THE BETTER BELLY PODCAST - Gut Health Transformation Strategies for a Better Belly, Brain, and Body
Is IBS still running your life - even though you've tried the low FODMAP diet? Are you cutting out more and more foods, following all the “rules", taking probiotics or supplements, and still dealing with bloating, indigestion, and abdominal pain? Or maybe the low FODMAP diet worked at first, but now your IBS symptoms are creeping back in and you're wondering, why did it stop working? If you said yes to any of these questions, this episode is for you. Today, we're talking about one of the most recommended IBS treatments out there: the IBS low FODMAP diet. This was the diet I put myself on in 2015 when my IBS, constipation, and bloating started. It was the diet I followed perfectly for 2 years because it helped reduce my symptoms, but it never fully healed my gut, and every time I tried to reintroduce foods, all my symptoms came rushing back. Now, after working with hundreds of clients with IBS for over 8 years, I've heard this story over and over and over again. So on today's episode, I'm diving into WHY the low FODMAP diet is not working for thousands of people with IBS (likely millions) - and what to do instead to find IBS relief. In today's episode, we'll talk about:What the low FODMAP diet isWho developed itHow the low FODMAP diet for IBS theoretically is supposed to workWhy, for many people, the low FODMAP diet isn't helpingWhat to do instead to find your real IBS causes and get the IBS treatment you need to permanently reverse your IBS Because removing foods isn't the same thing as healing your gut. And if your low FODMAP diet isn't working… there's a reason. Let's go find it. This solo episode from the archives comes from something one of my clients told me about, and it was the same thing I've heard from many women in this community. My client went to a live event-- a personal development sort of conference/retreat. She went alone, and this particular client is, like many people, massively uncomfortable with vulnerability, but really wanted to change and grow, so she did the vulnerable thing by going alone to this event. Everyone around her seemed to be having these massive breakthroughs, and she just... wasn't. I've been there and probably so have you. It's one of the most common and least-talked-about frustrations in personal growth. Today I'm getting into “comparisonitis”, specifically around your personal development journey, and why what you see other people experiencing has very little to do with what's actually available to you. What you'll take away from this episode: Comparing is normal and human and the goal isn't to stop, it's to notice it and get curious instead of staying stuck there Someone else's aha moment is happening through their lens, not yours. The same lesson can land as a 10 for them and a 2 for you, and that doesn't mean you're behind Sometimes you're just not ready and no amount of seminars will force a transformation before its time Most growth isn't seismic, it's small shifts, new tools, and slow perspective changes adding up over time There are seasons in this work. Transformation, healing, action, and rest. You don't have to be in overdrive all the time Stop measuring your journey against someone else's highlight reel and come back to what's actually in front of you. Listen to the episode as I talk more about what to do if you find yourself comparing your personal development journey to someone else's. In this episode, Travis and his producer Eric break down a surprising case study in modern monetization using reality TV personality “Big Ed” from 90 Day Fiancé. While not a traditional guest interview, the conversation highlights how everyday people can turn unexpected exposure into serious income. Through humor, pop culture, and real-world examples, they unpack what makes someone profitable in today's attention economy—and why authenticity and timing matter more than ever. On this episode we talk about: How reality TV stars actually make money (and why it's not from the show itself) The power of platforms like Cameo and monetizing attention at scale Why authenticity is the key to standing out in content and media The dangers of “performing” instead of being real on camera How to capitalize on momentum and maximize short windows of opportunity Top 3 Takeaways Attention is the real asset – The biggest money isn't in the platform (like TV), it's in how you leverage the exposure afterward. Authenticity wins long-term – Audiences can tell when you're forcing a persona. Being real is what creates lasting connection and opportunity. Strike while the iron is hot – When momentum is on your side, double down. Work harder during “winning seasons” to prepare for inevitable slowdowns. Notable Quotes "What made you famous is that you didn't know what you were doing—you were just being yourself." "When things are going well, that's not the time to relax—it's the time to push even harder." "You have to build up your wins so you can survive the seasons when nothing seems to work." In this episode of The Feminine Frequency, Amy Natalie peels back the layers on a topic that is quietly dimming the light of high-achieving women everywhere: the spectrum of burnout. Drawing from her own journey of reaching "peak success" only to feel numb and empty, Amy redefines burnout not just as exhaustion, but as a fundamental disconnection from the body. She invites listeners to move beyond the traditional "rest" cure and instead explore the path of feminine embodiment. By shifting from the "gray scale" of going through the motions to the vibrant, magnetic "Bombshell Energy" that exists within every woman, Amy provides a roadmap for turning up the dial on desire, pleasure, and authentic self-expression.ThemesUnderstanding that burnout isn't just a total collapse; it often looks like "mild" or "moderate" disconnection where life feels functional but flat and "gray."A revolutionary perspective that while the body may need rest, the spirit often requires aliveness—the movement of stagnant life force energy through the body.Moving from the realm of mindset and logic into somatics and the body to unlock a deeper level of magnetism and ease.Reclaiming the term "bombshell" as an internal frequency of confidence and presence rather than an aesthetic standard or a performance for others. How simple shifts—like truly tasting your coffee or dressing for your own sensory pleasure—can begin to repair the connection to your feminine essence.Challenging the normalization of depletion and giving women permission to desire a life that is "turned on" and vibrant, even amidst responsibilities.SPECIAL OFFER:

Imagine having 10 overstuffed boxes of grandma's collections in your living room. That's the story that leads our show from a couple in Florida who received these items as hand-me-downs from a boomer parent trying to clear them out. The article features estate specialist Julie Hall, who says Millennials don't want painted china or antique furniture — they want Pottery Barn and IKEA. When Hall asked her own daughter what she'd want from her house, the answer was, "Just the jewelry". Hall's takeaway? That response gave her permission to let go. We discuss this growing issue in our headline segment before answering a listener's question: "Do you have any advice on giving money to adult children while still living? Giving them some of their inheritance while they are younger and need money more than later in their life when my husband and I pass away." Then we wrap it up with a retired pastor who spends his time diving into a reef tank full of sharks at the Toledo Zoo in our "Retire To Something" segment. ☎️ Schedule a Business Evaluation Call with The Construction Leading Edge Team HERE EPISODE 442: Most construction business owners are managing 20 things at once and wondering why the job still falls apart. They've got good people, solid clients, decent projects — and somehow it still ends in chaos, rework, and fires they didn't see coming. The problem usually isn't the building. It's the handoff. In this solo episode of The Construction Leading Edge Podcast, Todd Dawalt breaks down a framework he calls Nail the Handoff — a simple way to identify the three or four points in every construction project where the most damage happens and where your time and energy will have the greatest return. Drawing on 30 years in construction and work with over 400 companies, Todd walks through each handoff point: customer to contractor, sales to estimating, estimator to subs and suppliers, and pre-construction to operations. At each stage, he shows what breaks down, what it costs you, and what one tool can fix it.

In this deeply honest episode, Justin and Kylie respond to a single mum struggling with her 13-year-old son’s non-compliance, screen battles, disrespect, and emotional shutdowns. Over the past decade, she has partnered with leadership teams at public and high-growth companies to build operating models that support distributed work, enable durable growth, and strengthen resilience. At Virta Health, she built and scaled a fully remote organization recognized by Inc. as a Best Place to Work during a period of rapid expansion. At Patreon, she led the team through hypergrowth, M&A integration, and cultural evolution. Earlier in her career at Yahoo, Lucia designed and implemented analytics and decision-making infrastructure across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. She holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Stanford GSB and brings a systems-driven approach to how organizations operate and evolve at scale. Takeaways: 1. Honesty Is the Most Underrated Employee Benefit Lucia's diagnosis of broken cultures is blunt: a lack of honesty. In an era defined by uncertainty — AI, economic volatility, global instability — employees want leaders and organizations that will be straight with them. Transparency isn't a communication strategy; it's a cultural foundation. 2. Bring Your Customers Into Your Culture Virta Health keeps honesty alive by bringing its patients — the people receiving its treatment — into all-hands meetings, offsites, and board meetings. It's a radical form of accountability that makes it impossible to lose sight of what the organization is actually for. 3. Remote Done Right Is About Trust, Not Tools Flexibility is a genuine benefit — but only if it comes with trust, clear expectations, and a genuine output-over-hours mentality. Lucia's philosophy: I hired you to do a job from anywhere. Get it done. The moment you start monitoring screen time or sending 3 AM emails, you've broken the contract. 4. Know Your Population Before You Design Your Benefits Virta's benefits strategy starts with a simple question: who are our people and what do they need? Their workforce is majority women in their 30s — so fertility benefits aren't a nice-to- have, they're a core part of the value proposition. Benefits designed without demographic insight don't land. 5. Compensation Comes First — Then Benefits Can Differentiate You cannot win a talent war on benefits alone. Market-rate base, bonus, and long-term incentives have to be in place first. Once they are, benefits become the layer that signals culture and meets employees where they are in their lives. 6. Engagement Is the Proxy Metric for Peace of Mind How do you quantify something as qualitative as peace of mind? Lucia's answer: Track engagement before and after benefits changes. Employees who feel supported show up more connected to the organization. That connection is measurable — and it ties directly to retention and performance. 7. The Attrition Argument Wins the Benefits Budget Conversation When employees are in a high-stakes life phase — fertility, family planning, caregiving — and the company doesn't meet them there, they leave. The cost of replacing them is almost always higher than the cost of the benefit. Lucia builds her ROI case on that math, and it works. 8. AI Is Forcing Leaders to Lead With Meaning As AI automates the transactional parts of management, leaders are left with the one thing AI can't provide: genuine human connection and meaning. Lucia sees this as a cause for optimism — organizations that were coasting on process are now being pushed to actually invest in their people. 9. 3 AM Emails Are a Leadership Failure, Not a Work Ethic Signal Managers who send late-night or weekend messages aren't demonstrating dedication — they're demonstrating poor planning and setting a cultural expectation that others shouldn't have to absorb. If urgency is manufactured, the fix is upstream, not a Sunday Slack message. CHAPTERS: 00:00 – Introduction Adam welcomes Lucia Guillory, CPO at Virta Health, and gets a quick overview of what the company does — including their recent breakthrough linking their treatment to extended survival in pancreatic cancer patients. 02:00 – From Isolation to PhD: How Lucia Got Into People Lucia traces her path into organizational behavior through a personal lens — growing up dyslexic and with ADHD, studying people as a way to understand belonging, and ultimately earning a PhD to drive change in organizations. 05:00 – What's Most Broken in Bad Cultures Lucia's direct answer: a lack of honesty. In a world of tariffs, AI anxiety, and geopolitical turbulence, employees want authenticity and transparency above everything else — and it's rarer than it should be. 07:30 – How Virta Bakes Transparency In Virta's unusual approach to keeping honesty at the forefront: bringing patients (members) into all-hands meetings, offsites, and even board meetings — making it impossible to hide what's working and what isn't. 10:30 – Remote Done Right What it actually means to be a fully remote organization: output over hours, trust over monitoring, flexibility as a genuine benefit, and clear communication as the operating system that holds it all together. 13:30 – The 3 AM Email Problem Lucia's take on managers who send emails at 3 AM or on weekends: it's a leadership failure, not a badge of honor — and employees have to vote with their feet if that's the culture. 16:00 – Total Comp: Where Benefits Fit In You can't win on benefits alone — market compensation has to be there first. But once it is, benefits become the differentiator. Lucia's framework: know your population and design accordingly. 18:30 – Fertility Benefits & Knowing Your Workforce Why Virta chose Carrot as their fertility benefits platform — and how understanding that their workforce is majority women in their 30s made this an obvious, high-impact investment across the full spectrum of family planning. 21:30 – Measuring the ROI of Peace of Mind How do you put a number on peace of mind? Lucia's answer: track engagement. Benefits that reduce stress and meet employees where they are show up directly in engagement scores — and engagement ties to retention and performance. 24:00 – Linking Benefits to Attrition The business case Lucia makes to finance: when employees are in a critical life phase — fertility, family planning, caregiving — failing to meet them there drives attrition. The cost of that attrition is measurable. The cost of the benefit usually isn't. 26:30 – What's Lighting Lucia Up: AI & the Return of Meaning Lucia's optimistic take on the AI moment: as transactional management gets automated away, leaders are being forced to show up with something AI can't provide — meaning, connection, and genuine investment in their people.
St. Peter says we are a priestly people who offer spiritual sacrifices to God. What does it mean to have a "priestly soul"? How can we make our hearts altars of a burning love of God? How can we be mediators and peacemakers between God and men?
In this episode of Friday Field Notes, Ryan Michler tackles a controversial but critical idea: what if free markets aren't the problem—but the proving ground for masculinity? Ryan breaks down how systems built on risk, accountability, competition, and earned success shape men into capable, resilient leaders. He contrasts this with the growing appeal of dependency-driven systems and explains why outsourcing responsibility may come at a deeper cost—your purpose, identity, and sovereignty. This is a direct, unfiltered look at what men lose when struggle disappears—and why the free market might be the arena men actually need. On this episode of The Work, Greg and I kick things off with a little anniversary talk — seven years married to Crystal and somehow still going strong. From there, we dive into everything happening behind the scenes as we get ready for Meatstock: booth prep, Keto Brick samples, new flavors, team travel, workouts, and the chaos that comes with taking the whole operation on the road.We also get into the less glamorous side of business — rising costs, changing discount tiers, staying transparent with customers, and refusing to cut corners on quality just to protect margins. Then we wrap with training talk, higher-volume programming, the free Savage Strength app, and why the basics still work when you actually stick to them.As always, it's a mix of business, nutrition, training, real food, real work, and a little bit of nonsense along the way.Greg Mahler is also a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and can be followed on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/ketogreg80/Register For My FREE Masterclass: https://www.ketobodybuilding.com/registration-2Get Keto Brick: https://www.ketobrick.com/Subscribe to the podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/42cjJssghqD01bdWBxRYEg?si=1XYKmPXmR4eKw2O9gGCEuQ

Your boss doesn't know what you do all day better than you do. Stop waiting for a playbook and start writing your own.The Three Buckets That Redefine Your Job: Aneesh breaks your weekly tasks into three buckets: what AI can do for you, what you're building with AI, and what's pure you — critical thinking, ethical judgment, human connection. As you shift work across those buckets, you stop being replaceable and start becoming indispensable. CEO or newest hire, start now.Nobody Beats You at Being You: The industrial age told us to be machine-like. Now a machine can out-machine us — and people are terrified. But Aneesh flips it: for the first time in human history, work is about to index on human capabilities. Your curiosity, creativity, and ability to build real partnerships — that's your competitive edge. Bet on yourself, because the systems of work are finally shifting to reward what makes you uniquely you.Sound Bytes:“AI is not going to replace you unless you let it. It all starts with the agency we have as individuals and the strengths we start with.”“Nobody beats you at being you. Welcome back to Truth, Lies & Work, the award-winning workplace podcast where behavioral science meets workplace culture. Part of the HubSpot Podcast Network, the audio destination for business professionals. If you're a founder who has built something brilliant but finds the idea of 'selling' it a little bit icky, this episode is for you. Today, we're joined by Thomas Waites, a fractional Chief Revenue Officer and startup advisor who has scaled multiple companies from seed stage to successful acquisition. Thomas takes a refreshingly contrarian view of sales. He argues that the very traits many founders think disqualify them from sales—honesty, empathy, and a hatred for pushiness—are actually their greatest competitive advantages.
In this episode, Brooke and I dive into a struggle so many Christian women share: feeling disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed in their lives, and genuinely unsure why their health is suffering. What often shows up: Constant stress and urgency Snapping at loved ones Poor health or confusing symptoms Feeling unable to slow down The root issue isn't just physical, it's a whole-person misalignment. Why "Healthy" Efforts Aren't Working So many women are trying: Diet changes Supplements Exercise plans But still feel stuck. The missing piece? The "why" behind the dysfunction. Your body responds to: Chronic stress Emotional wounds Spiritual disconnection Without addressing those, surface-level fixes just won't last. Living in Survival Mode A key theme we talk about is the nervous system. So many women are stuck in fight-or-flight, which looks like: Everything feeling urgent Inability to rest Constant distraction Burnout and irritability Your body was designed to handle stress briefly, not live in it daily. When it does, both physical and emotional health begin to decline. Emotions Are Signals Instead of suppressing emotions, Brooke reframes them as signals: Anger → often rooted in fear Anxiety → often tied to overload Irritation → unmet needs Learning to name emotions helps calm your body and understand what's really happening. Biblically, emotions aren't sinful, they're human. Even Jesus experienced deep grief and distress. The goal isn't to avoid emotion, but to remain obedient within it. Connection Before Correction This applies to both parenting and personal growth. Instead of immediately fixing behavior: Pause Attune Understand When you feel seen (and help others feel seen), real change becomes possible. Why You Feel Overwhelmed The issue often isn't effort, it's capacity. Your nervous system determines how much you can handle. If it's overwhelmed, adding more habits only makes things worse. Healing expands your capacity over time so you can handle life differently, even if your responsibilities don't change. The Work That Changes You Real transformation requires deeper work: Processing emotions Facing past wounds Letting go of control Surrendering to God It's not easy, but it leads to lasting peace and clarity. Getting Back Into Alignment So many women are living out of order: Work and responsibilities first God and self last True alignment looks like: God Family Self-care Everything else When God is first, everything else begins to fall into place. Self-Care Isn't Selfish Neglecting yourself leads to burnout and disconnection. Taking care of yourself allows you to: Show up fully for others Respond instead of react Live with more peace and joy You weren't designed to run on empty. Final Takeaway Your body, mind, and spirit are connected. Healing starts when you: Slow down Pay attention Process what's beneath the surface Reorder your life around God It's not about doing more. It's about living aligned. Even couples committed to a true, fair partnership can fracture under the weight of an invisible kind of work that almost always goes unacknowledged. In this episode, Megan and Joel sit down with Harvard-trained lawyer and bestselling author Eve Rodsky to talk about the reasons couples end up carrying unequal loads, and how ownership and accountability can help partners end cycles of resentment and defensiveness and move into trust. If you're ready to feel like you're on the same team again, this episode is for you.Memorable Quotes“At the time, we had no system for the home. We were using the three most toxic words that anyone can use for a relationship with kids: We were ‘figuring it out.'”“Fair Play is a system to restore accountability and trust, and the way you do that is by using very, very simple organizational principles… It has boundaries, systems, and communication.”“How do you fix that dynamic of somebody who's overwhelmed and somebody who's lost psychological safety in the home? There's only one way and it's ownership. That's it. You restore accountability and trust through ownership.”“There's only one scale that you'll learn in organizational management. There's trust over here, and guess what's on the other end? Control… The more you inch over to control, the more those people don't wanna be in that organization.”“We have to treat the home the same as we would treat any other practice. You're not going to gain muscle without continuing repetitive exercise. This is a muscle and a practice. And so what I would say is: there's no failing at the practice. There's just coming back to the table.”“It's helpful not to frame it like: ‘You totally suck and you need to get it together or else.' But just if you frame it like: ‘I need you.' Like, this is a two person job to run this enterprise called our family, and it's the most important work we're probably ever gonna do.”Key TakeawaysYour Home Is a Complex Organization. A family has all the complexity of any workplace, but almost none of the structure. Applying basic organizational principles—ownership, accountability, clear roles—changes the entire dynamic of how a household runs. The Mental Load Is the Missing Variable. Most conversations about domestic fairness only count visible tasks. But the real imbalance lives in the invisible work: the conceiving, planning, and anticipating that happens before anyone lifts a finger. Until that's counted, the scales will never balance."Figuring It Out" Doesn't Work. When couples default to winging it, the work doesn't disappear. It defaults. And research in 27 countries shows it almost always defaults to the woman. It's the predictable outcome of having no system at all.Ownership is Beginning to End. Helping with a task isn't the same as owning it. True ownership means handling the conception, planning, and execution (CPE) together. When partners only show up for execution, the load stays lopsided, even when everyone is trying.Trust and Control Are on a Seesaw. In the absence of trust, people resort to control, and both sides of that dynamic are miserable. The way back is agreed upon standards and ownership that creates space for partners to carry through and allows for true load-sharing.Fair Play Is a Practice. Like fitness, the system only works if you keep coming back to it. Life changes, standards shift, and cards drift. Couples who flourish are the ones who keep returning to the table.Resourcesfairplaypolicy.orgFair Play Life (Instagram)Fair Play by Eve RodskyMaintenance by Stewart BrandWatch on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/6DBCOtydrRcThis episode was produced by Sarah Vorhees Wendel of VW Sound

We examine how the gut microbiome changes dynamically, targeted nutritional interventions, the role of advanced testing, including the DUTCH test, and how genetics, detoxification pathways, methylation, and the estrobolome. This is an exciting, dynamic mashup of some of my favorite podcast conversations dedicated to estrogen and midlife physiology. It's one you'll likely want to revisit more than once. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: The critical role estrogen plays neurologically, and how estrogen receptors in the brain increase as estrogen declines How declining estradiol during menopause impacts women's lipid metabolism Why insulin resistance tends to increase during the menopause transition The gut microbiome shifts that occur in postmenopausal women The link between the gut microbiome and menopausal symptoms such as brain fog, anxiety, and sleep issues How impaired estrogen detoxification pathways may increase long-term risk of hormone-sensitive cancers How the DUTCH test provides insight into hormone patterns and metabolism beyond standard bloodwork How declining estrogen disrupts the hair growth cycle and increases shedding Why personalized approaches to supplements, diet, and HRT are essential for women in midlife Connect with Cynthia Thurlow Follow on X, Instagram & LinkedIn Check out Cynthia's website Submit your questions to support@cynthiathurlow.com Join other like-minded women in a supportive, nurturing community: The Midlife Pause/Cynthia Thurlow Cynthia's Menopause Gut Book is on presale now! Biomechanist Katy Bowman speaks with gerontologist and author Dr. Kerry Burnight about her concept of joyspan—a missing piece in how we think about aging well.We often hear about lifespan (how long we live) and healthspan (how long we stay physically well), but what about the quality of those years? Dr. Burnight introduces joyspan as our capacity to experience a meaningful, fulfilling life as we age. In this framework, joy is not simple happiness, but a deeper sense of wellbeing that can coexist with challenge, grief, and change.Katy and Dr. Burnight explore the Joyspan Matrix—Give, Connect, Adapt, and Grow—and how these actions enable us to thrive as we age. Rather than viewing aging as inevitable decline they discuss aging as development, the positives of aging and how to step into eldership.Katy also speaks with our sponsor, Sohail Shariff of Movemate, creators of a unique dynamic wooden standing board that provides continuous, wave-like movement in the body while you are working at your desk or at home. They discuss how the board supports musculoskeletal health, while also improving focus, creativity, and calm—reducing fatigue and the mental boredom and stagnation that comes from prolonged stillness. They also explore the role of play in the design, and how a serious problem—sedentary behavior—can be addressed in a way that is engaging, enjoyable, and even joyful.Enhanced Show Notes and Full Transcript00:00 – Lifespan, Healthspan… and Joyspan01:20 – Dynamic Collective Sponsors02:30 – Dr Kerry Burnight Explains Joyspan: The Science of Thriving As You Age09:40 – The Joyspan Matrix: Grow, Connect, Adapt, Give19:30 – Giving, Purpose & Becoming an Elder (Rethinking Aging)42:00 – Meet Movemate: A Dynamic Standing Board for Work and Play46:00 – How Movemate Works: Movement, Feeling & Physical Benefits49:15 – Cognitive & Emotional Effects of the Movemate Board54:00 – Play & Solving Sedentary Behavior With Enjoyable Movement Tools1:05:20 – Listener question: resolving amenorrhea, sponsored by Ikaria Design Books, Links and Resources:Joyspan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life's Second Half – Dr Kerry Burnight About Dr Kerry Burnight (gerontologist, author of Joyspan) Dr Kerry Burnight on InstagramMovemate – Dynamic Active Standing Board for Work & Play Movemate on InstagramConnect, Move & Learn:Join Our Newsletter: Movement Colored GlassesFollow Katy on SubstackTry Katy's Virtual Studio Free for 7 days!Made Possible By Our Wonderful Sponsors:.Peluva: Five-toe minimalist shoes that move like you do—take 10% off with code NUTRITIOUSMOVEMENTMovemate: Active standing boards with smoothly articulating wooden slats. The two biggest inputs we have into our physiology and metabolism are what we eat and what we do for movement and exercise. There are 4 unique metabolic scenarios that emerge when modulating those two inputs and they underlie the process and progress a person makes towards their physical and health goals. This episode dives into the how, why, when, and for how long for each of these metabolic scenarios, that we call - The Metabolic Toggles. MOORE As Chief People Officer, Tanya drives initiatives that empower West Monroe's employees and foster a high-performing, supportive culture. Tanya partners with leadership to develop the next generation of leaders, ensuring our people are fulfilled and our employee experience remains a key differentiator. Before joining West Monroe in 2023, Tanya was Chief People Officer at M.C. Dean and spent two decades with IBM, where she led award-winning programs that shaped the company's transformation. She holds an MBA in organizational development from the College of William and Mary. Outside of work, she serves on several advisory boards, including The Conference Board's CHRO Council, the William and Mary Consulting Board of Directors, and the She-Suite Board of Advisors. She is also a sought-after speaker on topics such as workforce transformation, the evolving role of HR, and leveraging AI to advance people and organizational transformation. Key Takeaways 1. Senior Candidates Should Run a Due Diligence Process, Not Just an Interview Tanya's 18-interview process wasn't excessive — it was intelligence gathering. She was evaluating CEO relationship dynamics, board influence, team readiness, and organizational appetite for change. Candidates at any level should approach interviews as a two-way assessment. 2. Know What You're Actually Looking For Before You Start As Tanya put it: smart, kind, humble people. Work she enjoys. Some fun. The clearer you are about your non-negotiables before you start a job search, the better your decision-making will be when offers come in. 3. Employee Ownership Changes the Employment Relationship With 74% of West Monroe employees holding equity in the company, the ownership mindset isn't a metaphor — it's structural. This is a genuine differentiator in total rewards and shapes how employees engage with the business and with clients. 4. Benefits Signal Culture, Not Just Compensation Tanya's view: the specific benefits matter less than what they reveal about a company's values. Organizations that invest in comprehensive, thoughtful benefits are signaling that they see employees as whole people — and that signal is what candidates are actually responding to. 5. COVID Permanently Raised the Floor on Benefits Expectations The pandemic gave people permission to stop and ask what actually matters. Flexibility, mental health support, and personalized benefits have moved from nice-to-have to expected — and companies that haven't caught up are losing candidates to those that have. 6. Open Roles Are a Hidden Employee Retention Risk Every unfilled position means someone else on the team is absorbing that work. The longer a role stays open, the more likely you are to lose another employee as a result. Time to fill is a culture and retention metric, not just a talent acquisition metric. 7. AI in Recruiting Should Eliminate Low-Value Steps, Not Human Connection West Monroe's approach to AI was surgical: identify every step in the recruiting process where technology could add value, and use it there — so recruiters can spend more time on the high- touch, high-judgment work that actually moves candidates. Automated scheduling and AI- assisted interview feedback are the easy wins. 8. Feedback Loops Are the Biggest Bottleneck in Consulting Firm Hiring Getting busy managers to interview isn't the hard part — it's getting their structured feedback afterward. Tools like BrightHire that record interviews (with consent) and auto-generate notes and scoring against the job description are solving a real, expensive problem. 9. Burnout Needs Programmatic Solutions, Not Just Resources Pointing employees to an EAP or mental health benefit isn't enough when burnout is systemic. West Monroe is exploring more customized, structured support for employees who are struggling — moving from reactive to proactive people care. 10. AI Is the Internet — Embrace It or Fall Behind Tanya's optimism about AI isn't naive — it's grounded in historical perspective. Just as nobody predicted what the internet would become, nobody fully knows where AI is going. Her advice: use it, test it, let it make you smarter. "F around and find out." 00:00 – Introduction Adam introduces Tanya Moore, CPO at West Monroe, and sets up a conversation about benefits, candidate experience, and the modern people function. 01:30 – Meet West Monroe & Tanya Tanya describes West Monroe's differentiators — quality, speed to value, client NPS — and traces her career from 20 years at IBM to her current CPO role. 04:00 – Being the Candidate: 18 Interviews Tanya shares what it was like to go through 18 interviews as a senior exec, why she didn't quit, and what she was actually evaluating along the way. 07:00 – What Senior Candidates Should Really Ask The questions Tanya asked that most candidates don't: CEO relationship dynamics, board influence and hands-on vs. hands-off style, team readiness, and what really happens when things go wrong. 10:00 – Modernizing People Ops at West Monroe, walking into an org with no succession planning and no workforce planning, and the systematic approach Tanya took to rebuild people functions from the ground up. 13:00 – Redesigning the Candidate Experience How West Monroe overhauled its recruiting workflows after adopting Greenhouse, dramatically improving time to hire, reducing cost, and elevating both candidate and manager experience. 16:00 – Time to Fill as an Employee Retention Metric Why open roles aren't just a talent problem — they're a burnout and satisfaction risk for the employees left picking up the slack. 18:30 – Employee Ownership as a Total Rewards Differentiator How West Monroe's half employee-owned model and 74% equity participation rate changes how people show up — and how it's positioned as a benefit in the recruiting process. 21:00 – Benefits Beyond the Basics From childcare and dog walking to expanded mental health support, Tanya breaks down what West Monroe offers and why COVID permanently shifted candidate expectations around benefits. 24:00 – Flex Benefits & the Future of Personalization Tanya's vision for benefits that let employees choose what matters to them — gym memberships, yoga, wellness stipends — rather than a one-size-fits-all package. 26:30 – Tackling Burnout Proactively West Monroe's evolving approach to burnout: moving beyond standard mental health appointments toward more customized, programmatic support for employees who need it most. 29:00 – AI in Recruiting: Where It's Actually Working From automated interview scheduling to BrightHire's AI-powered feedback tools, Tanya walks through specific efficiency gains that are giving recruiters more time for high-value human work. 32:00 – Getting Feedback from Busy Hiring Managers The real bottleneck in consulting firm recruiting isn't getting managers to show up — it's getting their feedback afterward. How BrightHire is solving that. 34:30 – An Optimist's Take on AI & the Future of Work Tanya closes with her big-picture view on AI — likening it to the early internet — and her direct advice to anyone still on the fence: "F around and find out."

Ryan Leak spent the last day of his twenties at a speaking event where a woman told him his documentary had pulled a young man off the floor of a crack house and back into life, and that single moment changed how he decided to spend the next decade of his career. What makes this conversation surprising is how openly Ryan admits he is still working through his own lies, like the belief that the only value he brings to the world is what people see on a stage or a screen. He talks directly to anyone who has ever burned energy on relationships that were never really friendships, anyone who has reacted to a difficult person and become someone they did not recognize in the process, and anyone who keeps saying yes when everything inside them is asking them to pause. Ryan lays out a practical case for why becoming proactive instead of reactive is the only real solution to handling difficult people, and why the most generous thing you can give someone is not money but a path to make their own. The episode closes with a question every listener deserves to sit with: if you stayed on the exact same path for another decade, would you look back knowing you truly went for it, or would you realize you were playing it safe inside something that felt comfortable?
