We learn about the Selena documentary, and the life, career, and death of the Tejano singer, who was killed by a disgruntled employee. We find out the evolutionary advantage of kissing, which animals do it, how scientists define "kissing," and why it actually could protect us from harm. Susie explains why raccoons might become the next domesticated animals, why they seem to be ushering in their pet era, and why experts are convinced it's inevitable. We discuss the new female test dummy (or smartie as Susie calls her), and why it took so long to get it made, why people still aren't happy, and why it's so expensive to make. We're mad at the Guinness World Book of Records again because of their evolving business model and the schemes they're using to make bank. And Susie talks about the Stiller and Meara documentary, about the comedy duo and their famous son, Ben Stiller, and why despite their fame, they're more relatable than you'd think.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:For 50% off your order, head to https://www.dailylook.com and use code BRAINCANDYGo to https://cozyearth.com and use my code BRAINCANDY for up to 20% off!Get $35 off Aura's best-selling Carver Mat frames - named #1 by Wirecutter - by going to https://auraframes.com and using promo code BRAINCANDY at checkout.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of the Scottish Property Podcast, Nick and Steven sit down with Clark Adam, a 69-year-old property investor with one of the most fascinating life stories ever featured on the show. Former U.S. Senator, former university president, and Senior Fellow at AEI Ben Sasse, joined The Guy Benson Show today to discuss a few stories surrounding falling education standards and collegiate athletics. One story involves new University of California San Diego report showing incoming freshmen lacking basic middle-school-level math skills, which he says reflects a much deeper national problem in education. Sasse and Benson also discussed Harvard's stunning grade inflation and the rise in students at elite schools claiming disabilities to gain academic advantages. Finally, Sasse and Benson discussed the current overcorrections in NIL and the college football playoff system need to be reined in to restore balance so that college sports does not remain a "junior professional sports league." Poet and essayist Carol Ann Davis (Fairfield University) joins Evan Rosa for a searching conversation on violence, childhood, and the moral discipline of attention in the aftermath of Sandy Hook. Reflecting on trauma, parenting, childhood, poetry, and faith, Davis resists tidy narratives and invites listeners to dwell with grief, healing, beauty, and pain without resolution.“I don't believe life feels like beginnings, middles, and ends.”In this episode, Davis reflects on how lived trauma narrows attention, reshapes language, and unsettles conventional storytelling. Together they discuss poetry as dwelling rather than explanation, childhood and formation amid violence, image versus narrative, moral imagination, and the challenge of staying present to suffering.Episode Highlights“Nothing has happened at Hawley School. In this episode, Jethro Jones and Danny Bauer continue their "Reject the Premise" series, challenging common assumptions in education. They discuss the importance of schools partnering with parents, emphasizing that parents are the primary educators and schools should serve as supportive partners. The conversation also rejects the idea that test scores are the sole measure of success, advocating instead for focusing on meaningful inputs and student well-being. Finally, they encourage school leaders to break free from the status quo, embrace innovation, and model positive change, highlighting the value of creativity and adaptability in education.Links:Transformative Principal Episode 490 with Susie WiseMultiple Choice is more than a film- it's a movement LinkedLeaders: You need support. Today we unpack the education experiences of students from the former Soviet Union who have migrated to Canada. My guests are Sarfaroz Niyozov, Stephen Bahry and Max Antony-Newman. For the past few years, they have been working on a research project that has explored the experiences of the high school children with post-Soviet backgrounds in the Greater Toronto Area. The research project strives to improve the education experiences of this under-researched, often misunderstood group of Canadian youth, their parents, and communities who come from the countries of the former Soviet Union. Sarfaroz Niyozov is an Associate Professor in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, where Stephen Bahry is a sessional lecturer. Max Antony-Newman is a lecturer in education at the university of Glasgow. Various articles from their research project will soon published. What does it actually take to move machine learning from experiments into production reliably, responsibly, and at scale? In this episode of Alexa's Input (AI), Alexa talks with Maria Vechtomova, co-founder of Marvelous MLOps and an O'Reilly author-in-progress on MLOps with Databricks. Maria shares how her background in data science led her into MLOps, and why most teams struggle not because of tools, but because of missing processes, traceability, and shared understanding across teams.Alexa and Maria dive into what separates good MLOps from fragile deployments, why shipping notebooks as “production” creates long-term pain, and how traceability across code, data, and environment forms the foundation for reliable ML systems. They also explore how LLM applications are reshaping MLOps tooling, and where the biggest skill gaps still exist between platform, data, and AI engineers.A must-listen for anyone building, operating, or scaling machine learning systems and for teams trying to make MLOps less magical and more marvelous.Learn more about Marvelous MLOps and Maria's work below.LinksWatch: https://www.youtube.com/@alexa_griffithRead: https://alexasinput.substack.com/Listen: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/alexagriffith/More: https://linktr.ee/alexagriffithWebsite: https://alexagriffith.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexa-griffith/Find out more about the guest at:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maria-vechtomova/TakeawaysMaria started as a data analyst and transitioned into MLOps.She emphasizes the importance of tracking data, code, and environment in MLOps.MLOps is a practice to bring machine learning models to production reliably.Good deployment processes require modular code and proper tracking.MLOps differs from DevOps due to the complexities of data and model drift.Education is crucial for bridging gaps between teams in AI.Small steps can lead to better MLOps practices.Scaling MLOps requires understanding the unique data of different brands. The rise of LLMs is changing the MLOps landscape.Effective teaching methods involve step-by-step guidance.Chapters00:00 Introduction to MLOps and Maria's Journey02:11 Maria's Path to MLOps and Knowledge Sharing04:41 The Importance of MLOps in AI Deployments10:12 Defining MLOps and Its Challenges11:38 MLOps vs. DevOps: Key Differences13:00 Overcoming Stagnation in MLOps16:04 Small Steps Towards Better MLOps Practices19:29 Scaling MLOps in Large Organizations21:58 The Impact of LLMs on MLOps23:58 The Shift from Traditional ML to AI Applications26:51 Evolving Roles in AI Engineering28:33 Databricks: A Comprehensive AI Platform31:45 Future of AI Platforms and Regulations34:26 Bridging Skill Gaps in AI Teams38:42 The Importance of Context in AI Development40:40 Foundational Skills for MLOps Professionals45:43 Integrating Personal Passions with Professional Growth47:30 Building Impactful AI Communities

In 2010, I hosted an essay contest. The topic was The Inspiration Connection: How Being Inspired Transforms the Quality and Effectiveness of Our Education. A friend, Jody Jarvis, who lived in Nevada at the time, won. The prize was awesome and was inspired. You will enjoy that story also. You will learn from and appreciate the experience she had, inspiring her boys by being an example for them. Her example made all the difference in the learning experience they had as a family. Enjoy

The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Astronomers have observed the longest-ever gamma-ray burst — a powerful, extragalactic explosion that lasted over seven hours. Rapid follow-up observations with the U.S. Department of Energy-fabricated Dark Energy Camera and the International Gemini Observatory provided crucial information about the possible origin of this extraordinary event and the galaxy that hosts it. Bios: - Rob Sparks is in the Communications, Education and Engagement group at NSF's NOIRLab in Tucson, Arizona. - Jonathan Carney is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studies time-domain astronomy with a focus on tidal disruption events. His research spans the full pipeline of transient discovery and characterization, from developing machine learning models for the forthcoming Argus Array to conducting follow-up observations with NOIRLab telescopes. https://carneyjo.github.io/ We've added a new way to donate to 365 Days of Astronomy to support editing, hosting, and production costs.
