The platform, led by CEO Paul Allen, uses AI to create a personalized, nonpartisan newsfeed that makes it easier than ever to monitor public officials and engage in civic issues.Paul explained, “We redesigned the site to literally use AI to detect every important topic discussed in every government meeting.” By analyzing over 1.3 million hours of public meetings, Citizen Portal generates bite-sized articles on key issues, giving users a consumable, easy-to-navigate interface resembling a news site. This shift has been a game-changer. Paul shared that the platform has attracted nearly a million users this year alone. The tool addresses a growing demand for transparency and accountability in government while filling a void created by the decline of local newspapers.Unlike platforms driven by ad revenue or partisan agendas, Citizen Portal operates on a subscription model designed to empower its users. “There's no spin, no partisan bias, and no kind of echo chamber,” Paul said. Instead, the platform's algorithm, called BRAIN, tailors content to users' locations and interests, ensuring relevance.Citizen Portal's mission is ambitious yet essential. Paul envisions a world where “it'll be a thousand times easier to become an informed and engaged citizen.” The platform not only provides insights into local schools, city councils, and state legislatures, but also offers actionable steps for users to make their voices heard. For those interested in supporting this social impact initiative, Citizen Portal is raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign. This funding will allow the company to expand its reach and enhance its technology.Paul's vision is clear: to strengthen democracy by making civic engagement easier and more effective. With Citizen Portal, we can all stay informed, get involved, and make a difference in our communities.tl;dr:Citizen Portal uses AI to transform 1.3 million hours of government meetings into actionable news. The platform fills the gap left by declining local newspapers with nonpartisan, customizable newsfeeds.Paul's vision is to empower citizens and policymakers with tools for informed engagement.Citizen Portal is raising capital through regulated crowdfunding to expand its impact and technology.Paul's superpower, insatiable curiosity, drives his passion for creating tools that make information accessible. How to Develop Insatiable Curiosity As a SuperpowerPaul described his superpower as a deep passion for learning and gathering information. “I just have an insatiable curiosity for finding content in libraries, researching archives, [and] finding hidden gems,” he explained. This natural drive to consume and organize information has fueled his success, from co-founding Ancestry.com to leading Citizen Portal. He combines his love of learning with a knack for turning chaotic data into meaningful tools that empower others.Paul shared how his superpower helped him build Citizen Portal. He and his team analyzed millions of hours of government meeting records, transforming vast, fragmented data into actionable, AI-generated newsfeeds. His love for gathering information and creating order enabled him to design a platform that empowers citizens to monitor local governance and engage more effectively.Tips for Developing CuriosityIdentify and lean into your natural strengths using tools like the Clifton Strengths Assessment.Focus on areas that energize and excite you rather than trying to emulate others' strengths.Gather and organize information in ways that help others, amplifying the impact of your efforts.Pursue learning as a lifelong habit by reading, researching, and staying curious about the world.By following Paul's example and advice, you can make insatiable curiosity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfilePaul Allen (he/him):CEO & Board Member, Citizen PortalAbout Citizen Portal: Citizen Portal is a non-partisan, AI-powered platform, with $426,200 in pre-seed funding and a seasoned leadership team, aiming to revolutionize civic engagement, revive government transparency, and transform American democracy. Citizen Portal is on a mission to transform democracy with an AI-powered approach. We are reshaping civic engagement and education by providing Americans with up-to-date, accurate, newsworthy information straight from the source. Citizen Portal utilizes AI to index, transcribe, and summarize meetings and hearings at all levels of government. By providing access to video recordings of school boards, local, state, and federal meetings, Citizen Portal helps to empower citizens, journalists, and advocates to know what is being said by their elected officials and done in their government.Website: citizenportal.aiCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093227401453Other URL: startengine.com/citizenportalBiographical Information: Paul Allen is a visionary tech entrepreneur and evangelist driven by a desire to help individuals live their best lives.Paul has founded eight companies. He calls himself a “platform entrepreneur” since his products are usually built on top of the latest tech platform or wave, such as CD ROM, the World Wide Web, mp3 audio, or Facebook. For the past several years, Paul's focus has been using machine learning and artificial intelligence to help individuals and organizations reach their full potential. In 1990, Paul founded Infobases, whose mission was to digitize and publish the world's most important books on CD ROM with a full-text search engine. This endeavor led directly to Ancestry.com—Paul's best known company—which sought to gather and publish the world's genealogy records, family trees, and memories on the internet to enable everyone to discover their heritage. Over 100 million people have learned about their family history at Ancestry.com.Paul's teams have a history of building viral products. MyFamily.com (1998) attracted millions of users, and for a time, was the fastest growing online community on the web as well as the top photo sharing site in 2000 and 2001. Paul's We're Related app on Facebook (2007-2010) gained more than 120 million users in two and a half years. From 2012 to 2017, Paul worked with Gallup to promote the StrengthsFinder assessment (now called CliftonStrengths) from the Washington, DC headquarters. As the “Global Strengths Evangelist,” Paul helped increase online purchases of the assessment and supported a global community of strengths coaches. Today, more than 30 million people have taken the CliftonStrengths assessment. Paul's most recent creation is Soar.com, a company whose mission—once again—is to uplift humanity. Paul is a strong advocate for using AI in positive ways, specifically to enable individuals to become the best version of themselves. When excellent training is paired with AI generated feedback on actual performance, leaders, managers, founders, and individual contributors can achieve excellence faster than ever before. Soar is an AI Studio that will form more than fifteen separate corporations to bring PURE AI (Personalized Uplifting Responsible Ethical AI) to many fields, including education, faith, government, health, finance, medicine, law, family history, and the workplace. Eventually, Soar will enable people to build and customize their own AI assistant (think of Jarvis from Iron Man or Janet from The Good Place) to help them learn, grow, make better decisions, and maximize their time on Earth. Paul's influence extends beyond entrepreneurship. He's a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, teaching the importance of family stories and personal strengths in shaping one's identity. A lifelong learner, Paul has amassed a vast library of thousands of books. In fact, Paul's dedication to learning extends to his teaching roles in Internet Marketing and Entrepreneurship at Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. He's received numerous accolades, including Ernst & Young Utah Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000 and MarketingSherpa National Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008. Paul is a fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association and was named a Cyber Pioneer in 2010 by the Cyber Law Section of the Utah State Bar. In 2016, he was the honored alumnus of the BYU Humanities College, having graduated in 1990 with a BA in Russian. Most recently, Paul has been featured on The Pulse of AI, The Briefing with Steve Scully, The Business of Learning, and The Adventures in Machine Learning podcasts.Paul and his wife, Christy, reside in Missouri. In this episode, host Pete Moore reconnects with longtime friend and fellow Emory University alum, Marcus Gordon. They dive into the significant evolution of endurance sports over the years, and the business opportunities surrounding the endurance athlete community. Marcus shares his journey from collegiate athlete and marketing professional to passionate triathlete and entrepreneur—highlighting the explosive growth in triathlons, marathons, and ultra events across the globe. Pete and Marcus chat about the gaps in the market for facilities catering specifically to endurance athletes, the concept behind Marcus's upcoming venture Endurance Ohana, and how advances in tech are transforming training and competition prep. They also touch on the importance of community, the power of simulation-based training, and what makes a truly next-level fitness experience for serious endurance enthusiasts. Marcus pulls back the curtain on his exciting plans for a destination-style facility focused on not just performance, but recovery, community, and the full spectrum of an athlete's needs. On 'viral' indoor cycling tech, Gordon mentions, "You'll be able to ride the entire Ironman Hawaii course on your trainer. And except for the wind on your face and the sun glaring down your back, you get every element of that course in terms of being able to see who's in front of you, who's behind you, the elements of going up a hill, coasting down a hill, and so on. We can bring that environment indoors and people love doing that!" Key themes discussed Endurance sports culture and personal journey Growth and popularity of triathlons/ultras Gaps in facilities for endurance athletes Concept and mission Tech integration in training and recovery Community and togetherness as core values Premium experience: Performance, recovery, and social aspects A few key takeaways: 1. A New Kind of Performance Center: Marcus is launching “Endurance Ohana,” a boutique gym and performance center specifically catering to endurance athletes—everyone from 5K runners to Ironman competitors. While traditional gyms have amenities endurance athletes use, none are truly targeted at this community's unique needs. 2. Community and Experience at the Core: The concept centers on the Hawaiian term “ohana,” meaning family and community, emphasizing a supportive, communal environment. It's not just about physical training, but also bringing together passionate individuals with similar goals in a space specifically designed for collective motivation and support. 3. High-Tech, Multi-Disciplinary Training: The facility will also feature cutting-edge options for swimming, arena-style cycling (with advanced indoor trainers, including options to bring your own bike), running, strength, mobility, and top-tier recovery options like cold plunges and saunas. There's a major focus on integrating tech for tracking and simulating real-world race conditions. 4. Training, Recovery & Content Creation: Beyond just equipment, Ohana will offer full support: Nutrition, recovery, strength, mobility, and even social media and content creation resources. The facility looks to be a true “third place” for athletes, complete with recovery lounges and podcast/video studios. 5. A Premium Membership for a Passionate Community: Expect a high-end experience, with membership hovering in the $300+ per month range. This reflects both the deeply invested target audience (endurance athletes already spending heavily on gear and races) and the all-inclusive nature—training, recovery, storage, and community all under one roof. Caroline Livesey is an adventurer, extreme triathlete, ultracyclist, elite gravel cyclist and triathlon and life coach. Caroline started her journey into triathlon while serving with the Royal Engineers in the British Army. After 10 years service she left as a Major in 2013 and pursued a career as a professional triathlete (while working full time as a geotechnical design consultant), originally in Ironman events. In 2019 circumstances conspired to throw her into her first extreme triathlon, Canadaman XTRI. Winning this event was the catalyst for her to work on her mindset and physical adaptations to take on the gruelling climate conditions which are typical for the Extreme Triathlons such as Norseman and Celtman. She has since won numerous extreme events, and has just returned from winning Patagonman in Chile for the second time. Caroline is also an elite gravel cyclist, competing for Team GB at the last two World Championships (where she thinks she was the oldest on the start line by some 20 years). She loves single day UCI gravel races but also ultra distance, and has competed at Badlands (3rd), finished Transcordilleras (Colombia), and completed coast-to-coast across Costa Rica in less than two days. She completed the 1000km Transcordilleras, an 8-day stage race, in February this year. Caroline's husband Mark is a documentary / film maker and they make films about their adventures (YouTube, Amazon Prime - The Brick Session). Their purpose is to provide information and inspiration to others so that they might break down their own false beliefs to take on their own challenges. Caroline and Mark have founded Peak Education Nepal - a charity bringing education to the children of poor families in Nepal who cannot afford to go to school. They became involved in this while in Nepal for an event in 2022, and plan to go back this year to develop the charity and do another mountain trail running adventure. Emma Pallant-Browne is no stranger to competing at the world's biggest races, with multiple IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship podiums – and wins – to her name. But now, she's stepping into a brand-new chapter: pregnancy. So with it being June, Scott Criscuolo & Dave Hall decided to "tweak" the King of the Ring concept and see what would happen if NWA/WCW had the concept, but called it the "Iron Man" tournament! -1989 Starrcade, a tournament instead of the dopey points system with more participants -1991, to clean up the mess of Ric Flair leaving and other Jim Herd foolishness -1995, a fresh heel challenger (or face?) for WCW Champion Hulk Hogan So sit back and enjoy the cosmic journey in time...Through the Looking Glass!
This episode focuses on what happens outside of the comfort zone when you CHOOSE to do the hard thing. Whether that's a workout, a race, or a new experience, Amy and Angela talk about why you should deliberately seek out challenges that humble you, that excite you, and that take you back to being a beginner. To remember the feeling of what it's like to be NEW, to be curious, and to just show up with NO expectations… no time goal, no podium goal. To show up to learn and to have fun. Because sometimes the most challenging experiences are the ones that leave you the most proud.

Stacy Ryan's powerful story is a testament to love, resilience, and the human capacity to heal after profound loss. Her journey began with her own cancer diagnosis at 45, which she survived, followed by her husband John's battle with cancer that ultimately claimed his life in December 2020. Throughout their cancer journey, they demonstrated an extraordinary partnership, supporting each other with deep love and commitment, facing each challenge together with grace and vulnerability. After losing John, Stacy chose to honor his wishes by living her life to the fullest. She channeled her grief into creative pursuits, writing a three-book series about her experiences and launching a podcast focused on her journey through widowhood. Her commitment to healing and personal growth led her to unexpected places, including finding love again with another widower named John, with whom she is now building a new life. In a beautiful tribute to her resilience, she is also preparing to open a yoga and wellness studio in the fall, continuing to pursue her passions and create meaning from her experiences. What makes Stacy's story particularly inspiring is her approach to grief and the healing process. She refused to be defined by her loss, instead choosing to embrace joy, laughter, and new opportunities. Her message is clear: there is no single path through grief, and it's possible to honor past love while creating space for new love and experiences. Her journey demonstrates that life can be “brutally beautiful”—filled with profound pain, yet also incredible hope and renewal.About Stacy:Stacy Ryan embodies resilience, completing an Ironman at 36, surviving cancer at 45, and navigating widowhood at 52. These experiences fuel her work as a self-published author and podcaster, where she shares her journey of life, love, and loss, aiming to help others on similar paths. Her diverse career, from corporate HR to fitness director, laid the foundation for her current endeavors. Her podcast, "My Whole New Life," launched in 2023, followed by her "Whole New Life" three-book series in 2024. Stacy finds joy in motivating others to pursue what resonates with them, whether it's achieving a fitness goal or writing a book, reflecting her belief that anything is possible. Outside of work, she enjoys cycling, yoga, and time with friends and family, creating lasting memories.Thank you to our sponsor: CareScoutLearn more about Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver: https://www.confessionsofareluctantcaregiver.com/** Caregiver Action Network Caregiver Help Desk offers free support to family caregivers via phone, chat, or email Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 7:00 Support the showConfessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Sisterhood of Care, LLC Website: www.confessionsofareluctantcaregiver.com Like us on Facebook! The newest Marvel show to premiere on Disney+ is Ironheart, and we're going to discuss the character at length. Why did Riri Williams become a superhero? What's her connection to Iron Man? How did Leonardo DaVinci recruit her into a secret government spy agency. You know, normal questions about Marvel characters.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we recap our attendance at the Adelaide Mega Toy Fair event. This annual event promotes itself for its long running campaign; but with new organisers this year, how did it actually go? We chat towards what we spotted, what we think needs to be improved & what we scored!! Spoiler alert: Pub Lunch & making a day of it with great friends, is always the overall highlight!! Then Trent does an awesome Toyline Retrospective on the early 80's franchise that was: Blackstar! With a Filmation Cartoon airing first in 1981; then a corresponding Toyline from Galoob in 1983! Featuring the fight between our Hero: John Blackstar against the Evil Ruler: Overlord on the Planet Sagar. This Toyline & franchise actually has more ties to Masters Of The Universe than one may think.... There are some EPIC Beasts, questionable modes of transport & the incredibly sort after Ice Castle Playset - this Franchise really tried hard & its interesting to think in a sliding doors parallel reality - could this have been a more popular franchise than Masters Of The Universe?! Then rounding out the episode, we squeeze a quick round table, around some of our Latest Scores! Also, as mentioned in this ep; be sure to checkout the incredibly comprehensive website from Avon Fox - around all the Vintage style Transforming Robots that aren't Hasbro branded! - www.the-liberator.netSupport the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week we cover the latest in triathlon, starting with a pretty wild story... Oscar Pistorius was on the start list for 70.3 Durban. We break down how it happened, the reaction it sparked, and whether there's any place for him in the sport. Lionel Sanders is back and setting his sights on a big performance in Nice. We talk about his mindset shift and why we'd love to see him go all-in on 70.3 Worlds. Eagleman 70.3 delivered exciting racing, with Sam Long just getting the better of Trevor Foley and Lucy Charles-Barclay holding Chelsea Sodaro at bay from start to finish. We preview Ironman Cairns, where Brayden Currie, Mike Phillips and Jamie Riddle lead the men's field, and Jackie Herring and Hannah Berry are set for a great race on the women's side. There's also a quick look at what to expect from Ironman Austria. To wrap things up, we dive into the PTO Vancouver start lists. The women's race features Taylor Knibb and Lucy Charles-Barclay, with Maya Kingma possibly ready to shake things up. In the men's field, Marten Van Riel looks back to his best, Rico Bogen is riding high after San Francisco, and Jelle Geens adds even more depth.
