Heart posture often changes a wide range of situations, and business is no exception. The way we show up internally has a direct influence on the outcomes we see externally. When our mindset is grounded and intentional, it shapes how we lead, how we respond, and how we grow. In today's episode, I'm diving into the power of gratitude, yes, simple, intentional gratitude, and how it can dramatically influence the way you approach both your business and your everyday life. This episode breaks down how a gratitude-centered mindset is more than a feel-good idea, it's a practical tool that can shift your perspective, your decisions, and even the results you experience that lead to support healthier business growth. Tune in here to this Monday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking about gratitude and grief, setting the tone by contrasting the spirit of Thanksgiving with the chaos he believes has overtaken public life. He reflects on a tragic incident in Washington, D.C., describing it as a symbol of what he calls a “death of decency.” Brett discusses the divide he sees between people guided by faith, compassion, and community, and those he characterizes as driven by anger and disruption. T We’re joined by Bill Roggio from the Long War Journal to talk about radicalization and the troubling gaps in U.S. security policy. Roggio explains that while the attacker had been vetted as part of Afghanistan’s CIA-supported “Zero Units,” that kind of battlefield vetting doesn’t necessarily translate into suitability for U.S. residency or citizenship. Early reports suggest a mix of possible mental-health concerns and exposure to radical influences, but he cautions that much remains unknown. Hello, hello and welcome back to Greedy Bitch, the podcast for groomers who are done apologizing for wanting more. I'm your host, River Lee, founder of The Savvy Groomer — and if you're listening to this while staring at a pile of towels, brushing out a doodle, or half-living on caffeine and leftover Halloween candy… breathe with me for a second. You did it. You made it through November — the month that feels like a tug-of-war between gratitude and grind. We just survived the “Turkey Month Trifecta” — too many dogs, too many deadlines, and not nearly enough naps. Now we're staring down December — that magical, slightly unhinged season where everyone wants to be on your nice list while simultaneously acting like they belong on your naughty list. And before we dive headfirst into bows, Santa photos, and last-minute “just one more” calls, I want to pause and talk about something groomers rarely do this time of year: gratitude for ourselves. Because gratitude isn't just about your clients, your dogs, or your bookings. It's about appreciating how far you've come… and giving yourself permission to rest before the next round begins. So today, we're slowing down, taking stock, and getting real about what you're not bringing into December. You don't need to earn your rest. You've already earned it. Let's be honest — Thanksgiving gets all the hype for being the “season of gratitude,” but somewhere between the mashed potatoes and the matted doodles, most of us skipped right past it. We confuse gratitude with over-giving. We think, “I should be thankful, so I shouldn't complain. I should just push through. I should take one more client, work one more hour, or skip lunch again because — hey — at least I'm busy.” But that's not gratitude. That's burnout dressed up like Thanksgiving dinner. Gratitude isn't about ignoring your exhaustion — it's about acknowledging your effort. It's looking back at the chaos and saying, “Wow. I really did that.” You kept dogs safe. You kept clients happy. You kept your doors open, your shears sharp, and your sanity mostly intact. And if you're listening to this, that means you cared enough to keep growing — not just grooming. But here's the catch: you can't receive gratitude if you're running on empty. You can't enjoy the fruits of your labor if you're too tired to taste them. If your idea of celebrating a successful month is collapsing on the couch with take-out and scrolling through client messages you haven't answered yet… that's not success. That's survival. So let's change that. Let's talk about what it really looks like to move from grateful but exhausted to grateful and grounded. Here's what I want you to do — and yes, you can do this mentally while you groom. Think back on November. What worked? What made you proud? What left you feeling like, “That was worth it”? Maybe it was the way you handled a difficult client with calm confidence. Maybe it was finally saying “no” to that once-a-year emergency husky. Maybe it was enforcing your matting policy, or remembering to eat something green that wasn't a jolly rancher.. Now, let's look at the other side — the things that drained you. That moment when you felt resentful. That day you skipped lunch and snapped at your bather. That time you squeezed someone in “just this once” and immediately regretted it. We're not judging — we're observing. Reflection isn't about guilt; it's about data. You can't fix what you won't face. So if you noticed that your income didn't match your effort, that's not failure — that's a clue. If you noticed you're crankier with clients or shorter with your own pets at home, that's not shame — that's your body saying, “Hey, I'm done.” The best groomers aren't the busiest ones — they're the ones who listen when their energy talks back. So, what's your energy telling you right now? You know how we tell clients that matting doesn't magically go away — it only gets worse if you ignore it? Yeah, burnout's the same way. So before December starts, let's de-mat your mental space. Let's brush out what doesn't belong anymore. If you're holding onto guilt — let it go. If you're still obsessing about that one bad review or that one client you couldn't please — let it go. If you're still undercharging someone out of pity — please, for the love of your sanity, let. it. go. You are not a machine. You are not a holiday miracle worker. You are a human with limits — and that's a good thing. So here's what I want you to do this week: Pick one thing to release before December hits. Maybe it's dropping a red-flag client. Maybe it's removing one service that doesn't make sense anymore. Maybe it's giving yourself permission to close early one day a week. Whatever it is, write it down. Say it out loud. Because clarity creates calm. You can't be grateful if you're buried under guilt. You can't be present if you're running on panic. You deserve a version of success that doesn't require suffering. Let's talk about the thing groomers struggle with the most: rest. I know — even the word feels wrong in your mouth. We're a community built on hustle. We wear exhaustion like a badge of honor. But rest isn't laziness — it's maintenance. Think about your tools. You wouldn't groom a full day with dull blades or skip cleaning your tub because “there's no time.” So why do you treat your mind and body any different? Gratitude isn't just saying “thank you.” It's showing thank you — to yourself. You thank yourself by scheduling a break. You thank yourself by eating a real lunch instead of protein bars and promises. You thank yourself by closing your books when you said you would. Because when you rest, you come back sharper. Kinder. More creative. More you. And that version of you — calm, confident, and cared for — that's the one your clients, your dogs, and your business truly need. Now, before we wrap up, I want to remind you — gratitude and profit can coexist. In fact, they should. If you've been nodding along all month thinking, “I know I need to raise my prices, but I just feel guilty,” this is your sign. Gratitude for your clients doesn't mean charging less. It means running a business that will still exist next year so you can keep serving them. If you haven't yet, go check out the Price Increase Masterclass at SavvyGroomer.com/PIMC It's the step-by-step guide to figuring out exactly what to charge, how to communicate it without guilt, and how to handle any pushback like the pro you already are. Because you don't need to work harder — you just need to charge like someone who's already earned it. And friend, you have. Before we go, I want to leave you with this thought: You don't have to start December exhausted just because everyone else is. You can choose peace over pressure. Boundaries over burnout. Gratitude over guilt. Take a deep breath. Let it out. And say this with me: “I'm grateful for how far I've come. I honor my limits. My peace is profitable.” You've already done enough. You've already earned your rest. Now it's time to receive it. If today's episode hit home, share it with a fellow groomer who needs to hear that rest isn't failure — it's strategy. I highly suggest you check out our free Holiday Boundaries scripts and you can get that at SavvyGroomer.com/HolidayBoundaries And if you're ready to start the new year with confidence and clarity, grab your spot in the Price Increase Masterclass at SavvyGroomer.com/PIMC Until next time — stay grateful, take a nap, and as always… stay greedy, bitch.

The holidays are meant to be a season of joy, generosity, and gratitude. Yet for many families, the celebrations come with a heavy dose of financial stress—stress that lingers long after the decorations are packed away. Our desire to bless others often leads to spending more than we planned. But it doesn't have to be that way.Recently, we sat down with Neile Simon, Certified Credit Counselor and Director of Strategic Partnerships at Christian Credit Counselors, to talk about how families can give meaningfully, stay within their means, and refocus on what Christmas is truly about.Creating a Realistic Holiday PlanMost people enter the holiday season with the best of intentions. We want to show love, bless others, and create special memories. But somewhere along the way, those intentions can derail.Neile explains that a mix of cultural pressures makes overspending almost effortless: holiday sales, credit card offers at checkout, “buy now, pay later” deals, and social media's endless highlight reels. Before long, the drive to be generous morphs into the belief that we must spend more to prove how much we care. And the consequences last far beyond December—financial stress, increased debt, and a January filled with regret rather than joy. The good news: overspending isn't inevitable. Neile suggests starting early and planning intentionally.1. Decide what you can truly afford. Account for all holiday expenses—gifts, food, travel, entertainment, and even small traditions that add up.2. Set a total spending limit. Let this number guide every decision throughout the season.3. Use cash or debit when possible. “When the money's gone, you're done—and that's okay,” Neile says. This simple boundary protects you from impulse spending.4. If using credit cards, treat them as tools—not the enemy. Used wisely, they can help you track your spending. The key is to stay disciplined and avoid taking on debt you can't comfortably repay.Ultimately, a budget is not a restriction—it's a path to freedom. It helps you enjoy the season without dreading the bill that arrives in January.Meaningful Giving Without OverspendingGenerosity isn't measured by price tags. In fact, the most meaningful gifts are often the simplest.Neile encourages families to focus on personal, relational giving:Handwritten notesHomemade treatsShared experiencesThoughtful, small gifts with clear intentionHer own family keeps gift-giving fun by setting spending limits and doing a white-elephant exchange. “It takes the pressure off,” she says, “and turns gift-giving into shared laughter and memory-making.”When togetherness becomes the priority over possessions, Christmas becomes both more joyful and more affordable. If You're Already in Debt, There's HopeFor families already carrying debt, Christmas can feel like a tug-of-war between generosity and financial reality. Neile offers this encouragement: give within your means—even if it means scaling back. Why? Because responsible giving protects your finances, your peace, and your future.“Think of it this way,” Neile says. “A relaxed, stress-free January is far better than stressing out after overspending in December.”Scaling back isn't failure—it's stewardship. And it models wisdom and faithfulness for your children.Refocusing on the True Meaning of ChristmasAmid the lights, the gifts, and the traditions, it's easy to lose sight of the heart of Christmas.“Christmas is a celebration of Jesus—the greatest gift ever given,” Neile reminds us. When our hearts are centered on Him, love and grace become the focus. Giving within our means allows us to celebrate joyfully, gratefully, and peacefully. And when we spend with purpose—anchored in Christ rather than consumerism—we experience a kind of joy that lasts long after the season ends.Need Help With Debt?If financial stress is weighing you down, Christian Credit Counselors can help. As a nonprofit ministry, they specialize in debt management—not debt consolidation—working directly with your creditors to lower interest rates and help clear the path toward freedom.Learn more at: ChristianCreditCounselors.org/Faith. Pastor Lauren speaks on gratitude, perspective, and fear.
Mike Palmer returns to the Thanksgiving table to serve up a side of applied neuroscience. Powered by the recently released Gemini 3, he examines the "gratitude cocktail," a potent neurochemical mix of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin that mimics the effects of antidepressants and strengthens social bonds. Beyond the chemistry, Mike explores the psychological framework of The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy. He explains how measuring progress against an ideal future creates unhappiness, while measuring against the past generates resilience and satisfaction. The conversation shifts from theory to practice, detailing why gratitude stories are more effective than rote lists and how specific "Notice, Think, Feel, Do" protocols rewire the brain. Mike also debunks the tryptophan myth, explaining how carbohydrates and compelling narratives—like football—actually drive the post-meal nap. Finally, he reflects on the origins of Trending in Education, shares updates on the new Trending in Higher Ed feed, and previews upcoming live events from SXSW EDU to Alexandria, Virginia. Key Takeaways The Gratitude Cocktail: Gratitude activates the brain's reward centers. Dopamine drives motivation, serotonin stabilizes mood similar to SSRIs, and oxytocin fosters trust and bonding. Mindset Shift: "Gap thinking" focuses on the distance between your actual self and an unreachable ideal, leading to burnout. "Gain thinking" measures your actual self against your past self, highlighting progress and abundance. Stories Over Lists: Rote gratitude lists often lead to mechanical habituation. Constructing gratitude narratives creates stronger neural pathways and emotional connections. The Science of the Nap: It isn't just the turkey. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin and melatonin, but the heavy carbohydrate load and the relief of social bonding are the real drivers of sleepiness. Podcast Expansion: Trending in Education is expanding its network with a dedicated Trending in Higher Ed feed to allow listeners to dive deeper into specific verticals. Why You Should Listen This episode moves beyond the platitudes of "giving thanks" to reveal the biological mechanisms that make gratitude a high-performance tool. If you find yourself doomscrolling or fixating on what you haven't achieved, the "Gap and The Gain" framework offers a practical method to reset your cognitive baseline. Mike connects these mental models to tangible brain health, offering a compelling argument for why gratitude is essential fuel for resilience and innovation. In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with Lucy Biggers, a former climate activist who has undergone a remarkable transformation. Lucy shares her journey from being deeply entrenched in climate activism and suffering from climate anxiety to becoming a voice of reason who now creates content to calm people's environmental fears. We explore how documentaries like "An Inconvenient Truth" and her work at NowThis News shaped her initial worldview, and what specific moments during the COVID pandemic made her question the climate movement's demands. Lucy reveals how becoming a mother changed her perspective on the future and why she now advocates for climate realism over alarmism. We discuss the psychological appeal of climate catastrophism, the actual data on extreme weather and climate-related deaths, and how young people are being affected by environmental anxiety. This conversation examines the intersection of environmental concerns with mental health, exploring how catastrophic thinking about climate can impact life decisions about family, career, and personal wellbeing. Lucy offers a refreshing perspective on why humanity's future might be brighter than many believe, and why gratitude for human progress is essential for mental health.Lucy Biggers makes content to calm climate anxiety on her social media and is the Head of Social Media at The Free Press. Can you believe we're in the final stretch of the year? The last month always feel complicated. There's excitement, but also exhaustion. Gratitude, but also overwhelm. And if you're anything like me, your evenings can start to look like this: Dinner. Maybe a glass of wine. A scroll through social media. One episode of something, okay maybe two, and then suddenly it's 10:30 and you're too tired to do anything meaningful before bed.Sound familiar? For years, that was me. I told myself I was unwinding. But in reality, I was numbing out, not recharging. And as I started reflecting on what it means to end the year strong, I realized: it's not just about what we do during the day. It's about how we spend our evenings.Because your evenings set the tone for your mornings. And your mornings set the tone for everything else.So today, I want to talk about how to reclaim your evenings, not just to rest, but to reconnect with yourself, so you can finish the year not drained, but deeply fulfilled

The Christian podcast episode "An Attitude of Gratitude" features Minister Joe Granieri teaching that thankfulness is an essential settled way of thinking for believers, positioning it as God's remedy for all circumstances, including trials and tribulations. Joe asserts that under the New Covenant, Christians already possess authority and do not need to beg God, but must actively "fan into flame the gift of God" within them. A major component of this message is the insistence on the "absolute goodness of God," stressing that God does not cause sickness, calamity, or anger toward His people. He explains that thanksgiving is the key to spiritual activation, granting "access to God's tangible presence," enabling the flow of peace during tribulation, and releasing His "creative and resurrection power." Finally, Joe warns that a lack of gratitude, exemplified by the nine unthankful lepers, actively limits the power of God in a person's life and prevents them from experiencing complete wholeness.

The way you see your past reveals your heart, shapes your present, and sets the trajectory for your future. Gratitude isn't just for the good moments, it's God's will for every moment. 1 Thessalonians 5:18-Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Habakkuk 3:17–18-Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. You can't honor God and not honor People. Rom 12:10-Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Philippians 2:3-Don't do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves.

December stirs up a mix of emotions. For some, it brings warmth, celebration, and anticipation — a month full of Christmas lights, gatherings, and meaningful traditions. For others, it surfaces the ache of unfulfilled expectations, difficult memories, or the heaviness of a year that didn’t unfold as hoped. Regardless of how we enter the final month of the year, Scripture reminds us that God offers hope, joy, and peace to every heart that trusts Him. Preparing for December isn’t about forcing ourselves to feel a certain way — it’s about positioning our hearts to receive what God desires to pour into us. Lynette Kittle outlines five simple, biblical ways to prepare your heart for this new month: 1. Count Your BlessingsEven in a year marked by difficulty, God’s hand has carried you here. Remembering His faithfulness builds confidence for the month ahead. 2. Look Ahead with HopeHope is a spiritual posture. We don’t have to see what’s coming to trust the One who holds the future. 3. Feed on God’s WordDecember can be busy or emotionally draining; God’s Word is the nourishment that sustains you through both. 4. Open Your HandsGod fills what is surrendered. Whether your hands feel full or painfully empty, He invites you to receive His goodness. 5. Ask God for His JoyObedience keeps us close to the Father, and closeness leads to joy — a deep, sustaining joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances. However you are entering December — hopeful, tired, grieving, or joyful — God promises to meet you where you are. He offers His hope, His peace, His presence, and His unchanging love as you step into the days ahead. Bible Reading:“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13 Takeaway Truths December may bring both joy and sorrow, but God meets us in every emotion. Gratitude helps us recognize God’s faithfulness throughout the year. Hope grows as we trust God for what we cannot see. Spiritual nourishment prepares us for both celebration and hardship. God fills open, surrendered hands with His goodness. True joy comes from walking in God’s love and obedience. Let's Pray Dear Father, As we prepare our hearts for December, bring to mind the blessings You’ve given us throughout this past year. Help us remember Your faithful care and protection. Strengthen our faith to look ahead with hope, trusting that You are already present in every day to come. Give us a hunger for Your Word that we might grow stronger spiritually and more rooted in Your truth. Teach us to open our hands before You. When our hands are full, help us lay down what doesn’t matter. When our hands are clenched in disappointment or fear, gently open them so we can receive Your goodness. Fill us with Your joy — a joy that is complete, steady, and rooted in Your love. In Jesus’ name,Amen. For the millions of Americans that celebrate Thanksgiving, it's a time when many people reflect on the things and the people in our lives that they appreciate. This week on the pod, we're bringing you a conversation from our friends over at It's Been A Minute.
