What if the most important care in the entire healthcare system is also the most underfunded? While hospitals and inpatient reimbursements rise with inflation, the physician fee schedule has quietly declined roughly 33% in real terms over 25 years — and this year it's facing another cut. In this episode, Jamie Preston sits down with Your Health CEO Matt Staub, just back from Capitol Hill, where he spent a record-setting 95-degree day meeting with seven legislative offices to advocate for physicians, providers, and the patients they serve across rural South Carolina, Georgia, and beyond. What follows is part field report, part reflection on why preventive primary care saves money and lives — and why we plan meticulously for weddings, retirement, and vacations, but treat our own health with a "call us if something happens" approach. In this conversation: Why a 2.5–5% physician fee cut hits frontline rural practices hardest The bipartisan doctors' caucus and the real appetite for reform Why winning can come from a loss — the Kobe Bryant mindset on process over outcome How a Disney ride (Spaceship Earth) reframes humanity's whole story around communication The case for proactive, team-based primary care over reactive sick visits Press play for a conversation about advocacy, communication, and a simple, powerful idea: the change you need to make starts with you.
In this episode of the TCOYD Podcast, Dr. Edelman and Dr. Pettus are joined by pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Jamie Wood, medical director of pediatric diabetes at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and an investigator on the INHALE-1 trial, to talk through inhaled insulin in kids and where it fits in real-world pediatric care. The conversation focuses on the recent approval of Afrezza for children as young as six, and what the INHALE-1 trial actually showed. Dr. Wood walks through the study design, A1C results, lung-function and safety data, and the practical aspects of dosing inhaled insulin in a pediatric population. Rather than positioning it as a replacement for injections or pumps, the discussion centers on finding the right fit for each child's needs, from the newly diagnosed kid with a needle phobia to the teen trying to dose discreetly during a 20-minute school lunch.Dr. E, Dr. P, and Dr. Wood also discuss the everyday realities that shape how this option is used, including the set-dose cartridge sizes, a titration approach refined in clinic, and how families are mixing and matching tools alongside automated insulin delivery. The takeaway is encouraging: there are more options than ever for managing mealtime insulin in kids, and this one may help fill some of the gaps left by injections and pumps.Key Topics • The recent approval of inhaled insulin for children as young as six • How the INHALE-1 pediatric trial was designed • A1C results and what the primary endpoint analysis showed • Continuous glucose monitor (CGM) metrics across the two groups • Lung-function (FEV1) monitoring and pediatric safety • Weight and body mass index (BMI) findings • Why mealtime dosing is a leading unmet need in pediatric type 1 diabetes (T1D) • The set-dose cartridge approach and how it reframes meal sizes • A real-world titration method for inhaled insulin • Managing cough and other practical considerations • Needle phobia and the kids who struggle most with injections • Using inhaled insulin alongside automated insulin delivery (AID) systems • What's coming next, including a smaller cartridge dose and a new-onset trial Subscribe for practical diabetes management tips, technology updates, and treatment breakthroughs that help people with diabetes live healthier, more flexible lives.More diabetes resources:Website: tcoyd.orgBlog: tcoyd.org/blogPodcast: tcoydthepodcast.transistor.fmInstagram: / tcoydFacebook: / tcoydStay connected! In this heartfelt episode of The Spiritual Cupcake Podcast, Candace shares a beautiful conversation with her friend Magda about creating a life and home that feels intentional, soulful, and truly your own. Magda has been lovingly beautifying her forest home — bespokeing every detail, handcrafting spaces with care, personality, and warmth. From the outside, everything looked peaceful and stunning. But then she discovered a martin had made its way deep inside the walls and created a nest hidden within the home. At first, she tried to handle it herself. But eventually, she realized she needed to call in an expert — someone with wisdom, experience, and the ability to help with what was happening beneath the surface. Candace reflects on how deeply this mirrors our own lives. We can style our hair, nourish our skin, decorate our homes, curate our wardrobes, buy beautiful things, and work hard to create lives that look peaceful from the outside. But sometimes, inside us, there are still hidden places carrying old pain, fear, grief, stress, or unresolved emotions quietly nesting in the background. This episode is a gentle reminder that healing is not about perfection. Even the cleanest, most beautiful homes become messy simply from being lived in. The same is true for us. Life happens. Emotions build up. Experiences leave marks. The goal is not to become flawless — it's to become aware. Candace talks about the importance of checking in with ourselves, tending to the hidden rooms within, and allowing ourselves support when needed. Sometimes our own rituals, practices, and self-awareness help us move through things. And sometimes healing asks us to reach out to someone with deeper expertise to guide us through the murky places we cannot navigate alone. This episode is about inner peace, emotional honesty, self-awareness, and creating a life that feels beautiful not just on the outside, but deep within the walls of who we are.

Veterans, corporate burnout survivors and anyone who has ever confused suffering in silence with being strong will find something worth hearing in this one. This episode is for the people who are fine, totally fine, definitely fine... and haven't slept properly in three months.More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/omar-ritterOmar Ritter has lived more than most people will ever face in a lifetime. West Point graduate, Bronze Star recipient, combat veteran from Iraq and Kosovo, twenty-year Wall Street executive, brain tumor survivor. He's also someone who spent years hiding the fact that he was falling apart on the inside while everything looked great from the outside. In this episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart, Omar sits down to talk honestly about PTSD, burnout, identity loss and what it actually took to get better.Omar's breaking point didn't come on a battlefield. It came in boardrooms, in sleepless nights at JP Morgan, in a moment when he left his wife home alone with their week-old baby to go deliver documents to his boss at 3am. He was the guy who always got things done, no matter what it cost him. And that identity, the guy who never cracks, is exactly what nearly killed him.He opens up about his gunner from Iraq, a man who appeared fine on Facebook, who was chatting and checking in, and who then took his own life and the lives of his children after an untreated mental health crisis hijacked everything he was. Omar doesn't sugarcoat it. He calls PTSD what he believes it is: a hijacker in the cockpit of your brain, making you do things the real you never would. The conversation covers what burnout actually looks like versus just being tired or stressed, and why veterans in particular are so reluctant to get help. Omar is blunt about the stigma, but he's equally blunt about the excuses. TriCare covers treatment. Corporate benefits packages cover therapy. You can schedule a session on your lunch break and nobody needs to know. The resources exist. The harder part is deciding you're worth using them. One of the most powerful threads in this episode is the difference between powering through and real resilience. Omar held a gun to his own temple while powering through a job he hated in a city he never wanted to live in. He knows the difference from the inside. Resilience, he says, is bouncing back. Powering through with an untreated mental health condition is just damage accumulating until your body or your brain forces the issue. He also talks about the identity crisis that hits veterans when they leave service and walk into corporate America leading with their rank and their medals, only to find out nobody in the room knows what a combat action badge is or why it should matter to them. The reframe he had to learn was painful but necessary.Omar now teaches accounting and finance at UNC Charlotte, sits on veteran entrepreneur boards, and wrote the book West Point to Wall Street: My Journey to Mental Wellness. His audiobook just dropped. His message is simple: raise your hand, make the call, and deal with the rest once you're healthy. Everything else can wait.

Are anxious thoughts stealing your peace? Do you find yourself trapped in a cycle of worry, perfectionism, or rigid control—sometimes without even realizing it? You're not alone, and you don't have to face this struggle in silence. In this episode, the conversation dives deep into the pervasive reality of anxiety—what it feels like, why so many of us miss the signs, and how faith intersects with mental health. Nichole Suvar shares her own journey, from childhood panic attacks no one could name, to adulthood struggles with shame, perfectionism, and even suicidal thoughts. Hear how finally receiving a diagnosis for anxiety and depression brought relief, clarity, and a path to healing—and how opening up about her struggles helped others around her do the same. A key theme that emerged was how many in our generation grew up lacking language for anxiety ("just calm down" or "don't worry" was the advice), while younger generations often recognize these feelings sooner. The discussion explores practical steps for those overwhelmed by worry—from identifying anxious patterns hiding in everyday life, to learning how to relinquish false control and invite God into the struggle. One concept discussed is the illusion that peace can be earned through achieving the "perfect" body, success, or image. Instead, lasting peace is something we cultivate—not manufacture—by returning to God's original design and practicing true stewardship, not unhealthy control (18:48). If you've ever felt ashamed of your anxiety, doubted your faith because of your mental health battles, or wondered when worry crosses the line into something more serious, this episode will meet you with wisdom, compassion, and hope. You'll come away with fresh insight, tangible tools for daily surrender, and the freeing reminder: You don’t have to hold it all together. Listen in to discover: How to spot hidden anxiety—even if you think it’s “just your personality” The practical differences between worry, concern, and clinical anxiety Why control feels soothing, but never truly delivers peace What “cultivating Eden” looks like in a modern world Why God’s peace isn’t achieved, but received—and how to start seeking it today Connect with Nichole Suvar: Website: livewithintent.org Instagram: @nicolejsuvar Book: I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed (Amazon affiliate link: Tiny portion of your purchase goes to support Compared to Who? ministry.) Christen Horne refers to herself as a nerd, geek and gamer. She's a big fan of reading and loves Star Wars. As an accomplished singer, she received her Masters in Opera Performance. In addition to the entire family being singers and musicians, archery became a big part of their lives as well. When Karla, Christen's mother, was in high school she became the California State Champion Archer and the family still enjoys the sport today. Having a mom that worked wasn't that unusual for Christen. Her mom had been a paralegal for years after completing her associates degree. As the three children were growing up, Karla was leading worship at the local church. They spent a lot of time at the church. But my guest says she enjoyed it because they were always singing. Ms. Horne fondly remembers her mom embracing whatever fun activities the kids would be involved in, including going to water parks and going down the water slides together, playing board games and spending quality time involved with the family. Years ago, Christen was actively involved in her community theatre programs. She fondly retells the story of the production of "Fiddler On The Roof," when her mom and aunt were "volun-told' that they had to play village fathers. There were no other boys/male actors to play the part. They still laugh about it today. Christen considered her mother as being firm yet compassionate when it came to disciplining the three kids. Homework definitely took the priority especially over video games. Homework wasn't done, no one got to play. Christen says "mom was always really good about helping us find the balance in things. Making sure we had time to play and making sure we got our homework done." It wasn't until Christen started to realize that she often hid her emotions, that she started to recall other instances from her childhood that were clearly unhappy. She had suffered from depression at a young age that was left undiagnosed. She felt that her mother was embarrassed when Christen showed her true emotions. Horne shared with me that "through my mental health journey, I've gotten more comfortable being more myself around my mom." Often feeling "this is my fault," Christen often blamed herself and felt that if her mother rejected her, it would be devastating. It's scary to be a young child and not understand complicated emotional situation. Working with coaches on a regular basis has helped Christen tremendously. "You pick one hurt, then move on to another," reflects Horne. Through working with her coaches she says her relationship with her mom is so much better and she's very grateful for all the support. Christen is now working on her fantasy book which features her main character 'Alkara' who's named after mother and who also is an archer. What diabetes technology is actually helping people right now—and how do you figure out what fits best into your life?In this 100th episode of the TCOYD Podcast, Dr. E and Dr. P are joined by diabetes nurse practitioner and educator Rachael Sood, founder of The Diabetes Collective, to talk through the latest updates in diabetes technology and what they're seeing in real-world diabetes care. The conversation focuses on how much diabetes technology has changed over the past few years, from hybrid closed loop systems and CGMs to new developments in sensing and automation. Rather than focusing on one “best” device, the discussion centers around finding the right fit for each person's lifestyle, preferences, and goals.Dr. E, Dr. P, and Rachael also talk about where technology may be headed next, including dual glucose and ketone sensors, more compatibility between pumps and CGMs, and the possibility of systems that require less hands-on work from people living with diabetes. The takeaway is encouraging: there are more tools and options than ever before, and diabetes technology continues to move toward making daily management simpler, safer, and more flexible.Key Topics• Choosing the right insulin pump and CGM• Tubed vs. tubeless pump systems• How lifestyle and personal preference shape technology choices• The latest updates in automated insulin delivery systems• Dexcom G7 10-day vs. 15-day sensors• Abbott's dual glucose and ketone sensor technology• Medtronic's newest technology developments• Real-world conversations patients have about wearing devices• Continuous ketone monitoring and DKA prevention• The future of fully closed loop systems• Why compatibility between pumps and CGMs matters• Technology options for people with type 2 diabetes• Where diabetes technology may be headed next✨ Subscribe for practical diabetes management tips, technology updates, and treatment breakthroughs that help people with diabetes live healthier, more flexible lives.More diabetes resources:Website: tcoyd.orgBlog: tcoyd.org/blogPodcast: tcoydthepodcast.transistor.fmInstagram: / tcoydFacebook: / tcoydStay connected! You know what you should do. You're just not doing it. The gym bag is by the door. The draft is open on your screen. The email's been sitting there for three days. And somewhere underneath all of it is the same quiet assumption running the show: that you have to feel like it first. That motivation comes before action. What if that's backwards? That's the premise behind Morita therapy, and it's the reason this conversation with Gregg Krech might rearrange how you think about getting things done. Gregg is the Executive Director of the ToDo Institute, a Naikan education and retreat center in Vermont.. He is also the author of several books, including: "Naikan: Gratitude, Grace, and the Japanese Art of Self-Reflection," "A Natural Approach to Mental Wellness," "The Art of Taking Action," and "Question Your Life." For nearly thirty years Gregg has been teaching an approach called Morita therapy developed a century ago by a Japanese psychiatrist to treat severe anxiety, and it offers a genuinely different way of dealing with the feelings that stop us. Here's the core of it. When we have a difficult feeling, like anxiety, depression, anger, or the urge to quit, we think we have two options: express it or suppress it. Morita therapy offers a third. Acceptance. You coexist with the feeling, and you take action anyway. In this conversation we get into how you actually build that skill, not as a concept, but as something you train like free throws or piano. We cover why motivation is optional, what the maxim "lead with the body" means, why the smartest people often get the most stuck, and how to use your attention to relieve suffering in real time. We talk about recovering from real setbacks like job loss and divorce, and end on a surprisingly freeing idea about indecision: why what you do after you decide matters far more than the decision itself. Some highlights from the episode: 02:36 Origins of Morita Therapy 06:39 The third options 10:48 Thoughts vs actions 13:31 Purpose and feelings 17:24 Practice restraint and action 21:37 Directors vs actors 24:20 Willpower 27:27 Motivation and optionality 29:09 Lead with your body 30:38 Setbacks 33:29 Attention 35:37 Meditation 41:00 Breath practice 45:31 Resistance 48:24 Exercises over maxims 55:22 Indecision and commitment Enjoy! Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I'm sitting with something that has weighed on so many of us for far too long — the relentless mental noise around food, what I call food chatter, and what it actually takes to quiet it for good. I'm not talking about another meal plan or a new set of rules. I'm talking about what is happening in your brain when the spiral starts, and the two science-backed strategies that peer-reviewed research has proven can interrupt it. We dig into Rumination-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — which sounds clinical but is honestly one of the most practical tools I've come across — and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which teaches you to watch a thought without obeying it, and why that single skill changes everything around food obsession. I also share a story about my sister that still lives in my heart, talk about what my son and the Game of Thrones soundtrack taught me about dropping resistance, and make the case for why sitting down to eat your meal is one of the most underrated acts of self-respect you can give yourself. This episode is grounded in real research, real life, and the kind of honest conversation I hope feels like a walk with a good friend.Quote of the Week: "True silence isn't the complete absence of thoughts; it is the act of stepping back and watching your thoughts without attaching to them or fighting them. Tax season's over. Kids getting out of school. Tariffs, war, graduations, business cycles, household pressure, all hitting at the same damn time. You're tired. You're stretched thin. And you can't figure out why more money isn't quieting the noise in your head.Dr. Preston Cherry is back in the booth, and we went where most people won't go. Financial wellness and mental wellness are not separate conversations. They're the same one. You can't out-earn the inner work. You can't out-hustle the self-audit you've been ducking. And the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it? That gap is you.We get into the honest self-audit (admit, acknowledge, act), the 35,000 decisions you're making every single day, and why your capacity is the most valuable currency you own. Across every income bracket, 32% of Americans think their finances will worsen in 2026. Highest pessimism Bankrate has clocked since 2018. That's not whining. That's the moment we're living in.Dr. Cherry drops one of the most important reframes in the episode: wealth funds wellbeing. Life and money alignment gives you money assignments. Translation, until you do the work to know what you actually value, no amount of income is going to fix what's broken on the inside. It'll just magnify it. More money doesn't solve the problem, but it does fund the solution if you've already done the audit. If you're a first-gen wealth builder, a business owner running on no sleep, or just someone exhausted from carrying decisions nobody else sees, this one is for you. Drill deep, not wide. Stop splitting your capacity across 14 directions. Start with the person in the mirror. If this hit home, drop a comment. Tell me where you're feeling it most. I read every single one.New episodes every week on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Subscribe so you never miss a real conversation.

In today's episode, Gina Ryan steps up her game and delivers some much needed hope and inspiration for all of us who are struggling in today's often highly unpredictable world. I explore how to maintain a sense of hope without falling prey to toxic positivity—allowing ourselves to acknowledge the difficulties we face while still recognizing that there is potential for goodness. This approach encourages grounded optimism, where we can honor both the harsh realities of our lives and the small glimmers of hope that persist.I share insights on why losing hope tends to escalate feelings of anxiety. When we allow hope to fade, our mental narratives often spiral into worst-case scenarios, leading us to feelings of helplessness—an overwhelming state that exacerbates our anxiety. It's essential to be aware of this dynamic as we cultivate strategies to hold onto hope. Inspired by the book "Joy on Demand" by Chae Ming Tan, I emphasize that we can experience significant hardship while still accessing moments of well-being. It's about navigating dual truths: recognizing that “this is hard” while affirming that “there is still something okay here.”Throughout our discussion, I introduce practical strategies for nurturing hope, encouraging listeners to focus on what is still working in their lives, even in challenging circumstances. It's vital to train our minds to acknowledge the good amidst adversity—a central aspect of maintaining a gratitude practice. I also caution against black-and-white thinking, reminding our audience that not everything is as dire as it may seem and that we can learn to appreciate the grey areas of life. This emotional flexibility can cultivate a sense of stability and clarity amidst chaos.#AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #GinaRyan, #AnxietySupport, #MentalWellness, #HopeInUncertainty, #GroundedOptimism, #EmotionalResilience, #MindfulLiving, #StopOverthinking, #AnxietyTools, #TwoTruths, #JoyOnDemand, #MentalHealthMatters, #CalmTheMind, #HealingJourney, #PositiveMindset, #SelfCareDaily, #InnerCalm, #BreakTheCycle, #GratefulHeart, #FindYourPeace, #HopeNotFear, #MentalHealthRecovery, #BreathWork, #SmallWins, #StayConnected, #MindfulnessPractice, #WellnessJourney, #LightInTheDarkness, #PeaceOfMind #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
