Princess Cruises Hotel General Manager Simona Stumberger was selected to serve in this special role as an ambassador for Princess, because she epitomizes professionalism and always delivers service with a smile.A native of Slovenia where Stumberger studied hospitality management, she began her career at sea in the bar department and further diversified her hotel experience by working in guest services, and hand in hand with the hotel and food and beverage divisions. Stumberger has been with Princess Cruises for nearly five years. The float out completes the first comprehensive phase of construction for Sun Princess which now transitions to focus on building the ship's interiors. The 175,500-ton, 4,300-guest Sun Princess will offer an array of exciting new dining, entertainment and activity offerings, as well as luxurious staterooms and suites across a broad spectrum of categories. The ship will be highlighted by amazing, never-before-seen spaces such as The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, the next-level, brand-iconic Piazza, and three-story Horizons Dining Room that are sure to have everyone talking.Cunard to Launch Silent Discos in Onboard NightclubsYou can dance, you can jive, and you can have the time of your life – in blissful silence – as Cunard is set to launch silent discos aboard its very own dancing Queens. The luxury cruise brand is world-renowned for its glamorous onboard entertainment, but lesser known is the fact that Cunard's Queens are home to some of the liveliest nightclubs at sea.And now, as music lovers across the globe celebrate International DJ Day on 9 March, Cunard has announced that it is introducing silent discos to its iconic late-night venues on selected evenings. The stunning G32 onboard Queen Mary 2 is the biggest of the fleet's nightclubs, which is where you'll find partygoers seeing out the evening in style to the sounds of a live DJ and resident party band.Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, however, are home to the strikingly located Yacht Club, where, if you're looking for a night to remember, travellers dance the night away into the small hours. The introduction of silent discos to these venues is a modern twist on the more established late-night traditions of luxury cruise travel – and is another example of the many immersive onboard experiences offered by Cunard. The concept involves partygoers wearing wireless headphones and dancing to music that is only audible through the headphones. This creates a uniquely entrancing and customisable experience as guests control their own volume and switch between channels to hear different genres of music. This new offering also enables Cunard to take the nightclub proposition out of the main venues and into more unexpected places – transforming areas with parties in the Grand Lobby, on deck or other pop-up locations around the ship. And more...Join the show:If you have a cruise tip, burning question or want to record a cruise review get in touch with us via the website https://thebigcruisepodcast.com/join-the-show/ Guests: Chris Frame: https://bit.ly/3a4aBCg   Chris's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisFrameOfficialListen & Subscribe: Amazon Podcasts: https://amzn.to/3w40cDcApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2XvD7tF Audible: https://adbl.co/3nDvuNgCastbox: https://bit.ly/2xkGBEI Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/2RuY04u I heart Radio:  https://ihr.fm/3mVIEUASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3caCwl8 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2JWE8Tz Pocket casts: https://bit.ly/2JY4J2M Tune in: https://bit.ly/2V0Jrrs Podcast Addict: https://bit.ly/2BF6LnE Hosted on Acast. Because I am absolutely appalled that the first cruise ship passengers to arrive in Lyttelton in more than a decade are being forced to pay US$30 each, that's NZ$51.30, to ride in a cruddy old ex-public transport bus if they want to travel from Lyttelton to Christchurch. That's what passengers on the first large cruise ship to visit Lyttelton in more than 10 years had to pay yesterday for return travel from the portside town to Christchurch's CBD. Another ship carrying 2,600 passengers arrives today. Is this the best way to welcome people to Canterbury? Of course it's not! Not surprisingly, some of the nearly 3,000 people on-board the Celebrity Eclipse which docked yesterday morning thought the same, and didn't bother leaving Lyttelton. They told Newstalk ZB that they thought $51.30 was too much and so they gave Christchurch a miss. They left last night. The next ship arrives today. More people to rip off. If I owned a business in the city and I'd been hanging out for these cruise ships to start arriving again, I would be gutted that this is the way we are welcoming people to Canterbury. That we aren't doing everything we possibly can to get people through the Lyttelton tunnel and into town. Instead, we're expecting these people to pay $51.30 each to travel in an old public transport bus. You know the ones I'm talking about. The old Red Bus buses that have obviously been sold to a private operator, painted over in random colours, no branding on them - Lord knows what they're like on the inside. It's your classic “loser cruiser'. Except, in this instance, it's the cruisers who are the losers. The ones who are prepared to pay this ridiculous fee, anyway. But it's us who are the bigger losers. Our local businesses, the people who work for those businesses - and everyone else who benefits from a thriving city. I get that travelling costs money. And if you've been anywhere in the world, you'll know that if you're a tourist you pretty much have to pay money just to breathe. But this is different. Very different. Because this is a region - and a country - where the tourism sector is on its knees after nearly three years of COVID. And Canterbury, in particular, is a region still recovering from the devastation of the earthquakes. Not just the physical and mental devastation - but the economic devastation too. Because one of the things that came to a grinding halt after the earthquakes, was cruise ship visits to Lyttelton. So what did we do? We thought big. We spent $67 million building New Zealand's first-ever purpose-built cruise ship facility at Lyttelton. We backed ourselves. Just like the businesses that hung in there, as much as they could, with their eye on the day when the ships would come back and we'd welcome thousands of people to Lyttelton and Christchurch and Canterbury once again. We shared the dream that one day we'd get back to how things were and that we'd have people from all over the world pouring into the city and the region again. And yesterday, that day arrived. And what did we do? After all that hope and all that investment, we made it as difficult as possible for the people on the ship to get into the city. We put up a barrier. We thought we'd fleece these people we've been waiting years for. People we desperately need to visit and support our shops and our cafes and our other attractions. And if the Christchurch City Council or its tourism agency ChristchurchNZ tries to tell us that they have no control over what these visitors are being expected to pay to travel on these cruddy old buses from Lyttelton to town and back, and if they say the price was set by the cruise ship companies and it had nothing to do with them - I'll be telling them that they have missed the boat big time on this one. Because if they really have the city and region's best interests at heart, they need to be coming to the party and putting on as many free buses as it takes to get as many of these cruise ship passengers into town. That's why I'm saying today that Christchurch needs to hang its head in shame. Because, at this rate, greed is going to be a bigger threat to our tourism sector than COVID ever was.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

During that time, he excavated one of the oldest known shipwrecks (600 BC). In 2019 Bound stunned the world with his discovery of Admiral von Spee's flagship, Scharnhorst, which had been lost in battle during WWI. That same year Bound was Director of Exploration for the first search to find Shackleton's ship Endurance. The partnership, which kicks off October 26 as Holland America Line completes the recreation of the brand's first-ever sailing from Rotterdam to New York City, features on-board video content across Holland America's entire fleet produced by an Ellis Island researcher, as well as a curated exhibit launching in 2023 at Ellis Island detailing the brand's historical prominence in bringing 1 in 10 immigrants from Europe to the United States. The collaboration will launch with a joint talk between Stephen Lean, director of The American Family Immigration History Center at Ellis Island and Bill Miller, noted cruise historian, detailing the immigrant experience in the late 1800s; the presentation will be available on-demand across all ships within the fleet. Noting the cruise industry's – and particularly Holland America Line's – importance in the immigrant journey from Europe to US, the Foundation will curate an exhibit in its History Center available for visitors from February to April 2023.The cruise line, which was founded in the Netherlands in 1873 as the Netherlands-American Steamship Company, was primarily a carrier of immigrants from Europe to the United States until well after the turn of the century, carrying nearly 2 million passengers to new lives in the New World. Holland America Line was the first to do away with “Steerage class” altogether, renaming it “Emigrants Class” where unlike the competition, guests were served three square meals. It is this level of care and attention to detail – a tradition and hallmark of the brand that has continued to this day – that was the impetus for its nickname at the time: “The Spotless Fleet.” Holland America Line provided everything from doctors and a pre-departure hotel complete with English lessons and classes on American civics to ensure passengers a safe journey to New York; and in fact, 99% of the immigrants carried on the fleet were cleared for entry through Ellis Island, a tremendous feat at the time.Holland America Line began the recreation of its first voyage with a sendoff October 15 from the Netherlands. The ship will sail past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as it arrives in New York City around 7am October 26.Windstar Cruises Partners with Coral Gardeners in TahitiWindstar Cruises has partnered with the Coral Gardeners, a Mo'orea (French Polynesia)-based organization determined to revolutionize ocean conservation and create a global movement to save the coral reefs through reef restoration, awareness activities, and innovative solutions. The team works to grow, plant, and monitor thousands of heat-resilient corals with the goal of bringing life back to the ocean. The three-year partnership begins this month with Windstar's $35,000 donation to Coral Gardeners to adopt coral for all guests sailing with Windstar in French Polynesia for the remainder of 2022.2022 is Windstar's 35th anniversary of sailing in Tahiti/French Polynesia – the longest of any operator in the region. (It's also the only destination where the U.S.-based cruise line sails year-round, giving guests ample opportunity to plan a once-in-a-lifetime visit in any season.) With two ships sailing French Polynesia throughout October, Windstar has been celebrating its 35th season all month long with special events, integration with local dignitaries and artists, and a heightened infusion of local culture both on board and ashore.Guests on the remaining 2022 sailings will receive a small card in their guest room, alerting them to the adoption of coral in their name. In 2023 and 2024, each guest booked on a Windstar cruise in French Polynesia will be presented with the option to adopt a coral for a donation of $35 per person. Unique coral adoption cards for those participating will be placed in their guest room on board.Windstar is confident the majority of guests will choose to donate to help save the reef they are enjoying on their Tahiti cruise.A decade of FUN down under It's been just over two weeks after returning to Australian shores and yesterday Carnival Cruise Line celebrated an incredible 10 years of providing Australians with fun-filled holidays at great value.Kicking off celebrations at Tangalooma, Moreton Island, passengers aboard Carnival Splendor were treated to the party of a lifetime with beach games on the sand, Carnival cupcakes and a giant ‘10 Years in Aus' sandcastle before returning to the ship for her journey home to Sydney.First arriving down under in October 2012, over one million guests have since experienced the fun of a Carnival cruise. RFM certified all six of the cruise line's ships that sail to Alaska following an independent audit.RFM is a third-party certification program for wild-capture fisheries and is aligned with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, the most comprehensive set of international standards and best practices for wild fisheries. The RFM ecolabel includes the seafood product's origin and tells consumers where their food comes from every step of the way — starting with the Alaska fishers and processors and continuing to the cruise line's receipt of product and to the guest's plate.Usage of the RFM logo signifies solid commitment to a distinctive Chain of Custody program that assures buyers and guests their seafood is legally harvested, obtained from responsibly managed certified sustainable fisheries, and can be traced back to its origin.Serving Alaska seafood on Holland America Line ships has long been part of the brand's immersive culinary experiences. On any Alaska cruise, the line serves more than 2,000 pounds of Alaska Salmon, 1,000 pounds of Alaska cod, 800 pounds of Alaska halibut, 500 pounds of Alaska rockfish and more.Holland America Line Reports Positive Results of Cruise Industry's First Long-Term Biofuel Test on Board Volendam at Port of RotterdamHolland America Line completed the cruise industry's first multiweek test of biofuels on board Volendam at Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The 20-day test was conducted in partnership with GoodFuels, a leading producer and supplier of sustainable biofuels for the transportation industry, and Wärtsilä, a global leader in power and propulsion technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine market. The assessment was completed September 7. In the first five days of the test the ship used a mix of 30% biofuel and 70% marine gas oil (MGO) in one of its main auxiliary engines. For the final 15 days of testing, the ship used 100% biofuel. According to GoodFuels, there was a 78% decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions during the final 15 days of trial compared to marine gas oil emissions.Dutch-flagged Volendam was selected for the test since it was located at the Port of Rotterdam, one of the global ports where GoodFuels operates the infrastructure necessary to provide biofuel waterside fueling services. There is no significant difference for the ship's team members in handling regular fuel oil versus biofuel. The use of a “drop-in” biofuel such as the one tested on Volendam requires no shipboard refitting or special equipment. What Are Biofuels? The advanced biofuel is derived from feedstocks that are certified as 100% waste or residue, with no land-use issues and no competition with food production or deforestation.Holland America Line's 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage Returns After a DecadeHolland America Line is continuing to bolster its longer voyages departing from a North America homeport, and the 2024 Grand Australia and New Zealand Voyage is the newest addition. Setting sail from Sydney on 22 October for the 2022-23 season, the award-winning Celebrity Eclipse will be making her debut in the region with a series of curated 3-to13-night itineraries across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.NCL Celebrates full relaunch of 17 ship fleet Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), is celebrating the completion of its Great Cruise Comeback with the sailing of Norwegian Spirit, the 17th and final ship in its fleet to return to service.NCL's return to service after a 500-day pause began with Norwegian Jade's 25 July 2021 sailing from Athens (Piraeus), Greece. Since then, the Brand has systematically relaunched its ships around the world, welcoming guests and crew members aboard its award-winning vessels.Norwegian Spirit, which is sporting an extensive bow-to-stern USD$100 million revitalization, departed 7 May 2022, and will be sailing through the deep blue South Pacific, visiting eight ports in 12 days, with departures commencing from Papeete on the beautiful Island of Tahiti.Norwegian Spirit will then debut in Australian waters for the very first time on 22 December 2022 for her inaugural local sailing season, visiting ports across Australia and New Zealand, marking NCL's return Down Under after an almost three-year interval.During her renovation, Norwegian Spirit now showcases 14 brand-new venues and is now quite unlike any other ship sailing in Australian waters. She boasts a doubled-in-size Mandara Spa complete with Thermal Suite including steam room, sauna, shower experience and luxurious heated-tile loungers; a luxe Ibiza-inspired adults-only pool retreat called Spice H20 that transforms into a cocktail lounge and open-air nightclub in the evenings; and an NCL guest-favourite, Bliss Ultra Lounge, where guests can enjoy a nightcap or dance the night away.A smaller ship at 268 metres long and 10 decks tall, Norwegian Spirit offers a unique intimate onboard atmosphere yet still provides all the amenities travellers know and love from NCL. Guests will find 14 dining options to choose from, each with no set dining times, tables or dress codes; from table top entertainment at Teppanyaki and fine French fare at Le Bistro to contemporary Italian at the all-new Onda by Scarpetta.Taste Testing time' on P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific ExplorerIt is ‘taste testing time' for the crew on P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Explorer as the flagship is prepared for its return to cruising on May 31 with its four-night round trip cruise to Brisbane. And if guests are excited about the beautiful food that will be on offer, they can be assured that the crew love it too. With an array of new dishes on the menu, the restaurant teams are sampling the taste and, very importantly, the vibrant look of the culinary delights soon to be experienced on Pacific Explorer. In a busy ship's galley, instant recognition of new dishes is vital to a smooth operation and to get delicious meals to guests' tables as efficiently as possible. With the main restaurant Waterfront along with specialty restaurants such as Angelo's and Dragon Lady and The Pantry outlets serving thousands of meals each day, it is easy to imagine what a complex task it is.stralia's Pacific ExplorerViking Takes delivery of newest shipViking today announced it has taken delivery of the company's newest ocean ship, the Viking Mars. The delivery ceremony took place this morning when the ship was presented at Fincantieri's shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The Viking Mars will now make her way to Valletta, Malta, where she will be officially named on May 17, 2022—Norwegian Constitution Day—by her ceremonial godmother, Lady Fiona Carnarvon, the Countess of Carnarvon. The ship will then sail itineraries in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and Northern Europe before repositioning at the end of the year for voyages around Australia and New Zealand. For years Viking has offered a variety of ways for its guests to experience life at Highclere Castle, which is the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. Highclere Castle is known as the filming location of Downton Abbey, and Viking became a household name during its sponsorship of the celebrated series MASTERPIECE through the years Downton Abbey aired. Viking Executive Vice President Karine Hagen worked closely with the Carnarvon family to develop Privileged Access Pre/Post Extensions that feature the estate, including the highly-rated Oxford & Highclere Castle and Great Homes, Gardens & Gin extensions, both of which are available for guests on select river and ocean voyages.Lady Carnarvon has also welcomed viewers to Highclere Castle on Viking's award-winning enrichment channel, Viking.TV. In her ongoing series, At Home at Highclere, Lady Carnarvon offers virtual Privileged Access to the historic home and its grounds. In the past two years, she has led more than 20 virtual tours and offered glimpses of life at her home. Additionally, Lady Carnarvon has served as godmother to a Viking Longship, the Viking Skadi, which sails Viking's popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. The delivery of the Viking Mars comes as Viking continues to mark its 25th anniversary. In January 2022, the company launched Viking Expeditions and its first purpose-built Polar Class vessel, the Viking Octantis; in March 2022, the company named eight new European river ships during a special event in Paris. By the end of the year, Viking will have also welcomed a second identical expedition ship, another identical ocean ship, and new purpose-built vessels for the Nile, Mekong and Mississippi rivers. The Viking Mars is the newest ship in Viking's award-winning ocean fleet of identical sister ships.
