In the ancient Yererouk Basilica in Armenia, near the border with Turkey, young engineers are using 3D digital technology to scan every part of the building. The aim is to recreate the church on a screen, in full-colour and in three dimensions. This is the digital preservation initiative, created by TUMO, the Center for Creative Technologies, based in Armenia's capital Yerevan. It is training young Armenians to use new technology and also to connect them to their their 2000-year-old Armenian Christian heritage. In 2023, the country lost control of numerous important religious sites, when the province of Nagorno-Karabakh was taken over by neighbouring Muslim Azerbaijan. The mountainous enclave, known as Artsakh to Armenians, has long been a disputed territory between the two countries. Despite the new peace agreement signed recently, the province is still closed to Armenians. International observers using satellite technology say dozens of important Christian sites have been damaged or destroyed. Julia Paul travels to Armenia to find out how drones and lasers are helping young Armenians to connect to and preserve their ancient Christian heritage. This episode of The Documentary, comes to you from Heart and Soul, exploring personal approaches to spirituality from around the world.

In this fascinating episode, Bryan welcomes back longtime friend and nuclear industry veteran Bill Nowicki to discuss a recently released document from DHS and NUSTL that provides new recommendations for HVAC operations during nuclear events. Bill brings over 40 years of nuclear experience, starting as a 19-year-old Navy nuclear operator (after being deemed "not ready for the grill" at Friendly's restaurant) and progressing through various roles, including lead engineer on critical control systems at nuclear facilities. Bill shares his journey from nuclear plant evaluator to leadership trainer, now working internationally to help nuclear professionals develop their skills. His current podcast, "The Nuclear Leader," continues this mission alongside his passion project, "Navigating Mental Illness: Parent Stories." Bill provides an accessible explanation of nuclear reactor operations, using the analogy that "contamination is the poop and radiation is the smell" to help listeners understand the difference between radioactive material and radiation itself. He walks through the three-barrier system in nuclear plants: fuel cladding, reactor coolant system, and containment structures. The discussion covers how fission works, the controlled chain reaction process, and what happens when these systems fail, using examples from Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima to illustrate different failure modes. The episode explores the current nuclear renaissance driven by AI data centers and industrial companies seeking clean baseload power. Bill explains how private industry is now directly funding nuclear projects, bypassing traditional utility structures, with companies like Microsoft and ExxonMobil investing billions in new nuclear facilities. This represents a dramatic shift from the post-Three Mile Island era when nuclear construction essentially stopped in the United States. The core discussion focuses on updated emergency guidance that reverses previous recommendations. Instead of the old "shelter in place and shut off your AC" advice, the new guidance suggests keeping HVAC systems running while eliminating outdoor air intake. This approach recognizes that modern, well-sealed buildings with high-efficiency filtration can provide better protection by maintaining positive pressure and filtering recirculated air rather than allowing uncontrolled infiltration. Bill and Bryan discuss how building characteristics dramatically affect the best response strategy. High-performance homes with tight construction, MERV 13+ filters, and controlled ventilation systems offer significant advantages, requiring only the ability to shut off outdoor air intake. Conversely, older, leaky buildings may still benefit from complete system shutdown to prevent contamination circulation. The conversation highlights how lessons learned during COVID-19 about airborne contamination and filtration directly apply to nuclear emergency preparedness, emphasizing the importance of case-by-case analysis rather than one-size-fits-all approaches. Topics Covered Nuclear industry career paths - From Navy nuclear training to civilian plant operations and leadership roles Basic nuclear physics - Fission process, chain reactions, and the difference between contamination and radiation Nuclear plant safety systems - Three-barrier containment approach and historical accident analysis Current nuclear renaissance - AI-driven power demand and private industry investment in new reactors Emergency preparedness evolution - How COVID-19 research influenced nuclear emergency HVAC guidance Building performance factors - Impact of construction quality, filtration, and ventilation design on safety HVAC system modifications - Importance of outdoor air shutoff capability and high-efficiency filtration Case-by-case response strategies - Why building characteristics determine optimal emergency procedures Podcasting journey - Early days of niche podcasting and building communities around specialized topics Leadership development - International nuclear industry training and professional development Personal stories - Navy submarine experiences and nuclear plant operational challenges   Here is the full document from the DHS: https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2425/ML24250A059.pdf Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? Cuts to healthcare, research, student aid, and small business programs have endangered families and jobs, while environmental protections were rolled back. On this episode of Right on Radio host Jeff is joined by John Brisson of "We've Read the Document" for a wide-ranging news update and analysis of recent political and geopolitical developments. The show opens with the Word on Word segment, where Jeff and listeners choose between two Bible verses — Deuteronomy 31:8 and Isaiah 26:3 — and discuss the role of hope, steadfast mind, and trust in turbulent times. Jeff and John dissect a packed presidential press conference: debates over Trump's health, claims about Operation Warp Speed and its military logistics, and the media narratives around chronic venous insufficiency and heart concerns. They explore allegations linking pandemic programs to deeper operations (Operation Tiberius, Palantir connections), the political theater of the Oval Office (symbolism of ties and when leaders don't wear them), and how predictive programming and choreography shape public perception. The conversation turns to possible preparations for accountability actions: references to “burn bags” and hidden documents, Tulsi Gabbard's remarks, talk of prosecutions and military legal structures (JAG), the specter of martial law and tribunals, and the rhetoric around capital punishment for violence in the Capitol. Jeff and John debate timelines and motives, including a prediction to watch mid-September for consequential developments. International threads include the arrest of El Mayo (Sinaloa cartel), the prospect of declaring Mexico and other nations as narco states, potential military actions in Latin America, and diplomatic theater surrounding a planned Trump meeting with King Charles. They also cover Denmark's recent actions related to COVID operations in Greenland and the broader push to expose global networks tied to trafficking and corruption. Financial and technological shifts are discussed at length: talk of charging George Soros under RICO, Elon Musk's provocative posts, the rumored launch of a Trump-linked stablecoin (World Liberty Financial), and the larger “wealth transfer” narrative tied to AI, robotics, and a nascent digital monetary system — with debate about freedoms, UBI, and the risks of centralized digital control. Throughout, Jeff and John compare differing interpretations — from Trump-as-forerunner to Trump-as-Antichrist — arguing theology, prophecy, and practical consequences while cautioning about who holds power when justice is meted out. The episode closes by inviting listeners to join Right on Radio's Telegram communities and nightly prayer calls, with John sharing where to find his research and channels for continued conversation. In the next 25 years, the International Organization for Migration estimates that one billion people will be displaced from their homes due to climate-related events. From island nations underwater to inland areas too hot and extreme to sustain life, the individuals and communities in these areas will need somewhere new to live. Where will these people go, and how will this mass migration add further pressure to the stability of nations and the world?  In this episode, Nate is joined by environmental and migration historian, Sunil Amrith, to explore the complex history of human movement – and what it reveals about the looming wave of climate-driven migration. Sunil explains how the historical record shows migration has always been a defining feature of human life, not an exception. Together, they examine projections for future migration trends and the urgent need for acceptance, planning, and infrastructure to support the integration of new communities. What lessons can we draw from past environmental crises that forced people to move, and how do today's challenges overlap or differ? How have countries historically responded to large-scale migration, and what long-term impacts did those choices have on their stability and prosperity? Ultimately, how might a more open and welcoming mindset help us face the unprecedented migrations ahead, as well as transform them into opportunities for survival, resilience, and shared thriving? (Conversation recorded on August 14th, 2025)     About Sunil Amrith: Sunil Amrith is the Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History at Yale University, with a secondary appointment as Professor at the Yale School of the Environment. He is the current Henry R. Luce Director of the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale. Sunil's research focuses on the movements of people and the ecological processes that have connected South and Southeast Asia, and has expanded to encompass global environmental history. He has published in the fields of environmental history, the history of migration, and the history of public health. Sunil's most recent book The Burning Earth, an environmental history of the modern world that foregrounds the experiences of the Global South, was named a 2024 “essential read” by The New Yorker, and a “book we love” 2024 by NPR. Additionally, Sunil's four previous books include Unruly Waters and Crossing the Bay of Bengal: The Furies of Nature and the Fortunes of Migrants.    Show Notes and More Watch this video episode on YouTube   Want to learn the broad overview of The Great Simplification in 30 minutes?

Recently, President Trump announced he would crack down on crime in Washington, D.C. On Friday, he met with National Guard troops assisting with law enforcement, where he teased 'straightening out' other major cities like Chicago. Since the crackdown, D.C. has seen a decrease in crime; it has been eleven days since Monday without homicides. Former South Carolina Congressman and former federal prosecutor Trey Gowdy joins the Rundown to break down why police presence helps with crime prevention, the problem with cashless bail, and later Trey shares details about his new mystery thriller novel, "The Color of Death." Fewer couples are calling it quits, as U.S. Census Bureau data shows that divorce rates have been falling across the country, down 40 percent in the past four decades. At the same time that census data show marriage appears to be making a comeback, so what's behind the increase in "I do's"? University of Virginia sociologist and fellow at the Institute for Family Studies Brad Wilcox joins the podcast to explain what's behind the trend of couples staying together and the impact it will have on the future of families in America.
