Today I'm joined by someone I've got the chance to get to know over the last year plus. We were both clients inside of the WinRate Consulting community. He is the Owner of Rogue Combat Club and his newly launched construction company, 13 Stripes Construction.Johnny's Bio:I was born and raised by my entrepreneurial parents and lifelong athlete so self employment, sports and winning have been ingrained in me since a young age. I started karate when I was 6, but it wasn't physical enough. I started and fell in love with football because we got to hit each other every practice before finding wrestling in 8th grade which turned grappling into my passion and future profession. I wrestled then through college at The Citadel for 5 years before getting into MMA where I fought for Bellator, the XFC and other regional shows. During that time I lost my first gym in a lawsuit with my ex-business partner but with my contract going with Bellator, I had to start my own gym. I founded Rogue Combat Club in 2013 while working multiple jobs and still fighting before retiring in 2016 and going full time entrepreneur in 2017.From there I hit the top 1% of the industry in just 4 years. During that time I developed a world class customer experience, systems and team. Mike Claudio is a man who understands the power of a single conversation. As a personal coach and founder of a nonprofit organization that provides name-brand shoes to children in need, Mike has built a reputation for caring deeply about people and helping them achieve their goals. Unlike many individual coaches out there, Mike has built a coaching business that focuses on developing people in all areas of their lives. He believes that true success comes from finding balance and harmony between work, family, and personal growth, and he works tirelessly to help his clients achieve that balance. And when he's not coaching, he's busy running his nonprofit organization, which has sent over 5000 pairs of shoes to children in need over the last two years. Growing up, Mike had a strong work ethic instilled in him by his parents, who were always pushing him and his siblings to be their best. But he also felt the pressure to conform to society's expectations of what success should look like. He went to college, got a corporate job, and tried to fit into the mold that had been laid out for him. But despite his successes, he felt unfulfilled and unhappy. It wasn't until he tore his ACL during his senior year of high school that he realized how much he had invested in sports and how little he had invested in his personal growth. He didn't have any backup plans or hobbies, and he felt lost without sports to give him a sense of purpose. He turned to all the wrong things to fill the void, and it took years before he started to do what was truly best for him. After spending a decade in corporate America, Mike knew he needed to make a change. He wanted to build his own legacy and be in control of his future, so he took the leap and started his own coaching business. And when his former employer tried to scare him into staying, it only confirmed for Mike that he was on the right path. If he could go back and give himself one piece of advice as an underdog entrepreneur, Mike would tell himself to start building his personal brand from the very beginning. He knows that a strong personal brand can open doors and create opportunities that might not otherwise be available, and he believes that it's the key to building a successful business. Mike's story is a powerful reminder that success isn't just about achieving external markers of success like a big house or a high-paying job. It's about finding balance and harmony in all areas of your life and investing in your personal growth and development. Mike Claudio is basically a “Big Stud.” He's solid, locked in, and holds under pressure. (And he hosts the Big Stud Podcast- so go check it out). In the late 2010s, Mike was 27 years old making $150k a year, and totally miserable. He knew he had to make a change or something bad was going to happen. So, he took a chance - and a massive pay cut - and went to work in a new field. Where he lacked experience, he made up for his work ethic and sales experience. When risks are taken, there is always a chance for failure. But, as Mike explains, “So many people think they fail and start over. No, you start from a new starting point. You don't lose the experience you've already gained. So, try and fail forward.” Armed with that mentality, he and his wife, Tiffany, made some crucial life decisions that would shape the future of their lives. There were some bumps in the road following those decisions, and Mike describes a very dark time in his life in 2019. Then as we all know, Covid hit 2020, which was tough on the consulting and coaching industry. Those darkest moments were what made Mike who he is today, and served as the inspiration for his new book, “#TooStrong; How to Win Fast and Win Often in a World Full of Obstacles.” Through it all, with the support of his wife and family, Mike stayed consistent, loyal, and focused on what he could control. It paid off. He now runs 3 successful businesses and is on track to his biggest year yet in 2022.
