This week, Emily Kircher-Morris sits down with Sol Smith, the founder of the NeuroSpicy Community and author of The Autistic's Guide to Self-Discovery. Sol brings two decades of education, and his lived experience as an Autistic, ADHD, and dyslexic individual, to the discussion. They talk about the complex feelings of imposter syndrome that many neurodivergent adults face - the feeling that life is a stage play where everyone else got the script but you - and the difficulty of masking and unmasking. They also get into the science of how we think, including breaking down the difference between top-down and bottom-up processing, and the tricky world of meta-messages, which can often lead to misunderstandings among colleagues or family. It's a great discussion on communication, identity, and the importance of finding your people. TAKEAWAYS Imposter syndrome often stems from feeling like you are performing a role rather than living authentically. Unmasking is less about revealing a hidden self and more about resuming the development of your personality. Top-down thinkers generalize based on concepts, while bottom-up thinkers build understanding from specific details. Autistic individuals often miss implied "meta-messages" that neurotypical people rely on. Asking for more context is a way to gain clarity, not a sign of defiance. Predictable routines can act as a "neurotypical simulator" to save cognitive energy. Therapists, register now for the continuing education course, Get It Done: How to Help Clients with ADHD (& Others) Improve Productivity. Dr. Ari Tuckman will join Emily for this APA and NBCC approved 1.5 hour continuing education training on Friday, February 6. Sol Smith is the author of The Autistic's Guide to Self-Discovery and the founder of The Neurospicy Community, the largest support network for autistic and ADHD individuals worldwide. A certified autism specialist who is autistic, dyslexic, and has ADHD, Sol brings both personal insight and professional expertise to his work helping neurodivergent people build autonomy and self-understanding. After more than 20 years as a college professor, Sol shifted his focus to coaching and advocacy, creating accessible education and support for the broader neurodivergent community. His engaging speaking style has earned him a global platform, with hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and invitations to lead neurodiversity seminars for major corporations. What happens when you stop numbing, stop performing, and finally face what's been running the show beneath the surface? In this powerful episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius Mirshahzadeh reconnects with Jesse Elder for a raw conversation about sovereignty, emotional excavation, and becoming a whole human being. Jesse shares what led him to step away from business, confront long-standing patterns, and do deep embodiment work that uncovered how anger, sadness, and abandonment have shaped his life and leadership. "Healing is not about improvement of daily functionalities or reduction of symptoms. Healing is deeply relational, cultural, and it's a political act." - Yukako Sortino On this episode of Transforming Trauma, host Emily Ruth welcomes Yukako Sortino, Manager of the Refugee Behavioral Wellness Program at Heartland Alliance Health, for a profoundly moving dialogue on trauma, resilience, and relational healing within refugee and immigrant communities. Drawing from her work in Chicago and her lived experience as an immigrant, Yukako invites listeners to reconsider healing as a collective, nonlinear journey that honors dignity, body, identity, and culture. Yukako illuminates the "triple trauma paradigm"—pre-migration, migration, and post-migration trauma—emphasizing how experiences of displacement and systemic oppression are woven into the fabric of everyday life for many refugees and immigrants. She shares how the NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®) influences her approach as a relational lens, not a rigid method—prioritizing paced, attuned presence, honoring survival adaptations, and centering co-regulation before self-regulation. Through a vivid case study and reflection, she illustrates how micro-interventions, group-based and somatic supports, and culturally rooted practices restore agency and belonging amid ongoing adversity. The conversation also highlights the structural barriers and burnout faced by providers, advocating for rest as an ethical imperative and collective care as essential resistance. Listeners are called to see beyond clinical outcomes, to foster authentic community, and to recognize the vital role of therapist self-care and sustainability. They explore the importance of transformational experiences and how simple gatherings can lead to deeper connections among men. Key Insights Transformational Experiences: Men often seek meaningful experiences that can lead to personal growth and connection. Frank shares how participating in F3 and Warrior Heart boot camps has profoundly changed his perspective on leadership and relationships. Gathering for Brotherhood: The act of gathering, whether for workouts or casual meet-ups, is crucial for building community. Frank emphasizes that men need spaces where they can connect and share their experiences authentically. Authenticity in Leadership: Leaders should prioritize creating environments where vulnerability is encouraged. This can be achieved by moving away from rigid lesson structures and focusing on genuine interactions. Shifting Perspectives: Frank discusses the importance of recognizing limiting beliefs and perspectives that can hinder personal growth. Leaders should help others see beyond their current views to embrace a broader understanding of their purpose. Simplicity in Engagement: Simple gatherings, such as meeting for hot dogs or casual discussions, can effectively draw men together and foster meaningful conversations, making it easier for them to engage with one another. Leadership Applications Focus on Gathering: Latter-day Saint leaders can prioritize creating informal gatherings that encourage connection among men, such as breakfast meetings or service projects, rather than strictly adhering to lesson plans. Encourage Vulnerability: Leaders should model vulnerability and openness in their interactions, creating a safe space for others to share their thoughts and feelings, which can lead to stronger bonds within the group. Challenge Limiting Beliefs: Leaders can facilitate discussions that help members identify and overcome limiting beliefs, encouraging them to explore their divine potential and purpose within the community. In this episode, Brett and Joe finally tackle the topic head-on after 150 episodes of addressing it indirectly. Confessions of a Freebird - Midlife, Divorce, Dating, Empty Nest, Well-Being, Mindset, Happiness
Do your children really know who you are?Not just the mother who managed schedules, emotions, and daily life—but the woman underneath it all?Motherhood shifts in midlife—so do we. Maybe you're navigating an empty nest, single motherhood, or a quieter new chapter—you may find yourself asking deeper questions about identity, inner peace, and how to stay meaningfully connected to the people you love most.In this episode of Confessions of a Freebird, I sit down with Bernadette Catalana, author of Daughter Lessons and mother of two, for a heartfelt and honest conversation about mother–daughter relationships, generational healing, and leading by example.Together, we explore what it means to love our children with intention while staying true to ourselves. Bernadette opens up about the weight of people-pleasing, the emotional realities of single motherhood, and how she carried her own mother's sorrow before consciously choosing to break that cycle. We talk about family dynamics and how generational healing often happens in the most ordinary moments—and why finding happiness isn't something we arrive at, but something we practice along the way. This conversation is for any woman in midlife who is learning how to release old roles, speak her truth, and model emotional freedom for the next generation. In this episode, you'll hear us explore:Why truth-telling is a radical act for women raised to keep the peaceHow personal growth and identity shift in midlife—especially after children grow upWhat it really means to lead by example as a motherHow emotional healing in parents breaks generational trauma from being passed down. In this conversation, Chris Trottie (Trottie Golf) pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to walk away from corporate security, bet on yourself, and build a data-driven golf brand from scratch—all while being a present dad, husband, and serious player. We dig into identity, pressure, energy management, and how to use data and equipment the right way to actually lower your scores instead of just chasing new gear. In this episode, you'll learn: How Chris reinvented himself from tour rep to global brand—and the identity he had to let go of. Why he spent five years quietly preparing his "rope bridge" before finally making the jump. How to use data to build unshakable confidence in your game and your business decisions. The overlooked power of time to think—and why surfing and golf became his "boardroom." How to set realistic expectations on the course using dispersion, not fantasy. Why your clubs should evolve as your handicap drops—and when to get re-fit. How to structure your days, guard your energy, and use "treats" and trips as ROI, not guilt. Get your pencils ready and start listening. P.P.S. Curious to learn more about the results my clients are experiencing and what they say about working with me? Read more here. Instagram: @thegolfhypnotherapist Key Takeaways: Betting on yourself doesn't have to be reckless—you can quietly build the bridge, gather data, and step when the risk becomes irresponsible not to take. Data is the antidote to doubt in both golf and business; when the numbers prove it works, you stop negotiating with your fear. If your equipment isn't evolving as your game improves, your clubs become a bottleneck, not a competitive advantage. Most golfers don't struggle with talent—they struggle with expectations that don't match their actual dispersion and ability. Time isn't your most valuable currency—high-quality energy is, and every late night, drink, or distraction taxes your upside. You can't go far alone; building a trusted team around your strengths multiplies your impact while you stay in your zone of genius. Strategic self-rewards—cars, trips, retreats, club memberships—aren't indulgences, they're symbols and fuel that keep you chasing the next level. Key Quotes: "I realized the only way I was going to unlock my full potential was to back myself—and at some point, not jumping became the bigger risk." "None of the businesses I'm involved in work without me; once I accepted that, every negotiation and decision became a lot clearer." "If your expectations are higher than what the data says you're capable of, you're signing up for constant disappointment and terrible decisions on the course." "I spent five years building a rope bridge into a concrete bridge—by the time I stepped on it, I'd have been an idiot not to go." "You can work three weeks insanely hard and not see a nickel, then have five quiet days and everything hits—that's the reality of betting on yourself." "If you want your name to mean something in this game, you have to risk more than the person who's happy staying on the paved road." "Most people dream of success; the few who actually get it are the ones who wake up, protect their energy, and work hard at it every single day." Send us a textWhat happens when travel becomes more than destinations on a map, and instead becomes a reflection of our shared humanity? In this episode of At the Podium, Patrick Huey sits down with Cole Sjoholm to explore solo travel, self-discovery, and what it means to find belonging in a deeply interconnected world. After more than twenty years in banking and finance, Cole made an extraordinary decision in 2023, to travel solo to all seven continents in a single calendar year. What followed was not a bucket-list journey, but a deeper exploration of identity, perspective, and shared humanity. Learning along his journey that the most meaningful travel experiences are not about destinations, but about who we become along the way. A journey that he detailed in his book, Filling My Bucket - A Year of Solo Travel Across Seven Continents.Throughout the conversation, Cole reflects on moments of growth, the unseen support of those cheering him on, and how choosing grace and perspective in unfamiliar situations reshaped how he views success and fulfillment. He speaks candidly about learning that he was enough, about expanding what he once thought was possible, and about recognizing that life's defining moments are not endings, but beginnings. This episode of At the Podium is a reflection on solo travel, courage, gratitude, and the quiet work of becoming yourself in a world far larger, and more connected, than we often realize.*The beautiful photography featured in this episode was shot by Cole.

In this episode of Life Equals Choices, Choices Equal Life, host Kim Olver continues her conversation on self-discovery with Liz Hansen, owner of Chicago Boudoir Photography. Liz shares her powerful journey from education to photography and explains how boudoir photography can become a deeply transformative experience for women at every stage of life. This candid conversation explores confidence, body image, self-worth, and the courage it takes to step outside your comfort zone. Liz describes how thousands of women have walked into her studio feeling unsure and walked out feeling empowered—not because their bodies changed, but because their relationship with themselves did. Together, Kim and Liz discuss why worth is not earned through roles, achievements, or appearance, but exists simply because you are alive. You'll hear how boudoir photography challenges long-standing cultural beliefs about women's bodies, beauty standards, and who confidence is “for.” Liz explains what actually happens during a boudoir session, how trust and safety are built, and why seeing yourself—unfiltered and unedited—can be a profound act of self-acceptance. This episode also addresses common reasons women choose boudoir experiences, from milestones and new beginnings to healing after loss, illness, or divorce. If you're navigating self-discovery, rebuilding confidence, or learning to honor your inherent worth, this episode offers a refreshing and empowering perspective. It's a reminder that your body is not something to fix, but a vessel that has carried your story—and deserves to be celebrated.Be sure to tune in next week for Part Two of this inspiring conversation.

In this episode of the Medical Sales Podcast, Samuel sits down with Johnny Caffaro to unpack one of the most talked about career pivots in the medical device world. Johnny shares what it looked like to build a personal brand so big on LinkedIn that it drew attention inside Stryker, how weekly legal reviews and pressure to stop posting escalated fast, and why the company ultimately pushed for a mutual separation despite his strong performance. From being handed his severance at a hotel on the day of a course he helped build, to turning that setback into a consulting run where he landed contracts immediately and became a go to connector for surgeons and orthopedic brands, Johnny breaks down the real upside and hidden cost of being the face of the business. He also opens up about burnout, chronic pain, the strain on his marriage and personal life, and the moment he decided to shut everything down and disappear. The conversation takes a deeper turn as Johnny talks about his healing journey, including plant medicine experiences that reshaped his mindset, helped him confront ego, and changed the direction of his life. If you want the truth about personal branding in med sales, career risk, and what happens when your identity outgrows your job title, this episode delivers it. kezében gitár, szívében remény.En: The silence of the evening permeated the Lánchíd where Bence stood; guitar in hand, hope in his heart.Hu: Télen a híd olyan szépen ragyogott, mint valami fényes álom.En: In winter, the bridge sparkled as beautifully as a bright dream.Hu: A Duna lustán hömpölygött alatta, a hideg csípős volt, de a látvány megnyugtató.En: The Duna lazily flowed beneath, the cold was biting, but the view was soothing.Hu: A városi fények messziről ragyogtak, mint apró csillagok egy sötét égbolton.En: The city lights glowed from afar like tiny stars on a dark sky.Hu: Csilla mellette állt, vastag sálat tekerve nyaka köré, és mosolygott, miközben Bence a hangszerét hangolta.En: Csilla stood next to him, wrapping a thick scarf around her neck, smiling as Bence tuned his instrument.Hu: Bence készült valami különlegeset tenni, valamit, ami talán megváltoztathatja a kapcsolatukat.En: Bence was preparing to do something special, something that might change their relationship.Hu: Abban reménykedett, hogy most végre megmutathatja Csillának, mennyire fontos számára.En: He hoped that now he could finally show Csilla how important she was to him.Hu: De mélyen belül rettegett a kudarctól.En: But deep inside, he was terrified of failure.Hu: Hirtelen, a hideg és a pillanat súlya alatt, Csilla feje hirtelen megbillent, térde megrogyott.En: Suddenly, under the weight of the cold and the moment, Csilla's head suddenly tilted, her knees buckled.Hu: Bence riadtan nézte, amint barátja összeesik, a híd kövén térdre roskad.En: Bence watched in alarm as his friend collapsed to her knees on the bridge's stone.Hu: A pánik úgy csapott le rá, mint egy jeges hullám.En: Panic hit him like an icy wave.Hu: Keze remegni kezdett, szíve vadul vert.En: His hands began to tremble, his heart beat wildly.Hu: Valamit tenni kellett, de a fejében összekuszálódtak a gondolatok.En: He had to do something, but his thoughts were tangled.Hu: Bence hezitált.En: Bence hesitated.Hu: Hívja a mentőket, vagy próbáljon meg mindent helyrehozni egyedül?En: Should he call for an ambulance, or try to fix everything on his own?Hu: Csak pár másodpercig tartott, de számára örökkévalóságnak tűnt.En: It only lasted a few seconds, but it seemed like an eternity to him.Hu: Ekkor, mintha az éj sötétjéből érkezett volna, egy autós fényszórói megvillantak az úton.En: Then, as if emerging from the darkness of the night, car headlights flashed on the road.Hu: Gergő, a fáradt mentős hazafelé tartott, amikor meglátta a bonyodalmat.En: Gergő, the tired paramedic, was heading home when he saw the commotion.Hu: Azonnal félrehúzódott, kiszállt az autóból.En: He immediately pulled over and got out of the car.Hu: "Mi történt?" – kérdezte, miközben Bence felé sietett.En: "What happened?" he asked, hurrying towards Bence.Hu: "Segítség, azonnal," mondta Bence, hangján a kétségbeesés árnyéka.En: "Help, right away," said Bence, his voice tinged with desperation.Hu: Gergő gyorsan térdelt Csilla mellé, megvizsgálta őt szakszerűen.En: Gergő quickly knelt beside Csilla, examining her professionally.Hu: Tapasztalt kezei határozottan jártak, hamarosan megnyugtatta Bencét: "Csilla stabil, de el kell vinnem a kórházba."En: His experienced hands moved decisively, soon reassuring Bence: "Csilla is stable, but I need to take her to the hospital."Hu: Bence sóhajtott, a hála hulláma árasztotta el.En: Bence sighed, a wave of gratitude washing over him.Hu: Segített Gergőnek Csillát az autóba tenni.En: He helped Gergő get Csilla into the car.Hu: Ahogy elindultak a kórház felé, Bence ráébredt, hogy nem a gitárja dallamai számítanak.En: As they headed towards the hospital, Bence realized it wasn't his guitar's melodies that mattered.Hu: Hanem a barátság, amit nem szabad figyelmen kívül hagynia.En: It was the friendship that he should not overlook.Hu: Aznap este a hídon nem hangzott fel különleges dallam, de Bence egy fontos tanulságot vitt magával: hogy félelmekkel szembenézve, a barátok értékesebbek, mint a siker.En: That evening, no special melody rang out on the bridge, but Bence walked away with an important lesson: facing fears, friends are more valuable than success.Hu: Ahogy Csilla később a kórházi ágyon felébredt, Bence már biztos volt benne, hogy nem csak egy hang a davakon.En: As Csilla later awoke on the hospital bed, Bence was already sure that he was not just a voice among the masses.Hu: Csillának köszönte az igazi bátorságának felismerését, és Gergőnek az életmentésért.En: He thanked Csilla for helping him recognize true courage and Gergő for saving a life.Hu: Ahogy elbúcsúztak, a híd fényei tovább ragyogtak a téli éjszakában, emlékeztetve Bencét, hogy néha, a legnehezebb pillanatokban, találunk rá arra, ami igazán fontos.En: As they said goodbye, the bridge lights continued to shine in the winter night, reminding Bence that sometimes, in the toughest moments, we find what truly matters. #202 - What if one hard rule could change the way you face everything from headwinds to heartbreak? I sat down with author and adventurer Teri Brown to unpack how a 3,102-mile tandem bike ride across America helped her leave an abusive past, reclaim her voice, and build a set of life rules sturdy enough to carry her through grief.Starting in Astoria and crossing Lolo Pass into Big Sky country, Teri and her husband Bruce pedaled through pandemic uncertainty, logistics stress, and days so hot the road rippled. Riding tandem forced a new kind of honesty: shared cadence, three-count stand breaks, and zero room for simmering resentment. A Dollar General parking lot became a place to name a hurt and move on. Montana gifted them wonder—horses racing uphill beside them, the Milky Way hanging close, and Comet NEOWISE blazing a tail across the night sky. Those moments of awe refueled their grit when flats stacked up and the wind turned cruel.Out of the ride came Ten Little Rules for a Double-Butted Adventure. “Never quit on a bad day” stopped a mid-ride collapse after three flats; “Do hard things” later became a mantra as Bruce faced glioblastoma. Terry read from the book at his bedside; he passed as she spoke those words, a final gift that still gets her up when grief says stay down. The finish line in Washington, D.C. unlocked a deeper shift: the question changed from “Can I?” to “What do I want?” She chose authorship, publishing novels that explore identity, war, resilience, and healing. If you're navigating burnout, rebuilding after loss, or wrestling with self-doubt, this conversation offers practical resilience, relationship tools, and a fresh definition of adventure: bigger than your plans, kinder than your fear, and honest about the work. Listen, share it with someone who needs a push, and tell us: which rule will you carry into your next hill?To learn more about Teri and her books visit www.terimbrown.com and check her out on Instagram @terimbrown_author.Subscribe to the Human Adventure for more human stories of grit and growth, leave a review to help others find the show, and connect with us to keep the conversation going. Live Authentically and Function Effectively in All Areas of Your LifeIn this first-of-its-kind book, Sol Smith combines current research, his personal experience as a late-diagnosed autistic adult, and lessons learned as an educator to show how you can transcend common mischaracterizations, overcome shame, and gain the skills to flourish. Sol knows that neurodivergent people often feel that nothing they have been taught relates to how they experience the world. To resolve this conflict, they try to change or mask who they are, which can cause isolation, depression, and anxiety. He advises the opposite: Understand yourself, accept yourself, and reduce conflict. Designed to help you peel away the shell of inadequacy and self-blame that often comes with neurodivergence, The Autistic's Guide to Self-Discovery offers the necessary tools and knowledge to function effectively at home, at work, and in the wider world.Sol Smith spent nearly two decades as a college professor, always feeling and doing things a little out of step from everyone else, before realizing that his differences had a lot to do with his being autistic. He works with individuals and offers educational seminars about neurodiversity to business and community organizations. He also manages NeuroSpicyCommunity.com, an online community for adult autistics where they can support and learn from one another. Sol lives in Southern California with his wife and four children.www.professorsol.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.

#906. Brianna LaPaglia is back on the pod — and 2025 treated her like the full-on rollercoaster it was. In this episode, she's spilling everything: the fear, the growth, the career pivots, the solo adventures, and all the stuff she's never had the chance to fully explain. We talk the iconic Tarte Turks & Caicos trip, surviving Special Forces (and yes, the pain, sweat, and chaos that came with it), saying goodbye to BFFs and saying hello again to PlanBri Uncut, learning to be alone for the first time in forever, and the kind of self-discovery that hits differently when you've been through a lot. Plus, she's giving us the real talk on dating, life lessons, and what she's bringing into 2026! Real, funny, and totally the Brianna Chickenfry we all know and love— this episode is a vibe you don't want to miss!If you're LOVING this podcast, please follow and leave a rating and review below!
