resolve energetically over generations, though blended families face increased emotional complexity and trust issues.40:00-45:00 - Self-Worth and Sibling DisparitiesThe pillar metaphor describes never feeling "less than" by cultivating both inherent worth ("you're lovable because you exist") and earned worth. Wealth disparities between siblings can destroy family relationships.45:00-50:00 - Addressing Compulsive BehaviorsCompulsive spending functions as addiction: "what is the pain you're running from?" Imposter syndrome and Dunning-Kruger effect represent two sides of worth issues, while "inversion of trust" means feeling safer with strangers than family.50:00-55:00 - Individual Change Creates Systemic HealingWorking on inherited trauma individually heals entire family systems. Using the "fascia" metaphor, removing one knot improves the whole system. Success means creating lasting change while learning personally.Podcast Program – Disclosure StatementBlue Infinitas Capital, LLC is a registered investment adviser and the opinions expressed by the Firm's employees and podcast guests on this show are their own and do not reflect the opinions of Blue Infinitas Capital, LLC. All statements and opinions expressed are based upon information considered reliable although it should not be relied upon as such. Business Succession: Inherited Trauma and Family Wealth - Generational Wealth and Financial Successhttp://www.ValuationPodcast.com  https://www.valuationmediation.com  Welcome to ValuationPodcast.com, where we explore the intricate world of business valuation and the complex dynamics of family wealth. I'm Melissa Gragg, a seasoned valuation expert and divorce financial mediator from St. Louis, Missouri. Today, we delve into the profound topic of inherited trauma and its influence on family wealth with special guest Ruschelle Khanna. Ruschelle, an esteemed family advisor, mediator, and therapist, brings her expertise and her new book, "Inherited Trauma and Family Wealth," to the table, discussing how deep-seated family issues can affect financial security and business succession.Questions Discussed: Can you explain what inherited trauma is and how it specifically impacts financial behaviors? What is the impact of inherited trauma / generational patterns on our financial well-being?What is one immediate step someone can take today to break free from generational financial trauma? How can people create a new financial legacy without guilt or fear of repeating past mistakes? If you could give one piece of advice to someone trying to rewrite their financial story, what would it be?Key Podcast Takeaways:Understanding Inherited Trauma: Inherited trauma, as Ruschelle explains, isn't just about the psychological patterns passed down through generations; it also includes actual genetic memories and traumas that manifest in family behaviors and personal fears that seem unlinked to one's own experiences. The Impact on Financial Behavior: Inherited trauma can significantly influence financial decisions and behaviors. Ruschelle discusses how these traumas can lead to profound fears and anxieties about money, which may not always be conscious but deeply affect how individuals and families manage their wealth.Identifying Inherited Trauma: Identifying whether a fear or behavior is a result of inherited trauma can be tricky. Ruschelle suggests looking at the age when certain fears manifest—often mirroring the age of a past family trauma—as a clue to their origins.Approaching Financial Wellbeing: Ruschelle outlines practical steps for addressing inherited financial traumas, such as understanding the specific ways trauma affects one's sense of security, emotional connection to money, and ability to make sound financial decisions.Therapeutic Solutions and Family Governance: Ruschelle advocates for both traditional therapeutic approaches and practical measures like setting up strong family governance structures to manage and mitigate the effects of inherited trauma on family wealth and business operations.Connect with Ruschelle: https://www.ruschellekhanna.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruschelle-khanna-lifestyle-for-legacy/Buy Ruschelle's book here:https://www.lifestyleforlegacy.com/bookConnect with Melissa:Melissa Gragg  CVA, MAFFExpert testimony for financial and valuation issues  Bridge Valuation Partners, LLC  melissa@bridgevaluation.com  http://www.BridgeValuation.com  http://www.ValuationPodcast.com  http://www.MediatorPodcast.com  https://www.valuationmediation.com  https://www.thedivorceallies.com/Cell: (314) 541-8163Support the show

In her captivating book, I Hate You, Mary Sullivan: A Memoir of Inherited Trauma, author Barbara J. Williams offers a vivid depiction of her evolving relationship with her grandmother, Mary Sullivan, and explores the process by which inherited trauma can be passed down from one generation to another.   Williams was 22 when Sullivan died in a New Jersey nursing home, far from her family and the town she'd settled in as an immigrant. Williams felt one emotion: relief. She'd never liked the mean, critical woman she called Nana. More than 50 years later, that death suddenly and inexplicably began to haunt Williams, who felt compelled to heal their relationship and learn more about the stoic, tight-lipped Nana who never discussed her past. Who was she? What was her life like in Ireland and then in a strange new country? Why did she make the choices she made? In I Hate You, Mary Sullivan, Williams begins by retracing Nana's footsteps in Oldcastle, County Meath, Ireland, and learns that her ancestors, the Kenny family, were farm laborers. For the first time, Williams imagines the poverty and hardship her grandmother likely endured as a child and young woman. When the second famine of 1879 struck, Nana was only 2 years old. Williams wonders how hunger may have affected her grandmother. She also visualizes how the threats of forceful evictions and violent uprisings might have traumatized the young Mary Sullivan. As Williams walks the land Nana walked and learns the cold hard historical facts, she feels compassion for the woman she once hated. But that's not all. Williams, a retired psychiatric nurse and researcher, infuses her narrative with scientific insight. Using her story, she shows how unearthing and understanding the denied stories of the past, Irish or not, can resolve painful inherited emotional patterns. In Nana's narrative, for example, Williams finds keys to her own otherwise inexplicable adolescent anxiety and intense fear of home invasion and death by enemy bombing. When she learns that trauma may be transmitted epigenetically, she thinks, “That fits!” Connect with Dr. Dravon James Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

And what that means is that there's no separate self. When you begin to see that, you'll see through the imagination. Wetiko makes us think that we exist in a way that we don't. It makes us think that we exist as a reference point in space and time, as a separate self, and as soon as we see ourselves in that way, we then think the world is objective, separate from us." - Paul Levy

And she gives us some actionable things we can do at home for ourselves and our children to rev our own creative engines. One of my favourite moments though, comes towards the end  when I ask her about the possibility of the opposite of inheriting generational trauma existing. We know we can inherit trauma but can we inherit magical wonderful things too? We shared a really tender moment - one where I felt like she was talking to ALL of us. It's beautiful, uplifting and inspiring.  I think you'll be really moved by it. What Dr. Cheryl Arutt & I talk about-What creativity IS from a brain science perspective. -What is really going on inside our psychology when people say “I'm not creative”-Why processing trauma including intergenerational trauma, and converting it to post traumatic growth is so important (and is absolutely possible)-The link between education and creativity. Are we fostering creativity and creating thinking enough in the school system? And if we are seeing that our children are not getting as much focus on creativity in school what can we do at home? -What is the one question you can ask yourself (or your kids) to kick start your creativity (what is another way to do that/look at that/solve that)-How the “we only use 10% of our brains” thing is a myth-How to use creativity to safely access our traumas -What is EMDR (eye movement and desensitization and reprocessing therapy how it was discovered and how creative people can use it to heal trauma and access even more of their innate creativity-Post traumatic growth - learning to integrate and recognize all the ways you grew as a person as a result of living through your trauma-What she thinks creativity is trying to do - from a brain science perspectiveAbout Dr. Cheryl AruttDr. Cheryl Arutt is an accomplished clinical and forensic psychologist based in Beverly Hills, CA whose amalgamation of rigorous training and experience allows her to engage with people from a place of deep insight and empathy. In Tracey's words: I've been on a healing journey for 25 years and it was just last year that the final puzzle piece fell into place. As someone who has been in and out of therapy for over 2 decades, I was shocked by the realization that my whole life, my whole adult self and all my relationships, had been impacted by the reality of my childhood. Most of us believe that we cannot have experienced trauma if our childhood doesn't tick traditional boxes: sexual or physical abuse, poverty, incarcerated parent. But I can tell you, for sure, that waking up to the toll my conditioning took on me and thereby the people I love most has changed everything. And, my daughter was diagnosed with an eating disorder and depression when she was thirteen. She's 25 now and fully supports me in talking about our experiences. Her mental health diagnoses, along with my own inheritance, is the subject of my forthcoming memoir: Bloodlines: A Memoir of Harm and Healing. I'm passionate about dispelling the myths around mental illness, mental health, and healing. Accepting the fact that I could not control the trajectory of my daughter's illness was extremely painful, but it was necessary for me to wake up to the need for me to do my own work. The means to the end of supporting and loving her the healthiest ways I could. See more about my book here: https://traceyyokascreates.com/bloodlines-a-memoir/ This book shows you how I healed inherited trauma. In turn, I was empowered and transformed my relationships most beautifully.   Social Media Tracey Yokas creates stuff. When she isn't writing about mental health and wellness, she can be found playing with paint, glitter, and glue. She shares about her family's journey with mental illness so others will know they are not alone. She is dedicated to supporting women in the journey towards authenticity, and fulfills her mission by creating safe spaces where art, words, and vulnerability meet in dynamic community. In this episode, we discuss intergenerational trauma. This inherited trauma can make deep imprints on your overall well-being. The trauma responses you experience today can sometimes be rooted in past experiences you may not have been present for originally. Maybe you weren't abused growing up, but your parents or grandparents were. Maybe you didn't face discrimination or live through a war, but your great-grandparents did. Factors such as these can have negative effects on familial relationships and impact how your children navigate life. Intergenerational trauma, also called historical trauma, is defined as cumulative emotional and psychological wounding over the lifespan and across generations, emanating from massive group trauma experiences. The brutal October 7th attacks by Hamas inside of Israel, and the IDF's seemingly relentless assault on Gaza have captured the world's attention for the past six months. In this episode, we attempt to understand the psychological state that's developed over generations on both sides, which enables people to commit such violent acts. Our guest is Lydia Wilson, a research fellow at Oxford's Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict, a visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge's Department of Middle Eastern Studies, and the Culture Editor at New Lines Magazine. Lydia has spent a good part of her career studying radicalization and the long-term psychological impact of violence on a population level.   LEARN MOREArticles by Lydia WilsonThe Psychology of the Intractable Israel-Palestine Conflict, New Lines Magazine, October 2023Jordan's Fragile Balancing Act, New Lines Magazine, December 2023What I Discovered From Interviewing Imprisoned ISIS Fighters, The Nation, October 2015Follow Lydia Wilson on X: @lsmwilson ABOUT THE SHOWMaking Peace Visible is a project of War Stories Peace Stories. Our ancestors pass down more than physical traits or family stories. We can also inherit traumatic experiences that can impact us in ways we are not even conscious of. In this episode, we discuss generational trauma and how to turn challenging experiences in our family's history into opportunities for deep personal growth.“It is very important to look back on the challenges that come to us from our generational trauma. It's also very important to look at the positive things that are within us because of our ancestors and use them as an inspiration for what we can do with our lives.” – Michael Berg

We are embodied reflections of each other. And what that means is that there's no separate self. When you begin to see that, you'll see through the imagination. Wetiko makes us think that we exist in a way that we don't. It makes us think that we exist as a reference point in space and time, as a separate self, and as soon as we see ourselves in that way, we then think the world is objective, separate from us. - Paul Levy Live Life Well from Sunrise to Sunset Save 20% with code "WELLNESSFORCE" on everyone's favorite Superfoods brand, ORGANIFI, including their Sunrise to Sunset Bundle and their Women's Power Stack that includes HARMONY + GLOW for true hormonal balance and great health radiating through your beautiful skin. How is the Wetiko mind virus governing our lives and the world, and what is the most efficient remedy to awaken from the collective dream? Join Paul and Josh as they dive deep into Wetiko. Learn how to recognize Wetiko, what to do to free yourself from it, and how it impacts society and manifests in our day-to-day lives.   Listen To This Special Replay of Episode 503 As Paul Levy Uncovers: [2:45] Poisoning Of The Human Evolution Awaken In The Dream With Paul Levy Wetiko: Healing the Mind-Virus That Plagues Our World by Paul Levy Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil by Paul Levy 405 Tim Corcoran | Vision Quest: How To Find Your Place In The Ecology of Life, Purpose Mountain & Spiritual Courage Paul Chek The mind virus: Why the origin of all evil comes from our psyche. 345 Zach Bush MD: Humanity, Consciousness & COVID19 How we get distracted by searching for problems outside of ourselves. Why most spiritual traditions point to the Wetiko mind virus. Carl Jung Why Josh finds it fascinating that the word, “evolution” contains the word, “love.” The reason why we as a society commit collective suicide. Why the mind virus is a source of the greatest evil and how we became its instrument. What it means that the medicine is encoded inside the mind virus.   [9:15] Wetiko Manifestation In Our Everyday Lives What the Wetiko is trying to reveal and why we need to recognize what it's showing us. Kabbalah Kahuna shamanism Christian mysticism How Paul discovered his childhood trauma and the suffering caused by his father wound. How the process of observing his own mind for several years and meditating made him realize that we are having a collective dream. Why his awakening was mistaken for a mental illness. Why he identifies with the shamanic archetype. His realization that the evil he received from his father was manifesting through the system in the psychiatric institution. What happens when an evil cannibalistic spirit takes over people's minds. Trans-personal energy: Higher-dimensional energy that can possess us and keep us “asleep.” How groups of people with power unwillingly become the instrument of trans-personal energy.   [16:15] Our True, Creative Nature VS Collective Psychosis His practice to become familiar with his true nature to avoid being touched by evil. What true nature is according to Paul and how it helps us with Wetiko. Paul explains why nobody is immune to Wetiko. Why a negative father is an archetype that exists in the collective unconscious, and how it relates to domination and objectification of Mother Nature. The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts Why Josh thinks forcing a meaning of something can make us fall into spiritual bypassing. The reason Paul wrote the book about Wetiko and had to split it into two books. How seeing Wetiko takes away its power and empowers yourself.   [23:40] Fighting Wetiko With Our Consciousness Why the essence of the Medicine Buddha is an inspiration to Paul, and the story behind his tapestry. Wetiko in sacred texts: Why was it edited out of the Bible? How Wetiko offers us a false identity and how it manipulates us through it unless we are able to identify our true self. Uncovering how the Bible indirectly describes Wetiko as a blindness of the mind correlated to the coldness of the heart. Why the revelation of quantum physics is a medicine for Wetiko. What it means that we are the solution and we possess the creative power to heal ourselves from the mind virus. Paul explains a Tibetan Buddhist tradition: Terma (hidden treasure). How quantum physics is a modern-day analog to the Terma: Discovering there is no such thing as an objective world. Why the belief that we are passive witnesses and the world is objective gives power to Wetiko. How dreams become a reflection of our minds, reinforce our viewpoints, and hypnotize ourselves   [36:00] The Collective Dream Of Separate Selves Josh explains why it's impossible to go back to being unconscious after you start your healing journey. What the Bleep Do We Know!? The importance of recognizing that we are in a collectively shared dream. Why the characters in our dreams are aspects of ourselves. There is no separate self: We are embodied reflections of each other. Why seeing ourselves as separate from the world keeps us disconnected from our true nature. What it means that we are unique points of consciousness expressing itself from a source according to Josh.   [40:20] Becoming The Observer + Changing The Past Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality by Paul Levy Why according to quantum physics there is only the present moment, and how we can access our power through it. What it means that the past isn't finished: We can observe the past in this moment and change it through our creative imagination to heal. How we express the atemporal part of us that is conscious in the linear timeline. Unnatural time frequency and mind distortion: How our relation to time causes insanity. Why we put too much emphasis and give meaning to time.   [44:20] Awakening From The Wetiko Dream God is dark and light, everything and nothing, love, and hate. Why our power lies in how we interpret our experience according to Paul. How quantum physics proves to us that we are creating our experience of the world and ourselves moment by moment. The universe is malleable and mutable just like our experiences and who we are. The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living by Dalai Lama Why the more you express compassion, the more compassion there is to share. How helping others awaken actually helps us because we are not separate. Bodhisattva: Being in the process of awakening. How awakening can also become contagious that can affect the world in a positive way. The secret power of dreaming: What would happen if we and all characters in our dreams would awaken. Josh sings a song that reminds him of what Paul was talking about.   [51:15] The Self-Induced Mind Blindness What physically impossible things happened to Paul when he started awakening. He tells a story about how he helped a blind woman see again with his words, and how it made him realize he was not insane but awakening. 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle by Mark Wolynn Why the Bible says that mindblindness is self-induced. The essence of Paul's work: Trying to help people open their eyes and see Wetiko. What happens when you recognize the correlation between the outer world and your inner state, and finally recognize the dream.   [57:55] The Source Of Our Suffering A text by Jesus Christ that was edited out from the Bible: “I am a mirror to those that perceive me.” Why the mirror is a symbol of true nature in Buddhism. How identifying ourselves with our unhealed wounds feeds the Wetiko. How Buddha discovered that the source of our suffering is clinging. What it means that there is no Wetiko outside of us and the fear of Wetiko is actually Wetiko.   [01:01:55] The Inner & The Outer Manifestation Of Wetiko 344 Leslie Manookian | COVID19 – The Truth About Flattening The Curve Josh explains collective madness according to Carl Jung. Why Paul believes that Jung used the word ‘totalitarian psychosis' to describe Wetiko. The inner and the outer reflection of Wetiko: How it controls our mind like totalitarianism controls the world. How we can envision who we are and our world through ideas. Why the greatest tyrants in history were scared of new ideas. How our creative power potentiates when we get in phase with each other and become of service to the whole. Paul reveals why quantum physicists lose their job when they try to tell the truth about consciousness. The new symbolic idea: We can change the collective dream we're having.   [01:06:55] How Our Trauma Projects In The World Why the mirror etymologically means a holder of the shadow. Shadow projecting: Not owning our own darkness makes us project it out and embody it. How the evil outside of us is a reflection of ourselves, and why recognizing this brings us closer to our light and goodness. Josh shares his experience with his fear of being dominated. How Paul's father tried to annihilate his light when he saw him stepping into his light because that's what he was doing to himself. The Murder of Christ: The Emotional Plague of Mankind by Wilhelm Reich Unpacking how we are still murdering the Christ; the light force within us, by not being awake. How abuse trauma shows us that we are abusing ourselves.   [01:13:15] The Antidote For Wetiko 481 Scott Jackson | Rewire Yourself: How To Create A Life You Love With Freedom From Subconscious Sabotage Symbols are the language of dreams and the antonym to ‘diabolic': Recognizing the dream-like nature is the antidote for the diabolic energy of Wetiko. How language creates our experience according to Paul. What happens to all the potentialities that don't manifest in the world. Why there is always the possibility of creating a different reality according to quantum physics. Hundredth monkey effect Why it's important to envision ourselves awakening. What wellbeing means to Paul: Connecting with our creative agency and our true nature.   Power Quotes From The Show The World Is A Reflection Of Our Inner World "What's happening externally in the world is reflecting what's happening in the mind, and vice versa. With Wetiko, we all have a potential, when all of a sudden it becomes activated, it will set up this shadow government within our mind. It will subsume the healthy parts of the psyche into its service. It will hijack the psyche. It will colonize our mind. It will dictate to the ego in such a way that we then become in service to it, to the point that we become possessed, we become taken over, we become instruments of our own enslavement. That's exactly what's happening in the world with totalitarianism." - Paul Levy   The Subjective Observation Of The World "There is no such thing as an objective world. That's just an idea in our head that the active observation of the world actually influences the world we're observing. That's the description of a dream. What that means is that the active observation is creative. That's the portal into this immense vast creative power that each one of us has, each and every moment in creating our experience." - Paul Levy   What Feeds The Wetiko Virus "There is no Wetiko outside of us. If people hear about a mind virus and feel afraid, that feeling afraid, that is Wetiko. There's nothing to feel afraid of because there is nothing there. But if we cling to it and give it with reality, then we're colluding with our own victimization, then we're complicit with evil, then we're investing in the reality of Wetiko, and there's nobody else to blame but ourselves." - Paul Levy   Links From Today's Show  Awaken In The Dream With Paul Levy Wetiko: Healing the Mind-Virus That Plagues Our World by Paul Levy Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil by Paul Levy 405 Tim Corcoran | Vision Quest: How To Find Your Place In The Ecology of Life, Purpose Mountain & Spiritual Courage Paul Chek 345 Zach Bush MD: Humanity, Consciousness & COVID19 Carl Jung Kabbalah Kahuna shamanism Christian mysticism The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts What the Bleep Do We Know!? How do we have it all? That can only happen when you start letting go of compromises. There's so much of this cultural narrative that these compromises are okay. No! I want to be in a great shape. I want to earn good money. I want to have loving relationships. I want to do incredible work that I love. Why can't I? Who's saying that I can't? When I first started no one was saying, "I can't." How keeping death close makes us show up best in the world. We will be forgotten in the future which is a good thing. Power Quotes From The Show What Do You Do on Daily Basis to Achieve Your Dreams? "Show me your calendar. I want to see what you do on a daily basis because that will tell me what it is - that you're actually putting in your time, attention, energy, and resources towards your goals. Show me your bank account statement. That will show me what you're putting your time, energy, effort, and resources towards as well." - Christopher Dufey If I love Myself... "The question that I ask myself frequently is, "If I love myself, would I..." If I love myself, will I go to the gym today? If I love myself, will I read this book rather than watch Netflix? The "if" takes the hardness that could stop us from, "Do I actually love myself?" Which is obviously a journey that we need to be able to go on."- Christopher Dufey Work Hard Towards Your Goals "If you're working really hard towards something, at some point, you've got to push harder. You've got to go past that breaking point and make it happen. Other times, put it down and change directions. It's just not the right thing for you to do." - Christopher Dufey The Closeness of Death "What I took from this world is the fragility of life and how I could be snatched from this at any moment. We need to keep the closeness of death with us so that we can then best show up into this world." - Christopher Dufey Links From Today's Show  Christopher Dufey 512 Alison Armstrong: Unconscious Emasculation, What Women Don't Understand About Men + How To Get The Love You Want 369 Paul Chek | All Is God: Three Part Series 438 Justin Donald | Why Wellness Is A Pentagon: The Art of Financial Intelligence & Lifestyle Investing Mimetic theory 386 Mark Groves | Create More Love: How To Deal w/ Breakups, Boundaries, & Beyond 482 Dave Asprey | Advanced Biohacking For Body Mind & Spirit: How To Train A Healthy Brain, Boost Your Flow State + Remove False Beliefs 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 528 Vanessa Lambert | Clear Karma, Find Dharma: The Healing Power of Kundalini Yoga + Akashic Records On Bullshit by Harry Frankfurt The Brain Always Wins: Improving Your Life Through Better Brain Management by John Sullivan 435 Dr. John Gray | Wellness In Relationships: Testosterone, Estrogen, Semen Retention & Sexual Polarity Tim Ferriss Wild Wild Country 548 Dr. Stan Tatkin | Healing Toxic Relationships: What's The Bite That Fits Each Other's Wounds? This is when we see ourselves having to repeat a pattern over and over and feeling things that we never seem to "get past". This is when we need to look a little deeper into the family trauma geneology and see if this pattern, energy, and stuck feeling is really even ours. - Paul Levy Are You Stressed Out Lately? How is the Wetiko mind virus governing our lives and the world, and what is the most efficient remedy to awaken from the collective dream? Join Paul and Josh as they dive deep into Wetiko. Learn how to recognize Wetiko, what to do to free yourself from it, and how it impacts society and manifests in our day-to-day lives.   Listen To Episode 503 As Paul Levy Uncovers: [2:30] Poisoning Of The Human Evolution Awaken In The Dream With Paul Levy Wetiko: Healing the Mind-Virus That Plagues Our World by Paul Levy Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil by Paul Levy 405 Tim Corcoran | Vision Quest: How To Find Your Place In The Ecology of Life, Purpose Mountain & Spiritual Courage Paul Chek The mind virus: Why the origin of all evil comes from our psyche. [14:00] Wetiko Manifestation In Our Everyday Lives What the Wetiko is trying to reveal and why we need to recognize what it's showing us. [21:00] Our True, Creative Nature VS Collective Psychosis His practice to become familiar with his true nature to avoid being touched by evil. [28:25] Fighting Wetiko With Our Consciousness Why the essence of the Medicine Buddha is an inspiration to Paul, and the story behind his tapestry. How dreams become a reflection of our minds, reinforce our viewpoints, and hypnotize ourselves   [40:46] The Collective Dream Of Separate Selves Josh explains why it's impossible to go back to being unconscious after you start your healing journey. [45:05] Becoming The Observer + Changing The Past Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality by Paul Levy Why according to quantum physics there is only the present moment, and how we can access our power through it. [49:05] Awakening From The Wetiko Dream God is dark and light, everything and nothing, love, and hate. [56:00] The Self-Induced Mind Blindness What physically impossible things happened to Paul when he started awakening. [01:02:40] The Source Of Our Suffering A text by Jesus Christ that was edited out from the Bible: “I am a mirror to those that perceive me.” Why the mirror is a symbol of true nature in Buddhism. How identifying ourselves with our unhealed wounds feeds the Wetiko. How Buddha discovered that the source of our suffering is clinging. What it means that there is no Wetiko outside of us and the fear of Wetiko is actually Wetiko.   [01:06:40] The Inner & The Outer Manifestation Of Wetiko 344 Leslie Manookian | COVID19 – The Truth About Flattening The Curve Josh explains collective madness according to Carl Jung. [01:11:40] How Our Trauma Projects In The World Why the mirror etymologically means a holder of the shadow. [01:18:00] The Antidote For Wetiko 481 Scott Jackson | Rewire Yourself: How To Create A Life You Love With Freedom From Subconscious Sabotage Symbols are the language of dreams and the antonym to ‘diabolic': Recognizing the dream-like nature is the antidote for the diabolic energy of Wetiko. What if all that we inherit from our parents extended far beyond the physical and personality traits we're aware of? We all have trauma in our families, to some extent, but which factors decide whether that is passed down to our children? Today's guest, Mark Wolyn, has deeply researched the idea of inherited family trauma, and published his findings in his book, It Didn't Start with You. It explores, at length, the ways in which the trauma our parents, grandparents, or even great-grandparents experienced can be passed down through our genetics. Join us today to hear about Mark's own search for healing, after inexplicably losing vision in one of his eyes, before coming to learn that he needed to heal his bond with his mother. Learn about how human foundations for trust in life are formed, and what fascinating results epigenetic testing in mice has revealed about generational trauma. We also dive into how Mark distinguishes between attachment and generational trauma, and how he proceeds according to the diagnosis, before we hear how you can support your child's healing at any age. Thanks for tuning in to hear all this and more today! Key Points From This Episode:Meet today's guest, Mark Wolynn, and hear about his research into inherited trauma. The book he has written, It Didn't Start with You, which explores this idea in great depth. What generational trauma means and how the stress response is passed on. Genetics, epigenetics, and the molecular changes that happen after we experience trauma. How we usually think about our stress responses and relationship to anxiety and depression. What prompted Mark's research: inexplicably losing vision in one of his eyes. How his search for healing led him to repair his relationship with his parents, through a path of resolving his own relationship with anxiety. Generational behavior he identified in his mother and sister, fearing they would never see their mothers again.Healing the bond with his mother, restoring his vision, and developing his healing method. The foundation for having trust in life, starting with your relationship with your parents.Testing for generational trauma in mice and how their brains replicate the stress response.Epigenetic testing in baby mice. How sons and daughters are equally impacted by their mother and father's trauma.Triggering events that mirror our parents' trauma or take us back to very early memories. The epigenetic component to how we repeat cycles within parenting. How breaking the bond with our mothers can be like breaking the bond with ourselves.Learning to listen to your trauma language in order to understand the root of your responses. The question that reveals whether you are dealing with attachment trauma or generational trauma.Deciding what to do once you have identified the kind of trauma you are dealing with. What children reveal: what's unresolved between the parents, and what we experienced at their age.Why it is important to teach our children what happened in the family, and help them to sit with uncomfortable emotions at any age.Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Mark WolynnMark Wolynn on TwitterIt Didn't Start with YouThe Zen MommyGo to ahimsahome.com to get your set of smart stainless steel dishes for your kiddos. What actually blocks people from letting go of their stress, anxiety, and negative emotions? By the end of this episode, you will have a full understanding of how ancient breathwork turns your body into a conduit for healing depression and generational pain. How Josh and Gwen met for the first time in Sedona, Arizona when he went there to do a training with Carrie. What it's been like for Gwen to be back in Austin, Texas after about 40 years since she last visited it. The fact that Gwen was actually conceived in Austin and that's why it felt like home for her when she visited it in 1983. Unpacking how we can allow ourselves to be and feel more free in our skin. How growing up in a Mediterranean culture where differences are celebrated allows Gwen to see how homogenous American culture and identity are all over the country. What Gwen's 'Breath is Prayer' medicine is and how it helped Josh let go of held-back emotions. Why experience is vital if you're going to facilitate and hold space as you lead a breathwork ceremony. The fact that the average adult is only using 30% of their lung capacity. Why sometimes people are so triggered and afraid by the idea of doing the inner work that they don't even begin it. Exploring the deeply embedded thought in our psyche that everything we need is outside of ourselves when that isn't true. Why we are so afraid to authentically express ourselves out of fear of being punished. [10:40] The Core of Behavioral Dysfunction What microtrauma is and how Josh did it to himself when he would watch porn or not speak his truth when he was a child. Why energy from trauma doesn't just go away; it transmutes. Unpacking the core of dysfunction: being out of alignment with our natural way of being. Why freedom is something that we already have and how we can unblock ourselves to obtain it. The moments of freedom that Gwen has experienced and witnessed in others while doing breathwork. Why just doing breathwork is not enough; the release it gives us is fleeting and so it must be practiced consistently to help us feel free and in alignment. The fact that it takes 90 seconds for an emotion to move through us + what it is about our psyche that blocks them. Going beyond the intellectualization of our healing to focus on somatic healing. 249 SOMA Breath For Less Stress: Niraj Naik 410 Mark Divine | Positive Neurodiversity: Kokoro Spirit, The 5 Mountains For Inner Peace, & How To Fulfill Your Potential Why Gwen was the only breathwork teacher that made Josh feel like he could teach other people. [20:00] The Art of the Breath: What Skills a Facilitator Needs What to expect when working with Gwen both in groups and private sessions. The embodied learning that people go through when they do Gwen's breathwork facilitator program. Differences between feeling ready to practice breathwork compared to facilitating a session. What the best training she ever did was and why she did trainings for 3.5 years before becoming a facilitator. The Passion Test by Janet Bray Attwood - The Passion Test Common breathing mistakes we're making without even realizing it including holding our breath (especially exhales) for extended periods of time. The fact that more and more people are turning to breathwork as we experience more stress as a collective. How to go about selecting a breathwork program according to Gwen. Why it's so important to be a facilitator who creates such a safe space for participants that no matter what comes up, they can be there and support the people participating in the session. What usually comes up for people when they do breathwork and why trauma is present in various ways from crying and shaking to laughter or coughing. Gwen's own intense breathwork moment with a client and why it could've been an ego stripping or something from his past being let go. [34:20] We'll Always Be a Student of Life Josh Trent: Solocast | Healing The Father Wound, 100+ Hours Fasting, Vision Questing + Being Alone With Mother Nature's Wisdom The best way to use breath to assist an emotion as it makes its way through the body in 90 seconds. Why having an open mouth during breathwork makes such a difference because there is a lot of control held within the jaw. The fact that we can never fully become a master at anything until we accept that we are a student. Gwen's thirst for always growing, learning, and becoming an even better breathwork facilitator and trainer. Her experience growing up in North Africa in an atheist/agnostic household and why it was the most educational and informative experience for her. Why both Josh and Gwen feel like they didn't find the power of breathwork, it found them. The fact that Gwen's great aunt was a spiritual teacher ever since her early 20s and how that influenced her mother. What a Sufi retreat is and what most people get wrong about sufism. Where and when Gwen was first introduced to breathwork for the first time in her life. [45:00] How to Listen to Your Own Authentic Guidance System Gwen's experience attending Stanford and the pressure she felt to go since her parents both went there and chose the professor career route. The trauma that Gwen experienced in her upbringing and why being there with her parents while they were in hospice impacted her heart the most and that's when she really found her grit. Her experience being a single mother and fighting for her children in different ways. How breathwork and other inner work practices have helped her shift her trauma and difficult experiences into something that has made her stronger. Why she strongly believes that we all need mentors and even multiple ones to help us develop. Paleo(Fx) Who she turned to for help and support when she didn't receive that from her family. Why a person cannot do something like what Gwen does without going through a continuous healing process themselves. [55:30] The Breath is Prayer Experience 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born The vomiting response Josh had during a breathing ceremony that Gwen guided the night before and why he believes that happened. What to expect during a Breath is Prayer experience with Gwen. Why it's not uncommon for people to feel nauseous, dizzy, or even feel the need to go to the bathroom during a breathwork ceremony. The fact that Josh is still feeling the powerful medicine from last night's breathwork practice. How deep early childhood programming leads to our subconscious not wanting to feel and unpack our emotions, especially those we need to heal. [1:01:00] Why Death Can be Our Greatest Advisor Exploring the concept of death and how sometimes Josh and Gwen have experienced unique "death-like" out-of-body sensations during breathwork and for Josh also Ayahuasca ceremonies. Why the idea of death as her advisor has been a philosophy for Gwen for many years. The powerful exercise she did in which she was told death was coming and she had to prepare by writing letters to people and her own will. Lessons that death has taught her about how to be and live her life. How her grandmother's illness with polio and needing to walk with crutches showed up for Gwen in her epigenetics, beliefs, and healing journey. The deeply imprinted belief Gwen had at one point that she could not trust life. Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine by Candace B. Pert The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton How Family Constellations has expanded to the Systemic as well (such as the soul of a business for example) or the Collective to find out where energy is being blocked or not properly healed. [1:10:00] How Breath Exposes What's Already There Mindbody University What fascinated Gwen about breathwork the most to become a facilitator. How she has combined breathwork with the passion test, hypnotherapy, and epigenetic trauma. The incredible fact that we are breathing the same breath that our ancestors did. How you can combine breathwork with other healing modalities such as Family Constellations. The power of just doing a regular if not daily 3-10 minute breathwork practice. Gwen's powerful practice that she always does at the end of each of her own breathwork practices. Why Gwen says that "Breathwork doesn't bring anything new, it just exposes what's already there." Gwen's gift to the audience including an online breathwork ceremony recording. What Gwen believes is the meaning of her being a breathwork facilitator and life coach in Sedona. Why she believes we should all be striving to be the most authentic version of ourselves. The fact that it's just so much easier to trust a healer who is open about what they themselves are working on like in Gwen's case. What wellness means for Gwen with all of her life and work experiences. Power Quotes From The Show Letting Go of Our Collective Fear of Emotion "Collectively, we have such a profound fear of emotions. If people were to really go in and sort of take a magnifying glass approach at some of the beliefs that they hold in their body that have been imprinted on them, not that they consciously think these thoughts but they have them: 'If I feel this I will die,' or 'If I feel this I will go crazy,' or 'If I feel this I will never come back from it,' and on and on. So, people just fight it tooth and nail and the truth of the matter is if we could open up and allow that energy to flow through us, it's pretty easy. It might be intense but it's pretty easy." - Gwen Payne We're Only Using 30% of Our Lung's Capacity on Average "Do you know how little people are breathing? 30% is what the average American adult is said to breathe of their functional lung capacity. Only 30% is essentially starvation mode for the cells of your body and for your brain. You are literally living in survival mode and I don't think as a society we can help but feel anxious and depressed. If there is one thing I would encourage people to do, it's to breathe more." - Gwen Payne How Breathwork Unlocks Our Essential Nature "In breathwork, one of the things that I find so impactful is that concepts become viscerally experienced, and then it's an embodiment. In that moment of embodiment, there's nothing else that we're focusing on outside of ourselves; nothing. It's part of our essential nature. Those are the moments of freedom that I have experienced and witnessed in others. It's an experience of tuning the world out and letting go of what energies we have been carrying, releasing, bringing our attention inwards, and only then can we really experience that freedom." - Gwen Payne Links From Today's Show  Inspired Sedona Gwen's Gift to You! 249 SOMA Breath For Less Stress: Niraj Naik 410 Mark Divine | Positive Neurodiversity: Kokoro Spirit, The 5 Mountains For Inner Peace, & How To Fulfill Your Potential The Passion Test by Janet Bray Attwood - The Passion Test Josh Trent: Solocast | Healing The Father Wound, 100+ Hours Fasting, Vision Questing + Being Alone With Mother Nature's Wisdom Paleo(Fx) 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine by Candace B. And while this allows them to connect with others and learn more about the world, it can also lead to an overwhelming level of exposure to everything from cyberbullying to predators. Without parents there to steer them clear of danger, are kids bound to get into trouble? Not to mention that constant use of the internet–especially social media–can have seriously adverse effects on a kid's mental health. The perpetual pressure to live up to the images of perfection they see online has been linked to sky-rocketing growth in depression and anxiety disorders among kids. And it's young women in particular who face the most expectations online–the expectation to be sexual without being too sexual, the need to have the perfect body, and the constant fear that they aren't going to fit in with all their other peers. So how can we help girls who are struggling with the stressors of being online? We're asking Donna Jackson Nakazawa, author of Girls on the Brink: Helping Our Daughters Thrive in an Era of Increased Anxiety, Depression, and Social Media. Donna is a science journalist who's written for Wired, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and more! She's also a mom, and was inspired to dive deeper into girls' mental health when she saw how much her daughter was affected by the perils of the online world. In our interview, we're discussing how estrogen and the female immune system contribute to the development of mental health disorders among young girls, especially in our modern, media-driven world. The reason is that they are committed to making the highest quality, clean products that are free from problematic ingredients. Their beef comes from 100% grass fed cows raised entirely on natural grass pastures by family farmers right here in the USA. As a result they are healthy and happy. The result of raising turkeys in such a natural way is a much healthier, clean protein with higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and omega-3s. Unfortunately, virtually all turkey in the USA is conventionally raised with a small portion being "free range" – a virtually meaningless term that simply means the turkeys were allowed access to the outdoors. However, most "free range" turkeys only have access to an outdoor dirt field with no pasture in sight. We shouldn't label masculine or feminine energy as good or bad because we need both. How the masculine energy helped lead Dr. Jin to where she is now with her career. Why the feminine energy allows us to become our fully embodied selves. Her struggle listening to her feminine energy, and intuition to embody her work. The health issues that came up for Dr. Jin when she wasn't expressing herself through her feminine energy. The fact that all of the hives on her body were all over her joint lines and why that was significant to help her heal. How she uses her skin as a barometer to know when she is out of alignment. [25:00] Developing the Courage to Say, 'No' Breaking down why we struggle as a society to have the courage to say, 'No,' and set up healthy boundaries for our time and energy. The work she does to constantly teach and remind her clients how to say, 'No,' and that it's a full sentence - they don't have to explain why they're denying a request. Why it can be triggering to set healthy boundaries and that's why you have to know yourself so well including your values so that you can stay grounded in your decisions. Her journey of healing from being a constant high perfectionist with her Asian heritage and background. How parents can help their children heal and learn good behaviors by being good role models for them. [29:00] Seeing the Space in Between + The Four Milestones The Space Inbetween episode - The Art of Listening to Your Body Podcast What it means to see 'the space in between' when people get to the point where they're able to process their emotions and trauma. Viktor Frankl What the four milestones are that she sees her clients go through and how she breaks down each one. How being attentive and present to our emotions and triggers are the first steps for healing them. Unpacking why our deepest triggers are actually an invitation for us to heal.  The fact that even when you find your purpose or spark in life, challenges will still be present but you will know that they're there to help you grow. 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born Why she tries to turn people off from the work to actually make sure that they really want to do it. Signs that someone is truly ready to dive in and do the deep inner work. Why group work can be triggering for some people compared to 1-1 guidance with someone like Dr. Jin. [41:50] Healing Traumatic Birthing Experiences The importance of counselors and coaches learning how to ask their clients better questions. Questions Dr. Jin asks her clients to help them explore their minds and tap into their body wisdom. The beauty of being in an open environment where you can openly share. Unpacking why we sometimes seek permission to share our feelings or experiences. Why exploring uncomfortable topics is so important for the healing process and not welcoming that can halt discovery for months or years. The birth experience Josh and Carrie had for Novah and why things didn't work out as they had planned. How a traumatic or emergency birth experience or having the umbilical cord wrapped around their neck can impact people later on in life. Why Dr. Jin believes it's key for parents to have not only a birth plan in mind but some flexibility and adaptability as well to help their experience in advance. How she works with people about their birthing experience if that is something they're working on healing. Why people will naturally project their birthing experiences onto other people when discussing someone else's pregnancy. How to set up healthy boundaries when someone is telling you negative stories or frightening things they feel you should know about right then and there. Why it's key for parents to be aware of their energy and emotion when they tell their child about their birthing story. [51:30] A Warning About The Free Birth Movement The pressure and emotions of shame many women are facing with the Free Birth movement to have a natural birth but in an extreme scenario like being alone by a lake. Carrie and Josh's personal experience feeling pressure from others in the Free Birth movement when deciding on how to bring Novah into the world. Why no woman should feel shame for having a C-Section or seeking out medical attention if and when they need it. How dogmatic camps and beliefs can shift so quickly when the tables are turned. Why we can experience karma when we have very high expectations for something like a birth. The powerful fact that it's never too late to do the work, before or after you become a parent. How we can go so deeply into a masculine mode when not just raising a child but also essentially keeping it alive. Why Josh believes that some people from the Free Birth movement are indeed doing beautiful work helping women such as the organization, Indie Birth. Indie Birth [58:10] Emotional Intelligence Training for Men: During Partner's Pregnancy + Post-Partum Josh's disappointment in one of the popular Free Birth organizations for not providing any resources or support for fathers in the natural birthing process. Exploring different emotional training tools for men to help them support their partner during their pregnancy and post-partum experiences. Why women can have a traumatic birthing experience when they don't feel that they're receiving the support they need from their partner. How Dr. Jin's partner was present with her during the pregnancy by doing things together like meditation or reading the same books. What hypnobirthing is and why she recommends other couples read up about it as well. Hypnobirthing: A Natural Approach To A Safe, Easier, More Comfortable Birthing by Marie Mongan MEd MHy Important discussions she and her partner had when planning the birth of their child including taking into account that he has anxiety about hospitals. How to embrace the crown chakra and the qualities as well as emotions that it governs. What you can do to let go of old belief systems by asking yourself if you can be open to evolving and being curious. How to shift your mindset from "Why is this happening to me," to "Why is this happening for me." What wellness and living your life well means to Dr. Jin with all of her life and work experience. Power Quotes From The Show Have You Forgotten to Trust Your Heart? "Upbringing, conditioning, belief systems, the business of the masculine world, and getting stuck in the logical mind rather than trusting your heart block the body's voice from being heard. That is why having conversations with our younger selves is so important to help you come back home to yourself. In our pain, we often don't believe that it can get any better but yes; when have those deep, darker times it can make the high stuff feel even higher." - Dr. Jin Ong The Many Layers of Our Soul "I want people to know that there are so many layers to who they are. You ask one question and there are so many different perspectives and layers. Be and stay curious on your wellness path. There will be people who want to shut you down and stop you from growing but someone out there is going to be your support and help answer your questions to open up this wellness pathway even wider for you. Come back to that deeper inner trust and your intuition but communicate; use your voice if you're able to do so." - Dr. Jin Ong Dr. Jin Ong: Our Darkest Corners Hold the Greatest Lessons "So many people are under this illusion that when you connect with your purpose that your life is just going to flow and be free of challenges but that's not true. Instead, you learn to embrace the challenges and know and trust that there is a lesson in each one that will help you grow. I believe that we have these recurring things that happen and they can play out in our intimate relationships, our family, and at the workplace in different shapes, ways, and forms because there is a lesson there that we are yet to recognize. So, if we're willing to go in deep and be aware and get curious about our triggers, there definitely are deeper lessons that are linked to the interaction and reaction." - Dr. Jin Ong Links From Today's Show  The Art of Listening to Your Body Podcast with Dr. Jin Ong The Space Inbetween episode - The Art of Listening to Your Body Podcast Viktor Frankl 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma by Peter Levine Indie Birth Hypnobirthing: A Natural Approach To A Safe, Easier, More Comfortable Birthing by Marie Mongan MEd MHy How Your Doshas Change Through Life And A Secret To Health Two Phases Of Discomfort Is Catharsis Fragmenting? Jin Ong is a professionally trained as an osteopath, psychosomatic therapist, western medical acupuncturist and herbalist living in the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka, New Zealand. Having treated thousands of clients in her clinics, she soon became fed-up treating with her clinical skills alone. She wasn't seeing the results she'd hoped for. Deep down, she knew her client's pain (not only physical) was a manifestation of their emotional state. They were dealing with hidden trauma and stress they'd never spoken about, which impacted the ability of their physical and emotional body to heal. Their body was speaking to them, but they weren't listening. They had an emotional disconnect. How Dr. Jin Ong Helps People Heal Based on a client's pain, injury, mental imbalance or behavioural dysfunction, Jin tapped into her intuition and started interpreting the deeper emotional issues at play. Not only could she bring awareness to the issues her clients were previously unaware of, she started facilitating her clients through a process to help them release these stored emotions to truly liberate them of their pain physically and mentally. After a pandemic hit and her clinics had to shut down, fear drove her to do what she was really passionate about. To train other therapists in her methods and processes as well as work with people all around the world at a deeper level to create profound shifts in their life and realign them with their soul purpose. She loves to dig deep, speak about the unspoken, and help people process unresolved emotions that hold them back from living the life they truly want.

For many people, perfectionism is a response to trauma. It's not that you just want to do everything perfectly. So, when you are a perfectionist, you have this constant inner voice telling you, 'That's not good enough. You need to do it again.' It's a defense mechanism that we create which can lead to a negative mindset and inner voice that's a constant critic. That can then override these beautiful emotions like joy and love. Your heart resonates so many positive emotions but trauma can really override that in the inner critic.  - Dr. Wendy Myers Are You Stressed Out Lately? Their 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are unlike anything else on the market. In fact, they were recently voted in Paleo Magazine as one of the top snacks of the year. The reason is that they are committed to making the highest quality, clean products that are free from problematic ingredients. Their beef comes from 100% grass fed cows raised entirely on natural grass pastures by family farmers right here in the USA. As a result they are healthy and happy. PaleoValley's Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks Paleovalley Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks were created to make healthy snacking easier. Their turkey sticks are made from turkeys who are allowed to live as nature intended... on organic grass pastures with plenty of sunshine, fresh air and room to exercise. Their truly pasture-raised turkeys are given full access to outdoor, pesticide-free pasture with plenty of grass and insects for them to nibble on. What wellness means now to Dr. Wendy since her last Wellness + Wisdom podcast interview. Power Quotes From The Show Over 65% of Health Issues Caused by Emotional Trauma "In my research, I found that emotional trauma causes over 65% of physical health issues. It's really a bigger issue than I expected for both little 't' and big 'T' trauma. There will be people with extreme cases such as PTSD but what's more common is childhood attachment trauma or developmental trauma because of an abusive or neglecting parent. This creates a cycle of stress in the body and a person can then develop a high-stress set point where they can be more sensitive to a stressor than the next person and it causes this cascade of stress hormones that can lead to this whole biological domino effect in the gut and brain." - Dr. Wendy Myers The Genesis of Self-Hatred "The genesis of self-hatred comes from how you were treated as a child by your primary caregivers. The reason why you can't talk or intellectualize away these negative feelings about yourself or your parents as an adult is because many of these abusive or neglectful situations happened before you were even able to intellectualize or verbalize them. As a child, you were not even consciously aware of what was happening and that is why talking about them doesn't really work. A lot of people aren't even aware that they still have these issues and you don't have to know what happened to you or what your negative emotions are to tune them out of your energy field." - Dr. Wendy Myers How Different Enneagram Personality Types Respond to Trauma "So many of us have this negative inner voice that can creep in and in the Emotional Detox program, we explore the different enneagram personality types that people have and how this changes their response to trauma. Based on the trauma that you have, your different personality trait(s) might be expressed. Some such as Type 1 or Type 3 might become perfectionists in response to trauma." - Dr. Wendy Myers Links From Today's Show  The Emotional Detox Masterclass Myers Detox Protocol Course 205 How To Live To 110: Wendy Myers 304 Dr. Ann Shippy HeartMath Institute The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk 311 Mark Wolynn | It Didn't Start With You: Ending The Cycle of Inherited Trauma 366 Mark Wolynn | How To Heal Generational Trauma: The Thoughts, Feelings, Patterns & Behaviors Formed Before You Were Ever Born Richard Schwartz, IFS Institute Eileen Day McKusick - Biofield Tuning NES Health Harry Massey, Founder, NES Health 423 Ryan Duey | Ice Baths: Cold Therapy For Weight Loss, Immunity, Metabolism & Mental/Emotional Health Peter A. We discuss a documentary about coming out of the closet, and why it inspired Susie to be kind to everyone. We hear why you inherit trauma in the womb and your DNA literally changes because of it. Say Your Word is a digital platform by the acclaimed novelist, storyteller and women's rights activist Elif Shafak. A platform for words and anyone who cares about them. Language is the key to understanding and unlocking our world. It is also the key to the human heart. Words are often said to have power. What is not said that often is that they can hurt and even spread hatred and hostility, just like they can heal and bring about love, empathy and wisdom. They can divide, distance and "dehumanise", just like they can connect and “rehumanise" those who have been dehumanised. East and West, North and South, regardless of race, sex, gender, colour, religion, ethnicity, nationality or any other category, we are all made of stories. Stories bring us together, untold stories keep us apart. Today's word is TRAUMA. Subscribe to Elif Shafak's new YouTube channel to discover the beauty, complexity and magic of words. Ruth Rotkowitz is a novelist, including the book Escaping a Whale which focuses around holocaust survivors. Join Ruth and Pete in this episode where they talk all about inherited trauma, how Ruth was inspired to write and why at 73 Ruth has finally realised her dreams and is living her truth as a novelist.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Ruth has always wanted to write. She loves reading, literature and writing. She became an English teacher where she taught at a specialist New York school as well as community colleges in New Jersey but also wrote too. As a child of holocaust survivors, Ruth has suffered from what is called inherited trauma. One of the many side effects of this is children feeling like they have to make their parents suffering worthwhile, often by being extremely successful. Recent research has also found that the trauma affects children biologically, that they are literally inheriting the trauma as DNA. Networking and finding other people who had suffered similar experiences to Ruth is what pushed her to take her book to a publisher. The fear that parents passed onto their children is very real. Many holocaust survivors for example, wouldn't trust certain countries and would even be scared to be honest about their religion.   BEST MOMENTS “The holocaust is over but is it for the next generation?”   “The reaction I have gotten [to the book] has been wonderful”   ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Pete is an entrepreneur, mentor, coach, property Investor, and father of three beautiful girls. Pete's background is in project management and property, but his true passion is the ‘Fire in The Belly' project itself. His mission is to help others find their potential and become the mightiest version of themselves. Pete openly talks about losing both of his parents, suffering periods of depression, business downturn and burn-out, and ultimately his years spent not stoking ‘Fire in the Belly'. In 2017, at 37 years of age that changed, and he is now on a journey of learning, growing, accepting, and inspiring others. Pete can connect with people and intuitively asks questions to reveal a person's passion and discover how to live their mightiest life. Mark Wolynn is an expert on inherited family trauma and the author of the book, It Didn't Start With You. His research and perspectives on trauma provide immense opportunities for healing, not just for the individual, but for generations to come. By understanding where we come from and the baggage that we carry, we can live with fewer emotional burdens today and break cycles that might sabotage our future and that of our offspring. I cannot more strongly recommend Mark's book, and we explore many of its concepts in this interview. We begin with the notion of inherited trauma and the direct biological link of at least three family generations, and energetically of many more. Another major topic is attachment trauma, and we discuss how a break in the mother bond at any stage of childhood development can have massive reverberations in adulthood and potentially through the family lineage. In his book and clinical practice, Mark explores core language and how it can serve as a map through our family history to the root of traumas. Mark also takes us along his personal journey into a debilitating condition that catalyzed his global travel in search of healers and healing. What he eventually discovered shocked him and sent him back to his childhood home to renegotiate his relationship with his parents. There a hug from his mom helped not only to initiate his healing but also to shape his clinical practice, and we talk about the power of hugs in therapy. We also talk about his work with Family Constellations and assess the global traumas of the pandemic that are affecting all of us. Through his work and writing, Mark elegantly lays out possible paths to recovery and has helped countless break the cycle of suffering. This is a practical, eye opening, and inspirational interview that has the potential to serve all of humanity. Please enjoy this episode of Salish Wolf with Mark Wolynn. I’m here with Dr. Jennifer Tippett, a licensed clinical psychologist in the Denver Metro area. Dr. Tippett has been working with patients with mental illness and substance misuse for a decade. She’s the director of the Substance Use Disorder specialty at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology, where she teaches the sequence of graduate-level courses about the neurobiology of trauma, addiction, and behavioral addictions. She also has a small private practice where she provides psychedelic integration and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. I wanted to have her on because these things have been helpful to me in my own life, and because we’re likely going to see the clinical legalization of substances in the United States in the next couple of years. I think education around this topic ahead of time is vitally important, as it can be easily misunderstood or even misused.
