This week, Brandi checks in from her studio at Momma Tish's house, fresh off a Vegas gig where she opened for Diplo and survived every DJ's worst nightmare — the music LITERALLY shut off. HTF? WTF? Thankfully the crowd stayed hyped and an extended “Old Town Road” saved everything. Meanwhile, Wells reports on Santa visiting his country club in peak LA fashion, literally landing a helicopter in the middle of the fairway (touché, Santa). Naturally, this leads to a spirited drinks debate: old fashioned's vs. sugar cookie lattes — which one delivers the worse hangover?Elsewhere, ChatGPT steps in to explain what “9 to 5” actually means (wrong again, TikTok!) and why meteorologists aren't called “weatherologists” which actually feels like a way better option. Audible Originals have officially hijacked Wells' brain, and the episode ends on the eternal holiday question: can you still say “Merry Christmas” without offending anyone? We're not sure, so Happy Holidays to you and yours, YFT fam!

    You're Dead To Me

Dead Funny History: The AztecsJoin historian Greg Jenner for a funny and fascinating family adventure into the world of the Aztecs, an extraordinary civilisation of gods, gold, chocolate and… the odd human sacrifice. The rise of an empire The Aztec Empire thrived in Central Mexico between the 14th and 16th centuries. Greg takes families and children back to Tenochtitlan, the stunning island city that became the Aztec capital. Home to grand pyramids, bustling markets and thousands of temples, it was four times bigger than Tudor London! The Aztecs built their empire through skill, trade and an unshakeable belief in their gods. They worshipped deities of war, water, joy, dreams and even mischief; with a few dramatic rituals to keep them happy.Sacrifice, skulls and sunshine In this laugh-out-loud lesson, Greg explains why the Aztecs offered human hearts to the gods to keep the sun shining, and how their earth goddess, Tlaltecuhtli, demanded regular blood donations. From “flower wars” to giant skull racks, Aztec religion could be extreme, but it was also deeply symbolic and full of meaning. Not all the stories are scary, though. Between the jokes and sound effects, Greg reveals a lively culture where chocolate was money, gold was “sun poop”, and weddings were celebrated with piggybacks and cocoa toasts!Life in Tenochtitlan Greg and the Dead Funny History cast bring the city to life with humour and heart - from the markets full of maize, avocados and chillies, to the matchmakers who literally “tied the knot.” There's even a cameo from the world's first emojis - Aztec picture writing! It's history told with big laughs, smart facts and plenty of family fun, as Greg balances gory moments with the joyful, inventive side of Aztec life. The fall of the Aztecs Of course, not every empire ends happily. Greg tells how Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortés arrived in 1519, bringing war, betrayal and devastating diseases that wiped out much of the Aztec world. It's a sobering but powerful story about bravery, belief and survival.Funny, factual and unforgettable With jokes, sketches and sound design that make history come alive, Dead Funny History – The Aztecs is perfect for curious kids, families and fans of Greg Jenner's clever storytelling. What if everything could just be easy? Does life need to be heard? Ashley begins this episode by sharing that she was woken up on December 12th with this mantra repeating to her for over an hour, "Release the hard, allow it to be easy." As the holiday season approaches and Christmas draws near, Ashley reflects on the unconscious habits, patterns, and roles that quietly add pressure and heaviness to everyday life. She explores what truly makes life feel hard, and gently challenges the belief that effort and struggle are required in order to grow, heal, or move forward. This conversation opens a deeper understanding of what "easy" really means. Ease does not necessarily equal immediate comfort. In fact, choosing ease often asks for change, awareness, and a willingness to step away from familiar but limiting ways of being. Ashley speaks to how ease can feel unfamiliar at first, yet ultimately brings more presence, clarity, and alignment. The episode offers a grounded invitation to move through the holiday season differently — with more intention, softness, and consciousness — while releasing what no longer needs to be carried. It's a reminder that ease is not something to earn, but something to allow. Ashley also shares about The North Node: A Map Back to Yourself, a newly launched six-week live experience and intimate workshop. This container is designed for those who feel called to reconnect with their intuition, gain clarity on their soul's direction, and return home to themselves. Applications are now open, with details shared inside the episode. This episode is a reminder that life does not need to be forced. Ease is available. And choosing it is always possible. * * * * * * * * * * * *  The North Node: A Map Back Home to Yourself : APPLY HERE Attend Ben's Silent Satsang : RSVP Attend Ashley's Solstice Satsang Celebration : RSVP  The GUIDED Membership: Everyday Support for Your Awakening — workshops, live satsang, tools and community all in one place. She bought a home at 26 — with acreage, animals, and no family money. Cynthia's story shows exactly what's possible when you plan ahead, find the right team, and stick with it, even through setbacks. Cynthia started listening to the How to Buy a Home podcast in 2022. Three years later, she closed on her dream property — a $250K home with two and a half acres in Florida. She did it with zero financial help from family, months of prep with a unicorn team, and a plan that accounted for credit, savings, zoning laws, and inspection surprises. Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
Overcoming Depression and S******* Ideation with Bud Kraus

    Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 17, 2025 23:25

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, Avik Chakraborty sits down with Bud Kraus, creator of the podcast Seriously Bud, for a real conversation about living with chronic depression, seasonal affective disorder and suicidal ideation. Bud shares what “silent suffering” looked like for him, why so many people mask pain with humor and what actually helped him move one day at a time. They talk about practical coping tools, getting support without shame, the role of counseling and medication and how purpose and family can shift your relationship with mental health over time. If you're navigating depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts or emotional burnout, this episode focuses on grounded support, honest language and why asking for help is a strength at any age. About the Guest: Bud Kraus is a long-time educator and creator in the WordPress community and the host of Seriously Bud, a human-story podcast exploring life journeys, resilience and reinvention. He speaks openly about his experience with depression and suicidal ideation and how support systems, creativity and meaning helped him move forward. Key Takeaways: Depression can be chronic and still invisible. Bud describes how people often use a “happy face” while privately struggling with mental health. Seasonal shifts can amplify symptoms. He names winter and shorter days as a trigger pattern tied to seasonal affective disorder. Normalize asking direct questions. A pivotal moment came when someone finally asked Bud if he had suicidal thoughts, helping him realize those thoughts aren't “normal” for most people. Progress is usually a small pivot, not a miracle moment. Bud points to finding a trusted professional and structured support as a turning point. Coping can be practical and personal. For Bud, playing guitar created short-term relief and mental transport when the day felt unmanageable. Medication and therapy can be part of a healthy toolkit. He frames both as support options, not moral judgments. Purpose can return later than you expect. Bud ties healing to relationships, family and future joy that felt impossible during darker seasons. If you feel at risk, pause and reach out. Contact a trusted person, a mental health professional or your local emergency number. In the US, you can call or text 988. Back in 2021, we recorded our second ever wrap-up episode for our second play series: Twelfth Night. We both watched two versions of Twelfth Night: Trevor Nunn's 1996 film and She's the Man, then we also each watched an additional version. Kourtney watched the The Globe's 2012 production starring Mark Rylance, and Elyse watched National Theatre's 2017 production featuring Tamsin Greig.  But then, tragedy struck when Kourtney went to edit the episode! The audio files for the majority of the episode were corrupted and could not be used. The only usable audio was the portion of our conversation about She's the Man. So, we released what we could as our "Twelfth Night: Wrap Up" episode.  Since that day, we've dreamed about going back and revisiting the three productions that were lost to technological issues. Today, we are so excited to revisit those productions and share our 2025 thoughts with you.  Shakespeare Anyone? is created and produced by Kourtney Smith and Elyse Sharp. If I were starting my career over today — with everything I now know about ambition, the nervous system, and sustainable success — I would do it very differently. Not because I regret being driven or capable. But because I misunderstood what actually creates long-term performance, clarity, and well-being.In this episode, I'm sharing the five shifts I wish I had made earlier in my career — back when I was running a law practice, raising babies, and equating success with doing more, faster, and better. These aren't productivity tips. They're nervous-system-informed lessons about how high-achieving women can build meaningful careers without sacrificing their health, energy, or peace. What you'll learn in this episode:Why defining success for yourself is the foundation of sustainable ambitionHow saying no more — and saying it faster — protects your nervous system and capacityWhy daily nervous system regulation matters more than discipline or willpowerThe difference between managing your time and managing your energyWhy aligned mentorship changes everything (and why I wish I'd invested sooner)This episode is for working moms who are ambitious, capable, and successful — but quietly exhausted by the way they've been holding it all. If you want to keep your drive while building a career that actually supports your body and your life, this conversation will give you a powerful reframe and a more sustainable way forward.Press play to hear what I'd do differently — and how you can start making these shifts now.Related Episodes:Previous EpisodeThree Keys to Working from Home with KidsFeeling Overwhelmed with Work-Life Balance? 3 Mindset Shifts for Working MomsWorking Mom's Survival Guide: 8 Lessons for Work-Life Balance with Dr. Elizabeth Arleo3 Reasons Your Productivity Hacks Aren't Working (And What to Do Instead)Do You Have These 3 Signs of Mom Burnout? If you're unsure what to post on YouTube going into 2026, you're not alone. The platform hasn't just changed — people's expectations have changed. In this episode, I'm breaking down what's actually working on YouTube right now and why the creators seeing growth aren't chasing trends, viral formats, or flashy editing. They're creating content that feels relatable, story-driven, and grounded in real life. I'll walk you through the shift I'm seeing across YouTube, share concrete examples from different niches (including cooking, real estate, and home décor), and explain why clarity around who you're creating for matters more than ever — whether you have a business or not. If you want more views in 2026 without burning yourself out or turning into someone you're not, this episode will give you a much clearer direction. Show Notes In this episode, we talk about: Why "what worked before" isn't enough going into 2026 The shift from polished, formulaic content to relatable, story-driven videos What viewers are actually responding to right now on YouTube Why clarity around your audience matters — even if you don't have a business The difference between creating helpful content and creating clickable content Real-life examples of what to post in different niches: Cooking and food content Real estate channels Home décor and lifestyle creators How storytelling drives views without feeling salesy Why chasing views alone is exhausting — and what works better long-term Want more support? We explore how emerging technologies like AI, remote diagnostics, and robotics are beginning to influence design decisions and operational planning, creating safer, more adaptive, and human-focused healthcare environments. Whether you're interested in the philosophy of design, future-proofing healthcare infrastructure, or the intersection of technology and empathy, this conversation highlights the practical and visionary approaches shaping hospitals today. Talking Points: Introduction & Context Host sets the stage: the evolution of architecture in healthcare, AI, and technology in shelter and commercial spaces. Brief MIT course on AI and machine learning as inspiration for the discussion. Guest Introductions Rebecca McDonald: 12 years at Parkin Architects, focus on healthcare planning, personal motivation from family experiences in healthcare. Kyle Basilius: Design and planning across the U.S., Denmark, and Canada; current principal overseeing cancer hospital design, philosophy of integrating empathy into architecture. Automation: AGVs and AMRs for logistics and staff support. Potential for remote surgeries, telemedicine, and hub-and-spoke care models. Emergency Department Design Throughput and triage-focused planning: neighborhood-style zones for low, high, and trauma acuity patients. Mental health challenges and patient volume impacts on design. Opportunities for tech integration to improve patient flow and staff experience. Lighting & Environmental Control LED and circadian lighting systems for patient comfort, sleep, and recovery. Flexibility and control for staff and patients. Integration with intuitive interfaces to improve operational workflow and care delivery. Staff Wellbeing & Operational Efficiency Reducing injury through thoughtful design and automation. Leveraging AI and technology to improve staff retention and productivity. Anticipating evolving care delivery models, population growth, and community needs. Emphasis on human-centered design as the core of architectural innovation. This week, special guest Rich Jordan takes us inside a marketing challenge presented by his successful acquisition of home services businesses. Do you keep the legacy names of those businesses to preserve local trust—at the cost of running a fragmented, inefficient marketing operation? Do you take the strongest brand you own and roll it out everywhere, even if it may not translate from one community to the next? Or do you wipe the slate clean and create an entirely new brand to unify the whole operation—knowing that it means walking away from money you've already sunk into branding your biggest location? In a conversation with Shawn Busse and Jay Goltz, Rich walks through how he wrestled with those choices, why he ultimately made the call he did, and what he learned along the way. His takeaways included that there are still people who listen to radio, that an authentic story can compete with private equity, and that it is possible to find a marketing agency that will align its interests with yours.

Bundle up, my spookies—this week's This Week in Horror History digs into Christmas horror movies, winter ghost stories, and festive frights from December 15–21. We're hanging the stockings and turning off the lights as we revisit the classics that made the holidays just a little more terrifying. We kick things off with Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein (1974), a black-and-white horror-comedy love letter to the Universal Monsters era. It proved that audiences were happy to unwrap creepy laughs during the holiday season, turning a modest budget into a massive hit and cementing itself as a cozy winter comfort watch for monster kids everywhere. From there, we head into the snow-choked terror of Bob Clark's Black Christmas (1974)—the grim, stalker-in-the-attic slasher that helped invent the blueprint for holiday horror slashers. Killer POV shots, obscene phone calls, sorority sisters in danger, and a cozy Christmas setting turned sinister make it a must-watch Christmas horror movie for anyone who likes their tinsel tangled with blood. We then unwrap some Christmas horror gaming with the PS1-style indie nightmare Christmas Massacre, where retro graphics, a whispering Christmas tree, and a deeply disturbed killer turn nostalgic winter vibes into something nasty and unforgettable. If you're into indie horror games, lo-fi visuals, and brutally mean Christmas horror, this one belongs on your December playlist. For fans of analog horror and late-night weirdness, we shine a frosty spotlight on Local 58's Real Sleep—a fake infomercial that slowly mutates into something cosmic, invasive, and deeply wrong. It's perfect for those long, cold nights where the TV glow is the only light in the room. Our Deep-Cut Spotlight settles on Ghost Story (1981), a wintry ghost tale about regret, buried secrets, and a haunting that refuses to stay in the past. Legendary performances and snow-dusted atmosphere make it an ideal December ghost story to curl up with while the wind howls outside and the Christmas lights flicker.Along the way, we celebrate horror icons with birthdays this week, revisit the seismic impact of Wes Craven's Scream (1996) as a late-December slasher staple, and build you a Christmas horror watchlist loaded with slashers, ghost stories, analog nightmares, and cold-weather horror comfort films.Where to watch this week's picks (U.S.):Black Christmas (1974) – Currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, Shudder, AMC+ and more, and also free with ads on platforms like Tubi and The Roku Channel. Ghost Story (1981) – Streaming on Amazon Prime Video (including Prime with ads), with digital rent/buy options on Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Christmas Massacre (Game) – Available digitally on Steam, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox, and directly from the Puppet Combo store for PC collectors. Young Frankenstein (1974) – As of this week it's not on major subscription services in the U.S.; your best bet is grabbing a digital copy or Blu-ray from retailers like Amazon and other disc shops. Hit play on this episode of This Week in Horror History for a Christmas horror history lesson you can turn directly into a holiday horror movie night—plus the details on our sponsor's special seasonal deal.Support the show and get a tasty energy drink without the crash at AspireDrinks.com and get 25% off with promo code SPOOKY at checkout!

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noam looked into the cameras as said. "There's no American citizens that have been arrested or detained. We focus on those who are here illegally. And anything that you would hear or report that should be different than that is simply not true and false reporting." That is an outright lie. As but one example, 25-year-old Army veteran George Retes was ARRESTED AND DETAINED, unlawfully and unconstitutionally, a fact that was documented on video.A great pro-democracy, nonprofit organization, Home of the Brave, has release a powerful video exposing and documenting what George Retes suffered at the hands of a lawless Trump administration. One of the most important ways to combat the unconstitutional conduct of Trump and company is to stand up, speak out, and document how Trump's lawless policies are hurting We the People. And that is precisely what Home of the Brave is doing. Glenn sat down with Home of the Brave's Sarah Matthew to discuss the organization's mission. Sarah served as White House Deputy Press Secretary in the first Trump administration but resigned after the Trump-inspired attack on the United States Capitol, and ever since, she has been a vocal critic of Trump.Link to Home of the Brave: www.ofthebrave.org Find Glen on Substack: Glennkirschner.substack.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
