This week, the boys head to the jungle for one of Amazon Studios' first films, James Gray's “The Lost City of Z”. That's pronounced “Zed” for you British purists. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson with a beard and glasses, and Sienna Miller. It was produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and was SOMEHOW filmed on a $30 million budget, half of which was spent flying the dailies out of the actual Amazon jungle. We get drinking with a few mini-reviews at the top, and Jeff must have started early because he recorded with his microphone facing the wrong way. In this episode of The Determined Society, host Shawn French sits down with viral creator Daniel Mac, the mind behind the iconic street interviews asking strangers in luxury cars, “What do you do for a living?” Daniel takes us inside his journey from a finance job in Dallas to one of the most recognizable creators on the planet. He opens up about the fear and rejection that came with pioneering a new format, getting banned from filming locations, and the relentless grind that turned a spontaneous COVID experiment into a full-blown global brand. They dive deep into the mechanics of virality—authenticity, timing, algorithms, and creative evolution—and explore how understanding people is just as important as understanding platforms. Daniel also reveals behind-the-scenes stories from celebrity encounters with Mark Zuckerberg, Travis Scott, and Jay Leno, showing that even the world's biggest names are just people at the end of the day. This episode is a masterclass in creative determination, self-belief, and staying grounded while the internet tries to turn you into a caricature. Whether you're a content creator, entrepreneur, or someone searching for the courage to take your first leap—this one will hit home. Key Takeaways -Rejection is fuel—Daniel's early failures became his foundation. -Authenticity outperforms gimmicks. Viewers can sense real connection. -Social media algorithms reward consistency and platform fluency. -Timing matters—post when people care most. -Celebrities are human too—approach them with curiosity, not worship. -Passion and persistence trump perfection. Disney is always looking for new ways to share stories. And increasingly those stories are trying to be more interactive, more immersive and more personalized. And at the same time, high tech companies are trying to be more interactive, more immersive and more personalized. One of those is Meta, or Facebook as many have come to know it. And as Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a new version of their Meta/RayBand eye wear, Disney has also announced that it will be partnering with Meta to create more interactive, more immersive, and more personalized experiences. With a pair of original Meta Glasses I recently received, I visited Disney's Hollywood Studios to test them out. The outcome is this: Meta Glasses are astonishingly smart while being amazingly stupid. This episode shows you how they accomplish both. But in the wake of it, offers some glimpse of what the future might do. So kick back and enjoy this episode as we explore the AI Possibilities at Disney through Rose-Colored Metas. ________________________________________________________ Disney Insights YouTube Page--Check it out and subscribe. It's a famously awful quote used by Mark Zuckerberg in Facebook's (now Meta) early days. Move fast. Break things. The idea behind it was, allegedly, to spark innovation; to remove obstacles in creativity by giving folks license to make mistakes, to iterate and to charge forward. This IS critical for innovation. Moving forward, moving quickly, not needing things to be “finished” or “perfect” before launching.AND as with so many things, taken literally and/or implemented by individuals who are focused on immediate goals rather than long term, this type of practice can have catastrophic impact.Just look at the devastation wrought by Facebook's ham-handed approach to “connecting”people. The disintegration of our social fabric. The explosive rise of loneliness, depression and suicide - especially amongst overly digitally saturated teens. Were the creators and builders of the platform looking down the road, planning for contingencies and possibilities, could this have been avoided? Perhaps. We'll never know know. We do know at least one Twitter founder who apologized for their ignorance of what they'd built. And so it has gone over the years with folks so focused on creation that they neglected to think about impact.Trouble is, if you spend too much time on that front, you don't innovate. So it's not really about moving fast and breaking things. It's about being responsible and cleaning up whatever mess you create. And that's what I discuss this week.In a world where what passes for radical honesty usually means someone is just letting things fly outta their pie-hole without much care for others, it's time for radically authentic conversation. Conscious communication is simple, but often isn't easy. That's why Cathy Brooks created Talk, Unleashed – a weekly podcast of radically honest conversation about — everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, each episode invites curiosity. Curiosity not about what people do, but why they do it. Who they are and what makes them tick. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. A mix of solo episodes where Cathy shares her insights and experience or Cathy engaged in conversation with fascinating humans doing amazing things. No matter the format - it's unvarnished, radically honest and entirely unleashed. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy works with symphony orchestras, corporate clients, and individuals to help them unleash and untether their leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages.#movefastbreakthings #responsibility #accountability #planninghead #cleaningupmess #dogbehavior #baddogbehavior #dogtraining #shiftingbehavior #brutalhonesty #radicalhonesty #consciouscommunication #leadership #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #fiercecompassion #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

Reid Hoffman's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is tenuous, controversial, and wrapped in layers of public explanation and regret. Hoffman has admitted that he invited Epstein to a 2015 dinner in Palo Alto (with luminaries like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg) as part of fundraising efforts for the MIT Media Lab—on the basis that MIT leadership had “vetted” Epstein. He later issued a public apology, saying that while he believed the invitation was appropriate at the time, it was a serious error in judgment to associate with Epstein post-conviction.But deeper reporting has further complicated Hoffman's narrative. Documents indicate that Hoffman visited Epstein's private island, Little St. James, in 2014 (after Epstein's 2008 conviction), apparently connected with MIT-related fundraising. Other records show plans for Hoffman to stay in Epstein's New York townhouse and attend social engagements with him and other tech elites. Hoffman's defenders say his ties were limited to philanthropy and fundraising, but critics argue that even those interactions — especially occurring after Epstein's well-known legal disgrace — raise troubling questions about judgment, complicity, and the degree to which Epstein was able to rehab his social capital among elite tech circles.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

Hoffman's defenders say his ties were limited to philanthropy and fundraising, but critics argue that even those interactions — especially occurring after Epstein's well-known legal disgrace — raise troubling questions about judgment, complicity, and the degree to which Epstein was able to rehab his social capital among elite tech circles.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Send us a textTransforming your life doesn't require massive overhauls or exhausting weekly pushes. The mathematical reality is astounding – improving just 1% daily compounds to make you 37 times better over a year. This powerful principle is the secret weapon of consistent high achievers across every domain. We often sabotage ourselves by trying to revolutionize everything at once. Instead, the path to extraordinary results lies in small, deliberate improvements compounded daily. This episode breaks down exactly how to apply this approach across five critical areas of your life. From physical energy (your most renewable asset) to mental clarity (reducing decision fatigue like Mark Zuckerberg's uniform approach), to relationship capital (meaningful connections versus passive following), systems and processes (creating friction-free routines), and financial growth (automated micro-investments) – each dimension benefits tremendously from the 1% philosophy. The beauty of this approach is its simplicity and measurability. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by trying to transform everything simultaneously, you'll learn to focus on creating one small, digestible win each day. Whether it's five pushups, reading a single page, sending one thoughtful message, or investing a few dollars – these micro-actions compound dramatically over time. By the end of this episode, you'll identify your specific 1% improvement to implement immediately, planting your flag in the ground for sustainable transformation. Your journey to extraordinary results starts with a single, tiny step taken consistently. Which area will you choose to improve today? In this special episode of The Digital Marketing Podcast, Daniel Rowles sits down with Alex Schultz, Meta's Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Analytics, to unpack the future of digital marketing, and why the fundamentals still matter more than ever. Alex shares lessons from his remarkable journey: from running the world's top paper airplane website to leading growth at Meta, managing multi-billion dollar ad campaigns, and now authoring the industry-defining book Click Here. With high-profile endorsements from Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman, Daniel Ek, and Matthew Vaughn, the book has already gettimg rave reviews, and Daniel is putting it straight onto the reading list for his students at Imperial College. Together, Daniel and Alex dig into the core principles of great marketing: how to set meaningful goals, measure true impact, build high-performance teams, and embrace AI without losing your strategic edge. In This Episode: Why Alex wrote Click Here and why the industry desperately needed a book that gets back to fundamentals, marketing measurement, and pride in the profession. The power of incrementality: How to run meaningful tests, avoid vanity metrics, and prove real value to your CEO and CFO. Why goals are not the same as metrics and how mixing them up can derail your marketing efforts. The importance of awareness:  Why most businesses fail because people simply don't know they exist. Marketing mix matters: How one newspaper mention outperformed every digital channel—and why the basics still beat the buzz. Mediocre marketing + great conversion = success: Why broken funnels kill campaigns, no matter how brilliant your creative is. How Meta builds defensible growth : What sets their marketing apart, from deep integration with product and engineering, to AI-powered insights. AI's real impact on marketing jobs: A breakdown of the three kinds of disruption AI will bring, and why the marketers who embrace it will thrive. Paper planes, transparency, and unexpected beginnings: Hear how Alex's nerdy hobby turned into a viral website, and why he publicly shares his university grades to inspire others. Key Takeaways: Get back to basics: Clear goals, good data, and fundamental models (like the funnel) still win. Measure what matters: Metrics are not goals - incrementality is everything. Focus on defensibility and scale in your marketing channels, don't waste time on things that can't grow. AI won't replace marketers - marketers who use AI will replace those who don't. Be transparent and human: Success doesn't require perfection, it requires clarity, curiosity, and continuous learning.

“You don't get to nearly 300 episodes without making a few enemies.” Join Ian, Liam & Kev for our 298th episode as we log on, code furiously, and sue each other over The Social Network (2010). Megs? She's not with us this week—she's in “Facebook jail” for excessive poking (it was bound to happen). We're carrying around a chicken for a week in our 298th episode as we discuss: Our best day for downloads ever—and it's not even close. Our trip to an award show (well… kind of). A new Patreon joins the fold—proof we're building our very own social network. Just how much credit should the money man get vs the idea man? What is it that makes Aaron Sorkin's writing so great—and why does this film feel like it moves at the speed of thought? What's the one part we think the film gets wrong? Does the absence of errors make a film a masterpiece—or does it need a few rough edges to feel human? Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg: sympathetic genius or socially awkward supervillain? Fincher's precision—how much of the film's impact comes from direction versus dialogue? And finally, whether The Social Network is the Best Film Ever—or just the sharpest film of the 2010s. Katie Couric pokes fun at Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad in a new PSA for colon cancer screenings. The clip opens to a close-up of Katie wearing a jean jacket, and quickly pans out to show she's wearing a hospital gown underneath, and she's on a gurney getting ready for a colonoscopy. She tells the camera, quote, "Speaking of genes. Did you know that the majority of people who develop colon cancer are not genetically predisposed to the disease? That's why doctors recommend everyone 45 and older get checked." Katie told "People" magazine, quote, "That ad showed how pop culture and a pair of jeans could really shape the cultural conversation, it was everywhere. It was a moment in time, and we thought, 'Why don't we ride that horse a little bit longer and have some fun with it?'" It'sbeen 25 years since Katie became the first person in history to broadcast a colonoscopy on national TV. She lost her husband to colon cancer in 1998. He was only 42. And while bookings are sold out, you can register to be on a waitlist, or be notified if additional dates become available. When the show was in production back in the day, the house was only used for EXTERIOR shots. The inside of the Brady home was created on a soundstage, and the inside of the actual house looked nothing like it. But HGTV bought the house in 2018, and renovated it so that it DOES match the house from the show. And of course, they recorded it for a series called "A Very Brady Renovation". Politics makes strange bedfellows. Who would've thought that Liz Cheney, who voted with Trump 97% of the time during his four years in office would become a liberal hero for standing up to his lies and autocratic desires? And Facebook makes a big show out of its decision to uphold the former president's suspension. But it's all just a big sideshow for the fact that Zuckerberg and Co don't want to have to change how they do business. Now they're in a nightmare scenario of their own making. Finally, progressive superstar journalist David Corn drops by Mea Culpa to discuss Don Jr's legal troubles, the Facebook decision and much, much more.    To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices.
