Comedian Steph Tolev joins Adam in the studio to discuss her new Netflix special Filth Queen, the mental toll of online trolls, and unhinged social media comments. They dive into the pressure comedians face over appearances, from nose jobs to iconic stand-up outfits. Steph talks about her podcast tour, a touching letter her dad received, and how her mother wanted her to run their highland dance studio. Plus, she and Adam rant about dumb commercial tropes, Adam pitches a new product idea, they vent about oddly spelled names, and weigh in on the viral clip of Theo Von allegedly shoving a fan.Later, author and commentator Michael Malice calls in to talk about his new book, Not Sick of Winning: A History of President Trump's First 100 Days, and the strange trend of liberal men crossing their legs “like women.” He and Adam dissect the manipulation of language in political discourse, revisit Trump's controversial “China virus” comment, and engage in a thought experiment on the difference between builders and talkers. They also discuss what it would actually take to fix California—and whether New York's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is part of the problem or the solution. In the news, comedian Rudy Pavich stops by to break down some wild headlines. First up, The Simpsons shocks fans by killing off Marge in the Season 36 finale, prompting Adam to reflect on his voice work as Death on Family Guy. Then, they react to Florida's controversial plan to detain migrants in a new Everglades facility dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz”—a low-cost, high-risk detention center surrounded by dangerous wildlife. Finally, they unpack the bizarre saga of disgraced influencer “Liver King,” who was arrested in Texas after posting unhinged videos and challenging Joe Rogan to a fight.Get it on.FOR MORE WITH STEPH TOLEV:INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: @stephtolevNETFLIX SPECIAL: Filth QueenFOR MORE WITH RUDY PAVICH:INSTAGRAM: @rudy_pavichWEBSITE: www.rudypavichcomedy.comFOR MORE WITH MICHAEL MALICE:INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: @michaelmaliceBOOK: Not Sick Of Winning: A History of President Trumps First 100 DaysThank you for supporting our sponsors:BetOnlinetry.drinkbrez.com/CAROLLA/ and use code CAROLLA for a $5 credit and free shipping on your first orderListen to Cocaine Air wherever you get your podcastsHomes.comPluto.tvSIMPLISAFE.COM/ADAMLIVE SHOWS: July 10 - Irvine, CA (Live Podcast)July 11-12 - Covina, CA (4 shows)July 17 - Plymouth, WIJuly 19 - Plymouth, WISee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Tim Kennedy is a decorated Green Beret, former UFC fighter, entrepreneur, and bestselling author known for his relentless drive, outspoken authenticity, and commitment to service. From his upbringing on California's Central Coast to his high-profile military and athletic careers, Tim has built a life defined by grit, discipline, and meaningful connections. He's also the co-founder of Apogee Strong, an organization focused on cultivating resilience and leadership in young men. On this episode we talk about: How Tim's family and upbringing on the Central Coast of California shaped his values and work ethic The importance of surrounding yourself with high-quality people and how to build real friendships as an adult Lessons learned from homeschooling, early independence, and being launched into life at a young age The role of grit, discipline, and consistency in both parenting and professional success Reflections on fatherhood, the emotional journey of watching your kids grow, and why Tim believes family is the ultimate source of fulfillment Why real happiness and meaning come from relationships and service, not just freedom or doing whatever you want The founding of Apogee Strong and how Tim is helping the next generation develop critical life skills Top 3 Takeaways Character Attracts Character: The best way to build a strong network is to be sincere, honest, and real—qualities that naturally attract other high-quality people. Grit and Discipline Are Foundational: Early lessons in hard work, independence, and consistency set the stage for lifelong success, both in family and business. Relationships Are Everything: True fulfillment comes from investing in family and friendships—solving for freedom alone leads to emptiness, but serving others brings lasting happiness. Notable Quotes “The characteristics of being a good human, I think, attract other good humans. If you're a piece of crap, you're going to be surrounded by other pieces of crap.” “Everything about you changes the moment you become a parent. I would burn an entire civilization to the ground to protect that little bag of blood right there. That's mine.” “People started solving for the wrong problem—thinking ultimate freedom comes from doing whatever you want. But real happiness comes from the relationships we build and the people we serve.” Connect with Tim Kennedy: Instagram: @timkennedymm This is just a sneak preview of the episode! As a result of a new ruling by a California appeals court, the people's First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly suffered a setback. The rule of law suffered a setback. Justice suffered a setback. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals left a stay in place, blocking the trial court's order that Trump must turn control of the California National Guard back to Governor Gavin Newsom.Fortunately, the ruling is a temporary/interim ruling and the case is far from over.Glenn discusses some of the unfortunate aspects of this ruling, including how Trump gets to create chaos and confusion in California and then uses that chaos as a pretext to order the military into the streets of California. From a violent East L.A. childhood under an abusive preacher father to stabbing his dad at 16, Joe's rage fueled over 30 audacious bank heists, outwitting the FBI with disguises and body doubles. Solitary confinement nearly broke him, but a transformative correspondence sparked redemption. Now a writer and Hollywood consultant (Baby Driver, Taken), Joe unpacks trauma, toxic masculinity, and the system's role in crafting criminals. Is his redemption real, or is he a pawn in a larger narrative? GUEST: Joe Loya is a former bank robber turned acclaimed writer and Hollywood consultant. Growing up in East L.A. under a violently abusive Christian minister father, Joe's trauma culminated in stabbing his father at 16, igniting a path to crime. In the late '80s and early '90s, he robbed over 30 banks with cunning disguises and high-speed escapes, earning notoriety as California's most elusive outlaw. After two years in solitary confinement, a correspondence with author Richard Rodriguez sparked his transformation. Loya's memoir, The Man Who Outgrew His Prison Cell, and his work on films like Baby Driver and Taken showcase his storytelling, rooted in his youth as a Bible preacher. Featured in The Guardian and CNN, Joe's journey from rage to redemption raises questions about trauma, criminality, and the system's role in shaping both. Joe's remarkable story is the subject of Season Four of the podcast series, The Burden: Get the Moey and Run. Isn't there something feudalistic and demeaning about "worshipping" God? What modern, rational, free and autonomous person would want to do that? And what is "worship," anyway? In this episode, I'm joined by two of California's leading housing champions, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and Senator Scott Wiener, to discuss their bills to reform the state's notorious environmental review law, CEQA. We explore how a well-intentioned 1970s environmental protection has become a tool for NIMBYs, unions, and even oil companies to delay or kill housing projects — and why the politics have finally shifted enough to make progress possible. Cities throughout California have taken different approaches on how to deal with homeless residents. That also includes those dwelling in RVs. While many plans have been slow on yielding results, Berkeley's approach may be the solution that city leaders have been looking for. California legislators have reached a tentative agreement on the state's budget proposal for the coming fiscal year, but its fate hinges on whether Governor Newsom will approve a housing reform plan that lawmakers must submit by Monday. A bill making its way through Sacramento would raise the fee car buyers in California would pay for processing paperwork, by nearly 500 percent. Learn more about your ad choices. Tony Wright joins Ed Opperman to talk about the facts and the fictions behind the now legendary case of the Yuba County Five. He's the author of two comic books and a graphic novel with Source Point Press. Tony is an archivist, father, husband, and a lost soul of rock and roll. When he is not writing, he is spending time with his family or enjoying a good meal. Tony has been featured as a Yuba County Five case expert on the Mopac Audio podcast Yuba County Five and was also featured as a case expert on the Motor Trend TV show Auto/Biography: Cold Case. The book explores the bizarre and tragic 1978 disappearance of Ted Weiher, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, Jackie Huett, and Gary Mathias in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California. Four of these men had intellectual disabilities while one was diagnosed with schizophrenia. On Friday, February 24, 1978, they left the Yuba County, California area in Madruga's 1969 Mercury Montego to attend a basketball game in Chico, California. Four days later the car they were traveling in was found abandoned on a snow-covered road in the mountains of the Plumas National Forest, some 75 miles in the wrong direction from home.Four jurisdictions of law enforcement would investigate and search for the missing men. Psychics were brought in, and there were strange reports of sightings of the five from numerous people. One witness came forward with an incredible story of seeing the men disappear into the forest that night. Yet every lead came to a dead end. About four months after they vanished, four of the five men's remains were found some 12 miles from the car, with one discovered in a US Forest Service trailer with plenty of food and fuel to keep them alive for months.Once described as ‘Bizarre as hell', the case of the Yuba County Five has baffled law enforcement and the families of the missing men for over 45 years. Tony Wright has meticulously researched this case, earning himself the reputation of being one of the foremost authorities on the subject, and his conclusions are likely as close as anyone will come to making sense of this tragedy.Book https://amzn.to/4niUiIkYou can see a virtual presentation at the Houston Public Library about the Yuba County Five case on Saturday, June 28th from 2pm until 3pm CST. It's Wednesday, June 25th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus 313 attacks on Christians in India this year The United Christian Forum has recorded 313 attacks on Christians in India during the first five months of this year. That's over two attacks per day, a trend that has held since 2023. Attacks have risen significantly since 2014 when only 127 incidents were recorded A. C. Michael with United Christian Forum warned, “If this trend is not stopped immediately, it will threaten the identity and existence of the Indian Christian community in its motherland.” Please pray for the persecuted church in India. The country is ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries to be a Christian. 80% of young French Protestants optimistic about future The Protestant Federation of France released a survey of young Protestants in the country. Seventy-seven percent of respondents cited the Bible as their primary source of spiritual information ahead of other sources like discussion groups and digital content. Eighty percent of these young Protestants in France are optimistic about the future compared to 58% of 15 to 30-year-olds nationally. Researchers noted that young Protestants view their faith as not just a personal but also a public commitment. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” Netanyahu commends President Trump for bombing Iran's nuclear sites Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commended President Donald Trump for authorizing the June 22nd “Operation Midnight Hammer” which led to America's bombing of Iranian nuclear sites NETANYAHU: “Congratulations President Trump! Your bold decision to target Iran's nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history. “In Operation Rising Lion, Israel has done truly amazing things. But in tonight's action against Iran's nuclear facilities, America has been truly unsurpassed. It has done what no other country on Earth could do. “History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world's most dangerous regime, the world's most dangerous weapons. His leadership today has created a pivot of history that can help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace. “President Trump and I often say, ‘Peace through strength!' First comes strength, then comes peace.” U.S. strike set back Iran's nuclear program by only a few months The New York Times reports that a preliminary classified U.S. report says the American bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran set back the country's nuclear program by only a few months. The strikes sealed off the entrances to two of the facilities but did not collapse their underground buildings. Before the attack, U.S. intelligence agencies had said that if Iran tried to rush to make a bomb, it would take about three months. After the U.S. bombing run and days of attacks by the Israeli Air Force, the report by the Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that the program had been delayed, but by less than six months. The report also said that much of Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium was moved before the strikes, which destroyed little of the nuclear material. Iran may have moved some of that to secret locations. Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty holds first meeting The Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty held its first meeting last Monday at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Texas Republican Lt. Governor Dan Patrick chaired the meeting which included religious leaders and legal experts. Listen to comments from former U.S. Housing Secretary Dr. Ben Carson. CARSON: “This commission promotes freedom of beliefs and that spiritual aspect of our existence that advances civilization. We will strive to facilitate the maintenance of one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Back in May, President Donald Trump established the commission by executive order to advise him on protecting religious liberty in the United States. Students for Life to give away nearly 400,000 diapers Students for Life of America is planning the largest diaper giveaway this coming Saturday on Capitol Hill. The pro-life group will distribute 392,715 diapers. Each one represents an unborn baby murdered at Planned Parenthood abortion mills, according to its 2022-23 annual report. Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America, said, “While this diaper drive is a large, singular feat, we hope it drives the pro-life movement to keep pushing Congress to defund abortion mills, hold up and encourage mothers and families, and be pillars of Life in their communities.” Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” U.S. giving up 6.3% compared to 2023 A new report from Giving USA found that U.S. charitable giving increased to $592.5 billion in 2024. Total giving was up only 6.3% last year compared to 2023. Adjusted for inflation, it was up only 3.3%. Every type of recipient organization saw an increase in donations in current dollars. However, religious groups were the only ones to see a slight decrease in giving when adjusted for inflation. U.S. Marshals rescued 60 missing children & arrested child predators The U.S. Marshals Service rescued 60 missing children during an operation in Florida this month. The operation also led to the arrests of eight individuals, including child predators. William Berger, U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Florida, said the operation “signifies the most successful missing child recovery effort in the history of the United States Marshals Service. … “The unique part of this operation was the fact that underaged, critically missing children … were not only recovered but were … provided with physical and psychological care. This operation further included follow-up assistance in hopes that these youths will not return to the streets to be further victimized.” 10 Worldview listeners gave $2,132 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $123,500 goal by Monday, June 30th to fully fund The Worldview annual budget for our 6-member team, 10 listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to an anonymous donor who gave $7, Daniel and Abigail in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada who gave $25 as well as Luke in Bastrop, Texas and Glenn and Linda in Palmdale, California – both of whom gave $50. We're grateful to God for John in Kentwood, Michigan who gave $100, Robin in Simsbury, Connecticut who gave $120, and Gena in Youngsville, Louisiana who gave $176. And we were touched by the generosity of Emilia in Greenwood, Missouri who gave $244, Thomas in Spokane, Washington who pledged $30 per month for 12 months for a gift of $360, and Nellie in Caldwell, Idaho who gave $1,000. Those 10 Worldview listeners gave a total of $2,132. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $67,533.55 (People clapping and cheering sound effect) That means by this coming Monday, June 30th, we need to raise a whopping $55,966.45 in just 6 days. That's $9,327.74 per day! We are looking for 9 super donors. Could you give $10,000? Or perhaps you feel the Lord prompting you to become one of 3 businesspeople who could give $5,000? Or one of 5 businesspeople who could contribute $2,500? If so, those donations would total $37,500. Then, we would need another 7 people to pledge $100/month for 12 months for a gift of $1,200. And another 14 people to pledge $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600? Please, go to TheWorldview.com and click on Give on the top right. If you want to make it a monthly pledge, click on the recurring tab. What is the Lord asking you to do? Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, June 25th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Artist Fred Grandy grew up in Oregon with five sisters and one brother. The family also lived in Washington for a time. As an adult, Grandy moved around the country, with stints in California, Louisiana, Kentucky and Virginia. But his last days were spent in Ukraine, volunteering with a group that helped to clear up debris after Russian bombings. His sister, Bend resident Sietska Reed, says he had taken off on an open-ended trip to Western Europe but found himself drawn to Poland and then Ukraine. Reed said her brother felt he was where he needed to be to help Ukrainians in a small but tangible way. Grandy was angry, she said, about President Donald Trump’s embrace of Russia, which invaded Ukraine, and also wanted to represent the many Americans who are horrified by Trump’s actions and demonstrate support for Ukraine’s sovereignty. She says the family was notified last week by the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine that her brother was among those killed in one of the heaviest Russian attacks on Kyiv since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Reed joins us, along with her son Kennith Reed and her brother Jim Grandy to remember Fred and tell his story as they think he would want it told.

In a shocking escalation, Cudahy, California's Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez is caught on video urging violent street gangs—Florencia 13 and 18th Street—to rise up against ICE agents, marking what many are calling an insurrectionist act from within the government. Tara exposes this dangerous alliance between radical Democrats and criminal networks, arguing LA has become a “post-American territory.” Meanwhile, the conversation turns to Iran and the alarming threat of terrorism on U.S. soil, as Trump's mixed messaging raises concerns over America's response to Iran's aggression. Calls grow louder for the U.S. to let Israel finish the fight against the Iranian regime. From local lawlessness to global conflict, this episode paints a grim portrait of a nation at the edge.

Guest: Chris Van Arsdale, Google Climate & Energy Research LeadWildfires aren't just a summer problem anymore. This past January, California faced an unusual and intense wildfire outbreak, with flames ripping through communities and forcing thousands to evacuate. What if we could catch wildfires in their earliest stages, before they spiral out of control? That's the goal of Google's FireSat, a revolutionary satellite system designed to spot fires as small as a campfire and deliver updates every 20 minutes. Today on Weather Geeks, we're talking to Chris Van Arsdale, a leader behind the FireSat project, about how it all works and how they are using AI to help the firefight before it even startsChapters00:00 Introduction to Wildfire Challenges and Firesat03:10 Chris Van Arsdale's Journey to Google and Climate Research06:09 Understanding the Firesat Satellite System09:01 Operational Use and Future of Firesat11:48 The Role of Google in Wildfire Detection15:06 Machine Learning and Data Challenges in Fire Detection18:10 Implications for Firefighting Strategies20:52 Future Data Applications Beyond Fire Detection23:58 Global Interest and Collaboration on Firesat26:49 Environmental and Security Considerations29:59 Sustainability and Future Launch Plans for Firesat32:50 Global Applications and Community Engagement35:56 Final Thoughts on Firesat's ImpactSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Sometimes, in the midst of the nuance, complexity, and confusion of everyday life, it's good to return to first principles. That's exactly what Glenn Packiam has done with his new book What Is A Christian, Anyway? The title of this book poses a simple and obvious question that the modern (post-modern? Post-postmodern?) church sometimes forgets. Packiam reminds us that this question is an old one, and that it has a clear and beautiful answer: The Nicene Creed. This book gently walks the reader through the Nicene Creed, explaining it line by line. In the church I attend, the Anglican Church, we recite the Nicene Creed most Sundays in our service, so I've recited it thousands of times, and I've even studied it. But I found Glenn's new book both intellectually and spiritually nourishing, and I'm glad to have him on the program to discuss it. By the way, this is not the first time I have interviewed Glenn Packiam. To read or listen to my 2019 interview with Packiam, click here. Glenn Packiam is a pastor, author, and practical theologian, who currently serves as the lead pastor of RockHarbor Church, in Costa Mesa, California. Prior to taking on this role, he served as associate senior pastor at New Life Church (newlifechurch.org) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and as the lead pastor of New Life Downtown, a congregation of New Life Church. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm your host Warren Smith. Until next time, may God bless you.
Earlier this month, Film Comment hosted the author Malcolm Harris for a special event celebrating the launch of his latest book, What's Left: Three Paths Through the Planetary Crisis—an invigorating analysis of climate change and the collective solutions required to rescue humanity from it. In addition to being a trenchant public intellectual, Harris is also a dedicated cinephile who often uses movies to make sense of politics and history—something we explored on a 2023 Podcast focused on his previous book, Palo Alto: The History of California, Capitalism, and the World. One film Harris discusses in detail in his latest book is Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun's GriGris. It's a sensuous, suspenseful thriller about a disabled dancer in Chad who takes up petrol smuggling in order to pay for his stepfather's medical expenses. As Harris describes in his book, it's also an incredibly intelligent movie about the life-and-death stakes of the petrochemical industry, especially in the Global South. To dig deeper into Harris's unique attraction to the film, Film Comment Editors Devika Girish and Clinton Krute invited him to present a screening of GriGris, followed by a panel discussion with Harris and Ugandan scholar Anselm Kizza-Besigye. The group dug into movie's alluring classical structure and its explosive conclusion, cinematic portrayals of the climate crisis, and much more.
The U.S. shipped a nuclear reactor to Tehran in the late 1960s. After it cut diplomatic ties with Iran after the Islamic Revolution and during the hostage crisis, Iran turned to Pakistan to keep its atomic ambitions alive. Federal officials aren’t saying how many immigrants they’ve detained. But immigrant advocates say the Adelanto detention center is “bursting at the seams.” Those inside lack access to family members and attorneys. In California, agents claiming to be ICE are wearing masks and refusing to show identification when arresting immigrants. A new bill seeks to make that illegal. Sally Ride was the first American woman in space, and when she died in 2012, her obituary publicly revealed that she was gay. KCRW hears from her partner Tam O’Shaughnessy, plus the director of the documentary “Sally.”

With Republic National Distributing (RNDC) winding down distribution operations in California ahead of September 1 exit and consolidation continuing among craft wholesalers, this week's Brewbound Podcast explores the fallout of both in the Golden State. Ferron Salniker, BevNET spirits editor, and Dave Infante, founder of the Fingers boozeletter, join Brewbound's Justin Kendall and Jessica Infante to look back on how one of the top distributors in the country's California business crumbled, the effect on smaller bev-alc producers in RNDC's book and the trickle-down effect on craft brewers. They also explore multistate distributor Hand Family Companies' entry into the state through the acquisitions of three craft-focused wholesalers – Stone Distributing, Classic Beverage and Scout Distribution in Los Angeles – and the formation of Sunset Distributing. Plus, Brewbound senior reporter Zoe Licata and Justin chat about her recent feature on the hard refresher trend and Gen Z's aversion to carbonated beverages.
