Kyria Sabin began her journey with Pilates in 1991 while living in Los Angeles and working as an art gallery director. Teaching Pilates was never part of her original path. However, her lifelong interest in fitness led her to eventually catch the bug for Pilates. After attending a workshop with renowned Pilates "Elder" Ron Fletcher, he encouraged her to teach the method, though she initially resisted. Despite her intentions to head to law school, Kyria's passion for Pilates ultimately changed her trajectory, shaping her future as a leading educator in the field. Pete and Kyria continue on to discuss the origins of Fletcher Pilates, the evolution of teacher training, and what sets Pilates apart as a transformative practice with remarkable return on time invested. She opens up about the rigors of Pilates instructor certification, the expansion of Fletcher Pilates' international licensing program, and how the method's focus on quality movement has led to life-changing results for clients of all ages. On international expansion Sabin states, "After we developed the program, we had people coming in from Asia, Europe, South America . . . all wanting to study his [Ron's] lineage of the work. We quickly realized is that we could reach many more people if we sent teachers to those countries." Key themes discussed Growth and evolution of Pilates as a fitness modality. History and legacy of Fletcher Pilates. Intensive process of Pilates instructor certification. International expansion through licensing and teacher training. Impact of group classes and mass-market Pilates studios. Value of in-person Pilates versus online instruction. Pilates benefits for diverse age groups and populations. A few key takeaways: 1. Pilates as a Transformational Practice: Sabin's experience highlights how Pilates isn't just about exercise—it's about quality movement, efficiency, and transformative change in both mind and body. She shares her experiences being a client to realizing the profound physical benefits, describing it as a return on time investment with fantastic results. 2. Rigorous Teacher Training and Legacy: Unlike quick certifications in other fitness fields, becoming a Fletcher Pilates instructor is a comprehensive process that can take up to two years. Sabin emphasizes that students must first experience the work deeply themselves before teaching, underscoring the importance of depth and mastery in the method. 3. Pilates' Global Reach: The growth of Fletcher Pilates worldwide happened both organically and intentionally. Demand from students in Asia, Europe, and South America led to a licensing model, making it possible for people to access quality teaching without always having to travel extensively. This preserves the lineage while also expanding its reach. 4. Pilates for All Ages and Backgrounds: Kyria advocates for Pilates as a lifelong practice accessible to everyone from young people to seniors. She's seen significant improvements in posture, strength, and balance at all ages, and challenges the notion that older adults are limited to just "maintenance." 5. Personal Touch Still Matters: With the continued emergence of online and at-home Pilates offerings, Kyria remains firm on the value of in-person training, especially at the start of someone's practice. She believes the energy, supervision, and personal connection play a significant role in a student's success and safety, calling remote work more supplemental than foundational. Since October 7, access to food in Gaza – and its systematic restriction by Israel – has been the subject of international condemnation. The most recent incident is the killing of dozens of Palestinians attempting to obtain food from an aid distribution centre.Israeli settlers have blocked roads, and aid delivery. Aid convoys and workers have also been targeted with violence. And as of March, Israel established a full scale blockade on aid into the Gaza strip. Today a trickle has been allowed into the territory.International organizations have been warning of famine in Gaza for more than a year. Alex de Waal is the executive director of the World Peace Foundation at Tufts University, and author of ‘Mass Starvation: The History and Future of Famine.' He joins the show for a discussion about starvation crimes, why the weaponization of food during wartime continues, and how famine has proven difficult to prosecute in court. For transcripts of Front Burner, please visit: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/frontburner/transcripts

Bryan Hudson, DMin. hosts an insightful conversation with Denell Howard on Conversations In Focus. Pastor Howard is the founder and director of Evolve International, Inc. The letters E.V.O.L.V.E stands for "Educating for Victory Offering Leadership Vision & Empowerment." Evolve International Inc. is an organization developed solely to grow and develop leaders. Our goal is to inspire African American males to intentionally lead in areas of education, entrepreneurship, civics, and mentoring. The challenges within the Black community are vast and multifaceted, yet we believe we can articulate the solution in one word: leadership. Their work of Evolve International is to engage in the development of the next generation and to empower leaders to evolve by creating supportive environments through the five "C's" of Coaches, Conferences, Clubs, Camps, and The Evolve Education Center. Denell Howard is also Pastor of the Hovey Street church of Christ in Indianapolis, IN. He and his wife, Keisha, have three children and reside in Indianapolis. What I find remarkable and refreshing about Pastor Howard is his authenticity, consistency, and clarity of purpose. He is a man who does not compromise concerning the assignment the Lord has giving him, maintaining a laser focus on empowering young black men, and bringing people from all walks of life together to fulfill that purpose. Robbie Rozelle is back for round two and I think it's safe to say that we are officially off the rails. After passing up lottery tickets to Hamilton at the Public in 2015, Robbie eventually saw it in previews and promptly had an out of body experience, prompting a StubHub debacle the very next day (remember those days?!). Robbie was the creative director of Playbill at the start and eventual astronomical height of Hamilton, so we take a look back on some of the insane fervor of that time and why some of it was probably not very cool (it's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me). Plus, we share stories about being in the room for some very famous on-stage mishaps: breaking the fourth wall in Wicked and Gypsy, a drunk Richard Burton furious that they gave him the curtain during Camelot, Bette Midler mugging with a purse in Hello Dolly!, and the famous Emily Skinner/Linda Eder situation for that one night only performance of Jekyll & Hyde. Andrea Salinas (D-Ore.) is one of four chairs of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, a 93-member group of Republicans and Democrats pledging to fight stigma, improve accessibility, and generally make the country's mental health better. It has been determined that the 45-year-old Egyptian man accused of allegedly throwing explosives into a crowd Sunday in Boulder, Colorado as a pro-Israel group gathered to advocate for the release of Hamas hostages has been in the United States illegally for years. Mohamed Sabry Soliman overstayed his visa and has been charged with a hate crime in what the FBI described as a "targeted terror attack" that left eight people, ages 52 to 88, with burn injuries, including one in critical condition. None of the victims have died. FOX's Eben Brown speaks with Liora Rez, the Founder and Executive Director of StopAntisemitism, who says the terror attack targeted Jews but the same extremist ideology wants the United state destroyed. Closing arguments began last Friday in the government's historic antitrust case against Google. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta has already determined that Google holds an illegal monopoly in internet search and with its ad network. As he considers punishments, which could include forcing the tech giant to sell its Chrome browser, he is also scrutinizing how Google competes in the artificial intelligence market. He is considering limiting how Google can promote its AI model, Gemini, to prevent it from holding back competitors like ChatGPT. Gary Kaltbaum, President of Kaltbaum Capital Management and Fox Business contributor, joins Gerri Willis to discuss the implications of the government's case against Google and why he says the company is being unfairly targeted. Kaltbaum also weighs in on the state of the economy and how the ‘one big, beautiful bill' will impact businesses. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The House of Representatives' budget reconciliation plan, backed by President Trump, is headed to the Senate. The bill touched on nearly every aspect of President Trump's agenda, which Senate Leader John Thune hopes to have passed by July 4, 2025. The budget bill passed through the House with a slim majority, which concerns some Americans that it may face restraint in the Senate. U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) joins the Rundown to discuss the Senate's work on President Trump's reconciliation bill and Republicans' efforts to cut taxes, reduce spending, and create more U.S. jobs. She also describes her own bipartisan bill, which aims to improve childcare affordability and help parents re-enter the workforce. Not many people can say they've climbed to the top of Mount Everest, but FOX News Correspondent Mike Tobin can. Making it to the top is extremely dangerous and requires peak physical abilities. Mike joins the podcast to discuss the accomplishment, why he decided to climb Mount Everest, and what it was like to reach the top. Plus, commentary from Chief National Initiatives Officer at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Chuck DeVore. Learn more about your ad choices.
In this special episode, we examine the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on higher education in America and their implications for the future of US-China academic exchanges. On May 29, the Department of Homeland Security banned Harvard from enrolling international students—a decision that is now being challenged in the courts even as the educational plans of nearly 7,000 students and post-grads are thrown into jeopardy. This announcement comes on the heels of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's announcement last Wednesday that the State Department will start "aggressively" revoking the visas of Chinese students, starting with those with connections to the ruling Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields.David and Jeremiah convene an emergency meeting of the podcast to unpack these developments and how these announcements will affect the future of US-China educational exchanges, America's global influence in higher education, and economic competitiveness.Spoiler alert: They're both quite salty about the subject.

Joshua K. Wright, The NBA's Global Empire: How the League Became an International Powerhouse (McFarland, 2025) During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the Dream Team, a collective of the National Basketball Association's top talent led by Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Charles Barkley, shook up the world as they amazed spectators and opponents on their way to winning gold. Their success introduced the world to the NBA's charismatic superstars and their artistic brand of basketball. Over the next two decades, youth outside of America dreamed of becoming the next Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. The NBA took advantage of its popularity in China by forming lucrative television and streaming deals and opening training academies. By the 2022-23 NBA season, there were 109 international players from 39 countries, a Canadian franchise, and a league in Africa. Today's best players are Africans, Canadians and Europeans like Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. This book presents the history of the NBA's ascension to a billion-dollar global empire, analyzing the globalization of American sports since the end of the Cold War and the dawn of the millennium. How essential is globalization for the NBA to thrive in the 21st century? Do the benefits outweigh the geopolitical controversies associated with being a global brand? Is globalization responsible for a decline in American-born NBA players and declining domestic popularity? These questions and others are answered in this first treatment of the NBA's global reach. Paul Knepper covered the New York Knicks for Bleacher Report. His first book was The Knicks of the Nineties: Ewing, Oakley, Starks and the Brawlers That Almost Won It All. The Trump Administration is cracking down on foreign student visas this week, pausing interviews, announcing plans to increase scrutiny of international students, and even revoking the visas of students from China. Earlier this week, George Washington University Law Professor and FOX News Contributor Jonathan Turley joined Jessica Rosenthal to weigh in on some of these actions and the legal battles they will spark. He also discussed President Trump's ongoing clash with Harvard University and other elite institutions, as well as his threats to withdraw federal funding. We often must cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Despite facing obstacles, House Republicans were able to meet their Memorial Day deadline to pass President Trump's "one big, beautiful bill." Now it's off to the Senate, where Republicans concerned about its impact on the deficit could make modifications that would send it back to the House. Additionally, the White House is preparing to send a rescissions package to Congress — an initiative designed to codify certain spending cuts identified by DOGE. FOX News Digital Politics Reporter Elizabeth Elkind breaks down what all of this means and what's to come. Then, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) discusses his criticisms of the 'one big, beautiful bill' and his plans to investigate the last administration's attempt to cover up the declining mental fitness of former President Biden. According to recent reports, artificial intelligence models may be exhibiting signs of resistance when instructed to shut down. In one case, an AI system even considered blackmailing the engineers who informed it that it was being replaced. Does this suggest AI could one day pose a threat to humans? Earlier this week, Dr. Robert J. Marks, Director of the Discovery Institute's Bradley Center and Professor at Baylor University, joined host Jessica Rosenthal to discuss recent incidents and whether they suggest or prove that AI can eventually act autonomously and harm humans. Dr. Marks explained the capabilities and limitations, as well as why he is skeptical about how independently nefarious AI can be. He also described his optimism about how the technology will improve and be more beneficial. We often must cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Today on Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire interview with AI Expert Dr. Robert J. Marks and get even more of his take on where AI is going. Learn more about your ad choices.
