We all know trust matters in business. But it's usually framed as self-trust... trust yourself, back yourself, show up confidently. And while that's true, it's not the whole story. In this episode, Jackie and I talk about the kind of trust that doesn't get nearly enough airtime, and why it's at the heart of everything from pricing and retreat planning to expectation setting and sustainable growth. This one goes deep into what it really takes to lead when you care deeply and still want to scale. In this episode, you'll hear: The real truth about retreats that most people won't tell you How a casual comment from Jackie's assistant revealed a bigger industry-wide truth The hidden power of clear, consistent expectation setting (and why most people skip it) What happens when you change your themes and frameworks too often, even with good intentions Why being sold on what you're offering matters more than how you sell it The uncomfortable tradeoffs between personalization, pricing, and your own capacity What trusting others really looks like when you're scaling with care and speed Episode Links Join my Facebook group Connect with Jackie on Instagram Learn more about Jackie on her website

Watch the YouTube version of this episode HEREAre you a law firm owner looking for strategies to build a better business? In this episode of Maximum Lawyer, Tyson interviews Jonathan Hawkins, an attorney specializing in advising law firms on business management and legal strategy. Jonathan shares practical insights on building strong client retainer agreements, protecting against associate turnover, and planning for partnership transitions. Jonathan shares some strategies law firms need to use to protect themselves when associates leave and take clients with them. One thing to embed in your processes is establishing partnership agreements with lawyers you hire. This is a way to outline stipulations as it relates to a lawyer leaving and taking a client. Though a client has the ultimate choice, it can be included in an agreement that a lawyer should not encourage their client to leave with them. When Ghost co-founders Dan Lourenco and Ryan Hughes launched their fitness and lifestyle brand in 2016, they weren't chasing headlines or quick exits. They were trying to build a company that felt like a movement. From the outset, Ghost resonated with a younger, influencer-savvy audience drawn to its bold, candy- and snack-inspired fitness supplements – flavors like Warhead and Sour Patch Kids brought a nostalgic twist to recovery powders and wellness products. Building on this momentum, the brand expanded into energy and hydration beverages, achieving broad distribution across major U.S. and international retailers while cultivating a strong direct-to-consumer presence. In a significant endorsement of its growth and potential, Keurig Dr Pepper acquired a 60% stake in the company for $990 million in October, with plans to purchase the remaining 40% by 2028. So how did a company that deliberately avoided a traditional marketing playbook become a household name in sports nutrition and energy? In a candid conversation, Dan pulls back the curtain on Ghost's rise — from behind-the-scenes YouTube videos to blockbuster licensing deals and national shelf space. He explains why authenticity remains the brand's North Star — and why, for Ghost, that goes beyond simply being founder-led. Dan also reflects on the personal journey behind the business: how stepping away from social media helped him regain focus, and what scaling a brand taught him about leadership, growth, and staying grounded. Show notes: 0:25: Dan Lourenco, Co-Founder & CEO, Ghost – Dan talks about Ghost's mission to become a “100-year brand” built on authenticity, innovation, and community, and how, despite selling a majority stake to Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), Ghost has retained its founder-led identity. He also discusses why the brand's growth has been rooted in transparency rather than traditional marketing, how differentiation lies in purposeful innovation, and why the company approaches licensing more selectively than in the past. Dan explains how Ghost's expansion into functional beverages was driven by organic customer behavior, and why he emphasizes staying nimble, preserving brand values, and maintaining a startup mindset. He also reflects on the challenges of founder wellness, learning to balance personal fulfillment with leadership, stepping back from personal social media and how he advises entrepreneurs to focus on what truly matters. Inside Strategic Coach: Connecting Entrepreneurs With What Really Matters
Are you holding back, waiting for the “right” decision? In this episode, Shannon Waller and Dan Sullivan reveal why taking action—even imperfect action—is the key to entrepreneurial momentum. Discover how making any decision unlocks feedback, reduces anxiety, and activates your best thinking, while indecision keeps you stuck. Plus, learn practical strategies to overcome perfectionism and move forward. Here's some of what you'll learn in this episode:The importance of making a decision that requires that you take action. How indecision leads to more indecision. What you sacrifice when you refuse to choose. How to get a clear picture of the situation you're in. Show Notes: Taking action, even with imperfect information, is better than staying stuck in indecision. The problem with making no decision is that you're not changing the situation that's paralyzing you. When you can't make a decision, the pressure builds on you exponentially, as does the feeling of isolation and disconnection from your team and your goals. As soon as you start taking action, you get an enormous amount of information about whether it was a right action or a wrong action.Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. Humans are best when they're in motion. People become unproductive when they're not making decisions. You don't have to make the right decision. You can make a decision, and then make it right. Clarity and confidence come after you commit, not before. Decisive entrepreneurs make mistakes, but they also learn and adapt much faster than indecisive ones. When you're indecisive, you lose access to your wisdom, experience, and problem-solving abilities. The act of deciding eliminates alternative options and allows your mind to focus on what matters most. Protecting your role and saying no to distractions is a by-product of being decisive about your commitments. The word “decide” literally means to “kill off” alternatives, freeing you from mental clutter and overwhelm. What can the “Indiana Jones of Entrepreneurship” tell us about how AI is shaping the next generation of entrepreneurs? Evan Kubicek, also known as Coach K, is a social entrepreneur, educator, and business coach dedicated to helping people, businesses, and communities grow. As a senior faculty member at Eastern Illinois University, he shares strategies that drive transformation in his students, their companies, and their communities. Beyond the classroom, Evan is the Executive Director of the Business Incubator Elevate, a Fractional Chief Impact Officer, and a business advisor with multiple organizations. His experience spans retail, humanitarian aid, international startups, and consulting across numerous countries. In this episode, Evan shares his insights on AI's role in business education, how students perceive authenticity in digital content, and why adaptability is the key to success. He also discusses the shifting expectations of graduates entering the workforce, from flexible work environments to the evolving definition of career stability. Through his experiences as an entrepreneur and educator, Evan highlights the need for resilience, continuous learning, and strategic thinking in today's fast-changing world. Whether you're a student, an entrepreneur, or a business leader, this conversation offers valuable takeaways on the intersection of AI, education, and career growth. Key Takeaways: AI is reshaping how students learn and work, but many still struggle with trusting its authenticity. Learning how to use AI for market research, automation, and creative projects is becoming essential. Young entrepreneurs must balance technology with human connection and emotional intelligence. The job market is changing—flexibility, purpose, and meaningful work are becoming top priorities for graduates. Entrepreneurs and job seekers alike need to understand how to add measurable value to stand out. Success isn't just about financial growth—it's about building strong relationships, solving real problems, and staying engaged in meaningful work. Entrepreneurs need to focus on solving meaningful problems, not just making money—without purpose, success feels empty. If your business is just moving files and emails, AI will replace you. This week, in Episode 252, David Barnett, Mel Gravely, and Kate Morgan discuss a somewhat unusual approach to succession, which is to not sell the business. Basically, it's about taking a step back from leadership while maintaining ownership, and both Kate and especially Mel are moving in this direction. The approach can pay off financially in part because businesses often are worth more to the owner than they would be to a buyer. Why is that? As David explains, the business that the buyer buys isn't really the same business that the owner sells: “If you've owned the business for a long time,” he says, “the balance sheet is probably pretty strong. You've had time to earn money, pay down debts. You've got a good equity position. This makes the business strong, and it makes it better able to weather storms. If I were to come along and buy Mel's business, I would come together on a price, and I would pay Mel. But a good chunk of that money would probably be borrowed. Now, I would have a much weaker balance sheet than what Mel enjoys today. And a big chunk of the cash flow that he currently enjoys, I would end up giving to my bank.” Of course, this approach to succession does have some challenging elements, including finding someone to run the business. Plus: We also discuss whether it's possible to sell a solopreneur business.
What differentiates successful entrepreneurs from those who struggle or fail? According to Daryl Urbanski, it comes down to eight critical success factors he's identified after interviewing more than 600 high-performing business owners.Daryl's own path reads like a masterclass in entrepreneurial evolution. From humble beginnings shoveling Canadian driveways, he transformed into a business growth specialist who helped NeuroGym generate $1.6 million in just six months (which expanded to $7.5 million within three years). His approach has always been evidence-based - investing over $50,000 in research to identify the patterns that consistently produce results. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Daryl breaks down the difference between simply "doing the work" and actually "running a business." Many entrepreneurs fail to recognize that delivering a service is only one component of running a successful operation. As he explains: "When you go to McDonald's, they never say the drive-thru's closed because Sally's got a cold." This illuminates why some technically skilled professionals struggle to scale beyond their own capacity.Perhaps most valuable is Daryl's strategic blueprint for building a six-figure business in just 90 days. Rather than focusing on low-ticket, high-volume offerings, he advocates identifying high-value solutions you can genuinely deliver, proving the concept through pre-sales, and maximizing face-to-face interactions with potential clients. "It's easier to make income selling $10,000 items than $10 items," he notes, reminding us that the effort to make a sale often remains similar regardless of price point. The episode culminates with profound insight into what truly sets successful entrepreneurs apart - their relationship with time. Daryl maintains strict discipline around time management, scheduling his day in 30-minute blocks and eliminating distractions that most people consider normal. His recitation of Arnold Bennett's poem on the finite nature of our daily 24 hours serves as both inspiration and warning: "We shall never have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is."Ready to transform your business through automation and strategic growth?
