Clement Manyathela speaks Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Mr. Steve Mabona as angry parents and education activists voice frusrations about the dire situation at Alrapark Primary School in Nigel, where classes have been suspended for three weeks. Parents took drastic action after years of neglect – citing broken windows that injured staff, lingering asbestos, and faulty mobile classrooms that trip power. With education disrupted, pressure is now on Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, who has promised to rebuild the school in 18 months. But for many, the question remains: why did it take a shutdown to get attention? 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. In this Labor Day episode, Brad highlights the history of the holiday in the U.S. and Canada before diving into a brand-new genetic evaluation for Holstein dairy cattle: milking speed. Released in August 2025, this trait provides an objective way to measure how quickly cows milk—expressed in pounds of milk per minute—with the Holstein breed average set at 7 lbs/min.Brad explains how this evaluation was developed using parlor sensor data (not robot milking systems) from over 165 herds and 43,000 cows, making it more accurate than traditional subjective scoring methods used in other breeds. With heritability at 42%, milking speed is a promising selection tool for improving parlor efficiency and labor use.The episode also covers:How milking speed correlates with traits like somatic cell score and mastitis. The range of variation in bulls and what that means for selection decisions. Why milking speed isn't yet included in the lifetime merit index.Practical implications for farmers considering faster vs. slower milking cows.Brad wraps up by reflecting on how this new tool could impact herd management at the Morris research herd and encourages producers to watch for milking speed in future bull proofs.Questions, comments, scathing rebuttals? -> themoosroom@umn.edu or call 612-624-3610 and leave us a message!Linkedin -> The Moos RoomTwitter -> @UMNmoosroom and @UMNFarmSafetyFacebook -> @UMNDairyYouTube -> UMN Beef and Dairy and UMN Farm Safety and HealthInstagram -> @UMNWCROCDairyExtension WebsiteAgriAmerica Podcast Directory

Send us a textCan lasers help to combat hair loss? Tamim Hamid comes from a long line of medicine, but chose to enter the engineering world. However, he still had the instinct to want to help people.Tamim was a NASA engineer, who invented a laser to measure thermoprotection of the shuttles outer shell upon re-entry to the Earth.Lasers were invented in the 60's, and he learned about them in school in the 80's.He then invented a new laser in silicon valley. He found a study on lasers & hair growth, which was recorded in 1965 and tested on mice, which showed that a certain frequency could stimulate hair to grow.Lasers work differently depending on the setting and the frequency. Laser light can stimulate human tissue, specifically hair follicles, and it triggers the mitochondria in the bulge of the hair root. This can extend the anagen phase and stimulate growth in the papilla, along with strengthening the arrector pili muscle.Tamim has now invented the Theradome helmet, which he says is the only FDA approved device in the world that can stop hair loss.Connect with Tamim:InstagramBook Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the showConnect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!

Hey, Hey, Hey Bookshelvers! This week we have another DOGx Special for you. We also have been graced with the presence of, the one and only, Jason Light as this topic is very close to his heart. Every year we have a charity slot at DOGx and this year we've managed to get the wonderful Guide Dogs to do a presentation and demo for us. With that in mind we thought it would be wonderful to have Elli Cavazza, a puppy development advisor for Guide Dogs and Mandy Pike, a guide dog user with her dog, Loney on to talk all things Guide Dogs from both perspectives. The discussion provides a fascinating peek into the world of Guide Dogs, going beyond the public-facing image to explore the detailed, dog-centred approach to training. We find out about Elli's role, which involves training puppy-raisers and ensuring puppies are well-socialized and prepared for their future, as well as Guide Dogs passionate views on their dog-centric and human-centric approach working in unison. We then get Mandy's perspective as a guide dog partner. She shares her journey, from her initial hesitation as a self-proclaimed "cat person" to her profound bond with her current dog, Lonnie. Mandy openly discusses the challenges and triumphs of working with a dog that is a "work in progress," highlighting the importance of trust, communication, and understanding Loney as an individual first and a guide dog second. There are also some real valuable insights from both Ellie and Mandy for the general public. Enjoy! Links:Find out more about Guide DogsDOGx TicketsLink to our Bookstore

President of the New Zealand Association of Language Teachers, Juliet Kennedy, says it's important for Kiwi students to learn another language. "It's also really important that students have a chance to learn other languages, including heritage languages which are spoken in our community - but also world stage languages such as Chinese or French or Spanish or German or Japanese."
