What if the habits that make you the most successful… look a little unhinged from the outside? In this solo episode, I'm sharing the wellness rituals I swear by, the ones that might seem extra, quirky, or unnecessary, but have completely changed my energy, focus, and ability to stay grounded when life is full. Because I've learned this the hard way: success isn't strategy. It's capacity. It's nervous system support that lets you hold more without cracking, lead without spiralling, and show up with clarity when the calendar is packed and the stakes are real.Inside, I'll walk you through what I actually do behind the scenes to protect my sleep, reduce decision fatigue, and make my days feel cleaner and calmer. I'll share a few of my most “unhinged” ones, plus the simple nightly reset that makes tomorrow easier before it even starts. If you've been doing all the “right” things and still feel tired, stretched, or one small inconvenience away from snapping, this episode will give you practical, permission-filled ideas you can start using immediately.Work with me: www.melissaambrosini.com/strategyHead to www.melissaambrosini.com/689 for the show notes.Join my weekly newsletter: www.melissaambrosini.com/newsletterGet my FREE ZenTone Meditation: www.melissaambrosini.com/zentoneFollow me on Instagram: @melissaambrosini Hosted on Acast. We are experts at making our emotions much worse than they really are. You might feel stressed, and within a few seconds it becomes “I can't handle this.” You feel overwhelmed, and suddenly it's “this is too much.” You feel stuck or frustrated, and your mind goes to “this is never going to change.” In those moments, it doesn't feel like a thought. It feels true. It's not just that you're feeling something uncomfortable. It's that the feeling turns into a conclusion about your life. Stress turns into “I can't handle this.” Frustration turns into “this will never change.” Discomfort turns into “I need this to stop.” Once that happens, it changes how you experience everything. It changes how you think, feel, and what you want to do next. So in this episode, we're going to break down why that happens. Why emotions don't just stay as emotions, why your brain turns them into meaning, and why that can make you feel trapped, overwhelmed, or hopeless, even when the situation itself hasn't actually changed. This episode is brought to you by the 5th Annual Scaling Joy Retreat. This five-day retreat in a private beachfront villa in Playacar, Mexico (May 17–21) is designed for high-capacity women who are ready to rest, reconnect, and expand without performance. Learn more at https://patricewashington.com/retreat ✨ About This Season: The Anatomy of Alignment This season of Redefining Wealth is dedicated to unpacking what alignment really means — not as a buzzword, but as structure. We're dissecting how misalignment impacts each of the Six Pillars of Wealth — Fit, People, Space, Faith, Work, and Money — and what it truly costs when we tolerate what drains us. Each episode builds on the last. So subscribe and journey with us as we move from awakening… to redefining… to actualizing.   Episode Summary Are you happy? Not the version that sounds good. The real one. That's where this conversation between Patrice and Danny Morel begins—cutting past performance and into truth. Because it's possible to have a life that works… and still feel disconnected from it. To be productive, respected, even grateful—and yet know something deeper is out of alignment. Together, they explore what it really means to awaken—not as a moment, but as a willingness to question what you've accepted about identity, faith, and success. Danny shares how personal loss led him to examine the beliefs he once held without question, especially around faith. The conversation reveals a powerful truth: faith isn't meant to be inherited blindly—it's meant to be experienced and defined for yourself. They also unpack the difference between living from fear and living from love. Because what many of us have called “faith” is actually fear—fear of being wrong, judged, or rejected. And fear doesn't create alignment. It creates performance. This episode is an invitation to stop performing, trust your inner knowing, and reconnect with what feels true for you.   Questions to Ask Yourself: Am I truly happy, or have I just learned how to function through misalignment? Do my beliefs feel true for me, or have I been afraid to question them? Where in my life am I performing instead of living in alignment? What would it look like to trust the wisdom already within me? Am I living from fear, or am I willing to choose love and connection in this season?   Want to Redefine Wealth for Yourself? Start Here:

What are the positive meanings and what are the ones that do not sit well with you?Where did those negative meanings come from? NICHOLAS CARR: The Case for Adding Friction

    Business Accelerator

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 18, 2026 62:54

We've never had more access to information or more tools to make work faster and easier. But according to Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows and Superbloom, speed and efficiency come with trade-offs we rarely stop to examine. In this episode, Michael and Megan talk with Carr about the paradox of modern productivity: the very systems that help us scale our work can fragment our attention and erode the depth that makes that work meaningful. If you've felt stretched thin or subtly less present than you want to be, this conversation will help you re-evaluate your technology—and the life you're building with it.Memorable Quotes“Many people have this sense that as everything speeds up, we seem to be able to do more. But actually our attention gets fragmented and we're not thinking as straight as we used to…The basic mistake at a personal level is the assumption that human attention, human thought, human communication always gets better as it gets more efficient.”“At a certain point, we simply overload our natural mental and psychological capacity to communicate, to process information, to make coherent thoughts. And at that point, a reversal takes place in faster communication: faster flow of information actually undermines understanding, undermines productivity, and in the worst case scenario, can start undermining relationships as well.”“As we use the tools, they also shape us. And I think that's particularly true of information technologies, communication technologies, media technologies.”“One of the big problems is that [social media platforms] take all friction out of socializing. You think, ‘Oh, we don't want friction.' But actually, it's… making an effort, having to do some work, maybe even having to pay a little money for a stamp to put on an envelope—all of these things deepen our connection to what we're doing. Getting rid of all the friction makes everything very fast, but it also makes everything superficial.”“We're encouraged to take the path of least resistance all the time. And if people can just step back and say, ‘When is efficiency good? When is getting something done as quickly as possible the best way to accomplish it? And when is the product going to be better if I actually put more effort into it, if I work at it?'”“The way we master a skill, any skill, is by actually practicing it. Getting in there, coming up against friction, coming up against barriers and overcoming them. That's the only way to raise your level of mastery or expertise… If you just go the path of least resistance at the very beginning, then you never get that deep learning and you never get the joy of becoming talented.”“One of the dangers of this screen-based life that we haven't talked about is that it steals from us certain levels of sensory engagement with the world… there's a lot of joy in connecting to the world with all our senses that, if we constantly have this little rectangle of glass in front of us, we're losing.”Key TakeawaysFaster Isn't Always Better. At a certain point, efficiency overloads our cognitive and emotional capacity. More communication can undermine understanding, productivity, and even relationships.Tools Shape Their Users. We create technology, but over time, it reshapes how we think, communicate, and experience the world. Texting, scrolling, and AI-assisted writing subtly influence depth and nuance.Friction Fuels Mastery. Deep learning requires struggle. When we automate the hard parts—like reading closely, writing clearly, thinking critically—we sacrifice growth for convenience.AI Is a Fork in the Road. Used wisely, AI can sharpen ideas and support thinking. Used carelessly, it can replace the very mental practices that build wisdom and skill.Replacement Beats Removal. Simply cutting back on technology often leaves a vacuum. Replacing screen time with embodied, social, or sensory-rich experiences creates lasting change.Local Community Is a Powerful Antidote. Book clubs, gardening groups, shared meals and other face-to-face interactions restore depth in ways screens cannot replicate.Resources“Live a Quiet Life and Work with Your Hands” (Substack Article)Superbloom by Nicholas CarrThe Shallows by Nicholas Carrnicholascarr.comWatch on YouTube at:  https://youtu.be/9afbaUcmvYQThis episode was produced by Sarah Vorhees Wendel of VW Sound

For years, women have been told to just focus harder, get organized, use the planner, and stick to the system. But when those systems don't work, the assumption is that we're the problem. In this episode of This Is Woman's Work, Nicole Kalil sits down with ADHD counselor, author, and creator of the ADHD Regulation Method, Jenna Free, to challenge the idea that there's a “right” way for our brains to function. Jenna offers a different perspective: ADHD isn't a defect — it's a brain difference. And many of the struggles people associate with ADHD may actually come from something else entirely — chronic nervous system dysregulation and living in constant fight-or-flight mode. In this conversation, Jenna breaks down why so many traditional productivity tools fail people with ADHD, how dysregulation fuels overwhelm and procrastination, and what it actually takes to create balance, focus, and sustainable productivity. This conversation isn't just for people with ADHD. It's for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed, stuck, behind, or convinced that they just need to try harder. In this episode, we explore: Why ADHD is considered a brain difference, not a disorder or failure How chronic fight-or-flight dysregulation amplifies ADHD symptoms Why rushing is one of the biggest signals of nervous system dysregulation The difference between living in potential vs. reality (and why it matters) The role of curiosity — instead of guilt and shame — in changing patterns Why traditional productivity advice often backfires for ADHD brains When medication can be helpful — and why it's not a moral decision If you've ever felt like your brain just doesn't cooperate with the way the world expects you to work… this conversation might just change how you see yourself. Collaboration doesn't fail because people are "difficult." It's because we confuse control with leadership. If you've ever left a collaboration thinking “Why was that so hard?”—this episode is for you. EPISODE SUMMARY Everyone says they value collaboration. Few leaders actually know how to practice it when the pressure is real. In this episode, Jenn sits down with Catherine Casalino, a veteran book cover designer and art director who has spent decades co-creating with authors, editors, and publishers—often under tight deadlines, high expectations, and very strong opinions. This conversation isn't about design. It's about how leaders create conditions where collaboration can actually work—without micromanaging, steamrolling, or disappearing into people-pleasing. Catherine shares what she listens for when collaboration is about to struggle, why iteration is a leadership skill (not a failure), and how joy shows up in the quiet, high-stakes moments where leaders are tempted to control. If you lead people, projects, or cross-functional work, this episode will change how you approach collaboration—starting now. Here's What's in the Episode: [00:05] Why most collaboration breaks down in the quiet, pressured moments, not the big blowups. 02:16] The hidden leadership skill at the center of joyful collaboration: shared ownership. [6:49] Why listening is a people-power skill, not a “soft skill." [17:10] Early warning signs that a collaboration is going to struggle and how to respond without ego. [29:45] Why the first draft is never the goal and why leaders need to normalize iteration. [30:16] “The only job of the first draft is to exist” and what that teaches us about leadership [43:51] How joy becomes viral in teams when leaders are willing to examine themselves first Leaders searching for how to improve collaboration at work, collaborative leadership skills, how to lead creative teams, or how to collaborate without micromanaging will find practical insight in this episode of the Joyosity Podcast. Through a real-world conversation on collaboration, leadership, communication, and trust, Jenn Whitmer and Catherine Casalino explore what makes collaboration succeed—or quietly fall apart—especially under pressure. This episode is especially relevant for leaders navigating cross-functional teams, creative collaboration, feedback challenges, people-pleasing tendencies, and control-driven leadership habits, offering a grounded, human approach to building joyful, effective collaboration that actually works. Key Takeaway Collaboration doesn't require "let's just get together." It requires braver leaders that make room for evolution, listening, and shared ownership. About the Guest: Catherine Casalino Catherine Casalino is an accomplished art director and book cover designer who has worked in publishing for decades, designing covers across genres and collaborating with countless authors and creative teams—including the covers for Joyosity and the Playbook. Are you pouring energy into social media, podcast guesting, and SEO — only to watch those visitors disappear with no way to reach them again? In this episode of Her Faith at Work, Jan Touchberry reveals why your email list is the single most powerful organic marketing tool a Christian woman entrepreneur can build — and why every other visibility strategy you use becomes exponentially more effective when it feeds into a well-tended list.Jan breaks down the "bucket with a hole in it" problem that plagues even the most visible online businesses, walks through what a healthy email list actually does for your bottom line, brings a faith-based perspective on email stewardship, and gives you a practical 5-step framework — including a complete welcome sequence breakdown — to start building and tending your list today. What We Cover in This EpisodeWhy social media is "borrowed ground" — and what that means for your business stabilityThe mindset shift: your email list is the engine of visibility, not the reward for it4 things a healthy email list does for your business (including the one that directly impacts revenue)Why building an email list is an act of faith-based stewardshipThe 5 practical components you need to start growing your listA complete breakdown of the 5-email welcome sequence that warms up new subscribersWhat to do right now — whether you have no list, a dormant list, or a thriving oneKey Takeaways1. Social Media Is Borrowed GroundYou do not own your Instagram following, your Facebook page, or your TikTok audience. Algorithms shift, accounts get shut down, platforms disappear. Your email list is the one audience asset you actually own — and you can take it with you anywhere.2. Your List Is the Engine, Not the RewardWaiting until you have a "big enough" following to focus on your email list is a costly mistake. Every piece of visibility content you create — podcast appearances, SEO blog posts, collaborations — becomes dramatically more effective when it flows to a list that captures and retains interested people.3. Email Converts Better Than Social MediaPeople on your email list have already taken a step toward you. They are not passive scrollers — they are engaged. The data consistently shows that email subscribers convert to buyers at a significantly higher rate than social media followers.4. Your List Is a Stewardship ResponsibilityWhen someone hands you their email address, they are trusting you with something personal. Stewarding that access well — showing up with intention, delivering real value, not abusing the relationship — reflects the kind of business you are called to build.5. Consistency Is CompoundingEvery email you send is a deposit into the relationship. Going silent for months and then appearing in someone's inbox to sell something is a trust-breaker. You don't have to email daily — but you do have to show up regularly enough that people remember who you are.The 5-Email Welcome Sequence BreakdownJan walks through her recommended welcome sequence for new subscribers:Email 1 — Deliver & Introduce (Send immediately)Deliver the freebie, introduce yourself in 2-3 sentences, and tell subscribers what to expect from you going forward. Keep it short and warm.Email 2 — Your Story (Send 1-2 days later)Why do you do what you do? What brought you here? People buy from people they relate to — this is where that connection starts.Email 3 — Address the Core Problem (Send 2-3 days later)Speak directly to the struggle that brought them to your list. Show them you understand. This is not a sales email — it's an "I see you" email.Email 4 — Teach Something Useful (Send 2-3 days later)Give a quick win. A tip, a framework, a simple shift they can apply immediately. Proving your value before you ask for anything builds trust fast.Email 5 — Make an Offer (Send 2-3 days later)Now you've earned the right to invite them into something. Keep it natural and low-pressure: "If you want to go deeper, here's how I can help."5 Things You Need to Start Building Your List1. A compelling opt-in offerSolve one specific problem for one specific person. A checklist, guide, private podcast playlist, or short video training — something that gives her a quick win.2. A dedicated landing pageA clean page that answers three questions: What is it? Who is it for? What do they get?3. An email platformFlodesk, ConvertKit, MailChimp, ActiveCampaign — the best one is the one you will actually use. Set up automated delivery so your freebie reaches subscribers immediately.4. A welcome sequenceThree to five emails that introduce you, build trust, and set up a natural first offer. Don't leave new subscribers in silence.5. ConsistencyShow up regularly. Not necessarily daily or even weekly — but often enough that your subscribers remember who you are when your email lands.Resources & Links MentionedJoin Jan's email list: jantouchberry.com/newsletterFlodesk (email platform Jan uses) — https://jantouchberry.com/emailYour Next StepNo email list yet?Start today. Pick a platform, create a simple freebie, set up a landing page. Done is better than perfect.Have a list but haven't emailed in a while?Send an email this week. No explanations needed — just show up, deliver value, and start rebuilding the habit.Already emailing consistently?Make sure your opt-in is connected to every visibility strategy you're using. What If the Biggest Myths About Money, Entrepreneurship, and the Future Are Completely Wrong? In this conversation, I sat down with my friend Daymond John, and we went deep on the real truths about entrepreneurship, rejection, money, and where the world is heading next. Most people know Daymond from building FUBU and as a Shark on Shark Tank, but what you're going to hear in this episode is the mindset that actually built his success. Not the highlight reel. The real lessons. The failures. The hard-earned wisdom that only comes after decades in the arena. Daymond and I talked about something that might surprise a lot of people. Not everyone should be an entrepreneur. In fact, Daymond believes some of the most successful businesses are built when visionaries surround themselves with incredible operators. Every Batman needs a Robin. Every Captain Kirk needs a Spock. Entrepreneurship is not about doing everything yourself. It is about building the right team, embracing rejection, and continuing to move forward even when the world keeps telling you no. We also got real about the myths surrounding money. Daymond shared how early in his career he believed you needed money to make money. Then later he discovered the opposite problem. When he finally had money, he thought throwing capital at problems would solve them. It did not. The truth is that money does not build businesses. People do. Work ethic does. And your reputation matters more than almost anything because it takes years to build and seconds to destroy. One of the most fascinating parts of this conversation was where the world is going next. Daymond has been studying AI, biohacking, and live selling intensely over the last few years because he believes we are entering a period of massive disruption. Entire industries are going to change. Jobs will evolve. And the people who thrive will be the ones who adapt quickly, stay curious, and position themselves on the right side of innovation. This conversation is not just about business today. It is about preparing for the future that is coming faster than most people realize. We also talked about something I believe every listener needs to hear. Your personal brand matters now more than ever. Whether you are a CEO, an entrepreneur, or just starting out in your career, people are forming opinions about you before they ever meet you. Your brand walks into the room before you do. The question is whether you are defining it or leaving it up to someone else. This episode is one of the most honest entrepreneurial conversations I have had in a long time. If you care about building something meaningful, navigating rejection, and staying ahead of the massive changes coming in business and technology, you are going to love this one. Key Takeaways Why not everyone is built to be an entrepreneur and why that is okay The myth that you need money to make money and the real drivers of success How to develop the rejection muscle required to win in business Why your reputation and personal brand are your most valuable assets The massive impact AI and technological disruption will have on careers and industries How entrepreneurs should prepare themselves for the next decade of change Listen now and get ready to rethink what it really takes to win in business and life.

In this solo episode, Travis continues the conversation about the growing loneliness epidemic and why meaningful friendships are essential for a successful and fulfilling life. Travis shares personal experiences—from navigating a difficult season in business to recovering from cancer surgery—and explains how those moments reshaped the way he prioritizes relationships. Instead of focusing purely on business or money strategies, Travis dives into the overlooked reality that strong friendships are one of the biggest contributors to long-term happiness, health, and even professional success. He breaks down practical ways to become a better friend, how to intentionally create shared experiences, and why ambitious people often need to be extra careful not to sacrifice relationships in pursuit of achievement. On this episode we talk about: Why the modern loneliness epidemic is affecting people—especially men—more than ever How creating shared experiences is one of the best ways to strengthen friendships Why ambitious people often sacrifice friendships for work (and why that's dangerous) How to prioritize friendships alongside work, family, and personal goals The power of asking deeper questions to build genuine connection Top 3 Takeaways If you want better friendships, become a better friend first.Strong relationships rarely happen by accident—you often need to be the person who organizes the hangouts, plans the trips, and brings people together. Don't sacrifice friendships for ambition.Work and success matter, but neglecting meaningful relationships can lead to long-term regret. Scheduling time with friends is just as important as scheduling work. Deeper connection comes after trust—not before.Small talk isn't pointless; it builds the foundation that allows deeper conversations and stronger friendships to develop. Notable Quotes “Your life will be a collection of the decisions you make—and one of the most important is whether you prioritize your friendships.” “Most friend groups don't fall apart because people don't want to hang out… it's because nobody takes the time to plan anything.” “We don't build trust by offering help—we build trust by asking for help.” Connect with Travis: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travischappell Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travischappell Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@travischappellclips Other: https://travischappell.com  Travis Makes Money is made possible by High Level – the All-In-One Sales & Marketing Platform built for agencies, by an agency.  Capture leads, nurture them, and close more deals—all from one powerful platform.  Get an extended free trial at gohighlevel.com/travis Learn more about your ad choices. Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Brett Harned, founder of the Digital PM Community and the Digital PM Summit, and author of Project Management for Humans: Helping People Get Things Done. Brett has spent years coaching project leaders and helping organizations rethink what project management really is. His core conviction: the human side of the work is not a nice-to-have. It is the work. In this conversation, you'll hear how Brett fell into project management and what early experiences shaped his perspective on people and projects. You'll learn the patterns he sees repeated across teams and industries, practical habits for when projects feel messy or start to drift, and why he believes project management is a leadership role that most organizations still undervalue. Brett also shares his candid take on AI, what it can and cannot do for project leaders, and what advice he would give his younger self. If you lead projects or teams, whether or not you have a PM title, this episode is for you! Sound Bites "Often with PMs, it's finding or receiving or feeling the permission to lead like a human instead of like a machine or a robot." "Projects fail because conversations didn't happen or they happened way too late." "Project management is a leadership role and too often organizations don't see it as a leadership role the way that they should." "Project managers are quietly carrying emotional labor that no one really acknowledges." "You can't earn trust by being invisible." "The role has become less about task tracking and more about judgment, good communication and trust building." "If you call people on your team resources, they have every right to call you overhead." "Slowing conversations down before speeding up the work is like the biggest thing." "Drift isn't usually about effort. It's about misaligned understanding." "AI is not going to replace a really good leader." "AI is great at admin. It's terrible at the leadership stuff. It can't read the room, it can't navigate tension, it can't earn trust." "Say the thing now. Saying something early is almost always safer than saying it too late." "The job of a project manager isn't to absorb chaos. It's to make it a conversation." "Caring about people and building relationships is a skill, and it's a skill that's necessary for this career." Are we overlooking one of the biggest human consequences of AI at work? As organisations race to adopt AI, much of the conversation has focused on productivity, efficiency, and redesigning work. But far less attention has been given to how these technologies may reshape something just as important: the relationships people rely on at work. To unpack this, in this episode of the Digital HR Leaders podcast, host David Green speaks with Connie Noonan Hadley, organisational psychologist, Thinkers50 Radar thinker, and Research Associate Professor at Boston University's Questrom School of Business. Connie has spent decades studying the social experience of work, including the growing challenge of loneliness in organisations. And drawing on her latest research and conversations with senior HR leaders, Connie shares insights on how AI is beginning to influence not just how work gets done, but how people connect, collaborate, and seek support at work. So, tune in to learn: Why loneliness at work remains such a persistent challenge - even in organisations investing heavily in cultureWhat CHROs are prioritising right now as they navigate AI adoption, organisational redesign, and a rapidly shifting external environmentHow employees are already using AI for things they once relied on colleagues for - from career advice to coaching and problem-solvingWhy return-to-office mandates may not solve loneliness in the way many leaders expectPractical ways HR leaders can protect human connection while embracing AI-driven transformation This episode is sponsored by Hibob.
